e [Music] welcome from the home of the Mets City Field in Queens New York we've got Major League Baseball on a Tuesday night it's the Los Angeles Dodgers going up against the New York Mets joined by my partner Chris Singleton I'm John shabi and Chris a guy that's been having a huge impact for this team All Year Pete Alonzo he leads the team and wins above replacement so most days you can expect him to be a big factor for these guys yeah Bo he's definitely a huge piece of the puzzle for this ball Club right now is just having really nice year and that's on both sides of the ball not just offensively you talk to guys in the clubhouse the coaching staff they always have great things to say about him and they say the team really looks to him to be one of the onfield leaders day in and day out well that whip is just below the league average position to win and I expect to see that from him in this one today that misses the Zone one and two the count and that one is [Music] inside Line Drive makes the catch and there's one gone time to check out the Dodgers lineup someone who makes things happen for them in part with his legs Gavin Lux and boo you and I were talking about him before the game he's got good speed and if you watch him in this game he's that type of guy that's very smart he doesn't have this just eye poppy speed but he knows how to use it and he's very intelligent on the base pass to get to the next base to get around the bases and ultimately score runs Chris Taylor in the box now no balls in a strike SAA a former Allstar he features the four seam fast ball a fork ball a cutter a slider and occasionally mixes in the slur and a foul ball here's the 02 ball one rarely will you see a pitcher just a waste a pitch like that the batter wasn't even tempted to swing every pitch needs to have a purpose so that it can set up a following pitch to help you get that out that's to third bayen throw off line he's safe and a nice job there to keep it from getting away sometimes early errors can be just as costly as errors made late in the ball game but you just don't know it at the time second bat of the game gets on base for free bringing up the number three hitter so we'll see if they can take advantage right here here's teoscar [Applause] Hernandez highfly ball near the pole that one is foul the one swings through that quickly in an 02 count you got figure out a way to shorten your path to the baseball put it in play somewhere then you got a [Applause] chance kicks and fires foul ball it stays nothing in two pretty good pitch there to take a rip at he wants to get his arms extended he likes the ball away from him a little bit just not able to square it up got it by him for the K oh that right there is just just a pitcher's pitch tailing away from The Hitter and lowing away with some good action at the end you know even if he gets the bat to that ball it's probably just a weak ground ball to the opposite side tell you what that's a tremendous two strike pitch and first off ring is fouled Off Taylor leads off first with two down to the inning and that's off the Inside Edge and now it's even one and one SGA over to First Taylor back on a [Applause] dive two outs swing in a Miss as he was out front that time [Applause] the short stop takes the ball two ball two strikes the pitch squeaks through that one it's a strike starting pitcher number 18 Chris he's got the ability to take control of a game when he's out there well incredible Mound presence and he's going to attack hitters look at that strikeout perine ratio over 10 coming into this start so he's a pitcher that wants the ball he's aggressive he knows that he can get the swing and Miss especially when he needs it most we'll see how effective he is in this one bottom the first jeck mcneel stands in the wine of the pitch just missed here's a bit of a scouting report on yoshinobu Yamamoto he's athletic has Elite flexibility kind of like you boo he's got good strength an ultra fast arm and exceptional movement patterns he's tough on hitters that's for sure and that's outside ball two when you get ahead count there's no doubt that the succcess rate goes up and that's what he's been doing it's made a big impact for him in recent games next off ring he in for a [Music] [Applause] strike he caught it behind his back over to First and they get the out let's take a peek at the Mets lineup here hoping for a good showing in this one from their cleanup hitter pet Lonzo yeah he's struggling a little bit right now I mean he knows it his team knows it everybody in the stands knows it but they need him to turn it around you know I'm told he's putting in some extra work in the cages as he should be doing so we'll see if he can break out right here and first offering is fouled off one down base is empty that's in there and it's 0 and two out there on the mount he's setting the tone early with the fast ball 98 milph up on the scoreboard that's inside going to count one and two it's a good [Applause] take a swing and a soft liner makes the grab two Down That Swing right there tells me he's seen the ball pretty well I know it didn't produce a hit but he made Solid contact and that's all you're looking to do anytime you're at the plate to out space is empty and now here's the veteran DH JD Martinez and that's off the Inside Edge and it's