Marcus Stroman gets SHELLED in Yankees LOSS | Gleyber Torres BENCHED

welcome back folks this is Yankees unloaded I'm Jake elleno and he is Gary Sheffield Jr and unfortunately the five-game uh winning streak that was fun while it lasted the Yankees fell 8 to5 as uh victims to Toronto and uh essentially their wrath on um Marcus strowman which isn't really saying a lot because Gary you have plenty of stats and plenty of things to talk about in regards to Marcus strowman today including something that you brought up even before the season started so uh we're I don't want to say looking forward to Throwing Fire at Marcus strowman but looking forward to at least adding some shedding some light on the whole situation because it's not just oh yeah he's he's pitching poorly there might be more than meets the eye um and in addition that we're going to get to glaber so don't you guys worry we know that glaber is going to be the Hot Topic there but strowman he's also a pretty big Hot Topic Gary how you doing my guy I'm doing good overall but I'll tell you this at the for those of you who weren't paying attention to our show and this is probably over a month ago so just to be fair to our audience I mentioned about Marcus strowman and when people ask us what do you expect from Marcus strowman what do you expect from Carlos rodon and a lot of people have super negative expectations but they don't necessarily back those expectations with numbers and I think the back of your baseball card actually can be helpful in terms of determining what you're going to be and Marcus strowman and I said this from the beginning he'll be a very good first half pitcher for the New York Yankees but Jake what did I say about Innings a lot of times when people say what's the difference between a Corbin Burns a Garrett Cole right not just talent but how deep into games they go how deep into Seasons they go while maintaining their output Marcus strowman's not one of those guys part of the reason Marcus strowman never received any of those seven eight nyear contracts that a lot of pitchers especially in today's game they get the reason he didn't get that if you look at the back of his baseball card Jake you'll see a lot of 135 Innings 125 Innings 120 136 and Jake when you look at Marcus strowman this season right now got his stats right in front of me he's thrown 116 Innings he's getting close to that Mark do you know Jake Marcus strowman over his last seven games pitched he has an erra of 682 this is a player who you mention to me has the worst fit of any pitcher in the league in the league of late okay which is not feline infectious peritonitis no how do you describe that stat again it's Fielding independent pitching which is essentially despite how your defense is we're going to essentially nullify the defense and try and describe how you pitch on your own not you're not gonna have Matt Chapman or Anthony vulpi or having Al Jose Altuve at second base who can potentially save runs for you we're g to try and say what type of pitcher are you without the defense we're gonna calculate how hard a contact you give up where that contact goes whether it's in the air they try and figure out all these things and that's where you get FIP but Marcus strowman tends to be a very solid first half pitcher in this and he's also a really good big game pitcher but the problem is Jake we need to get to the big game first that's the issue and I will say this how many people who watch this show feel confident with Marcus strowman on the mound right now I don't know many so that's where we are right now the Yankees have Garett Cole who's G to be throwing this Sunday we don't know what version of Garrett Cole we're going to get he's clearly in tuneup mode obviously right missed his last start Carlos rodon spun a really good game it's it's literally just up in the air with this rotation it really is and then clearly with the deadline we didn't do much okay lighter Jr you add him we still have a ton of question marks and you've mentioned it's a slightly underrated group that's really been over utilized because of our starting rotation which I thought was fair Jake so my whole point here you can't have this in early like you cannot have this this is unacceptable and remember last episode we mentioned if we're going to go with a three-man rotation and I said well Garrett Cole I don't necessarily trust him in a three-man rotation he's got to be ready well you can't have guys throwing like this and expect to go out to four man who's going to be pitching who's that gonna be more than likely Cody potit is a better option for us down the stretch than this and that's saying a lot because this is a player who we had to claim this is a player that we had to go get so I guess it doesn't matter how you acquire them but when you have a veteran player on your team you'd like to believe in early August I can trust you but these guys are showing us we can't no I agree with you um I mean everything you brought up with strowman is is 100% valid and accurate I mean this is a guy that just gave up seven ear runs they scored five U the Yankees have a crazy record and I forget what it is but when they score five runs they are pretty much almost unbeatable I mean I know we say that a lot like oh yeah five runs magic number no like I looked the other day I saw it and maybe I can find it here in my notes but the Yankees when they score at least five runs are absolutely like they've won most of their games essentially like I think they've only lost 12 games when they score five runs they've they have over like 50 wins so and how impactful by the way Jake because you you bring