welcome to Huntsville Texas and Elliot T Bowers Stadium home to the Bearcats of Sam Houston State who have built a rich winning Legacy and one that they hope follows them to the upper reaches of college football and this is the kind of game college football fans love because they don't have to wait for the weekend for this Conference USA Showdown as we'll see the winners of six straight the Western Kentucky Hill Toppers taking on the winners of three straight the Sam Houston Bearcats for EA Sports college football I'm Rees Davis joined here in the booth as always by David Pollock and Jesse Palmer guys let's tee this one up the Bearcats will putot it away to start the game he'll start the return inside is five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the hill Toppers offense is on the field for the first time today and here he comes a man who epitomizes the phrase the tight end's always open David yes he is Reese and it's so cool the tight end position now is inv Bol so much you can move him all over the field and you can really highlight a guy of his ability too big for safeties to cover and too fast for linebackers to cover this is a weapon they've got to take advantage of give to the back and he's got enough for the first down it'll be at the 35 and listen the offensive line has to do their job but a really good job by the running back understanding where his hole is go hit it get the first down don't mess around nice job following his hole getting positive yards got his man quickly and good coverage by the defense just a short gain they're trying to throw the wide receiver screen to pick up that first down but the def just too much speed getting to the ball carry on that one quarterback making adjustments with his receivers getting some heat and the defense is all over the quarterback and down he goes and I'm putting that one in my back pocket I'm going to start it I'm going to highlight it that Blitz came home we are going to need that down the road and I'll be ready to call out now this offense facing a third and long from their own 30 and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down and the hill Toppers will putt this one away first one of the day is booted away they ran him out there four times in the victory last week the Bearcats offense will go to work for the first time as we take a look at our impact players for this one what are you looking for Jesse for a guy to make an impact well these are simply put the leaders of this football team and generally games go how these guys play they make plays they've got a shot to win this one no doubt they got to show up these are the team leaders these guys have to play well if they're going to win the football game little too much juice on that one from the junior man as a quarterback you got to be careful he's lucky there if you miss high throwing over the middle of the field often times that results in interception so lucky that ball was incomplete here's the hand off he'll push his way out to the 38 pick up of three I'll tell you this is a running back who's very very dangerous and the defense did a good job getting him down there but they got to do a great job gang tackling because this is a guy that can break tackles and turn those types of plays into home runs got him in it's Phillips drag down to the Turk but not before getting the first down the marcat come to the line with a new set of downs the give to the back n working there it'll be second and nine you definitely want to commit to the Run game you you want to establish the Run game you want the defense to honor it but if it doesn't work a little later down the road you might think about airing that puppy out back to pass it's bow gets it out fast and just a short safe pass play they pick up a few during the week you got to talk to your quarterback quarterback what do you like what's your favorite safest routes easiest reads love coming out with those early with a short passing game throws to the wide out it's caught he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down the bear cats are moving quickly down the [Applause] field the give to the running back from the shotgun he got a bunch and look close to getting a lot more but he's got the first down you got to be what you're seeing from your offense here on the opening drive of this game they're in a really nice Rhythm they've got real good balance going on right now and they've got the defense on their heels listen you you got to be able to know what play to call and what hole to go through like the line blocks for a certain hole good job getting through the hole getting what was blocked getting a nice positive gain making your situation really good on the next down he's got it on the Run they make the stop at the 5 yd line but they've got first and goal these guys are called matchup guys they're not the biggest guys on the field but they're going to win short and they're going to catch the ball and they're going to make yards after the catch you can tell those are the type of guys in college football that are starting to get maximized and used a lot more than they were in the past and that's just an example of the defense having a better play call than you have on offense I like the creativity offensively but how about the defense having their cornerback in position throw to the end zone picked off and he's brought down after the pick but not before putting his offense in business well coming into this game this offense knew that points were going to be at a premium if you can't score touchdowns down here in the Red Zone you at least got to come away with field goals but you can't do that if you're throwing interceptions that's just poor execution by the offense they wrestle him to the ground but he's got plenty for a first down and here we go if you're an offense you got to get that ground gain going so you can have some balance and then you give it to your quarterback Palmer and let him