F to the college football playoff with the first round buy that goes with it so a lot at stake here as we'll see the number six team in the country the USC Trojans taking on the number one team in the land the Tennessee Volunteers frea sports college football I'm Chris fer here in the booth with Kirk herb Street I think we've talked long enough Kirk let's get this game going [Applause] [Applause] the kickoff team is out there and here we go a conference Championship on the line right now and the returner decides to single fair Catch [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] this line getting set up it's a first down [Music] play off the play fake looking to throw there's contact on the throw and it's picked off he throws it right in the double coverage and pays for it they get him down after a short return what interception gets the football back to the offense at the 36 now the offense is set up with a short [Applause] field and the running back takes the hand off they try to run inside but no to go the defensive line does their job eating up those double teams freeing up the backers to make the play second down play coming up to throw it's a am Mala makes the throw across the middle of the field oh downfield catch made in the left side they bring him down at the five solid game though in the completion has great arm strength and accuracy by this quarterback let's not forget the wide receiver's job of bringing it in for that big game the volunteers looking to punch it in here it's first and goal first and goal hand off and he runs it into the end zone touchdown BS as a defensive coordinator youve got to be careful being so worried about this pass game quarterback that you're a little bit soft up front and it cost you it's exactly what happened here as they score this [Applause] touchdown and it's s nothing after the pat kickoff teams on the field see if they give the returner a chance to bring this one back kick bounces out of the back of the end zone for a [Applause] [Applause] [Music] Touchback and the USC offense is back out on the field see if this quarterback can bounce back the last possession a pick on the very first play a short completion of the tight end but a huge Collision blow delivered there by the linebacker nran hustle to the line to run the hurry up well that's pretty good coverage here by this defense not much of a window to throw this ball into but the quarterback's accuracy and the size the ti end picks up a nice game [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] it's so ball at the 30 this is a manageable third down play for the offense back to pass it's moss and a short pitch and catch to the tight end they bring him down and he makes the four yd line that's a solid game what a clutch play Here by this offense to convert on third down I know it's still early in this game but the fact that they dug themselves a hole to convert there and keep this drive alive they got a new set of downs and a chance to dig into this lead the Trojans line up on First and 10 now PR snap motion from the receiver hand off here comes the Jet Sweep he'll earn the first down but pay for it with a hard hit thing of beauty right Chris a USC running back picking up a first down on the ground and they' got so many great backs that probably as many as anybody when it comes to Counting up individual Stars we're going back to guys like Charles White and Marcus Allen both won the Heisman Trophy the Trojans pick up enough to get a first down there and the ball is handed off out of the shotgun they tackle him behind the line a loss of four they don't block the defensive end who shows some quickness getting around the edge that time yeah this guy's usually getting around the edge to put pressure on the quarterback but he reminds everybody here that this guy's a complete package not only can he pressure the back but also he is very very talented and shows you the physicality he has against the run as well now it's second down here now the play fake he'll look to throw it quarterback leaves the pocket on the Move now on the move but can't find a receiver and he's brought down and I'm shocked this guy is trying to get outside and make a play Chris you know what he's all about the it make a read get the ball out of his hands here he's desperate trying to make a play on the outside really not in his Arsenal it's intercepted tried to fire it into a tight window he's got some room and some blockers here that's a pick and a long return before finally being taken down it's third and long so as an offensive coordinator you can either play it conservative or trust your quarterback and take a shot down field they elect the ladder and it ends up backfiring on and the volunteers offense back out in the field looking for some space it's Samson been a defensive coordinator this week all week telling us about Gap Integrity not giving this running back anyes at all really sound defense on that play second down play coming up quarterback making adjustments now to what the defense is showing to throw it's a am Mala that one Falls incomplet for a flag doesn't get it brings up third down not going to be easy here backed up a long way to go for a first down on third down he drops to throw and he'll lost it to the end zone and he'll get there touchdown Tennessee [Applause] they try to add to the lead now in the bat with the extra point the lead is 14e kickoff team is on the field to boot this one [Applause] away and that one will bounce out of the back of the end zone so a Touchback will start the 25 here comes the USC offense back on the field this drive is important last one end in an interception