9 Fantasy Football Draft Risers | NFL Preseason Standouts (2024)

Introduction welcome in everybody it's the fantasy pros Dynasty fantasy football podcast I'm your host for the day Scott Bogman Ryan Wormley is off I believe saving the world I I was told that he was taken away on a secret mission and uh he had to be real Hush Hush about it but he'll be back next week for sure to join us today to talk about some preseason standouts uh you've heard him on of course the three andout podcast for the volume John middleof John thank you so much for joining us today and are you ready for the football season we are here it's on the doorstep preseason is almost done it's the scrubs playing this week and we are ready to rock and roll you know it's funny I was uh I was texting with a buddy in the NFL and I said you know the preseason that especially that third week obviously they they cut one of the weeks used to be real you would get starters vers starters for a half and some of those coaches like the vibe of you go into halftime and then you get the one series after the half and there was like a buildup there was a sequence you know the first game got a series if it went really bad maybe you got two second game you definitely got a quarter and this wasn't just Andy Reid running row right this was every team for the most part and now every other day you see a headline like this guy's the Atlanta Falcons put their backup quarterback on Ice which I I looked for my podcast because I kind of went on a little ran about it Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson I use those two examples two guys drafted behind Alex and Flo they were not supposed to start right I mean Mahomes red shirted and Lamar was supposed to but they were so terrible those guys had I think they average when you combine the two of them like 60 pass attempts Lamar played in five games because they had the Hall of Fame game and Mahomes played in all four and they played a lot so now you get these backup quarterbacks you know if you're a good enough player maybe it was the JJ McCarthy injury that that spooked him my theory was they just wanted a no quarterback controversy you know because to me in the first PR I don't know he just looks like Michael penck uh but it's I'm I'm glad it's over I guess it's a long wind way to say I am too uh it is uh we're getting down the end of it and you know it's also like betting in the preseason is insane now because you just have no idea what these teams are going to do uh because some teams are playing their players most teams aren't at all AR the unders crushing right now in those crushing right now yeah yeah so Fitzy I mean preseason we have some standouts here for sure we have some risers and fallers right but uh what are you what are you most excited about to just to be done with the preseason because now I get itchy with that two week weight instead of a onewe weight now yeah I'm pretty excited to have it over with and as John mentioned there used to be like a predictable Rhythm to the preseason where we would get the the week three dress rehearsal and then everyone shuts it down in week four um yeah and now it's been more unpredictable like last week uh you know my Packers didn't play anyone at all and Denver did kind of do a dress rehearsal type thing so Denver was favored by seven and it actually wound up being a good betat I think they won like 27- two so um yeah I mean I'm just glad we haven't other than JJ McCarthy I guess uh haven't had any real major injuries at least at least for Fantasy so better knock on wood Fitzy it happens now I know but hopefully everyone treats uh preseason week three the way they used to treat NFL preseason week four and just uh pull the plug basically by way great to have John with us uh clearly an upgrade over worm so of course yeah but uh look we did have we woke up to uh or you know I'm a late sleeper so I woke up too uh Johan doson being traded in the division gentlemen which is somewhat insulting I thought what they got back was pretty good for him a third and two sevens but John I'll start with you on Johan doson in this trade um very weird you know uh we heard Quinn and um the coaches kind of talking negatively about doson but he was playing in the slot a lot which is a good spot in Kingsbury's offense obviously now he's gone you move from maybe second in a high passing offense in the pecking order now down to probably fourth in a high running volume team in Philly so what are your thoughts on this move for Dawson do you think this is good for him or is it this just way worse for him well before I I started talking for a living I I worked for hoe Roseman and one thing hoe is a sucker for is value and highly touted Players Once Upon a Time getting for quote unquote relatively cheap and this a Penn State guy so in their backyard you know I think Washington is a little in the camp of one they just this is not their guy right first and foremost so that it happens a lot regardless what is said in press conference but you know they also look at it like this is not a make or break here so trading within the division I would imag he's a free agent I I would guess after this year right so it's not like he's I could be wrong there I haven't looked at his contractual status but I think hoe just anytime he sees value of a guy with specific skills that if they can move this guy around to it helps their depth I mean AJ has been hurt in the past so I mean they're paying those two guys a lot of money but I I I just think that he just he's Billy Bean I mean it's it's about value and it's about talent and they already have a lot on offense right with those two receivers the tight end saquon the quarterback I mean they've drafted offensive lineman a ton in the last five years so even losing Kelce they have guys to Plug and Play yeah I mean they their roster on paper especially offensively now with Kell Moore it's pretty intriguing you know to say the least right yeah yeah I mean this is uh this is an enormous move Fitzy and you know I I it was it was very weird because like like I said doson was getting that good spot even in the first couple preseason games here but all the talk was fairly negative and now he's off to Philly and a bit buried and it also hurts you know a guy that we could have talked about on the sand outs today is Johnny Wilson uh out of FSU who was having an enormous camp and uh some really moving up the depth chart for Philly I don't know now that you trade for Dotson it kind of seems like he's going to be the three right it seemed like they were willing to go in with Johnny as their number three receiver but apparently not and um you know like Johnny's intriguing for sure but I think maybe they wanted him as more this the straight back up to AJ um sure so uh yeah they get their number three receiver it does seem like good value you're getting a recent first round pick for what a fourth and 27ths um but I I feel like there is