S5 W9 Redskins vs Colts

hello everyone I'm Larry Ridley you're tuned the NF the first two months of the regular season down what will the final two bring us as we're off in week nine this will be fielded at the eight and he'll get it up to about the 26 yd line just across the 25 so out comes the Redskins offense now onto the field and we get a glance here at their leader the man who will be calling the plays under Center [Applause] and he's not going anywhere to start the night they stop him at the line of scrimmage no gain on the play there second down and the buffet boys the o line hopefully they're ready today listen you got to feed them first but if you do you usually get a great product out on the field and when they play well the quarterback can't wait to feed them [Applause] afterwards now a hand off here to his running back and he's able to take this one up to the 35 yd line it'll be a pick up of 10 yds and that is going to set up a third and one look the first down marker out there but sometimes it's hard to find for an offense when they're in a long yardage situation which usually means throw the football in this case they went against the tendency and ran it and boy the reward was there a big big pickup and guess what it's now third and very short in order to try and pick up a first down a hand off as they run the counter play and he will lose yardage back to the 34 yd line a loss of a yard and it brings up fourth excellent effort defensively by him two tackles for a loss last week now one here in the first quarter he's an absolute disruptor isn't he and I think most offenses would love to go against guys who just want to hold the point of attack and try and keep things clean for their linebackers but when they make those moves and they can get up field past the offensive line into the back field that's hard to handle he punted five times in the win last week as this one's away [Applause] the Colts offensive unit ready to see what they can do here and you know certainly a lot of football left to be played we're not into December yet but right now where we stand they're first place in their division looking good looking to be a threat come January and let's think about what every team has in their goals all right number one goal is what make the playoffs number two goal is win your division number three goal and the biggest goal I think is to be the high and now did he step out of the end zone yes he did the referee says he stepped out and that is going to be a safety well we we thought these two defenses they might come to play one has already come to play here a safety for the opening points of the game Brandon let's file this play away because if it turns out to be a tight game who knows this could wind up being the difference [Applause] so free kick situation forthcoming from the 20 as they'll punt this one away and an alley to run and he'll be brought down somewhat awkwardly here and a late flag as well I think this one's going to be a face Mas face defense the official so cognizant of that call nowadays but that would look pretty easy yeah you're right they took out of their hands having to wonder whether it's a 5 yard or a 15 yd inadvertent or not now it's a lot easier you see it you call it and he'll give it here to his running back and he's going to fight his way forward here for a modest gain it's a pick up of four and it'll bring up second down partner your thoughts on this D line I love a unit that can control the run and get after the passer this is an allaround terrific defensive front hard to move the ball against him on the ground and then when you want to throw it look out here they come after the quarterback six yds to go here on second down they'll run it now out of the gun and this time he's not going anywhere they'll get him down right at the line of scrimmage they'll say no gain on the play there and now it'll be third down big boys down there in the trenches and a nice play to stop them cold nothing there yeah when you talk about big boys you talk about those defensive tackles those nose tackles they're not just big they're immense and what a big time play there and on third down the Colts have added an extra defensive back flooding the passing Lanes right here we go green back to throw he's going to flip that out to the flat it's complete and he'll get it down on the play to the 37 call it a one yd gain on the play and it'll be fourth down partner I think that completion takes the definition of Dink and dunk to a different level doesn't it it does and the defense was right there kind of played into their hands the Redskins send out their pter as he's on to kick it away and this will be out of bounds and they spotted at the at the 15 yd line not too bad and the Colts coming out now and a big no no last time a safety to make this score two nothing where we stand now so see if they can atone for that mistake you give up points but on the flip side to positive side after you punted the ball away or kicked it away defense H defense held for you so there's a little bit of relief there now they know they can get back out on the field run their offense and try not to put their defense in a bad spot again these are his numbers from last week's contest 15 carries 55 yds after the last game they had plenty of reason to be confident in the the running game and even though they're facing a top 10 defense they're not going to shy away from doing what they do best make them adjust to them make them stop what they do before they go to any type of a change up looking left side and he's