w to [Applause] know and downstairs [Applause] back up the middle in a base hit so a two out Knock keeps the inning alive well when you fall behind in the count you've got to come into the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there and now it's the polar bear Pete Alonzo not getting the results he's wanted at the plate recy barely hitting over the Mendoza Line this month yep that's in for a [Applause] [Applause] strike Now One Missed [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] foul ball still a one and two count two gone but the goahead run is at first here in the second game of the series and another ball [Applause] here's a two- two and a foul ball he stays alive always he's having a tough time getting a pitch by him as a hitter you feel pretty confident that you're seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact 32 now 3-2 two out run on first lot of movement in the infield hitters got to stay focused on the pitch hammers that one deep left field and forget it a two-run shot and they throw a pair on the board it's two nothing he kept swinging and it paid off well that was a battle boo and he just kept taking his Cuts finally squared one up [Applause] knew what pitch he wanted to hit spit on some other pitches in this at bat was very patient and it paid off two outs nobody on Ronnie Mauricio now that one is absolutely belted that's back out of here they go backto back his first Homer of the year and they add to their lead it's three nothing and that shot makes their grip on the lead even [Applause] tighter back-to-back homers always a special feeling at the Ballpark especially if it's your team that does it and those guys get to slap hands at home plate this is the kind of thing that can really fire up a ball Club B is empty with two away now it's DJ Stewart didn't play in last night's game a little breather for him right through there for a strike lots of pitches thrown in this first inning it's kind of that nightmare scenario for starting pitching but you know what it's still early enough he can settle in he can get some length if he just cleans up his mechanics a little bit just missed one ball one [Applause] strike highfly ball pretty well struck out towards Right Center that one HS against the fence and into second easily with a two out double four hits in a row and they're really swinging it here pretty much just a textbook double into the Gap and and you can drop one in there between the outfielders you know you're making the turn at first just an excellent swing so two down at the play Brett BTY definitely scuffling at the dish lately just one hit in his last five games yeah the pitch is in for a strike it's O and one stewart stands at second with two gone [Applause] hit on the ground to the right side and he grabs it in foul [Applause] ground man on second two down swing and a miss struck him out inning ends and that stops the bleeding but two round Trippers in this inning the long ball was working it's now three nothing you're dialed into the show and welcome back to the ballpark all set for the start of the inning here's the center fielder James outman outman here the right hter back to work and first off ring is fouled off S 61 righty 31 years old and he was selected to the allstar game last year and here it comes now a pop up on the infield Alonso in position and he makes the catch and there's one down oh that's a frustrating end the abbat for the hitter right there I mean that pitch was right down the middle I think he got a little too excited came out of his mechanics and instead of driving that ball somewhere he popped it up unfortunate for him there's a swing and a drive and it's a one hopper Off the Wall should be extra bases and he's got a double I'm sure he feels really good about that one just a solid swing right there caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit those always feel [Applause] great and it's second with one away show he Otani steps to the plate for the Dodgers and the first pitch misses for ball one [Applause] wouldn't chase that time Joe McDonald doing the home play duties here well Joe's an interesting one I'm always trying to figure out what exactly his zone is feels like it kind of moves around from game to game sometimes inning to inning and the rander deals that one finds the zone and count two and one yeah I think that's fair I don't think he's ever we off with his balls and Strikes but yeah I don't think it's easy to Define what his zone is like you said he's got it and there's two [Applause] away the batter now will be Will Smith [Applause] that one ripped that's a fair ball and it's getting into the corner runner from second crosses the plate and it's now a two-run game and that's a double well that gets him a little closer in this one they really turned on that one and as it hooked down the line it was hard to tell if it would stay fair but it just barely sneaked in there Max Muny at the dish he has as they like to say let me guess boo Light Tower Power that's right fast ball gets the inside corner at the [Applause] [Music] knees and he deals that one finds the zone and that's strike two all you got to do is concentrate and execute this next pitch get yourself out of the jam back into the Dugout man it's second Finds Its way through base hit now a long throw home