maybe some element with the commanders they don't make this move with a division rival unless they're pretty convinced that they're not going to regret it over the next couple of years and that like Dodson can't hurt them if not thinking they're giving the Eagles a poison pill but I don't know about that or maybe they just mismanaged him so we'll we'll find out I mean I I guess I have to drop Dotson a little bit um I don't know that I'm going to really does make me more interested in Luke mcaffrey I think this clears out a way for him to get snaps there maybe some lowlevel Dynasty value for like dami brown and Alam zakos um as they you know move up a notch in the Target pecking order in Washington and um I don't know what I wanted to ask you guys do you think this maybe um foretells a Brandon iuk trade to Washington are are they Paving the way for this because I mean we have seen uh Brandon iuk Express his fondness for for Jaden Daniels and the desire to play with him um do we all of a sudden see an iuk trade what do you think John I mean I I feel like we're trying to force this iuk trade to happen at some point and I don't know if we're ever going to get it it's one of the most exhausting I appreciate CD lamb you know call me when the contract meets my demands I'm not showing up or even Jamar Chase I'll stand here we all know I'm not getting traded but this is the number let's figure this out I I feel bad for John Lynch a little bit he's had to have about 700 meetings with Brandon auk which this it's not exactly Jerry Rice or Moss here but I like Brandon iuk really good player I think the problem for this trade is and you saw did you guys talk about the potential trade that the Steelers had was like a second round pick and I think a late round pick that do nothing for the 49ers this year who are in Super Bowl or bus and you speak of the eagles they don't want to depend on a young third Wide Receiver right it's not because they don't like them like they're trying to get back to the Super Bowl this year right right that that's a big picture they might like them in two years to depend on but they can't risk it because you never know with rookies I don't see how to me if Washington put their first round pick on the table I mean there's a chance they win five six games but I don't think the Niners it'd be hard to turn down that's probably not going to happen so if they offer their second round pick which again in theory could also be pretty high right in somewhere between 35 and early 40s that just helps the Niners zilch during it's great in March and April it does nothing for him this year so I I just don't see the fit the the best fit by a mile was okay if we are going to trade you you'll give us your second round pick and a one-year rental of Amari Cooper deal done the ners I think were ready to do that deal in a heartbeat two weeks ago and he got cold feet because he didn't want to go play there but so you can't demand a trade and then like well the 07 Patriots aren't out there for you and I just right I I just don't think it's a fit from uh I think the Niners would do a trade if they love what they're getting back I just don't see what Washington give them back if the first round picks not on the table that would make any sense for them week one against the Jets I think exhausting is the perfect word for this because I'm a Steelers fan and uh my my co-hosted in this league and also here at fantasy pros Chris Welsh huge Niners fan he's been saying from the jump exactly what you just said the Niners are not doing this deal unless they get something back that helps them this year because the windows open and you know you have limited options and Brandon iuk has shut down a bunch of those limited options so dots probably would have been the receiver they wanted back I don't think the 49ers are taking Alam zakus and a pick to to get that deal done take Terry McClaren maybe I do think if they would have pulled off the Cleveland trade I think Amari in San Francisco would have been pretty interesting yes I think so too I think he being underrated right now so I think the ners were like uh second round pick at Amari even if you only get him for the year and it kind of clears up their books a little they're like deal done right yes absolutely uh well he Let's uh let's talk about some of the standouts from the preseason we're going to go position by position here we picked a couple players and we'll start at running back Jordan Mason Jordan Mason has been a big mover in Camp Eli Mitchell just returned to practice but Mason might have already beat him out uh for that backup of Christian mcaffrey which is a huge spot for Fantasy uh as even as a handcuff right now Jordan Mason being uh drafted or is he are among running backs is 72 in Half Point PPR he's just uh behind Foreman Videl Jamal Williams just ahead of Sanders Tracy and Surman javante Williams also you know this is a guy that was pretty much called Dead early in the preseason everyone was saying looks like he's GNA get cut julil mcclaflin is the guy they brought in audre cast they brought Blake Watson we're going to see a different running back room ah javante has proven again to be healthy after the ACL injury that uh really stunted him last season in his recovery right now his ECR is 27 he's going just behind um DeAndre Swift zamir white Tony Pard and just ahead of Brian Robinson Devin single Terry Jaylen Warren and another guy to bring up a little bit lower brayan Allen is zcr is 56 he seems right now to be the the straight backup to Bree Hall but we're getting a little word that Isaiah Davis is pushing him um He Still Remains second on the dep chart bran Allen Isaiah Davis making a little bit of a name for himself and he is at 56 the guys just ahead of him Jaylen Wright Kendry Miller ran Johnson just below Bucky Irving Eli Mitchell and Damen Pierce so John when you look at these running backs Mason WIlliams and brillan Allen what uh who stands out the most here for you well safe to say Christian and Bree Hall are two guys going really high basically everywhere I I think knowing the 49ers well they just paid Christian mcaffry this off season and they want him obviously to play at a high level for a long time and I think Kyle's overuse of him last year and really since they've got him it just feels some games you're like I I don't know if he's gonna make it and some of these times it's they're up 20 points and Kyle has talked about it over and over this preseason they drafted another running back they've always loved Mitchell the well the dude they drafted from Louisville's injured been MIA Mitchell he's really good player he's hurt every other week his entire career and it's sad but it's just he cannot stay healthy Jordan Mason who a lot of Niner fans were like play him more said this offseason he bought a jugs machine because I think one knock on him he's pretty hard runner for a little guy was like did they trust him catching the