up that a lot like you bring up the magic number of five runs because you're essentially bringing up the fact that our offense as our offense goes we tend to win and I agree with you yeah but how impactful is five wins when you have a pitcher who is a veteran guy he's been around the league yeah he's pitched six innings in his last two starts total and given up 10 runs what does it matter what the offense does like really what does it matter and trust me we're going to get to glaber we've talked about pressure on him that's for sure you need to be perfect absolutely the Yankees the past week the Yankees the past week have scored a lot of runs and it didn't really frankly matter who was pitching for the past week we were just raking and if you're going to score 10 runs you're going to win a lot of games but Jake as we know the Yankees aren't going to do that no team's gonna do that long term this just happens so our whole point here is that when you've got a guy who's thrown 116 in a third Innings this year and you'd like to say well the Yankees told us at the deadline we want guys who can miss bats right that's that's absolutely the goal we're not trying to we're not trying to get ground balls we we don't necessarily care if you're giving up fly balls Miss bats right Marcus strowman strucking out 86 players this year 86 in 116 Innings pitch we didn't expect him to strike guys out don't get me wrong here but his whip is almost one and a half guys are getting on base left and right and as you know Marcus strowman when he commits a mistake it's in the seats so why would it surprise anybody to see crooked numbers up there it shouldn't surprise any not even Marcus strowman so this is not a ripfest of Marcus strowman This Is Us illustrating exactly what the numbers say and if he wants to be covered in a different way or if Yankees fans want me to cover them in a different way because overall I think there are quite a few players who are giving us a lot right JZ Chisum being one of those guys Juan stto Aaron judge you know that's part of the group that's helping but who's not helping when I give you numbers like this when they go out there and it's one of their days how am I expecting to win and as far as I'm concerned when Marcus strowman goes out there right now it's an L yeah it's really um kind of upsetting to see this essentially what was once so dominant uh this starting rotation kind of I mean they kind of carried the the front half of the year and now you're starting to see it's really their separation here and heels kind of emerging which kind of goes back to my point about why it would be so stupid so stupid to put him in the bullpen because right now out more you can't do it he's the only one that as soon as he pitches I'm like if the Yankees continue to hit like this and it looks like this is kind of the new Yankees honestly I'm gonna be real here I do think Jazz Chism that move shook something up it it really feels like Anthony vulpi by the way I mean he's been incredible since the the All-Star break I mean really when you really think about I did it didn't really click about incredible I didn't want to go there but he has been he's been very very good and I think him batting ninth I love it because now you have a speedy guy who can when you do the wrap around at the the heart of the order now you got a speedy guy on base that can score from first or second you know whatever but you know my point here is that this offense has emerged I mean another 10 hit game you know and it just it frustrates me to no end because you know we can get it on Gaber and we'll get to that we can get on glaber for not running out what he thought was a home run there are a lot of guys by the way that do that but at the same time I agreed with Boon on that so we'll get to that but you know you can get upset with him and not scoring the run the Run didn't matter because the Yankees gave up eight runs today okay and you're not going to win many ball games when you're giving up eight runs to the Toronto Blue Jays who are below 500 after the deadline okay this is a 25 and 31 team on the road the Yankees I told you off air this is one of the worst things I've ever seen and it was kind of funny at first and now I'm kind of upset that I even know about it the Yankees are six and 16 the last 22 home games which is actually their worst stretch at home since 1917 okay I we never get into the 1917 1920 1930s but that's ridiculous and so what I want to say is that's frustrating but at the same time I also want to be real and I want to be fair to the Yankees here I do really believe they're turning a corner here I don't think that's necessarily fair to Clump in this game essentially with all of those but that is that's the reality that's what it is now I will can I bring up momentum though yeah I I think that it's fair to bring up momentum because I think after it's all settled right the dust is settled marus strowman wet the sheets today he was atrocious right and there's no other way for me to put it and after you see the final score of the game and you see 8 to five you say okay well Gaber Tores mistake didn't necessarily cost the Yankees three runs it cost them one so people would conclude okay well Gaber Torres mistake didn't really ruin the game but my answer personally is I feel it did and I'll tell you why momentum in the game of baseball when you're talking about the difference between all-time great teams really good teams decent teams and horrible teams what is the difference it's pretty marginal like I know when you're talking about the difference between the Chicago White Socks of this year and the 98 