[Music] welcome to Boon picking Stadium Still Water Oklahoma home to the Cowboys of Oklahoma State Pistol Pete ready to start firing those pistols for the battle we have in store and boy do we have a fun one ahead top 10 team Target on their back going on their Road and right into the snake pit as we'll see the number eight team in the country the West Virginia Mountaineers taking on another big 12 phone the Oklahoma State Cowboy for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David Pollock and Jesse Palmer time to get this game started the Mountaineers will put tot weather to crank us [Music] [Applause] up on the run from inside his zone five and the Return Man reaches the end of the line and down he goes so the Oklahoma State Cowboys return team didn't help matters out much with that one and there he is The Man David that they build this entire attack around and it's so nice to have a guy that makes everything easy for the people around him the quarterback plays better because the feature is clear who that is and we all hold our breath every time this guy touches the football he's able to take it the distance on any given play here on second down with let's see if they keep it on the ground here's the handoff that one did not go well tackled in the back field for a loss of six so already they've hit a speed bump on this opening drive it's third and [Applause] eight now they'll run the draw and there were some collisions in there and the D finally stopped him short of the marker the Cowboys will bring the punt team onto the field they'll have to punt for the first time this afternoon he make the Stop and that is exactly what you want out of your punt cover unit so West Virginia's offense will have its first possession of the game as we take a look at our impact players for this one what are you looking for Jesse for a guy to make an impact well these are simply put the leaders of this football team and generally games go how these guys play if they make plays and they've got a shot to win this one no doubt they got to show up the these are the team leaders these guys have to play well if they're going to win the football and he does a really nice job finding open space and making a good gain before the stop is made good spot after that seven yd pickup on first down it's second and three and off from the shotgun tackle is made at the 44 after the 5yd gain and the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs takes a hand off it's Robinson really important for a ranked team going into a hostile environment like this one not to give the underdog reason to believe yes reason to believe and don't give the fans reason to get jacked up and excited come out early be in a business mode mindset you got to start fast you got to have a sense of urgency you cannot come sleepwalking into an environment like this because if you do and you make some mistakes this crowd will pounce on you and sees moment offense breaks the Huddle it's third down back to throw it's Burton Quick completion on the out and the Mountaineers will keep this drive going they've got it down to the 32 first and 10 coming they'll go to the ground not much there on the Run he gets one to the 31 and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs now the play [Applause] fake can't make the connection the pressure there callus to miss timing I love the job here by the linebacker he just kind of FL fls and's shuffling and he's waiting to see which way the quarterback's going to go with the football not able to snag it out of the air but hey batting it away it's a big time play makes the grab it's orgy he knew exactly where he wanted to go with that one and they've got enough for the first down the Mountaineers come to the line with a fresh set of downs from the gun running back gets to give knocked off his feet but not before he picks up six yds down to the 10 hey five to six yds a pop I don't know if you guys are really good at math but that usually equals a first down every couple carries so don't forget about the Run game keep them honest pound that rock gets it inside the 10 picks up a yard they'll mark it at the nine this offensive line better figure out a plan for this D tackle he is tough to block with one guy you might want to start double teaming him he's going to be a problem moving forward you saw all of his ability on that last trying play action and he was hit just as he was releasing the pass and it falls to the ground incomplete yeah and third and short that choose not to run throw the football and I think a lot of that has to do they know they're in Fu bow range they can take the three points on the board on fourth down they'll throw for it got it he gets it in touchdown West Virginia and what a nice start for this offense the throw game getting working getting the touchdown pass this quarterback getting a little bit of confidence this passing game getting in a rhythm nice start for this offense they'll try to add another to their lead and he's got the extra point and it's seven nothing to start this one they put it in the end zone with a 12pl scoring drive and they C things off with a nyd touchdown pass Turner's going to try to see what he can get didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Oklahoma state has it back and the offense is on the field boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah in the last Drive nothing really clicked no rhythm got off the field really really quickly they need to put something together here yeah David that execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath and start playing like a unit on this drive they'll run it out of the shotgun just gets it to the 28 pick up of one when you have a conference as deep and balanced as this big 12 is it's important to get off to a quick start in Conference Point yeah you're going to be challenged each and every week here in the Big 12 Conference since they've expanded the quality of this conference has gotten so much better