ball and that's obviously something they feel mcaffry can do at all he spent like three or $4,000 on a jugs machine and spent all summer long with his dad shooting jugs at him and he to me he's as good as Mitchell he just doesn't get the playing time and now he's just passed him based on availability I I do think Kyle is GNA try to make a conscious effort to just balance out Christian's usage a little bit because for them to win a Super Bowl in these next couple years he has to be like Marshall faul or LT for them and he can be but he's he's already hurt right now it was even Christian said a couple weeks ago I could have played if we had a game so the Niners slow play it with their star players I think backup running back's going to get some use and they're going to be in some gam especially early on in the season I think they're just way better than that do they have to give Christian mcaffry 23 carries in this game or can they give him 15 and give six seven more to Jordan Mason where I think in the previous it was like two you know and I and I do think if he can prove to catch the ball it's one thing to do in training camp and in in preseason it's another thing like if you drop a past Monday Night Football it could spook Kyle so if early on he catches a couple ball I think he gain some momentum and they could really utilize him throughout the season I've always liked Jordan Mason as a player uh and these other guys are just falling off a cliff so like I the thing with the Jets it's so hard to predict their offense you know I know Kyle and I know what he wants to do and I I do believe him because of the importance of Christian like I got to be a little more careful with him and to me that jolts in Jordan Mason to just I think last year had three touchdowns can that number be five or six you know can he just get a couple more carries in spots where he just wouldn't have because of their new found just uh willingness to give Christian a few blows and part of it is Christian never wants to come out of the game and Kyle never wants them to come out of the game so it's a perfect match right but they know that it's not a sustainable thing at as you get older even in you know 2024 is different than running the ball in 1987 but you still take so many collisions and I I think they got to be and I think they will be more conscious of that moving forward and it's you know it's almost coacheak because every single year I think a lot of coaches have talked about taking Christian mcaffry out the field Fitzy you know it's we we got to get him out of there we got to give him a breather but then when you get down to it you know and the game's on the line or it's close or whatever you're running a two-minute drill you want him out there so he goes out there do you think this year is going to be different uh and Jordan Mason in the backup whoever it is maybe it's not Jordan M maybe it still is Eli Mitchell whatever but do you think that touches are going to be pulled away from mcaffrey and given to somebody else guy had 400 touches uh you know including the playoffs last season I'm sure he's going to still get a lot of touches but probably not uh as many as last year and I don't think there will be any more instances like I I can't remember what game it was but it was kind of late in the game the 49ers had a comfortable lead and like Shanah Steelers might have been week one I remember against Pittsburgh because I'm a Steelers where they give mcaffrey like three cracks at the end zone like late really late in the game when they had a healthy lead and like I thought it was closer to the end of the year because I'm like what are you doing fit Fitz it happened all it happened all season they were up big in a lot of games yeah and not even goal line stuff just in the game in the fourth quarter with five minutes left up 20 points like many times were you're scratching your head going should TMC still be out here I don't know yeah so I'm I'm going to be really anxious to see in the coming days like now that um now that Mitchell's back from whatever his latest malady was cuz I've always thought Mitchell was pretty good when healthy but obviously he's had a really hard time staying healthy so and it sounds like you know Mason has had this great Camp as John has been talking about so I want to see how they like I'm I'm still not sure how to rank those two guys because I just don't know how to read that depth chart right now anybody else you want to uh expand on here Fitzy uh javante for sure like I'm I'm getting Javonte Williams excited about him there was that weird rumor earlier in the year that like he might not make the roster but now he's pretty clearly their number one and um what I'm excited about is the the potential pass catching Bonanza because running back uh usage in the passing game has always been such a staple of the Shawn Payton offense and last year we saw the Broncos lead the league in running back targets with 153 and I think there was only one other team with more than 130 that's like nine running back targets a game and and um just this past week against the Packers in their preseason game gavon had this nice little catch and run off of B Knick's dump off for 15 yards where he just punched the accelerator and he looked good and they they said he's lost a little bit of weight and it seemed to show there like he looked pretty Lively when he uh took that pass and turned up field he also had a 14 yard touchdown catch brought back because Bo Knicks had stepped over the line of scrimmage when he threw the pass so that that kind of usage encouraged me B knck was a a screen and checkdown Guy throughout his college career so um I think this is just going to be a pass catching banan and javante looked really good in that game and you know it sounds like any any rumors about him not making this team were just completely un too early yeah yeah too early like I kind of I kind of understand them based on what he looked like last season but once you got out there and you're seeing you know back to Almost 100% javante he is an absolute stud I'll just expand on the brillan Allen Point a little bit uh I I was low Braelon Allen on brayan Allen coming in you know e muffs Fitzy uh I I know uh he's one of your favorites from Wisconsin of course but I was low on brayan Allen coming in because I just didn't know if he had the speed to hack it in the NFL we knew he had the body control the size super young 19 years old uh but everything in Camp made him a standout I will say I liked Isaiah Davis better but the invest was much cheaper you never really know what role they have pegged for a guy like that but he has pushed aananda seemingly off of this roster and he is at least a third and might be pushing brillan Allen so he's a guy to you know maybe put on your watch list if you're in a deeper Dynasty maybe throw a flyer on him if you have an extra roster spot something like that because I think there is