Yankees the Gap may be huge but what really separates the New York Yankees in like 2018 2019 all the way up to now in the Houston Astros what is that difference that difference is marginal and a lot of times it's between the ears when you look at today's game it was supposed to be a tie game 33 you're right what's the difference at home momentum wise when you tie the game after getting punched in the mouth early on we score and then you tie the game right what does that look like and then right after you were supposed to tie the game because it was established glaver Torres knew I was supposed to score that tying run everybody knew it right Aaron everybody now what happened the following inning Marcus strowman who is already struggling knows these guys aren't picking me up I can't pick them up so what happens we go out there and put up another crooked number the following inning the game fell over at that point because what it told me was that we're not around the corner when we talk about turning the corner everyone at the same time needs to turn the corner not in terms of performance has to be effort there's no way in early August when we're talking about a team because by the way Baltimore lost today if we had won this game today we're talking about the first place New York Yankees and I have to ask you about your effort so when we say we're turning Corners I love what's happening with Chisum I love what's happening with stto and judge and all these guys Verdugo and vulpi there's a lot of bright spots today obviously Verdugo was atrocious but overall since the break there's been a lot of bright spots for this Yankees team and I still have to ask you about effort and talking about well he only cost us one run no he cost us momentum is what he cost I agree with you I was saying in a sense you know they lost 8 to five but I totally understand but I get what you're saying and let's actually let's dive into that now um I am seeing on Twitter stop me there but I'm seeing on Twitter that people are actually mad at Aaron Boon um because okay he essentially hasn't called out Verdugo he hasn't called out DJ lahu so they're saying that he has a pick on glaber who's actually been hitting well my thing is this is already this has been out there and and here's another thing we actually just went over this earlier today off air we were just were hanging out on Discord and believe it or not folks we went through every single top prospect from 2011 to 2024 and Gaber was in the top five is he a top five player no so the point is we went over it because you know you and I were were're looking at top 10 of that just like who out of the top 10 of the the prospects in the major leagues right who ended up becoming stars because it went back to don't you just trade the prospect if he's going to be good don't you just go out and get a star and not worry about but if you really feel like he's a superstar then it's like okay because that's really the point is that you could really just sign anybody in free agency um I mean even especially being us because people think that just because this Prospect is highly rated he's going to be a superstar that is not what that means no being highly rated well we found that out the hard way today it doesn't mean everything people look at Jason Dominguez Spencer Jones right Warren they everybody who's ever been at the top of the Yankee system there have been countless names and I promise you there are people in our comment section that can name plenty more names than we can oh yeah they will tell you what would you have thought if the Yankees traded their number one Prospect every year the last decade most people would say what are you doing we're going to have left but after you pull back the hood people would say maybe maybe these guys aren't really worth what we say they're worth maybe Jason Dominguez has an opportunity Spencer Jones has an opportunity to be a great player but what are the actual odds right not everybody who's a top prospect becomes a great player you actually off air brought up jerks and profar jerks and profar is a player who this year was spectacular absolutely an utterly just perfection as a baseball player contact somewhat of a power game plays great defense he's the whole package how many years did it take him to finally make his Major Impact this was a number one Prospect in all baseball you answered it nine years it's a long time Jake but I want to Circle back by the way to glaber Torres and the whole issue really I have because you liked before we went live you actually mentioned that you were happy to see glaber Tes post game take accountability I love and having accountability is a good thing but before I kick it to you I have to say this about Gaber Torres I just don't know in a contract year if I need the accountability to occur postgame in a contract year in a win now season that everyone's told me about you need to tell me in the media that you finally understood the problem and that the problem today was you you glabber Torres has done this before this season remember yeah he did it earlier this season and what did the what did Aaron Boone tell us oh he heard his groin do you really think do you really think glaber Torres hurt his groin he didn't no I think was siding with him and he's been that way and he's been a players manager and I think today he snapped because he's like I'm getting hated on by Yankees unloaded I'm getting you know all this Flack from all these different places and I loved the way Michael cam the broadcast brought it up Aaron Bo could have gone in the clubhouse and talked to him Aaron Boon could have talked to him