e and welcome in everybody glad you're with us baseball coming up on this Memorial Day it's the Los Angeles Dodgers going up against the New York Mets John shabby and Chris Singleton on the call and send you the big bat in the lineup so far this year Francisco Lindor always exciting to see him in action and it seems like he consistently finds a way to impact the game yeah boo it's offensively at the pl defensively when he's on the bases I mean this guy's just a heads up player but he's got so much talent and he makes the most of that I believe it starts with his preparation because you never see him give away in it back well you know this guy wants to be better than that I mean the ER is bloated he understands that he's got to put his team in a better position to win ball games and at this point you have to forget about your own individual stats and most likely that ER will have dropped over time [Applause] srino and the pitch is outside ball one it's a good take bals it off still one and two righty delivers swings through that one it's a strike out very frustrating right there as a speedy potential base runner when with two strikes you just struggle to put the ball in play you don't even have to get a hit at that point you can help your team just by reaching on an error but some way got to find a way to shorten up the swing and put the ball in play next time here's Jason [Applause] Hayward this to center field Bader should have it he's there he's got it out number two here's the Dodgers lineup now a guy who's been huge for them over the last month plus mookie bets he's near the top of the league in RB's and he's become a guy that they can count on to come through in big spots and he has not disappointed man pretty impressive top five in RBI in the National League two out space is empty and here's the veteran outfielder teoscar Hernandez [Applause] highfly ball out at the left center field nmo has it sized up and makes the grab and that is that on to the bottom of the first no score back here with my pal singi and taking the ball for the Dodgers Clayton Kershaw singy always a treat when we get to watch him work very crafty guy out there on the hill a stellar career ER in the low twos very tough to get to just when you think you got him figured out he flips the script we'll see how the hitters are able to adapt to him today bottom of the first Starling Marte up to him why to kick the pitch swinging a foul straight back Kershaw a multi SA Award winner he features a slider a for seamer a curve and he works in a change up not even close there and to count even one and [Applause] one wouldn't chase that time the wi in the pitch popped up Lux gets under it brings it in and there's one down okay let's check out the lineup and a big part of it a guy with a great track record Francisco Lindor well he's been putting up some huge power numbers and opposing pitchers know that they can't make mistakes to them in fact they probably Circle in pregame making sure that if they're in a situation where their back is against the wall they're going to find a way to pitch around him players that are in the top five in slugging percentage in the league really don't get over look Jeff McNeil in the box now no balls in a strike that one's in there o and two oh this guy is so comfortable hitting with two strikes even a good pitch early in the abat if he's not ready to pull the trigger he's not worried if he gets to an 02 count leftand hitter Waits and that's in the dirt two strike hammers that one curling down the line and foul one two now and a good eye there really good take especially with two strikes two two now that one [Applause] missed outside and that is ball four well he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot hitter didn't offer at it now he has somebody to worry about over first JD Martinez stands in leading the NL in home runs to start the day he's been a beast little Chopper rolls [Applause] foul Kershaw deals outside low and it's one and one [Applause] and the pitch this one in the air right field Hayward puts it away two [Applause] down patting the first basem P oh and now it's the polar bear Pete Alonzo he's not going to get cheated up there no he's not he's looking to do damage with every swing he takes in there for a strike at the top of the zone and he o one and there's a ball two gone but the goahead run is at first first here in game one of this three- game [Applause] set next pitch not close up [Applause] high Kershaw fires and it's fou away [Applause] snap throw to first and he's out and they got him that ends the inning scoreless after [Applause] one back here at City Field now it's m bet singing you can't ask for anything more this guy checks all the boxes offensively he is the ultimate profession professional and it doesn't just start at game time it starts in the afternoon the way he oh this is deep to left Center way back there on its way gone that's one way to quiet the crowd it's one nothing one pitch one swing one home run yeah you can say that's efficiency right there didn't need much time in the Box to make an impact with this pitcher's velocity a change up is really a break for a hitter he got a