make some plays down the field later on yeah exactly and know coming into this game this offense knew they were going to have to someway somehow at least establish the semblance of a running game for exactly what you just said you got to be able to use play action pass later in this game to get some explosive plays down the field and it's a play like that that we just saw which can help them get that going now on second down after the short completion looking for a man it's Fenley he makes the connection they make the stop but not before they do their work up top and pick up a first down I'll tell you what that's great execution between the QB and receiver they looked like they could execute that throw in their sleep quarterback took his steps threw it on time great route by the receiver nice job secing the catch small gain I know but again the defense knows he's going to run the football he's willing to run the football not just drop back and pass make him on to the Run game you got to do a lot of this [Applause] [Applause] solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six he's looking to throw that pass is incomplete and they're probably fortunate that it wasn't knock free for a fumble we're already in the first quarter but already you get the feeling this could be a long day for this QB he's already been sacked he gets hit right there on the incomplete throw they've got to find a way to do a better job up front of protecting this guy or it's going to be difficult to put up points couldn't find his man last time and that leaves him with a third and six from the gun wants to pass and a missed opportunity on third down is it knocks it free and fourth down is coming up this is a point where you just got to be able to focus in the critical down and distances in this game like that third down right there when it's a good throw you got to make the catch you got to be able to make that play this is an area of the field where it's really advantageous to just go for it fires to the wide out and the pass is intercepted not a lot on the return but they can live with that as they've got it at the 49 Zone equals eyes when I say that DBS linebackers all covering the middle of the field so many guys over the middle of the field trying to take away the easy stuff but reading the quarterback's eyes the whole time whenever to throw that football and that hand separates from the ball I'm breaking on it you can tell they had a beat on it nice Cut nice instincts give me that in got the completion on the last play still some work to do on second down trying to make that Rush think on the draw play here and the defense holds firm no pick up at all on that play that back had absolutely no to run the football actually is he counting I think he's counting to make sure there's only 11 guys on defense trying to move the sticks on third down looking to throw it's Bower pocket starts to collapse and that pressure just engulfed him a sack for this defense awesome job by the defense not only getting a fast quarterback on the ground but understanding what he wants to do he can take off I got to make sure I got good Pursuit angles and I got got to make sure I build rails I can't let him outside I got to keep him in the pocket he tries to get outside they get the sack and get the huge loss time winding down in the quarter as they come to the line they'll leave it with him they make the Stop and that will likely bring us to the end of the first quarter how about these two running games so far dominance on the ground as we look at the first quarter steps let's see if the offenses can find a little rhythm here in the [Applause] second will start the quarter offense about to snap it on second [Applause] down quick release by the QB that one could really put this drive into high gear as they have a first down at the 37 that was a really nice catch and an even better run after the grab yeah and get the ball to your playmaker what's good about having him in the slot is he can go either direction you can get him matched up on somebody that's not as fast and you watch he can run away from those linebackers or safeties well you're making a positive out of a negative and that time quarterback nice job buying time he's trying to throw the football ball downfield nothing there so instead of throwing it away getting the incomplete just get what you can get and make this next down more manageable and he has a solid gain before the defense bottles him up that didn't bust for a long one but now third down becomes very manageable it's not third in eternity now the whole Playbook short passing game long passing game all of it's available will they keep it on the ground again here on third down finally pulled down but not before moving the change for a first down really nice job on third down by this offense this offense has struggled on third Downs throughout the season not even in the top 50 but you know what when you make it third and short you can when you have the Run pass option and you're not predictable you can be more successful so we'll see if this offense can continue to put themselves in good positions all right well the offense here they're trying to get this run game established they obviously don't break off a long run there but they're just trying to find their footing at this point picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down looking for a man it's Fenley they're setting up the screen he's close to the first down but they're going to Mark him just a little short well a nice Gainer on that running back screen how about the offensive line getting running down field and getting blocks to really help out the back find some space to go to work third down conversions are huge and they've got one and they're at the 35 and another nice game by the offense all right defense we got to change something up here they they're putting a big drive together play after play having a lot of success how do we break