welcome to yolman Stadium in New Orleans home to the Tain green wve and as this city likes to say let the good times roll and the two a fans are certainly ready for that as we wind our way toward the end of another college football season one of the Grand Traditions is paying tribute and respect to those who have just poured their souls into the success of this program and honor the seniors on senior day as we'll see a squad from Conference USA no flames taking on a squad hoping to prevent another L this week the two Lan green wve for EA Sports college football I'm Reese Davis joined here in the booth by David p and Jesse Palmer and guys let's get this thing started he'll bring it out it's gr he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 here's his offense with a fresh set of downs they'll run the RPO and throw it right and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few and I think you're seeing these guys in every offense now these little are guys that they're so quick it's hard to get a hand on them run crisp routes you can throw it short you can throw it long but they're just big time Playmakers you definitely an emphasis shift towards smaller wide receivers with some serious skill leaves it with the back stacked up after gaining a couple to the 23 the big defensive tackles in the middle they're not always the best pass rushers but they are strong and I say Country Strong they put their hands on you you feel it they lock people out on the line of scrimmage they create separation they wrap running backs up and usually they don't get out of the midst of those big boys hand off to the lone back and they're able to get a third down stop here see if they go for it on four BR [Applause] up the Flames will putt this one away he's going to try to flip the field with this one [Applause] he gets a Block they'll put a stop to that return at about the 37 yd line here comes the offense on first down the run from the shotgun and how about that interior defense stuffing the Run for nothing great team defense on that run play everybody doing their job people winning their one-on ones D lineman staying in their gaps linebackers and DBS filling you just can't do it better got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 the give to the back and it'll be a pick up of nine they're facing a third and one just a simple power play again not sex run the ball up the middle physicality offensive line gets to assert themselves run block what they love to do this pays dividends down the road the fourth quarter third down after the run Thompson wants to throw fires to the wide out and they can't make the play on third down defense did a great job third and short on the opponent side of the field they're expecting quick throw everybody they dug their heel in the ground they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion Tain forced to send out the punt unit they'll look to pin him deep first one is away and boy did he put him work in that loss last week kicking it five times and the ball comes to rest right there dude how about that boom I mean you talk about power that dude just booted that thing halfway across the field completely flipping the field position and getting it down inside the 10 that is a nice job by that play in The End Zone looking to fire fires to the big fella and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up well they're able to find the tight end for an easy completion but good job tackling not allowing him to get the first down now after the short completion it's second Down Standing in his own End Zone looking to throw quickly out to the tight end really confident throw and catch there big pickup and they have a first down really nice job there by the quarterback understanding it's Blitz and not just that it's Blitz but knowing whether it's man coverage or Zone coverage behind the blitz you've still got to know where your answer is going to be based on what the defense is doing in the back end and he add the answer to the test right there finds a little bit of space he'll get three out to the 15 know I think a big part of this isn't necessarily scoring a touchdown on that plate but you're just trying to get your offensive line in the rhythm of the game let those Big Fellas get lathered up he's back to throw on second down they've got the screen set up he almost picked up the first down on that one but he'll be just a little bit short well a nice Gainer on that running back screen now how about the offensive line getting down field and getting blocks to really help out the back find some space to go to work offense calls a timeout here critically important to make sure they have the right play called and everyone on the same page here passing game very effective on second down what about here on third quick pass on the jet motion and the completion gives him a fresh set of downs and keeps this drive moving I just love the play call you're getting a fast player out in the open field and it's enough to get you a first in and the Flames are moving M quickly down the field they'll move the running back to try to force the defense to adjust pocket starts to collapse hit hard as he released the ball on that first down pass and didn't never had a chance well this defense felt coming into the game that if he was going to try to throw from the pocket they could get to him and affect his accuracy and they did on that last play after the incompletion it's second and 10 from their own 25 tun tun couldn't connect on first down now back to the air this time he's got it there to make the tackle but the big throw is good enough to give them a first down I like this tight end he does a really nice job on his route running he's been beating man coverage he