so David Big Challenge here to make sure mentally your mind is Right starting the season off today yeah I mean to make your your dreams come true it starts one game at a time the old cliche but the big 12 year in and year out so many different teams that can beat you so many different teams that can put points up on the scoreboard got to start fast in Big 12 play and these little touch passes man they're just the easiest completions ever for quarterbacks Palmer I bet you would have loved being able to just Flip It Forward that counts as to your completion percentage which is good and then it's all run after the catch so pretty easy for a QB you wouldn't have been the only All-American in this booth game and if I were allowed to put have Push passes when I was playing quarterback I'll tell you that it is so hard to defend it's so hard to seal that edge especially when this guy's Full Speed Ahead coming around theide he showed it all there a little elusiveness a little power and he's got the first down and the Cowboys are moving quickly down the field now on the counter we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up and the running back didn't get much there nice job by the defense you can tell they're focused in on this running back on this run game being physical getting knockbacks and limiting his carries fires and picked off not a lot on the return but they can live with that as they've got it at the 49 who says defensive backs don't have hands nice job breaking on the football and making the catch a lot of times you see guys SWAT it down or you see them trying to catch it it looks like they have two left hands defensive backs don't catch real well nice job breaking on the football nice job securing the int and actually catching it West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook Jesse looking to take it down the field for back-to- back touchdowns I think it's really important for them moving forward too to have a lot of balance right you want to be able to keep this defense guessing P yeah and you got me searching for answers after that last drive you stack another Drive on top of this their defense's heads are going to be spinning all over the place they'll line up for a second down play on the run it's Robinson and the Mountaineers have enough for the first down all right guys that's not a home run type play but he did enough there to keep the chains moving they're lining up on First and 10 from the 38 they'll ride the hot hand one step WRA two step sque this junor knows how to get him on the ground and you want to run the football that's okay you'll take some of these but if they start to add up down the road obviously you might want to think about airing out a little bit to the air it's Burton nothing doing downfield he'll cut his losses and threw it away it'll be third down and that's a really good decision by the quarterback don't take the sack throw the ball away now listen we can debate whether that was intentional grounding or not because he's still in the pocket I'm not sure that that's not classified as grounding but they didn't call it so you know what nice thr away Q yeah he was able to make one guy Miss but he had to make two in order to pick up that first down it was a nice individual effort just not enough line of scrimmage is at the 28 that would make it about a 45 yd field goal attempt they're going to go for it instead on fourth down and what moves this guy has the Jes The Wiggles the squirts just went right past him and picked up the first down the Mountaineers will have it first and 10 used the play fake now to throw got his man downfield they get him down but this offense is set up first and goal from the nine well there's a great example of the receiver working back to his quarterback on the C route against man coverage he drives back towards the football makes the catch and gets the first down guys that's the end of the quarter and West Virginia has the lead and we've come to the end of the first as we take a moment to check out the stats so far they've switched into the field and we're ready to get things started here in the second they'll try to open this quarter by sticking it in the end zone [Applause] here can't hold on he had him right down the middle and he flat dropped it defense roll up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming running back goes in motion looking for a man it's Burton he got it and he will score touchdown Mountain here that touchdown gives his team a pretty significant lead at this point and that's what you want you want to start fast you want everything to come out start clicking make some plays it doesn't always work that way but when you do man the energy the crowd everybody's into it now the other team better respond lining up to tack one more onto that lead and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further let's go to the studio now check in with Kevin Connor Kevin what do you got a bit of an under the radar game this week guys but take a look at this Maryland is having its way offensively just marching up and down the field at a breathtaking Pace they're up 14 over Kenna saw State we've got our eye on things here and everything else going on right now and any updates you'll see him here guys and how about that one Kevin will be keeping an eye on everything going on elsewhere and they'll finally catch up to him but not before a big chunk of yardage is picked up off the play fake on first down he's got an open man and this junior loves to show off that big arm this first half of offense won't go on the Highlight Reel so far starting to get things moving it's first and 10 they'll pick up four second and Six coming you know it's so important for offense is to want to keep third Downs manageable the way you do that is by having success like that running the football on first down trying to impose their will with the Run brought down to the ground but he has enough for the first down the Cowboys moving quickly to