College Football 25 🏈 : Oklahoma State Cowboys at SMU Mustangs

is welcome to Big D Dallas Texas and the house the Pony Express built Dickerson and James and SMU hoping to restore the glory and get things started in this one we believe we've got a great one in store today and we've got a team that makes it into the top 25 now when you go on the road that's when you crew you belong as we'll see the number 18 team in the country the Oklahoma State Cowboys taking on a team from the ACC the simu Mustangs for EA Sports college football I'm Reese Davis joined here in the booth by David poock and Jesse Palmer and guys let's get this thing started and the Mustangs will kick it off to get us underway on the move from inside is five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 the Cowboys offense will get the first crack at it here here he comes and anytime this guy touches the ball and he will touch it plenty a bolt of electricity just goes through the stadium DAV and they'll feature him they'll give him the ball like you said a lot early often and he's a guy that can make gamebreaking plays the offense is built around his ability to run the football Jess make big plays for this offense yeah he really shoulders the low right in more ways than one the offense goes as this guy goes so what's going to be important in this one they get him going going early and often 6yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four tackled at the 28 it's a pick up of five I know this is an offensive line that has a ton of Pride they want to come out each and every game and really impose their will on the dline they got just enough push there on that run play to pick up the first discard a man so runs like that that can really help your field position as they're up at the 35 good spot after that seven yd pickup on first down it's second and three the give to the left side and he's brought down after a nice game I think it's really important for this offense they get this guy going early in the game and they're doing a nice job of that right now remember he's the kind of running back who gets better as the game goes on that's a really good omen for this offense considering his success now early this is so nice to know you can start off on first down with positive plays positive yards hand the football off set up a good second down solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six going to the ground and the runner is down and so is the flag hold holding penalties the ultimate Drive killer we'll see if it cost this offense here now on second down looking downfield it's Bulman throws for the tight end boy did that one have revolutions on it but it's incomplete and that's where quarterbacks you know they got to be very assertive they got to believe what they see and really pull the trigger the longer they wait and they get off Rhythm or off timing a lot of times it ends up in inmp complet passes and they wanted it all on third down but now dealing with fourth down really nice play by the defender being in a good position for that deep ball down the field not letting the receiver put his big body on him go up over top the only thing that could have been better is that thing tipped to another Defender and it was an interception but great coverage by the defender and they gambled in their own end turn it over on downs and now the other offens is setup so smu's offense taking the field first chance we have to see them today here are our impact players for this game and it goes beyond executing an assignment to make an impact in the game yeah obviously we were talking to both coaching staffs this week and we asked them who needs to step up and play while they immediately pointed to these guys right here they are the key for their respective teams yeah they don't always show up in the Box SC but these are the guys are the leaders these are the guys getting everybody organized and have to play well for their team succeed didn't get much on first down it's second and nine out of the gun the give to the back and a good solid pick up for the defense Cuts him down and as an offense having success on a run play like that early in the game just opens up all the possibilities of your playbook moving forward play action running the ball throwing the ball screens anything is at your disposal at this point on Third and short they keep it on the ground here didn't get much picked up a yard and that will leave them with fourth and two and if the kicker can put one through this will be a successful drive this is going to have to be Unleashed from 54 yds out it is throw as he puts three on the board and with that they break the seal on the scoring it's three D well this team knew coming into tonight's game they had to get momentum early playing at home they want to get the crowd into it so you get a beautiful drive here to start this thing you would have liked to cap it up in the touchdown but listen set yourself up for a field goal did not it through the uprights you got the lead everything right now looking good they were able to get a field goal on the board and now they'll kick it away and there will be no return on this one as the ball bounds into the end zone Oklahoma state has it back and the offens is on the field they were really aggressive going for it in their own end last time and put them in a tough spot David yeah aggressive Reckless they got to find the balance with this offense to really be productive and last possession they went forth they rolled the dice Palmer and it didn't work out for them yeah if you're better on third down moving forward though you can keep yourself out of those situations it's first and 10 from the 38 yd line used the play fake now to throw rifles it down the middle it's complete a huge pick up just when you thought that ball Was Out Of Reach nothing appeared to be out of his reach there yeah he says just throw it up and I'll go get it to track the ball all the way down the field and dive and lay out with that body control that is a special catch it's first down from the 37 yd line he's going to pass fires to the wide out how about getting the foot down on that throw for the big completion and that's why quarterbacks take their offensive lines out for all you can eat wings clean pocket able to step up scan the entire field and pick