BP fast ball didn't move a whole lot and he absolutely tattooed [Applause] it here comes Chris Taylor seino multitime Allstar 30 years old now he joined the team as a free agent nobody on nobody out with a run in here at the top of the second ground ball right side and that chance handled whips it to first on the Run Taylor out on the play I wasn't sure if he was going to get to this one or not had to go a pretty good way there in the shallow right field but then after that it's a tough angle after you square up your shoulders to throw to first base not the normal position but a really good job defensively right there Freddy Freeman batting with one down takes a strike sometimes pitchers work him backwards starting with the breaking ball but it's a tricky approach he almost wants to bait you out there to throw that stuff to start the atat the next offering misses one ball one strike line drive base [Applause] hit just so sound in his mechanics hits against a firm front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field one down and now here's the Dodgers designated hitter sh Otani and a pitch out but nothing going on man at first one away [Applause] srino kick deals hard ground ball base knock they get it in quickly so first and second now one out couldn't have timed it up any better than that really good swing right there he got a pitch that he knew he could handle allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws so one out with two a board the batter now will be Will Smith fast ball in for a strike and it's O and [Applause] [Applause] one puts it in the air out towards left Center nmo pulls it in on the Run batting n the third BAS number 13 Max Muny so first and second with two outs Here Comes Max [Applause] Muny late swing foul to the left two outs couple of base runners at first and second Muny hits one in the air Bader should have it and that is that solo shot for the Dodgers this inning it's an early one- nothing lead you're watching Major League Baseball on the show ready to go for the last half of the inning and stepping for New York Pete Alonzo Pete [Applause] Alonso Kershaw back to work pass ball for a [Applause] strike out in front and foul to the left side little early on that fast ball I'm sure the pitcher taking a note look for an off speed pitch on this next one kicks and fires now a slow roller to Second Lux fires over to first one up one down good slider inside right there batter fighting to get there just rolled over got the ground ball here's Francisco Lindor [Applause] foul ball there one out base is empty softly hit to third Muny already two out here in the home half of inning number two thatting six the left fielder brand here's Brandon nmo [Applause] [Applause] Nimo first pitch misses the Mets trailing by a run bottom half of inning number two and a foul ball [Applause] next offering in there for a strike one and [Applause] [Music] two and another ball two balls two strikes [Applause] two outs that one misses counts full three and [Applause] [Music] two gets a piece there we'll do it [Applause] again two out space is [Applause] empty down on strikes and the Mets go one 23 nothing doing for the Mets and it remains one nothing and we're back and now it's Gavin Lux taken high in the draft he's had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform but at some point that starts to go away and you oh this one high and deep way back there tattooed and gone he circles the bases it's two nothing he ambushed him right there sigy yeah swinging on that first pitch and I think losing one over the fence is exactly what he had in mind as [Applause] well it's like he's playing whiffle ball up there and that's typically not the easiest way to hit a home run to the slight opposite field into the Gap man making it look easy that's for sure and up next for Los Angeles Jason Hayward just off the Inside Edge always exciting to see a latoff home run in an inning kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning one run acrossing the frame so far you're in game one of this three- game set and that's a base hit well the last 10 games or so have been anything but fun at the played for him so that one has to feel good other than ripping one into the gap or blasting one over the wall there aren't a whole lot of hits that are more satisfying than a nice Line Drive in the center field so that definitely felt good Hernandez batting for the second time and that's strike one [Applause] the pitch swings through that one for strike two sometimes being lucky is a swing and Miss if he makes contact with that pitch probably hits into a double play got him looking throws him with the heater at the knees well he made pretty quick work of him right there you look at the sequence everything down at the knees and below and some guys are good lowball hitters but but right there they clearly had a plan to pound that part of the zone and he wasn't able to put up much of a fight here's mukie Betts he's already homered in this game that one catches the Zone strike one bets can claim something not many players can he's won the World Series playing in the national league and the American League Hayward stands at