let's see if they can get it going here stopped after a small gain now look at at second and nine the tro has come to the line to run the hurry up play action fake looking to throw fires it on the Move that's going to be incomplete a lot of contact no flag brings up third down and one final play before the end of the quarter looking down field it's Moss quick throw testing the middle and it's complete downfield defense makes the tackle here on the final play of the first quarter USC Z so here we go first play of the quarter the offense has a first down they're moving the receiver now before the snap On The Run it's O'Neal solid 8yd gain brings up a second and two here comes the uptempo offense quarterback looking to throw it on second down short connection to the tight end here they get him down but the gain moves the ball to the 37 they're going to pick up a first down nice catch but even a better throw to show the accuracy and efficienc from that quarterback spotted my gosh we have so many great quarterbacks over the years that played at USC go back to Carson Palmer the year he won the Heisman what a brilliant career he had for the men of Troy Matt leard big back of those Norm Chow offenses and the Championships that Matt leard won and of course more recently Caleb Williams for Lincoln Riley running and throwing and making throws just like that that completion makes it second and medium off the play fake looking to throw the football he'll try a pass here missed his receiver it's [Applause] [Music] [Applause] incomplete now run this play from the pistol formation looking to throw again grab down the middle it's Robinson they pick up the first out of the 23 getting closer to the Red Zone well that's exactly how you Dice up a Zone coverage nice throw down field here on third down and a really good route to give the quarterback a chance to make that play they'll keep it on the ground with the draw play The Tackle is made after a four yd game so second and six nrj looking to take advantage of the Red Zone trip here looking to pass it's Moss it's caught a quick shovel pass there and he's tackled after the catch the running back that time just kind of sneaks out of the back field and shows his hands on that nice catch crucial third down coming up in the Red Zone can he keep the drive going or will they have to settle for three going to pick up the third and short through the air looking for the tight end and it's caught the tro look to keep this drive moving well this is called settling down in his own defense just kind of finding that soft spot so not only does this tight end show me he's got great athletic ability and great size here he shows me he understands coverage by sitting down in that hole giving to courton and he'll make it in for the score touchdown SC methodical but effective probably one of the most impressive drives we've seen in the conference Championship Game hey I have to agree with you long drives like that are like a great painting slowly layering all the intricate facets until you have a masterpiece completed that drive was put together in the same fashion just masterful execution on that drive and the fair catch signal for and take it [Music] and Tennessee's offense back out on the field now remember last time they scored a touchdown can they keep clicking here or the defense come up with a stop see that's how you limit what an offense wants to do this time the defense just won the battle up front at the line of scrimmage not giv up any big plays everybody's Gap sound it's really solid defense on that play offense getting set it's second down quarterback appears to be changing the play back to throw it's ha am Mala it's incomplete he was hit as he threw that time and now third down coming up well it's pretty simple the defensive line does a great job of getting after the quarterback and forcing him into that incompletion and he'll drop back here on third down taking a shot here and he pulls in the catch this is really what separates a good running back from a great running back instead of just being in check down or imp possibility involved in the screen game this guy's actual wide receiver lined up in the back field that time you could see the versatility and what he brings to theable he can come up with a big play they tackle him but the gain moves the ball to the 36 nothing better than an offense on first down to be able to pick up big positive yards like that you can either keep giving it to the back or it can set up play action and get the defense to come up to the line of scrimmage and you can throw it over top of it the senior able to make the stop after a short game hat on a hat up front good job opening up the holes anytime you can get positive yards on first down that's a [Music] second down after that run on the previous [Applause] play gets the ball up as he's hit but it's incomplete well the defense rolls the dice here on this screen pass if they don't hit this quarterback this is a big play but give him credit they were able to get to him before they were able to complete that pass dropping back look going to throw for the first down looking for the wide out easy throw to a wide open receiver downfield he moves the ball to the seven yd line offense has a first and goal now well this is why this guy is one of the top wide receivers in college football it's third down the defense knows you're probably going to go to him and they still can't stop him from coming down with a big play they try to red in on first and goal makes the catch for the defense breaks in the ball and it's a short gain Chris down here inside a 10 yard line these are tough yards to