THAT WAY. YOU CAN MOVE QUICKLY IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. OK? OUR TOP STORY, THE HOT HOT WEATHER, JOSH, WE MADE HISTORY TODAY IN THE WEATHER DEPARTMENT. DIDN'T REALLY DID 102 THAT GOES INTO THE RECORD BOOKS TODAY. >> AND UNFORTUNATELY LIKELY TO BREAK SOME MORE RECORDS HERE IN THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. BUT THIS IS THE HOTTEST LATEST TEMPERATURE WE HAVE EVER SEEN HERE IN THE CITY TIED WITH THE 1944, RECORD. ARE WE HIT 101. SO WE SURPASSED THAT OLD RECORD BY JUST ONE DEGREE. YOU CAN SEE THE HEAT AND THE HAZE WITH THIS LIVE PICTURE OUT OVER DOWNTOWN PORTLAND ON THIS THURSDAY EVENING AS A KOIN 6 WEATHER ALERT NOT ONLY REMAINING IN PLACE TONIGHT, BUT AS WE WORK OUR WAY INTO TOMORROW. 95 DEGREES. THAT'S WHERE WE'VE MANAGED TO COOL OFF AND THAT'S WHERE WE ARE PREPARING FOR SOME OF THOSE RED SUNSETS TO GET IN THE WORKS AS OUR SUN DIPS BELOW THE HORIZON JUST BEFORE 7.40, LOOK AT THESE TEMPERATURES. THESE WERE OUR AFTERNOON HIGHS, 101 FOR SALEM, 102, FOR PORTLAND, VANCOUVER, NOT MUCH BETTER AT 99. AND WE SAY ONCE YOU GET TO ABOUT THE 98 DEGREE TEMPERATURE, IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW HIGH YOU GO. IT'S JUST ALL UNCOMFORTABLE AND HOT. AS THE STORY APPROACHED THE 90 DEGREE MARK, OUR AVERAGE OUT ALONG THE COAST SHOULD BE IN TOWARDS THE UPPER 60'S FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. SO WE'VE GONE AHEAD AND KEEP SCORE OF THE SUMMER HEAT SO FAR. AND WE'VE GOT NOW 4 DAYS IN THE TRIPLE DIGITS ZONE FOR THE ROSE CITY. SALEM NOW AT 7 AS WE PREPARE FOR YET AGAIN, ANOTHER ROUND OF THE HIGH HEAT TOMORROW. BUT THERE YOU GO. IT'S 102, 2024. NOW IN THE RECORD BOOKS FOR THE SECOND HOTTEST RECORD TEMPERATURE EVER FELT HERE IN THE ROSE CITY IN THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER IS WE TAKE A LIVE LOOK ACROSS OUR AREA NOW AS WE MOVE OUR WAY THROUGH THE REST OF THIS EVENING. NOT EXPECTED TO COOL OFF VERY MUCH AT ALL BY ABOUT THE SUNRISE HOURS STILL INTO THE 60'S FOR US. AND THEN QUICKLY START TO WARM THINGS BACK UP AGAIN. AND PART OF THAT IS ALL BECAUSE OF THOSE EASTERLY WINDS GUSTING CLOSE TO 20 TO 25 MILES PER HOUR. AS WE WORK OUR WAY THROUGH ABOUT THE NEXT 24 HOURS AS WE ARE CURRENTLY SUFFERING WITH OUR AIR QUALITY HERE FOR THE I-5 CORRIDOR. THAT'S WHERE THE SURFACE SMOKE WILL CONTINUE TO FIND ITS BACK INTO THE I-5 CORRIDOR, EVEN OUR COASTAL COMMUNITIES DEALING AND SUFFERING WITH THE POOR AIR QUALITY IS THE THICKEST OF IT SITS OVER THE CASCADES AS WE MOVE OUR WAY INTO FRIDAY EVENING. AND THEN EVENTUALLY WE START TO SEE SOME IMPROVEMENTS BY THE TIME WE GET INTO THIS WEEKEND. SO FOR TONIGHT, YOU'LL STILL LIKELY SMELL THE SMOKY CONDITIONS ACROSS OUR AREA TOMORROW. MUCH OF THE SAME AS WHAT WE SAW TODAY AND FOR SATURDAY, SOME IMPROVEMENTS LIKELY NOT GOING TO BE SMELLING THE WILDFIRE. SMOKE STRONG. SO THERE ARE IMPROVEMENTS ON THE HORIZON, NOT ONLY WITH THE SMOKE, BUT ALSO THE TEMPERATURES FALLING BACK CLOSE TO WEAR IS NORMAL FOR US. 80 DEGREES BY SUNDAY MONDAY AND THEN SITTING BELOW THAT BY THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK. AND IT'S NOT JUST THE AFTERNOON HIGHS. WE'RE PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION TO. BUT JUST LOOK AT THESE EARLY MORNING LOWS, NOT VERY LOW AT ALL. UPPER 60'S LIKELY GOING TO BE BREAKING RECORDS IN THAT CATEGORY AS WELL. JUST PUT IT ALL INTO PERSPECTIVE. WE'RE 16 DAYS AWAY FROM THE OFFICIAL START OF ASTRONOMICAL FALL, WHICH STARTS ON SEPTEMBER 22ND. HOPEFULLY MOTHER NATURE PLAYS ALONG AND ACTUALLY MAKES IT FEEL LIKE THAT BY THAT POINT IN TIME, 68 DEGREES. THAT'S WHERE WE EXPECT TO FALL TO TONIGHT AS WE ROLL OUR WAY INTO TOMORROW. TRIPLE DIGITS, NOT OUT OF THE REALM OF POSSIBILITY, BUT 99 DEGREES IS OUR FORECAST HERE IN THE ROSE CITY AS WE'VE GOT FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTED THE KOIN 6 WEATHER ALERT NOT ONLY FOR THE HIGH HEAT BUT ALSO THE BREEZY CONDITIONS, THE HAZY CONDITIONS AND ALSO THE INCREASED CHANCE FOR WILDFIRES TO START AND SPREAD RAPIDLY AS THE LOW 90'S MAKE A QUICK RETURN COME SATURDAY SUNDAY. THERE YOU GO. THE MID 80'S AND WE CONTINUE THAT COOLING TREND THE HAZE STARTS TO CLEAR. AND THEN WE START TO SEE THE CLOUDS REALLY INCREASE, MAKING IT FEEL MORE LIKE THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER BY THE MIDDLE AND END OF NEXT WEEK. SO SOMETHING FOR US LOOK FORWARD TO AND FROM TODAY TO NEXT WEEK, 30 DEGREE TEMPERATURE DIFFERENT WHILE THIS TIME NEXT WE LIKE