first with one out and mooki [Applause] takes liner base hit they fired in quickly so it's first and second with only one away another multi-hit game for him he's been really hot lately show the willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way didn't get jumpy didn't try to pull the ball he'd let it get deep took the barrel right to it and then extended through the the swing for the line drive base hit Chris Taylor now that one finds the Zone that's strike one two on one out swing and a miss and the count is 0 and two right-hander kicks deals gets a piece and stays [Applause] alive and the pitch swing and a miss struck him out he's locked in at the plate when he's using the whole field he was out front there just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track good pitch for the strikeout [Music] so first and second with two outs and at the plate for the Dodgers Freddy Freeman and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter [Music] [Applause] that's in there no balls two strikes well I know they've gotten out to an early lead but you don't want to take these opportunities for granted with two outs still lock in with a quality at bat drive in that run you may not have swing and a miss Str him out they limit the damage here two men left stranded but they do push across one we move on to the bottom of inning number three it's the Dodgers two and the Mets nothing [Applause] as we go to the last of the third now here is Harrison Bader Bader Kershaw back to work rolled softly but that goes foul [Applause] [Applause] here comes a pitch and that one fouled off [Applause] that misses and the count one and [Applause] two that's foul off to the right side keeps the ab going [Applause] and the one two misses to even the count waves at the Bender for the strike out I got to think that was the plan all the way he set him up with a high fast ball and then bury that curveball down low to get him swinging now especially with how effective pitchers work up in the zone these days that's a devastating combination on the ground right side and he takes himself for the out batting KN the K ke two out SP is empty and now the catcher comes up to him Kevin parda it's been a tough stretch for him at the plate under the Mendoza Line so far this month fast ball for a strike o and one the Mets down by a pair here in the last half of the Third swing and a miss and that's strike two he's in a great spot right here ahead in the count 02 all four pitches in play right here partner and a pitch that one not close now one and [Applause] two swing and a miss curveball in theer in time the two3 strikeout ends the [Applause] [Applause] inning back here in Queens John shamby with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth sh Otani the rander back to word that's in there that's strike one love it here at City Field you know it replaced old sha Stadium back in 2009 and Chipper Jones was really sad to see it go it's actually the third home of the Mets since they started out at the polo grounds for two seasons before Shay was finished and a pitch and one and two one ball two [Applause] strike and the righty deals that missed by a lot and the Count's even at [Music] two on the ground right side he handles it himself that's the first out in the top of the fourth now batting catcher Will Smith and up to the plate is Will Smith he's over for [Music] one this to third whips it across and they get the out on Smith the third Bas number 13 Max Muny here's see to hit 0 for one with a fly out to [Applause] Center in for a strike going [Applause] one he swings and fouls one off two down nobody on top half of inning number four that one way [Applause] inside wouldn't chase that [Applause] time two down nobody on weighing in a Miss struck him out and it's a one two3 inning Dodgers go down quietly but they hold a two- nothing [Applause] lead and welcome back to the ballpark bottom four here's Starling Marte Starling Marte the wi of the pitch he dieses but k hang on that's a base hit man aboard on the leadoff single went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle challenged him with the fast ball right in the heart of the zone and he was clearly ready to jump all over [Applause] it and now here's Jeff mcneel Marte of the move on the ground to the left down the line and it's foul well here's a good opportunity in this inning to get on the scoreboard after that leadoff hit and hardly order coming up right behind them this is where they need to get going here's he one and he swings through that one with two strikes may see some movement over there at first base trying to stay out of the double play right [Applause] here wouldn't chase that time [Applause] the Dodgers up by two we're here in the bottom of the fourth [Applause] left hand batter Waits The with to lay off that pitch down and now the Lefty he fouls it off will'll do it again [Applause] step off throw to first Marte Dives back in runner at first with no outs [Applause] here now he's desperately looking for that swing in Miss he's going to have to just change speeds a little bit try to move it around create just a little bit of a illusion at the [Applause] end hit in