the open receiver and the Cowboys will have it first and 10 run in the Red Zone it's Gordon going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down wide receiver shows motion looking to throw it's Bowman unleashes to the end zone and he's got it touchdown Cowboys and what did I start for this offense the throw game getting working getting the touchdown pass this quarterback getting a little bit of confidence this passing game getting in a rhythm nice start for this [Music] offense ready to try the point after and the extra point makes it 7 to three they put together a five play 75 5yd drive and they top it off with a 14 yd pass for the touchdown coming out with it it's Smith nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 the SMU offense is headed back onto the field you want to talk about having a weapon to bail out a drive David that's why kickers are so important after that long field and listen important is a relative turn we need to make longer passes and get better gains so we don't have to kick long field goals Palmer again on offense and they've got the weapons to do that David they just got to be able to dial those plays up guys have to be able to make them oneon-one make life easier on this kick who is so important to this ling up to convert third down [Applause] guys that's the end of the quarter and Oklahoma state has the lead here one period in the books and let's take a look at the stats lots of time left and we're ready to get back to it and open the second period here on third down back to throw it's Stone he is Right On Target and the catch was one thing and the Run even better a big pick up on that one the Mustangs in the hurry up well look that wasn't a touchdown but that was a massive play for this offense they needed some momentum they needed to find a rhythm in what better way than converting on third down awesome job by the quarterback getting first prodction brings him down at the 48 it's a gain of 15 and a first down and that is exact why you STI to running the football haven't had a lot of success but boom you pop one right that's what you got to do you got you cannot become onedimensional and just throw the football every down love the offense Stick It and the pressure gets to him down goes the quarterback it's a curious play call offensively to try to throw after that great gain on the ground the snap before if you're winning in the trenches up front keep it going let the Big Fellas go to work I don't like the idea of throwing the ball there that is the last thing you want on first down as an offensive sack now it's second down here's the handoff and he'll find enough Running Room to get it just short of Midfield at the 49 a third and long coming up here looking to throw and he needs a chunk play caught over the middle it's Dixon and he'll take it all the way they couldn't bring him down touchdown SMU one of the reasons this offense is so exciting to watch they've got guys that are dangerous after the catch if this quarterback gets through his progression David HS you in stride these guys will take it to the house man it's your job to do the rest right you hit me in stride where I don't have to stop running I don't have to break down it makes it so easy the connection between quarterback wide receiver you can tell this is a good one and that's why they got six on that play lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point puts him up by a field [Applause] goal about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown on the run from inside his own five and they'll get him on the ground as the offense comes out to start the next Drive good news I guess a lot of room to work with as they start this drive from their own 15 from the gun running back on the Move slips one guy now he's loose just a Savvy veteran productive run from this junior well you saw that broken tackle David but this defense has to do a real good job with gang tackling to stop this guy today you cannot assume one guy is going to get him to the ground everybody's got to swarm to the football all eyes on him and play physically they'll get the first down it's spotted on the 49 well the defense knew coming into this one it was going to be a physical game guys are going to have to be great at the point of attack and get off blocks and make tackles it couldn't stop the offense from picking up that first down on that run play it'll be a first down down from the 49 yd line dropping back it's Bowman lets it Fly and the DB making a huge play knocking it away down field nice job in coverage there offense trying to take a shot downfield the defender able to tip that one up in the air and force it incomplet wonder if they'll throw it again after the incompletion second and 10 from the 49 off the play fate oh he loves to fire down field and they want it at all on that incomplete pass instead they're looking at third down yeah and I like to shot the aggressive play down the field and we like throwing those jump BS up to my receiver cuz usually receiver makes the play and makes the defender look bad nice job by the defender getting a and he intercepts it got some room to run the 30 inside the 10 and they capitalize not only on the pick but on the great returns to improve this field position oh man what a play now you're setting your offense up to a great position but you want to make big plays as defense not only make big plays return it a long way down the field you wanted a touchdown obviously but you set your offense up in great scoring position [Music] after that big play they're trying to pay it off right on the goal line quarterback keeps it he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three can the defense stop them again on second and goal running back searching for a hole and he takes it in from the score touchdown Mustang offense did exactly what it's supposed to do with a start like that one when you're set up with that field position you're thinking touchdowns you're not thinking field goals it's exactly what the offense does takes advantage of great field [Music] position they'll try to add another to their [Music] lead and with the extra point they're now up by a touchdown and a field goal at 10 they got the ball in great field position and Bam Bam two plays and into the end zone about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown he'll start the return inside his five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 Oklahoma State hoping to get the pistols firing on offense they are trailing by 10 here Jesse but this is the type of team that seems comfortable in an offensive shootout you got to hold serve at this point right you got to drive the field put some more points up on the board yeah they just scored you can answer that now and keep this thing close and I think you're used to that as offense like football is so fastpaced now and you score so quickly it's not that big of a deal to get down 10 you keep being you keep fires a bull now it's picked off and he's wrapped up after a solid return on the pick this is obviously not a great start for this quarterback here two interceptions already in this game he's got to do a much better job with his decision [Applause] [Music] making okay so here comes the offense returning to the field they move the tight end all over the run from the shotgun not a whole lot of room there three yards Maybe second and seven and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs back to throw it's Stone coming after it can't find a man and he'll be knocked down at the 40 sometimes you beat your guy and you get sacked so clean and sometimes like on this play the DBS do a great job covering make the QB hold the football and then the rush gets [Applause] home I'm not positive but that first down marker might be in the next County as we reach the two-minute warning they'll need to try to get a stop to keep this thing from getting out of hand this is a third and long looking downfield and he needs a bunch they're trying to get to it just threw that one away to avoid disaster nice job by the defense they're mixing up their look they're third and long in field goal range they go Zone coverage so everybody on the back end has the eye on the quarterback and they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion excellent job on the punt bounces Out of Bounds at the five and they'll have 95 yds to go in front of them they're backed up first and 10 from inside their own five let's see if they can create some space they go to the ground he finds enough room to get it over the 10 yd line and he's down at the 13 coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chance and when you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that got eight on first down now looking at a second and two he's got it downfield for a huge game oh look out there he goes slippery slide find his way and ran away from the crowd into The End Zone touchdown Oklahoma State and I tell you what that passing touchdown man that should spark this whole team like The Comeback is more than on now like they got the touchdown they cut into the lead you you want to get a stop and go into the half get all the juices all the excitement and be like listen the passing game's rolling we got this The Comebacks in full effect lining up for the Pat and with the extra point they close it to a 174 game this offense Prides itself on going after you and they did with that long touchdown pass to finish off a two-play drive and he takes this from from inside the five and they'll bring him down to get the offense started on the next Drive the Mustangs have the ball back and ready to go to work boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah in the last Drive nothing really clicked no rhythm got off the field really really quickly they need to put something together yeah David bad execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath and start playing like a unit on Mr B fast motion from the offense caught in the back field it's Bailey and he's just run out of bounds maybe living to fight another day there it'll be a loss on the play after not getting a thing done on first down it's second along from the 24 fires one high and deep snags it on the right and the tackle is made but not before that completion gets him 30 plus and you just could not allow that to happen defensively giving up a big play like that they're going to need to now play with some sense of urgency if they're not going to give up any points here before the end of the half he'll just keep slinging it and he'll make the grab along the sideline but he's not able to get to the first down Mark that completion leaves us with second and medium back to pass it's St and he was hit just as he released it and it falls to the tur they probably feel good about their field goal chances from the 29 but they'd love to convert this third and short they'll go to the air using the back as a receiver on the screen and the defense able to drag him down but not before they'll recycle that down marker and the defense brought the blitz on third down trying to see if they could rattle the quarterback but how about the Poise he knew where his answer was he didn't Panic or freak out he just went through his progressions picked up the first and we got a fresh set of downs and the Mustangs will snap it on First and 10 he's looking to throw it receiver looks it in it's complete they stop him almost immediately short game there and still a little ground covered pick up the first the Mustangs have pushed it inside the 20 and he really needed to hold on to that one but it was not loose and third down is coming and now this offense will try to overcome that second down incompletion they'll snap it from the gun on third down he got it he'll be stop just short of the end zone but they'll have it first and goal the offense waste no time getting the timeout call and the Mustangs are threatening on first and goal they'll try to power it in into to the end zone he goes touchdown SMU and the defense continues to run the football a second rushing touchdown from the running back the offensive line Haven hes continue to feed this man the [Music] ball lining up to attack one more onto that [Applause] lead and with the extra point they're now up by a touchdown and a field goal at 10 kickoff team is on the field they'll try to drive this one [Applause] deep from inside the 10 here he comes he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Oklahoma state has it back in the offens is on the field now they're backed up here Jesse wonder how aggressive they're willing to be I think it's going to come back down to how