the line well the offense is in a really nice Rhythm right now it seems like no matter what they're dialing up they're getting positive yards and it just feels so good as a play call you know on first down you can get yards like that turning around in handing yeah and on the other side you're scratching your head going what the heck can I do here you got to find something the defense has got to find a way to create some momentum whatever they're doing right now it's not working so you got to keep going through that play sheet and maybe find something a little bit different that can give this offense something to think about that linebacker saw the express lane right to the ball carrier and a great job by the defensive line getting some push making them use their resources is on him strong pass rush gets to the quarterback and they get him at the 46 third and long situation we're bringing an extra DB on the field and we're telling our front guys to pin your ears back and go get the QB and they get the job [Applause] done and the Cowboys will punt it away on fourth down this will be the second time they've had to kick it away make sure that there's not going to be a return on this one balls out of bounds and I think they'll mark it right around the 25 West Virginia hasn't the offense ready to go to work they've jumped on them executing at a high level and up 14 nothing David this is the exact start you want I mean offense is playing great defense has gotten stops you're in the position now Palmer to put the hammer down and get a three possession lead I'm really impressed with their physicality both sides the ball early in this one they've been winning in the trenches so here on offense keep running the football and show your dominance quick pass on the jet motion dances away from the D and he's brought down at the 40 yd line and that'll be a first down and just went with something very easy very reliable Flip It Forward let your receiver do the rest I only got to get a few yards nice job nice execution first [Applause] down they believe they can run right here a solid pick up there before the defense is able to make the stop yeah and it's a nice decision by the quarterback when you run these rpos man if you can give it to them and you can get such positive yards like that continue to do it make that defense react a different way then off thr and he'll find enough Running Room to get it just short of Midfield at the 49 and as an offense having success on a run play like that early in the game just opens up all the possibilities of your playbook moving forward play action running the ball throwing the ball screens anything is at your disposal at this point on Third and short the run and looking for the first down he's got enough to move the chains and they'll spot it at the 47 yeah third and one you know what time it is it's about the big boys up front you got to give me a little bit of space a little crack you just can't give up that penetration so my running back can fall forward just like that and get the first down and this defense has its work cut out to get this dude on the ground he was shedding serious tackles on his way to picking up the first every offense wants to be able to run the ball and be physical especially on first down and you want to create second and short third and short or just get first downs like that run right there they've softened them up with the run now to throw it and the defense picks up a sack getting the quarterback down at the 44 and don't get it twisted a big part of this team's formula for Success defensively is's getting after the quarterback in their last game they had six sacks won the game they know they've got to be able to get after the QB in this one put some pressure on them they're already off to a great start fired that thing out in a heartbeat but it's [Applause] incomplete third down this will be the eigh play of the drive but a great opportunity for the defense to get off the field on Third and long hoping to throw beyond the sticks fires to the big fella and he laid the lumber to stop him from getting the first down you got to love that on defense one of the most critical statistics out there is how do you play on third down how do you prevent the opponent from keeping drives alive right there tackling the catch he gave up the completion whoop-de-doo you set up fourth and long you're going to get the ball back go get some water and some and they can't make the connection on Fourth Down and they'll turn it over first down for this offense the give to the running back from the shotgun they'll get him down but not before he crosses the 50 he's down to the 49 first down for the offense and first down for the offense might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one you know the one thing you can say about this defense they pursue the football the first guy might miss the second guy might miss but there's going to be more and more hats flying to the ball carryer you saw it on that play getting the tackle for once and he was hit just as he released it and it falls to the turf now facing a third and long for the 50 yd line Smith wants to throw feeling some heat and that pressure just engulfed him a sack for this defense on Third and long you know what's coming that's exactly where you want to get an offense the passing game has to come out you go nickel bring some more speed on the field and the defensive line gets home and gets the sack to force the fourth down the Cowboys decide to pun it away on to punt it away [Applause] he'll call for the fair catch [Music] here West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook they've got it back after that last Drive stalled out and they were stopped on fourth down David yeah and they put a little bit of a drive together but Jesse they stalled on the other side of the field and they got to find a way to keep that momentum going as they get closer to the end I agree I I do like their mindset though and I think they