the air center field Taylor gets there he's under it pulls it down and he makes the catch and there's one away now B The deated Hitter JD marz here is JD Martinez you have to be careful throwing and breaking pitches even in o count he loves going after the off speed stuff and he's really good at hitting it one pitch out but no action the pitch and that one a little below the knees and the count is two [Applause] and0 at the belt and fires and that one's a little bit low and it's three and0 Marte the base runner at first with one out [Applause] a swing and a miss and that's strike one three balls one [Applause] strike high in the air out to r as this one sized up makes the grab and there's two gone the B the first Bas Pete Alonso here's Pete Alonzo he's 0 for [Applause] one pitch misses inside one [Applause] and0 two outs that's down in the pitch just missed back door breaking ball just missed right there and boy umpire did give him the call I bet you if he throws it again hitter knows he's going to have to swing it let's see if he gives him anything to hit here and ball for to a board not what he wanted to do there boo what keeps this inning alive and gives this offense a good chance to cut into their deficit Francisco Lindor comes up to the plate a switch hitter batting [Applause] right first pitch and that's in for a strike Bo over 80% of his first pitches are strikes you're doing that you could have a really good day out there in the [Applause] mound the 01 the short stop takes the ball yeah he can move the ball around add and subtract get some weak contact at times so you don't worry as much about him in this situation very capable of getting the ground ball and out of this little Jam one two keeps the back going with a foul [Applause] ball Two on Two Out right side Lux in plenty of time to First Lindor retired and that will end the inning two left for the Mets they're still down it's two Z back here at City Field now it's the second baseman Gavin Lux Gavin Lu the pitch lck measures 6' 2 in 26 years old a former first round pick back in 2016 and foul [Applause] ball that's inside [Applause] and down on strikes he goes and one out now really love the pitch sequence right there I'm telling you what pitcher and catcher on the same page right nowas Jason Hayward steps to the plate for the Dodgers one for two he's controlling things out there on the mound not messing around at all he's been in attack mode since the very start B is empty one away and we're at the top of the fif that's smash toward Center puts it away for the out and there's two down now left here's tcar Hernandez went down looking on three pitches last time let's see if he can be a little more aggressive right [Applause] here and that's in there at the knees for a strike that's in there and that is strike two love how vocal the Umpire is today no doubt in the hitter's mind catcher mind and even the pitcher mind as to the conviction in the call and it stays Fair now he'll turn for second the throw in and he's out th down and that ends the inning we head to the bottom of the fifth now the left fielder Brandon nmo and that's through there for a strike oh these Mets doing a great job boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I'm seeing very patient at bats out of them starters leash has to be getting tighter with his pitch count where it is but so far he's been really effective in this one Off the Mark there and the count is one and one you know sometimes it just takes getting to the bullpen in order to be able to score runs and that might be the case [Applause] today in the air right field under it and a quick out number one the center field number 44 Harris and now Bader up to the plate he struck out swinging in his first hit back [Applause] popped up Freeman makes the catch and there's two away up to the third Bas now it's Zach sh grounded out his first time [Applause] that one way outside and that's ball [Applause] one the wi to the pitch Swang in a miss and it's a ball to strike [Applause] highfly ball out to center field coming on is Taylor squeezes it that is the [Applause] inning and we're back here's Muki now he's a guy who does it all with the lack of contact in today's game this guy hits for contact so he just delivers average but there's on Bas and slugging too as he turns on the rubber with that good live arm delivers early in the count you have to be real careful because of that power but then if this hitter gets a striker two on him he's still very comfortable and because he has the ability to get the barrel to the baseball he's a threat deep into the count as well and he chases that one picks up strike out number seven that's that classic classic wipe out slider below the zone right there just nasty looks like a fastball thigh high that you got to protect the zone and then it's just that late break that fools you and kind of makes you look [Applause] silly Taylor up for the third time here watches that one miss and that'll fall for a base hit so man aboard now with one away well his hot hitting continues he's been getting great results lately I don't know how he's able to shoot that pitch the other way and still put something on