hello maybe you need a little caffeine or maybe the sheer energy of this matchup will keep you wide awake as we know anything can happen when you kick off after dark as we'll see a squad from the ACC the California Golden Bears taking on the 24th ranked team in the land the Auburn Tigers for EA Sports college football I'm Rees Davis joined here in the booth by David Pock and Jesse Palmer and guys let's get this thing started the Golden Bears will get us underway with the opening kickoff he'll bring it out it's cob he's brought down at the 16 would have been much better off to take the touch back so au's offense will get the first crack at it here and as this star running back comes onto the field everybody in the stadium knows he's going to get it the defense knows it doing something about it is quite a different thing it's hard to stop him he's hard to handle because he can do it in so many ways he can run by you he can run through you he really has the whole package and that's why a superstar and that's why they'll feed him early and often there's always that issue of conference pride of keeping up of proving your worth on this stage and the ACC loves to get a chance at the SEC to do just that and these kids grow up in the same area and you don't think the ACC teams here all the time SEC SEC about the dominance the draft picks all the stuff that goes with it it definitely adds some of that fire it makes you want to beat them more I love these Big Time games yeah they really do David and I think this is one of those games where if you're the ACC team and your players in that locker room you've had this game circled all off seon this game is your opportunity to time to take a shot snatches it on the RO and the tackle was made but not before that completion gets them 30 plus and the Tigers come to the line with a fresh set of downs leaves it with the running back squeezes out a couple of yards down to the 32 they're strong and they're scraw defensive tackles they're strong there's such big jokers in the Middle where they just lock out those offensive linemen and running backs listen they don't have much of a chance when you got that and that pass intercepted God room on the return the 40 the 20 touchdown golden Bears how about that D coming up with a play like that this D gave them exactly what they needed not only with a stop but with a touchdown yeah and finding ways to impact the game early in the game just make impact plays right the defense wants to create sacks create turnovers great job creating the turnover and getting points off of they're lining up to kick it off after the pick six and that defense will come out feeling he'll start the return inside his SP not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 now here comes that Auburn offense onto the field again that last pick six after a drive like that David can swing the momentum of a game going for a big play right off the bat and that ball is hauled in inside the 35 touchdown over reeled it in and just made the house call well I know it's a very small sample size and we got a lot of football to go this year but what can you say about this El how explosive and impressive they look top five in the nation in scoring and you can see why they've got speed and playmakers all over the field and he Ted on the extra point that's the kind of Drive everybody loves he'll see quarterback One Snap put it in the end zone and he'll will just take a knee and this drive will start at the 25 the Golden Bears offense taking the field first chance we have to see them today and what a great matchup we have of two highly productive Runners David and I like the competition aspect of this R like I'm watching what you're doing on the other side and I'm going to prove I'm a better running back than you both these guys are looking to be the get anyone catching and the explosive play and they're on the move all the way to the 44 and the Golden Bears Moving quickly to the line I know it's early in the game but defensively after that play you know you have to tackle the catch when this guy gets the ball in his hands he is so dangerous after the fact so it's okay for him to make catches just got to get him to the ground quickly looking to throw it's Rogers got his man quickly stopped after making the catch decb Rising as the crowd get Gets behind this defense on third down from the gun wants to pass throwing right and they can't make the play on third down the Golden Bears will send out the punt unit he ought to be able to use this first punt to pin him deep no return possible on this one it goes out of bounds and they'll mark it right around the 30yd line and Auburn is ready to go back to work on offense how big is this drive scored a touchdown the left and he can't escape and down he goes and he gets home again continuing his production last week two sacks this week already a sack in the first half this guy has been on a sack Terror he's looking for a man on second down quarterback just flat missed it incomplete you normally don't see this guy Miss throws like that that was a pretty short throw he can normally make those in a sleep but with the incompletion we're Now setting up third down I'm not positive but that first down marker might be in the next County quarterback making adjustments with his receivers on on Third and long he'll need to loosen up that arm and the pass is intercepted and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception a great spot to start this drive for the offense they'll leave it with him he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 from the shotgun the inside K stumbled to the ground third and short from the 22 is the field goal unit getting ready or is this already four down territory they'll stick to the ground looking for the marker they get him on the ground but not before he rumbles all the way to the five and the Golden Bears trying to get a touchdown on first and goal running back goes in motion quick pass on the jet motion really nice stop there from this senior leader they've moved it forward to the two now it's second and [Applause] goal he PLL it on the read nowhere to run on that when he loses four on the carry they' love to make this short field pay off with a touchdown instead of a field goal but it's third and goal back to throw it's Rogers he got it they will score touchdown cow well just as you would expect that