you know deep in the bench away from the cameras he got out on the front step he got out which is where it has to happen exactly because it it's it's a statement not just to the media not just to us not just to the fans but to the the team that makes it known like okay this is not okay and Gaber you know in the moment he has every right to complain right I mean it's it's a Heat of the Moment you want to be in the game he's trying to plead his case and you know Boon says no this is how it has to be so he puts in Oswaldo Cabrera who it's kind of you know I I mentioned this offir too you know glaver had one hit in one at bat today you could argue I mean he could have been on to like another really good game today he's been hitting well Cabrera went over for three so you could argue that might have actually hurt the Yankees but I don't even care even if it did because I think this this means more um setting this tone for the clubhouse is everything first off but I think second and it I you know you know go with me here because I understand this sounds ridiculous I mean this is a this a veteran player I shouldn't even have to say this because but glaber the point I'm making here is that I do think he's become way too comfortable there's no competition there are other players around the league that have competition there are other players around the league where if he had that error there's a guy who's just as good as him that they signed behind him I mean think about this the Rays the Rays had parades they had yandi Diaz and they had ammed Rosario okay rosar iio wouldn't even play every game like they had him waiting in the wings that's a guy we were talking about that we wanted at the deadline that could make an impact yeah but didn't also you ask me about fans and and the jokes on Twitter saying well if you're on glaber Torres why are you picking on glor TES why wouldn't you why didn't you bring this up with Alex fugo why didn't you bring this up you with another player answer is no anybody else right so for people who don't right the whataboutism who cares talk about now but think about that Jake yeah why would anyone ever ask that question why are you hard on this player and not this other player have you ever driven without with a headlight out Jake has that ever happened before I'm sure at some point okay I'm assuming most people who are watching the show today have driven with something expired plates uh a headlight out a tail light out something wrong with your car that you really know you should stop for and then all of a sudden you go through an intersection you get T-boned would you stop and check your plates now you wouldn't no would you stop and check your tail light you wouldn't just because there's an old problem doesn't mean you address it right now you address the problem that just happened that's what you address oh he he cooked with that analogy he absolutely just cooked with that an it's thank you I wanted to make sure I didn't forget what I was saying halfway through but I will say this Jake yeah you you just cannot tell me that it's acceptable you're said you know what this this other person is is committing this action now I need to turn around here and say well hold on a second before I address this let me go figure out what Verdugo is doing no the time to fix the Verdugo situation was three weeks ago when the deadline occurred and a lot of us were saying we would like to see some action on Alex Verdugo and what we do in left field we would like to see some action in the bullpen we would like to see some action with glaber Torres potentially we go get a Jonathan India we were asking about various players a couple guys right parades we're talking about guys in Tampa those answers where do people think these players where do the people think Jonathan India was going to play Gaber Torres was more than likely the guy we were telling you would be the odd man out that's not because we hate glaber Torres stop telling me about hate that's Twitter talk yeah there's no such thing as hate this is an industry of outut inut a Hate by the way there isn't it insane having a job boss is like hey Gary you know what you work from 8 to 5 it's unacceptable that you're showing up at 8:30 I go why all the hate boss what are we talking about you're not doing your job to the to what you're hired that's you're hired to do a certain job glav T's air minimum is to give us effort and then once you've given us the effort and we see that the output isn't high enough then now it's Brian cashman's job to say this player is giving his best best effort it's not enough and we'll go get it with another player but what if that player is not giving you the output and then before that as a prerequisite he's also failing at effort yeah what are we doing as a Yankees organization we have so much going right okay but we also have so much going wrong where we're not asking for the bare minimum when you walk through the door I think that's a huge indictment on leadership I've talked about this a few times but want to bring it up again today we have got to say this is unacceptable and I don't need you to tell me about it in the media August 1st or 2nd in a pennant race show it to me on the field and frankly do I think just because glaber gives effort he should now be on the field not really you need to play well and give me effort and if you're not going to give me effort well then I can't even I can't even introduce you to the starting lineup for a team team that's trying to win the World Series no I I get that I you know I'm actually kind of excited to see if this kind of Lights a fire under his ass I mean do