hello Baseball fans and welcome MLB the show with a good one coming at you it's the Minnesota Twins taking on the Tampa Bay Rays first pitch coming your way next about to get started here and today's starting pitcher Jeffrey Springs try to stay back for that power change up speed differential between the fast ball and the change up is huge hitters they have a hard time staying back and now for the twins Ryan Jeffers ran the Lefty fires little Chopper rolls foul and the pitch and another ball definitely a swing and Miss slider down and in he finished that really well just couldn't get him to offer at it bounc to the left side cavero sends it to first one up one down and now we take a peek at the Twins lineup here's Royce [Applause] Lewis ball to strike that one fouled [Applause] off one out Bas is empty out there to Center Siri in position makes the grab for the second out that in third the designated Jose Jose Miranda the next twin up to hit the pitch so a foul ball makes it one and two and a pitch just missing there and the count is two and two well I think he's trying to get a feel for where that one missed I mean it could have gone either way but he looked a little shocked for a second there got it by for the K twins are set down one two three and now the Rays will get their first stop opportunity in a scoreless ball game you're watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show back here at Tropicana Field and today's starter number 95 well a pretty standard four pitch mix it's got the fast ball change speeds two breaking balls you know all can be really effective if they're coming out of the same arm slot and really staying in that tunnel for a good bit now up for Tampa Bay Christopher Morell you talk about the power and the speed together oh we knew he was going to be a stud just coming up making his way through the minor leagues and quickly at this level an impact [Applause] player got him looking and he didn't like the call no that's not the best two strike fastball seen but certainly got away with the location there you know sometimes as a hitter when you're down in the count you're so focused on a pitcher painting the black and you just get a little bit locked up on something down the heart of the plate not expecting it and it just kind of freezes you he takes it on his own and two quick outs in the bottom of the first here tonight all right let's take a look at the Rays lineup they're facing a pitcher today who's prone to giving up homers so we'll see we might get some big swings here today yeah I think the key though and the reason why he gives up those homers is that guys are locking in they're aggressive and they have a high confidence level so I think if that's the approach these hitters take with the stuff he's got there on the M yeah there's a good chance that there'll be some balls that fly a long way but you can't get too big in your swing otherwise you'll be really frustrated after this [Applause] one hit hard base hit so a two out Knock keeps the inning alive couldn't have timed it up any better than that just a solid swing right there caught it out front and LIF it into the outfield for the base hit those always feel great and now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first stepping in Josh low throw to Second out there and the inning is over the catcher definitely looked ready for that stolen base attempt got in position quickly and a strike down to second second base to end the inning back now in Tampa Bay new inning getting started now the Minnesota cleanup hitter Carlos [Applause] Santana and another ball [Applause] swing and he breaks his back one [Applause] down Cal farmer up to the plate now this is a guy who's in the line of first and foremost because of what he contributes defensively Chris and when you talk about preventing runs from being scored this guy is a big contributor swing and a ground ball out to short oh great grab on the Dive In Time got her great cat like reflexes right there lays out knocks the ball down and then fires with that rocket arm all the way across the d man put this guy on the M edir Julien will hit next two down dolman on this to center field Siri in position and makes the play and that's out number three we'll go to the bottom of the second no score and welcome back to the ballpark bottom of the second digging in it's the Speedy outfielder Josh low [Applause] low righty delivers fouls one off out of play back to our [Applause] left the wi of the pitch swings threw it and that's a strike out well there's a small side of relief right there I mean just to keep that speed off the base pass it's not just the pitcher it's other guys that have to think about it from your infielders have to think about that Runner potentially stealing but also be in position to make a play as an outfielder you're thinking about a base hit to the Outfield I got to get to it quickly to try to keep this guy from taking an extra base so I think everyone just a little more relaxed that he didn't reach base two two now ball Full Count Woody Keller making the calls behind home for us today and boooks something to keep an eye on is how pitchers utilize the top part of the strike zone we see a lot more of that in today's game with pitchers going up there with hard stuff Keller definitely an Umpire that isn't afraid to call strikes up in that part of the strike zone got him and now two gone I'm not sure that was the exact location the pitcher wanted but it worked he got the swing and miss and bit of sigh Rel after seeing that go through the Zone y Diaz now two outs out to Center and it drops in hitting is really easy for some guys one thing that I can see already his Bat stays in the Zone on plane for an extended period of time and guys like they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane and even when you don't get it great it's still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder the one one that's a strike so far all we've seen in this batter fasts look for him to slow it down right here ahead in the count [Applause] ball down the line lck moving under it HS it away for the out and they're two down now B second Bas Christoper so the Rays batting order turns over and stepping in for the Rays Christopher Morell the W to kick the pitch swing in a miss and the count one and two one ball two stri two down nobody on here in the last half of the third swings through that one it's a strike out Rays held in check here and we're still kned at zero start of the fourth and now for the twins Roy Lewis [Applause] Le and a two- on hammered but foul [Applause] [Music] swings and lines a base hited left field so the goahead run his on base with a knock everything came together perfectly for him right there put a great swing on that ball took the barrel right to it nice extension as well 105 exit velocity that tells you everything you need to know about that swing now it's the twins DH Jose Miranda that's outside two balls and a strike well here's a good opportunity in this inning to get on the scoreboard after that leadoff hit and heartly order coming up right behind him this is where they need to get going runner at first with no outs here and another ball oh theyve had a hard time scoring in this [Applause] four swing in a Miss