I'm John chabi the first half of the All-Star break is behind us and partner it's go time in the second half and if you want to be playing meaningful games at the end of September you got to put your head down and grind for the next eight weeks all right we'll be back to get this one started after this just about ready to roll here our starter in this one Terk scoble tell us about him in that sub three erra singy well anytime you can keep your ER under three you're doing a lot of things right and you're putting your team in a position to win a lot of ball games as well and he's doing tremendous out there on the mound every time he gets the ball you expect him to go out there and dominate and that's what he's been to this point we'll see how he is today and that one hit to first and he handles it himself for the out here's a check of the Red Sox lineup put together by manager Alex K A guy who's been huge for them over the last month plus Tyler O'Neal well boo not just the fans not just the people watching this game but us I mean we're pretty fired up to watch this guy swing the bat he's got big time pop this season slugging percentage over 500 outfielders put your track shoes on because you're going to be running in the gaps trying to climb the wall this guy is going to do damage when he gets the bat to the baseball Don't Take Your Eyes Off of them one down base is empty that one fouled off two and [Applause] two on the ground to the left and it finds its way through for a hit the rightler here's Tyler O'Neal ground ball right side could be two off balance feet there's one not in time at first it's a fielder's choice that was going to be a really tough one to turn two on So a nice job to get the out at second right there hold on to the baseball Short Stop clearly paid the price but that kind of comes with the territory and it's rafhael DES in the box now snap thr first O'Neal back in on a dive Bo here's a guy at the plate I'm expecting to have a good game he always seems to play better in Road games the one to one got the back going too soon and strike two one ball two strike two gone but the goahead run is it first and we're just getting started here in the top of the first popped up to the left into foul ground and that's the third out so one hit is all they get and now the Tigers get their first opportunity no [Applause] score back at C Park and getting to start Nick petta well no doubt about it he's going to have to put together some consistently good performances order to bring that ra down now he's got good stuff he's just got to be able to have confidence trusted and really go after hitters not nibble TR his can have late life in bottom of the first now a chance for Andy [Applause] [Music] [Applause] aay inside just missed swing and a miss and that strike two that fast right by him slightly elevated that's a confidence boost for this guy out there on the mound see if he continues to climb the ladder swing and a miss struck him out there's one down I got to think that was the plan all the way he set him up with a high fast andry that curve down low to get him swinging now especially with how effective pitch work up in the zone these days that's a devastating combination here's Riley green the wi to the pitch liner sned at first let's take a look at our lineup singy these guys seem to be snake bitten this year bouncing into the most double plays in the league and it's you know really just kind of a rally killer I mean a huge stumbling block when you're talking about trying to get the offense going and you know that makes this lineup frustrating to watch because you know they'd be scoring a bunch of runs if they didn't come unglued and just hack at all those pitcher pitches and hit into those double plays you've got to do a better job and if they want to win today they're going to have to improve in that area and a pitch fast for a strike two out bace is empty [Applause] on and Miss struck him out and good work there as he gets a one two three Tigers fail to make any noise we played an inning no score back here in Detroit all set for the start of the inning and here is Romy gonzalezz [Applause] goes down swinging for the strike out couldn't catch up to theer very frustrating right there as a speedy potential base runner when with two strikes you just struggle to put the ball in play you don't even have to get a hit at that point you can help your team just by reaching error but some way got to find a way to shorten up the swing and put the ball in play next time and now it's going to be Conor Wong the one one is fouled off that misses the zone and the count is two and two Larry Bullard making the calls behind the plate for us in this one pretty good Strike Zone well reviewed by those we talked to around the league yeah he's an Umpire he doesn't get a lot of looks from players maybe here and there once in a while but he's a appreciated back there and a swing in a miss and there's two down he's locked in at the plate when he's using the whole field he was out front there just needs to let the ball travel a little more his timing will be back on track good pitch for the strike out now batting Tristan casus two outs and that one missing low two balls one strike [Applause] the pitch good eye right there no score here in the [Applause] second swing and a ball lifted Left Field Green going after it and that is that we'll go to the bottom of the second no score and we're back we head to the bottom of the second and [Applause] now that misses the zone and it's two and one two and one the count now he hasn't seen a fast yet but you've got to be ready to hit one because you doubt the pitcher wants this to go to a 3-1 count and the two on hammered but foul and another [Applause] [Applause] ball and the pitch good plate appearance there able to take the walk he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot hit didn't offer at it now somebody to worry about over first Spencer tolon up now for the Tigers taken high in the draft he's had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform but at some point that starts to go away and you've got to produce at the big league [Applause] level on the ground two ball there's one back to First and that is a double play as a former player watching five dou plays brings back some adrenaline it's such an exciting play and it's always a great reminder of baseball being such a team sport and next up for the Tigers Zack mckinstry so a foul ball makes it one and two right Ander kick deals BS it back with two [Applause] strikes the pitch and down on strikes he goes and it's a three up three down inning we'll move to the third with no [Music] score new inning getting started now it's chance in Hit J the [Applause] one lays out and makes the play you love to see when a guy's hungry to make a play right there an excellent diving catch you can absolutely tell he was all in and tracking that ball down sedan rafhaela up next to the Red Sox the one- one is fouled [Applause] off kicks and fires Sweeny slings to First and there's two [Applause] away up next to the Red Sox the center fi jar so the Red Sox line up turns over here's the center fielder jiren [Applause] Durant trying to keep good speed off the bases the line of the pitch chases the change up in the dirt got him ining over on the strike out home half of the third coming up no score and welcome back to the ballpark the batter will be the short stop Trey Sweeny s the why to kick the Pitch hit in the air left