got a in it's KY and he'll be taken down but not before he gets this football out shy of the 30 to the 29 the numbers for Kelly a week ago five catches 80 yards and I get the feeling that he loves this matchup I mean the unit he's going against is in the bottom half of the league against the pass he had to have circled this one on the schedule and said to himself this should be a big game able to get away that's why you keep the legs churning and seeing no options he just tosses this one away incomplete now that'll bring up second down hope I don't sound too Rah r on that one but that's the exact right throw either your receiver gets it or no one gets it give him a lot of credit for being really precise with it got rid of it no one got it he'll try again with the arm here on second down and the Redskins do get to him he goes down for a sack partner I know the ball Securities preach like crazy but every now and then you got to know when to get rid of the football and save a little bit of yardage if you're a quarterback because now if you're the offensive coordinator what does it do if it was third and 10 versus third and much longer as it is now yeah changes everything in terms of play calling and the pressure you might expect to face on the very next down had to throw the ball away and save the yardage he didn't get it done and the Redskins have an extra man in the secondary here on [Music] [Applause] third throw left side complete that's Robertson and he's got the first before he's brought down at the 3 yd line give the Colts 13 yds and a first down so the offense has it first and [Applause] 10 this one complete to his fullback out of the back field and he'll go down right around the 47 this time call it a pick up of seven and it'll make it second down completed pass play now let's see if they go back back to the air or to the [Applause] ground he's going to hit his man out of the back field complete and he's brought down the passing game for the Colts finding its stride another first down we can talk all we want about football being a game of strength and Braun it's also a game of mismatches and they were trying to create one there getting it to their back back out of the back field to make a bigger play as we often say get it to him in space let him use his leg Yeah if he can get a match up against a linebacker or maybe a defensive end dropping out in his Zone Blitz he's going to win that battle just about every time all right here we go green 39 on first down they'll run it on the draw play and he was able to shed The Tackle but the reserves come in for the Stop five yds on the carry good pick up on first down it's really simple to say that they know their identity that they are a passing team but one of the reasons that they're so successful they know how to mix in the run and make sure that they keep the defense off balance and not able to just simply say let's go get the quarterback and disrupt things hurry up here we go throwing left side here and it's complete and taking it to the 15 yd line before he's brought down another good reception there the Colts on the March now this will be the ninth play on this drive we go now green 39 and now here's a carry heading left another nice gain 13 yds that time and another first down I love when a play results in a game that I can actually kind of fall back on one of my favorite adages and that is any time there's a run over 10 yards it means that the offensive line did its job but you know who else did wide receivers because the first seven yards kind of belong to the offensive line in the running back anything after that means the wide receivers did a great job of blocking down field being willing to mix it up and give them some more space to gain additional yardage they come out here in the eye and to give this time to the tailb and he'll go backwards losing yardage to the five it's a loss of two there bringing up second down well we know that the identity of this offense is to throw the ball they've got to run it every so often for no other reason than to Tamp down the pass rush they can't let him just tee off and get to their quarterback and he will push his way forward down to about the three yd line and give him two yards officially and now it'll be third and goal his path became similar to almost running a stretch play didn't it trying to find a crease anywhere to put his foot in the ground and cut back it just never materialized here we now a hand off here to his running back and he's into the end zone touchdown Indianapolis a great play there his first touchdown on the year and the Colts are in for six well they decided to run it in and got it done on Third and goal a lot of times that's a passing play the kicker this has to come out for the pat he can breath the S of relief as well right although I don't know if he's breathing a side relief I think he likes to put three points on his ledger so that one a 13pl drive in total and it ends with a three yd scoring run the kickoff team on the field now as they will send this one away this will be fielded at the eight and a good return as he'll be stopped just shy of the Third 30 Y [Applause] Line a look at Washington as they come onto the field this is their third drive right now maybe not about points just about getting something they haven't gotten a first down yet in this game it's a mental barrier you don't think about until you go a couple of drives without getting a first down then all of a sudden it looms big it gets harder and harder to actually attain that first first down here we go now they