e [Music] hello Baseball fans and welcome we're going to be treated to a gorgeous day for baseball on the show it's the Los Angeles Dodgers going up against the New York Mets John shamb be with you alongside Chris Singleton so the Los Angeles Dodgers have taken the first two games of this series and today they'll go for the sweep they played well Chris and they're looking for more of the same in this one yeah they've been the side shaking hands on the field after each game so far played solid baseball earn those wins as you said but every game offers up its own unique challenges so we'll see what those are today but there's always a little extra motivation when you have an opportunity to sweep a series all right we'll be back to get this one started after this ready for baseball here in New York and on the hill a soft tossing Lefty just like you Chris Jose kintana what's the scouting report on him yeah I want to see how he handles left-handed hitters in this lineup today because coming in lefties are batting over 300 on the year against him so he's going to have to figure something out to get inside keep them from getting their arms extended and then once conscious of the inside pitch be able to go with something away and finish him off and now the Lefty next offering misses down and away one ball one strike [Applause] the wi and the pitch fights that one away still one and [Applause] two the wine of the pitch just missed it's a good [Applause] take kicks and fires still two and two after the foul ball pitcher having a pretty tough time getting that swing and Miss third foul ball in a row here's a two two here's a high Chopper on the Run throw to first not in time and he reaches safely it was a Heth cut but the same can't be said for the contact he got just enough of the ball to put it in play and that's all he needed tough play for the defense on what was kind of a swinging bun here's Jason Hayward fast ball for a strike going one kintana a former Allstar he features a sinker a for seamer a curve a change up and occasionally mixes in the [Applause] slur there's his swing in a miss this guy at the dish excels in two strike counts got to be careful with him out there on the mound [Applause] the pitch and down on strikes now one away here's teoscar Hernandez he's been on fire at the dish lately can make it a five-game hitting streak with a knock in this one here's a strike [Applause] [Music] roll to short possible two ball off balance speed there's one over to Alonzo double play one hit in the inning but nothing more than that now the Mets offense will go to work for the first time no score [Applause] back here in Queens and on the hill for the Dodgers Walker buer and Chris pitching on the road has not been particularly kind to him yeah and you don't want to be too quick to say that he can't pitch on the road sometimes you know it's just a matter of lock it's not having a feel difference between the bullpen mound to the mound out there on the playing field don't know what it is but I know this he's got good enough stuff to overcome and get it done on the road as well as at home so we'll see what he's able to do in this one Starling Marte the leadoff batter as he looks at ball [Applause] one next offering is in for a strike line drive base hit so a man on base to start the inning batting second no left fielder and here is Harrison B two for eight in the series so far off the plate inside and that is ball one [Applause] [Applause] rander kick steals uhuh he's been raking in recent games and a big reason why getting ahead and counts he's been able to do that consistently and you see the results and a pitch that one misses and that's ball three [Applause] there's the strike Marte gets his lead at first with nobody out and walk time ball four base knock and now a free pass this has the makings of a big inning if they can get a couple quality of bats J here is JD Martinez collected three hits in the loss yesterday that to right squeezes it runer tags it second and he's in safely a third with one out batting four the first B here's a Mets lineup now not a team that usually sees a lot of pitches or Works a ton of walks Chris they take a more aggressive approach than some of the other teams in the league they definitely have a few free swingers in this lineup hitters who want to be on the attack and that's great as long as you got pitches in the zone but if the pitcher is able to expand the Zone can be very difficult for an offense like this to get going you've got to somehow draw some walks put some Runners on base so that when you do have those fre swingers come up you can cash in with some runs that are plated the one and that one fouled off I think ultimately you want to tie him up get the ball in on the plate so that he can't get the barrel to it and hit it to the Outfield two on one out and the count one and two [Applause] and a pitch that ball is foul and the pressure is building foul ball still a one and two count [Applause] [Applause] fights it off you'll see another bu look to First and he's back in standing base runner with a one-way lead right there all he's trying to do is get a look at the pitcher's move had no intent of stealing on that pitch that one just misses if it were an aage catcher behind the play I'd say take second base but this