come by positive yards good push inside there by that offensive line oh it's incomplete that's a good job of the defender to break that up I'm not sure the quarterback makes the right decision on this one I think if he do it over again would have found a different Target down field but he made his decision that one's in complete grab behind the line it's white touchdown volunteers still no answer for this offensive machine with the extra point the lead is 14 is so after the touchdown here's the Ki and we'll see if the opposing offense has time to answer before halftime he's going to return it from deep in theone he'll be tackled at the 18 that's good coverage [Music] [Applause] there and the Trojans offense is back out on the field they've got a choice here the minute they get aggressive try to cut into this lead or play it safe makes a spectacular diving catch they bring him down but the junior quarterback showing off the cannon to throw it's Moss moves left out of the pocket lets it go on the move it's complete what a grab near the sideline and a huge game before he SC out of bound big guards to set up a fresh set of downs I will they be on this first down Play here's the snap looking to throw to screen pass complete to the running back and the runner scoots out of bounds after gaining some decent yardage well that's exactly what you need to do as a receiver in these kind of situations near the end of the half get some positive yards but also stopping the clock is just as important grab near the sticks it's O'Neal got a lane can he get in they finally tackled him down at the one after that catch and run so a timeout is called just a few seconds left here in the first half one more play before they head to the locker room offense looking to throw the ball and it's caught touchdown Southern California now the try here for the extra point the extra point is good down by touchdown 214 so an important touchdown just before half time not much time for the opposing offense to try to answer before the break and the return starts from inside the 20 and they get him down what will be the final play of this first half and that will do it for the first half here Kevin Connors now has our halftime update n Trojans will kick it off begin the second [Applause] half return here from inside the 15 yd line he's brought down at the 28 that's where the drive will start and Tennessee's High powerered offense is back out on the field and they'll start the third quarter here on the ground solid gain moves the ball to the 36 great job by the offensive line here opening up some holes and giving the running back room to run on first down plays like this can open up the playbook for the play caller allow him to make defense think of they going to run maybe play action maybe throw the ball down field quick throw caught on the left side and the runner steps out of bounds but does have enough yardage to pick up the first down defenses all around the country got to do a better job to keep an eye on these little guys from the slot they can dismantle a defense with their speed and quickness in the open space that's a nice tackle there by the senior you know in the RPO game the quarterback's got to make really sound decisions on that read either give it when it's the right time or you pull it out and make the throw here I think he's kind of in that gray area besides to hand it off and at least picked up some positive yards to the air it's a am Mala it's a deep throw down the right sideline caught way down field for a huge game touchdown BS made the defense looked slow that time Conference Championship on the line this quarterback told us this is my time to shine this is my stage C he is delivering well anytime you see a performance like this out of a quarterback it's like the stars are in alignment quarterback's doing his job the play caller is seeing the defense and putting him in a position to have success let's not forget the line and the receivers the job that they're doing as well it's a dream performance so far by this quarterback and he takes this from inside the five and he stopped at the 19 good job by the coverage [Applause] teamc and the USC offense is back out on the field they reached the end zone the last timeout trying to do the same thing here off the play fake looking to throw on first down lets it Go the defender gets a hand in there to break the pass up players just have a real knack for timing their jump and that Defender was able to get a big p on the ball and bat it away so after the incompletion it's second down there's the snap quarterback setting up to throw caught over the middle it's Branch tackle made at the 37 it's a solid game great throw here by this USC quarterback but how about the catch by the wide receiver and Chris we've been saying that for decades when it comes to USC and their wide receivers what incredible history going way back to Len swine I know he was a stealer but it all started when he wore that USC uniform K Johnson had a brilliant career so did Robert Woods and how about amandra St Brown in the job that he did when he was at SC looking down field it's Moss the sophomore able to get home with the sack and just like that you squeeze the life out of this offense that's another sack by this def they have been in that back field the entire game and a big reason why these guys are enjoying a lead quarterback in the shotgun here on third down that's the third put tonight thrown by this QB big takeway now looking for a big return going to take it all the way in pick six touchdown Tennessee with a takeway and the touchdown that is just a dream play for any Defender well let's