opportunity and Fitz you mentioned this during the Fest and I think people forget it you know brayan Allen tore his knee two years ago so he looked or excuse me uh Bree Hall tore his KNE years ago he looked amazing last year we don't you know there's no ill effects that we see from it but you know this is guy who has been hurt in the past so it's not out of the realm of possibility and is also it's not out of the realm of possibility for any running back uh before we go to the wide receivers I want to tell you guys about the draft assistant remember when you first started playing fantasy football it was fun right now your draft can feel like you're studying for a math test this year reclaim that same enjoyment with draft assistant draft assistant simplifies the entire draft process making it the easy way to dominate your fantasy draft it connects to your draft keeps track of everything that's going on and tells you who the best pick is when you're on the clock all you have to do is focus on the excitement of making the perfect pick so this season work less and win more with draft assistant at fantasypros.com draft wizard um or on the fantasy football draft Wizard app check it out today let's go to some wide receivers gentlemen the guys that we pointed out here John are Cooper Cup who Cooper Kupp maybe got forgotten about a little bit because he got hurt early in the preseason last year never really seemed like he was all the way back to himself puka nakua has a breakout so everyone is kind of was kind of leaning that way now that puka is down for a little bit people are kind of starting to scratch their head and go maybe Cooper cup is pretty good two years ago is best wide receiver in the NFL um he's still going behind niik Collins Brandon iuk Jaylen wad he's just ahead of metf Moore and Pitman um it looks like he could be all the way back and Xavier worthy has really boosted himself here as well making the most out of this Maris Brown injury uh we don't know what the deal with with rasheid rice is right now it seems like maybe his suspension won't come this season the NFL's weird with that stuff so so I'm not really sure but what are your thoughts on those two guys in particular Cooper cup and Xavier worthy John well I'm a big believer when a quarterback loves another wide receiver like personally like they have a very close relationship you saw it with ever with Tom and Edelman and early Tom with Wes you seen it over the years with pton and some of his guys like these guys are really really close right and last year he was injured he didn't look the same and then they just started riding puka and the season was kind of weird right they started slow but I I I think Cooper cup won as you get older and you start making a lot of money you start looking around like you've seen enough guys get cut you're kind of fighting for your career and at one point in time a couple years ago we were talking about this guy as one of the better wide receivers in the league and a lot of hype on this team they clearly can run the ball a little bit better uh you know defensively they were good down the stretch now they got a new DC they got some young players I still I I think they're going to be good and if they're going to be good I would imagine Cooper cup if he's healthy is going to have a large quantity of targets right it's like you talk about Xavier worthy in theory it makes a lot of sense and you watch him in the preseason game but you never know rookie wide receiver as the season goes on like is it a little overwhelming can he handle like I know Cooper cup mentally and if he's physically right can handle everything you know there are no qu it's just is he on the field if he's on the field and he's healthy which he didn't look like himself last year right and part of that's why they kept going to puka and I just think when you get a rapport on and off the field uh with high-end players that's what Stafford and Cooper cup are I I'm with you I think they get a big bounceback season from those guys again assuming health and both those guys are health risks right both of them I mean Stafford's already been injured in the preseason yeah yeah and yeah I think didn't he start out with like a wrist or a hand of some some hand or wrist something last year too so there wasn't a lot of Rhythm built up before so Fitzy when you look at these guys cup and worthy what stands out to you the most from the preseason here let let me ask you guys a quick question about the the ram situation if Cooper cup stays pretty healthy all year like let's say he and puka both play all 17 games who do you think leads this team in receptions still Cooper for me I think the offense runs through him first yeah so I'm I'm glad I didn't trade him on the one Dynasty team where I have Cooper cup because at one point last year I was so uh frustrated with the injury situation and thinking maybe it was the and there were these um rumors like not so uh not so behind the scenes rumors that he maybe had channelopathy which is that um condition that plagued like Roco baldelli and forced him in early retirement where you're just sort of chronically injury prone and um you know I was I was considering just trading cup to someone for like a third round pick glad I didn't do that but uh you know bug say you were you're contending uh in a dynasty team and you need another receiver what would you give up for PUK and AA in terms of draft capital a lot I mean it's still you know just because 2025 and a 2026 second second rounders the next two yearsa absolutely no no no no for Cup oh for cup yes I would still do that for cup especially I mean I'm I'm a win now guy even in Dynasty we know that it's been talked about on the show at nauseum right so like I want to win today I want this roster to pay me so it doesn't always work that way if you're down you're down but but if you're in the middle you're making a push I would easily give up two Twos for Cooper cup because he is a guy that can put you over I trust myself drafting enough I you know I'm a person that watches enough college football to think that I'm going to be okay in the draft as well uh and I can make up for those picks by making just better picks maybe sometimes but it doesn't always work like that but for me I'm pushing I I want cup for sure so would you guys agree with this you know if Stafford you know last year he missed some time let's say he missed a month they're backup quarterback situation is pretty horrendous I mean Jimmy garoppo the guy we saw last year was beyond awful and I don't know about you I don't think ston Bennett's an NFL player so like it it it would it could get really ugly really fast if Stafford and he just has these weird injuries it's not like he doesn't have like acl's or it's just like something you're like what is this and then all of a sudden he misses three weeks I I understand that I'll say this though like Baker Mayfield looked pretty good in three days