need to continue being aggressive moving forward in this game after the incompletion back to the passing game and that pass will be Jarred loose on second down that brings up third down they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here on third down going up top grabbed over the middle it's orgie and short tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker and the Mountaineers will try to pin them back with the punt he'll try to really get into this one tries to find a little more Running Room on that return but he'll be stopped at the 36 Oklahoma State hoping to get the pistols firing on offense they've stumbled a little bit out of the gate here Jesse finding themselves down by two scores yeah and their defense needs to help them out and get off the field get them some more possessions this offense didn't spend a lot of time on the field in the first quarter David I think they got to run the ball here and try to establish some Rhythm they got to establish something and you're right you'll wear your defense out continue you keep getting the football back to them to the other offense you're wearing your defense out and you'll have no shot to get back in this game gets it to the 46 yd line first down for this offense you wonder now on offense have they found something in the Run game finally it's been tough for them to get the Run game going but they picked up a nice gain on that last one let's see if they go back to it he knock him down right there that's a great individual play and I love cornerbacks that don't just take pride in covering guys I like guys that like to put their face in the fan and affect the running game this dude is physical and he impacts the defense because of it and those guys are really hard to find a lot of Corners they're smaller they don't want any part of the physical run game nice job sticking his face in there setting the edge making the tackle they're going to try to throw for it on third down didn't put much on that one and it's incomplete and the Cowboys will punt this one away fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to punt it'll go out of bounds and we'll see where they mark it it's going to be right around the 35 West Virginia has it and the offense ready to go to work they wanted to set the tone strike quickly Jesse they've done exactly that up to touchdown and this quarterback has been dialed in too he's been so good reading coverage going to where the open guy is with the football and they've been up and down the field David so far and this defense needs to make something happen right now I you've already given up a couple touchdowns your offense has got nothing going still early in the game get a stop create some momentum for your offense grabbed in the middle it's Gallagher they'll get it to the 48 no need to measure it to First first down the Mountaineers want to pick up the tempo to the air on first down he looks that one in nicely timeout called by the offense and now they just have one remaining in the half I love offenses and quarterbacks that are willing to take the easy stuff take those easy throws that are guaranteed to get positive yards yeah I'm going to take big shots down the field too but don't forget it's easier to pick up second and five third and five and it is when we start getting those long yarded situations with the catch it's Orie he's close to the first down but they're going to Mark him just a little short let's see what they do on third down they'll try to pick up the first through the air intercepted trying to take it back and they'll drag him down after a good return on the interception well the offense turns it over and talking to their coaching staff before this game they talked about how important it was to have good ball security not give the opponent extra possessions that time poor decision by the quarterback and the defense made them [Music] pay Oklahoma state has it back in the offenses on the field running out of time here in the first half and they do have a chance to make this a one possession game and so you got to locate your best players and get them to football on this strong down in the game there's obviously a lot of football left David but on this drive in this two-minute situation best players got to touch the ball and this could get into pressing mode right like you go into the half down a couple of scores it starts the pressure really really mounce good opportunity to take some of that pressure off get some momentum energize this squad going into halftime got a man it's Higgins a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half I'll say this man in college football you see a lot of bad tackling you didn't see it right there that was an awesome job first off being there at the point of attack once the tight end made the catch there was no doubt he was going down great job FTE passing game very effective on second down what about here on third they'll try to get the first through the air makes the grab they'll get him stopped just short of the end zone but they're in business here with the first down here's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half and here's the chance to cut into that lead before halftime first and goal they'll run it into the end zone he goes touchdown Oklahoma State that's a nice drive a nice physicality punch it in in with the Run game and here's the thing I like where this offense is going nice job creating some momentum going into the half cutting down the lead this thing could get really exciting nice job answering the Bell right before the half [Music] they'll try to attack one more on their score and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer and let's check in with Kevin Conor in the studio Kevin arguably the game of the week fellas with two top 25 teams locking horns Texas Tech is currently ahead in this one the Jones is just jam packed today but the scarlet and black have struggled to pull away they're up by six over Utah we'll Circle back