you really think it does I don't know if it I'm actually asking no I genuinely don't know right I mean there there's nothing to tell me that but I mean this is the first time in glaber's career where he's actually been some called out this year you know benched before um I I think the fans have really gotten him more this year than ever um and so I am excited for him because I mean I get like you know listening to Michael Kay like I thought he was perfect tonight just saying all the right things about the whole glaber situation because look I mean let's be honest here he is you know he's calling the game on YES Network the Yankees Entertainment Sports Network he is not afraid to say anything I mean he'll say whatever and I love that about him and he you know he got a lot of flack for how he you know called out Joey Gallow remember that he got Flack for that he's like he's probably the worst statistically the worst 500 at bats in Yankee how do you get upset about a how do you get upset about a color commentator bringing up the numbers the when we all went and collected baseball cards I didn't have any impact on the back on the back of a Barry Bond's baseball card not once did Barry Bond strike out Walker hit a home run because Gary chevi Jr talked about it on the air no they thought it was low blow cuz he had gotten traded personally for me I loved it and I this is why I'll continue to uh I'll defend Michael K but look um he said it exactly like how you were trying to say it like with glaber I don't understand and he was saying this to Joe gerardi he's like explain to me or like you know along these lines I don't understand how Gaber in a contract year is not showing hustle like I I just he couldn't even believe it because we can't believe it either so I I felt like I was represented in the booth today just like listening to Michael Kay which is why I think he does such a great job but it's it's it's frustrating because there are guys you associate contract years with one-year wonders right that's what you do I mean typically speaking a contract year is when a guy who has never been good ever just somehow has that energy that jolt finally for the first time in his career I'm about to get paid generational wealth level money I need to be on my best game and we've seen it before I mean hate to throw shade at Hillis the running back for the Browns but he took the money and ran he was never the same again like you know what I mean there are guys like that in sports where it's just like they get paid and then you never see them again get paid first this is a business I I get it listen I totally get it Jake you're in a contract year maybe you're gonna instead of your second to last year you're not quite GNA really push it because you really want to push it that contract comp on this show by the way myus yeah no D'Angelo Russell you have said that a couple times he's 100% D'Angelo Russell and I actually think I'm starting to really believe this I think he'll be back in New York I think there's a chance they'll bring him back because I think his value is that low Gary I really do who's gonna take him the Marlins didn't even want him at the deadline the Marlins have been trying to get this guy for four years so I really am in that Bo are I'm starting to think he might actually be back next year I'm not saying I'm not guaranteeing it but I'm starting to think that he's not going to have anywhere else to go his value is going to be in the the water okay he is absolutely at this point say ikf was considered overpaid by people right he got eight million this year from Toronto and before he was shipped off to Pittsburgh right how is glaber getting any more than eight million well I guess I can answer it for you I if I had to guess what's going to happen with glaber TUS actually remember like kind of introducing this idea was like wow okay glaber Tores is last year we had this conversation the number that was floating around was aund million now we don't really care I know now everyone was like why would I give aund million do to glaber Torres we get it we know but glaber Torres based on his output last year no one would have hesitated to give a second baseman who frankly still wasn't a really good short he wasn't a good second baseman okay never was but if you're going to hit 20 some homers and drive in 80 yeah I probably can justify especially for a team who makes $250 million more than the Dodgers ridiculous money right that we're talking about so it's not our money like I know how will he's gonna squeeze us on chicken tendies but let's be clear it's not our money we don't care if glaber Torres plays his way into $100 million throw him $100 million we all clamored for DJ lameu to get paid he got paid and now it seems like the Yankees are like well we can't do what we want to do because of that money well if you look at big picture the Yankees can continue to spend clearly so my whole point here I just feel like glaber Torres is GNA end up in a situation where he takes a short-term contract with whoever could be the yanes but it's more than likely going to be a contract reset very similar to what you see out of Blake Snell right now Blake Snell represented by Scott Boris didn't get the contract that he wanted right goes out there bring up Blake snow to up Blake Snell Blake Snell based on how he pitched last year should have been able to expect a big contract problem was is he waited too long and now he signed a short contract everyone said what is Boris doing and long behold he's going to opt out if he's healthy at the end of this year and he P you know if he's healthy at the end of this year he's going