the Rhythm how do we give them something that can create a tackle for a loss or a sack or something to get momentum back on my side what a cut now he's loose and they'll finally bring him down after he Rifts off a huge Play What a run great speed great vision elusiveness and David he's tackle down close to the goal line yeah and this offense when you can run the football like this man you will have success especially in the Red Zone trying to get touchdowns drag down at the six after a pick up of two defense trying to come up with a stop on second and goal the run up the middle here looking for a path to the end zone Relentless tough running gets it down to the four all right so now you're in this third down situation close to the goal line and it just feels David like they're going to have to throw the football in order to score a touchdown here I like maybe trying and he's sprinting he'll take it all the way touchdown topper if you're able to move the ball in a drive like that the most overrated stat in football would be field position agreed and I think confidence is Big right now after that last drive to be able to flip the field like that not just do it but go down and score a touchdown running and throwing for this off moving forward in this game that last Drive is going to pay big dividends and they thought about a return Then thought better of it they'll bring it out to the 25 the Bearcat offense ready to go back to work last time David it was one two three kick the last drive that three and out sometimes that puts your defense in a bad spot and you got to get a drive together here so you don't wear the defense out I just think David too predictable that last Drive they got to do something here to get this defense on their heels and you want to run the football that's okay you'll take some of these but if they start to add up down the road obviously you might want to think about airing it out a little they give it to him again and a really nice run and pick up there before the defense avoided disaster and stopped a really big play you ain't getting by all these guys right up the middle unless your offensive line and your tight ends and everybody is putting in the work up front committing to blocking the running back does a great job finding the hole exploding through how about that nice big huge game if I'm the OC let's call that one again now on second down EAS they'll switch it up here and look to throw and that's going to be incomplete a lot of contact on the play but no Flags it'll be third down they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one on Third and long try to convert through the air working the middle of the field and it's complete oh what a big play for this offense if they get it to the 33 yd line and the Bearcats have it with a first and [Applause] 10 looking to throw it's Bower he finds his man and they pick up just a few on that completion you see it more and more smaller wide receivers I don't care about their size anymore I put him in the slot I let him get a good match up they're so quick people can't get their hands on them they make plays and I feed him to football these are guys that have a lot of catches throughout a season that's a ball that this offense should be able to complete had the coverage they wanted receiver ran on the route just an inaccurate throw by the quarterback they're within field goal range at the 29 let's see if they can pick up a few or the first down on Third and long looking to throw it again oh they really could have used that catch their physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down and it looks as if they're going to try a field goal no good and they couldn't cut into the lead it's still a seven-point gameu Z here comes the Western Kentucky offense back onto the field you want to talk about a drive where you impose your will that's what they did running it down for a touchdown David there is nothing more demoralizing than that for a defense to be physically pounded the run is coming you know it's coming and you can't stop it nothing the defense can do that is mono Mano up front and your guys getting a push they know you're running it and they still can't stop you On Target to the left brought down at the 47 yd line after the 15yd pickup from the gun the running back has it at the 35 he's got room they'll finally get him on the ground but not before he makes it to the 30 and gets a first down he wants to throw makes the catch it's Hutchinson the offense waste no time getting the timeout call I think really good wide receivers do a good job of making every route kind of look the same you could tell he this looked like a vertical route so if I'm a DB I'm bailing and all of a sudden he sits that hitch down nice job by the wide receiver create enough separation to create a positive game quick strike complete put it right on him sweet play good pick up and they'll move the chains with the first down [Applause] he's going to pass and he has a solid gain on the play before sliding timeout called by the offense and now they just have one remaining in the half nice job by the QB sitting back in the pocket you can tell he wants to throw the football go through his progressions nothing home take off and slide I love the slide at the end don't take a big shot had it in his hands for the score and let it fall to the turf it'll be third down boy they'd love to pick up this conversion and go to work with a first and goal back to pass it's Fenley going for six it falls incomplete he was trying to find his man for six now on fourth down here comes the field goal team and that is no good and the margin is still seven after the Miss guys well everybody in the stum thought that was an automatic three not so fast bad Miss by the kicker the beat offense ready to go back to work now you find out just how much of a gunslinger you are will you roll the dice here late in the half David and you know the defense is going to