field ref Snider makes the grab one down Fatt again third so taking in Ryan kler all tied up here in the last half of the third next pitch misses way outside [Applause] in the air out to Center Durant drifts towards it snags it for the second outting Jake Rogers up now for the Tigers and Chris his big strength is defense but it is interesting in today's world of baseball compared to when you played a good defensive catcher is considered differently whatever you get offensively is bonus but he's got to put the fingers down he's got to present pitches to the Umpire they're going to help his pitcher get more strikes fouls one off two and two I think the other component is putting down the finger that the pitcher wants to throw and being on the same page and that's something that this guy does really well gets in sync with his pitchers Andy aan waiting for a turn at the plate looking for the okay three up three down that time on to inning number four we're tied nothing [Applause] nothing back at C Park John shy with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth Rob refer ground ball left side and foul ball wouldn't chase that time two balls two strik [Applause] swing and a miss he him out the high heat too much on that one he just ran out of patience there he took a couple of pitches to even that counts and two strikes but that time chased outside the Z and now the right fielder Tyler O'Neal next off bring is in for a strike pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes usually doesn't work out for success but could never predict [Applause] baseball swing and a miss him out couldn't hit the fast at the knees really love the pitch sequence right there I'm telling you what pitcher and catcher on the same page right now Des now and another ball two ball one strike good eye in that spot a rare three ball count here he's been throwing strikes all day got to be ready to hit if you're in the Box two down nobody on half of inning number four with no score back here in Detroit B four and now the center field Andy I and the 2-1 f ball for a [Applause] strike up the middle and it's through for a h off to a good start with lead off now always feels amazing get the job done when the team needs you to come through it's just bigger than your own individual STS timing on the swing was good able to shoot the ball up the middle didn't score up as much as he probably would that's a Gooding off substitution now in first base and here's the pinch Runner Aubrey Matlock no outs runner at first and now Riley green ball to strike this one chopped on the ground but fouled with the goahead run at first we're here in the bottom of the [Applause] fourth hard grounder into the outfield for a KN throw holds him at second but the goad run now in scoring position and still nobody out he was all over that one there's nothing cheap about the way he got that one through the in that was RI cut out in front get under it like you would have liked but definitely put a good swing on and a huge opportunity now to grab the lead at this point in the game and next to hit for Detroit Matt beerling here's a one-1 rolled softly but that goes foul well if he's going to do something special right here it's going to have to happen with two strikes and a one two gets a piece there we'll do it again well he knows they don't want to give him anything to hit when you got unties to drive in runs you've got to expand the Zone he's capable of going out there and doing damage with it wouldn't chase that [Applause] time swings and misses struck him out just a mid99s challenge fast right there not much to it and I'm sure he another swing at it because he was in a very hitable location those are the swings where you could sometimes start to question yourself as a hitter and say how did I that but you know what happens two on one out Colt Pete up now for the Tigers two on one [Applause] [Applause] out ground ball up the middle lays out but he can't squeez it to First and he beats it everyone safe th a big swing of the bat right there really important at bat coming up now so base is loaded with one away Spencer Tolson getting ready to hit next offering in there for a and they count one and two and a pitch Off the Mark there and it's two and two close pitch there and he's kind of wondering where it missed you know getting a feel for each umpire strike zone is something that pitchers and hitters really have to think about and work on from game to game and sometimes from a bat to a bat still two and two after the foul ball looked like you got a little excited on that fast B got to think to yourself want to stay up the middle that way if you're a little bit early hit it out of the ball swings through it and that's a strike out certainly a strike out situation right there the infield playing back and this pitcher has to step up and get the swing Miss really nice job of attacking the at the Prett big two out coming up now now it's the second baseman Zack mckinstry two outs highfly ball down the left field line and it hops him the wall for an automatic d as two score the play Such Great concentration everybody on their feet knowing that you can come through with a good swing and there he doesn't try to do too much Trey Sweeny up now for the Tigers one-1 now that one fouled off base knock here really gives them an opportunity to take control of this ball game you don't want that other team to think they have a shot and a knock here would be a big [Applause] blow the pitch hard ground ball pce now one run across the throw in he's in there and they lead by four picks himself up a couple of ribes just a simple ground ball the other way that had eyes on it man sometimes that's all you need to do just let the ball travel put the ball in play and just hope it finds a hole runner at first with two away and up next for Detroit ryant kridler swing in a miss one and two one ball two St Sweeney off of first with two [Applause] away ground ball casus he steps on the bag that'll end the inning after a lot of scoring so they move out in front after a four run out burst on to the top of the fifth we go Tigers four and the Red Sox nothing so coming into the game now on defense Aubrey mat he'll be patrolling center field auy Romy Gonzalez now at the [Applause] plate now Fly ball to Right Center NS it and there's one away now Conor W up next for the Red Sox it's amazing we get a chance to talk to a lot of opposing managers this Sky scares managers on the other team as much as anyone and he gets to fly beneath the radar with the other more recognizable names in this lineup swing and a miss he was late strike two good late sink on that fast out of the hand looks so good and then the time get in zone hard to get the barrel to it the Lefty fires got him swinging pitch have become so much better at commanding that high fast it used to be that a lot of pitch didn't like to throw it because it thr their release point and their mechanics and they're aimed at keeping everything at the knees get ground balls but because hitters get a swing path that can lift balls at the knees up in the air and over the fence this come back into play and they are doing some special things with it comes up empty that strike two pit is all about anticipation and right now this lineup is struggling with it there swings swing and a miss and he got him and that is the ball game on the last day of the you close it out with the w but you want to carry that moment into the next game a four nothing shut out
