[Music] [Music] [Music] welcome to Miami this is a big event City and folks here are fired up for this one inside Hard Rock stadium as the Miami Hurricane try to represent the great tradition of their program this is not just any other match up both teams come in ranked in the top 10 colliding early in the season each trying to set the tone with a big statement as we'll see the number number seven team of the country the Pittsburgh Panthers taking on the winners of five straight the Miami Hurricanes for EA Sports college football I'm Chris Fowler joined here in the booth by Kirk H Street Kirk let's get to the action on the [Applause] field and the kads will kick this deep to get us going here's the return from inside the five be tackled at the 17 strong job by the coverage team so Pittsburgh's offense making their way on the field today here comes that star wide receiver with the swag he kind of rubs opponents the wrong way KK because he's saying I don't care who you are I'm going to embarrass you today well Chris there's a Ru that this guy actually DMS the opposing Corners before the game that he's going to go up against as if to say hey it's going to be a long day for you today but the wild thing is he actually comes out and singlehandedly unravels defenses to the point that by the end it looks like he's in the heads of the opposing secondary not exactly the outcome this offense was hoping for here on the option they didn't lose any yards which is great I think they're definitely looking for more from that play the S with a strong tackle there with the defense coordinator this week always telling us about Gap Integrity not giving this running back any Crees at all really sound defense on that play and now they run the draw play in the second effort there will earn him the first down well I know it's here early in this game but boy that this is what you want to see as an offense you get to these third Downs it's all about trying to create opportunities and momentum and that's what they've done here converting to get a new set of downs from the shotgun it's a handoff a gain of two yards now it's second down and eight hey it's a great job of this defense containing the running game if I'm calling the plays I'm I'm not abandoning the running game just yet I think it's important to have some sense of balance so throwing and running is essential stick with it the ball is caught and he's in the clear down the right side End Zone ahead they're not going to get him he's in touchdown piit this guy can do it all we've seen him go behind coverage and make plays downfield we can see him catch the ball underneath just like this when he catches a football he is so dangerous after the catch this one leads him into the end zone for the six points Miami Fields it inside the 5 yd line they stop him at the 23 that's solid coverage the Hurricanes offense comes out for their first possession today first and 10 first down here for this offense com out throwing here to start the drive nice grab it's little defense reacts quickly a very short gain on the play now it's second down here out of the shotgun he'll hand it off goes backwards losing three yards there Chris textbook job by the defense surrounding Runner and preventing that play from being bounced to the outside tackle made after a s gain to spot the ball at the 34 The Tackle made but the sophomore quarterback showing us the arm strength the Hurricanes will line up on First and 10 looking to pass it's Anderson rifles this football to the left the catch is made for a huge pickup and a huge game before he scce out of bounds big yardage to set up a fresh set of downs the Cades are moving quickly down the field trying to find room it's Allen you make the stop but not before a solid game that time a solid run good for first down [Applause] [Music] yardage here comes a throw from the Red Zone fires it to the wide out that's a bullet but it's incomplete from the snap of the ball it looked like he knew exactly where he wanted to go with the football but the guy just had him blanketed and he still tried to get the ball squeezed in there he's got to do a better job of working through his progressions to find that open man seventh play of the drive coming up but it is third down and long dropping back we're going to throw for the first down incomplete and that shot to the end zone hey it's an incompletion but it's a nice job by the quarterback I know it didn't pan out but the most important thing is he didn't turn the football over and he didn't take a sack give your kicker a chance to put some points on the board if they opt for the field goal here on fourth down so after the field goal the kicker out there again to boot it away he'll return it from inside the five he's tackled at the 21 that's for the drive will start offense coming to the line they might have a chance for a couple more plays before we reach the end of the quarter Quick Pass here comes a Jet Sweep defense will make the stop will probably be final play of this open [Applause] court and Kirk it's Pittsburgh on top and at the end of the first quarter let's check out the stats so faram plenty of time for some plot twist here as we begin the second quarter here we go first play of the quarter offense setting up for a second down play back to throw it's Holstein makes a quick catch tackle made after a big game you know we talked this week with the offensive coordinator about what makes this receiver so special he kept referring to his route running here's an example of that great route enough separation to give the quarterback a nice Lane to throw the football moving the receiver around pre snap ball handed off it's a one yd gain second and nine coming up Christino the spread ER over the years has always grown offensively I've been always impressed with defenses that really build their defense to play in space still have an ability to be sound at the line of scriage and defend a running game it's exactly what we saw right there now the offense facing a third and long on their own 41 dropping back we going to throw for the first down it's intercepted tried to fire it into a tight window he's got some open field ahead touchdown hurricanes and the defense joins the party with a pick six and the interception taken to