didn't take very long it didn't Rees and you've got to make great field position count when you got opportunities you got to pay it off and the offense took advantage scoring a touchdown didn't have far to go but they got the points they needed almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown fielded In The End Zone it's h not nearly as much as he' hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 now here comes that Auburn offense onto the field again after throwing the pick on the last drive need to take care of the ball this time Jesse we're going to find out a lot about this quarterback right here too how does he fight through adversity after that last Drive yeah clear the mechanism move on that that's a part of it right if you're going to be a great player you got to learn how to handle these mistakes and move on going to throw it over the top of the knee and it's picked off again his night vision hasn't been on par and he's wrapped up after a solid return on the pick I tell you what it puts you in a tough position when you're backed up inside your own 20 trying to come out but when you're a defense and you can force a turnover and you already set your offense up in scoring position they are going to be extremely happy and that offensive coordinator is going to look extremely smart the Golden Bears headed quickly to the line out of the shotgun they go to the ground not a lot of room down here he's able to pick up two it's down at the 12 they'll try to drive ahead on Third and short they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one here comes the field goal unit as they'll try to take the three between the uprights it's good and they'll push that lead out a little further after putting up a three- spot the kickoff unit set to go you've got to make the opponent pay for turning the football over and while this team would have lik to have scored a touchdown off that pick I think they're pretty happy getting the field goal and the returner runs out of real estate as he goes down and Auburn is ready to go back to work on offense well the good news about this drive Jesse it can't go worse than last time through a pick on the first play no it certainly can't I think one good way David to help your quarterback turn going over the top and that'll be incomplete they tried to hit him with a big one on first down but let's see what they've got on second down looking to throw it's Thorne a little screen to the running back and that did not work defense smelled that one out from the beginning I like the play call on offense I like you trying to get the running back involved in the past game too defense was ready for that one let's see what you got dialed up on third you make up the game plan and not a lot on the play sheet for this third and long from inside their own 20 they're setting up the screen they play that screen nicely he tried to find his way to the marker but it'll be fourth down as they get set to snap at time winding down here in the quarter on fourth down looking to pass complete and looking for enough for the first down they finally get him stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some lanes for their running back that's the end of the period and Cal is on top man that was an impressive and dominant first quarter let's take a look at the stats before we move on now the challenge here they've taken a punch but they can't let it get out of hand as we start the second Auburn ready to go back to work after getting another first down they'll try the run good pick up on the ground and they'll Mark him down at the 39 they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three good pick up there as he gets the first down and they'll Mark him at the 48 Auburn to the line in a hurry the Tigers dating to the days of sh Jordan and Pat dive love to keep the ball on the ground and the stadium goes nuts and the eagle flies and everybody's happy run the football win football games it's good times on the planes oh man there's some big hitting going on in the trenches right now this defense they take a lot of pride in stopping the Run let's keep our eye on them throughout the course of the game and see if they can contain this running attack didn't get much on first down it's second and nine after the run run run now to throw grabbed over the middle it's Po and a't knock him down but he got past the line the game and a really good job by the quarterback being very decisive he saw his match up he went for it he attacked it got the positive game I would say he's going to find that guy a few more times today throws toward the end zone and it's caught touchdown tiger I'm going to spread you sideline to sideline with all my speed make you cover the whole field nice job by the offense go with a little spread look taking advantage of the speed they had on the field and getting the big touchdown back to throw it's Thorne they've got the screen set up and he strolls into the end zone and gets the two about to kick it off after punching it in for the [Applause] touchdown and they thought about a return Then thought better of it they'll bring it out to the 25 the Cal offense is headed back onto the field always good to get points on a drive David but Chip Shot field goals can leave you a little empty yeah I think it's great to get with the great teams get touchdowns in the red area you got to get out there this time and execute a little better on this drive you're absolutely right David generally the best Red Zone offenses are the ones that run the ball the best so let's see if they can be a little bit more physical on this drive using the quick game excellent job working through the air there finding a hole in that defense and picking up a first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs a little pre snap eye candy for the defense they're bringing heat and incomplete on the Deep ball and as an offense you want to stay aggressive you want to keep calling these downfield shots I know you didn't complete that one but you want to send a clear message you're trying to take the top off this defense you keep calling downfield shots you soften up the coverage you get those safeties playing deep that's going to open up your running game later on on Third and long trying to have a big completion here and how nice is it to have the home crowd going absolutely bananas communication is harder the the