Colorado vs. Nebraska Game Recap - College Football Week 2

what was supposed to be the most exciting game of the evening on Saturday night in week two was one of the most boring games of my entire college football viewing experience in life's history that's not to say it wasn't impressive Nebraska fans congratulations your team looked incredible uh the first half was utterly dominant Nebraska jumps out to a 28 to nothing lead uh from there that's why I'm saying this game was boring I thought Nebraska essentially stopped playing football for the final 30 minutes they didn't score in the second half Colorado actually wins the second half 10 to nothing but uh in a game that kind of just became a defensive I I don't know it was controlled by Nebraska's defense very clearly I don't think anybody cared about trying to score the football in the second half Colorado wanted this to be over and Nebraska just wanted to get out healthy the end result is a boring 28-10 Nebraska win but nonetheless a very impressive Nebraska win I think this team probably deserves to be ranked sooner rather than later and uh there's not many teams that will jump out and shut out Colorado and shador Sanders in first 30 minutes of a football game so Dion we uh were on record we thought Colorado would cover in this game we thought Colorado might win this game we also are trying to be bandwagon riola fans so I don't know where we stand with that anymore where does your heart sit after watching this one riola is us you know like as we continue to do these previews and Recaps people are going to learn about about us yeah and r is us and we got away from us it's early in the season um in NFL quote people say it's preseason for us too it is very much so still week two for G and I um Rola is yeah Rola is us and shadur is not us we're back against the wall guys like put the pressure on us we figure it out that's what riola did yesterday shur didn't do that at all in my opinion um they got punched in the mouth and then I don't feel this way about the whole Colorado team but I will say you go as your quarterback goes and in my opinion mentally you don't know what shadar is going to do until they're losing and you might get that guy from col the Colorado State game where he had that like dog in him what did he say like the Brady mentality with the shades on or you might get the guy that goes to the locker room with two minutes left in the game proceeds to call out his offensive line and his running back in the post game press conference and that's the guy I wouldn't want to play with of course not yeah um there's been much correctly made about the state of Deion Sanders program the the storylines all offseason were chaos um coaches being fired fights in the locker room just all around really bad things and I think we were willing to not ignore it I think we knew where this was headed but we were at least willing to be like well maybe that doesn't matter when the lights come out on Saturday if Travis Hunter and shador Sanders are throwing the ball to each other um it matters it matters now because I think last year I mentioned it in the first half of the season it's like everyone in the locker room didn't know if Deion Sanders stick for lack of a better word was real like I I am a football fan you see me in a lions Jersey right now my coach is a stick guy right now also as I've come to know him it's not actually sticky it's real sub but in essence what he does and how he speaks is a giant shtick and I think there is a lot of that with Dion where last year at this time they were winning games they had beaten TCU they had beaten Nebraska he was on the covers he was the the talk of sports center every night because it was not just fun it was also holy [ __ ] it's real like he might go to the college football playoff he might be this Transcendent leader and then the wheels fell off Midway through the season when everybody realized they're not they're not a good football team and it's not going to happen this year's team did not have the luxury of coming into the season with the unknowns everybody in that locker room I think to their core knew that this football team's not very good and it's kind of just out to get some individual guys some numbers and the problems are actually going to mount and get worse and I think you saw it there was a moment in this game and it was right after shor's pick six right it's seven to nothing Nebraska pins him at the one yard line and you and I were texting about this this is going to be disaster they come out in shotgun shador makes a throw to the out to the flat and it's just caught it was covered there was nothing there instantly it's 14 nothing and I'm on body language alert I'm looking like what is everybody doing because last year in week two had this happened shador would have brought everybody in and said we're here that didn't happen in this one this was heads down this was everyone in opposite directions this was shadur and Dion in their own little world and everybody else sitting back like not this [ __ ] again I think this Locker Room's clearly been rotten to its core from the jump and uh they didn't lose this game because of the chemistry or the locker room or the leadership they lost this game because they don't have a run game they have a horrible offensive line they don't have a defense but I don't think we're going to see an as competitive Colorado team this year as we did last year like they lost close games last year that's not happening this year I think we're going to see blowout losses where the wheels fall off so I I think I'm getting close to turning on Prime uh you know I've been a prime guy for the last really since he got the Jackson State and I'm getting really close to turning on him the I'm gonna present the argument for why I won um he's a stick guy too and I don't think it's to his core but I I'm turning on Shad like wholeheart okay okay I think he's fragile I think he's a front runner I think mentally he doesn't have it in him to be a great quarterback and that's what I saw yesterday and I think this Dion Sanders stick that he's created at Colorado is to uplift his quarterback and make his quarterback believe he's something that he isn't and that's I hinted at that in the preview when I said rayola that aura is everything shadar wants and it's not because shadar can't have it it's because in his heart he doesn't have it so it's manufactured and when you manufacture an aura when you get punched in the mouth you quit and we've seen shadar do that time and time and time again with the one exception being the