to opt out from the San Francisco Giants and take a big contract glaber Torres is going to be looking to do the same thing and I know it's hardest to play with the Yankees and I know a lot of people they watch the Yankees what's so hard about playing for the Yankees you've got some good players around you you've got the bright light so you it should bring the best out of you but when people have bad habits the last thing you want to do is have cameras everywhere have podcasts everywhere we talk about everything if you don't run on in game 112 don't you know we're all watching our audience watched a two-hour podcast in the middle of the year I know so you really think how many middle of a losing streak in the middle of a losing streak how many people do you really think would watch a 2hour Arizona Diamondbacks podcast in an 11 to1 loss and talk for two hours and be like you know I want to see what these two guys have to say do you guys really think that this happens across baseball it doesn't happen often so my point glaber Torres can go hide for a one probably a two-year contract with a player option he can sign for $8 million with the freaking anybody he can sign with anybody because anybody can afford that contract it's short term it's not big money and you know what glabber Torres based on what he usually does he's going to play awful defense at second base he's gonna hit well there's no pressure he's gonna jog down the first base line in game 90 of the season and guess what guys nobody's gonna cover it nobody will notice we'll notice his highlights and then when he gets to the end of the season he's going to accept a seven-year contract by some random team very similar to the contract you saw jav bayz get from Detroit he's going to get a six-year contract for 125 million it'll be the last thank you and it'll be the last you see of glaber Tores we'll just laugh at the contract in four years that's that's my estimation of what's going to happen with glabber Torres and this is coming from someone frankly if you ask me last year or the year prior I like labor Tes I'm not in the industry of put guys on the team because I like them I'm on the I'm in the business of saying and covering players in a positive way because they give me a reason to be positive about them if you don't try very hard and you don't perform you make it hard on me yeah I agree I mean one thing I'll say that's kind of unfair is like you know when it comes to like D'Angelo Russell he's not great in the postseason that's actually his biggest issue and Gaber is really good in the postseason he has a 281 batting average in 31 games um five homers only struck out 25 times so not even a strike out a game um and a 820 Ops with a 364 on base percentage so this is what I'm going to say it's really as simple as this this tomorrow is the you know basically the first game of the rest of your season glaber it is what you make it and you have been in a sense one of the more crucial players in the postseason for the New York Yankees and in still they're 14 and 17 in those games but the point is though he stepped up he's done his job I mean to me if you have an 820 Ops in in the postseason 31 games as your sample size you have an on base percentage of 364 you're doing things that Superstars don't even do judge can I ask you a big questioner than that but I have a big question for you and I actually really want your answer because I'm C ious on this and I I feel like you're very qualified and fair to answer this m if glaber tour let's just say best case scenario he learns from this experience it's ridiculous that it's happening in itself I you know at this stage but if glaber Torres tomorrow was just busting his behind down the first base line every every day from this point forward to the end of October and we go into the World Series and let's just say we lose right will just make up a scenario but the whole time from today on you saw the best possible version that you could imagine out of glaber torus do you give him a long-term extension not longterm me either I I think because you have to be in the moment and you know you also have to understand like longterm I mean you gave Aaron Hicks a 7-year deal just because you gave Aaron Hicks a seven-year deal doesn't mean you should go ahead and give seven-year deals out to anybody you you know that was a mistake don't you know replicate that mistake but I mean I offer glaber a two threeyear deal if if he were to do that I'd be like okay we already have Jazz at third glaber you want to come back I mean I'll tell you right now um what I was what I was reading over the the weekend or you know over the week that the off day um I forget who wrote it but they really like Caleb Durban that's a real thing and you mentioned a few times and obviously what he's done in the minor leagues he's very Altuve esque he's they see that team officials look at him as an Altuve that's actually those are the words that were used in that article so yeah you know he stands out he's like 56 5 seven whatever and he looks at he won't be Altuve but the build the style of play because you remember what's his Nick madal coming out and everyone said oh Nick Madrigal is gonna be this stud it's just so hard to be a great player but the point that you're making based on his profile it's more of what a lot of people want which is yeah smaller player not trying to just hit homers he's not just G to slap the ball it's a lot of Gap to Gap he's going to leg out triples he's gonna play good defense a lot of what Gaber Torres and some of these other players Vergo don't necessarily do so I like what he does but at the very least