snapping the football everybody being on time man this crowd really affecting the football game and they'll bring him down to get the offense started on the next [Applause] Drive looking for a productive play on first down he wants to throw and he was hit just as he released it and it falls to the turf couldn't make the connection on first down now here on second back to pass it's Thorne setting up the screen Quick Step and go they'll make the stop but not before they use the screen beautifully and pick up the first down the Tigers racing to the line in the hurry up and they executed that running back screen to Perfection quarterback held on and they couldn't hold off the heat and he goes down with the sack that's a bad sign for the offense you're trying to throw screen passes to try to negate the pass rush from the defense that time the pass rush even got home on a screen [Applause] pass they'll snap it from the 25 here on second and long 42 SPID motion from the offense on second down wants to throw safe completion on the screen and he'll step across the sidelines after making a good gain on that one well a nice Gainer on that running back screen how about the offensive line getting down field and getting blocks to really help out the back find some space to go to work pressure coming going to try to pop one on the screen and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this just no gain land Auburn sends out the punting unit not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch Cal gets it back the sturdy Golden Bear offense on its way to the field here's another opportunity Jesse to stretch out this lead after punting last time I think it goes back to your Playmakers reys I think it's finding the guys that have been working for you earlier on in this game and getting them the football yeah and there's obviously no to panic I mean think about it you got the lead you got the football you got to be smart with the football make your plays put a good drive together here well the linebacker showing you read and react he knew exactly where that running play was going and he beat the football through the line of scrimmage and forced the tfl to the air it's Rogers looking to the big tight end pulls it in great pick up as they'll keep this drive moving and they've got it at the 45 and the Golden Bears come to to the line with a new set of downs quick strike complete he stopped just a chain Linker two away from the first down and sets them up beautifully here great job by the offense being patient understanding when they're in zone coverage I got to hit those Tight Windows make those precise passes to get those big plays got it in the middle it's a makes the grab and it's enough for the first down before he's dragged to the ground here's this offense with a fresh set of downs he'll just keep slinging it throws to the wide out it's complete and he's brought down after a nice game and when you get Zone coverage and you're running curls and the wide receiver Sprints off the ball you know what happens that DB starts to bail and that wide receiver comes back and it's easy pitch and catch for the offense and makes the grab in the end zone touchdown golden bears and I just love the execution by this offense late in the half man you want to take the lead you want to get that momentum on your side and they do it they finish it with the passing game and I tell you what heat that passing game up you can keep this lead keep the momentum and keep putting up numbers he'll bring it back from inside to five couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 now here comes that Auburn offense onto the field again this late in the half you're behind you'd love to create something before the break to build momentum Jesse well you've also had some miscues on offense a big part of why you're losing the game right now I'd take it into halftime make my adjustments and come out ready in the second half yeah I'm going to take it in halftime too Paul but I'm trying to put some points up right here be aggressive set the tone be like Hey listen this is what you're going to get in the second half so find something really quickly you can go to quarterback checking off looking downfield it's Thorne he wants to take the top off pulls it in inside the 10 touchdown over and once he got loose it was all over and I tell you what that passing touchdown man that should spark this whole team like The Comeback is more than on now like they got the touchdown they cut into the lead you you want to get a stop and go into the half get all the juices all the excitement and be like listen the passing game's rolling we got this The Comebacks in full effect so they got the touchdown and as they kick off really important for the defense to shut them down here and it'll come out to the 25 no attempt at a return the Cal offense is headed back onto the field they've got some time to work with here Jesse and if they get a first down they might really get aggressive I'd be aggressive right out of the gate I'd be throwing for a first down if I get it then it's pedal to the metal I'm in that two-minute mode to try to score a touchdown or get a field but I do think this is a situation where you also have to understand that I have the lead going in their half I've got the momentum so don't do anything stupid here on second down looking to throw got it set up on the outside and he'll make his way out of bounds after the solid pickup and this offense I think will do a good job in this game divvying up the football and distributing it to different guys in the passing game it won't just be receivers it's not going to be tight ends this running back he's a weapon too after he catches it you saw it right there he finds his man the offense will have to use its first timeout of the half I got to be honest guys I'm a little surprised by the coverage on that play it's third and short you can't allow a hitch route to pick up the first down you've got to have way tighter coverage than finds his man the clock will stop with this timeout from the offense they'll get a chance to regroup on the sideline now they'll line it up from the 44 on First and 10 he's looking to throw it feeling some heat hit hard as he released the ball on that first down pass and it never had a chance second and 10 after the previous play scanning the field it's Rogers It's On Target and complete the offense