of ramp up time with Shawn McVey so get Jimmy back rolling you're saying I don't know if they get Jimmy back rolling but I think it'd be good enough to you know keep most of the value for these guys yeah um and that's the thing I mean John points it out like cup might have multiple vulnerabilities here his own uh like injury issues the last two years I think he's missed like 13 games and also like Stafford who's in his late 30s now and and has dealt with an increasing series of minor injuries so before we go to quarterbacks John I Rashee Rice see you have a Kansas City chief shirt on there uh Rashid rice um you know for dynasty great buy obviously because the suspension is looming people are down on him a lot of Xavier worthy Buzz as you mentioned um what do you think is happening with this suspension if anything do you think it's happening this year are they going to push it because the court dat has been moved back to December to 2025 and is is it a Buy Low Time on Rashid rice or because he's kind of a screw ball because they're adding Worthy is it maybe let somebody else handle uh Rashi rice and you're not going to touch it I think the hard part about guessing with suspensions you just never know right could just be a game you know maybe they get information it could be you know if it was really bad and obviously gotten had multiple issues maybe it's four so that that's a big blow but the one thing nice with Andy is he plays these boys and you watch him you go this guy's really good and there were question marks about him coming out of college it's why he didn't go even higher but you see him in that last preseason game he pops off the you know the screen he's just a really really good player and he's got a year of knowing the offense we saw what he did as a rookie so I if you told me he had no issues off the field I would expect a massive year out of him wouldn't you if I just said this is a good guy never been in trouble or whatever he's just one of the Chiefs main guys I'd be like he's gonna catch 90 balls for them and have 1,200 yards Joe asked me for redraft um the other day where would I have him if I knew there was no suspension it would be easily be as a wide receiver too uh I I and that might be low on a guy like rashy rice if if you just said no issues healthy like what type numbers would we be looking at with this guy I mean uh be big better than last year's numbers and they were great last year so can I can I bring up a counter point to this sure all right so here's why I maybe don't agree just because last year they had such little Firepower wide receiver and so few guys who could get open downfield like they were Justin Watson was their main deep threat because cadarius Tony was a train wreck from the first game uh they realized they couldn't count on him uh Sky Moore didn't work out Marquez Valdez scantling played like Marquez Valdez scantling always does so um and now like Hollywood Brown's not going to be that long maybe misses a game or two um and they've got Xavier worthy who brings major deep speed and we saw that speed uh he got behind the defense in the preseason game the other day caught a 22 yard uh touchdown I just think like with Andy Reid having that sort of speed at his disposal and what he's going to drop for Hollywood and mark and um um sorry uh Xavier worthy yeah I mean I just I think rice is still going to play a big role I just don't know if he is going to be targeted quite as frequently as he was last year I mean I still like him I agree he's a really good player I just don't know like last year I think his big Target numbers were largely out of necessity and maybe they don't need him quite as much this year my Counterpoint to that would be Travis Kel is gonna retire at some point and that it's going to leave a massive hole in this offense for um some of those shorter routes and I think Rashi rice right now would be the guy to fill that role so I I just think there's value there even Beyond uh you know this season with some of those guys on the roster still uh John you're the Chiefs guy what do you think yeah I would say to piggyback off that I I wonder if momes I mean he still loves doing fun stuff but it's kind of morphed into this mature player where it's like I'll hit these in routes these slant routes this guy can break a tackle he's a physical player uh I listen I know Andy Reid known him for a long time loves throwing bombs and that's that's going to be those line of scrimmage throws are going to get cut in half but I I I do think and you've seen it with Kelce once momes and you saw it with Tyreek becomes very comfortable with a Target I'm not gonna say he's Brady that way where he just won't throw it to you because I I do still think he's a little more uh you know open like gives you more chances you could argue last year he had to but I think he's pretty comfortable with this player and now they've been in big games that he trusts him not on Kelsey's level but has to be pretty high in a short period of time right because of the success they had down the stretch last year I think so too yeah it's going to be interesting to see how all those uh Targets in Kansas City end up uh by the end of the season but before we go and talk about some quarterbacks I got to tell you about reality Sports online by now most of you have probably heard of reality Sports Online the powerful fantasy sports platform our owners get Daniels because of course the rushing upside with him I think we might have been sleeping a little bit on Cale Williams in terms of his value not just for this season but maybe for dynasty as well John what are your thoughts on Caleb Williams and B Knicks for this season and Beyond well I think Caleb I think it's unfair because it's easy nitpick he's not great in the pocket now well yeah he's 21 years old and can he get there I you know that's on the coaching staff and development over the years but everyone compared him to momes and watching that game was it last Saturday or Sunday morning or whenever they play that second preseason game to me he's like more Prime Russell Wilson right now that ability to scramble keep plays alive eyes down the field and push the ball well Russell obviously once they got DK was like oh my gosh well he's got DJ Moore who would catch 80 balls with us three playing quarterback if Keenan's on the field he's getting open all the time and Rome was a legitimate I would say top 15 player on every board in the NFL like he's a really really talented guy and you got a running back who can catch the ball and a really good tight end so like to me the difference of I remember Fitz when we talked about it with Jaden it's not really debatable the talent between the two teams in terms of what's around you right his his Firepower is I I would say borderline unprecedented for a number one quarterback especially recently because they usually go to terrible teams right you think about like Jared gof to the Rams or