ugly swing right there he's pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes usually doesn't work out for success but he can never predict baseball and now the count is even the guy at the play could recognize slider out of the hand didn't stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception he knew right away it was an off speed pitch up and in now it's filled up count and so the Lefty allows the lead off free pass that could jump start an offense that's really struggled to score in this one don't want to wake a team up with the free pass no outs runner at first Edward Julien getting ready to hit swing and a miss and it's one and two action in the pen down there rasmo Ramirez getting ready to go Clevenger getting loose as well all tied up and we're in the top of the f the short stop takes the [Applause] ball missed with a change up bounce full three and two Willie Castro toat next foul ball and it remains a Full Count definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside really think the outer half is open and here it comes foul we'll see another payoff pitch good battle here about to be the eighth pitch of the atat got him frame Twins wind up stranding one still no [Applause] score and welcome back to the ballpark now it's the right fielder Johnny [Applause] Duca Clips the corner one and two some movement in the twins Bullpen number 73 warming up for manager Roco baldelli Enriquez warming up as well ha wi in the pitch foul ball still a one and two [Applause] count and he deals swing and a ball lifted left field Martin going after it makes the grab and there's one down the first baseman number two yandi yandi Diaz next to hit for the Raves bases empty one away last half of inning number [Applause] five next offering in there for a strike going to count one and two he has a tendency to chase out of his Zone and that slider that's down that's one of his money pitches to get that swing and Miss got him looking two away oh just excellent location on that inside fast really locked him up as a hitter it's not typically what you're looking for you're trying to protect away and then end so you can be a little bit tardy with two strikes hard to tell if he was fooled or if he thought it' be called the ball but either way that's a really nice pitch so next to the plate for Tampa Bay Jose cavier missed with a change up and that's ball two timing issues can snowball quickly and that's what we're witnessing here this lineup's inability to lock on to the pitcher delivery is causing a few awkward swings line to left and puts the squeeze on that one and that will end the inning nothing doing for Tampa sixth inning coming up still nothing on the scoreboard all set for the top of the six and now for the twins Trevor L [Music] [Applause] Trevor up the middle Morel throws the first in time one up one down not a bad outcome in that spot the runner moves up to Third and now they have a chance to drive in the goahead run it's not a hit but at the end of the day it's a good at bad especially when you're playing Extra Innings Ryan Jeffers the next to hit the one one and another ball in the infield at the corners don't be surprised to see them come home first and prevent that run from scoring swing and a miss it's two and two I think ultimately you want to tie him up get the ball in on the plate so that he can't get the barrel to it and hit it to the Outfield and a swing and a miss huge strike out there oh that's a huge strike out right there big second out infield was in they were playing the full court press and he got the swing and Miss keeps this one tied This nexted Bat should be a lot of fun the odds of wiggling out of this just went up considerably so two down now and here is Royce Lewis next offering is downstairs the Lefty closing in on 100 pitches Martin on third with two [Applause] out and the two- on hammered but [Applause] foul two outs just misses the mark outside the Zone he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three hole hitter coming up if he's w and now the Lefty hot shot to first base and he snags it to end the [Applause] inning bottom of the inning and now the catcher for the Rays number 28 [Applause] 1-1 now next offering misses down and [Applause] away and it's second runner breaks for third Thro and they got him well he had a really good jump off the pitch from second but it didn't matter right there just not enough speed to outrun a good throw in third [Music] base swings and misses struck him out pulled to string on the change up I think he might have gotten away with one right there that was a very hitable pitch right over the heart of the plate and I know that batter is kicking himself s right now would like to get that pitch again just pulled the string on it and the deception gets him the K here's the center fielder Jose Ser two down nobody on here in Extra [Applause] Innings on the ground right side cler slings to First out number three Manuel Rodriguez on to pitch out of the paner he has a great slider with tons of movement now it's the DH Jose Miranda win the designated Jose [Music] Miranda right-handed reliever and that one goes straight to the back stop Lewis up to third on the wild pitch [Applause] [Applause] the 2-1 and he grounds one to the right side over to Diaz that's the first out the top of the seven good armide run to that same side hitter right there very difficult to put that ball in the air or get through it just pours in on the hands and now the first baseman Carlos [Applause] Santana and the pitch got him swinging big strike out right there and that kind of takes the pressure off the defense infield was in so now they can move back give themselves more time on a grounder to make a play a lot more ways to work out of this and strand that runner at third now Kyle farmer the next twin to hit and the righty deals to the left side but it is well fouled so glad these ballparks have and on that one Brandon L up next for the [Applause] Rays the 3-1 and a swing to miss it really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today good fast excellent slider but they've not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there Dives and keeps it on the infield and very nicely done for the out the batter number eight def came to play tonight we're seeing some awesome pitching but a huge part of this shut out so far has been the defense making great plays like that behind their pitcher they feed off of one another make great pitches make great plays defensively here comes the skipper and we're going to see a pitching change in this spot number 95 won't go any further tonight and it's a tie ball game as he heads for The Dugout back with a new arm after a quick break number 7 three takes over on the mound number 73 Caleb Bosley La at the [Applause] plate next pitch is outside left hand batter waights that one hit to right sizes this one up brings it in runner tags for home acrosses the winning run and the Rays walk it on these can be tough at bats when you know you've got to get the ball in the air at worst case scenario that pitcher is going to try to tie you up throw you up and in but he did a good job pulling the hands through extension to put that ball deep enough out into the Outfield to score that run and win this game