it that pitch was inside and he let it get really deep so pretty incredible hands to fight it off and still get good wood on it here comes Freddy Freeman up to hit that one's in there and that is strike one Taylor at first one [Applause] gone that one hammered but pulled [Applause] [Music] foul in the air right side snags it on the run two down maybe caught that one off the end just a little bit couldn't quite Barrel it up enough to really drive it doesn't sh Otani sh Otani up to the dish so easy to look at the big boys in this lineup but he has been a pleasant surprise all season long down the middle for a strike one one cold night like tonight last thing you want to do as a hitter is get jammed or even off the end trying to find that sweet spot on the bat a dive he's got it we refer to Third Base as the hot corner but that one was a hot one on the other side of the diamond nice job quickly leaving the ground makes the catch and that ends the [Applause] inning back here in Queens and the batter Now Kevin P Kershaw back to work right down the shoot strike one it really looks like these hitters have been in in between with their timing today good fast ball excellent slider but they've not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there fouled off he was [Applause] late got him and that's the first down back to the top of the Mets order Starling Marte up now for the Mets Mar ball one to the right fielder swings through that one man he was really Tardy on that fast ball great job of setting him up by throwing the curveball add some velocity to it on the next pitch can't catch up that's a strike Bo that hooks looking pretty sharp today just a solid pitching performance so far and I really think it's because of that curveball stays alive well they gave up on that pitch early and it ended up staying in the zone I'm sure he's kicking himself and would like that pitch again that misses the zone now two and two this guy's a fun guy to watch taking it bat he just battles up there he doesn't take a pitch off at all makes it so difficult on the pitchers out there you can tell they get frustrated with how long it takes to put them [Applause] away the Mets trailing by two here in the bottom of the six [Applause] got him outside pitch got the better of him that time well I thought there was a lot of patience in that at bat but just the Pat and mouse game Kershaw just a master at it Jeff mcneel stands in hard grounder into the out field for a knock and with the inning still alive here comes the heart of the [Applause] order only two hits allowed so far tonight boo so I don't think that one will disrupt his momentum all that much you know he's really been on top of his game commanding his pitches all night long and now JD Martinez he's been a great free agent side [Music] crushed left center field this one's deep forget it a gigantic blast his 17th of the year and this game is tied it's 22 he sent the first pitch over the wall must have dinner reservations cuz he wasn't wasting any time at the plate in that ADV bat a good hitter gets pitch recognition early he saw exactly where that was going to be the challenge not get over anxious and come out of your swing he stayed on it and got all of it here's some real power at the plate Pete Alonzo that one misses and that is ball one two runs across in the inning you're in game one of this three- game set that one missing inside Kershaw maybe a little less aggressive on the mound right now after that home run Chris yeah it seems that way you know guys they can come out feel good but then all of a sudden get touched up a little bit and they start trying to throw instead of pitch they're not trusting their [Applause] stuff and here it comes and that's off the Inside Edge and now three and one Francisco Lindor waiting to hit for the [Applause] Mets two down dolman on and that one fouled [Applause] off and he deals swinging a foul ball at the plate they'll do it again [Applause] struck Him Out Swinging snuck the fast ball by him Mets had two runs on this blast and we're deadlocked now at two a piece you're watching Major League Baseball on the show and welcome back to the ballpark top of inning number seven and at the plate for the Dodgers Will Smith the wi to kick the pitch ball that's out you know these Dodgers simply put are producing a lot of quality swings we've heard lots of loud noise coming from their bats in this one haven't we I mean they've losted six hits at 90 plus exit velocity and that doesn't happen by accident and out number one on on the grab now that third Muny digs in now be careful with this guy he's got power he can untie it with one swing missed with a change up and that's ball one count one [Applause] and0 right through there for a strike all tied up here in the top half of inning number seven smoked on the ground a second mcneel gets it to first they get the out on M Gavin Lu so the lineup flips over Gavin Lux steps to the plate for the Dodgers he's already homered here in this one and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter trying to keep good speed off the bases one there one ball one strike and another ball you got two balls one strike wouldn't