offense leaves it with the back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one listen I know there are a lot of DBS out there that all they want to do is get interceptions and dance in the end zone this dude likes to put his face in the fan get close to the line of scrimmage and tackle and on the opening drive that he's out there he gets a huge tackle for loss early that is a statement play fires to the wide out it's caught down field and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes a stop it's first and 10 from the 38 yd line to the ground with the backat what a Nifty one there to pick up the first down first down you know you always want to establish the running game how about this offense nothing fancy run the football be physical get a big game looking to throw it's Beck they'll throw it to the back on the screen they make the stop but a good pick up there on first down well a nice Gainer on that running back screen and how about the offensive line getting down field and getting blocks to really help out the back find some space to go to work second down coming up we wide receiver shows motion from the shotgun the inside K they'll get stopped at the 34 he's got 10 yd on that one and a first down wow the running back there showing you his skill set as he's able to rip off that one for a first down the Cyclones have it with a first and 10 he wants to throw he wants to take the top off and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it and the offense clearly saying we want to take those deep shots we want to be aggressive and and I think that's a good strategy because makes the defense really honor what you're going to do and just missed a little bit but I wouldn't be surprised at this offense finds a way to come back to some more deep BS here comes the seventh play of this opening drive they've moved it well but now facing third down from the gun wants to pass just can't pull the trigger and the quarterback is sacked at the 41 and the defense there goes Zone coverage maybe confused the quarterback a little bit forced them to hold on to the football and that allowed the pass rush to get Ki away and the Cyclones will bring the punt team onto the field he ought to be able to use this first punt to pin him deep no return coming he'll call for the fair catch here comes the offense on first [Applause] down they're going to open this drive with a pass setting up the screen oh he's so hard to get on the ground he's got room they make the stop but not before the screen has hit him for a first down and much more really good execution by this offense so much for the tough field position One play and you're already catlike quickness timeout call by the defense it's their first of the half as they'll make some adjustments didn't get much on first down it's second and nine motion trying to get the defense to show his hand wants to pass it and and he's got it inside the 35 and he got away from the defense and takes it in touchdown IR it's so challenging to stop the middle of the field passes deep down you stretch me in these zones I got to run with you in man it's always a good idea to run those deep posts and you could tell they saw it all the way receiver quarterback on same page gets the big touchdown and the extra point splits the upright almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown fair catch called for and made they'll be able to get off one more play before Quarters at they'll run it they make the Stop and that's how the first quarter will end that's the end of the first qu with the score not Iowa State Z we'll get this quarter going with a second down [Applause] play they'll Run play action oh he's going to try to hit him over the top Hees it into trouble and he finds trouble with the pick and he's wrapped up after a solid return on the pick what a nice catch by the defensive back listen a lot of times you see DBS get in positioned to make plays but there's a reason they play DB and not wide receiver great job finishing the interception catching the ball making a big play Here Come the Irish back on offense they'll start this drive with a pass catch in the middle it's Mitchell and he was on his way and they get him down at the 30 big play for the Irish there reminiscing of a Tim Brown or rocket this ma yeah and I'm I'm glad you used the reference in the last 30 years ree um you know just trying to find Playmakers at Notre Dame and Michael Mayer obviously in the recent years was a guy that you could really really depend on trying to find those golden Tates those elite players out wide is something they've been missing over the last several years caught over the middle it's Evans he's there to make the stop but the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on the throwing catch how about this offense they're rolling they got a couple first downs together defense next what's your response what do you got you got to make some adjustments here they're threatening to score and they'll throw it a little screen to the running back no sir not this time the defense was there and ready for that one well this defense is extremely disciplined right there first down screen pass it doesn't fool them nice play we've reached the two-minute warning and we'll see if the offense can build on this lead before the [Applause] [Applause] break this offense has a second down [Applause] play give to the back and a good solid pick up before the defense Cuts him down here's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half a third and long coming up here quarterback reacting to what the D is showing the throw to the outside is complete and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down M Dame looking for this fourth down conversion he'll try to throw and pick up the first down and it's incomplete and the defense holds that is just the play you have got to be able to come off they don't get bigger than that fourth down You' got to make the catch whether it's a perfect throw whether it's off of your body you're good enough and you're athletic enough to haul that play in you've got to make the play for your quarterback and your offense to keep that drive alive and he's not able to come up with it wasting no time throwing on this drive oh he wants it all he's got it downfield for a huge game and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end not the most productive half for this offense so far but finally starting to get it in gear first and 10 looking to throw it's Beck he uncs one deep and the ball is caught he's inside the 35 he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down well ree you and I were talking about this before the game how was this def going to be able to deal with all the speed they have offensively you saw them just rip off a big play and Jesse now their head spinning just a little bit give up a big chunk play and it's he'll take a shot fires and picked off and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for to this is obviously not a great start for this quarterback here two interceptions already in this game he's got to do a much better job with his decision making ndame has the ball and ready to get moving these last couple of drives Jesse have been about the defense making clutch stand I think for this offense they can stay aggressive knowing that their defense is going to bail oh he toast the coverage got it deep down Field open Runway ahead and he takes it all the way they couldn't stop him touchdown Fighting Irish and I love the play call often times Poss you like to throw the football deep down on your own end and take shots because you're anticipating man coverage so if you get a receiver that can get behind the defense that has a chance to be a home run type play and you saw it work out exactly that way right there they're bringing heat using the back as a receiver on the screen he's into the end zone for the two and extends the lead if only it were always this easy for the offensive coordinators One play big chunk yardage put points on the board just like that you'll call for the fair catch [Applause] here Iowa state