if anything big happens you should know about good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up well we knew coming into this one the tight end was a big part of this offense you've seen it early in this game they've moved him around they've thrown it to him in a lot of different ways defense is going to have to make some adjustments trying to stop this guy the offense calls timeout and they won't have any more left this half West Virginia just a few seconds to go here in the first half and they'll send out the field goal team knocked it right through showing that big range from 48 yds out personal fou the kick def they'll decline the penalty here and the result of the play stands first half in the books time now to join Kevin Connor in our halftime update all right fellas looks like you've had a very enjoyable day there today in Stillwater and we'd be remiss if we didn't start this halftime report by acknowledging the sparkling play of this tight end the gu's like an aircraft carrier out there as a blocker and then when he releases and shows off that speed and Route run he's almost unguardable got to believe he won't be able to go anywhere in this second half without someone attached to his HIIT with that said let's send it back to the guys at boom picking Stadium on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook they start this third quarter with the lead but they might want to think about Shoring up that protection yeah the good news is you're you're leading on the scoreboard the bad news is your quarterback doesn't feel like it CU you can't protect him so David adjust and pass protection that has to be something they were talking about here at halftime 100% just you can't get him hit that much he's still doing a good job delivering the football but if you keep hitting the quarterback enough man they'll start to see ghost they'll panic and they'll make some of those mistakes to the air it's Burton fires to the wide out and that ball is picked off he was looking for a little more on that return but he hands this offense a short field at the 3 five man this is how we do it defensively you go into halftime you make adjustments you talk about we've seen him do this we've seen him do that let's get ready for it let's have a plan plan executed you could tell they knew what was coming did a great job defensively forcing an interception right out the gates to start the second half Oklahoma State hoping to get the pistols firing on offense the last time they had it they took it down the field for a touchdown they can build some confidence that they could go backto back scoring Drive drives here yeah and remember it's not uncommon for offenses to find themselves as the game goes on they had some things not go their way early but they found something last Drive David let's see if they can build on that yeah you you you just pick and pick and pick until you find that place where you're like okay this is an advantage I have they've clearly found that dude they score here we're in for a ball game the Cowboys are in the hurry up now with a red zone opportunity fast motion from the offense the inside handoff and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this no game land got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 using his legs it's to Manuel pushing ahead a tough run picks up for it's down at the 15 now on third down after that run from the gun wants to pass got it in the middle it's Higgins they make the tackle but he's got a fresh set of downs in it's bursting roll from the seven and the Cowboys look to keep this drive humming they'll keep it on the ground for first and goal knocked down after a gain of one they'll mark it at the six now on second and goal brings up second angle motion from the offense the run up the middle trying to find his way to the goal line he'll be brought down at the 5 yd line and this defense is on its heels they'd love to make this short field payoff with a touchdown instead of settling for three but it is third and goal and it'll be intercepted In The End Zone thir inter we've just seen in this game the balls just gotten away from him a little bit a couple of times just hasn't been able to put it where he wants to and as a result that's now his second pick thrown in this [Applause] game West Virginia has it and the offense ready to go to work after throwing the pick on the last drive need to take care of the ball this time Jesse we're going to find out a lot about this quarterback right here too how does he fight through adversity after that last Drive yeah clear the mechanism move on that's a part of it right if you're going to be a great player you got to learn how to handle these mistakes and move on they'll leave it with him the Mountaineers pick up the first down that's just tough hard-nosed running you need one yard to get let the running back figure it out now on first down from the 30 to the ground he's got it again dragged down after a pick up of five out to the 35 it's going to be important this offensive line is able to get a little bit of push just got to give this guy an inch a little crease and he can make yards for it from the gun the running back has it he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see which way that's going to go hold holding penalties the ultim Drive killer we'll see if it cost this offense here let's see what they've got on second down looking to throw it's Burton quickly out to the tight end they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down third down coming up after that completion from the gun wants to pass coming after it and the quarterback is snowed under that's a good example there of compliment defense the DBS and linebackers are playing Zone playing their spaces and they force the QB to to have to hold the ball try to work through his progressions then the pass R they went up front Oklahoma state has it back and the offens is on the field boy they had that last Drive moving a little bit