be really really conservative so I think it's an opportunity to be able to take a shot see how much of a chunk you can get before then you decide really Jesse how you want to finish the half you just can't turn it over and throw a pick if you're the quarterback here you have got to be so smart if you're going to be aggressive with your decision Mak he'll be brought down and that's the final play of the half first half in the books time now to join Kevin Connors in our halftime update guys time for everyone to take a deep breath and digest what we just saw in Huntsville the hill Toppers will boot it away to start the second [Applause] half and it'll be a Touchback the ball will come out to the 25 yd line the beercat offense ready to go back to work after the lack of production in the first half plenty to talk about let's see what they can dial up here in the third quarter yeah I I think you stay calm I think you make adjustments Jesse I think you realize what the he's loose the defense got caught that time and they finally get him on the ground at the 41 and in this offense you know as a quarterback you're going to get opportunities to put up some pretty big numbers you've been impressed watching this guy play early this year with that last pass completion he's now already over 2,000 yards on the season the lone back's got it crosses the 40 gets it down to the 35 before he stopped a gain of six it's a nice game but the big theme Here is they just haven't been able to get the Run game going on offense they've been very one-dimensional they're just not being physical enough at the opp of attack dropping back it's bow fires to the right wide open downfield and he cruises his way to the house touchdown beat really nice job working the route and getting himself open he's able to locate the football snag it out of the air and this guy now has five receiving touchdowns on the year all tied up from just about set to kick it away on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the hill topper offense comes on the field again the sledding has been tough scores have been at a premium Jesse in every possession seems like it could switch the momentum of the game yeah ree for this offense just feels like they just haven't been as physical and for this offensive coordinator David he's having to go deep into the Playbook just to try to generate a first down well and the good thing is there's not a ton of game pressure because the other side's not scoring either but if you can find that one thing that get that one positive play and then maybe you get those juices going in something can start the Bild hey what about that move to pick up a couple of extra yards he's down it for 38 got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four pre- snap Motion in the back field on second down just keeps firing caught behind the line it's young and that is a Nifty bit of navigation to get through that traffic and get the first down I like the running back there on the route and the patience he showed really setting it up he got to the defender was able to put his foot in the ground get some separation catch it and turn up field for the first one step W twep squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground and the defense doing a great job committing to the run when you commit to the run like this obviously you can give up some plays in the passing game but you got to stop the run first oh he left him grabbing and they'll finally bring him down after he rips off a huge play how nice is it as a quarterback when you don't have to throw post routes to get great stats no I can just throw it quickly to one of the fastest players in the entire nation and let him burn this defense he's down at the one and they almost had the touchdown pass on that one nice job by the receiver there running the drag route against Zone coverage finding the soft spot making it easy on his quarterback to get the completion he turns it up field and he moves the sticks barges ahead touchdown Hill Toppers and with that one they jump on top here in the second half Precision blocking up front created the open Lane and the running back followed it beautifully yeah it's pretty easy to follow an offensive line that makes those holes and just gives you a caravan all the way to the end zone what an unbelievable job blocking up front and it'll come out to the 25 no attempt at a return the beat offense ready to go back to work and David how they would love to stick it in the end zone one more time after that last drive and once you get the defense on their heels and you back them off a little bit you get in a little bit of Rhythm it's really hard to stop Jesse and they're going to try to do it again right here and if you're this play caller you're loving what's happening right now because everything you dialed up on that last Drive ended up working out you're just looking at your play sheet everything you're picking is working let's see they can pull it off again here all kinds of room to throw that one in there what really made that corner route work was the receiver not telegraphing where he was going he kept his eyes down the field so the DB and man coverage didn't know if he was Breaking Inside if he was going to continue running straight maybe going to the post maybe turning around for a curl it was the corner route though and as a result they pick up a big chunk of yards yeah and it's a nice job by this defense understanding listen that QB is a threat and they're going to run all kinds of options and he's going to run the football they were dialed in and got that sucker to the ground went to the running game on first down now second [Applause] down from the shotgun the inside give nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry and yeah that's kind of surprising and we talked about this before the game one of the big matchups run the football against a defense that's been susceptible against the Run throughout