What We Learned From Bills & Dolphins (Week 2 Fantasy Football)

well we just witnessed an absolute beat down on Thursday Night Football the bills crushed the Miami Dolphins tonight the good news is there actually was a lot of fantasy football takeaways to go build side of the ballb now with Josh Allen obviously this game got out of hand pretty early on like by halftime they were already up by two scores so it was like they were a situation where they just didn't need to pass much that's why you only saw them throw 18 passes it really was a lot of front-loaded stuff towards the beginning of the game now obviously what you come to rely on when it comes to Josh Allen especially when it came to week one is you rely a lot a lot on his legs and they just really weren't there tonight he only carried the ball twice for a total of two yards now again I don't really take too much away from this when it comes to Josh Allen because the simple fact of the matter is that with Josh Allen in particular he was just not very much needed tonight they were so efficient with James Cook James Cook is obviously the big name tonight because he ripped them apart I mean he ripped up the Dolphins defense to shreds and threw them in the trash I mean he carried the ball 11 times for 78 yards averaging 7.1 yards per carry and had two rushing touchdowns and on top of that he got a receiving touchdown for 17 yards James Cook was an absolute animal tonight had a hat trick definitely hope you started James Cook and I went over in my live stream actually told somebody to start James Cook over Devon aan who was great in this game as well in fantasy we'll get to that in a little bit but James Cook really has been the same sentiment for me at least in fantasy football this year which is that he is their number one option in this offense I'm not talking about running backs here I'm talking about when you look at all their weapons and you add all these guys up James Cook is the number one dog in this offense this is their most important offensive playmaker under this Joe Brady l offense by that offensive coordinator over there so with James Cook it doesn't really surprise me that he has just a massive boom type of week against the defense that's weaker and against the team that just history shows the Buffalo Bills always dominate in actual NFL terms so it doesn't surprise me that James Cook has a monster night for rushing even only on 11 targets Ray Davis came in obviously towards the end he actually did have a drive in that second quarter where I was like is James Cook injured but Ray Davis really didn't have that much involvement in this game to really be worried about James Cook's workload so don't take too much from James Cook having only double the amount of carries that Ray Davis had Ray Davis had one drive where he was slightly involved and then got involved really once the game got out of hand now dropping down to our receivers here one thing was definitely made clear tonight and really we got a good idea of it last week KH Shakir is the wide receiver one over at Buffalo it's not Keon Coleman Keon Coleman actually led the team in targets last week Keon Coleman was a ghost basically in this game he got targeted a couple times and they just didn't weren't able to connect there was a lot of Jaylen Ramsey on Keon Coleman tonight so it's not really much of a surprise that Keon colan wasn't able to produce I did expect him to hit a big player too though so I am disappointed but again when you got Josh Allen throwing the ball only 18 times that's not going to be a normal week so I really wouldn't think too heavily on Keon Coleman's lack of involvement I would really just tread water because Keon Coleman is going to continuously be involved and they're going to be in tighter games where Josh Allen is going to need to keep throwing well into the second half really the big takeaway should be khil Shakir khil Shakir is that guy that Josh Allen can really trust at every level of the field basically he obviously trusts him on a lot of short routes he's only averaging 10.8 yards for reception tonight but he was definitely targeted quite a bit over the middle dude took some shots too like he took some big hits and he was still hanging on the ball and catching everything that came his way so I as far as I'm concerned khil Shakir is going to start entering that backend wide receiver 2 and frontend wide receiver 3 conversation for me so maybe there will be an update on the rankings next week and you might see khil shakir's face in the week three wide receiver rankings I'm still undecided we'll obviously have to see how the rest of the weekend goes for everybody else involved but KH Shakir definitely is going to be a guy that you're going to want to keep an eye on big time now d g Kade had a bounce back weak to a certain extent had four catches in this game 33 yards had it really nice run after the catch after one of them d k Kate is still he's still a worry for me he's not nearly as involved as I thought he was going to be and I get it we're two weeks deep Don concade is a was a fifth rounder though for most of us drafting in fantasy drafts whether it was a best ball draft on Underdog whether it was a redraft league on ESPN or sleeper d k k just simply has not met that just yet now I'm not out on D con k I'm not selling d k k just yet personally because again the upside in this offense is simply just too high and there's still too much up for grabs in this offense like I think khil Shakir is taking this wide receiver one roll but Dalton concade still could become a good second passing option for Josh Allen it just hasn't really developed yet so I'm really just waiting to see if he can be integrated better in Joe Brady system because dton concade has so much talent and it's really kind of starting to feel wasted a little bit over in the Buffalo Bills offense and then that's about it Curtis Samuel was they tried to get him involved this is why I was never big Curtis Samuel guy Curtis Samuel at this point of his career just doesn't look as good and as explosive as he once did when he was with the Washington commanders for example Curtis Samuel just isn't the same guys as he used to be so I've just never been big on Curtis Samuel the guy that you want in this wide receiver room is definitely Kio Shakir speaking of sure things the CD lamb line on dominate the Dolphins so this doesn't come as a surprise to me that they ended up winning this game I thought it was going to be a little bit closer to be honest with you but it it's not surpris to me that bills won this game and it really doesn't surprise me that it turned into a blowout now let's go over to the Dolphins side of the ball there's obviously big story lines here starting with Tua Tua was having a pretty horrific game and then he obviously gets injured gets another concussion it's a bad thing for Tua because if you factor in the history with Tua Tonga vioa two years ago on Thursday night football against the Cincinnati Bengals dude got a concussion and everybody saw you know and to my knowledge he hasn't had a concussion since that 2022 season but this is like the fourth one in that two-year span so it's not it's not a positive thing now I don't I'm not saying like he's going to come out and retire here this week I'd be shocked to see him do that he just got signed to a big deal but it's definitely a problem now the positive thing I guess to take away is that this is a Thursday