how high can they climb the Cleveland Guardians are they going to remain at the top spot in our power rankings for the second straight week or did the Orioles do enough to climb back up after taking the final two games over the weekend welcome in everybody appreciate you finding some time to join me here as we rank all teams 30 through one again doing it from a different location see the screens backwards as well moving things around to make it work on vacation here on the island so I appreciate you finding some time to check back in and see where our teams land 30 through one on this episodic Journey that is Power Rankings let's get this thing going and let's Place 30 through 25 on the screen and nothing has changed white socks have not won a game since the allstar break they'll be in at number 30 Rockies Marlins Angels A's and blue jays take us 30 through 25 again no changes here with the bottom six teams 24 through 19 let's go the gats the Reds the Tigers Rangers Cubs and Giants Blakes now congratulations on the no hitter the Giants are hanging around but the teams that are going to be ahead of them from 18 on they're all above 500 so that's the dividing line here is the San Francisco Giants they are still below 500 they'll be in at number 19 Cubs that was a good job taking care of the Cardinals taking three out of four and that moved them up from the number 22 spot after Texas and Detroit struggled this week so the Cubs are kind of hanging around I don't think it's enough but they move up a couple spots and again the Giants they're the dividing line between that sub and above 500 group of teams let's keep going we're moving quick again got to get to the beach 18 through 13 this is where we'll start seeing some changes this is where we'll slow down just a little bit uh that pirates and Diamondback series was really good I don't know if you had a chance to catch much of that but over the weekend uh Arizona and Pittsburgh played a fantastic Series in Pittsburgh and in the end the Diamondbacks took two out of three alog together The Pirates Who come in at number 18 holding at number 18 for the third straight week the Pittsburgh Pirates go three and three after getting uh two out of three from Houston in Houston to start the week this is a pirates team that bought at the deadline they want to grab a wild card spot they played a hot Arizona Diamondbacks team tough so that's a good sign but in the end again it winds up being Arizona taking two out of three and Pittsburgh because of that will hold at the number 18 spot they're now 56 and 55 again hanging around just enough to be dangerous in at number 17 are the St Louis Cardinals continuing to drop back these St Louis Cardinals have gone 10 11 15 and now 7 they just keep moving in the wrong direction um dropping three out of four to the Chicago Cubs is at this point for the Cardinals is unacceptable you just can't do it they're now only two games above 500 they are in that wildcard mess with seven other teams for that final spot or the final two spots and again uh Arizona San Diego they're hot right now they are two teams that are going to try to separ themselves from the group that the Cardinals are in not a good job by the Cardinals again dropping three out of four to the uh to the Cubs you just you cannot let that happen they've now fallen seven spots over the last couple of weeks we have the Rays despite moving on from some pieces they keep winning baseball games because of course they do 57 and 54 after a 3 and2 week closed out the weekend taking the series from Houston two out of three it's a bad job by the Houston Nationals we'll talk about that in a minute the Seattle Mariners 59 and 54 after a three and four week really that Boston series to start the week highlights the disappointment there uh Seattle luckily dealt or was was um afforded a the opportunity to remain at the top of the division because the Houston had a bad week so Seattle caught a break in that regard and the way they closed the week again it so the Philadelphia Phillies are really struggling right now but still regardless if you can take two out of three from the Philadelphia Phillies that's a good thing despite the Phillies struggles they're still going to be in the top five so the Seattle Mariners it was a Jackel and H hide week and again the fact that Houston did nothing to gain ground bailed them out with that Boston series they'll hold it 59 and 54 as you can tell from the tone of my voice and and everything I'm saying I'm not impressed with this team I'm not impressed with this kind of week despite taking two out of three from Philly Seattle's got to pick it up the Mets are going to drop back two spots week started out strong taking two out of three from Minnesota but then dropped two out of three to the Angels they lost a pair of one run games over the weekend and that hurts it dropped them out of a wild card spot still a lot of time to go but Arizona San Diego as we've said now multiple times are playing really good baseball and we trust that Atlanta will still be there at the end of the day Mets Cannot drop two out of three to the angels that just at this point with where the expectations are this should be a postseason team this they buy at the deadline you got to take at least one of those games uh we did see some good pitching this week though Paul Blackburn made his Mets debut six Innings one run strong told you Mets fans that wanted to doubt and were disappointed about the Paul Blackbird Edition at the trade deadline told you he's a good pitcher and you saw it looked good this week the Astros our final group of this column dropping from 10 to 13 after losing two out of three to Pittsburgh and two out of three to the Tampa Bay Rays 57 and 54 now this isn't going to get it done this is a week where you got to come out of this week instead of two and four you got to come out of this week four- two