try the right side here and room to run as he's up past the 35 yd line it's a seven yd carry to set them up with a second and three if these kinds of lanes are available you have to feel like he's going to have a pretty big game on the ground yeah you can tell early on he's got a little burst in his step and that's a big pickup right there on first down and just prior to the snap time is going to run out on this first quarter of action 7-2 is our score we'll come back to Indianapolis after [Music] this back live Charles Davis to my right I'm Brandon Garden it's football to begin quarter number two they're looking at a second and short yardage to start things [Applause] out now a shotgun snap as they'll look to throw oh he dropped it they were looking for him in the middle third he couldn't catch it now third down fair to say hasn't been his best game throwing the football but also not getting a lot of help out there either yeah you kind of you nailed it pretty well you know he's got to throw it better got to get more help obviously one that should have been caught they got to find a way to bring those those two elements together so he can make some progress in this one he'll look to throw and he's got Rome Le he's got the first and a little extra and he's taken down but not before he gets this into enemy territory across the 40 they give him 27 yds on the third down conversion go9 on first down they'll run it on the draw play and this time the yards won't come so easy as they'll in fact tackle him behind the line well you got to team that sit 28th in the league in rushing so I guess you're going to see some plays like that yeah you're definitely going to do that but just not like you just abandon the run you got to keep taking your shots don't you but this point of the Season they've been very [Applause] successful and he's just going to get rid of this thing to no one here he throws it away and now it's third and some space here and he gets it down a yard or two shy of the 30 before he's out of bounds seven yds on the play and that's going to bring up a fourth down the send out their putter as he's on here to putt it away he's been a busy man here in this first half as he gets it away and now Indianapolis set to take the field they had to go the length of the field last time out to get into the end zone and with this starting field position they're going to have to pretty much do it again and I think the thought process going into it is hey if you have to be methodical go ahead and do that but what you really want are a couple of big plays eat up chunks of yardage and cut down the number of times you have to snap the football now a hand off as they run left side and able to get this across the 20 before going out of bounds it's a 6yd gain on the ground and that'll make it second and four some runs are blocked so well you almost forget that someone has to carry the ball to gain the yardage the leverag by the offensive line to create space up front really well [Applause] done and a quick throw here that's complete and he'll go down just shy of the 25 at the 24 yd line only three yds on the catch it's third down well there wasn't much there with that hitch route they didn't gain what they expected but sometimes when you call a hitch you really don't have an alternate to go to you don't have a second route to throw it to so sometimes you have to rifle in there and hope for the best I see an extra defensive back on the field little surprise here on Third and [Applause] one he's got the hook up to Lee and he gets it to the 34 good enough for the first that's good for an Indianapolis first down on the of 10 and Brandon from our time in college football where receivers weren't running the traditional NFL route tree one thing they did learn find open areas find soft spots and set up and catch the ball and I think we just saw that there we saw that indeed picking up the first now a play fake here on first down looking left side and he's got him in that's Lee he got 29 yds that time all right here we go and this is [Applause] incomplete and on the outside they're playing press coverage [Applause] back to throw now on second and 10 and he fires one that's intercepted picked off around the 27 room here to run and he will score touchdown Washington I don't know who all is to blame there but I love seeing pick sixes nothing like seeing someone pluck it out of the air and go the other way and see people try to change change directions hard to [Applause] do Dustin Hopkins on now to add the extra [Applause] point it's up and good and the lead now moves to 97 so they'll get another shot on off offense following that pick six and now the kick is away this will be taken in at the one and a big tackle there as the defender runs right through him at the 22 yd line and now Indianapolis set to take the field and following the pick six and they have decent field position in throwing that pick six we'll see how they attack this drive and I think all you say to your guy is listen let's just take care of the football a little bit better make some better decisions on this drive and they'll probably help him a little bit with maybe some really high percentage throws early to let him get settled back in they told them they told us they've got confidence that that's not a problem yeah not a problem at all they just want to make sure they get things settled down a little bit for their offense and give their defense a little bit of a chance to rest anytime you decide to use your quarterback as a runner most of the time when you design a