will stop the clock and use one of its timeouts and quarterback receiver on the same page nice job seeing the Zone understanding the drag route concept easy pitch easy catch running out of time here in the first half they're going to have to be efficient to put some points on the board before the break on third down he drops to throw just threw that one away to avoid disaster third and long situations are really hard to convert the defense knows it's going to be passed the pass rushers are getting up field you're under pressure you don't have timing and as a result now fourth down maybe one notch of adrenaline too much on the punt there it hits about a yard Deep In The End Zone it'll come out to the 20 they'll have just enough time to get one more snap before the half a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get four points on the board before the half barring a penalty this will be the final play of the first half on First and 10 looking to move it through the air he lets it Fly and he makes the grab and gets the foot down what a job for a huge game there we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connors in our halftime update fellas Yan's work in Auburn Alabama so far and wel welome into the halftime report each of these two offenses has looked like well oiled machines but it doesn't take a genius to figure out these two passing attacks have run circles around these defenses man or Zone nothing seems to be working and I'm not sure that defensive coordinator is going to be able to figure things out here at halftime and with that let's send it back to the guys at Pat die field in Jordan hair just about set here in the second half as Auburn about to kick it off and they desperately wanted to attempt a return but decided not to instead they'll take the Touchback C gets it back the sturdy Golden Bear offense on its way to the field they got plenty done through the air in the first half and we'll see if they even need to look for balance as we start the third quarter well and I I think defensively you understand like the running game isn't a big part of the plan I wonder how they adjust and play more coverage to this pass at the offense yeah so you're going to have to be ready if you're a quarterback then you're probably going to see some different coverages you might see a little bit more Blitz in the second half as well so you have to know know where your answers are the Golden Bears will hustle to the line wants to throw it's Rogers he's got his man gets it to the 42 yd line and that's a first down that was a really well-run route on the curl to pick up the first down yeah and it's a nice job too by the receiver getting his depth and then finding space in between the Defenders giving his quarterback a nice Target and he's brought down after a nice game game and the Golden Bears are moving quickly down the field the give from the gun cross it the 30 he got a lane what a good run there he has enough for the first down the Golden Bears come to the line with a fresh set of downs it's a draw and maybe they want to try somewhere else because there is nothing doing in the middle of this defense got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 he's looking to throw fires left makes a connection and he makes a grab defense draped all over him and it's first and goal at the nine he'll keep it himself they get him on the ground at the three yd line but this defense is taking some punches now second and goal and right in the teeth of this noise he's looking to throw pulls it in in the end zone touchdown cow that's his third touchdown pass of the day the defense has no clue how to respond right now no and the defense has had absolutely no answer he's been on the money he's been on fire making the right decisions and just carving this defense up about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown and here's the return he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they' get him on the ground at the 20 and Auburn is ready to go back to work on offense they are trailing by 10 here Jesse but this is the type of team that seems comfortable in an offensive shootout you got to hold serve at this point right you got to drive the field put some more points up on the board yeah they just scored you can answer that now and keep this thing close DAV and I think you're used to that as offense like football is so fast-paced now and you score so quickly it's not that big of a deal to get down 10 you keep being you keep being aggressive looking for a man it's Thorne he's going for a big play downfield and that'll be incomplete man that would have been a big hitter on first down but second Down's coming up couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again on second down they'll take to the air he makes the catch and he's knocked down Auburn lines up quickly quarterback changing the plays at the [Applause] line they'll throw on Third and short looking down the middle working on the right they've got it to the 49 yd line and they'll move the chains his offense lines up feeling awfully good after that big play well look that wasn't a touchdown that was a massive play for this offense they needed some momentum they needed to find a rhythm in what better way than converting on third down awesome job by the quarterback getting F progression yeah and you use these running back so much in the passing game now and you expect him to make those plays for you to make those big explosive plays out of the back field just got to make sure he concentrates and see that ball come in here comes the offense on second down wide receiver now comes in motion they'll throw it to the back on the screen a pick up of eight now to convert this third and two and this offense is desperate to keep this drive alive trailing by multiple possessions and it's getting late they'll run for it on Third and short dragged down to the turf but not before getting the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs going up top on first down they'll run the screen they stop him at the 22 15yd pickup on the play and a first down just outside the Red Zone well this quarterback now has over 400 yd passing to do that you have to have weapons catching the ball you've seen that in this offense all game long there are some dangerous Playmakers in the perimeter to the air it's Thorne get it out on the screen got some room headed to