and he's in there a run comes in and the play puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI got the top of the ball a little bit but not much that was hit pretty hard through the infield so I think he'll be happy with that swing definitely gener get some good bat speed and now it's Gavin [Applause] Lux ball one [Applause] [Applause] there two outs gips one to right and it goes just foul and that is in for a strike and the count one and two and another ball tying run is at first here at the top of the second [Applause] and now it's filled up great RBI spot here just got to stay focused on the pitch the runner will be in motion so something in the Gap should definitely score it Chris Taylor waiting to bat for the Dodgers pay off Pitch Pace hit just kind of sliced that spot and he drives in two anytime you rip a line drive the other way you feel really good about what you did at the play you trusted your hands you let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it that's great work right there so runner at second two down and now teoscar Hernandez just missed well they've been able to score four runs off of him in this inning and this is where you want to just max out get as much as you can give him one of those tough Innings where it's going to be hard for him to recover in the next one man on second two down swinging a foul straight [Applause] back righty delivers there's a strike Taylor at second with two [Music] [Applause] down just missing there the count now two and two really good take especially with two [Applause] strikes strike three Frozen with the front door slider so they move out in front after a 4run Outburst we go to the bot of inning number two it's the Dodgers four and the Mets three back here at City Field and now the veteran catcher Omar nvz Omar NV the pitch there's a strike no ball one [Applause] strike and that one fouled off lifted in the air right center field on his way over no trouble here puts it away for the out one up one down batting n the right field and now Bader up to the plate singy you got to appreciate a guy who's this good defensively I mean watching him track balls in the Outfield it is beautiful and that's in there for strike one he's so solid calms the heart rate of the pitcher and the manager when the ball goes up in the air you just automatically assume that it's an out every time it's hitting here home team down a run bottom half of inning number two swings and misses on the fast ball up in the zone for the strikeout been a pretty rough start to this series for him at the plate three strikeouts in the first game yesterday another one right there he clearly got a great plan for how to deal with this guy right now and there's a foul [Applause] ball swing and a [Applause] miss pitch misses and the count one and two is standing the strike zone very impressive that was a very close O2 fast ball I just don't know how you take that fights it off he'll see another two out Bas is [Applause] empty next offering is down low oh this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the adad I'm sure there's sometimes where pitch would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste and a swing to miss down on strikes and good work there as he gets a one two three Mets go down quickly score holds at 43 back here in Queens top half of the third inning mookie bets will get us started SGA back to work well you always have to be careful in these spots because mooki is lethal in the leadoff spot he has the most multi-home Run games out of the leadoff spot in baseball [Applause] history and that's downed away [Applause] the one- one is fouled [Applause] off hot shot to third throws across the diamond one up one down now Jes outman James outman digs in now 0 for one so far that's in [Applause] there and a foul ball one out base is empty [Applause] next pitch is outside well Chris through the early stages he hasn't been very efficient in terms of the pitch count he's going to need to get some quick outs if he's going to get deeper into this game swing and a miss struck him out well that's always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count and as a pitcher it really allows you to start expanding The Zone hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide and what happens is because of the pressure you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is and that's what leads to the strikeout right to the plate one ball one [Applause] strike just missed it is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now doesn't even matter that much if your starter doesn't go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their [Applause] bullpens rander kicks steals still two and two after the foul ball two down do on ball another two two upcoming here comes a pitch that one out to [Applause] right Bader makes the play and that is that bottom of the inning now the number two hitter Brandon Nimo Brandon Nimo as he turns on the rubber here with that good live arm delivers I'm so glad Yamamoto made the move to Major League Baseball he's one of the most decorated pitchers to come out of Japan and finished his knee pwn professional baseball career in style foul ball there facing elimination and pitching in game six of the Japan series Yamamoto pitched a complete game with 14 strikeouts and broke