MAYOR, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR GIVING US OUR TIME. I WANT TO BEGIN WITH THE THREATS IN THE SCHOOLS, WHICH FORMER PRESIDENT TRUMP WAS ASKED ABOUT. >> THE POLICE CHIEF, THEY HAVE ALL DEBUNKED THE STORY. BUT NOW, THERE ARE KIDS BEING EVACUATED. WHY DO YOU STILL SPREAD THIS FALSE STORY? >> THE REAL THREAT IS WHAT IS HAPPENING. YOU ALSO HAVE WOMEN DYING. YOU HAVE WOMEN DYING. >> MAYOR, YOUR REACTIONS TO THESE COMMENTS? >> IT'S OBVIOUSLY DIFFICULT TO HEAR. I JUST WANT TO SAY, THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME ON. IT'S A WONDERFUL COMMUNITY. WE NEED HELP. WE NEED TO HAVE FEDERAL LEADERS THAT ARE SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITIES LIKE OURS, UNDERSTANDING THE WEIGHT OF THEIR WORDS, AND WHAT THEY ARE SAYING. HOW IT COULD DEVASTATE THESE COMMUNITIES LIKE OURS. >> HELP US SEPARATE FACT FROM FICTION. ASSAULT PRESS CONFERENCE FROM YOU EARLIER IN THE WEEK. WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON RIGHT NOW IN YOUR COMMUNITY? >> BECAUSE OF THE SPREAD OF CONCERN WITH THE BOMB THREATS WE'VE HAD, YOU KNOW, WE ARE IN PAIN RIGHT NOW IS WHAT IS GOING ON. I WILL NOT DENY, IT'S BEEN A DIFFICULT LAST THREE YEARS. WE'VE HAD AN INFLUX OF IMMIGRANTS COME IN, WHICH HAS INCREASED POPULATION BY 20-25%. THAT WILL PUT A STRAIN ON ANY INFRASTRUCTURE IN ANY CITY. SOME DIFFICULTIES THAT WE ARE TRYING TO WRAP OUR ARMS AROUND. SO DOES THE SAME THING WE ARE DOING. >> AND HE SAID TODAY HE MAY COME TO SPRINGFIELD. WOULD YOU ONE IN THERE? >> I THINK THAT COULD BE DIFFICULT. VERY DIFFICULT FOR SPRINGFIELD. >> IF HE DID COME, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY? >> I DON'T KNOW IF I WOULD HAVE THE CHANCE TO TALK TO HIM. >> AS THE MAYOR? >> THAT'S RIGHT. I WOULD SAY WE NEED HELP. WHEN HE PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND THAT SPRINGFIELD, WE CARE ABOUT OUR COMMUNITIES. WE WORK COLLABORATIVELY TOGETHER TO SOLVE PROBLEMS. >> HAVE YOU REACHED OUT TO THE TRUMP AND VANCE CAMPAIGN DIRECTLY? >> I BELIEVE THAT SOME OF OUR CITY STAFF MEMBERS HAVE LOOKING TO THEM. TO LET THEM KNOW THAT WHAT WE ARE SEEING IN THE AREA, SOME OF THE MEMES AND WORD SPOKEN ABOUT OUR TOWN. >> DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE RESPONSE HAS BEEN? I KNOW EARLIER THIS WEEK, THE GOVERNOR THERE, HE ANNOUNCED THAT HE WAS SENDING MORE RESOURCES TO SPRINGFIELD AREA HOW MUCH ASSISTANCE FROM STATE AND FEDERAL AUTHORITIES HAVE YOU REQUESTED? AND HOW MUCH HELP DO YOU NEED IN PROTECTING YOUR CITIZENS? AND WHAT WAS GOING ON THERE? >> MY GOVERNOR, MIKE DeWINE, HE'S BEEN VERY ENGAGED THROUGHOUT THIS PROCESS. WE HAD A SCHEDULED, COORDINATED EFFORT IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE STATE POLICE. EXCUSE ME, WITH OUR CITY POLICE, COUNTY DEPUTIES, AND THE SHERIFF TO HELP US WITH RECKLESS OPERATIONS ON OUR ROADS. WE HAVE PEOPLE THAT DON'T UNDERSTAND DRIVING, CAUSING HARM IN OUR COMMUNITY. SO WE NEED HELP IN THAT AREA. THIS IS A COORDINATED EFFORT. THE GOVERNOR DID NOT SEND TROOPS TO SPRINGFIELD. HE ACTUALLY HELPED US PUT TOGETHER A PROGRAM. ALSO, HE'S GIVEN US 2 1/2 BILLION DOLLARS OVER THE NEXT TWO YEARS, WHICH WILL PRIMARILY BE GOING. A NEED TO BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE PEOPLE THAT ARE HERE IN OUR TOWN. THAT'S DEFINITELY BEEN AN ISSUE WITHIN THE FEDERALLY FUNDED HOSPITAL AN HOUR SAFETY SOURCES. >> MAYOR, MY COLLEAGUE YAMICHE ALCINDOR WAS THERE THIS WEEK . LET'S LISTEN TO SOME OF THAT. >> THEY ARE SCARED FOR THEIR LIVES. EVEN YOU WILL SEE, I'VE GOT A FRIEND CALLING ME, ASKING IF HE HAS TO THE BECAUSE HE IS SCARED FOR HIS LIFE. ANOTHER FRIEND TOLD ME IT SEEMS THAT HE WOULD'VE HAD SOME FAMILY COMING TO VISIT HIM, BECAUSE IT IS NOT SAFE RIGHT NOW FOR HIM. >> HOW CAN YOU REASSURE THESE RESIDENTS THAT THEY WILL BE SAFE? AND I WANT TO GET YOUR RESPONSE TO DONALD TRUMP AGAIN REPEATING THE CLAIM THAT THERE ARE IMMIGRANTS THERE ILLEGALLY. >> THE IMMIGRANTS ARE HERE UNDER THE POLICY, SO THEY ARE NOT LEAVING ANYTIME SOON. SO WE CAN BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY. I HATE THE FACT THAT ANY OTHER HUMAN BEING FEELING SUCH THAT IN OUR COMMUNITY. AND IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO HEAR THAT. THAT IT RESIDES WITHIN FOLKS WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY.