the goal line gets out of bounds after the big game but they've got it first and goal and there you go you see you don't have to throw bombs to get big plays in the passing game just screen it to your running back as soon as he catches it he gets up field and how about the and he takes it in for the score touchdown Tigers this coaching staff was trying to identify Playmakers on offense early this year how about the start of the season this guy has had scored in their first game he scored early in this one defenses up to this point don't have any answers for this guy lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive he'll bring it out it's Hunter I know he thinks he can house every return but sometimes you just have to take a knee as he stopped at the 14 the cow offense is headed back onto the field he's going to pass makes your grab down the left side he's loose the 10 touchdown Golden Bears and they add six more to the board with that trip to the house and he finds the end zone I tell you what man this guy is going to be a force you look at this offense they find different ways to get him the football different ways to use him three times now he's entered the end zone in not even two full games yet this dude's a playmaker and he takes this from inside the five and the coverage team able to wrestle him [Applause] down now here comes that Auburn offense onto the field again the deficit here is just 10 points David So a chance to answer here plenty of time left in this football game no need to panic this offense just has to put a couple Drives together and listen the defense will get this back and get some stops cmer and get you the football back and I think I think here too and it's his fourth interception of the night he'll try to take it back and they capitalized not only on the pick but the great return to give the offense tremendous field position what a gamechanging play by this defense nice job you got them backed up in their own territory coming out now you force the turnover set your offense up with some great scoring field position and he's able to shed one tackle but still just a very short gain operating in the Red Zone here on second down looking for a physical attack from the gun he steps and powers and works his way they finally get him down at the two listen you you got to be able to know what play to call and what hole to go through like the line blocks for a certain hole good job getting through the hole getting what was block in a nice positive game making your situation really good on the next down he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and for the second time tonight they'll Trot out the field goal kicker and he'll try it from the right hash and the angle shouldn't be too bad from this distance thought he had it and couldn't get it through the upright he missed it guys a double digit lead is good but more would have been better and Auburn is ready to go back to work on offense well let's see if this drive goes better than the last one they were in and out quickly after the quick pick David yeah first play and the defense makes a play sacking him back at the 10 looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out dealing with a second and 10 from the 20 receivers telling the quarterback what they see flight going to attack through the air trying to get to it and his first throw here is incomplete there's nothing better than being a defensive lineman and a defense period that pressure the quarterback that gets hits on him that make him feel uncomfortable especially when you come into their building and you get everybody really really quiet that's a great feeling on Third and long a check down would be the last resort oh the Freshman lucky that one didn't get picked off well in the first half this offense was up and down the field it seemed like everything they were dialing up was working and here we are in the third quarter and there's a very rare incompletion on their own end of the field maybe that's the play the defense needs now to spark some momentum C gets it back the sturdy Golden Bear offense on its way to the field we talk about settling for points but sometimes when you have to settle for nothing David it can be demoralizing yeah it can definitely be frustrating and I think it leads you to say maybe I go for it more but Jesse I think this offense just needs to put another drive together and just finish strong yeah and and be a little bit less predictable too especially as they get closer and closer down to the end zone and they'll move the change with the first down but that might be it for the third quarter and talk about spreading the ball around everyone getting a chance to show off the hands based on the number of targets we've seen one more period to go to see who can make the winning plays and come home with the victory they'll break the seal on this quarter here on first down he wants to throw he's got his man and he goes out of bounds after coming up with positive yardage there and the Golden Bears want to pick up the tempo it'll be a draw they wrestle him to the ground but he's got plenty for a first down the Golden Bears look to keep this drive humming might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again they get him on the ground a 6yd run in the Red Zone down to the 11 six-yard pickup on first down leaves him with second and four the give on the inside and he's sprinting he'll take it all the way touchdown cow the offense strikes again to extend its lead here in the second half and they got everything working how great is this you extend your lead now you get your defense back on the field great job taking advantage of the situation and building on that lead and he added the extra [Applause] point the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty the kickoff team out there to boot it away in 15 yds farther up the field after the roughing the kicker penalty offense set on first down quarterback will audible they'll throw it on first down release to the back the short hands it's Hunter and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play you love to deliver a punch on the first play of the drive they've got it at the 46 on first down he's looking to throw it they're trying to get to it can't find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down and the quarterback gets hit again we already know this defense has gotten