the house a pick six potential gamechanging play though nothing gets a defense and especially a defensive coordinator more fired up than a pick six let's not forget give credit to some of those other Defenders for making some key blocks to Spring that touchdown loose be tackled at the 17 strong job by the coverage team and the Pittsburg offense is back out on the field it'll be interesting to see if this quarterback can bounce back he threw a pick six in the last possession ball handed off just a small gain look at it second and nine offense operating from the pistol and they'll use the ground game here tackled behind the line it's a loss of two well a serious challenge for this offense you don't want to be in third and long inside your own 20 how much of a risk will they take to try to pick up this first down hit as he releases it and the pass ball is incomplete the Panthers will send the punt team onto the field looking to flip the field here and the returner elects to fair catch it no return so they begin the drive here in the final three minutes of the half go on First and 10 here looking to throw the ball and he fires the football to the right side and this is dropped would have been a hug huge game but he could not collect it so second down after the incompletion play action fake looking to throw let's a fly out of the wide out and it's complete downfield and a big gain across Midfield moves the ball inside the enemy 40 yd line the offense really clicking against this battle defense they're going to run it stop after a small gain now look at at second and nine and the clock stops now for the two minute warning a chance to strategize here before we reach halftime second down play coming [Applause] up they'll change the pre- snap look now looking to pass it's Anderson and it's incomplete and a very quick throw that's a misfire there Chris this passing game has got to be able to get into sink and find a ridle on third down he drops to throw he slings this one deep down the left side the pass is dropped incomplete would have had a huge gain took his eye off the ball so they're short on board down and the coach decides to trot out the field goal team he missed it lead remains three after that Miss and the Pittsburgh offense is back out on the field if they want to cut into this lead before halftime they have to work quickly now cannot Escape it down he goes and Sack sets up a second down and long here's the snap looking to throw here the protection breaks down again backto back sacks and now the defense decid suspend a timeout a regroup a bit third and long if this defense gets a third sack in a row this place will come unhinged takes the hand off heads to the right and the defense Smothers him for no gain the defense will spend their second time out here to make some adjustments the Panthers will line up to put it away and he'll kick it away now for the second [Applause] time oh he's got a crease here look out returner tackle right there that's where we start the drive first down play call how aggressive will it be look come out throwing here to start the drive that's a bullet over the middle pass ball is incomplete on the Deep shot but there is a penalty marker down let's check it out costly holding penalty there backs him up 10 yards fresh set of downs for the offense first down quarterback appears to be changing the play scanning the field it's Anderson defense is coming after him and they hit him just as he releases the ball it's incomplete well it's pretty simple the defensive line does a great job of getting after the quarterback and forcing him into that incompletion throws it to the right and is complete what a grab by the receiver right near the sideline well that's a great catch near the sideline and does a good job of getting that foot down to secure the catch offense been in Reverse here now a long way to go to convert this third down dropping back he going to throw for the first down and he's going tole this one deep to the left side that one Falls incomplete they tried to press it deep but now it brings up four down the canes will have to kick it away he should be able to pin them back deep here with his first punt this will be fair caught at the 15 and the Panthers offense is back out on the field backed up this close to their end zone in the final minute let's see if they just decide to take care of the football and look toward the second half looks to the left and it's complete he's sto him but he gets out across the 25 yd line the Panthers will hustle to the line to run the hurry up offense first and looking to throw now on first down receiver makes the catch and a timeout is called important stage late here in the second quarter big guys up front lined up it's first down there's the snaap quarterback setting up to throw caught over the middle it's Johnson the offense will quickly spend a timeout here after the play pit getting set with a first and 10 coming [Applause] up from the gun he looks for an open man that's incomplete even on a first down pass attempt he felt heavy pressure so after the incompletion it's second down looking downfield it's Holstein deliv from the pocket complete over the middle Jes pass the defender he's in the clear so a timeout is called just a few seconds left here in the first half so on first down the field goal unit will come out there try to get three points before the half trying to knock it through from 44 yd away and it's good right down the middle that will tie things up as we head toward halftime I was watching this guy in pregame he has got a strong leg I'm surprised here he's able to put three points up here for the offense turn starts inside the 15 stop at the 22 that's pretty solid coverage there Miami will take your first and this will likely be the last play of the half off the play fake looking to throw on first down the pocket breaking down they pressure him and get him couldn't get a throw away and that will be the final play of the first half the Panthers will kick this away to start the second half return starts from inside the five he'll be tackled at the 17 strong job by the coverage team here comes the Miami offense back out out of the [Music] field on First and 10 look at the throw the gain's nine so it's second and one and the