Georgia vs. Tennessee Tech Game Recap - College Football Week 2

Dion we said that Georgia should make very quick work of Tennessee Tech get in and out of that game healthy with a big win it's exactly what they did 48 to3 in favor of the Bulldogs Carson Beck threw for five touchdowns etn only five carries in this game thought there might be more 78 yards and this was just a this was a scrimmage for Georgia let's be frank this was a scrimmage kind of seems like they treated it like it they Tennessee Tech got a field goal in the fourth quarter kind of just a congrat you didn't get shut out kind of kind of field goal but the game was over well before then I don't know if you take anything away from this if you're Georgia but you're now coming into a two- game Road Trip that we talked about in the preview at Kentucky at Alabama that looks a little bit easier now that Kent lost to South Carolina in your in your mind what what are the big takeaways from this game from the Georgia side of things so to me to me this is where this is where like and Georgia was 54 and a half Point uh favorites at some point I I don't know where the line closed on my bookie but when we did the preview that's where it was at um and effectively if you bet them first quarter first half full game you would have lost everything um and to me that's concerning if you're a Georgia team because like I'm I'm a firm believer in the statement good teams win great teams cover and I what I saw from this game was a Tennessee Tech team that didn't fear Georgia athletically and that that was that to me was who you know what I mean like the because Georgia's that's big bad Georgia they're gonna overpower you they're more physical they're more athletic their quarterback's going to do just enough and and to be quite Frank for Carson Beck he did do just enough yet had number one pick just barely skates by five five touchdowns just enough just enough just 18 to 25 242 U just enough just enough I wanted to see a little bit more out of him I wanted it to be the Carson Beck show I wanted it to be uh you know fresh out the gates and I don't feel like we got that now I do think you're correct um in the in the sense that I do believe they uh view this as a scrimmage yeah but that stuff catches up to you man like you could these games need to be bully beatdowns and I know coaches don't believe in covering the spread I get it especially especially a Kirby Smart um I can't imagine he cares too much about covering the spread but like these are the games that like Define teams for me and um you know it's back-to-back weeks where I just felt like Georgia was a bit underr yeah the first half against Clemson um I I think is fair to me I I'm not gonna the only thing I would take away from this is if this game was close at any point and it wasn't like Georgia went into this game to get some reps in a lot of guys played they left healthy like that's to me that that's that's why they played this game you padded Carson Beck's stats you know we can have we're going to have the conversation at some point about your true feelings on Carson Beck we'll get there um but they wanted to come into this game get some guys reps put nothing on tape just execute and I think that's what they that's what they did wasn't anything that was overly impressive like I know coming away from this being like oh wow Georgia won 48 to3 against Tennessee Tech I think doing that be incredibly naive or that oh Carson Beck threw five touchdowns incredibly naive they just they went in there and did what they were supposed to do yes they can be you know more dominant and look more impressive the end of the day what's the difference between beating somebody 6 to three versus 48-3 right a lot like it's a it's a it's a blowout and you're you're you're going to win and if you're a team like Georgia who's got much much higher aspirations and let's keep in mind a much longer season this year too potentially two extra games on the schedule for Georgia I think you you take the Breather in this game where you may not have coup years previous so I I agree uh first first and foremost that like who cares right like it's a breather there's no difference in the 20 points but but and this is where I do think the 20 points matters it's because there was points in the game where Tennessee Tech was able to hang with them and Tennessee Tech had longer drives did they end in points absolutely not but were they able to control the clock at very various points right like um in the game shirt and like that's the type of stuff that like I think this Georgia team lacks depth in comparison to other ones you know what I mean like um the their last National Title team um would have taken the same approach but their second and third stringers would have beat this team down yeah and this time you know what I mean like it's like oh we won't put anything on tape with the starters but for your second stringers hey go put stuff on tape that way you can hit the portal in the offseason hypothetically right like that's kind of the thought process especially nowadays and I don't again like this is the second week where I don't think we saw that from Georgia where it's like cool like they didn't put anything on tape Georgia's two and 0 probably the best team in the country besides I might be a buckeye guy throwing that out there I might be a buckeye guy but um they you know they're the second best team in the country or excuse me the best team in the country right now and they're rolling along but Trends matter right yeah like if you and I get on here and we do these Recaps every week and we and you know what I mean like we decide oh let's take this week off because it's Georgia Tennessee Tech and like let's mail it in well that carries over when Georgia plays b or you know what I mean so at a certain point you got one week before you play Bama when do you kick it into gear because if you're trying to kick it into gear against Bama now granted Bama's playing a very rough game against South Florida at the moment um but if you're trying to if you're trying to kick it into gear against B you might be punched in the mouth before you wake up that's that's a good Point that's a good point the good news is that Georgia has one game in between now and Bama at Kentucky um you may notice Georgia fans I'm wearing a South Carolina Jersey South Carolina Alum the Kentucky game got a lot easier thanks to my Gamecocks I think Expos a lot of things with Kentucky I think that might be a good ramp up game for Georgia honestly where we know Kentucky has no offense right so you you get some more Reps for your offense defense should handle business there but I I I think your point is well taken I don't know if the depth is there from past teams like if you're comparing Georgia to the championship Georgia teams like they're they're two deep and three deep are all in the NFL now I don't think this Georgia's two deep is all going to be in the NFL the starters are are are going to be there but I don't know if those if those guys behind them are going to right and then that may be a difference that it may not matter when it comes down to it but you're not seeing the overwhelming dominance that's beating TCU by 85 in the national championship game you know what I mean no I mean Gunner stock in the backup very serviceable by the way 10 of 12 90 yards but like he didn't do anything that I was like oh this guy's next up right like like 90% of the way we feel about Carson Beck is from the games that setson Bennett was blowing teams out and he came in right and were like whoa look at this kid this is the next great Georgia quarterback Vander Griff didn't get that moment he's at Kentucky now he's got he's about to get beat down next week he's about get next week oh yeah oh yeah but like Gunner stocked and like he you know he he came in and it's like cool like I guess but there was nothing that like I was like wow like he's the X-ray quarterback and you know Nate Frasier even took a step back from the Clinton game in my opinion um which now granted I mean you know anything would have been a step back probably but like this was kind of extreme and like you know the receivers don't create as much separation as they did in the previous years now that that might be a game plan thing you know what I mean and that could very easily be flip like a flip of a switch right so I don't want to you know go too far into that but you know those are just some things I noticed with the team um and and now to be fair as well we're clearly nitpicking so Georgia fan right your team is phenomenal we're nitpicking your second and third string quarterback and running back man like your team is phenomenal no one's trying to take anything away from them but when we discuss a championship the most minor of details are what separates you yeah I I will say I think Kirby Smart and this coaching staff should get the benefit of the doubt yes given given their track record um but fair to say you would have liked to have seen more in this game from Georgia I think uh the Kentucky game as great of a ramp up as it is um it does less for me now as a ramp up because of what South Carolina showed versus the Tennessee Tech you can just beat them down 70 to3 and I'm like cool like that's what you're supposed to do now like after what South Carolina did to Kentucky in Kentucky you don't have a choice but to win by 50 or else I'm like well hey what are we talking about you know what I mean yeah yeah we we'll be back with a preview