much confidence they have in this quarterback and his decision making because you cannot throw an interception at this part of the field with this little timeline and I think that's conversations you've had with a young fell on the sidelines being like what are you comfortable with right here that we can run maybe stay aggressive but make sure I don't make that mistake ready to fire from the pistol looking to throw it's Bowman feeling some heat that pass is incomplete and they might be for it wasn't knock free for a fumble it'll be third down yeah it fell incomplete because you did a great job of getting to the quarterback he's in the pocket yeah he's he's comfortable but you get in there and you get a hit on him now he feels it can't throw the football can't follow through with his arm lotion nice job by the defense and how about that alertness and that swarming D to keep him from getting the first down the Cowboys will call on their punt team number to get makes the catch wants to make a move up field returns like that while you don't settle for the fair catch if you don't have to picks up just a little bit of yards to help out the o just enough time for one final play of the half quarterback flips it ahead quickly to the receiver inside the 45 and he will take it in touchdown Mustang and I love this offense man staying aggressive just because you got the lead you know people can score points in bunches this offense keeps the foot on the accelerator scores again on the final play now this offense has even more of a cushion going into half [Music] time winding up to add another and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead that's going to wrap up the first half here now we join Kevin with the halftime update guys time for everyone inside that stadium in Dallas to take a deep breath and kind of digest what we just saw and there is no better place to start this halftime than by reviewing how this wide out has been a Onan Wrecking Crew the kids's Been Everywhere and I love how he's willing to go across the middle but that he also has the Jets to burn these DBS on the Deep ball if this defense wants to actually come back in this one they better hide his cleats and with that let's send it back to the guys at Gerald J Ford Stadium [Music] [Applause] all teed up and ready to go here in the second half and it'll be a Touchback the ball will come out to the 25 yd line the SMU offense is headed back onto the field they got plenty done through the air in the first half and we'll see if they even need to look for balance as we start the third quarter well and I and I think defensively you understand like the running game isn't a big part of the plan I wonder how they adjust and play more coverage to this pass happy offense yeah so you're going to have to be ready if you're a quarterback then you're probably going to see some different coverages you might see a little bit more Blitz in the second half as well so you have to know where your an is out across the 30 to the 39 after getting 10 on that one they'll snap it from the 39 first and 10 leaves it with the back and was able to get away from one tackle but plenty of help was on the way decent pick up on that play it's really frustrating when you get a guy in his spot he's in the hole he's there to do his job and he can't get the guy on the ground that's your job get him on the ground you know especially a guy that's not a huge back you got to make that tackle you can't make it easy on the offense but now they got a a manageable situation really nice job there by both guys the throw and the catch to work that defense and get the first down looking to move it through the air and the physical play there forces the incompletion on first down second and here comes the offense on second down dropping back it's Stone throws to the wide out got his man to the left and they'll finally bring him down after he rips off a huge play the Mustangs come to the line in the hurry up touchdown SMU and the punishment has been extended man what a day his third touchdown rushing showing you he's got a little bit of everything and ping those stats and all you fantasy football guys you have my man a running back it's a good day [Music] on to attempt the try kicker is on for the extra point the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead that is an efficient drive seven plays 75 yds and the Capper on that drive the 10yd touchdown run he'll bring it back from inside to spot he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Oklahoma State hoping to get the pistols firing on offense they face a pretty tall mountain here Jesse down 24 but if they're going to climb it this is a good time to start sense of urgency has got to be big right here you just get the feeling at this point of the game David they've got to score on this drive obviously their defense needs to get stops but at this point offensively they've got to execute much better they they got to be super aggressive down 24 you're going to need three touchdowns three two-point conversions everything to looking for a huge play reels it in and goes out of bounds on the left side after the huge game what a play to get it inside the Red Zone and they are set up at the 17 and how about the big strike down the field I love when offenses take shots down the field try to make big plays now they're set up in the red zone they just changed the dynamic of this possession in a heartbeat and now it's first and 10 from inside the Red Zone from the shotgun now here's an inside G they'll pick up four second and Six coming going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone looking for a man it's Bowman into the end zone and he's picked off again his night vision hasn't been up to speed his third interception that's why as quarterbacks you cannot Telegraph the pass you cannot stare down your receivers because these Defenders they're watching and that Defender knew exactly where the QB was going with that football and that's why he picked it off Mustangs have the ball back and ready to go to work on that last Drive defense had no idea what was happening wrong or pass it wound up in the end zone Jesse yeah you saw the experience in this offense that last drive too on that touchdown everybody on the same page these guys have reped these plays over and