next for the Red Sox he's someone that really beats up on right-handed pitching the lefties however give him a little bit more trouble first pitch doesn't find the Zone one out base is empty that one's in there that's strike one and a swinging a miss one [Applause] ball and now the count is even spoils the two strike pitch and he'll see another and now the Lefty stays alive swings and misses G it right by him two outs B is empty now batting Tristan Casas that's a strike it's own and one two out SP is empty and that one a little below the knees one and one swing in a Miss as he was out [Applause] front swings and misses and a nice inning of work there as he bottom of the first and now it's going to be Parker Meadows and the pitch and that's off the Inside Edge and it's w andó hard grounder into the outfield for a knock man aboard on the leadoff single everything came together for him Prett tough for the infield to do anything with that one he pulled it hard into the Outfield even when you keep it on the ground it feels great when you hit a Miss like that Riley Green in the box now no balls in a strike the pitch on the ground to the left oh great stop to First the throw is wild and it gets away now second and third and nobody out and he'll pull into second safely so taking in Matt Bey golden opportunity right [Applause] here check swing did he go yes he did next offering in there for a strike and that is strike two [Applause] rander kicks deals and a swing in a miss and that is a big first out so two in scoring position with one out and now the DH carry Carpenter and fouled off [Applause] now one one highfly ball out to left field O'Neal drifts towards it brings it in run tag you from third Thro is and he scores on the board first it's one Z the next to that Cliffs a [Applause] corner line to left and that's a base hit headed for the plate he scores and they lead by two comes through with the RBI kind of a risky pitch coming inside with the breaking ball like that you have to bury it otherwise it's not too difficult to get the to like he did that time petta checks over to First and he's back next to hit Spencer Tolson and first off ring is fouled off the pitch just off the outside edge they've got him working a little harder in this first frame than he anticipated next pitch way upstairs two outs that one fouled off two and two gets a piece and stays alive and the pitch swing and a line drive slicing into right field and that'll get down for a base hit B is seven the third Bas at the play jce Young and that one fouled off kicks and that one the other way he's got it and that'll end the inning new inning getting started here's Raphael Des after putting up a nice Inning on offense got some runs across this is where you look for the starter to go out there have a shut down in don't give that other team any hope just hope that he can get through this inning get the bats back up there while they're hot the throw in into second easily with a lead off double first pitch swing in went up there with the plan to be aggressive anytime you rip a line drive the other way you feel really good about what you did at the plate you trusted your hands you let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it that's great work right there Des at second with nobody out strike two quickly into an2 count both pitch were down in the zone I think you set your sights a little bit higher because you'll have a tendency to chase if you look down in that area and another ball not what you're looking for after to the lead off double a strike out and there's one away masataka Yoshida up next to the Red Sox and ball one thinking about yosa he's never going to be the biggest player when he's on the field but that doesn't mean he can't hit he gets on base and doesn't strike out very often that combo makes you a valuable asset to your club and that one is lifted in the [Applause] air makes the grab for the second out [Applause] Conor W up next for the Red Sox obviously a guy who makes good contact hits for average but one of the things in today's game the value in the fact that he hits both righties and lefties fast for a strike they're so reling on the matchups nowadays Chris and it's huge when you don't have to sit a guy or Plato when you can hit you know both sides in terms of pitcher arms you're a guy that it's hard to take out of the lineup and I think very important today when everything is under the microscope man on second two down not close with that one and the Count's even a two chase that wasn't fooling anyone it's a tough place to be CU not always obvious what adjustments need to be made sometimes it's location sometimes it's being too predictable sometimes you're tipping your pitches that time and he really sells the change up with that arm action and a ball even count he never moved cuz he never had time to with that kind of velocity you'd prefer that pitcher work away spoils that one and it remains two and two center field Meadows under it makes the grab and there's two gone so the Red Sox lineup turns over Jaren Durant will hit next for one with a fly out to Center first pitch misses the only adjustment he needs to make is his Target if you aim at the outside corner that slider's going to end up way off the plate perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want next off in there for a strike one and two and a swing in a miss and it's a three up three bottom of the inning's Riley greeny green the line of the pitch chase that time well stat on D he's at his best when he's hitting homers and doubles and by the time he was 26 years old Des already had over 150 home runs more than 200 dou he's just the 15th player in baseball history with those kinds of numbers at that age slider misses outside okay and that's in for a strike the Red Sox down by a pair top half of inning number four and another ball Chris with that distraction and the Speedy guy at first he's in a favorable hitters count well if nothing else I mean this is a great spot for a hitter to be in the pitch so de will take his base he's making things difficult for himself right now out there on the but you know his confidence should still be high enough to get out of this but he's going to have to buckle down right here O'Neal in the box with one away as he takes ball one all lies on the ball in this spot no better way to get out of this inning and a count one and two well he knows they don't want to give him anything to hit but when you've got opportunities to drive in runs you've got to expand the Zone he's swinging two away so first and second with two outs now here's the Red Sox DH masataka Yoshida there a strike of the knees he's pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes usually doesn't work out for success but he can never predict [Applause] baseball that's way outside ball two could be some action here on this next pitch couple Runners on probably a challenge pitch coming left hand hitter Waits fights it off he'll see another a over at second Des on it first with two down swing and a Popa fou territory strike righty to the plate and that one fouled off the wide the kick in the onew and down on strikes and that's the first out and up next for Detroit Spencer tol he's already singled in this three and0 a rare three ball count here he's been throwing strikes all day got to be ready to hit if you're in the Box one of the things about that two out walk the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead so ball down the line or into the gap two out RBI and those are the best that is if you the offensive side of it Sweeny in the now as he leaves that one up high can't find it here that's six straight balls kicks and fires one way to make a guy real uncomfortable with the plate is pound him inside with good velocity they're doing that right here foul ball there throw over to First young back in standing and that one ripped into right and that is that back here in Detroit and here's the catcher Conor W this is a guy who is very highly defensively fun to watch him control stuff behind the plate Good Game caller good at framing but it's that big arm that really stands out Rogers makes the catch and there's one gone and here is sedan Rafaela went down on strikes his first time through pitches in the dirt and that's ball one and that's downstairs and outside and another ball that one catches the corner for a [Applause] strike and there's ball for pretty easy walk right there last pitch wasn't even much to think about now Romy Gonzalez he's someone that you might not describe as having Elite level speed but he can absolutely move and it is a factor in his game he was late there strike one look this guy's definitely a plus Runner but what i' love about him is that he goes all out every single time never takes a break it's guys like that even though they don't have the Elite Speed the fact that they're consistent with it they make moves on the base [Applause] passs here's the 02 that one missed one and two off the plate inside and the count is even two and two offering misses down and away so here we goe run at first could be running on the pitch he's got good enough speed to steal the bag to get in scoring position even if it's a swing and Miss at the plate meow grabs it on the run so the batting order turns over now batting Jaren Durant dur [Applause] and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed [Applause] hitter in the air right field no trouble here puts it away for the out we head to the bottom of the fifth here's the catcher Jake Rogers the right hander back to work tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away well these Tigers digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they're taking we've already seen eight line drives from them and it's always a good sign when the ball is jumping off your and that's what this offense has been doing so far today Dives but it kicks off his blow the throw is still in time and they come away with an out after a tricky start to the play play back to the top of the Detroit order partner Meadows getting ready to hit and first offering is fouled off ball one there b is empty one away last half of inning number five next pitch is I think he rushed it a little bit and when guys Rush can be a popup or can be bunted right back at a position player swinging a miss and a count is and two more more guys are to of the count this situ cut on and Miss struck him out and good work there as he gets a one two back at Park all set for the top of the six and stepping in for Boston will AR sco back to work