the series strikeout record held by U darish what a way to go out swinging a miss and the count is even two and two [Applause] bounc to the right side to first one gone bottom of the third inning now batt the designated hitter JD Martinez now JD Martinez at the plate singled and scored his first time ball one no [Applause] strikes inside almost got him well usually a high level of confidence when you're facing a young pitcher out there on the mound in this situation aead 2 has put himself in a really good spot pitch misses there and it's three and0 [Applause] and the righty deals inside Ball Four I don't think he really wanted to pitch to him right there anyhow man at first with one gone Pete Alonzo up now for the Mets [Applause] now a screamer into the Outfield Hernandez makes the catch he was all over that fast ball right there I tell you what if he gets under it just by a fraction of an inch or a little bit more that's way back and now Ronnie Mauricio he's already homered in this game [Applause] [Applause] [Music] first pitch misses right through there for a strike [Applause] and a pitch F back ourway and that's out of play the Mets down by a run here in the last half of the Third [Applause] [Applause] another one two got him swinging for the strike out some high cheese for strike three so it's no runs no base hits no errors and one left on on to inning number four it's the Dodgers four and the Mets [Applause] three and we're back start in the fourth and now now here's the Dodgers designated hitter sh Otani the right hander back to work and a good eye there well he hasn't quite settled in out there four runs and three Innings he's going to have to have some quick one two three Innings to pitch deep into this ball game that misses two balls no strikes two count you really don't want to give in here you got to work the edges really execute a pitch hopefully you can get back into this count 20 just missed re ball no [Applause] [Music] [Applause] strike that one misses so a lead off walk well just came apart right there four pitch walk and Guy the play was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of the zone and up to the plate is Will Smith doubled in his first [Applause] a inside almost got him maybe losing command a little bit after the walk next pitch not even close [Applause] kicks and fires fouled off he was late the pitch swing and a ball popped up mcneel under it and there's one down that was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the play had pretty good timing on it just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up Max M here's Max munzy that funky M singled and drove in a run his first time through and look out as that one ran in and got him you know he'll act like he really wanted to hit but he's as happy as anyone that he got hit by that pitch just to turn this lineup over back to the top Lu in the box now takes strike one this guy absolutely flies the defense wants to turn two but they've got to get a ball they can do it with make sure you get the first out before you try to rush and get two and end up with nothing one one in the dirt but kept close Runners stay where they are that's ball one first signs of Bullpen movement here in the early going Adrien Hower getting ready ready to go B also throwing the last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground but I wouldn't expect many pitches up in the zone they'll be pitching for a double play in this spot out there to Center that one gets down for a hit here comes the throw pulls him to third safely as a run scores well that may end up being in at bat we go back to later on when this game is over these days most outfielders play pretty deep and I'm not sure if that was a factor there or not but off the bat you're thinking it's going to be a pop out and it just kind of nestled into that spot where no one was able to get to it Chris Taylor now right side Bader should have it he's got it Runner tags from third the tag gets him and it's a double play to end the inning always exciting to see a play at the plate trying to score with two outs but the tag just gets him in time and they cut down the run to end the inning and welcome back to the ballpark bottom of the fourth and stepping in for New York DJ Stewart the L of the pitch that's Off the Mark Ball one well these Mets showing great discipline at the plate and patience PA definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one it's not just the three runs they've already scored on top of that they forced this starter to throw more pitches than he wanted to at this point of the game next offering is in for a strike and that pitch count is impactful because if they can keep making him work hard out there it may Force the Bull to get involved a little sooner rather than later two balls two strikes left hand batter Waits misses and the counts [Applause] full bals it back with two [Applause] strikes and that's B it's tough after falling behind a hitter two balls and no strikes but now at least he gets a fresh start against a new batter but he needs to get back into the strike zone and start pitching with conviction batty swings through it for strike one well a come and get me fast ball right there he didn't look ready for the velocity I think it'd be a mistake to throw him anything off speed right