play You're expected to break a little bit bigger than this one because when you run him on short gains your risk reward and him taking hits I'm not sure that's the payoff they were looking [Applause] for and he's going to be taken down with a marker on the field so let's see about the [Applause] [Music] calling so a decent gain but all for not on the penalty it's too bad isn't it they were feeling pretty good about it the only people celebrating the guys who just gave up that play [Applause] back to throw here and seeing nowhere to throw he Chucks this one away from harm incomplete now it's third [Applause] down the Colts on third down a perfect three for three as they look to keep that streak going this will be a tough third and [Applause] 18 oh it's a screen pass that's complete the screen good for six but it's not enough as it leads to a fourth down the died up the screen pass on third down and for a second it looked like it was all going to come together and they had a chance to pick up a first down but the defense got there and finished it off and last week in the loss five punts as he gets this one away fair catch taken just inside the 40 yd line so possession goes over here on the punt and it'll be Redskins football now with first and 10 the Redskins offense now they head back onto the field so far they've had three drives three punts not good not good indeed because you've got to have something to show for being out on the field now sometimes if you have a game where neither side is scored three punts isn't a bad thing but when you're trying to set the pace get up on top in a game you got to show better offense and find a way to put some points on the board room to run past Midfield and he's Tak to the pass and no escaping this time as he'll go down they got him for a sack how about that one of the soall little guys putting the pressure on that was a strong safety and I was in college we often call that a lightning Blitz under four to go now as the clock runs and they come up on second down right here we go green 39 throwing the out route incomplete it's Roth and this time not quite to the 30 it'll be down at the 31 yd line six yds is the pickup and that'll lead to a third down on that quick throw what do you think possibly something they saw at the line to go there possibly possibly and no escaping this time as he'll go down they got him for a sack well certainly some teams are not intimidated by down and distance on defense are they third and very long let's go get this guy again big time pressure the punt team on now as this one sent away and this will carry out of bounds where are they going to spot it now at about the yd line it looks like and now Indianapolis set to take the field and on the last go round they really couldn't get anything going they had to punt from deep inside their own territory which means you're going to lose the field position battle as a general rule what they're looking for now is a little more consistency move the ball at least a few times on offense get a couple of first downs and hopefully flip the field Yeah just something to build off of that's what they're looking for here that good for 22 and a first down well partner I have to say they caught him in the right defense there Nicholl set fifth defensive back on the field and they love to run against that because now you typically get a bigger Blocker on a smaller Defender yeah cuz those DBS like you they want the interception they're not as worried about the running play right not at all and I I used I I still remember being in school at one of my offensive line teammates used to say boy I love to come down fi hit you little people good run there Here We Go 39 back to throw now on first down and to the 42 yd line here and brought down there it'll be a three yd gain and it'll bring up a second [Applause] down from the shotgun he'll look to throw and he finds a man with a Crossing route and he's taken down but not before he gets this into enemy territory across the 40 a good pick up there of 20 yds looking to throw over the middle and it's incomplete so second and 10 here [Applause] we now back to throw throw left side complete that's Kelly and brought down but not before they're inside the 25 the passing game for the Colts finding its stride another first down [Applause] they'll set up to throw quick hitter here it's complete a gain of six there on first now before this second down play we'll get whistles and a timeout as they'll stop it with just over a minute to go before halftime [Applause] and we are back here I'm Brandon G alongside Charles Davis so the offense takes the timeout and now we're set to get going they're going to look to throw his throw caught in about the five and he takes this one in for a Colts touchdown and on this play he just made a great route the quarterback had to deliver it sure but a great rout run there and Brandon this is what the best receivers do they work on their route running because it's one thing to have athletic ability but to really get open you have to set up defensive backs with different routes and be precise in your Cuts vet ter now to tack on the Pat and the lead is up to five so the drive there took six plays and it culminates in an Indianapolis touchdown out is the kickoff unit as they run up and send this one away this will be taken about the 12 and they're going to start this drive in pretty good shape as they get it up past the 30 [Applause] getting set to go again as we look at the back heading on to the field again he's been good they've utilized him well but