swinging a foul straight back you know these red so showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one St leash has to be getting tighter with his pitch count where it is but so far he's been really in this one slider got him strike three so up next Tristan CES who's over for two in a pair of [Applause] strikeouts that one finds the zone and that's strike one you know sometimes it just takes getting to the B pin in order to be able to score runs and that might be the case today swing in a Miss as he was out front that time and another the Tigers leading by two and we're the top half of the six and a swinging the Miss and there's two down rapael Des up to him de the baby fa assassin he's got a rare skill set out there on the even when he's low on energy his still has bite to it you just don't see it flattening out just because he's tired he's still delivering good action couldn't have timed it up any better than that nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line you know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn't always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly O'Neal stands in with two away as he takes a Ball Des leads off first with two down to the inning and that's outside and that's B two struggled a little bit in this one couple of strikeouts earlier but a job Miss to get ahead and find a good hit count at two and two outs this one chopped on the ground but foul that one in the dirt ball three and he's close as he's trying to get through six full Innings right now he's about to throw his one got him that's the third out well we go bottom six and now the right fielder Matt [Applause] verling as he turns on the rubber with that good live arm delivers verling goes 6' 3 in 27 years old usually in left but today he's starting in right field the chase that time the big play in my opinion from right field is that Row from right field to Third Base longest one in the game and you got to have a pretty strong arm hopefully he can play that one hop nicely if he has an opportunity to throw out a runner ball for a [Applause] strike struck him out looking the B the carry Carpenter up now for the [Applause] Tigers and there's a strike on the outside corner that Hook's looking pretty sharp today just a solid pitching performance so far and I really think it's because of that curveball in the air left side two down two outs Bas is empty here's the second base one for two he and an RBI base hit back in the first that Clips the corner two down nobody on here in the bottom of the six the next offering misses one ball one strike there's a strike [Applause] two balls two strikes the C with two outs and another [Applause] ball on the ground whips it to KAS and that is that top of inning number seven so stepping in for Boston masataka Yoshi scole back to work Bing ball here rolls foul SL up is having a tough time finding a good Rhythm at the plate their swings are disjointed which tells me they're having issues with pitch recognition that one misses and the count is one and one wouldn't chase that time swings through that one cuts on it and misses that's a strike out couldn't catch up to the heater and now here is Conor W and a foul ball this pitcher has done a good job of disrupting The Hitter timing with the mix of pitches and changing speeds you want to keep that front foot inconsistent for the batter their swings are hesitant andly you want on the M next offering is in for a strike swing and a miss that one in the dirt in time for the second out good job to clean it up after the drop third strike and now the short stop sedan [Applause] Rafaela swing and a miss going so far this gu been able to tease the strike zone gets those swings and misses going to have to shorten up be a little more patient and make this guy work in the zone a little more two down fights that one away and the count remains and two FW open a little bit with that front shoulder but was able to slow his back down now that strike three and the third out so we take a [Applause] break Ren in Bernard takes over on the just trying to keep this one close here and this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game Spencer up now for the Tigers one for two and he deals pitch misses and it's one and0 Bernardino he a name for himself as a very effective reliever but not really what you expect from a bullpen arm these days cuz he's not out there racking up Cs and that one missing low I think it's the deception his ability to change arm angles and slots and give hitters different looks within one at bat they're never able to get comfortable when you only see him once lot of times he has success O'Neal moving under it and makes the grab one up one down now now the third baseman Jace Young got to be clever too when you don't have that lights out stuff right absolutely and you got to know what you're able to do instead of focusing on what that hitter strength is stay with your strength and trust that you'll come out on top EMP one away here the bottom of the seven that misses the zone and it's two and [Applause] two this one lifted in the air left field no trouble here puts it away for the out and there's two away and next to him for Detroit Trey Sweeny [Applause] swe and that is in for a strike one one and ball one that