here next offering is down low and one and one way to lay off that pitch [Applause] [Applause] down got him one gone here [Applause] the catcher number two Omar narv at the plate 0 for one with a fly out to [Applause] Center that one misses and that's ball one one ball no stri kicks indial swing and a ball lifted in the air shallow left field and that'll fall for a base hit quick throw back in lead Runner holds it second with one gone he needed that one it's been a tough stretch at the plate lately I don't know how he's able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it that pitch was inside and he let it get really deep so pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it next to hit Harrison Bader swing and a highfly ball down the left field line but hooking [Applause] foul two on one out sharp grounder that's through for a base hit Runner around third on his way to the plate he's safe as he gets his hand in couple of singles back to back pretty tough for the infielders to do anything with that one he pulled it hard into the Outfield and even when you keep it on the ground it feels great when you hit a missile like that back to the top of the lineup and now here's Jeff mcneel just missed well all eyes on the double play ball in this spot no better way to get out of this inning Runners at first and second with with one [Applause] gone off the mark there two and0 good spot for the hitter definitely has the advantage in this count with Runners on look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch and here it comes that's a little bit no well I would expect in this three-oh count you're taking all the way see if they'll walk you Brandon nmo in the onck circle next offering is in for a [Applause] strike and the pitch and they're all loaded up oh that sets up a really big at bat in this game these are the moments when everyone in the stadium gets really locked in here's Brandon nmo golden opportunity right here pulled hard but it's a foul ball one out base is [Applause] full and ball one the Dodgers Bullpen with some action Nabil prismat looks to be getting ready for manager Dave [Applause] Roberts Good Eye in that spot in situations like these the air can get really thin up there at the plate got to find a way to breathe and slow everything [Applause] down that's down and in two walks in the inning already and he just doesn't seem comfortable out there like he can find the right mechanics and then repeat them on the outside corner and it's three and [Applause] two ball four and a run comes in to score well all tied up again and that's a pretty rough way to give up a lead it's just kind of a gut punch for the entire team that issue the free pass right there so faes loaded with one away here's JD Martinez just missed he's looking for a ground ball to get a double play and out of this Jam Bader on third mcneel over at second nmo over at first with one away next pitch in for a strike and the count one and one hitter's got some good opposite field power what I like about something being hit to the right side into the Outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base [Applause] hit ground ball left side could be two feed to Second that's one and that's two they get two and draw even again we've played Four we're all tied up [Applause] 55 new inning getting started leading off teoscar Hernandez Hernandez tired or not he's Relentless with the way he pitches he might be exhausted out there but his stuff is still nasty right through there for a strike Hernandez measures 6' 2 in 25 lbs and he was born in the Dominican Republic that's a base hit solo Runner aboard to start the inning nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line you know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn't always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly and now let's see if they force some action with good Wheels on the bases go ahead run on base here's a big Power threat mukie Betts year in and year out this guy an MVP [Applause] candidate B swings deep Drive left field nmo going back and that one is out of here he'll take a jog around the bases in it's 75 he only needed one swing to square it up not wasting any time in that at bat boo aggressive and it paid off man he just barely got that one out of here and you got to love the effort in left to try and bring it back he had a good shot at it just couldn't quite pull it off it would have been a stunner if he did and here comes the Mets manager to the mound pitching change com kodai SGA done for the night we'll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound the Mets with a new arm on the mound Adrien Hower 25th appearance of the year for him Hower and at the plate for the Dodgers James outman Clips the corner and that's strike [Applause] one the pitch that's off the mark one and one one ball one strike the wi in the pitch so a foul ball makes it one and two nobody on nobody out a pair of runs across in the inning and we're in the top of the fifth and a ball even a count [Applause] wouldn't chase that time Full [Applause] Count gets a p and stays [Applause] alive payoff pitch good plate appearance there able to take the walk that's a great at bat he saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk a great back and forth and that it bad he had to lay off some