start with the interception I just the fact that he got his eyes turned around found the football and then has the athletic ability to be able to secure it then he goes back to high school running back days and shows what he can do with the ball in his hands and takes it all the way back for a touchdown beautiful thing with the p it's a three touchdown lead 354e now they get set to kick it away fielded In The End Zone it's hugson it'll be stop short of the 20 yd line good job by the coverage team here comes the UFC offense back on the field it'll be interesting to see if this quarterback can bounce back through a pick six in the last possession here's a screen pass to the running back they him down blocker has not much help on the screen there he's short of the first down a lot of times this can be a tough play to defend because you're so concerned with getting pressure on the quarterback but here they' got him defense comes up with a sack well that takes the wind right out of your sales this offense is trying to find a way to get back into this game and another pressure and a sack against their quarterback drops back looking to throw for it on third down finds his man it's O'Neal you know it's third down as a quarterback you're sitting there back in the pocket trying to find a matchup that you like pretty much everything taken away I like his thought to get it to the running back cuz he's a talented gifted player but he just could not wiggle free to pick up the first down and he's throwing for it on fourth down fires it to the Wi out he's got it that is enough for a first down they make the stop but not before a solid game time just great execution here on this fourth down to keep this drive alive what I love is the accuracy from the quarterback and a good job by the receiver knowing where that route needed to be to be able to catch the ball and pick up the first down breaks loose at the 45 in a big game before he goes out of bounds the offense keeps churning gets a fresh set of downs boy this guy can do it all we know what he can do with his arm but when things aren't there does a good job of pulling it down knowing where the first down marker is picking up the first down back to throw it's Moss looks toward the sideline finds the running back defense drops him for a loss tougher second down on the way this is not how you draw it up as an offensive coordinator you got a first down play and you go backwards now you're behind the sticks and that play just never seemed to have much of a chance at [Applause] all that's the end of the third floor of the score Tennessee 35 UFC 14 here we go first play of the quarter offense setting up for a second down Play here's the snap offense looking to throw the ball it's incomplete he took a hit as he threw the football and it brings up a third down I mean this defense is having their way with this offensive line that poor quarterback doesn't have a chance every time he drops back the throw he's getting earhole you better make some adjustments up front to give and he's intercepted for the fourth time tonight and that's a solid return after the interception boy would this quarterback love to have this one back but trying to work themselves back into this game here in the second half and the defense comes up with a big turnover that could be the nail in the coffin and the volunteers High Tempo offense is back out on the field they really built momentum in this game they've been hard to stop and the defense make some adjustments come up with the stop here well I would just stick with this RPO that's a really solid game and it's plays like this that eventually make that defense collapse down then you can pull it and hit a big play through the air to your receiver second down after that run on the previous [Applause] play the RP caught to the right heads out of bounds after a solid gain more than enough to pick up a first down wa really nice ni throw here the slot receiver and I love the quickness that he has after the catch he's essentially a running back playing at that slot position that's how dangerous he is after he makes a catch it's a big game before he goes out of bounds it'll move the sticks more than enough for a first half and the BS getting set on First and 10 gives it to the back the senior able to make the stop after a short game that's just not a whole lot of option here for this quarterback on the RPO the defense give him credit they did a nice job of sniffing it out wouldn't be surprised if the quarterback is second guessing that decision of giving it to the back instead of pulling that and either running it himself or maybe making a nice throw he's got some room can he get there run finally brought down but at the 5 yd line he getting pushed back here an important fur down conversion coming here in the Red Zone moving the receiver around free snap a pop pass on the Jet Sweep stop right there at the line no game yeah I really like the idea on third down I can kind of see the thought process there make an unconventional call on third down sometimes that can work out but the defense was just prepped and ready for it this time less than a yard to go here on fourth down the offense is going to go for it takes the hand off and he'll head left touchdown volunteers and the route is on so they'll try to add the lead now with the p extra point is good they stretch the lead a little bit Moree 42 UFC [Music] getting set to kick the ball off now and he'll leave the kickoff right there to start with the 25 [Applause] [Music] and the Trojans offense is back out on the field the last possession ended in an interception let's see if they continue to