Michigan State vs. FAU Game Preview and Prediction - College Football Week 1

Michigan state gets their football season underway against Florida Atlantic in Spartan Stadium Friday night week one looking forward to this uh Spartan dogs wolf woof you're an all green today C you're setting the tone I like it who who's Michigan State play Florida Atlantic who are you doing an owl joke I am doing an owl joke that's not great not what I expected from you to start the season for Michigan State football as an owl joke I mean we're playing the owls you expect me not to make one ow joke I mean I understood but uh I mean are we going to do like a how many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a bowl game is that the goal this season that was my backup but it's good to know that we're still in a lock step but yeah this is this is the first game of the Jonathan Smith era the Aiden Charles era uh a home game against FAU a team that coming into last season like I I had FAU on a short list of like teams like oh this team could be like fun right like they got a lot of fun players fun like offense quarterback uh I believe it was the first season under Herman who was the for former Houston coach I used to be a Houston football offici andado back in the day uh they were a fun team to bet on and watch um and it was a little bit I guess underwhelming for FAU as a as a team um I think they lost they stumbled towards the end of last season they lost like I think they went on like a four game losing streak uh and they're ended up replacing 41 players from last year's team including their QB and their star wide receiver who they lost to the portal I believe the star wide receiver went to Colorado so lot of turnover lot of like if you look in the FAU football channels a lot of guys expecting you know this is they they they think last season was a disappointment for Herman and this team and they're looking for them to make you know make more of a splash this year especially having an easier schedule uh compared to last season yeah okay uh Tom Herman looking to make a splash Tom Herman is a good football coach but I don't think there's a lot to like on this Florida Atlantic team uh I'm not going to try and drum up overly too much push back on Michigan State getting a win here now I most of my questions for Michigan State in this game are Michigan State Centric like just is Aiden Charles ready uh who is the answer at running back we know it's like a two-headed monster in theory that's sort of the goal of the backfield is like to split carries but I think we've heard that in the past for Michigan State and then you show up game one and somebody's a bcow I I wouldn't be shocked if that happens here whether that is Nathan Carter or the transfer like to me it could be either um the the biggest thing for me is just how good is Aiden childes right away and how does Jonathan Smith want to use him because he did get chances last year but it was DJ J wag's team and he is bad that guy he's bad right and it was still his team and I think even if Aiden Charles was going to take over and we all knew that it was kind of like he got like a cute little package every game it wasn't run the show like do you expect Jonathan Smith to come in and like obviously the keys are in aent child's hands but are we going to try to work him in slowly to being a starter quarterback or is it like the wheels are off let's oh so I think that the initial plan is going to be to bring him and work him along slow because I mean given even you know the hype around him he's a captain all that this that and the third like he's also like an 18yearold basically freshman quarterback in his first real game like there is going to be I think a little bit there now if he comes out just has a special performance and then Co coach Smith gonna be all right well that that whole like bring him along slowly thing was kind of cute this guy is just that he's that Dynamic let's just kind of let the reins off of him but I do think that there's going to be a a a very conscious effort to not just throw him to the fire I guess now the one thing that I think might make that difficult not to do though is that like just to State quite simply this FAU defense is terrible like they're bad they gave up 400 they gave up 400 yards a game last season now they replaced a lot of those guys but at the same time they gave up 400 yards a game last year so like you know if I could pick a defense for Aiden Charles and this running game to go up against to maybe get their feet wet and get feeling good about themselves this FAU defense is one that I think I would pick is John Jacob gonna be in attendance for this game no are we sure why would John Jacob be in East L I don't know just like to show support for his athletic department I just like if he's going to be here I need to know about it so like make it about himself like yeah yeah I made my way to East laning to support my my owls right make it all about him for sure um okay uh first off cheers to the Jonathan Smith era it's so nice to not have a sexual deviant as our head coach I'm looking forward to this in honor of Jonathan Smith and his era beginning I uh have done what I think he would appreciate as the most acceptable way to honor Jonathan Smith to his liking I am drinking an intentional lukewarm coffee this morning it's just the right amount of cold and it's just the right amount of hot it's just perfectly average it's perfectly fine I know Jonathan Smith is a big perfectly average guy he loves just very normal things he loves things that are just you know just a little too oops oops coffee was just two degrees too hot for my liking sweetie oops like H how was your day coach at PR oops I actually I I stepped on the line by accident oops uh Jonathan Smith is going to have a perfectly fine season and perfectly fine is going to be great we're all going to pretend we love perfectly fine this year uh with that said I I think there's something with this team that I like and it is mostly truly Aiden Charles like I I think Aiden Charles is going to be awesome I think he's going to be the best quarterback that Michigan state has seen since Conor cook uh and that alone is enough to get very very excited about this team in this season because you have this very Dynamic guy who should pair well with the Run game and they should able to do a lot of things they didn't do last year I know you know this and we danced around it all season long it's really hard to win games when you have a bad quarterback and no matter how good other things are around you or bad whatever like if you have a guy who just can't do quarterback