can find the soft spots and zones you got to get him involved the Flames have it with the first and [Applause] 10 he's going to pass cats open down the middle well the drag routs put in this Playbook to fight against manto man coverage so there you see the receiver using his speed working his way across the field he gets Separation on the DB trying to Trail him makes the catch turns it up field for the first first of the first quar and after we'll get this quarter going with a second down play from the gun they'll try to to impose their running game he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense and and I think the biggest thing for this young man is we've seen him be so great all throughout the season how do you finish and how do you finish decides if you win that big trophy at the end of the year he's in the Heisman running late in the season I bet you he'll get a lot of touches today that's caught it's gr they make the stop not a whole lot of ground picked up there and they'll have work to do to get the first down nice completion here to this wide receiver and you're going to see this receiver line up in different spots all over the field all game long defense has got to keep their eye on where this guy is because they know he's a big part of this offensive success wide out in motion now give it to the back didn't get much done on that run he'll fight his way out and maybe maybe pick up a yard that's a really good stop by the defense Jesse they need a few more you've given up a bunch of yards on this drive and a bunch of plays but all that matters is keeping them off the scoreboard yeah it's that bend don't break mentality you're seeing right now and this is the point where this defense has just got to lock in line is set on third down they'll run it out of the shotgun and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down keep the foot on the pedal if you're on offense here you got that yardage yeah you didn't get the first down but you've set yourself up now to go for it here and keep this drive alive oh he missed it no good after for the Miss guys the score stays right where it is Tain has it back in the offense coming out to go on the attack last time David it was one two three kick the last drive that three and out sometimes that puts your defense in a bad spot and you got to get a drive together here so you don't wear the defense out I just think David too predictable that last Drive they got to do something here to get this defense on their heels after the three- ydd pickup they come to the line Second and seven Thompson to throw fires to the big F and they'll stop it just short of the first down just inches away from moving the sticks I'll say this man in college football you see a lot of bad tackling you didn't see it right there that was an awesome job first off being there at the point of attack once the tight end made the catch there was no doubt he was going down great job form tackle fires into traffic picked off and he's wrapped up after a solid return on the not all guys have the ability to to break on the football go make a play and catch it you know you play defense for a reason a lot of the wide receivers are the ones that do most of the catching great job by the defense securing the int gets it to the back they'll rip off eight on that play it's second and two guys out of the back field now it's not just run the ball downhill anymore you got to be versatile I got to be able to trust you in the pass game and I got to be able to throw you the football and you can do that right there I know you're going to catch it and I can depend on you after the first down completion it's second and short he's looking to throw makes the catch and he picked up the first down but he will remember the price he paid after that hit and a great job by the QB finding the running back getting the football where he can do some damage after the catch and most importantly get the first [Applause] down down to the 18 yd line it's first and 10 here's the handoff they get him on the ground but not before he rumbles all the way to the five and theame James want to crank the tempo wide receiver shows motion touch pass on the Jet Sweep into the house touchdown [Applause] flames and wouldn't I start for this offense the throw game getting working getting the touchdown pass this quarterback getting a little bit of confidence this passing game getting in a rhythm nice start for this offense lining up to tack one more onto that [Applause] lead and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game we check in with Kevin Connors what's going on Kevin Dynamite match up this week fellas let's show you what's going down Wyoming has opened up a can and the result is what's shaping up to be one of the more lopsided Affairs of the entire day they're up 14 over any big developments in this one we've got you covered with the best studio team in The Bu gentlemen thanks for the update on that one Kevin let us know when it goes final the Tain offense headed back onto the field wasting no time throwing on this drive he makes a catch makes the stop at the 33 but it's a 15yd gain you've seen these Co routes this is a timing route understand the ball's got to come out of my hand when he hits the top of that thr nice job by the QB finding him nice catch just a short pass to the tight end I'll tell you I love the play call on first down here you're just trying to find an easy completion and the shortest throw on the field the quarterback is finding your biggest Target and that's the tight end nice job trying to convert this second and short Thompson wants to throw gets it out past put it right on him sweet play good pick up and they'll move the chains with the first down two set of