trust this quarterback in the passing game grab down the middle it's O'Neal stopped at the 36 that's good enough theti the troes looking to crank up the tempo a bit looking to throw it on first down but they don't make the connection that one is incomplete in well they don't make the completion here the timing seem to be between a quarterback and the receiver but man this defensive coordinator he may want to consider getting more pressure on this quarterback by changing some things up he got a lot of time back there to throw the ball and eventually it's going to cost you it's incomplete that was caused by the defensive pressure and now it brings up third down they come to the line a long way to go for the first down but needing this crucial conversion right [Applause] now looking to throw it again quarterback ES es the pocket and takes off he's got an open man downfield and it's caught it's a huge gain of Midfield ball will be spotted at the 31 really good job here converting by this offense and let's face it at this point in the game because they have such a big hole to climb out of they've got to be able to convert and come up with a new set of downs they do it here now they got a real shot to cut into this lead second down here time for perhaps just one more play before warning we've reached the two-minute warning here this offense needing to score and then get the football back second down play coming up for this offense dropping back it's moss and that's interception number five when will this QB get the hook going the other way can they stop him return a pick six touchdown BS great job here by the defense coming up with yet another play boy they are just pouring it on today dominating in everye P is good as they build on this big lead now the kickoff team is out on the field doesn't bring the kick out Touchback they'll start at the 25 and the USC offense is back out on the field at this point there's not much you can do except play for Pride on the run here lets it go that's C it's O'Neal they bring him down but an explosive play by this offense big game now they've got to hustle to the line and get set that's the first down off play action here on first down and they hit him just as he releases the ball it's incomplete boy this offense has really struggled today Chris when it comes to throwing the football they have dug themselves a huge hole they're not going to have any chance of coming back and I think one thing about this is you wonder where you go from here you're hoping to make a play or two to give yourself a escapes theet cannot make a play and they sack him the Trojans come to the line in the hurry up looking to throw it on Third and very long let's it Fly of the wide out looks down field and finds a receiver who worked his way wide open tackle finally may but it's a huge game they spot it at the 34 this a big conversion by this offense they're down now in the second half probably limited opportunities at this game every chance you get your hands on the ball you need points they keep this drive alive right here here's the second down play dropping back it's Moss he B some time now lets it go looking right this one caught they wrap him up but the gain is good enough for a first down defense kind of lost the running back here makes a nice catch gets the first the Trojans will line up on First and 10 from inside the Red Zone they're looking to throw quarterback finds an open Target on the left side finally stopped at the four Great catch and run the offense threatening close to the goal line with a new set of downs here's the hand off on first and goal they try the middle but gain nothing on that play see if the offense can punch it in on second and [Applause] goal here's the snap looking to throw here touchdown Trojans his Air Attack is still Unstoppable you can tell that this play caller the offense coordinator think about the future he wants to see how his quarterback and how this offense wants to compete when this game's Out Of Reach he's going to be very happy with the result of his point after knocked right through kickoff team on the field getting set now and he Fields it inside the 15 not much on the return they'll stop him at the 24 good coverage and yourte will take over first first down play call coming up how aggressive will it be receivers now getting some new assignments before the snap dropping back it's a am Mala and it's incomplete just 10 seconds remaining now in college football today the quarterbacks get rid of the ball often so fast that this is a great example for young players on the defensive line if you can't get to the quarterback watch their eyes and try to get your hands up so when the ball comes you can knock it away quick throw to the left and it falls incomplete for just 6 seconds remaining to play offense been in Reverse here now a long way to go to convert this third down dropping back we going to throw for the first down scrambling now he'll make the throw oh that one's picked off and he'll step out of bounds but that is a huge takeway for this defense what a play by the defense really the only way they can get back into this game is to create a turnover they get an interception and they're in business on First and 10 they'll look to throw it last gas the ball's incomplete and that'll do it for the game what a tremendous run these guys have had and now they can call themselves Conference champions that's a tremendous achievement but we have to wait and see what the committee decides to do and if they'll get an invite to the college football playoff and that is going to wrap it up we enjoyed this one here from KK herb street I'm Chris fer