misses the zone two and one swag in a miss good late sink on that fast out of the hand looks so good and then by the time he gets in the hitting all hard to get the barrel to it and it's filled up [Applause] and now the Lefty goes down swinging for the strike out snuck the fast ball by him and welcome back to the ballark now it's the second basem Romy Gonzalez the pitch and that one is in the dirt ball one and a foul ball the pitch and that is cut on and miss one and two so impressive how the is still there even deep into thee swing and a miss struck him out looks like he's picked up right where he left off so the lineup flips over here's the center fielder jiren Durant pulls that one foul the Lefty fires and there's the stri and he just dialed in right now every pitch throwing with so much conviction and that one's a little bit low and the count is one and two really good take especially with two strikes in the air on the infield drifts towards it brings it in and there are two outs two outs face is empty now it's the right fielder Willer aru and the first pitch misses for ball [Applause] one fouled off left side two down nobody on and we're in the top of the eigh and a ground ball to First and he grabs it in foul ground swing and a miss struck him out and it's a one two three [Applause] inning Zack Kelly will take over here pretty tight game so they're looking for Quality pitches out of him right here got to do his best to keep the score right where it is Jake Rogers up now for the Tigers and Chris his big strength is defense but it is interesting in today's world of baseball compared to when you played a good defensive catcher is considered differently whatever you get offensively is a bonus but he's got to put the fingers down he's got to present pitches to the Umpire they're going to help his pit get more strikes swing and a foul pushed off to the right and that will get out of play I think the other component is putting down the finger that the pitcher wants to throw and being on the same page and that's something that this guy does really well gets in sync with his [Applause] pitchers right-handed reliever battling here as he fouls it away boo his preparation is off the I was down in the clubhouse today trying to find him just to pick his brain a little bit he's so buried in that video room it's hard to get a chance to talk to him the punch out there and that's the first out back to the top of the lineup and now the center fielder Parker Meadows [Music] the one that one is [Applause] upstairs swings and misses and it's one and two one down base is empty knocks that one away and we'll do it again and the righty deals right through there got him that's the second out here's the left fielder Riley green three pitch strike out last time up got to put up more fighting this one and a good eye there to the right side tosses to First and the Tigers retired one two three we're back and on the mound is the closer Jason Foley these are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves late and close there's not much margin for error but at the same time there's a reason they're put in these situations and now the first baseman Tristan casus over three with three strikeouts and a pitch splits the plate strike one fing a righty that throws with power he features a sinker a slider a change up and he works in a for Seer it's getting squeezed a little bit here late and the right-hander deals that one fouled [Applause] off cracks his back pops him up well there's one away de [Applause] now B one no strikes about the right guy at the right spot they really need a rally and this guy is someone you can believe in to find a way to get on base just missed tried to back door with that slider right there but just missed off the plate good pitch though that's him for a strike just amazing to me how many closers and back relever just thr absolute gas these days I never had a chance and the slider just misses lace down the line this looks like extra bases makes the turn and heads for second pulls in with a double third hit for him today himself a really nice game at the plate he really let that ball travel on the outside part of the plate but that's a great example that you can still drive the base that's away rip that one down the line for the double O'Neal in the box now strike one with the tying run at the plate here the top of the [Applause] night outside low and to count even one and [Applause] one swing and a miss in that strike two a tough at the play three strikeouts already it's hard not to think negative but you got to find a way to somehow Center up the baseball and put it in [Applause] play the tying run at the plate on the ground to Third and foul ball looking for the K last out for the Red Sox in this one and next is the designated hitter masataka Yoshida little Chopper rolls foul runner at second two down they're down to the final strike one strike away that one off the bad part of the bat just a Lazy Fly ball and that'll fall for a base hit the Run comes in from second and they Trail by one they didn't get much of that one but it's going to look like a line drive in the SC tomorrow that probably had no business ending up as a base hit but he got just to musle it to the out steps on the himself b game not all saes