isn't a next for the Mets [Applause] out towards right center field Hayward sizes this one up makes the grab Runner tags from third the throw is off line and he's in the score and it's one nothing so many times that one gets out of here and into the seats but he'll take the sack fly RBI good job to get that run in from third here's Francisco Lindor you don't get ahead in the count you can forget about having any success against him on the corner for a strike it's 0 and one well if he's going to steal second you want him to go early in the count that way he's not a distraction to the hitter at the plate go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch oh and two [Applause] two outs not close with that one and the count is one and [Applause] two run takes off and down on strikes he goes out number three so a run on one hit no errors and a man left we go on to inning number two it's the Mets one and the Dodgers nothing [Applause] [Music] and we're back here's the veteran shortstop M bets well in their win last game this guy came up with two home runs obviously trying to keep the rooll going here in this one as the Lefty gets to work that one finds the Zone that's strike one sliced hard but [Applause] foul turns and fires the BS and that's into turn swing in a Miss pulled the string of the change up definitely made him chase a little bit out of his own right there I don't think that's a strike if he takes did pretty textbook pitching get ahead in the count get the guy in the Box on his heels and then force him to chase your pitch where he doesn't have much of a chance to do any damage and up next for Los Angeles James outman that one ripped but foul outman hitting fifth in today's lineup and he was drafted in the seventh round back in 2018 [Music] one down base is empty no that's out our play umpire Freddy Ferguson the pitch on the ground to third slings the first two up two down at the top of the second good sink low in the zone right there and produced exactly what he was looking for ball on the ground nice ground out here comes Freddy Freeman up to hit he's a left-handed batter who still comes up with good contact and a good average against left-handed pitchers and that one is lifted in the air Bader should have it he's got it and that'll end the inning after an inning and a half it's one nothing and welcome back to the there really good pitch to hit but he took it all the way sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game that may be a Pitch that he turns on crushed left center field this one's deep forg a massive home run his second of the year and they add a run it's two nothing he absolutely crushed that one no doubt about that one boo we knew it wasn't coming [Applause] back just an excellent swing all the way around and it had that sound com off the bat that gets everyone's attention got a pitch to drive short to the baseball squared it up and the backs spin carried it out of here and now it's the switch inning second baseman Ronnie Mauricio fast ball in for a strike one one oh you just got to delete it you give up that lead off home run go back to work focus on this next that one lifted to left Hernandez settles underneath it makes the grab and that'll end the inning the Mets do pick up a run on this solo blast it's now a two nothing ball game Major League Baseball is alive well he's desperately looking for that swing and Miss he's going to have to just change speeds a little bit try to move it around create just a little bit of Illusion at the end the one two battling here as he fouls it away [Applause] and another ball still just the second batter of the inning and on the mount he's already thrown 13 pitches they got him working hard out [Applause] there and the pitch foul ball another two- two upcoming quite the matchup we're seeing here six foul balls in this and bad alone really making them work out there grinding AB right here about to see Pitch two nothing set for the bottom of the third Starling Marte up to the right fielder Garling Marte as he turns on the rubber here with that good live arm delivers outside low one and0 through there for a strike the next pitch misses two and one two balls one strike ripped but it curls [Applause] foul the two two in the air out towards left Center should have this one and it's caught for the out the left fielder number 44 in for New York Harrison Bader and that one fouled [Music] off and here it comes low ball F off foul here's a one-w just misses with that one really close pitch down around the knees there and you could see him asking where it missed probably doesn't agree but it appears he's ready to move on to the next pitch one out base is empty [Applause] comes the two two keeps the back going with a foul ball well he's having a tough time getting a pitch by him as a hitter you feel pretty confident that you're seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact [Applause] and the righty deals that misses three balls two strikes he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three hole hitter coming up if he's walked ninth pitch of the abat do next outside and that his ball four that's a great atat he saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk well he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot hit didn't offer at it now he has