chase that time a rare three ball count here he's been throwing strikes all day got to be ready to hit if you're in the Box two outs there's the strike up by three and two Now helpful that's a good at back right there he was down early in that plate appearance works the walk oh that's a really dangerous base runner to put on first especially in a tie game now there might be some consequences coming from that mistake and here comes the Mets manager to the mound pitching change coming Luis sevino departs and it's a tie ball game as he heads for The Dugout back with a new arm after a quick break Jose B on The Pitch Out of the paner he last pitch two days [Applause] ago goahead run on base and next for La Jason Hayward one for [Applause] [Music] three swing and a Tapper tosses to first that's out number three one left for LA score remains 22 [Music] we're back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh Joe Kelly oh he's having an excellent season so far er's under two lot of flexibility coming out of the bullpen and now it's Frankie Lindor for the the short stop Francisco [Applause] Lindor the pitch and and a rope into center field base hit a lead off single and the go-ahead run is a [Applause] board so digging in Brandon Nimo n breaking ball inside ball one if you're a base runner you got to stay dialed in here look for anything in the dirt try your best to get in the scoring position and the right hander deals and fouled off with the go-ahead run at first here the bottom of the [Applause] seven that one missed activity in the bullpen for the Dodgers Daniel Hudson appears to be getting loose the getting cranked up as [Applause] well righty delivers and that one fouled off two and two and another ball kick sendal ground ball up the middle that's a base hit Thro holds him at second but the goahead run now in scoring position and still nobody out two consecutive base hits for this team just kept it simple play Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there's just no one there to knock it down a chance now to take the lead and at this point in the game that could be a deciding run Harrison Bader now at the plate and that's in for a strike right-handed reliever and that is in for a strike and it's own and two now just a submit mixer slider right there it's a great pitch to hit if you can recognize it early and jump on [Applause] it righty to the plate just misses there man oh man I don't know how you take that pitch that's his close As It Gets rander kicks deals hacks and misses it's a strike out I mean there aren't many curveballs in the score today that break like that thing does huge movement it's so difficult to get on the same plane and even think about squaring it up let alone get a piece and hope he throws something else to keep the atat alive Zack short up now for the Mets [Music] that's in there that's strike one at the dish looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot anything but the inning ending double play boo one out the go-ahead run is at second popped in the air left field Hernandez settles underneath it hauls it in and there's two away just Co off of it a little bit right there that front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed if he does that he's going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some Authority instead of a fly out to left so first and second with two outs and next for the Mets Kevin [Applause] PDA and that one is inside ball one [Applause] next offering is in for a [Applause] strike slider misses outside could be some action here on this next pitch couple Runners on probably a challenge pitch coming Lindor on second Nimo at first two out of the [Music] Inning on the ground and it's just foul that was close got him swinging he's in a tough spot had to make a great pitch did it got the strike out gets out of the jam clearly he's happy with those results back here at City Field and now teoscar Hernandez the pitch outside corner there's a strike activity in the bullpen Jake dakman the left-handed reliever appears to be getting loose adino getting loose as well here comes a Pitch hit hard on the ground to short toss to Alonzo and Hernandez is out that's a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game it might not be the most challenging we've seen today but it needed to be made that's helping your team here's Muki now struck out on just three pitches last [Applause] time fast ball for a strike and it's on one late in The game everyone gets a little tighter way to get ahead on a really good hitter right [Applause] there b is empty one away and we're in the top of the eight B swings deep Drive left field that's back there that's long gone another Homer his second home run of the game and the Dodgers have the lead it's 32 the brighter the lights the more he shines yeah this guy lives for big moments and right there made a statement big time [Applause] man he just barely got that one out of here and you've got to love the effort and left to try and bring it back he had a good shot at it just couldn't quite pull it off it would have been a stunner if he did here comes Chris Taylor and that one just misses a ball and no strikes goes 