the season but this offense just can't find a way to get it going and I'm surprised but now what's your counter punch how are you going to get the ground game going cuz so far not a lot of success trying to make magic on the scramble picks up the first down and gets down to avoid contact Hey listen it's important at that position to be able to be good off schedule everything's easy when it's on time you can get the ball out but when things break down they get off schedule you've got to have a guy back there that can make the right decisions he did exactly that they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one it's a bad sign on offense when you have that many people running free at your running back that means guys up front aren't getting their blocks just too many hats getting to the ball carrier I love his effort making multiple guys miss but still it's a negative Play Lost yardage on that last one it's second and 11 he'll try to pop the draw not much room to run let's give him one to the 33 the big defensive tackles in the middle they're not always the best pass rushers but they are strong and I say Country Strong they put their hands on you you feel it they lock people out on the line of scrimmage they create separation they wrap running backs up and usually they don't get out of the mids of those big boys and they'll send the field goal team back out for the second time tonight this might be a little easier if it were straight on but a 43 y from the right hatch between the uprights it's good so the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away after putting up a field goal let's see what the defense can do and he takes this from inside the five makes a move oh what Vision just a tremendous return great great run great speed and vision to really set up this offense he almost got totally loose on that one first down here for the offense from the gun the running back tries to hit the hole he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple you can't let the same guy beat you over and over and over again you got to make adjustments sometimes you got to bring more guys in the Box more guys to the football and make sure he's not the one who beats you get caught down field he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense well how about the offense setting that play up we've seen earlier in the game a couple shorter throws they're just trying to suck those safeties closer to the line of scrimmage anticipating that they would get an opportunity to take a shot they called the perfect play at the perfect time right there got like that big reliable security and that's what tight ends are a lot of the times they're just usually big huge guys that if I throw it anywhere near him he's going to pluck it catch it and give me some positive yards got operating in the Red Zone here on second Down Easy looking downfield it's Fenley they've got the screen set up nice move to keep moving and they knock him down but he got past the line to gain and a great job by the QB finding the running back getting the football where he can do some damage after the catch and most importantly get the first down pressure coming took a shot as he threw he gets rid of it but I don't think they're going to let him get away with that no here comes the flag the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the [Applause] penalty offense trying to pay it off on second and goal quarterback checking off on second down he'll let it fly and he got smacked just as he released the pass it's incomplete often times defenses see empty sets and that's when they want to dial up pressure knowing there's no extra bodies back there to protect the quarterback they were able to get to him on that one and that's why the ball was incomplete grabbed over the middle it's young and he'll stop him inside the five but the defense is backed up and the with it own goal post and here comes the field goal unit for the second time tonight it is true as he puts three on the board after that last field goal Drive they're set to kick it away and they desperately wanted to attempt a return but decided not to instead they'll take the Touchback they've got the Big Fellas out there a three tight end look on First and 10 from the gun the Gale looking for room and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 to the air it's Bower receiver looks it in it's complete they make the stop but barely and they might need to regroup as we have come to the end of the third quarter that's the end of the quarter Western Kentucky is on top let's take a quick look at the national rankings to see how this playoff race is shaping up one quarter to go and might we have the makings of a classic fourth quarter finish back at it to open the quarter with this first down play looking for a crease it's Gentry and it's just simple simple first down run showing your physicality setting your offense up in a good spot got three on first down it's second and seven we hand off to the lone back and a good solid pick up before the defense Cuts him down and you know when we talk about great third down defenses it really starts with them getting stops on first and second down you've got to get those stops early in the drives to set up third and long so that's a missed opportunity on that second down by this defense a beautifully placed ball to the outside in the tow drag for the big pickup the Bearcats look to keep this drive [Applause] humming quarterback on the keeper keeps it and gets the first down and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play and a big opportunity for this offense to tie the game up in the fourth with a touchdown he'll try to get it in with the Run he'll be brought down at the 5 yd line and this defense is on its heels they're strong and they're strong don't have much of a chance when you got that 300 plus pound guy as a quarterback you got to know in this area of the field it's tough to throw right the