JAMARI THRASH SHINES IN BROWNS 2nd PRESEASON GAME

that the brown rounds did not start a ton of their rotational players so what I mean by that is this game did not have any of the Browns first stringers right we're not talking about any of the the the number one team Browns really being out there I guess you can by a stretch say maybe Shelby Harris counts as a number one string guy and then maybe deante Deontay Foreman counts as a number one guy because he might be the number one running back but I think that'd be a stretch right it looks like they want him to have that Kareem hunt roll and the Kareem hunt rooll was never a running number one running back role it seems like Jerome Ford is probably going to take over for all of those things so that being said we have to look at this game and understand that the results only go but so far with dictating how we feel or or or not dictating that's not the best word with projecting how we feel about the season the results to me and what happened in this game really don't affect how I view the Cleveland Browns going into the season I think that would be silly I think there were maybe five players on each side of the ball that might get like snaps during the regular season that played in this game and those players looked fine I wouldn't extrapolate anything that you see from this game as anything to be worried about over the regular season that being said let's talk about what happened in this game and let's start with special teams right let's get it out the way before I forget so special teams I think special teams was pretty good in this game dealt with some bad conditions K York was perfect on all of his field goal attempts um the punting was good I think the kicking was good on the kickoff stuff uh pretty happy with where special teams are um Kade York's not going to start for this team it's going to be Dustin Hopkins they're keeping him safe they're playing it super safe this preseason by the way like the Browns are playing this safer than they've ever played it in the preseason so if you're wondering to yourself why is it that the Browns look as bad as they've ever looked this preseason versus any other preseason keep in mind they are playing this preseason Eon safer than they played last preseason you remember last preseason Deshawn Watts in the first team unit played two times the first team defense played three times that's why it looked so damn good in the preseason last year they played the starters for most of the preseason this year they aren't even thinking about playing starters and they might playing for maybe a quarter they are playing it so safe because of what happened last year um during the regular season and how many injuries they're still recovering from because of what happened last year oh that is all there um offensively again you're not seeing any starters it was interesting to note that James Hudson did play in this game where they benched anybody who they felt like was going to start anytime soon I mean they didn't even play like Elijah Moore or Cedric Tilman or David Bell in this game to give you how much they were protecting guys on the uh death chart here so James Hudson playing in this game tells me one thing he's being evaluated he's not being prepped to be the backup left tackle that is likely going to be Hakeem adeni or jera Fetti now both of those players left this game with a injury which means Andrew Barry likely going shopping this weekend right he's going to go shopping I think he's going to trade for a left tackle or sign somebody it's not going to be a giant deal it's not going to be anything Earth shattering but they're going to make a move um because if Jed Wills is not back by the third week of the preseason they're going to want somebody they feel good about in there protecting deshun Watson for what the quarter that he's in there so I don't think they're going to want to be that low on the dep chart with deshun Watson potentially playing and potentially not having Jed Wills who they're confident going to be back for week one but I don't know how confident they are he's going to be back for week three of the preseason so that's probably going to be something that breaks this week I wouldn't be surprised if they made a move there and I think it'll be something stronger than just signing a free agent left tackle to play some snaps I think it'll be they're going to make a move for somebody they feel good about at least protecting deshan for a quarter it's not going to be like a crazy investment but they'll they'll invest in it um again they're playing it safer than ever this off season um let's see what else DTR I thought DTR looked fine out there um you saw him throw the ball downfield a little bit more often I think that was a good thing DTR was getting the ball downfield DTR was not just staying in that 10 to 15 yard range and the thing I want to see in the preseason with players who have known issues I don't want to see you do the things that you're good at right we know what DTR is good at I don't want to see you fall into that comfort zone and only do the things that you're good at I want to see you make an Earnest effort to fix the things that you're not good at and I'm seeing that when it comes to the range of dtrs throws he's clearly trying to push the ball downfield a little bit more often to get better at that and to get more used to that so I like that from DTR what I did not love from DTR was there were like four or five times he got blitzed and every time he got blitzed one of two things happen either he made a poor read and threw the ball quickly to somebody who's going to get knocked back three yards behind the line of scrimmage so effectively the same thing as a sack or he just didn't throw a good football Under Pressure it seems like the pressure is affecting him and when we go into week three of the preseason for DTR you just want to see that part of it get fixed um now I don't know if that's going to get fixed in one week of practice this seems like a longer term issue but you want to see him make progress on that right throw a couple of good balls Under Pressure make some good reads when he gets pressured so that is something that you want to see from DTR going forward here's where I'm at with the quar back situation obviously Deshawn and jamus are going to make the team I think they're going to try to keep DTR in as the number three but if it came down to it during the season and they needed a third quarterback I think they're going to make a move for somebody on the practice squad Tyler Huntley has not been super impressive um in the preseason games I heard he looks better in Camp than he does in the preseason games so maybe that weighs to me but either Tyler Huntley is going to be the one that plays if you get get down to the third quarterback and need to start your third quarterback or they make a call elsewhere and bring in somebody else that Ken dorsy has familiarity with um if it comes down to it but I don't think DTR should play this year no matter what and I don't think it's in the best interest of DTR to play he still does not look ready to put in a game where somebody can game plan