allowing Gaber to to leave at the end of this season isn't all bad for the Yankees obviously it saves them money so that they can spend an absolute boatload on Juan stto because that's what they're supposed to do right yeah but it also opens the door for some young players to get an opportunity and perhaps the Yankees have some guys that they trust to play now the last thing I want is them to sign some veteran that we don't like and just throw them over at second base on some $10 million contract which is very very um Yankees esque I'll be honest with you there um this is why I think there's a chance Gaber could be back um it's really dependent on how they look at their guys so we're hearing yeah Caleb Durban this is the guy that we're really excited about and and boss is somebody that they really liked so much so they traded away first round pick in Trey Sweeney right yep but we never saw him play they didn't even give him a rep so you look at free agency Gary in 2025 at the second base spot like guys that are available I'm not talking about arbitration I'm not getting into that guys that are available free agents glaber Torres Brandon Drury lorri Garcia and runed odor okay oh love of God Brandon Lao and Jorge palanco are they have Club options so hold on what was the last name that you said uh odor I would rather be stuck on it's a small world for like 10 hours straight then watch one more season of odor in pin stripes It's a small world with It's a small world like the song playing backwards demonically I there's no there's nothing in this world that's there's nothing in this world worse than watching that because it's actually everything that people came to dislike and I liked his effort like I thought in general I didn't want him at all but there was nothing to like I mean if if all you needs effort well we've got a a sea of viewers that love the Yankees and they watch our show every day they would love to hustle down the first base line they won't get a hit all year but they sure they sure as hell would love to to Sprint down the line for you here's what they could do um third base right they could move I I'm saying this right now they're gonna keep Jazz at third I I really believe that but if they did were they were like oh there's nobody at second only glaber we don't glaber so they decide you know what we're going to go and get a third baseman I mean Matt Chapman has an opt out right Alex bregman a free agent Justin Turner is available that would be really it Suarez as well Eugenio Suarez from Arizona is also he has a club option um oh so they they' probably not let him go I'll tell you who was going to get lco monata in his $25 million Club option there is no way they picked that up this free agent this free agency class is atrocious I don't want any of those players not one it's actually terrible um outfielders it's literally just it's Juan stto right okay opt out but why would he opt out 27.5 million that'd be dumb not gonna happen teoscar Hernandez is gonna get paid he's gonna get paid uh Michael conforto Marcel o Zuna Club option Mitch Hannah player option Mark canha uh Charlie Blackman jock Peterson Anthony santand there is is gonna get paid out the Wazoo I will say this if the Yankees okay obviously stto needs to be exhibit one of course as as we wrap this up of course if the Yankees bring back for Dugo um when Jason Dominguez is coming back like if they're going to sign any out Fielder other than stto it better be sand that dude blisters them bro he is absolutely I think he's got like 27 home runs now like you know what I mean so that would no I get it I I don't know how but I mean to your point this is one of the worst free agency classes I've ever seen in my life which makes you pay for your past decisions cuz everyone always thinks well if you don't if we don't develop left fielder you'll just go into free agency and we've got that answer well the answer technically is now Hernandez if if you're really going to solve that I could see Cole opting out it's that bad I mean Max Scherzer got $43 million right Garett Cole has a $36 million opt out so if he he can opt in for $36 million or he can opt out and get more he would get more than that probably I I personally I I just think based on Garett Cole's Health right now I do that I don't think he would with the health but I'm just saying like this class is terrible this CL you know what this class is it's literally Juan SoDo right Blake Snell is a th% optic out I don't care 38 BL SN might get 200 million yeah I don't care about the 38.5 million Blake Snell is leaving that on the table like he's gonna opt out because this this class is bad so oh you know where Blake Snell might end up Blake Snell might end up in Baltimore yeah that be fun um well I mean Corbin Burns is gonna Burns is g to end up is burn probably leaving I think I thought he was that was my expectation I thought he was under control for at least one more year it might be one more season that might be a possibility so don't quote Yeah I'm not I'm not seeing him uh oh no you're right he is a free agent he's gonna okay so he's gonna get huge money obviously 23.7 7 million a year is the projection 7 years 165 million Market oh please please no way no no there's there is no way there's no way he's getting paid less than Carlos rodon no you know where he's gonna go he's gonna go to Boston really yeah Boston in general you I mean you just have to remember because the only reason I'm talking about this is this is in division again yeah is the Boston Red Sox have been a team that fans over there in their ownership in John Henry have always wondered which one of