David but then the mistake just crushed them yeah and those mistakes mistakes are going to happen you going to throw the football you're going to throw interceptions but I think I stay aggressive with this offense I get back to what I did in the first part of that drive what made me successful I agree David just turn the page if you're a quarterback right on this drive you did a lot of good things there leading up to that pick forget about it move on play the next play he finds his man he's brought down solid pickup but a little bit short of the first down four punts already and they've got to convert here to avoid a fifth they'll try to get it through the air he's got his man and how about that catch and run so dangerous this guy the Cowboys have it with a first and 10 wide receiver now comes in motion out of the gun the inside k a run up the middle is stuff for no gain on the that back had absolutely nowhere to run the football actually is he counting I think he's counting to make sure there's only 11 guys on defense got his man quickly for an offense slant routs against man coverage are really a rhythm take your steps and get the ball out it's got to be in a good location quarterback and receiver on the same Pace though throws to the wide out complete in the middle the stop is made but this offense is threatening first and goal from the nine defense is backed up shadow of the goal po trying to defend their own End Zone wide out in motion keeping it on the ground on first and goal they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one defense rolls up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long [Applause] coming he'll run it up the middle trying to pick it way to the end zone gets it inside the 10 picks up a yard they'll mark it at the nine they've gotten push back but is still third thir and goal and Smith dropping the pass Let's It Go to The End Zone and he throws his third pick of the day his head has to be spinning and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception QBs have to understand when I'm throwing against zones I got to manipulate guys with my eyes I might have to look one direction to create an opening to throw that ball or zip that ball in I got to use Touch it's really hard when all eyes are on me and you could tell the quarterback was not ready and did not make a good throw West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook here's another opportunity Jesse to stretch out this lead after punting last time I think it goes back to your Playmakers ree I think it's finding the guys that have been working for you earlier on in this game and getting them the football yeah and there's obviously no need to panic I mean think about it you got the lead you got the football you got to be smart with the football make your plays put a good drive together here they'll go back to the air on second down and he might be known for one pitch but that was a sure and heavy tackle on the tight end third down coming up after the completion from the gun wants to pass finds the tight end he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down a new set of downs after the completion they'll give it to the back and this one will be stopped for No Gain great team defense on that one play everybody doing their job people winning their one-on ones D lineman staying in their gaps linebackers and DB's filling you just can't do it better wants to fire on second down he's got it downfield for a huge game and the tackle was made but not before that completion gets him 30 plus what a beautiful throw and catch on this play and I love the job the receiver did tracking the ball in the air nice job of locating the throw and then hauling it [Applause] in and the Mountaineers are on the move they've marched to the Red Zone and here they go tight end finds a soft spot they make to stop at the 5yd line but they've got it first and goal on the doorstep of cashing it in for the offense dropping back it's Burton and he was drilled just as he released the pass it's incomplete it's hard throwing in the pocket man you got bodies and 300 lb dudes falling all over the place they're trying to hit you that time the pressure got to them and it forced the incompletion snags it and he will score touchdown Mountaineers like a Thanksgiving turkey they're just being car no shot they have no idea how to get in this quarterback's head he's on fire everything he's doing is working defensively we got to figure something out we got to try to do something a little bit different bring more pressure at this right shoot he's on so much fire you might as well just send everybody everybody live with the results cuz everything else ain't working anyways and with the extra point they now have a thre possession lead at 17 about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 offense getting set for first down [Music] [Applause] and this will be incomplete a big hit there forces second down as they get set to snap at time winding down here in the [Music] quarter they go to the draw and as they get him to the ground clock running looks as if time will expire here in the third brings up third down no question they wanted to get the ball to their Playmakers and both receivers have come up big through [Music] three as we start the fourth quarter it'll take a pretty sizable comeback to win this one this defense has kept them backed up now one more stop and they can get off the field on Third and long fires one high and deep and they can't hook up on the big play and that brings up a fourth down and the Cowboys line up to punt it away they've been busy out there to punt for the fifth time today that's usually Prime return position but he'll make the fair cash just outside the 40 West Virginia has it in the offense ready to go to work so the first play of the drive will come from the 43 leaves it with the back able to SC three yards out of that one somehow it's second and seven I never know if it's grammatically correct to say a team