home to him multiple times in this game so here you are you're trailing in the game defense knows you're going to throw it they're pinning their ears back you can't feel very confident right now now if you're the play caller certainly if you're the quarterback that you're going to have time to throw they keep attacking through the air lost the defense he's wide open he got loose almost house it finally dragged down at the 32 the Tigers have it with a first and 10 how about that big tight end getting downfield and then finding nobody home yeah he did a really nice job getting the depth on his route but also give him credit because he found the soft spot in the zone making that a real easy completion and oh he was Off to the Races after the catch and they finally drag him down squirel squirel they're threatening to score and they'll throw it and into the end zone he goes touchdown tigers [Applause] [Music] no backs with the quarterback as they line up for the two 24 black 24 four let's go whoops someone moved a little bit early offense going to pick up a 5yd penalty so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty how about this these guys are going for two jackb white wants to throw it using the back as a receiver on the screen worked on the touchdown might as well do the same thing on the two-point conversion he gets all eight points on that trip almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown coming out with it it's hunter that is a decision he will likely regret he brings it out of The End Zone and he's knocked down at the 10 first down here for the offense looking to move it through the air trying to get rid of it and it's incomplete they were looking for the huge gain on first down he didn't have a whole lot of time to get rid of that one the defense was all over him right after the snap no wonder that thing fell second and 10 here from the gun the ground game pushes forward for three out to the 13 man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out listen to this crowd just shaking the girds of this place trying to help their defense he looks that one in nicely they're able to get him stopped just shy of the first down Mark and the Golden Bears line up to punt it away he only needs a sliver of daylight coverage team was down there to Corral him they made the Stop and they'll mark it at the 39 now here comes that Auburn offense onto the field again that last touchdown Drive was surgical through the air Jesse it sure was and that's why this offense is so dangerous David because they can score in a hurry because hit the gas kid wide open thee they ripped off a big one and they get it down to the 27 Auburn to the line in a hurry man this offense is so dangerous re they've got dudes all over the field that can make plays there's a big gainer in the pass game you get a chunk of yards like that now the defense is really on its heels throws to the back grabbed in the middle it's Hunter and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pick up well down two possessions good news is you get the completion bad news though did not get out of out of bounds you know right now saving the clock that is at a premium for this offense Auburn doing business in the Red [Applause] Zone the give to the back they'll get him stopped just short of the end zone but they're in business here with a first down first down you know you always want to establish the running game how about this offense nothing fancy run the football be physical get a big game they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and the D deny them on second and goal he worked his way ever closer all the way down to the one yd line they desperately need to get the score here on Third and goal to have any kind into the end zone he goes touchdown robber well with the moment hadn't shifted before certainly has now it has and now you got some game pressure right that's beautiful now the defense comes out get you a stop get aggressive but the offense a little bit of pressure now cuz they know if the ball goes back to the other side they can lose this ball game and they did tack on the extra point by the way knocked it right down the middle about to kick it off after punching it in for the [Applause] touchdown he thought about bringing that out for a half second but he'll take a knee and they'll bring it to the 25 the Cal offense is headed back onto the field okay Justin this is a little bit of a tight spot you'd love to be aggressive enough to get the first down but you've got to take care of the ball first no doubt I was going to say ball security is at a premium you cannot turn the football over at this point the defense has three timeouts left David so probably conservative play calling here you're expecting them to try to run to ice this game conservative I know they're going to be aggressive but I also know that one first down ends this football game smart move to keep it on the ground that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there Ball's at the 29 defense can taste getting off the field it's third and long they're trying to slow that Rush down with the draw and they'll get it to the 39 yd line and they'll move the chains the golden Bears will try to run out the clock in this final minute secondary walks up on the line showing press [Applause] coverage they'll give it to the back trucks through the he smashes his way through again and how about that what the doctor always ordered an explosive play to the 40 defense takes a timeout with 30 seconds remaining their work here is virtually done no need to take any more chances they'll line up in Victory formation this quarterback happy enough to take a knee and head to the locker room but the defense still does have a couple of timeouts if they want to use them this one was a lot like a tennis match back and forth up and down and they just couldn't quite score enough and get the key stop to get the win and defenses have changed right it's not about limiting to low points anymore but you got to find ways to create turnovers and get that ball back to your offense so they can do their damage defense just needed to create a few more opportunities I think it just came down to individual effort on the defensive side of the football for this team somebody needs to step up in big moments in big games and make the play to win we didn't see it happen today that's going to do it