has the ball back the Cyclones ready to go on offense running out of time here in the first half and they do have a chance to make this a one possession game and so you he lets it Fly and that will be incomplete man that would have been a big hitter if they could have done it but second down coming well the receiver was double covered on that play and I don't know if the decision by the QB had to do with the pressure because he was hurried he just had to get rid of that faster than he wanted to he's lucky he didn't come away with an interception there he'll try it again on second and 10 going back to the well another deep ball and how about that what the doctor always ordered an explosive play to the 40 there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer wants to throw it's Beck he'll take another shot here and it goes through his hands oh he had an explosive play right there for the taking but couldn't reel it in yeah and I love taking deep shots I think it makes quarterbacks play Hest safeties play honest and you could tell just missed a little bit deep on that shot but Len those are shots that we want to take because the risk is definitely worth the re tight the half get all the juices all the excitement and be like listen the passing game's rolling we got this to come backs in full effect ready to try the point after exra point and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer so they got the touchdown and as they kick off really important for the defense to shut them down here he'll start the return inside his SP he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime motion by the back forces the defense to adjust this guy can throw it fires a bullet now it's picked off bringing it back inside the 30 the 10 touchdown Iowa State what a great play by the defense and paying it off with the interception return the the DB saw it he thought don't drop it don't drop it then thought don't get caught don't get caught and he didn't the pick six these guys can play off defense too now look at this I show you I can be a wide receiver coach might split him out at wide receiver next week after making that big play but defense great job making the interception and you're right doing something with it don't just slide down first and here come the Irish back on offense they got plenty done through the air in the first half and we'll see if they even need to look for balance as we start the third quarter well and I I think defensively you understand like the running game isn't a big part of the plan I wonder how they adjust and play more coverage to this pass happy offense yeah so you're going to have to be ready if you're a quarterback then you're probably going to see some different coverages you might see a little bit more Blitz in the second half as well so you have to know where your answers are to the air it's Leonard get it out on the screen PS through the defense didn't have much room to run and not a whole lot of help short game there and still plenty of ground to cover for the first down on Third and long trying to have a big completion here safe completion on the screen and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage they hope to get him in space create Running Room and they're just wasn't anything there and I love the third down aggressive iny face defense not giving you any room to run down the field great job by the def they saw the throw the Quick Pass reacted to it got him on the ground for a loss this could absolutely spin this game in another Direction they're going for it inside their own 30 on fourth down looking for the completion makes a catch past the sticks and they finally get him to the ground an easy conversion for this offense defense not exactly the perfect fourth down call there sometimes we don't give enough credit to a receiver knowing exactly where he needs to be on the field and they pick up the first down there yeah and you got to give the receiver credit obviously knowing where that is but the defender needs to know where it is too where is he trying to get that Ball's going to come out quick he didn't really understand where the sticks were and because of that he gives up the first down need to just be a little bit more aware as a defensive game and they got the completion but still looking at a third down they'll try to pick it up on the ground he gets it oh so close to the first down marker but I think he's going to be a touch short Nan right back to the line that's it fly makes the catch he's got enough well they just drained all the spense out of the fourth down conversion moving the chains easily that took nerves of Steel to convert that fourth down on the road oh man the crowd going nuts a big time opportunity in the third quarter to create some momentum help them go crazy help them go nuts but the offense does their job quiets the crowd gets the big fourth down conversion got it in the middle it's Mitchell they get him on the ground after he gets enough to move the sticks Notre Dame ready to go with another first down first for the off receivers telling the quarterback what they see from the gun they'll try to impose their will and a lot of times you want those big plays you want those Splash plays but sometimes you're going to take some losses you're not going to run the football overly well but if you continue to run it you can at least create some balance you at least have the threat of it otherwise you're just going to abandon it and now it's just going to be a passing picked off and return there would have just been icing on the cake they'll just have to settle for the cake at the 23 and if that don't light your fire your wood is well the best play on a field is when the big boy the most athletic people on the field the defensive linemen make gamechanging awesome super athletic interceptions going up top on first down oh he's ready to take a shot and they can't make the connection going for a big play on first down and it's okay that that Ball's incomplete it's important this offense comes out and they show that they want to be aggressive they show that they're willing to take shots and they're going to try and take the top off of this defense not able to connect on that one but that will not be the last deep ball we see in this game dropping back it's Beck and it will be incomplete this defense is physical and pass deep third as they get set to snap at time winding down here in the [Applause] quarter easy third and long and he'll try to throw for it and the heat gets there and they get him down at the 14 yd line timeout called by the defense it's their first of the half as they'll go to the sideline and try to make adjustments and the Cyclones will line up to punt it away three and out and not much choice but to get rid of the [Applause] ball well the kicking team obviously missed the fair catch signal the officials did notd 15 Iowa State [Applause] 13 they'll break the seal on this quarter here on first down they'll come out on this drive and let it rip they'll run the screen on the move at the 30 all kinds of Running Room touchdown Notre Dame What A Catch and run for six Notre D he has been surgical Precision passes using the scaff the fine instrument rather than the blunt one and the defense has had absolutely no answer for it just he's been down their throats all game long a step ahead understanding what he's seeing and just destroying this defense and now they'll try to get the two-point conversion guys looking for a man it's Leonard makes the grab in the end zone for the two as they extend the lead that drive not too taxing on the Playbook One play put it in the end zone just like that lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive kick fielded In The End Zone it's Hansen nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 Iowa State sending the offense back [Music] out they're going to throw it to start the drive and this you know exactly the situation in the fourth quarter everything in your favor don't let them make big plays how about you make a big play nice job getting the interception it's not icing on the cake