is being out physical you hear it a lot in football though that's happening in this game they are just not getting the push they need all game long up front to have any success when they decide to run it they'll test the right side that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there how bold will they be on third down after that last [Music] run off the play fake find his big tight end and they reacted well to the completion but it was too late to keep them from getting the first down the Mountaineers will line it up on First and 10 from the gun running back on the move that's a really good job by the defense wrapping him up getting him on the ground take away that run game make him onedimensional put him in passing situations really good job by the defense after picking up a couple it's second and eight from the gun he leaves it with the bat showed off just about every move in the book except the forward move stopped for a short gain I think that was an example example of the offensive coordinator trying to help out his quarterback he's trying to keep these third Downs managed you know you throw the ball on second down and it's incomplete now you've set up third and long and now you're set up to fail wants to throw on third down and it's incomplete despite some serious arm strength shown there third and short in college football today you see so much more pass than you used to the offense stays aggressive and I think they stay aggressive CU they know they're in field goal range they got that three in their back pocket [Applause] and he's going to be batted down they'll turn it over on Downs you know there are a lot of people watching this game that are thinking themselves where's the sportsmanship you're blowing this team out why are you going for it on Fourth though why not just punt give it back and just leave here with a double that's because this coach wants his guys to keep executed I played for a coach in college that would have done the same thing backups are on the field they get an opportunity to run your playbook so let him do it at the end of the day you got to for the opponent to stop and that's what they're doing that's the mindset I got to be honest I like it they'll finally get him on the ground but not before he makes it to the 30 and gets a first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs first wide receiver shows motion off the play fake on first down to throw and the defense gets home and makes a play at the 37 Y Line and I tell you what this defense they've heard all about how great this quarterback is they came in today with a mission with a purpose they've been flying around harassing him and making life so hard on this offense the first down sack pushes the ball back for this long second Down Smith wants to throw he's got his man push down for the tackle it's a nice job running the in route there by the receiver and the best thing he did after he made his break he didn't Trail and fade away he actually attacked the football that's a good lesson for young receivers out there watching they thought they could just run it on Third and short but this defense was there to make the stop now on fourth down here comes the field goal team and this will be a 41 y coming up from the right side splits the uprights right down the middle that me the score they were able to get a field goal on the board and now they'll kick it [Applause] away and as the ball makes its way into the end zone it'll be a Touchback they'll bring it out to the 25 West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook that last Drive was promising at times but stalled out and they turned it over on Downs Jesse I think they got to do a better job here just being better early in the Downs on first down finding positive plays yeah and it's frustrating when you move the football and get stopped on the other side of the field and get no points but they've had some success and I like the aggressiveness they just got to cash some of these drives in to the ground with the back cross the 30 to the 35 and that's a gain of six I know the passing game sells the passing game is exciting but it's not exciting to get five or six yards of pop on the ground but it will be very successful on Third and short they'll try to pick it up on the ground here they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and the Mountaineers will line up to punt it away on to kick it away he'll wave for the fair Catch and haul it in at the 25 Oklahoma State hoping to get the pistols firing on offense they're going to have to be more aggressive in this drive you can't expect to win this one David kicking field goals no especially when you're trailing you got to have a little more urgency and maybe a little more aggressiveness Jesse and field goals are not going to get it done down the stretch yeah you're going to have to take some shots no doubt bottom line when plays present themselves you jump and here's a fumble way behind the line he's got the ball and he'll try to pick up a few man this is why you practice Five Points of pressure with the football you cannot put the ball on the ground doesn't matter how many Defenders are around you or how hard you get hit you cannot turn the football over and expect to win games they recovered their own fumble but now it's third down they'll stick to the ground looking for the marker that just never had a chance as they controlled the middle of the field and stopped him in the back field on third down down in the fourth quarter it's too late for empty possessions they'll go for it on fourth down they'll try it on the ground he's not going to make it and what a big stop for this defense and they might be able to put this thing away here comes the offense on first down trying to make that Rush think on the draw play here oh better check some ankles he makes a move and gets down to the 24 halfway there on first down it's second and five second down they'll run the ball the clock is on their side and