6'1 200 lb and he was born in Venezuela base hit center field so they get a man aboard with a one out single couple of hits in a row form here you'll often hear the phrase short to it long through it and that's a great example of it right there got the Barrel in The Hitting Zone early squared it up with the well time swing and came away with a beautiful Line Drive in center field B checks over to First and he's [Applause] back Freddy Freeman up to the dish bounce to the left side and it's through for a hit and they'll have Runners at the corners after a one- out single first pitch swing in went up there with the plan to be aggressive not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play that's a team to bat right there nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep here's sh Otani he's been really clutched with runners in scoring position this season so they'll have to be extra careful in this matchup swinging a foul back that's out of play in the infield at the corners don't be surprised to see them come home first and prevent that run from scoring [Applause] and that's downed [Applause] away swing in a miss one and two big pitch right here he's going to try to make a pitch it's going to produce a strike out or a ground ball double play two on one out two balls two [Music] [Applause] [Applause] strikes in the dirt tag save at second and good hustle to move up that's a wild pitch three balls two strikes the count knocks that one away and we'll do it [Applause] again to kick the 3-2 line drive to short and caught that bat is a positive sign even though it probably doesn't feel like it he hit the ball hard but it doesn't always work out in your favor sometimes a Defender is there to make a play now a chance for Will Smith 0 for three with two fly outs and a ground out so RBI spot but Chris this a guy that is not really swinging the bat all that well here in this situation you have a real good opportunity to get swings and misses and record a strikeout I think you attack him in this [Music] [Applause] spot that one's in there o and one [Applause] swung on beled and it's a one hopper Off the Wall should be extra bases they extend their lead as the runner scores from second it's 52 big it bat to pad their lead up to three I love the approach he had right there with that pitch not trying to do too much but still looking to drive it and that's exactly what he's able to do into the opposite field gap for the double Jake Dean gets the ball now and this could be a pretty critical point in this game they're hoping he's the guy to keep him within Striking [Applause] Distance so runner at second two now now the third baseman Max [Applause] Muny fast ball for a strike and [Applause] [Applause] one that's a little bit low I got a ball one stength [Applause] way high runner at second two [Applause] down that one 95 to finish him off but three score in the inning two of them on this two-run double it's 52 Major League Baseball is on the show back now new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth bruar Gro definitely a guy that pounds the strike zone makes hitters earn their way on base and rarely gets in trouble because of free passes and here is Starling Marte the Mets in Striking Distance but have some work to do Bo it starts with the leadoff man need a good and bad out of him right here and a pitch there's a strike well it's critical right here that they bear down and turn in some quality at bats try to chip away at that lead because if it gets to the ninth that closer is coming [Applause] in and the pitch that one fouled off [Applause] hit hard should be extra bases makes the turn and heads for second and he greets the new arm from the bullpen with a double he was all over that one he really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing foul one thing that was great about the approach his head was down all the way through the pitch and that's how you do it so up next for New York Jeff mcneel first pitch doesn't find the [Applause] zone and there's the strike [Music] that one's in there and the count one and two one ball two [Applause] stra it's in and out of his glove but the throw to first gets him easily and that's the first out now batt the designated hitter J and Martinez lots of pop at the plate Outfield playing back almost on the warning track sigy he's got a history of coming through into big spots I know I like to talk about I'm not sure whether clutch actually exists but you look at the numbers and this guy always seems to deliver in those spots swings and misses slider right there well I think it's the ability to assess the situation understanding what the pitcher has what he's trying to get people out on and then being able to use the entire field comes up empty that's strike two if you're a guy that can only hit to one field then you're really not going to be able to come through in clutch situations because pitchers are going to adjust but because he's able to use the entire field that's why he's so successful in these situations one away with a runner at third here the bottom half of the eighth inning next offering is downstairs one ball two strikes [Applause] count SS and misses