really close pitches and somehow Boogie found a way to keep the bat on his shoulder right there I'll tell you right now I couldn't have done it [Applause] Freeman in now takes ball one off the plate nobody out with a pair of runs across in the frame here in the second game of the series fought off [Applause] foul laced in left that's a base hit throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out couldn't have timed it up any better than that showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way didn't get jumpy didn't try to pull the ball he let it get deep took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit sh Otani up to the dish I'm curious how he decides to attack on the mound this guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year in there for strike one not the easiest thing when you're talking about a guy that's you know perhaps was going to be in the rotation maybe a long relief guy to not start an inning to come into an inning with pressure on it and and try to get yourself comfortable and a pitch hard grounder into the outfield for a knock coming home he'll score easily it's 8 to five now bat couldn't get any air under it but he smoked that ball back up the middle timing was just perfect got great wood on it and there's just no chance for the infielders of how hard he hit it and here's the catcher Will Smith crushed left center field this one's deep forget [Applause] it and that should quiet this home crowd second home run of the inning for him and they add to the lead it's 115 he absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer and you can see that's what he expects of himself at bat after it bat he's that confident a good hitter gets pitch recognition early he saw exactly where that was going to be the challenge not get over anxious and come out of your swing he stayed on it and got all of it Jose B will take over here I think he's got to be a little tough coming in out of the pin when your guys are trailing so big on the scoreboard just doesn't have the same intensity to it but he's got to find a way because these batters count the same for his stats obviously regardless of the score and now it's Max Muny that one finds the Zone one and one no ball one strike swinging a foul straight back right-handed reliever [Applause] gets a piece and it stays 0 and [Applause] two the pitch and that skips into dirt now he's desperately looking for that swing and Miss he's gonna have to just change speeds a little bit try to move it around create just a little bit of Illusion at the end just misses with that one recognize that change up right out of the hand just spit on it and misses it's a strike out well that was a really good job setting him up right there pitcher and catcher working together to finish him off with the fast and even though the location probably wasn't what he wanted the sequence is what got the job done clearly late with the swing after seeing the off speed Stu on the pitch before and a foul ball left-and hitter Waits that one in the dirt and that is ball one little bit low and the right hander deals and it's foul away the two- two this one popped up mcneel pulls it down and there's two gone the right fieler number three Chris Taylor two out Bas is empty here comes Chris Taylor one for [Applause] three there's a strike at the knees going [Applause] one and a swinging to miss good pitch right there tied him up on the hands if I'm out there on the bump I'm going right back in there and a cur misses outside the pitch and that's in the [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] dir and there's a ball he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three hole hitter coming up if he's walk this to Third and it's through for a hit and that extends the inning for T Oscar Hernandez well they call that an advantage count for a reason you're so much more likely to get something you can handle there's something about pulling one down the line and shooting it through the infield it's just so satisfying as a hitter it's just fun turning on a pitch like he did right there and the batter now teoscar Hernandez that one catches the corner for a strike Taylor off of first with two [Applause] away which misses one ball one strike [Applause] [Music] swing and a miss and he got him to [Applause] chase B picks to First and he's back in there two outs that's foul off to the right side keeps the ab going the one two and a swing and a miss and that's that but two round Trippers in this inning the long ball was working home half of the fifth coming up back after this on the show ready to go for last half of the inn and here's the first ban Pete Alonzo the line of the pitch that one finds the Zone strike one well every pitcher wants a run support and having a lead is nice but it can be challenging for some pitchers I think keeping the mindset to attack instead of trying to be too fine and have too much finesse go after hitters and get quick outs the one-1 ball no I can't play around with him here it's a six-run lead at this point got to attack hitters even if you give up a solo shot breaking ball through there for a strike two balls two strikes [Music] [Applause] hit pretty well in the air out to Center outman gets under it and there's one down the batter number 10 short stop here's the short stop at the play