Colorado State game sunglasses Brady moment right but like what we saw on Saturday isn't the first time that's happened Washington State I remember that game I think I believe he got hurt in that game they never released what the injury was the reason behind doing that isn't because he wasn't seriously hurt it puts a timetable on it shadur wasn't gonna play a game that didn't matter because mentally he doesn't have that in him to just go win a game because it m like for no reason um so I'm out on shadur I still think Prime goes to Florida State that's his Alma moer I think it's I still think it makes sense I don't think Prime wants to win games 4340 he's the greatest defensive player we've ever seen he wants to run the ball he wants to have a great offensive line and he wants to play defense his son won't let him do that there's one other person that his son's ruining it's Travis Hunter G Prime's not going to Florida State alone Trout's going with it I don't how could that happen he's gonna be a top five pick right I don't know I don't know because and the reason I don't know is because I think the position Travis Hunter wants to play right like you both of us NFL gu like you're a lions fan I'm a ners fan both our receivers signed what like a 30 30 million dollar deal this year highest paid corner Jaylen Ramsey 24 million per year NFL Scouts have said that NFL teams you Travis as a DB before a receiver is Trav gonna want to play DB when there's 10 plus million dollar difference and how much you can make per year I don't think so I don't think so so Trav goes to Florida State for an extra year doesn't play defense just plays receiver for a year I I still think he plays defense because I do think I do want to say this I think he's a phenomenal DB that's gonna present himself as a two-way player but like Dion when we view Deion Sanders as like a quote unquote two-way player he was viewed as a DB that also played receiver I think trav's future is your receiver who on third down plays nickel yeah okay interesting all right well it will remain to be seen if you're correct you are no uh no shortage of Dion Sanders theories week to week I'm excited to watch these evolve as this continues does Florida State even want Dion at this point though so the reason I think they do is and there there was a moment where I texted you I was like I don't think I factored in the idea of Florida State just not wanting Dion Sanders um but the reason I think they do is it's not as simp simple anymore right with nil as uh your coaches fun people want to play for him if Deion Sanders went to Colorado in 2014 I genuinely believe he could recruit the best recruiting class have the best team in the country because it's just would you rather play for Deion Sanders or Nick Sav that's a pretty easy choice for nine out of 10 collegiate athletes um but now with nil it's not that simple so I think Florida State's probably going to look at it like we have the money we need the guy that can sell the people on taking the money and norell isn't that guy yeah yeah makes sense that makes sense um okay we we'll we'll watch let's keep one eye on Florida State maybe zero eyes on Colorado I don't want to keep watching Colorado this year but we'll see um so I mean we've spent over half the recap without barely discussing Nebraska other saying other than saying it was really impressive but um couple guys to call out obviously RI is good and fun his numbers were not even as good as I think they could have been he missed a couple big throws he missed the the running back wheel route in the second quarter that if that just drops in it's I mean a totally diff not a different game but different numbers for him uh Dowell the running back was awesome 74 yards 17 uh carries two touchdowns I thought he was just sort of a Workhorse and when you get near the goal line you can really trust him he'll run through contact but pretty complete performance from Nebraska offensively they were successful both running and throwing and obviously against Colorado's defense it's not that hard to run the football uh on the defensive side of things though they shut this [ __ ] down quick man like there there are some games with Colorado where even if you have a good defense you can get beat like Travis Hunter's that good shador does have an arm and this was not that this was a suffocating performance there was pressure on shador every single play honestly Travis Hunter ends up with 10 carries and0 yards but he had to work for it man like a lot of those were coming underneath when they were playing Just prevent so I don't know I have not been as impressed by a defense against Colorado in these two years they've had shador and Travis as this Nebraska one do you think that's a fair read yeah I thought um like like when I say I don't think Deion Sanders wants to play football the way he does is at Colorado I think he wants to play football the way Nebraska did where it's like we're gonna dominate you up front and then my quarterback's going to hit one or two throws that he has to make my running back's going to dominate the game you won't really see the ball um I thought Nebraska's defense dominated this game I thought their offensive line dominated this game man like Dowell wasn't getting I I know say it says 17 carries 74 yards it felt like he had 300 yards rushing to me like when you're watching that game he wasn't getting touched for six or seven yards he was getting into the secondary leaping over people running people over he was electric the whole time I was like how did Oregon let this guy go like he looks phenomenal um I thought rayola looked uh pretty good uh the reason I say I said in the beginning he's us is I didn't think he looked like that good and he comes out a superstar um his biggest throw off the back foot to the receiver um that should have been picked there was two DBS there it was completely underthrown terrible throw and then the very next drive he threw one into the Colorado linebacker hands somehow wound up being a touchdown um some sometimes it's not your day I I didn't really think it was Colorado's day but it wasn't Colorado's day because they got punched in the mouth early and often yeah yeah I agree um man I I think we're obligated if we want to fully be on the Rola bandwagon then we're not allowed to do what we're doing because there's a lot of people out there who are just like this guy rocks he's momes watch him he's fun Nebraska's back and I think all that's true like the Poise the aura the leadership all that stuff matters and Rola has it in Spades it will never