these starting pitchers because they signed Trevor story right and he was like well hold on I spent money so I'm not going to do it again which one of these pitchers are you g to go get they thought they're going to go get Jordan Montgomery they didn't okay yeah they they have said no to essentially the last three arms that the Red Sox fans have been asking for what better more reliable arm that is there than that this is a guy who throws 200 Innings he's going he's essentially today's CC Sabathia maybe not to the same level but when you want to look at the back of a baseball card remember we brought up Marcus strowman how he's usually going to hover at about 135 Innings makes a lot of sense he's sitting in the middle towards the back end of your rotation got it 5780 pounds soak and wet Burns is not that way Burns is gonna go out there give you 210 Innings he's going to be there in late October you make a run he's ready you want to pitch him on three days rest he's ready there's certain guys in this league whether it be mechanics whether it be their makeup they've got it Garrett Cole's one of those pitchers where I know outside of this year Garett Cole was one of those guys you just tossing the ball and get out the way you have an expectation of him it's not a performance he just is who he is so when you talk about the Boston Red Sox and getting a pitcher what better guy is there to put trust in than Corbin Burns I mean and I don't want to see it right of course I don't want to see it so I'd like to see the Yankees get them but we kind of know that the Yankees aren't going to give up they're not going to give a $600 million contract and then turn around sign couron Burns if they do that well it's a party on this podcast you guys might not even realize it but uh the Yankees oh my God Lou Travino has a club option he still would be on the team I feel like he's been on the team for a century um Kay Holmes is Freddy Krueger nightmare Klay Holmes is a free agent after this year and so is kanley and Leisa I think Leisa is back because I think it'll be cheap he's coming back from was it I think he got Tommy John right he's almost 30 who loisa yeah he did yep so I think liso will be back on Like A Team friendly deal um kanley yeah free agent and so is Kay Holmes you might not even know this Canley is making2 50k less than Kay Holmes so pretty expensive uh relief pitcher there but the Gary there's a lot of like good relief pitchers um that are going to be free agents and uh like I mean Dan so you're saying the Yankees should be looking that direction this off season well your your boy has a club option so he's not going anywhere Deon William who's my boy Devin Williams huge fan of Deon Williams he he got hurt this year but I'm I'm still a huge fan you know what they should do what the Yankees should trade for him in the offseason I wonder if they would do that he's got a club option it'd be $10.5 million so it's a lot but he'd be fresh like he'd have a whole season of essentially no pitching I mean you can argue fresh but then you can also argue like would you argue Garrett Cole next year is fresh because he didn't like pitch a lot this year he's hurt I get that but I mean you know yeah yeah but like my thing is like you know Kay Holmes is probably going to want that money and it's like I would rather give it to Devon Williams personally Klay Holmes is also he's getting up there in age right so I don't know that aside from that though you know Canley um stas I bet you the Yankees who's by the way an unrestricted free agent I bet the Yankees go hard after a steas in so that would be cuz he can be year closer um he hasn't given up a run since May but this will guys this will be stuff that we we cover don't worry the show isn't going to end if the Yankees are eliminated or if it ends with them holding up the World Series trophy the show is not going to end there we're going to continue to cover the Yankees uh after the season and uh we'll get into all these names at a later date just uh a rabbit hole we fell into and you know I'm glad we did because it gives you some some idea but yeah unfortunately um this uh this class is uh terrible like it's not very good there are guys that they can find value for um and find value with but yeah Gary I think that's what I'm learning really quickly is that this is not a great this is not at all a great class um no it's not so it means the Yankees have to get busy via the trade market and a lot of times when teams make splash it's it is during the winter so now it makes I wouldn't why they didn't now it makes sense why the Rays didn't trade Diaz now I get it Diaz would be the best infielder in by far in free agency and he right controlled so yeah so I guess you can make the argument the Yankees can get that stuff done this offseason which is terrible timing given we're in a win now season so but I guess you can not call it a win now season if the Yankees just bring back Juan sto um but by the way before we go um I need to give people a movie oh yeah I need to give people a movie if you stuck around this long I'm gonna go with the 2013 film that absolutely no one wanted to see and no one saw in uh Lone Ranger from Johnny Depp lost $250 million terrible movie I'm coming up with bad movies for people to know if we lose and anytime anytime we win I'm going to give you guys a good movie so um I like it yeah so we're going with Lone Ranger Lone Ranger there you go that's going to do it we appreciate you guys this is Yankees un load I'm J kogan he is Gary Sheffield Jr and we are signing off until next time you guys take care and like this video [Music] [Applause] [Music]