somebody to worry about over first he might want to steal second in this spot but he's dealing with a catcher that has one of the best pop times in the game he needs to pick his spot very [Applause] wisely Martinez in the box now as he leaves that one up high and the right-hander deals right around the goal and that's a stolen base not even [Music] [Applause] close man it's second and that's off the Inside Edge it's two and one here's a [Applause] [Applause] strike the pitch Full Count one out and the runner at second here in the last half for the third outside and that is ball four I don't think he really wanted to pitch to him right there anyhow now B the first Pete here's Pete Alonzo drove it a run with a sack fly his first time [Applause] [Music] up swinging a foul straight back well boo it didn't take very long for Alonzo to set the home home run record here at City Field he passed Lucas Duda for the top spot in June of 2023 two on one out and that Clips the inside corner pitch count continues to climb and Chris it is going to be hard for him to get deep into this game with the way this is trending and one and two there's sometimes where you have to pitch to contact to keep your pitch count down allow yourself to get deep into the ball game and that will help him to rack up some more w [Music] is and now it's one and two spoils the two- strike pitch and he'll see [Applause] another righty to the plate and it's even up [Applause] at the belt and fires got him looking that's a strike out well just excellent location on that inside fast ball really locked him up and it's a hitter it's not typically what you're looking for you're trying to protect away and then end so you can be a little bit bit tardy with two strikes hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it' be called the ball but either way that's a really nice pitch so first and second with two outs and the batter will be the short stop Francisco [Applause] [Applause] Lindor two on two outs the short stop takes the ball two walks in the already and he just doesn't seem comfortable out there like he can find the right mechanics and then repeat them and the next pitch is way outside tough spot right here couple Runners on two ball count you can't nibble but you have to execute and finish your pitch if you leave something out over the plate it's going to bring in some runs righty delivers fouls one off two and two two outs swing at a ball lifted to center field he's got it and that is the inning two left for the Mets but they're on top two nothing as we go to the top of the fourth now it's the Dodger lead off hitter Gavin Lu and a pitch he was late there strike one these hits have been very aggressive early in the count but when you're down might want to be a little more patient take some pitches see if you can extend those at bats and get some base runners on that misses the Zone one ball one strike [Applause] [Applause] and now the Lefty and that one hammered Marte drop step going back and it's gone and they're on the scoreboard it's 2-1 well there goes the shut out just like that they're still behind but this is a start well I'm sure there's a big grin on his face right now boo he's probably had some of those that didn't stay fair but off the bat it looked like it was going to been foul was able to keep it in there tucked it nicely and he gets the jog around the base is good for him now Jason Hayward and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter well he's looking great so far it helps when over 80% of your first pitches are strikes he might be able to go the distance if he keeps this [Applause] up missed with a change up and it's one and one you know these Dodgers doing a great job boo of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way and I'm seeing very patient at bats out of him he's only given up one run but the starter's pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense left-and hitter weits stays alive nobody on nobody out top half of inning number four ripped to First CAU he put a really good swing on that pitch andit hit the ball hard you know line drives won't always find a hole but the more you can hit the ball like that with good exit V the better off you're going to be in the long run teoscar Hernandez steps to the plate for the Dodgers swing in a Miss it's 0 and [Applause] one and that's in the part of the order coming through now and with one home run already in this inning they're definitely looking to do some more [Music] [Applause] damage one down base is empty and another [Applause] ball CH now wouldn't chase that time line drive and that should be extra bases now he'll turn for second and now the tying run is into scoring position now B so singy let's dive into the numbers courtesy of stat cat do you even feel contact being made when you hit a ball that hard no I don't think so BR I mean that's just the best feeling in the world is a hitter you square it up perfectly and it's like you didn't even swing the bat and there are times the ball feels heavy off your bat you know it but this is not one of those cases he sent this one flying 114 mph so that's flexing your muscles a little bit Hernandez the runner at second with one away [Applause] gets him to chase after that one good leg sink on that fast ball out of the hand looks