Alabama vs. South Florida Game Recap - College Football Week 2

that wasn't the most convincing 42-6 victory that there has ever been among 42-6 victories Alabama will take it though that was the final score of the victory over South Florida um the game was 14- 13 for quite some time Crimson Tide only LED 21-6 with uh about halfway through the fourth quarter early in the fourth quarter that was when the game flipped though that point on South Florida kick the field goal to go on 16 to 21 with uh about 10 minutes left or sorry excuse me about six and a half 645 left in the fourth quarter from that point on Bama scored two touchdowns excuse me three touchdowns put the game away uh 28 points in fourth quarter for Crim for the Crimson tied are you more impressed with the late push that Bama like the extra gear they hit to put this game away or you more concerned with the first 55 minutes of the game where South Florida was with Alabama stri for stride I would say I'm more impressed by that push like they had a ton of penalties Bama had the self-inflicted wounds and they had a lot of penalties in the first half last week too uh against Western Kentucky and I think the final score made it so it wasn't even a talking point for us but really in the first quarter if I'm not mistaken they might have they might have had seven or eight penalties maybe it was in the whole first half last week so it's it's something that you still want to get cleaned up and it's honestly you don't want to become a trend because you know that's kind of The Telltale sign of a poorly coached team is if they can't get out of their own way and I don't think that at all I don't think that's going to be true of Bama it's fair to maybe question the drop off from Sab to dor but yeah we talked about this last week we talked about in the previe in the recap especially the recap after they just went up and put 60 points on it's like you know this Bama team have been a little bit slept on for being Alabama and for having a coach that was in the national championship less than a calendar year ago um I think yeah so that that's that's the one thing I would say is a slight concern I think they get it cleaned up though I don't know where are you at on it I am probably slightly more impressed with the close than I'm concerned with the beginning but I think both things tell the story right the close showed how explosive Alabama is and how good of playmakers that this team has like how special they can be shows the ceiling of a team that can compete and win a National Championship right the first 50 minutes of the game full of penalties Alabama committed 13 on the game they lost three fumbles they were sloppy with the ball like everything was sloppy and that allowed South Florida to really stick around it was more B letting South Florida stick around than anything USF was doing to really stay in the game they South Florida scored the opening drive after that they kind of didn't do anything you they able to move the ball a little bit but weren't able to necessarily capitalize on it give Bama credit for that give them credit for the way they pulled away at the end but not the not the like dominant performance I was hoping for from Alabama like if you're if you're an Alabama fan I think you leave feeling good saying like okay all right but I don't know if I feel more confident in them than I did coming into this game if anything I may maybe feel a little bit more shaky I think that's a fair assessment because we again one thing we hinted hit on in the previews was looking for Bama to make that statement early to say hey we know what almost happened last year milro got benched like looked for him to kind of assert his presence early and he finished with the pretty good stat line two or four total touchdowns only two yards of rushing of course I know they account sacks for that which probably uh tells you why it was so low but yeah it didn't the reason why I said like I'm not all that concerned though is like if you if you go back and look at the Highlight some of the splash plays were still there where you had these skill position guys making plays getting the ball down the field it just always ended up I mean there were the fumbles and the penalties that kept them from capitalizing early on and again in my opinion those are things that I expect to Bard to correct because I believe he's a good coach I don't think that penalties are going to be an issue all year for the team it's it's just you got to curb it like now next week against Wisconsin a very very mid Wisconsin teams to put to put it nicely who sort of scraped by South Dakota earlier today uh yeah you kind of got to get an end to that next week if you look at the box score Alabama outgained USF by nearly 100 yards had a a fine completion percentage averaged little less than five yards a carry held USF to two of 18 on third down conversions all things that indicate a pretty comfortable win which has ended up being right but indicate a pretty comfortable win where you may have been in control let you look at the three turnovers and the 13 penalties and I think that's why it was still a game in the fourth quarter like there are reasons you can point to for Alabama and say this final score is indicative of how we controlled the game if anything it could have been worse right and you and they got gave up three sacks as well which you could sort of say down Kaden Proctor as well like there's yeah there's storylines that yeah you say if you you you look at some of the things in the box score that tell the tale of the game for why it was so close for so long um at the same at the same time though like USF goes for it on Fourth and three or whatever it was inside their own 30 instead of kicking a field goal to go down 2116 maybe we're having a different conversation about this game right you know maybe it's it's a one- score game maybe South Florida hangs on pulls off the upset but they they kind of that decision to me changed the game like that that was USF conceding defeat and obviously Bama scored you know three times in six plays after that um but that that to me flipped it I I I do wonder if the Bulls went for it what the outcome would have been yeah especially because when you have a quarterback like Barron Brown we talked about this in the preview with you want to make him a passer when Bama did that they were successful finished with 103 passing yards but also pass the century mark making stuff happen with his legs and I I kind of like the I like a coach who will be aggressive in that situation on fourth down yeah because when you have a rushing threat like that with the the size and athleticism combination that brown has that's just going to give you it's a built-in advantage that you got to take advantage of in that situation especially excuse me I should say built an advantage that you got to capitalize on in that situation especially as a road Underdog when you have nothing to lose look B you don't beat Bama in Tuscaloosa by kicking field goals doesn't happen it doesn't matter who the coach is it doesn't matter if it's you and you or I and I know you're nice at college football 25 so I trust you over me that situation but yeah it doesn't matter who's the coach if you're kicking field goals in Bryant Denny you're not going to win you you mentioned that Bam um Bama has Wisconsin on deck in Madison next weekend then they have a they have a byee after that and then Georgia is on Deck like this is this is a pretty defining two game stretch in the next three weeks for Georgia or for Bama excuse me culminating with Georgia what did you see from this game that gives you um more confidence in Bama's ability to handle those teams moving forward or what potentially has you concerned about their ability let's let's focus on Madison because Georgia can beat Bama when B's playing awesome that's how good Georgia is right right but what what may give you some concern against Wisconsin I don't think I don't have any concern I was I was going to try to come up with something to be concerned about I think this Wisconsin team sucks I think Bama skill position guys are really good Byron Brown would probably be the best quarterback Wisconsin's had since Russell Wilson and I don't think that defense is going to struggle much in Madison and like you mentioned the explosion the explosive plays that's what I'm most encouraged by is like jam Miller Justin Hayes both those dudes can break off long runs Ryan Williams is awesome that kid is already a stud like that that breakaway touchdown the acceleration as soon as he caught the ball man he shed the T like the dude's 170 lbs and he's shedding tackles from 17 a 17year old dude like he's not legal yet he's so fun to watch he's absolutely electric um I think Jer Jeremy Bernard he's starting to get on the same page as milro as well you know going into the year that was a question of you're Losing Isaiah Bond you're losing Germaine Burton you don't have the John mes and Henry rugs and Jerry judies and Devonte Smiths of the world that are immediately loading um it's looking like they aren't going to miss a beat and I still I'm a still a huge milro believer so yeah I I was trying to come up with something to say oh maybe Wisconsin can exploit them here like Wisconsin runs an Air Raid Offense and they scored 27 points against South Dakota that's that's not what an air raid supposed to do against FCS teams I don't think B's gonna struggle even if it's on the road the only way I think Bama struggles is if they continue struggling with penalties and turnovers right like like that's that's the main thing Wisconsin is not going to beat them against Georgia you can't do those things you have to have the explosive plays without any of the negative stuff right so that that's kind of what I want to see from Alabama moving forward against wiconsin and then and then then