windows they open and close so quickly when you get down to the Red Zone what helps and he'll finish the run in the end zone this guy just has a nose for the end zone and you love his ability to find creases use his speed in the open field and go score he's been really good for his offense early this year that already kickoff as we are all tied up in the fourth quarter on the run from inside his own five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 here comes the Western Kentucky offense back onto the field had to settle for the Chip Shot field goal last time Jesse they'd love for this one to pay off bigger yeah it just comes down to execution too did a nice job out in the field stalled a little bit once they got down to the goal line so they just need to be a little bit more crisp here D yeah and listen I I think the first part was the most important part you got to put the drive together first to get down there now when we get down there focus on execution and getting six points when we see another catch by this guy this defense is going to need to do a better job of tackling the catch in coverage I know they want to slap the ball away but if you can't do it and force the incompletion you've got to at least make sure you're able to drag him down to the ground as soon as he catches the ball hand off to the single running back and he's able to bounce off one tackle for a solid pick up you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense good spot after that seveny pickup on first down it's second and three they'll go right back to the run a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior you know as a defense you kind of want to force the give on the RPO you want them to run the football and you could tell maybe the quarterback wishes he pulled this small gain but some information you gathered maybe for the next time you get to run an RPO here we go third down and one let's see what you're made of he'll try to pick it up on the ground he's got first down yardage across the 50 they'll mark it at the 49 well I think this running back has proved in this game here tonight that he can be counted on and relied on right in a big moment right here late in the game when they need to run the ball to ice this thing he's able to deliv now he's looking to throw it he's got his man he's brought down solid pickup but a little bit short of the first down you know the defense doesn't have an answer for this slot guy right now they may want to think about bracketing him having a Defender play to the outside and to the inside probably some sort of Zone coverage where you're trying to get two bodies forcing the quarterback to have to go somewhere else with the ball oh it goes right through his hands they had everything set up on the screen except the catch it'll be third down looked like the offense had a chance for a big play there but the running back just could not reel that ball [Applause] in hoping to help there kick her out with a few yards on third down because from here it would be a 58 y they'll try to pick up the first through the air caught in the back field it's Smith really nice job to convert that third down and they've got it at the 33 there's a reason third down is called the money down what a great find by the quarterback great job finding his receiver at the end of the game you look at third down percentages it tells a huge story and it goes a long way deciding he wins a football knocked down at the 29 after a pick up of four you know it's so important for offenses to want to keep third Downs manageable the way you do that is by having success like that running the football on first down the clock has stopped as we have reached the two-minute warning here in the ball game after the productive first down play it's second and six now the quarterback changing the original play call wants to it's [Applause] Fenley they're working that left side and he goes out of bounds after coming up with positive yardage there nice Patience by the quarterback here working against Zone coverage he was allowing his receiver an opportunity to find that open space in the defense before pulling the trigger and David on Third and inches right there that's often a decision the quarterback predetermines who's my best guard that's the guy I'm going to try to get behind and I know that defensively too but I'm just trying to dive and create a pile but it's so hard to stop that play that's why you see it ran so successfully the defense going to stop the clock with the timeout they want to make sure they have everybody on the same [Applause] page didn't get much on first down it's second and nine he's got it again he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple the defense uses their second timeout of the half as they try to get their act together how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions third and long and he'll try to throw for it and you just don't your Junior quarterback to get fooled and to throw it into double coverage like that and now on fourth down they will put it on the shoulders of the kicker to save them with his foot it is good and now they've taken the lead here in the final two minutes well the offense and special teams did their job right here late in the fourth quarter they put themselves now in position to win this game it all comes down to the defense can they deliver they get the stop they win this game the mircat offense ready to go back to work on that last Drive defense had no idea what was happening run or pass and that wound up in the end zone Jesse yeah you saw the experience in this offense that last drive too on that touchdown everybody on the same page these guys have Reed these plays over and over in practice and in games and it's working yeah so I got to find a way to disrupt it I got to find a way to maybe be more aggressive Blitz mess up this Rhythm they got going they'll throw it on first down caught over the middle it's Smith