over in practice and in games and it's working D yeah so I got to find a way to disrupted I I got to find a way to maybe be more aggressive maybe Blitz mess up this Rhythm they got [Applause] going he'll keep it himself they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down and that is a big hit and that's a hit that I'm going listen if I'm the OC I'm the head coach I don't want to take many of those I want to run the rpos and I want to run my quarterback but Palmer I got to understand the difference between the critical situations when I want him to take hits and the other times when I want him to take a slot yeah you you got to L to play another day if you're this quarterback right now you know these this defense their eyes are lighting up every time they see you take off and run they know they're going to get those opportunities to try to put you down you've got to slide you've got to try to get out of bounds you got to really try to save yourself CU this team needs you they're going to win the game great execution on the RPO and the receiver had some time to find the soft spot in the zone and make himself open for the quarterback and make it a much easier pass great job they'll throw it on first down gets it to the back they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker now here on second down see if they keep tossing it [Applause] around grabbed over the middle it's Marilyn and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chain and the Mustangs have it with a first and 10 he wants to throw firing to the right complete they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do time the third loses third down coming [Applause] up that's the end of the period and SMU has the lead this has been utter domination through three quars in the stat will back that up just about ready to go in the fourth and we'll see if any drama can be third and six they'll try the run and the defense knew exactly where that first down line was and they stopped him short the Mustangs will try to pick it up on fourth down try to get it on the ground they stop him short of the marker and they'll turn it over on Downs you know there are a lot of people watching this game that are thinking to themselves where's the sports Mission you're blowing this team out why are you going for it on fourth down why not just punt give it back and just leave here with a double that's because this coach wants his guys to keep executing I played for a coach in college that would have done the same thing backups are on the field they get an opportunity to run your play with so let him do it at the end of the day you got to force the opponent to stop that's what they're doing that's the mindset I got to be honest I like it we'll see if they go back to the air after the incompletion it's third and five looking to pass it's Bowman got his man downfield he gets it to the 38 yd line and they'll pick up a fresh set of downs there's a reason third down is called the money down what a great find by the quarterback great job finding this receiver uh at the end of the game you look at third down percentages it tells a huge story and it goes a long way and deciding who wins a football game HS it in and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes the stop this is an offense that has skill they've got speed and because of that this defense they can't L themselves to sleep they've got a big lead here late but they've now given up backto back big plays they got to put the clamps down looking to throw it again they're working that left side and he goes down after making the grab picked up a few but he's still short of the first down Mark operating in the Red Zone here on second down he leaves it with his back and that was a nice second down run it's setting up third and inches and now it's physical time right like they know you might run the football you know you probably want to run the football how can you be more physical sometimes bring some extra body some extra tight ends in and he takes it to the house touchdown cowboy Precision blocking up front created the open Lane and the running back followed it beautifully yeah I it's pretty easy to follow an offensive line that makes those holes and just gives you a caravan all the way to the end zone what an unbelievable job blocking up front two-point conversion attempt is on the [Applause] way trying to bully their way in he's back in the end zone for the two-point conversion it followed the touchdown as he single hand at least trying to keep them in it almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown he'll bring it out it's Smith I imagine he's going to get an earful on the sideline after bringing it out of the end zone and being knocked down at the 11 the SMU offense is headed back onto the field that fourth down gamble didn't pay off on the last drive and it led to giving up a score he's Off to the Races able to work it to the 39 yd line and that'll be a first down and the Mustangs moving quickly to the line defensively you'll take the slow death you'll take three four five yards a pop but you can't give up the massive plays you got to do a better job containing the football making them run the guys and get them on the ground for goodness sakes this guy is fast I know but defensively we got to swarm to the football and get him on the ground he want that clock to run and he's able to bounce off one tackle but still not a whole lot of Running Room third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off back to throw it's stone that pass not close as he got drilled trying to deliver it and it'll bring up fourth down the Mustangs will bring the punt team onto the field this will be the second time they've had to kick it away looking for a block it's Presley pretty solid coverage there and they'll stop him at the 26 Oklahoma Oklahoma state has it back and the offense is on the field line gets set first down they're going to open this drive with a pass and the pass rush is effective and they tackle him at the 19 they'll try to get it going in the right direction this time second and long from the 19 he's looking to throw unloads to the wide out and he got a hand in there knocks it away incomplete well I know that one fell incomplete but what a day this guy has had thrown the football multiple touchdowns and