running back that time just kind of sneaks out of the back field and shows his hands on that nice catch off play action he's looking to throw and he'll rifle this one deep to the right side oh and it's almost picked off a chance for their first interception today going to set up third down see if the offense can move the chains off that incompletion on third down it's a handoff he's tackled short of the 30 but that's good enough for first down nice first down run here by this running back leads are the kind of situations on Third and short that you can gain a lot of momentum or it can kill a drive and kill the confidence of an offense here they pick up the nice first down which is great new set of downs but also gives you a lot of confidence and you can wear that defense down psychologically second down after that run on the previous play right keep it on the ground there's the handoff he's found some room at the 45 oh and he's in the clear now it's a foot race touchdown for the U he'll take the lead in the second half they try to add to the lead now with the Pat and it's no good he missed the extra point now they get set to kick it away he'll bring it out from his end zone he'll be tackled at the 17 strong job by the coverage team first down play call coming up how aggressive will it be they'll hand it off nowhere to run a caralin for no game that back just had nowhere to go got to give credit to the defense and their run fits on that play offense getting set it's second down back to pass it's Holstein pass ball is incomplete there was a lot of contact no penalty brings up third down they come to the line a long way to go for the first down but needing this ccial conversion right now drops back needing a third down completion here he's got an open man downfield and it's caught and they'll bring him down but this offense creates a huge chunk play a lot of times college quarterbacks they're more comfortable working to the outside use an example of a quarterback with a full field read and he hits a big play in the middle it's a quarterback keeper and he's able to find some room before they finally bring him down well I think we can all see how tough it is to control this guy under Center this defense but they did a nice job of keeping him contained but they've got to stay focused they can't get lazy because we could see him breaking one any moment against this defense this pit offense is moving quickly down the [Applause] field play action here on first down fires it to the white out and off the deflection it's caught he could not stop him he's in touchdown Panthers this is a nice touchdown and a great play call just get this receiver in space and let him make people miss and use his speed to get to the end zone that's what they did here and it pays off we manages the footing and the extra point is up and good kickoff team on the field getting set now he's going to return it from near the goal line be tackled at the 17 strong job by the coverage team Miami Hurricanes will take over and the Hurricanes offense retakes the field in the last possession the defense just had no answer for this powerful ground game let's see what they can do here's the throw deep downfield that deep shot is caught for a big game no stopping and takes it all the way touchdown Miami we see more more this in college football you get the right guy in that slot that can win the one-on-one matchups you take some chances here they got the match up that they wanted and he can't get rid of it and goes down so a sack unsuccessful two-point try here's the kickoff team Now set to boot this one [Applause] away Fields it just outside the goal line C SE brings down the returner here's the first play of the drive they'll set up from the 13 first down we going to throw the football oh that one's picked off brought down after a short return at the 20 to Snuff out the scoring threat in the Red Zone well your best player has got to make big plays in these kind of moments and that's what happened right here with this defensive back the offense in a tie game in the Red Zone looking at points and instead the defense with the interception in a tie game their offense now has the ball they tackle him behind the line a loss of four second down play coming up for this off offense dropping back it's Anderson he's running out of time here gets the ball off as he's hit but it's incomplete man you got to love this if your defensive coordinator it's all about affecting the quarterback and getting pressure on him this time they got to him and forced that incompletion he's got it right near the end zone love that big Target on third down he's got great athletic ability but it's his size that creates such a match up Advantage when you get the third down he takes it into the end zone but a marker is down so hold on here [Applause] hold oh that one is going to sting take the crucial touchdown off the board they be backed up and have to try it again and as we take a break to flip ends of the field let's take a quick look at the current national rankings [Music] one quarter to go let's see if this sets up as a classic finish the Hurricanes looking to punch it in here it's first and goal offense will keep it on the ground here the senior able to make the stop after a short [Applause] game it's second down and goal now for this [Applause] offense quarterback drops back back probing the secondary grab behind the line it's Allen and it'll be smother right at the line for No Gain I can see what the quarterback's trying to do here Chris and he gets the completion but just no game there's just no room to go after the catch looking to the end zone looking for a touchdown but it's incomplete well Chris obviously they had to go through the air there to try to pick up this third down and long but when you're so far behind the chains can really allow this defense to dictate things and allows him to put pressure on your quarterback and can affect the timing as we saw in this play and that one my gosh I mean it's almost too easy nice kick and he takes this from inside the five and the Pittsburgh offense is back out on the field remember the last possession ended quickly an interception on the first play Let's see if they can do better here they flip it to him on the Jet Sweep moving