well these wide receivers work the middle of the field so much of this is Fe understanding where the holes are in the zone or understanding how to get leverage on a man and these wide receivers are dangerous nowadays because they do it so fast and see that so quick and make those plays up caught close to the marker it's Evans good up there they'll move the change in their set up at the 41 he'll spike the ball to try to save every precious second he can line getting set on second down back to throw it's Bower using his feet to buy time crosses the 30 he's got a lane and he Scoops out of bounds picked up the first down gets the clock stopped and now they're in business in plus territory and the Bearcats come to the line with a fresh set of downs comes out throwing on first down makes to grab it's Johnson and he runs through one tackle and picks up a few the clock will stop with this timeout from the offense they'll get a chance to regroup on the sideline no running back on the field five wide on second and one he's looking to throw quickly complete they get him down but this offens is set up first and goal from the nine they're already in field goal range they've got time to take some shots need to be urgent but don't rush defense rolls up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming the run up the middle trying to find his way to the goal line really nice stop there from this senior leader clock is still running and they have to get everybody lined up wants to fire It In The End Zone on Third and goal and the quarterback is knocked down back at the 13 up all the plays all the plans all the schemes and it will be decided on this kick it is perfect and in the waning seconds of the game they tie it up and we're all square as he's set to kick it away here he comes from inside his own five and they'll haul down the returner to start us on the next drive four quarters not enough to settle this one we're headed to overtime and these teams have played so well back and forth evenly contested game how about a little free football Jesse yeah I love this David free football and finding out which of these two teams is the most mature who can settle down now with the game on the line and make the big play [Music] [Music] first play of the first possession of ot looking to pass it's Finley looking to the big tight end snags it he'll be stopped just short of the end zone but they'll have it first and goal first and goal as they try to jump on top here in overtime trying to punch it in he's got it down to the one yd line right on the doorstep of p and the hill Toppers want to move quickly trying to break the plane on second and goal touchdown Western Kentucky they strike first here in overtime the all important extra point would push this lead to seven and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven the best running backs are the guys that can just sniff out the end zone that running back showed you all of his fre ability on that play now on first down they need to answer with a touchdown to the air on first down unloads to the wide out touchdown be cats they got it in the end zone now a decision to make with a point after you got to be impressed with the level of execution here in the second Drive of OT One play score a touchdown and now it's decision time David kick the extra point and keep this thing going or do you go for two and try to win yeah and you're right the response was amazing I mean you give up a touchdown you you have a tendency to get down on yourself no no no first play great execution now do I go for the win do do I play this safe or do I go try to take this moment right now and get the D one extra period didn't get it done and we start the second OT that's going to do it for us for Jesse Palmer David Pollock our entire broadcast team I'm Rees houses this it's ball game really nice focus by this sophomore and he jumped on his chance to make a play [Applause] first down in this defense is desperate any kind of score and it's [Applause] over the RPO fire complete to the left didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few he's marked down at the 22 second down coming up on second down will they go back to the ground Game On The Run it's young they get him down but not before he picks up five down to the 17 yd line man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out third and two here in overtime and they' love to avoid making a fourth down decision fakes to grab on the left they make the stop but not before he sets them up with a first and goal from the 10 [Applause] they must protect the football here they're already well within range of a game-winning field goal attempt a first down run in the Red Zone he bullies his way all the way down to the 5 yd line yds up and now it's second and goal the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the D he'll run it to the right here and try to get it into the end zone they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that [Applause] one a critical third and goal here and you have to think they're getting the ball in position to try that game-winning field goal trying to make their way to the promised land on Third and goal he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple they'll try to walk it off with a chip shot field goal here in overtime he got it hey walk off field goal wins it in overtime my pulse raate is still through the roof on this game I would have called that one for free wait I don't want to get carried away there but it was a really fun game and a great win it really was I know we're all up here we're bouncing around we're excited after having seen what we just saw what a great win for this team to go out and do it in overtime that's the type of game that fans are going to be talking about for a long time Dy yeah right if you know ree Davis that is not happening but we got a free game that was awesome back and forth nip and Tuck and bonus time you got some free