he's done a really nice job with his decision making hasn't thrown any picks which has really helped keep this offense on schedule makes the catch it's Presley and he'll get it up to the 38 it'll be a first down quick timeout called by the offense after the play trying to preserve every minute possible and the Cowboys come to the line with a new set of downs comes out throwing on first down he wants to take the top off and he bats it away it falls incomplete and the defense is playing with a sense of urgency right now obviously they're playing with the lead they know this offense needs to find a way to generate points expecting a shot on in that last play so nice job in coverage right back to the air on second and 10 oh so close to off the tip drill he had it in his hands but it Fall's incomplete it's third down now and they ought to be able to get off one more play before the two-minute warning looking deep and they can't hook up on the big play and that brings up a fourth down no sign of the punt team as they will go for it and try to move those chains going back to the well another deep ball wide open he makes the catch and he'll take it in they couldn't get him on the ground pistols firing touchdown Cowboys so that touchdown was big but just as big this two-point conversion attempt to try to get it to a one-possession game they're going to run it he's into the end zone and we've got a one possession game in the fourth quarter they put together an 81 yd drive and they finished with a 62 ydd pass for the score here he comes from inside his own F good job by the coverage unit to put a stop to that return the Mustangs have the ball back and ready to go to work guys you want to be productive here and not go into a shell but you've got to take care of the ball yeah and I think you say productive re productive at this point in the game is running the clock and getting first down so Jesse I can expect this defense to be aggressive way up near the line of scrimmage bringing a bunch of bodies trying to stop the run and that's why it puts a lot of pressure on an offense David because you know if you do try to throw the football it's probably man coverage probably getting blitzed it's going to be into a small window it is not easy to execute in this situation of the game defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense power football with the Run picks up just a few before he's brought down not really willing to take a risk there on Third and long and the Mustangs will punt it away on fourth down surprisingly makes a fair catch just outside the 40 yd line Oklahoma State hoping to get the pistols firing on offense there's plenty of time to work with here but they have to be highly efficient in their attack Jesse so going to take a shot and it falls incomplete but that could have been disastrous a Defender was right there no time to waste here they've got to get set and pick up chunk yardage looking for a man it's Bowman excellent coverage and good use of the hands to knock it away well they thrown two straight incompletions and they they just need to play pitch and catch on this next play they're down a possession and you don't have to necessarily get the first down oh he's going to try to get it all here and trying to put points on the board on third down now they're staring at fourth down no signs of any kind of kicker as they'll leave the offense out there to try to move those chains looking down the middle and it's his fourth interception of the game he'll try to take it back he's at the 30 the 10 touchdown must a great return for the touchdown any return for a touchdown is a great one to a defense yeah how about that man fourth down trying to go make a play get this offense going get it sparked get some points on the board and that couldn't have gone any worse they throw the pick not only that they return it all the way back for six that offense just shot themselves right in the foot they'll try to attack one more on their score and the extra point splits the upright in the lead balloons to 15 they're about to kick it away and the defense probably can't wait to get back out there after the pick six he wisely lets that one bounce through the back of the end zone and they'll take over at the 25 Oklahoma state has it back and the offense is on the field the big thing now don't get rattled by that last pick six David N it was a big mistake uh obviously the defense took advantage of it but you got to put it behind you Jesse I'm sure you know a thing or two about throwing a pick six and and had a rebound I believe I've only thrown one in my life but yes I do because of that singular instance I'll say this you can't let that play Beat you twice you got to go out not try to get it all back here in one play Just execute the offense not sure exactly what went haywire there but the timing was just off and that's your job as a defense right you got to find he's going for a big play downfield and here's the fifth interception by this quarterback not only made the pick but he also made up some ground and took it back to the 38 nice job by this defense that might be the exclamation for fourth quarter I got to lead you bring on the nickel defense you know the pass in the football for plays just like that to make the int and almost put this one [Music] away the SMU offense is headed back onto the field final minute this game's on Ice they can take a knee and run out the clock this offense has to feel great with how they're able to go out execute and perform big plays all game long I think it's sending statement too to Future defense is down the road on the schedule they're going to be tough to contend with yeah I mean they got Firepower putting up so many points this thing is easily over now they can just chillax go back to the locker room know they're going to get the victory this one was a lot like a tennis match back and fourth up and down and they just couldn't quite score enough and get the key stop to get the win and defenses have changed right it's not about limiting to low points anymore but you got to find ways to create turnovers and get that ball back to your offense so they can do their d the defense just needed to create a few more opportunities I think it just came down to individual effort on the defensive side of the football for this team