struck him out so two down now and here is Pete Alonzo a strike out and a walk [Applause] got to keep things airtight defensively right here on your toes ready to make a play if you can get this to the ninth with a three-run lead it should be a w two outs and there's a ball [Applause] and the pitch battling here as he fouls it away at the belt and fires bounce to the right Lux [Applause] throws the first in time and that takes care of Alonzo inning over no runs one hit a double no errors and one man left ninth inning coming up it's the Dodgers five and the Mets two and we're back we go to the ninth now it's the Dodger lead off hitter Gavin Lu second Gavin the pitch flips the corner that's strike one movement in the bullpen Drew Smith getting loose out [Applause] there leftand batter weights fought off foul the2 and they'll do it again and now the Lefty got him looking and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth well he's going to have some thinking when he leaves the ballpark after this one that was his third strikeout and this one looking obviously so he's been a little overmatched he's got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate and up next for Los Angeles Jason Hayward in there and it's O and [Applause] one Bas is empty one way here at the top of the night next offering is in for a strike count they tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away and a swing and a miss now two away well anytime you can punch out the top two guys in a lineup to start an inning got to be feeling pretty good out there on the mound because when you think of just having a distraction table Setters on the base paths and all of a sudden you're dealing with a number three hitter any distraction can cause you to serve up a cookie and instead of it being a solo shot it's a two or three run Homer Herz in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike two down nobody on here in game one of this three- game set and that's [Applause] outside lace down the line could be extra bases and that rolls into the corner around first heading for two in safely it's a double and his second hit everything came together for him textbook back control right right there got a pitch on the outside saw it deep into the zone and just Barrel it up went the other way for the knock here's Muki to hit he's provided a couple of memorable moments already today yeah boo two impactful home runs and the second one came in the eighth inning this guy's swinging a red hot bat in this one intentional walk here with two out they set up a force at any base to end the inning now batting the center fielder Chris Taylor Chris Taylor steps to the plate for the [Applause] Dodgers in the air out towards Right Center Marte going after it he makes the grab and that's the third out so they strand a pair five six and seven will leave things off in the bottom of the night it's the Dodgers five and the Mets two back now and on the mound the closer Evan Phillips this guy's a strike thrower he's done an excellent job of aving walk so far this season now up to him Francisco Lind D the short stop Francisco ly dor and a pitch swinging a foul over the screen and back out of play [Applause] foul ball still ow and two and the righty deals B [Music] fights that one away still one and two swings through it and that's a strike out well you rarely ever see three curveballs in a row because that's one of those pitches that's most effective when you haven't seen it recently you might see three Sliders in a row but right there he was feeling that curveball and figured he could finish with that pitch nmo stands in now and watches strike one well so many hard throwing relievers in the game these days you would think that hitters have made the adjustment but I don't know if you ever get used to it just pumping gas out of the bullpen so hard to play catch up the Mets trailing by three we're in the last half of the ninth inning spoils the two strike pitch and he'll see another goes down swinging for the strike out and they're down to their last out oh it's kind of tough right here closer comes in and he strikes out the first two hitters it's hard not to feel defeated and then this is going to go quickly but you got to go up there maybe try to find a way to choke up on the bat spread out put the ball in play and maybe you can extend this inning Bader stands in here leaves that one off the inside boo he never moved cuz he never had time to but that kind of velocity you'd prefer that pitcher work [Applause] away foul [Applause] ball two down nobody on and it's f out [Applause] away one strike away swing and a miss and he chases that one in the dirt catcher has it fires the first end time ball game and the strikeout ends it it's always nice to grab the opener of a series you come into a new ballpark and just sometimes things aren't as comfortable as what you've been used to the mountain doesn't look stra the background isn't what you like but they didn't let any of those things distract them in fact they looked like they were playing a home game excellent job to set the tone for this series and your final score 52 Dave Robertson company celebrate in The Dugout for