for him because right now it's just too easy to lock him out right he's still not there yet with the Deep throws he's still not there yet with the pressure If a real team tries to game plan against him they can just lock him out to make him do the things he's not comfortable with and he's going to not have a good day that's why I would be more comfortable with the veteran there who's a lot harder to lock out DTR the potential's there but he's not there yet from a avoiding being locked out kind of perspective there I thought Jamari thrash was the highlight of the game I thought he looked pretty damn good in this game had a nice play where he caught a ball broke a couple tackles he was getting separation all game things you love to see I thought jir uh Javin Cohen was pretty good the rookie guard out of Miami formerly of Alabama thought he played a solid game um I thought the offensive line in general especially when Nick Harris and the second third string group group was out there I thought they played much better than they did the week prior I thought the operations from the side line was much better that was one of my key things I wanted to pay attention to was how does the operations look for this team when they're out there because it was a little sloppy last week like play calls were getting in late they had to call a timeout just to get a play off a couple of times it was not clean um now that that's cleaned up I feel much better about that remember the Browns have a ton of new coaches on the offensive side of the ball so it makes sense that the operations going to be a little sloppy on the first preseason game it was nice to see that be much much much cleaner even saw them have a clean operationally speaking two-minute drill now I do believe DTR threw an interception on that two-minute drill but it was clean from an operation standpoint on the sideline so really enjoyed seeing that um defensively caka don't think he's going to make the roster that's where I'm at with him um he is a liability in Run game and he's not a good pass rusher what do you do with that if somebody got an answer I I I would love to hear it but I don't know what you do with that um because I certainly have no clue what you're supposed to do with that like it I I can't I can't give you a justif I saw a dude wearing number 60 today outplay seak eeka I saw J Javon Briggs outplay seak I've seen too many players outplay him now Michael Hall I thought Michael Hall had a nice game from a pass rushing standpoint he's awful in the Run game I comped him to Larry oen job coming out of Ohio State he looks like he's living up to that right pretty good pass rusher can get pressure easy to Fool in The Run game he's young he's like 20 years old so if he does have a future with this team and nothing legally continues to hamper his career then you hope those things get panned out this is the dude that you're probably not going to expect to really hold down a significant role for this team till he's like 2223 so we got a couple years there with Mike Hall but I did like what I saw from a past rushan perspective he might be ready uh sooner than later for a little bit of a role there um Shelby Harris looked good in this one I thought he looked fine here I think he just likes to play in the pre season and that's why he was out there and the team is fine with it um Isaiah Thomas I thought he had a pretty nice game and let me not forget the the young man's name Chris Williams I thought he had a pretty nice game I think he's making argument to be on that practice squad he had two sacks in this game had one at the end of the game that resulted in safety he's been putting together a nice camp here um khif fisi had a nice bounceback game I thought that was very good for him he had a nice little bounceback and who else did I think played well none of the linebackers played well today I think all the linebackers look like garbage but I don't think any of the linebackers that going to play during the season were really playing I don't think Devin bush is somebody who's going to make a significant argument to be on anybody's roster anytime soon so I don't think that really concerns somebody well I think Deon Butch might be on the roster but to do special team so anyways not really concerned with how he looked out there um and then once you got to the secondary it wasn't anybody that you expect to play like I know Hardy played but Hardy's going to be primarily a special teamer so not really concerned with how any of that looked um I thought cam Mitchell looked okay he got beat late oh he got beat early in the game but I think he bounced back quite fine from that um yeah I think think those things were fine um overall there's not much to take away from this Browns game because so many of the starters did not play we did get to get our first extended look at Deontay foreman and he looked fine I thought Aiden Robins was another one that looked pretty good in this game especially late in the game you saw more of a burst early in this game it he didn't have a burst to him but late in the game you saw more of a burst from Aiden you saw the burst from Deontay Foreman on a screen play where he was able to get some space and got downfield and you saw a player that can make a difference there right as a running back and you can add him to a rotation I think I see the vision there with Deontay foreman and what I like most about him was when they ran him on first down he was able to get positive yards and if you watch the Browns run the football last year typically during the end of the season when they were down two tackles you know that that was very difficult for this team to come by so I like that from Deontay Foreman I'm pretty encouraged with what I saw out of him um in this game but yeah overall not going to take away too much like nothing about what happens in this preseason game or last preseason game or even in the next preseason game where the starters are going to play is going to change much about how you feel about the Cleveland Browns because they're just not showing that much this is the safest they've ever played the preseason this is the most precaution that they've ever taken in the preseason and it's showing itself on the field because they're not taking very many risk during during this pre-season um so I think my takea away from this game Jamari thrash looked good I thought you saw some nice stuff out of Deontay foreman and Shelby Harris still looks like he's going to be able to be productive out there um Mitchell pyton I don't want to forget about Mitchell Payton thought he put together a nice game as well um and as far as the quarterback situation goes it's looking like DTR should be quarterback three on the death chart I don't know if should play though I think he should just be there strictly to be developed but I don't know if you're going to get away with sneaking him on a practice squad even though I I think you're I think the argument for sneaking Huntley on the practice squad is getting easier and easier um as he plays more so that's where I'm at there with the Cleveland Browns in this preseason [Music] game hey [Music] hey hey [Music]