downs after that completion defense showing plenty of pre- snap movement of their own looking to go up top on first down quarterback [Applause] adapted and this sophomore able to wreak some havoc and get the sack and come on now o line you got to take care of your quarterback he takes care of you he's the one who takes you to meals he's the ones that get you those nil deals everything happens through your quarterback you got to keep him upright that is your number one priority good execution they move the stick and they've got him at the 33 and you just wonder now is that the play that's finally going to wake this offense up they've been sluggish throughout the entire first half but could that be the thing that finally just gives them a little bit of a jolt and leads them to scoring some touchdown Green Wade what a grab and goal for the score yeah and the passing game comes through man and we need more of that in the second half an extra point away from time this football game we trailed a little bit in the first half stayed calm if this passing game can continue to heat up look out in the second half ready to try the point after and it's up and good so that in Drive took only six plays and they finish things off with a scoring toss from the 33 and we're all square as he's set to kick it away [Applause] going for the return nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 Liberty takes over and the Flames offense ready to go to work David they'd love to do what they did last time and put this one in the end zone you ain't lying they and that ball is picked off and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception timing has to be so good we're throwing his own defense over the middle of the field Ball's got to come out specifically on time because these windows close really quickly ball there thrown a little bit late as a result it's an INT and a decent gain there before the defense makes the stop I like this guy as a running back because he can run between the tackles and he can also go outside he can really do it all movement here from the tight end he leaves it with his back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one I'll tell you this defensive end not only can he pass rush but he can play the run as well you see him beat the offensive lineman there trying to block him and get in the back field to make that tackle for loss that was impressive makes his connection he's run out of bounds but they've got it now first and goal he might have expected to see this DB up in his receiver's kitchen instead nice H Zone and they pick up the first man offenses are getting so good reach at seeing the holes in the zone knowing you're in zone knowing where to sit down how to make it an easy pitch and catch for the quarterback and that's what it was on third sh they'll get it down to the8 yd line on that throw and catch and the defense is backed up against the wall just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up he snares it in the end zone touchdown to [Music] [Applause] Lan ling up to add another and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven a very efficient five Place scoring drive and they finish things off with an 8yd TOS for the score [Music] you get that touchdown right before the half build the momentum and the last thing you need to do is mess it up by allowing a big kickoff [Applause] return he's going to bring it out from Deep stopped at the 17 and he's probably second guessing that return first and 10 they'll be able to snap it one more time let's see how aggressive they are on First and 10 he's looking to throw it coming after him and they get to the quarterback and knock him down back at the 16 a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half they'll have just enough time to get one more snap before the half hand off from the shotgun cross at the 30 he got a lane they finally make the stop that's going to make those halftime stats look a little bit nicer as we head to the break we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connor in our halftime update just about set for the second half [Applause] kickoff and it'll come out to the 25 no attempt at a return Twain has it back in the offense coming out to go on the attack they got plenty done through the air in the first half and we'll see if they even need to look for balance as we start the third quarter well and I I think defensively you understand like the running game isn't a big part of the plan I wonder how they adjust and play more coverage to this pass happy offense yeah so you're going to have to be ready if you're a quarterback man you're probably going to see some different coverages you might see a little bit more Blitz in the second half as well so you have to know where your answers are they'll ride the hot hand and they try to run inside and there is nowhere to go man not much wiggle room for the ball carrier there not really sure what they can do to try to create some space I know block that how about the offensive lineman push some guy backwards and make some holes they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 Thompson to throw got it set up on the outside Spinderella they finally get him stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some LS for their running back here comes Tain after picking up the first down the back goes in motion he'll come out throwing on first down dumps it off in the plats and the defense had that one well covered just a short game there they were able to make the completion but he had to pick his way for just a little bit needed a little more help to Spring him for some yardage yeah if you're going to have success when you throw it outside like that you're going to need some more blocking and