they're losing here in the second quarter what might they change offensively I think that what you try and do is expand how you get the ball to them a little bit get him out an open space maybe swing the ball to him what's that they used to call the West Coast offense the long hand off serve as your running play that way as well as continue to feed him the football some of these runs now May pop bigger later during the game because of the effects of running it sometimes people after a while they don't want to tackle him anymore or they get tired or they get out of position or he runs through tackles continue to feed him the ball he's having that kind of game yeah might they get him the ball in some space in some different ways here and he is out of bounds inside the 35 that one goes for 24 yds [Applause] so here we go first and 10 now we they'll look to throw got his man complete over the middle that's Roth and before this second down play we'll get a whistle a signal and timeout as they stop it here with just under 40 ticks to go in this first half so the offensive unit called the to and now we are ready to resume [Applause] play again he'll drop to throw finding his safety valve here that's complete call it a gain of three and that'll make it third and one the Redskins on third down just one for five to this point they're up against a third and one situation they'll look to throw here over the middle complete it's Roth and he picks up the first as he's able to take it down to the seven yd line the Redskins going to go ahead and use their final timeout as they'll stop it with 13 seconds to play in half number one he'll look to throw and it's caught and he's able to get it down to the 2 yd line that'll bring up second and goal after the gain of five so we've come to halim in a five-point game as we send you down to our EA Sports Studios in Orlando where we find our man Larry Ridley with our halftime report all right Brandon back to you in Charles in a bit but first let's get you caught up on all the highlights from the first half the Colts are happy to be sitting in the Lo room with the lead the Redskins didn't play their best and they'll need to be at their best now to come back so let's take a look at the highlights from the first half Colts have it Midway through one wion's got a completion here into coverage and he'll end up at the 35 yd line before being tackled Co still on the field hand off and run goes up the middle and he cap off the long drive with the TD they go ahead by five first and 10 Le found on the quick Quick Pass and he'll be tackled at the 36 yd line Colts later on the drive winson's under pressure and will throw the pick Grant skins take it back all the way for the score that takes the lead up to two Colts on second and seven wion's got the completion out of the gun and he'll eventually be brought down but not before getting to the 37 yd line continuing on the drive Kelly's wide open able to make the grab and this five play Drive goes for a touchdown the Colts up now by five so that'll do it from here let's get back out to Brandon and Charles they've got the second half from Indie Brandon this is fielded at the goal line and he'll take this across the 25 couple extra yards up to the 27 yd line out come the Colts they'll have it first here to start quarter number three they have the lead now they'll be looking for some separation here as we begin the third quarter I like the way you term that because now I think they go a little bit deeper into their playbook they like what they did in the first half that worked okay but in order to get the separation that you just talked about change things up a little bit change your Tendencies try and hit them a little bit a little bit more with some things they didn't see in the first half see if they do just that officially no gain on the play and it's second down and he got off the end there very quickly to make that play yeah it was almost like the bullet train wasn't it I mean just zoom quick quick quick and what a terrific play holding them to no gain now he'll look to throw here on second and 10 got his man complete over the middle that's Robertson and he's brought down after a good gain a good pick up there of 22 they go playaction here on first down and no escaping this time as he'll go down they got him for a sack oh free safety Blitz that can be a gamble but it proves fruitful there yeah you're exactly right about the gamble because often times the free safety is the last line of defense against the long pass and when he comes at the quarterback he better get home and make the play otherwise a big play could result for the [Applause] offense looks like the defense in press coverage here all right here we go the playaction fake they'll look to throw and the pressure gets to him [Applause] again the amount of sacks that they've absorbed in this game is absolutely extraordinary let's just face it this offensive line flat out cannot handle this pass rush it's been demonstrated time and time [Applause] again need something from deep in the bag of tricks here after first and second down went backwards it's third and very long hey hey hey hey here we go they'll drop to throw out to the flat that's complete to his running back and certainly some style points there on the spin not a whole lot thereafter but still a pretty good gain it's a gain of six on the play and that's going to make it fourth down the Colts send out their punter as he'll come on to kick this one away [Applause] taking at about the 16 they'll score that a 36 yd Punt and out will