you know uh Baker Mayfield when got yeah you just you just go to teams that are really really bad and even if he's not Andrew Luck immediately in terms of in the pocket which he's clearly not but who cares like to me could he throw what's his over touchdown passes this year would you be shocked if he threw 28 that feels a little high but feels he's getting above 20 would be shocking if he's not so is that number 25 and as he showed in the preseason game I he's not Jaden or Lamar or Kyler like really wants to run but he can and could he get a couple like inside the 10 scramble around so he gives you 24 passing touchdowns and another three or four rushing over the course of the year like I think his stats I I don't know in terms of like completion percent all that I just mean touchdowns yards and a couple rushing touchdowns like they're going to be there I promise you that how could they not yeah I mean Caleb looks primed uh I see his yards at 3500 is his over under I don't see the touchdown total here when I what would you guys if you if you had to take an educated guess right now what what would you expect touchdowns throws from Caleb Williams they're going to try to throw it a lot too like 22 said it low for a rookie I'm going higher 26 and like John said like 28 29 wouldn't Shock Me with the pass catchers he has DJ Moen Keenan Allen and Rome and Rome looks fantastic 23 and a half I found it 23 and a half is the Vegas odds but they're going to hit some big plays too right because Rome and DJ you know Keenan's not gonna go for 50 yard touchdowns but those other two could have what three or four in them and by the way this number is minus 125 and his under is plus 105 so it looks like it's closer to that 26 that that F just mentioned I I love the point John just made about um how Caleb's not really looking to run when he SC like he is really mobile but he keeps his eyes downfield and that's exactly like Russell Wilson I mean that I think that's part of what they love so much and why Prime version Prime version yeah or even early version of Russ when he like stole that job out from under Matt Flynn when uh they gave Matt Flynn all that crazy money then like didn't start a game for them but um and like I don't want to scout off Hard Knocks but Russ does or um Caleb does have this Swagger and like this this sort of confidence and like he's not getting the rookie treatment it seems like in Bears camp like it it already seems like he is this well-respected guy who's going to be a team leader in the next year or so and uh you know that that budding chemistry with Rome is really fun to see there was a play in this last Bears game where they didn't do much in their first few series but then like early in the second quarter um Tyler Scott beats a guy downfield and Caleb just drops an absolute dime there unfortunately didn't get credit because the Cincinnati Defender who got beat decided to just yank Tyler Scott down from behind but 43 yard pass interference man that was just a a beautiful rainbow of a throw so um man like this guy's gonna make plays year one so what he's going to be so good I mean he's not momes right but I do think he could develop into that Mahomes skill set that's you know that's why he's getting those comps is because we don't see guys running around in the pocket like that you know like there senak a Wallace it's uh it's momes and it's uh it's Caleb and you know there's not a lot of archetypes that are uh like that so I think that's why you're getting those comps most recent successful guy is momes but you're this is the opposite of what they they're giving Bo Knicks right like Bo Nicks was really good at Oregon obviously we don't Bo Nix Again think he is at of the level of Caleb Williams he wasn't even considered in that top realm people were questioning whether he's goingon to be a first round pick he ends up in Denver right they don't have the tools there in Denver but he is getting the starting job John is this too dicey uh to to mess with Bon Knicks immediately can this stunt him or is this good for him to get him out there and get him reps another quick comp that I think if you before everything got weird and he's not a good player anymore but early on DeShawn Watson with the Texans roll out scramble eyes downfield throw the ball and if you look at his numbers I mean he was throwing a lot of touchdowns right away and they they had some wide receivers I think that's a similar you know body types a little different but in terms of their play style scramble keep plays alive make plays uh I I liked Bo Knicks I remember before the draft I I went and watched him because he was kind of all the other guys were getting a lot more praise a lot of negativity around them and I remember it reminded me a lot of of Derek Carr and Jimmy Garoppolo as college prospects now he was playing at a higher level school now those guys went in the second round and Derek immediately became the starter and obviously Jimmy had to sit behind Tom but he would have been a starter on basically any other team by like a year or two and you watch Bo Knicks and right away to me he's like under command and has more control than those guys did immediately makes sense he has more college starts than you know any guy are there wide receivers a little better than we think we know like we talked about their running back room has a chance I mean gavonte was one of those guys that he was the I think 35th pick but I bet if you talk to most GMS and coaches in the league he was one of their favorite players in that draft it just got into a weird situation you know second year rush hack it then he gets injured and then just he's really really talented well you can throw him the and Shawn pton is just love him or hate him he's been one of the better offensive Minds in the league for right there with Andy Reed the last 25 years right so I mean you're talking about a great offensive coordinator I think there's something to be said about whether it's your job whether it's a relationship regardless when you don't like somebody and you're forced to be with them professionally personally it drives you nuts and it's the polar opposite when you really really like the person you work with you're with whatever and that's the that's what Shawn pyton like Shawn pyton couldn't stand Russell Wilson that was clear early it's the polar opposite with this like he kind of tried to do the old school Bill parcel's make him earn it I think the moment he threw like two passes in the first preseason game it was over he loves this guy and he loved him from the moment they started scouting him in the draft and you watch him physically like a little faster than you think I would say a little better armed Than You Think Clearly pretty accurate they're going to get rid of the ball fast he does not have the weapons you know of Caleb but I think big picture it might not happen this like I think there's a chance he's a pretty good player in