going for it all and it's caught touchdown Green W that really nice job attacking the middle of the field you see those safeties man I want to split them he splits it right down the middle throws that post right on the numbers catches the ball in the end zone touchdown and the extra point puts him on top 20 1 to7 lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown [Applause] Drive he's going to try his luck from The End Zone I know he thinks he can house every return but sometimes you just have to take a knee as he stopped at the 14 [Music] Liberty takes over the flame sending the offense back onto the field now will'll get a chance to see if they can answer that last score trailing by 14 Jesse Yeah and at this point of the game I feel like offensively you should makes to grab down the left side and that one looked as if it might go all the way but they picked up more than 40 yards before the touchdown saving tackle man if I'm a defense I got to find a way to get some more pressure on the quarterback disrupt their timing and their Rhythm I can't give them these big chunk plays through the air I got to be maybe a little bit more aggressive or do something a little bit different grabbed in the middle it's Lee he's brought down solid pick up but a little bit short of the first down and quarterback dropping back understanding I'm getting Zone coverage all I got to do is be a little bit patient manipulate that defense a little bit my wide receiver runs that drag and I get the first down got the back over the middle M at the 20 he's got space and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play and that's why if you're the offensive coordinator you've got to find as many ways as possible to get this guy going just get him the ball close to the line of scrimmage doesn't need to be a throw deep down the field he's so Dynamic when he has the ball in his hands you saw it right there trying to find his on first down and he was hit just as he was releasing the pass and it falls to the ground incomplete and last week was great for this young man but man again showing you he can do it at a high level just working the whole field using different guys he is absolutely on fire right now looking to throw it again he some heat they'll give him four on that one it's third and six well great job there by the defense because they weren't able to get him sacked right away but you saw the coverage in the back end nowhere for the quarterback to throw the football didn't get the sack obviously you don't get the negative play but you also don't give up a big one you're feeling pretty good about where you are right now in this drive to the air it's stter they're working that left side he couldn't find anywhere to go and now it's fourth down and for the second time tonight they'll Trot out the field goal [Applause] kicker oh he missed it no good guys have missed field goal and nothing changes still a 14-point game well everybody in the stadium thought that was an automatic three not so fast bad Miss by the kicker takes a hand off it's Hughes a knock him down after a gain of three to the 23 at the 23 yd line up second got three on first down at second and seven they'll go to the ground they get him on the ground but not before he gets enough for the first down they'll snap this one from the 32 it's first down looking to move it through the air grabbed behind the line it's Hughes and that is a Nifty bit of navigation to get through that traffic and get the first down and that's why this guy is such a weapon in this offense because you don't have to throw it far down field just get the ball in his hands he catches it close to the line of scrimmage but look what he was able to do after the catch he gets an explosive play for this offense second the end of third we'll get this quarter going with a second down play looking to pass on second down and it's intercepted maybe breathing a little life into this team got some room to run and with the interception he'll take it all the way back touchdown Liberty he'll try to attack on one more and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer and let's check in with Kevin Conor's in the studio Kevin two very different emotions inside the locker rooms of these teams who did battle today Oklahoma State escaped with the Victory and I say escaped look in college football teams will take any win but I think those post fans could have done without this one being so close it's one game you don't want to react too much either way but I think both teams will leave this one with some things to work on moving forward and Kevin Conor's keeping an eye on everything all over the country sounds like they had a good one there keeps the legs moving defense not fudging he's still able to get two to the 29 at this point of the game the offense has the lead the offensive coordinator knows they want to keep running the football so he's going back he's looking at his playlist and he's saying which runs work the best for me in this game what can I lean on right here to make sure we win this one and gang tackling on this dude is a good idea they needed it but he still got the first down first down for this [Music] offense looking for room it's Hughes they finally make the stop at the big run is plenty to move those sticks for the first down it's a point in the game I think as a coaching staff where you really challenge your offensive line to go win the football game right we've got to lead late we're going to run the football and the defense and everybody in the stadium knows that's what's going to happen can we run the ball down their throats and impose our will that's what this offense right now is trying to do really nice pick up on that one as they get it to the 36 