College Football 25 Oklahoma State Vs. Tulsa Hurricanes

Tulsa Oklahoma home to the Tulsa Golden hurricane in Skelly field where the fans have gathered and they are ready to see those hurricanes gather some strength little gets the blood boiling quite like a rivalry game barbs shots trash talk things that go on throughout the week will now all be settled on this field as we'll see the number 14 team in the country the Oklahoma State Cowboys taking on a team from the AAC the tuls [Applause] first down here for the offense power football with the Run crosses the 30 to the 3186 yd gain offenses when they run these rpos they just want to be comfortable the quarterback wants to make the read very easy very clean it's your job as a defense kind of create some confusion speed up that process any way you can grabbed in the back field it's Gordon the defense wouldn't let him loose and even though it's in completion they lost yardage they're going to keep this drive going they'll have to make a play on Third and long from the 26 from the gun wants to pass oh he's going to try to get it all here fires and picked off and they'll drag him down after a good return on the interception and Oklahoma State hoping to get the pistols firing on offense going to run it it's Gordon at the 35 he's loose he's R out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down big Chun play to start this drive now they'll really try to take it to this defense might as well give it to him again we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up I know you want to prepare for every game the same way but there's just something different about rivalry games Jesse it's because ree I think players are aware that games like this Define your legacy as a player your record in rivalry games is something that people are going to talk about for years and years down the road you have got to show up and play your best football in games like this on Third and short they'll try to throw for it oh they really could have used that catch their physical pass def offense getting set for first down Ed the play fake now to throw Let it Fly makes the grab good job running that rout to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch they're backed up just a little first and 10 from their own 19 just gets it to the 28 pick up of one they're strong and they're strong defensive tackles they're strong strong there's such big jokers in the Middle where they just lock out those offensive linemen and running backs listen they don't have much of a chance when you got that 300 plus pound guy grabbing you around the shoulder pad you tend to go to the ground pretty quick and they'll spot it at the 45 that's good enough for a first down and the Cowboys come to the line with a fresh set of downs give to the back showed off just about every move in the book except the forward move stopped for a short gain halfway there on first down it's second and five the give to the running back from the shotgun really good surge for this offense they move the chains and he's got it at the 34 as they get set to snap it just about to reach the end of the [Applause] quarter pulls it and fires to the left didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a that's the end of the period and Tulsa has the lead one period in the books and let's take a look at the steps [Music] they are lined up and ready to go and get things started here in the second went to the running game on first down now here they come again on second down just keeps firing receiver looks it in it's complete and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup finally this offense starting to show a little juice they've got a first and 10 the handoff as they run the counter play here he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple hit a little speed bump on this drive it's second and 12 the give to the tail back defense there to stop him after a pick up of two down to the 15 and the running back didn't get much there nice job by the defense you can tell they're focused in on this running back on this run game being physical getting knockbacks and limiting his carries on third down he drops to throw and makes the grab in the Z touchdown Oklahoma State Oklahoma and it's so underrated the the relationship between a QB and a wide receiver the timing the ability to know where he's going to be and be accurate with the football that's what leads to nice touchdowns Jesse well the chemistry between these two guys has to be great when you're throwing into the end zone because coverage is going to be tight the throw might not be perfect but this is something these two guys have been repping and practice over and over and over and it's paying dividends now on game day Oklahoma state has it back and the offense is on the field David they'd love to do what they did last time and put this one in the end zone you ain't lying they did a great job the offense was clicking everything went well Palmer they executed and got the touchdown and they really were in a nice Rhythm as well and I'd love to see that here on the next drive to just keep doing what you're doing everything seems to be working and you seem to have this defense on their game he locked up and held on to bring him down stopping the run is very high on every defensive coordinator's list making the team onedimensional nice job stuffing the run on that play right there wide receiver shows motion to the ground to try to pick up the first they'll move the chains good execution on third down they've got it at the 41 they move the chains on the ground now another first down going to run it it's green and he'll pick up one it brings up second and nine Run game is good balance is good now listen if the Run game isn't good then you got to pass the football a little bit more but sometimes you got to keep him honest take him chunk by chunk that's caught it's Presley he's brought down solid pick up but a little bit short of the first down let's see what they do on third down they'll try to power their way ahead working their way closer and closer a third down conversion and they've got it at the 26 first down here with time for maybe one more play until the two-minute warning it's the two-minute warning and we'll see if the offense can tack a little something extra on their lead before the break he wants to throw got him in and just a short safe pass play they pick up a few the Cowboys want to crank the [Applause] tempo on second down he'll let it fly he got it they will score pistol firing touchdown Cowboy defense has to be better on the back end they knew this offense was going to come out and they were going to challenge them they were going to try to push the ball vertically down the field they've now given up two touchdown passes in this game they've got to shore up their play in the back half Oklahoma State hoping to get the pistols firing on offense Jesse looking to take it down the field for backto back touchdowns I think it's really important for them moving forward too to have a lot of balance right you want to be able to keep this defense guessing yeah and you got me searching for answers after that last drive you stack another drive on top of this their defense's heads are going to be spinning all over the place looking to throw on second down unloads to the wide out oh goes right through his hands and he will think about that one for a while it'll be third down just got to finish the play if you're the wide receiver you got to look that one in and complete it it's a bad drop looking for a gap it's green he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple we got a timeout here late in the first half and they'll try to get more points on the board before the break first down for this offense quarterback will audible trying to start the drive with a pass nice defensive play to get a hand in there and knock it away they'll spread the defense out going five wide on second and 10 they'll throw again after