not be funny to me watching him impersonate momes like even the stuff does on the sidelines man and then he's going to tell people like oh I I don't know I'm not trying to do that but he definitely is like and there's nothing wrong with that like Mahomes is the greatest quarterback ever and the most fun guy ever so if you can mimic him every single time when you brush your teeth brush your teeth like Mahomes I don't care but it's just funny to watch and um I I guess the one bit of skepticism I just do want to say on Rola this could have been a lot worse than it was like I think Nebraska could have won this game 56 to 10 and it wasn't I mean straight up Nebraska did not score in the second half and am I concerned about that in essence no because they just wanted to get out of their healthy whatever but also as you mentioned he had at least two balls that should have been picked that bounced the right way like there were moments in this game where riola was missing things that kept Colorado in the game and if the Domino just fell the other way all a sudden maybe we're talking about a different and I don't care how you cut it obviously 28 to nothing at halftime that's what matters and r was a huge part of it but if you get outscored 10 to zero by Colorado in the second half P Mahomes ain't ever letting that happen I'm telling you that so riola is still I'm in a not a wait and see mode I'm in on him I think Nebraska's gonna basically have huge success as a program while he's here but this was an uninspiring performance from him to me as great as the defense was as good as Dowell was I would have liked more from riola with his arm and with his reads like that one into the linebacker was was awful no I mean we we said it in the preview shadur Sanders is the better quarterback I didn't leave feeling differently on that like I do think he's the better quarterback but mentally in my locker room give me rayola every day of the week and it's not really close and I think rayola kind of proved that from both ends of the spectrum like the way he rallied his guys like on the Dowell touchdown man he was in the back of the endzone celebrating with the fans before Dowell got into the endzone like that's the guy I want he's getting this crowd into the game he's making sure like this other team doesn't stand a chance shadur had his head down like it it was just two completely different individuals in my opinion um but he didn't play great but that's kind of the pat Mahomes Aura though G like like I think Pat Mahomes sneaky has bad games sneaky makes bad throws that don't wind up being picked sneaky has like oh I'm gonna throw this off my back foot and everyone's gonna lose their mind but really that was like a bad throw that you know like Kelsey or rasid rice or um in this case what is that kid's name uh ramir Johnson catch you know what I mean like so I I think like he kind of played into it like I can play bad and I can still leave being the headline yeah I like that a lot I think uh and if you go through mahomes's whole career the games where he's just straight up bad are games like this where it doesn't matter like it's the middle of week seven in the season and you just know the Chiefs are 14-point favorites like he got up 28 at nothing I think he took his foot off the gas and that's probably fine I want to see Rola in a game that is really competitive like I'd love to see him what does he do with two minutes left down three and you got to go 75 yards and I'm sure we'll see that at some point this year but uh bottom line is this quarterback is probably unlike every other position in all of sports where the belief that if you just have a guy people are hopeful for it can change your entire program because of what what it does to the fan base what it does to the defense like just everybody if they have a guy they believe in will pick themselves up and it will rewrite the entire program's history it'll rewrite the environment like this was a night game a Prime Time game and I thought that was as packed as I've seen Nebraska stadium look I thought it had juice I knew a couple people in the stadium that were texting me like this feels like an SEC game day like I I just am in and I know Nebraska has a storied history but in the 20 years that I've been following Big 10 football we haven't seen a lot of this riol is a huge part of this like if they had Jeff Sims at quarterback still I don't think we're seeing this even with how good the defense is and it was impressive to me I'm taking Nebraska seriously as a big 10 Contender man like I know Ohio State's out there they're great I think Oregon is very vulnerable and nobody wants to talk about it and I think Nebraska man if you go further down this list I'd put them right in there with Penn State as far as teams that you could see in the Big 10 championship game yeah I think Nebraska is very good I mean they're returning a lot of their defense that was kind of the whole pre pregame thing and you said it as well when you return that good of a defense and then you add the quarterback it typically like is going to show this level of success I will say this part of that crowd is the prime effect that's why Prime's always going to have the opportunity to coach college football um a lot of that was rayola but it was the fact that it was rayola versus Prime yeah so I I I think that that that crowd was phenomenal man from start to finish and then Nebraska's gonna it's not just this year if I'm a big 10 team I'm looking at Nebraska for as long as ra is there the next couple years like I don't I don't necessarily want to have to go to Lincoln yeah um they shouldn't lose at home this year not to spoil things but they go Northern Iowa Illinois Ruckers UCLA Wisconsin at home you should win all five of those games so you're going to have some big time opportunities they got to go at Ohio State at USC at Iowa those are probably the three big ones but to me if you go at worst one and two in those three maybe two and one you're looking at a team that's right there with a chance to qualify for the playoff and that's got to be music to Nebraska fans years at this point so congrats Corin Huskers uh congrats to Dylan Rola po one out man I you can probably sense a little sadness in our tone with this I think it's because you and I deep down know that we're we're done with Colorado and it was a great 14 weeks of this it was fun it was fun and then you know is but G like on the flip side is is Nebraska the new Colorado do we get to just TR do we get to just do we get to hit the portal and just have fun so I gotta have a