it'll be first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs they'll leave it with [Applause] him and a nice run there before the defense finally makes the stop you got to give the coaching staff credit because they really do Focus all season long on situational football with the lead late in the game if we're on offense we're trying to stay in bounds we're trying to bleed the clock and after ripping off a really nice run that guy knew I've got to get down I cannot get pushed out of bounds cannot get tackled out of bounds really really nice job when the offense can run the football and you can feature a guy like this that will get more yards in this block that you can really depend on hangs onto the football like it makes offense super easy especially down the stretch got some room headed to the goal line and he'll finish the run in the end zone touchdown Green w that one puts them in really good shape to get back on the right track and get another W the offense waste no time getting the timeout call about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown so much for the Touchback here he comes he's brought down with the 16 would have been much better off to take the Touchback Liberty takes over and the Flames offense ready to go to work running back goes in motion wants to pass it and he was drilled just as he released the pass it's incomplete well tip your hat to the defense getting that incompletion because that hasn't happened often for this guy completed over 70% of his throws last week he's doing it again in this game can the def defense continue to mix things up see if they can maybe confuse this QB shakes off the defender gets it out to the 20 after a pick up of [Applause] four here on third down will they go back to the running game from the gun they'll give it on the inside and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker down by multiple possessions you can't come up empty on this drive they'll go for it on fourth down quick pass on the Fly motion hey stop him of the marker and they'll turn it over on down it was a massive missed opportunity failing on that fourth down so their trailing there's a little bit less than three minutes to go here their defense has got to be able to get the ball back here quickly for them to have any shot the twain offense headed back onto the field you want to talk about a drive where you impose your will that's what they did running it down for a touchdown David there is nothing more demoralizing than that for a defense to be physically pounded the run is coming you know it's coming and you can't stop it nothing the defense can do that is mono imano up front and your guys getting a push they know you're running it and they still can't stop they'll put the breaks on him at the 21 give him a yard y we reached the two-minute warning and this offense is that much closer to salting away a victory and they don't want to waste this great field position here on Third and long Thompson wants to throw pressure coming that pass not close as he got drilled trying to deliver it and it'll bring up fourth down and the offense got themselves in a tough situation third and long so hard to execute especially when the field starts the shrink but the good news is they got a field goal in their back Pock it's good and that will extend their lead even further they keep pushing that lead out and the kickoff teams getting some [Applause] work from back of the end zone he'll bring it out gets it across the 20 to the 21 and not quite what he would have picked up just taking the touch back Liberty takes over the flame sending the offense back onto the field not a lot of Hope here down three possessions late no and I love this part as a pass rusher because I'm just pinning my ears back getting to the quarterback I know it's a pass every single time Palmer I'm trying to pad my stats I'm sure you're just trying to stay upright well we're definitely just trying to stay alive at this point but you're also trying to build confidence too for your next opponent if you can find some completion late in the game even though it looks like you're going to lose it it's all about building on the good things you do this week so that you're out executing at a higher level than this now on second down after the short completion he's looking to throw fires to the right and he dropped it it looked for all the war like that would be a catch and he just got too excited the offense came into this game knowing that for for them to win they were going to have to make some big plays throwing the football that just has not been the case here in the fourth quarter they've been held to less than 200 passing yards and that's really the story of the game guys and the defense is all over the quarterback and down he goes down in the fourth quarter it's too late for empty possessions they'll go for it on Fourth now throws for the tight end and it's incomplete the long pass on fourth down is to no avail and I get it this that's for Pride's sake this game's over like I know you're you're down and you try to mount drives and sometimes you can try to get young guys in the game at this point but now you're just fighting for pride and just letting them try not to get any more points on the scoreboard and the defense holds firm no pickup at all on that play got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 [Applause] leaves it with the running back and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions winning those individual sixc battles every Play Time After Time After Time After Time and that leads to a victory here and I love when teams go out and play like it's sudden death like if they lose the game their entire season is over this game wasn't for the national