he was able to shed a tackle and pick up the first down before they finally get him on the ground from the 17 yd line threatening to score on First and 10 the give to the back trying to run it in in the Red Zone he's got four and he's down at the 12 yeah and he's been dependable I me like just he's been a guy that they've given the ball a lot he's just been so productive giving this offense an easy way to move the football down the field 97 yds on the day he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple it's going to be tough sledding for the offense here they're trying to ice this game by running the football and bleeding the clock they've got a pretty good lead here late game but the defense knows the run's coming right so they're going to be loading the line of scrimmage getting stops like what they just did be interesting to see what the offense does on this next one on Third and long try to convert through the air and he can't find his man as he was trying to pay off this Red Zone opportunity they'll play it safe and send out the field goal unit and that is no good missed the field goal but still a two touchdown lead 14 West Virginia 24 Oklahoma Oklahoma state has it back and the offense is on the field they were really aggressive going for it in their own end last time and put them in a tough spot David yeah aggressive Reckless they got to find the balance with this offense to really be productive and last possession they went for it they rolled the dice Palmer and it didn't work out for them yeah if you're better on third down moving forward though you can keep yourself out of those situations they'll throw it to the back on the screen and he is going to be forced out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage tremendous defense there you make up the game plan and not a lot on the play sheet for this third and long from inside their own 20 and it's picked off for the fourth time today and he's wrapped up after a solid return on the pick that should be the nail in the cin what a great break on the football getting the big turnover you got the lead now just go out there be smart on offense and run that clock West Virginia has it and the offense ready to go to work they're in command of this game now let's see if they tried to rub a little salt in the wound or happy with getting the W yeah and listen this this makes the postgame handshake fun sometimes if you do choose to rub a little salt and keep chucking and keep scoring I'm here for it Jesse like your job is to score points it's my job to stop it keep the foot to the accelerator keep trying to play ball I agree a th% that's like Steve sprayer back in the day when I was playing for the Gators you go and play for him because you want the opportunity to to throw the ball so when you get in the game late you're not handing it off we were beating Central Michigan by 80 something points he was still letting us throw the football it's the defense's job to stop defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense out of the gun the running back has it and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum the give from the gun and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop [Applause] the offense will stop the clock and use one of its timeouts Time Out West Virginia and on fourth down they'll try to salvage the drive with a field goal and if they can make this and turn it into a three-score game they'll have this one all but locked up that is no good missed the field goal missed the chance has to make it a thre possession game it's still a 14-point lead guys Oklahoma State hoping to get the pistols firing on offense one of the most valuable things a quarterback can have David shortterm memory just forget that last pick you dang right clear the mechanism it's over moving behind some players can't do that real well and it leads to more mistakes Jesse you got to just forget about it and move on and I think the coaching staff can help him too David I think you can get the running game going here and also give him some easy throws and it's incomplete it was wild high and wide on that one third and 10 still backed up inside their own 20 this drive hasn't really gotten started Smith dropping the pass he makes the connection really confident throw and catch there big pickup and they have a first down now they've got to hustle to the line and get set first got to get lined up to spike it and stop the clock brings up second down second down coming up he's looking to throw unloads to the wide out a beautifully placed ball to the outside in the tow drag for the big pickup and it looks as if they' buzzed down replay wants to have another Peak at that last after taking another look just to confirm everything the officials on the field got it right play will stand the Cowboys with the first and [Applause] 10 he's looking to throw it they're bringing heat that pressure got to him and he just had to Chuck it out of bounds sixth play of the drive coming up misfired on first down back to the air on second didn't have much of a choice there but to get rid of it now third now facing a third and long wants to go up top he's going up top here late in the game and just not enough field to hold that one it's incomplete and after this play the cake will be baked on fourth down they're taking to the air takes a shot as he lets it go and that pass is incomplete they were going for the consolation touchdown but to noo and that's going to do it for this one they won the game today that's two in a row if they win the next one it's called a winning streak it's been done before and we're seeing the identity of this team coming to fruition just get the they're finding out who they are what they're about what they're going to do schematically and who their big Playmakers are which is tough to do right it's tough to grow throughout a season and understand who you are but when you stack wins week after week on top of each other and start to have success you