night game so they've got 10 days until their next game on Sunday so I guess the jury can still be out on whether Tua plays next week or not but definitely not a good sign for Tua in his long-term health and How likely he is to get another concussion this year because from what I've heard from doctors you're more likely to get another concussion after the concussion that you just had you're just more prone to getting another one within you know couple weeks or a couple months and the play that he ended up getting the concussion on was a run play like he was trying to get the first down on a fourth and three so it's like I commend him for you know going and putting his body on the line like that but really the ultimate problem here that offensive line in Miami is not good and again I know the Buffalo Bills usually dominate the dolphins that Dolphins offensive line was he had they were just not protecting to teron Armstead the left tackle he ended up like in and out of the game a bunch of times ended up not finishing the game but that offensive line was really really bad tonight and they did miss another left guard as well but that offensive line is is scary it's scary for sure the one thing you can't take away from Tua tonight was that he was technically efficient like Mike McDaniel's still a good enough offensive coach that he's going to find ways to get people the ball but there's a reason like his throws they were all pretty short and in the 17 compl see he only had 145 yards that's less than 10 yards per throw so Tua was all with not a very good knight and obviously we'll have to keep monitoring what this situation is because this could turn ugly I have a little bit of a fear of that and I got to tell you if they're going with Skyler Thompson it's going to give me Green Bay Vibes with Malik Willis which is like what is this guy doing as your backup I mean I watched every play with Skyler Thompson he is bad I mean he is so inaccurate and so horrible Under Pressure I guess the one thing is that he can move round I guess but man this Skyler Thompson LED Miami Miami Dolphins offense is not very good so if that's their guy I'm a little bit worried about Jaylen Wadd and Tyreek Hill to a certain extent we'll get more into them later but with Devon aan that's their bright spot Devon hen we actually learned a couple things here tonight with Devon hen number one he was obviously healthy enough to handle 21 carries got 90 yards out of it for an average of 4.3 yards per so Devon hen coming into the night as a game time decision ended up playing obviously and did great I mean he was he monopolized the backfield basically I thought Jaylen Wright was going to be a lot more involved really really bad calls I told a couple people on the live stream in tough situations may want to look in Jaylen Wright's way so Jaylen Wright obviously that was a big swing in a Miss tonight for me personally but Devon hen I just think that he was in a situation where he was the only thing that was woring working for the Miami Dolphins I mean they couldn't get anything going down the field so it was a lot of screen passes a lot of Swing routes for Devon hen he ended up being one of their leading receivers five catches for 37 yards and a touchdown as well Devon hen was everywhere in this game he ended up having a fantastic game for Fantasy Football over 20 points and so this can make you feel really confident about Devon anan's fantasy outlook for the rest of the year really because the simple fact about Devon aan is that he was ultimately just the most important piece in times of Crisis and they actually were comfortable with utilizing him as our number one back now obviously moer was playing this game who knows if he would have monopolized the backfield to this level but this is clearly what we saw tonight he's good enough to handle that type of workload and it did look like he was kind of losing some steam there at the end like he was kind of grimacing a little bit so maybe he's I mean I'm sure he's still dealing with the angle injury to a certain extent but Devon anent just based on CL based on efficiency based on the amount of involvement he had I think Devon H you could feel really confident having as your R running back one and really any time that he suits up he should never leave your lineup in fantasy football now it may shock you to learn that jonu Fring Smith was the Dolphins number one wide receiver tonight six catches for 53 yards jonu Smith of all people was the leading reception guy for the Miami Dolphins here you know it's interesting because Johnny Smith was involved last week a little bit for the Dolphins and I contemplated putting him closer in my top 15 tight end rankings today and I ultimately decided not to do that because the Dolphins have a history of not utilizing tight ends much now again this could become because of game script Johnny Smith was one of their short Target guys and they had no success down the field and really not much over the middle of the field except for early on in the game where Jaylen wad had a couple middle of the field receptions Jaylen wad did have a couple of those plays Four catches for 41 yards that's what we saw from Jaya W and a lot of that production was basically from the first half when they were still having some success doing that now obviously the bills were able to shut that down during the second half that they knew what was coming so they were like yeah let's cover the middle of the field cuz that's what's exactly coming from the Dolphins so Jaylen wad was kind of left a little Irrelevant in the second half and then Tyreek Hill massive dud this week it's going to hurt a lot of fantasy teams including a lot of mine cuz I've got plenty of Tyreek ultimately with Tyreek Hill and with Jaya Wadd you can't really overthink these two guys 99% of the time you're going to start one of these two players in fantasy football the upside is just simply too high now again that's going to depend on Tu aunga vioa because of Skyler Thompson is the guy playing next week both of these guys are probably still starts because they're so high upside they're probably going to move down in my rankings a couple spots at the very least because this guy just cannot play ball like he is just not very good maybe with a full week of practice as a starter he looked better he got thrown into the middle of the game I can empathize with that but this guy was not very accurate tonight he just did not look very good Under Pressure either and this offensive line is just not very good the ultimate problem I have with dolphins players is that they will get pushed around like the Dolphins are prone to getting pushed around by more physical teams teams like the San Francisco 49ers the Buffalo Bills tonight showed it the Kansas City Chiefs can do it too they are prone to getting pushed around and that's when Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Wadd usually suffer some of their most inconsistent play in a fantasy football season the most positive takeaway from me was definitely Devon Anan this guy was the guy in times of Crisis for Tua and for Skyler Thompson that was when Skyler Thompson was completing a lot of his passes was when he was throwing to Devon aan so Devon hent was the most positive takeaway for me because at this point I almost kind of feel like he's a little bit match proof and you can play Devon hen in basically every situation as long as he is on the field