the incompletion and that pass will be Jarred loose on second down that brings up third down they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it he holds it in and nobody's close and he ran away from the crowd and he'll take it in touchdown Cowboys no step back at week three they have been sharp as they extend the lead that touchdown gives his team a pretty sign significant lead at this point and that's what you want you want to start fast you want everything to come out start clicking make some plays it doesn't always work that way but when you do man the energy the crowd everybody's into it now the other team better resp they'll have just enough time to get one more snap before the half comes out throwing on first down pass is incomplete and half comes to a close on that play we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connor in our halftime update pH is what an environment there today all the animosity and Flatout hatred that comes with a good oldfashioned rivalry game on display in that first half and I get it a lot of coaches will say the difference between winning and losing comes down to stopping big plays and getting big plays but if you ask me it's more about how good you are on third down and how efficient you are in keeping drives alive those two stats can help you break the will of even the best defenses and help Oklahoma state has it back and the offense is on the [Applause] field leaves it with the back nice move to keep moving I know to throw the football but if you can pound it away and get these kind of gains they will just add up wear the defense down get first downs and ultimately get some points he puts him in business across the 50 into the 46 yd line it'll be first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs out of the shotgun they go to the ground and that looked like an easy decision for the quarterback hand it off give him the ball let him get five plus yards nice decision nice job by the running back getting the yardage runs through the tackle they'll stop him at the 31 let's mark it off in five yards and that will be a first down and the Cowboys are marching down the field single back formation and they give it to it this offensive line better figure out a plan for this D tackle he is tough to block with one guy you might want to start double teaming him he's going to be a problem moving forward you saw all of his ability on that last play incomplete thank to the great defensive pressure there that sort of threw them out of rhythm coming to the line of scrimmage at the 30 it would be a long field goal but they'd love to pick up a few here on Third and long he's got it excellent job working through the air there finding a hole in that defense and picking up a first down the Cowboys come to the line with a new set of downs they move the tight end all over he'll PLL it on the read Nowhere to Run on that one he loses four on the carry put themselves in a bit of a bind with that last one is second and 14 he's looking to throw now he's going to break the pocket they make the stop but not before he takes a chunk out of what they need to move the sticks they'd love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and goal shotgun snap on third down got it touchdown Oklahoma State and the route is on Oklahoma State know quarterbacks and receivers they develop confidence and chemistry as the game goes on these two right now are definitely on the same page [Music] Oklahoma State hoping to get the pistols firing on offense what a good mix of plays keeping that defense off balance last time David and Reese they don't know if it's run or if it's pass they got him right where they wanted this defense doesn't know how to react from getting punched in the mouth on that last drive so in this next Drive David I think you keep running the football because that sets up the play action it sets up the RPO game and then you keep this defense guess and the sack all the way back at the five backed up third and 10 from inside their own five like a doctor first Do no harm from the gun wants to pass and that third down pass had some serious juice but they couldn't hook up the offense gets pretty lucky there third a first down for the offense using his legs it's green small game I know but again the defense knows he's going to run the football he's willing to run the football not just drop back and pass make him on to the Run game you got to do a lot of this running back searching for a hole and a good solid pick up before the defense Cuts him down really nice awareness by that guy too because it looked as though his momentum might carry him out of bounds might stop the clock but he knew to get down he was fighting to make sure he fell down in the field to play and as a result the clock keeps ticking quick release on the RPO third down conversions are huge and they've got one and they at the 35 and now on first down after converting with the Run the give and tick tick tick tick tick tick tick he had to fight for a couple down to the 33 picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down the run from the shotgun trying to pound their way forward he picks up a couple to the 31 now on third down for this offense from the gun wants to pass working the middle really nice job there by both guys to throw and the catch to work that defense and get the first down and the Cowboys are threatening in the Red Zone shakes off the defender they'll give him four yds on the carry it's down at the 8 yd line going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first [Applause] down oh how did you make that move touchdown Cowboys and the Stomping has commenced they tack a little more onto this lead and they're on their way to a three and0 start now they've got a little breathing room they are in firm control with this game guys but you never want to let up in a rivalry game because it only takes one play we know how much of a factor momentum can be in these Oklahoma state has it back and the offense is on the field what a feeling this has to be David in complete control and headed toward Victory formation yeah no stress under a couple minutes left in the ball game well in hand these are the ones Jesse you like to just run the clock take a knee whatever you want no doubt they're going to love watching this game film too there's just so many positives to take away from this and this is the kind of performance today that is really going to help this offense is confidence third and 10 still backed up inside their own 20 this drive hasn't really gotten started from the gun wants to pass and a missed opportunity on third down as the defense knocks it free and fourth down is coming up the offense lining up for a first down play wide receiver now comes in motion they'll try the run you know the one thing you can say about this defense they pursue the football the first guy might miss the second guy might miss but there's going to be more and more hats flying to the ball carry you saw it on that play getting the tackle for loss fires to the wide out and that's going to be incomplete a lot of contact on the play but no Flags it'll be third down they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one leaves it with the running back and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down and I'm a fan of this man run the no matter how much college football changes realignment all of that kind of stuff rivalries are consistent and winning rivalry games well that's just the best because they hate each other so much so you take the field against your rival you're able to put forth a performance like that that is worth its weight and goal David unbelievable effort here by the winning team and bragging rights now for a while bragging rights for a while it's it's a fun thing to be able to accomplish now we also got to take in the next couple games cuz this is always there's a let down that naturally happens after these big rivalry wins we feel like our chest