come the offense as they take over so now we look at the Redskins offense getting ready for their first possession of the second half they were able to get the stop defensively now a chance really to set the tone here in quarter three they can really take charge can't they and this is probably how it was drawn up in the half I think we can go inside the locker room all right and I think we would see up on the grease boards stop them defensively get the ball back from the offense and let's go downfield and score seems simple right the last part we have to find out if that's going to happen but the first part worked to Perfection did exactly what they wanted and now their offense has to pay it off see if they can get the ladder 50% out of the gun they'll look to throw call it a gain of seven and it gets him a new set of [Applause] downs they'll look to throw now on first down and is throw here's incomplete had open man that time but end up putting a little too much heat on it don't you think partner absolutely just needed a touch more air under it instead he fired an absolute bullet second down now after the incompletion 39 and he'll give it here to his running back and able to get this one across the 45 before he's brought down and a nice carry there of 15 yards and that run was what a lot of people call an explosive run gave them good yardage solid yardage they feel good about the whole thing and they did it behind a two tight end set it's always interesting to watch what offenses want to do with the two tight end sometimes they line them up together for a power set sometimes they put one on each side of the line scrimmage to balance things out no matter what though when you see two tight ends on the field your first thought is to think of run in this case the offense was able to run successfully just a yard on the first down carry so it's second and [Applause] nine they'll run it now out of the gun and able to push his way forward here for a good little gain it's a four- yd pickup there and it leaves him with third and five I don't care what the emphasis is in the NFL at any given time every defense is still going to say their number one goal every game is stop the run and right now they're not doing that and that really CHS away at your confidence they'll run it now out of the gun and he's got the first before he's brought down at the 39 yd line nine yds on the pickup there and it keeps the drive alive that's quite a spot there for his first Carry of the game but obviously they had plenty of faith in him didn't they no question about it and here why not go with the fresh legs able to push forward pick up that first [Applause] and to give this time to the tail back and down inside the 35 he goes to the 32 yd line a solid run on first down gain of seven leaves him with a second and three hey when you get good yardage like that on first down it really does a whole lot of good for your entire offense but I love the way he's finishing those runs at the end of things he's making sure he gets just a little bit [Applause] extra now a hand off here to his running back and he'll do a nice job here just to fight his way back to the line of scrimmage call it no gain that time as it's going to leave him with a third and about three to go the Redskins on third down three for seven so far in this game this time it's third and three and he'll give it here to his running back and he's not even going to get back to the line of scrimmage that'll make it fourth down after a loss of one well that play was doomed right from the start he just about ran into every defender on that one didn't he it felt like everyone got a piece of that tackle the Redskins send out their putter as he'll come on for his fifth kick of the [Applause] night and he deserves a bronze leg as he gets this one away and they won't risk defending a return here that one's out of bounds and it'll be spotted spotted at the 14 yd line and now Indianapolis set to take the field and a tight game after punting last time see if they can get something going on this drive as they head to the field now with a game this close you got to feel there's a sense of urgency for them going on offense right now but they have to do it without letting Panic creep in and affect their play and brought down but not before they're able to get it up to the 25 10 yds there to start the drive and just enough by about the length of the football for a first down now on first down he'll drop to throw it looking left side and he's got a in it's Kelly and they get him down but not before he takes it across the 40 yd line good yardage there for the Colts 18 and a first down [Applause] and to give this time to the tail back and he'll lose yardage here back at the 41 that's going to go as a loss of two and it'll be second down came out in a power set but that only served to put more men in the box and guess what if you're going to do that you've got to win up front right your offensive guys have got to beat the Defenders they lost all leverage on that play looking to jam the receivers at the line here press coverage look [Applause] defensively he'll drop to [Applause] throw and he's just going to get rid of this thing to no one here he throws it away and now it's third [Applause] the Colts on third down they've converted three out of five thus far this is third down and [Applause] 12 hard throw incomplete [Applause] the Colts send out their punter as he's on to kick it [Applause] away and he'll get credit for putting him inside the 20 as the fair catch is made right at about the 19 yd line