so good and then by the time he gets in The Hitting Zone hard to get the barrel to [Applause] it kicks and fires and now one and two I don't like to say he wasted a pitch I think that was a purpose pitch change the eye level have him look up now go back exactly where you want to go bouns it off still one and [Music] two and it's second fights that one away still one and [Applause] two and the pitch BS that off to the left and will do it [Applause] again s and misses struck him out so digging in James outman we talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it but pushing the offensive side for just a second Chris it's the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most well he gets the balls that get by most people at that position just really impressive because there are certain times the ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they've got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away [Applause] kicks [Applause] andial swings through it and that's a strike out so they pick up a run on two hits no errors and a man left to the bottom of inning number four now it's the Mets two and the Dodgers one back here in Queens and now the catcher comes up to him Francisco Alvarez the line of the pitch and that's off the Inside Edge and that's ball [Applause] one popped up to the the left into foul ground sizing this one up puts it away for the out and there's one down got the pitch that he wanted just a little bit quick front shoulder open backside collapsed a little bit and the launch angle not where he needed it to be here's the second baseman Ronnie Mauricio 0 for one he grounded out in his first at bat and that's in for a strike well a good slider from an opposite-handed pitcher has to stay in that tunnel just just a little bit longer otherwise recognition can cause you to Barrel it up and right there The Hitter clearly couldn't do anything with it that misses and it's a ball on a strike one and one faces empty that keeps the inning Alive Now B first and now the first baseman Pete Alonzo Outfield playing very deep not wanting anything over their heads [Applause] first pitch misses the only adjustment he needs to make is his Target if you aim at the outside corner that slider's going to end up way off the plate perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it ground ball Freddy Freeman he takes it himself to the bag and that'll do it Mets leave one they lead it 2-1 Max Muny at the dish struggling on the road this season better results at home Max m and the pitch and a good eye there stirring in the bullpen for the Mets Adam adino up and loosening in the pen Smith getting cranked up as well and there's the ball he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat [Applause] strikeout late with the swing there two and two [Applause] that'ss and misses it's a strike out just a hammer 12 six curveball right there boo that was a exactly what he wanted to do with it not a ton of pitchers can throw a true 126 break but he does and you can't do it any better than he did right there so the lineup flips over Gavin Lux steps to the plate for the Dodgers first pitch just misses the Mets leading by a run and we're the top half of the sixth two balls no strikes to count just miss the well I would expect in this 3-0 count you're taking all the way see if they'll walk you and now three and one 3-1 and he couldn't come up with it it feels to me like his time on the mound is running short starting to show some signs of fatigue so we'll see how much longer they let him go Jason hayy steps to the plate for the Dodgers Zer catches the zone at the knees with the tying run on at first here in the third and final game of the series fouled off he was late with two strikes may see some movement over there first base trying to stay out of the double play right [Applause] here and misses inside and another ball with to lay off that pitch down Lux the runner at first with one gone in the inning swag and a drive deep left field hits the fence makes the turn at second heads for third right past his coach headed for the plate he scores to tie it up it's 2-2 his confidence level is so high really nice job of coming through in a big spot just missed out on a home run right there but he certainly hit it hard enough just didn't have the right launch angle to carry it over the wall but still an excellent swing of the back a chance now to take the lead and at this point in the game that could be a deciding run and here comes the Mets manager to the mound pitching change coming Jose kintana done for the day and he was a tough nut to crack pretty stingy from start to finish back with a new arm after a quick break Adrien Hower takes over on the mound well he struggled quite a bit so this is another opportunity to get on the right track he's given up more than one hit per inning pitch so far this season teoscar Hernandez will hit next one for two pitch misses inside and it's one [Applause] and0 man it's second and that one fouled off the pitch fast ball for a strike one and two definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside really think the outer half is open out to short Lindor tosses the first and Hernandez is out good late bite on that slider got the hitter out in front rolled over on it exactly what it was supposed