this league for a while yeah and a guy we didn't even mention that's been getting a lot of run is crusty olette Tim Patrick has looked really good Marvin Mims uh you know with a good quarterback could add a little dcism to this offense here Fitzy what are your thoughts on Bo Knicks yeah um I probably am guilty of underestimating him and um you know we all want the sexy Dan Marino type arm he doesn't have that but what he does have and this is a weird comp to make because Brock py was Mr Irrelevant and B Nicks was taken in the top half of the first round but like maybe Nicks makes the same sort of easy transition per he makes to the NFL because like perie he started a ton of games in college and has all that playing experience and maybe that helps make the transition to the NFL a little easier for him I think you could be right let's talk about some tight ends but before we do that I want to invite you all to join our fantasy pros Discord Community you can chat with other fans get access to exclusive amas that wind up on our podcast feed you can join the Fel the the fun with myself Joe pipia and the Welsh Mondays at 2 pm Eastern Fitz and I are on Tuesday at 5:00 pm Eastern the Welsh and Ericson are on Thursday at 3 Eastern come and get your questions answered and be on the show at fantasypros.com SL chat all right boys let's talk about some tight ends here from the preseason that are making some noise Tamm Hill whose ECR right now is 20 which we had a Taysom Hill weird question the other day Fitz where there might be some Quirk and Yahoo where he doesn't qualify at tight end we heard from a listener I haven't gone by to look but it was weird from Yahoo because you trip over second base you get second base eligibility there Yahoo has since granted him yahooo has since granted him tight end eligibility okay all right so we got that all straightened out but Tamm Hill uh they're showing a lot of usage in him in the preseason different spots so it looks like maybe he could still be that weapon uh Ben sonat also is a climber in terms of ADP but he may be slipping down uh the depth chart a little bit because it looks like right now John Bates is ahead of him uh the big kid from Boise State so Zack Herz is their starter but also Johan doson gone there are now targets available in this offense for Washington so two intriguing tight ends John what are your thoughts on tames hill and Ben son well I would say this about tames Hill you know he took a lot of crap because the the quarterback thing the contract as a non-quarterback whatever position he's he could play for my team every day of the week and twice on Sundays I I I love that guy and one of my strongest takes going into this season I think the Saints are going to be good I think their defense is awesome and I think offensively Derek was a Abomination last early on in the season and they they got hot at the end and they made a coordinator change they got one of the kubc he's got a couple one of his brothers is still with Kyle and he stole the other one Clint and Clay I get them mixed up but that offense they were actually both calling plays against each other in that Saints Niner game because Kyle let him call plays like that offense works for quarterbacks and it makes it a lot easier and they mentioned this on the preseason game no team has more invested in the kind of that you know running back room and tesm can do that like T's a good running back he's like this way kind of different version of what use Che is but he can be much more productive because they will throw him the ball he can run the ball he can get him goal line carries I love tesm Hill and and like I said I think that the Saints are going to be good I I'm gonna bet them to win the division uh everyone's picking Atlanta which I understand why but the saints were n and eight last year nine and eight and their offense I mean you watch them early like in September nov in October you're like is this the NFL and we that's not going to be the case this year so I think their offense and I think Derrick's going to have a good year in this offense so I I like T Hill a lot any thoughts on Ben sonat no Fitzy your thoughts on hill or sonat Ben Sinnott yeah um I mean I do think Senate is going to be the best all-around tight end in in Washington in short order and I know it's kind of Veteran difference right now in the depth chart but now he'll ahead as the season goes on so maybe he's not going to be I don't know if you drafted him in Dynasty just sit tight don't get frustrated after the first few weeks um yeah he'll Dennis Allen does love him and now it seems like Clint kubak loves him too because he's getting a lot of work in the preseason and Hill was like tight end 10 last year maybe in PPR like tight end 12 um but like Alvin C's 29 and hasn't been great as purely in the running game for a couple of years uh Denis Allen seems to hate kendre Miller for whatever reason and goes out of his way to like bath I mean he really insults him every day he does man I I think he's great but I have no idea because he is and and Jamal and Jamal Williams averaged 2.9 yards per carry last year more concerned about his cats so Tamm Hill is gonna Tamm Hill is gonna get a lot of carries this year Andy occasionally passes and gives you receiving yardage too so like still a useful I know he like annoys a lot of people and fan but like he's a useful guy in fantasy and like you know even a better real life player than a fantasy guy I know Fitz we had talked when you came on my podcast about about uh Jaden Daniels and I I would say no one the hype on Caleb couldn't have been any bigger Jaden I wouldn't say he quite there but the momentum he built when the started training camp till as we're recording this today has been really strong you could B Nicks has come on of late but I just don't really like their team you know even if I'm in intrigued by the player I I just I I I'm high on the Saints I'm low on Washington which is okay they they've kind of reset this roster they got to playing a bunch of young guys uh but like you said I mean Cliff was really good with Kyler and their team was bad that year remember it took him like two more years to become a playoff team so I I just Washington makes me nervous the roster that that's what like I was hoping that this Dotson trade just uh you know set up the the iuk trade because I don't want to see uh Jaden go into this season with just totally diminished Weaponry you know like I there's so much writing on this kid like they got to get it right with him and that involves like putting Talent around him and you know instead they're getting rid of pass catching because his W because his wide receiver room last year was better than what he's dealing with right now yes by a wide margin so much better last year uh tons of NFL players I don't know if they're long-term NFL players uh in Washington uh behind Terry McClaren so we'll see Fitz before we go I want to ask