the Redskins offense now they get set to take over here these guys had to punt their last possession and that's become too familiar of a refrain too many of these drives just wound up going nowhere well you know how in baseball when the pitcher gets a base hit and he's on base they bring his jacket out to him to keep him warm a lot of times the punter goes to the sideline puts on sweatpants or a rack over his leg to keep it warm he might need a massage from the trainer right now from all the work he's getting he finds some open field here and he'll get this up to the 30 yd line give him 11 yds that time and a new set of downs [Applause] and on the outside they're playing press coverage one quarter the good stuff quarter number four they'll look to throw here on first down and an alley to run and able to get this one across the 45 before he's brought down he got 18 yds out of that one and it continue not too many teams that use a first round pick on a tight end so you know that when one does he's got to be pretty darn special a small example of why they took him in the first round there nice little catch and run to get the good yardage off the play fake he'll look to throw and this will be incomplete so they're still at the original line of scrimmage here second down and tail 39 and it moves the chains he's a rookie and you don't want to get hung up on the word potential but when you see him make catches like that you keep thinking to yourself he's good now he's got a chance to be great with plenty of work looks like the defense in press coverage here we and no escaping this time as he'll go down they got him for a sack and we talk about players blitzing all the time I often laugh and sometimes call it just straight ahead Pursuit what a running start right back to the back field for him yeah it really didn't give anybody a chance to get up there and stop him no I mean that's really really difficult you're asking a whole lot anyway but when he gets that kind of a start and comes through clean often times the advantage definitely goes to the defensive player running back and he takes it in touchdown Washington a great effort there his second touchdown on the season and the redsk have taken the lead here in the fourth quarter sometimes a group that gets overlooked certainly the offensive line right there they really helped with that score didn't they tell us in our meeting that when we score touchdowns running the ball that means the offensive line actually scored first by moving people back Beyond The End Zone we saw evidence of that on that play Here We Go Green 39 green 39 and this one caught and their fourth quarter lead Grows by a couple more so they make the decision they want a three-point lead versus a two-point lead and they got it yeah at this stage of the game it seems like the exact right thing to do put a little pressure on your defense but the biggest thing now is you're making the other team chase you this is taken at the three and he'll take this across the 25 couple extra yards up to the 27 yd line [Applause] and the Colts getting ready to go they punted last time they had it what steps Charles you think they have to take to make sure they don't do that again well let's just go to the football 101 the trit expression 101 win first down make five six seven yards on first down and make it a second and three second and manageable keep accumulating first downs that way keep moving the football you don't number of good games in the afternoon sessions but this Sunday night it might top them all we come up here on First and 10 and his throw is incomplete and on second and 10 now [Applause] and incomplete there a nice hit jars the ball free and brings up third [Applause] down the Colts on third down they've hit four of seven this is third and 10 all right here we go green he can't avoid the pressure Redskins get there my man it's been a rough night for that offensive line and it's only getting rougher five sacks now that they've given up in this contest so far it feels like the witching hour out here doesn't it okay stupid question what's the witching witching hour yeah the witching hour that's when everything goes Haywire late at night the Colts send out their punter as he's on to punt for the fourth time [Applause] tonight fielded at the 20 43 yd punt but they get nine back on the return and the offense will take over with a new out of downs and here come the Redskins now and they're hoping to redo their efforts in the last drive when they got into the end zone and just think of what it's like now on the sideline because when you score a touchdown you have to go over and look at the tablet and see what you did on the last drive when you scored points it's a whole lot better view than when you're trying to figure out how to fix things there they'll come out throwing here to start the drive quick hitter here it's complete and he's brought down but not before getting across Midfield to the 45 a very solid gain of 27 that looked like a pretty good route combination there because you've got to find a way to clear the guy running the drag cuz when you do you just put the ball on him and then let him run yeah he's got some space [Applause] they'll run it now out of the gun and he'll lose yardage here back at the 47 it's a loss of two there bringing up second down all right partner despite my eating habits I'm not big enough to play offensive tackle nor am I quick enough but with the defensive ends nowadays and their speed those guys have to be able to punch and dance and it's a tough tough job to contain [Applause] them now a shotgun snap as they'll look to throw throwing right and that's complete and the stop here will come at the 38 yd line eight yds on the completion but now they face third down this a big play for both sides what will we see here third and four we go he'll look to throw firing quickly here and that's complete and he's going to have the first down yardage as he's down at about the 30yd line eight yds on the pickup there and it moves the sticks just sit on it here could they had to throw the ball on third down got the big completion in the pickup fresh set of downs now they've got to feel great and defensively a back breaker now the offense lining up first and 10 now they'll run on the draw and he will lose yardage here to the 31 yd line it's a loss of a yard there and now second down the best play callers in any League know how to break their Tendencies they study themselves they self Scout and they realize most of the time you don't call a draw play on First and 10 so every so often you insert that play just to make the defense think even if it's not successful and he's going to be taken down pressure gets there back at the 39 yd line time for a break we'll come back see what transpires after [Applause] this so it's football here as we welcome you back and let's see what they've come up with offensively after having time to talk it over possibly a turning point big play coming this is third and long [Applause] and they'll run it here and he'll take this one down to the 36 the Redskins send out their pter as he'll come on to kick for a six time tonight and they'll play keep away from the returner as this one will be marked out of Bounds at the 13 yd line pretty good spot out comes this field General once more leading his offense back onto the field and the passing game I mean look at the numbers it's falling off when a team is struggling sometimes you look at the quarterback when the quarterback starts to struggle who goes over and picks him up yeah that's always a big one isn't it usually there's a quarterback Whisperer somewhere and what I mean by that is whether it's an assistant coach whether it's one of his best friends on the team someone that can get in his ear get with him and say all right man what do you need what's going on here there always one person he can lean on he's going have to lean on that guy right now couple extra defensive backs out there in the dime and because of that really not many places to throw the football if any and typically what would you want to do against that dime run the football you want run the ball but you can't do it in this situation not nearly enough time on the clock you having to really navigate against a tough defense presented against you throwing for his running back and he's got him complete and he's got the first as they'll bring him down at the 28 yd line seven yds there good enough to move the sticks he's back to throw it's incomplete took a shot couldn't connect these are the spots this stage of the game where it pays to have speed on the perimeter doesn't it it certainly does and in the second quarter he may very well run by him but in this situation I know as a Defender I'm loosening up a couple of extra steps that allowed him to run with him stride for stride 10 yds still left on second [Applause] down they'll look to throw looking middle and that's complete the Colts going to use the first of their timeouts as they'll talk it over here before what'll be an important third [Music] down9 back to throw a bullet throw but incomplete the incomplete pass we'll get a timeout here for an injured player we'll check on his status when we get [Applause] back one score down here we go they're going to go for it here on fourth down here we go now 39 39 he'll look to throw and that is incomplete they had to go for it with such little time remaining and the Redskins are going to win the football game so now let's reset here Charles they do have two timeouts left so they can stop the clock twice this one's not quite over yet no and what you're doing on defense you're going to use both time outs obvious ly but you've got to call defenses are going to force the issue early meaning you want that play over fast you don't want to give them time to dance around in the back field and run a wide sweep they'll take off time Blitz them put pressure on them make sure that play ends quickly so you can go ahead and keep moving offense looking to avoid a third and long it's second and 10 let's go they'll run it now out of the gun and brought down but not before they're inside the 25 now the defense will burn their third and final timeout and as the two teams talk it over on their respective Sidelines we take a break [Applause] the Redskins they can smell Victory now they take a KNE down to the knee one more time and that should just about do it [Applause] a road win in the National Football League Charles you never take that for granted no matter who you're playing no matter where you're playing you take it and you run with it and you know you prime the pump all week in your own home facility no one thinks we can do this only people who believe are right here in this room and then you go on the road band together and get it done so for Washington they'll finish the first half of the schedule dead even at 4 and four and they'll return home next week to take on the Detroit Lions meanwhile for the Colts they'll fall to five and three with a loss and they'll try to rebound next week on the road in Nashville that'll do it for us for Charles Davis and all our