past the 25 tackle made on the play at the 29 ydd line wi at the 29 yd that's a first this line getting set up it's a first down [Applause] play looking to throw it's Holstein testing the defense with a throw downfield and he throws his third interception of the day going the other way can they stop him return a pick six touchdown kanes and a pick six a monster play by this defense here that Defender showed a lot of athletic ability there with the ball in his hands I wouldn't be surprised if the head coach watching that thought about maybe giving in some reps as a returner after that [Applause] touchdown and here's the return from inside the five solid job by the coverage seat they bring him down at the 16 and the Pittsburgh offense is back out on the field they have got to bounce back on this possession after going a pick six last time out here running back has it on a screen now and the tackle is made the screen pass there produces a solid game the Panthers will hustle to the line here to run the hurry up you get some positive yards in the opening play of this drive they need two touchdowns so anything to move them closer to that first touchdown is always going to be good receiver looks it in it's complete the defense grabs him after the completion he's just short of a first down on Third and short they'll try to throw for it here another interception that's number four today are you kidding me follows the pick with a nice return before finally being brought down first down here for this [Applause] offense they'll work the clock here with the running game he stopped just short to that first down marker inches away from him come to the line for second down and very short now and the quarterback drops back looking for an open man fires it to his Target he's got it near the end zone and he's run out after a big game the offense have been set up with a first down and goal they can put the game away right here it's first and goal that was a nice Juke but not much room to run he's brought down for a short game second down here time for perhaps just one more play before the two-minute warning oh the ball's knocked loose the 50 inside the 40 at the 20 the 10 touchdown hit the defense adds six points planning up to try the extra point [Applause] on he up and good they get a little bit closer score getting set to kick the ball off now Fields it inside the 5yd line and the C team HS him in and brings him down and the Miami offense is back on the field so it's still the one possession game the offense would love to work the clock here but they can't take their fo off the gas and here's the handoff the gain is two yds so it's second and eight now a timeout taken by the defense trying to preserve as much clock as possible for their offense offense getting set second down play here free snap motion from the receiver looking downfield it's Anderson an open Target on the left side they bring him down but an explosive play by this offense big game and now it's the defense that calls timeout here trying to get organized and preserve as much clock as possible the offense operating at Peak efficiency they come to the line again they'll run it here breaks loose at the 45 out of bounds after another huge Chunk on the ground what a job by this offensive line today how about setting the edge there on the right side of that offensive line I wouldn't be surprised if they keep going back to the well pounding it behind that Right Guard and right tackle and tight end seeing what additional damage they can do finally out of bounds after a solid gain but there is a flag on the field so let's check this out so the holding penalty in the offense backs him up 10 yds a penalty backs up the offense it's first and 15 they're going to run it here and a decent gain there before the defense brings him down now a timeout taken by the defense trying to preserve as much clock as possible for their offense important second down play coming up looking for a gap it's Allen that's a nice tackle there by the senior now they try to run it here on second down unable to get the first down and now late in a game like this the big question do you pass the ball potentially with an incompletion the clock will stop or do you play it safe and keep it on the ground so on fourth down out trots the place kicker and a very big spot [Applause] here kick is good giv the offense three points to show for that drive and they add to their lead getting set to kick off after extending the lead with the field goal the offense knows they have a long way to go and not much time to get there they'll return it from inside the five and he stopped at the 19 good job by the coverage team and the Panthers offense is back back out on the field the last possession ended in an interception let's see if they continue to trust this quarterback in the passing [Applause] game pressure is coming and he just throws the ball away there nobody open excellent coverage offense getting set up here's second down to the air it's Holstein quick throw over the middle he's a wideopen receiver complete breaks into the clear it's a Sprint they bring him down but that is a huge play for this passing game big game5 and that's enough quarterback will spike the ball to stop the clock it's now second down getting set here's second [Applause] down here's the snap quarterback drops back he's going to be brought down by that ferocious pass rush nice sack little hurry to the line here with the clock [Applause] running drops back looking to throw for it on third down bringing pressure throws the ball away but not before taking a hit so down by multiple possessions here the offense will try to convert here on fourth down quarterback drops back and he'll LOF it to the end zone and and it's picked off in the end zone not much on the return but the defense comes up with a takeaway boy with this quarterback love to have this one back they're trying to work themselves back into this game here in the second half and the defense comes up with a big turnover that could breathe a nail in the coffin looking to make a play deep downfield took one last shot with no time on the clock though this game is over well it wasn't a Flawless performance kir but they looked pretty good out there today and a very satisfying go we