you this question with these two tight ends if you're a team that is firmly in the middle you're not sure which way you're rolling right this season maybe a couple things break your way maybe a couple things don't between these two tight ends is it Tamm Hill on your roster is it Ben sonat yeah it's it's in it I mean Ton's what like 33 now I forget what his age is but League at like 30 yeah yeah medic red shirts right yeah so um like it's got to be S it but I mean for for this year I mean I would certainly bet on hill to have the greater fantasy impact okay can can I ask you a quick question about a guy that I I've read a couple articles and people have been kind of shorting this player I think he's got a chance to become one of the best tight ends in the league and you look at his last year I mean he when Kyler came back Trey McBride and now you add Marvin Harrison to just take a little pressure off him I think we could look in a couple years and Tra especially as Kelsey kind of Ages out and KD ages out I mean this is right there with leaport I I mean I I didn't know that much about him coming out of Colorado state but I remember early on the season going this guy this this is gonna work and I think himim and Kyler I think he's gonna have a big year I'm glad you brought him up because I'll tell you what I am I feel like I'm higher on Trey McBride than any other especially for dynasty I have him in that group with you know Bowers and leaport and those guys up there hackinson right so like you know this is a guy coming out of Colorado state was the only offense at Colorado state with some bad QBs too the defense knew the ball was going to Trey McBride and he would still catch 14 passes a game like every single game I mean Mountain West you're not playing the tippy top of the FBS in terms of competition every single week but they know what's happening they know the whole offense runs to the tight end and they still couldn't stop it and so I thought what we saw last year was just a sneak preview of his career I think he's going to be outstanding what are your thoughts on McBride Fitzy yeah pretty much Echo uh what you guys said like the talent is there for sure I don't think um you know where's basically he was the the lead receiver there last year just by default because Hollywood Brown couldn't stay he um obviously he's going to have to yield some targets to Marvin Harrison Jr but probably good that there is another threat in that offense so that um you know teams aren't aren't overwhelming I'm glad King I'm glad kingsberry is out of there because it felt like a weird pick for that offense because Z was there and obviously he brought Zs to Washington with him so if he was still in Arizona we may not know we may not be talking about Trey McBride right now so the one thing I'd say about Marvin Harrison is is obviously he's a stud Prospect and really good player but he's by far going to be their best receiver and they play in a really really good division uh with good defenses and we would imagine Seattle's goingon to be better on defense now that they got McDonald is that you know in the Big 10 he's a lot of you're not exactly seeing star Corners now you're playing Just highend Corner you're play in these defenses I know you can't truly double team a guy like a punt but he is going to they're going to be really aggressive with him how would you not be so how many teams have Luke Keeley and Fred Warner a linebacker to go with I just think Tre is gonna end up getting open because everyone's going to be focused on this on the young guy who one thing coming out was pretty clear and he even said this his dad said it like I I wish he was a little more aggressive you know it's not really he's kind of go with the flow which is awesome when you got other sweet guys you one on one coverage no one can cover him but I don't think he's going to just see like one-on-one coverage a lot yeah yeah I think you're right uh and and we've talked about that too like for the value Marvin you get no discount right like he is up there even in redraft like in Dynasty he's super high but even in redraft you get no discount uh so it makes a guy like Malik neighbors uh maybe more valuable in terms of the rookies like you can get him you know closer to the end of the third where you're picking up Marvin Marvin is borderline first round pick right now so yeah I think uh Marvin is great um and I think he makes Trey McBride better I think you're right John so if you put Malik neighbors right now with let's just say like a top 10 NFL quarterback where where would he rank I mean if I just put him to Marvin right next to Marvin cousins you know I I I think right next to Marvin because I I had them neck and neck right there I mean and I'm I kind of still hold a candle for Daniel Jones right like you know uh this is I he's not good I'm not going to sit here and tell you he's good right but I'll say that Malik neighbors is by far the best uh wide receiver that he's ever had and you know his best receiver before he had Malik neighbors was saquon Barkley who does who is does not play wide receiver so they haven't surrounded him by a bunch of talent in New York and he's done what he can so maybe adding a little bit of talent around him and a guy like Malik neighbors makes him pop I'm not I wouldn't bet on it but I I I hold a and still light a candle for Daniel Jones hey man two two years ago in D's first year there the Giants were 16th in offensive touchdowns middle of the pack there's at least hope for averageness there and and maybe even better than that with Neighbors in most teams the one pick he threw down the sideline to Derrik Stingley I I got news for you Derk Stingley might be the best corner in the league right now so most teams do not have Eagles Corner would have been four yards behind him so this is why I hate that we don't have IDP in fantasy football because we could talk we could sit here and talk about how great Derek single's Camp was and how he finally looks like he's worth that number four pick overall like he did uh that year at LSU when he was just you know shutting off 50% of the field uh he's I mean when you say from a gambling standpoint he's got defensive player of the year capability these next couple years one of those guys like 10 picks three pick sixes bunch of pbus you're just like is this the next Rivas right type because physically he is he's much different than and sauce in terms of his twitchiness and he's just an old school I mean he's an elite athlete right what what do they say it's uh 70% of the world is covered by water and the other 30% Derek Stingley Soh that will wrap it up for us today John thank you so much for joining us please uh give out your socials tell everyone where they can find you and what you're working on yeah three and out podcast you can subscribe wherever you get your podcast we got a YouTube channel we put it all up there as well uh find me on I'm I'm probably on