things at quarterback you struggle and Michigan State had a bunch of quarterbacks that couldn't quarterback last year to me they have a quarterback who can quarterback and it's obviously about more than that down the road when they play better teams they're going to need to have answers in the trenches they're going to need to have defensively it remains to be seen if that will be true for Michigan State but in this game against a bad Florida Atlantic Team all you need is your quarterback to be a dude in my opinion and Michigan State should be able to roll and Aiden Charles looked at people in the eyes and said bet the over he got my attention I think I'm ready to bet the over we'll talk about that at the end of this video but I'm in some quick notes on Florida Atlantic for me uh their last win versus a power conference opponent came in 2007 so this is not just like a bad football te team this a bad football program they played Illinois last year Illinois was a very bad football team and it was Illinois's most decisive win of the season so now it was only a one- score game Florida Atlanta did kind of play with Illinois but uh not great the last time Florida Atlantic played Michigan State 2011 44 to nothing Michigan State won that game now completely different football program at that point so not saying I expect a 44 to zero blanking here but I do think Michigan State can win this one handily Florida Atlantic's quarterback Cam fanter he's in from Marshall didn't love Marshall last year shout out Marshall and uh Charles Huff another Michigan State candidate for about two and a half weeks before everyone realized Marshall was getting blown out every single week last year uh I was unimpressed with fer he finished the season with 11 interceptions to 11 touchdowns they did go to a blll game where they lost but like to me if that's your guy you're bringing in to be the guy the best case scenario is like a six and six season in the American like he's just not a guy I would want to commit to to be the guy and uh they they lost their leading rusher they've got a Florida State transfer in that kind of perks my ears up a little bit CJ Campbell but like he hasn't done anything in his career yet he just wore a a Florida State helmet at one point so I don't know I from going through through this personnel-wise there is not much on Florida Atlantic that inspires confidence to me spread being 13 and a half where do you land on that that's a key number we love key numbers in football just under the two touchdown number it it does it does I do like the key number but I did this funny thing that I sometimes do uh with football games um I closed my eyes and I was like what does this game look like at the end right and for some reason I can't explain why Gregory why do I feel like it ends 28 to 18 that's just the vision that's what we saw like like I don't know this this has just all the makings of a 28 to 18 Victory and I can't tell you why I really can't but the the the the main point of this game though is I want to see stuff from Michigan State because you brought this up and this is something I think is very important for Michigan States just this season like not even looking forward if you want to like do the thing where you football games you're not supposed to win it's because you got guys that are just that Dynamic and that level of Playmakers and if it happens at the quarterback position like that can win you football games if your quarterback is that Dynamic and I think Aiden childes can be that Dynamic so it it's G to be interesting to see obviously I don't know if FAU no I know for a fact fa is not the the barometer that we want to use for that but if aen is dynamic as I think he is he should find his way to have some a lot of success in this game yeah it's a defense that allows for dynamic plays if you're a dynamic player and I I think Aiden childes is going to be able to do that in this game uh but it is like do you have do you have any level of nerves on like what if he's not because it is kind of one of those things where you spend all offseason like this guy's the guy it's so exciting it's fun and we have had this happen before both good and bad where you show up and just what you expect is not what you get so it there is a little bit there but at the same time I have tempered my expectations a little bit with him like I'm willing to give him some time yeah because we got time like I'm willing to give him time yeah that's fair okay um looking through their results last year florid Atlantic again it's completely new team so this doesn't mean everything I know Michigan State fans love looking at Old results from games that have happened from teams that have had different players come in and out so I thought I would provide some context on that one uh Florida Atlantic blown out by Clemson last year 48 to4 they lost to UTSA at home 36-10 they lost to Tain who was a good football team last year 24 to8 at home and then they lost to East Carolina also at home 22 to7 so they they had plenty of games basically a third of their schedule where things just got out of hand and they couldn't score and they couldn't stop the other team that's what I'm expecting to happen in this game um I'll give my prediction I think Michigan State wins this one by three scores I think they cover relatively comfortably it may be a little like slow adjustment first quarter maybe first couple drives let's I don't know but I don't think Florida Atlanta can score in this game and I know Michigan State's defense has all new faces but um I just I don't trust their quarterback at all I think they've got new guys everywhere and I think Michigan State's new guys are more talented at pretty much much every single position so while you know while this is new anytime you're bringing in a quarterback and a coach like there's going to be a little feel of this that like you know it's it's not starting from scratch it's starting with some pieces Oregon state was developing and I think that's going to be ahead of wherever Florida Atlantic is so if Michigan State doesn't cover in this game I would be surprise it's not my strongest play of the week but I will be betting Michigan State minus 13 and a half in my bookie yes this will be a Carter Elliot stay away that is so unlike you it is but like I was so upset at myself when I closed my eyes and I saw 2818 on the scoreboard Greg it was clear it was like really clear like like I it it like I started squinting as I had my eyes I was like oh man 2818 like that's all I could see should we bet 288 exact score if it's available yeah how does Florida Atlanta get to 18 Greg I