to do here's Muki now who's so for two with a pair of [Applause] strikeouts and that's in for a strike dangerous spot for that slider right there didn't seem to quite finish out front and get that sharp break tell you what he doesn't want to throw that pitch again fast ball in for a strike 0 and two perhaps not quite ready to hit first two pitches by him for a couple of strikes now back is against the walls going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly man on second two down the short stop takes the [Applause] ball slider misses outside [Music] another payoff pitch and a swing in a miss that ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand Dodgers with a run scoring double 2 two game you're dialed into the show back now for the bottom of the six and there's a new pitcher on the M Nabil prisman well he's been hit pretty hard at times this season as you see with the big ra so this is an important outing for him to get on the right track Francisco Lindor comes up to the plate Lindor the pitch and for Lindor being drafted out of Mont ver Academy he's a guy that's turned into one of the best all-around players in the game there's the [Applause] strike swing a miss and that one missed by a ton one and two count just [Applause] missed two two up the middle Lux lead off man retired in the sixth good fade and sinking action of that change up got that hitter to roll overis Alvarez here's the catcher Francisco Alvarez he's already homered in this [Applause] game and a foul [Applause] ball right-handed reliever that one misses and one and one all tied up here in the bottom of the the six just off the outside edge and it's two and [Applause] one that one back up the middle and it gets through so they get a man aboard with a one out single showed some really nice patience in that at back worked himself into a good count timing on the swing was good to shoot the ball up the middle didn't square up as much as he probably would have liked but that's a good approach paying off one down and now Ronnie Mauricio and that's off the Inside Edge ball [Music] one Alvarez leads off first with one away so two balls and no [Applause] strikes fast ball for a strike two balls one strike right-hander kick Steals and now two and two man he really sells the change up with that arm action [Applause] [Applause] the two two on the way oh can't pick it up cleanly here's one and he's going to make it to First and we'll see how they score it to First not in time great effort there now at the plate Trace Thompson there's a strike and that's in there at the knees quickly down thee pitch is going to be and here and Cur is outside oh ground right just foul the one two and another ball he might have to look for put away pitch right here 22 he's already seen the curveball couple of times in this at bat so might have it timed up and ready for it and now two and two swing and a miss and that is that met strand one score remains deadlock to 2-2 we go to the top of the seven and at the play for the Dodgers James outman the rander back to work pitches in there and that strike W no balls one [Applause] strike and that's downed away [Applause] now swinging and that's the first out well there's a small side of relief right there I mean just to keep that speed off the base pass it's not just the pitcher it's other guys that have to think about it from your infielders have to think about that Runner potentially stealing but also be in position to make a play as an outfielder you're thinking about a base hit to the Outfield I got to get to it quickly to try to keep this guy from taking an extra base so I think everyone just a little more relaxed that he didn't reach BCE Freddy Freeman up to the dish swing and a drive this one is crushed no doubt about it and here in the late stages they had the lead that was blasted to the moon it's 32 he put a charge into that one that was a lightning swing right there no doubt about it well he went up there o looking to do damage I think he had his sight set on that pitch he went and got it and cired the [Applause] bases so one out nobody on next is the Dodger DH sh Otani pretty amazing athlete this guy is power and speed quite a threat I mean you're talking about someone that could steal you a bag and go deep Bo Jackson [Applause] anyone and that's outside when you have a real athletic player and who's able to do the baseball mechanical things really well look out because the sky the limit on that potential [Applause] one down base is empty that Clips The Zone and that is strike two and another ball fell on the mound this is a spot where he's got to treat this as a clean inning forget about the Home Run forget about now being behind on the scoreboard start fresh and get those hitters back up to the plate as quickly as possible got him look couldn't pull the trigger on a fast ball at the knees now just ripped a page out of the Greg Maddox Playbook throw that pitch at the hip and just watch it jump back over the inside part of the plate tell you what you are baffled expecting that to almost hit you and then end up as a called strike Smith In The Box again takes the strike [Applause] two down nobody on and a foul [Applause] ball right to the plate swing and a miss struck him out he's swung over top of the curveball one scores in the inning