these are two teams Pittsburgh and Tampa that are not top 10 teams and that's where we had taken Houston to last week and they did not get the job done they will fall out of the top 10 if you can't you can't even beat the teams outside the top 10 you don't belong in the top 10 so we move Houston back over the last week 14 runs scored offense just climbed up inside itself and did nothing 14 runs second Fest in baseball Diaz and yordon are the only two that are hitting right now but this is this is a perfect example of what's going on yordon Alvarez had eight hits over the last week he only drove in one run Diaz had 10 hits over the last week he only drove in two runs so this is not good you say Kikuchi did make his debut went five and two3 struck out 11 at one point had struck out eight in a row worth every Prospect right Astros fans I'm sorry I know I'm trolling I apologize that will be the last time I do that but hey look if that's what you're going to get if you're going to if you're going to pitch into the six you're going to get double digit strikeouts that's going to be big still isn't worth three prospects though let's move into the top 10 and we're going to give you 12 11 and 10 this is usually where we would vote but again we are recording this in advance so I will put 12 11 and 10 in the best way that I think you guys would vote this so here we go we're going to go Padre's at 12 so they will go from 14 to 12 we are going to go Diamondbacks at 11 so they move up two spots from 13 to 11 and Kansas City will move up one spot 11 to 10 Kansas City went six and one this week we have to reward them we cannot move them back even though Arizona and San Diego are playing good baseball speaking to San Diego they're now 61 and 52 they swept the little mini two game series against the Dodgers to start the week and then took two out of three from Colorado San Diego is now 11 and3 since the break they went 4-1 this week all at home that pushed their home record above 500 for the season at 30 and 29 that's sort of one of the areas we're looking for San Diego to unlock and that is winning games at home and again four- one this week all at home that's a good job Machado crushing the ball lately Leading The Way with three home runs he went nine for 19 CE looked good shut the Dodgers down on Wednesday Vasquez looked good Martin Perez made his San Diego debut sort of one of the one of really the most under the radar editions that was made at the deadline look good and again pitching pitching and Machado that led the way for San Diego this week Arizona let's get to them 60 and 52 now moving up those two spots after sweeping the Washington Nationals and taking two out of three from Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh in a very competitive series a very postseason feel kind of series you could tell Pittsburgh they're they're they're real they're locked in and they played Arizona tough 48 runs scored by the Diamondbacks last week that's the second most in baseball uh catel Marte Gino Suarez and Pomo are all leading the charge for that group Marte with four home runs Suarez with three home runs Pomo with 11 hits Bell debuted this week hit a couple of home runs Houston Astros you're paying attention Josh Bell may not be one of the sexy names that was available at the deadline but you got two home runs from Bell at least one of them was clutch in that Pittsburgh series could have use that in Houston maybe especially with how that offense is performing so you got some good stuff there from the bats in Arizona Zach gallon look good again this week he's looked good three times in a row now Diamondbacks are back this is the team I thought they were 17-8 in July after a 16 and 11 June Arizona is back they will grab a playoff spot that's one less look in my mind Atlanta's going to get a playoff spot Arizona gets a playoff spot those are wild cards Guys San Diego it comes down to if you're a national league team if you are the New York Mets if you are the St Louis Cardinal if you were the Pittsburgh Pirates the Giants any of those teams San Diego is the only team you're hoping to catch at this point you're going to hope that they continue to lose games at home that'll help you out you'll hope that they continue to produce that inconsistency that we have seen last year and we have still seen it at times this year otherwise again I think Arizona is Untouchable I think Atlanta yeah I get it it's close again the argument is well dude it's only like a game and a half two games I just think the the rest of the way who do I think is going to win more games between ER izona Atlanta the Mets Cardinals Pirates I think it's going to be Arizona and Atlanta I think the one team that maybe could be caught is San Diego and the number 10 team Kansas City Royals 63 and 50 moving up one spot only lost one game this week six and one altoe I'll be it against the white socks but it you sweep the white socks you get a check mark uh the Detroit Tigers took three out of four in Detroit good job and these are not top 10 teams that they're going up against they are bottom half of the league teams but they are taking six of the seven games that's what you need to do they scored 46 runs that's the third most over the last week Bobby Whit Vinnie pastino led the way both with 11 hits 12 runs driven in from Vinnie eight runs driven in from Bobby Bobby Wht in July has been well documented at this point 44 for 90 that was a 489 batting average and Ops over, 1300 on the season a 980 Ops 20 homers 25 stolen bases 94 runs 79 RBI he will push 30 homers he will push 40 steals he's going to go well over a 100 runs he's going to go over a 100 RBI and he's probably still going to finish in second place in the American League MVP which breaks my heart cuz I have money on it I wanted Bobby to win it but unless Aaron judge gets hurt and we don't want that uh it's it's Aaron judge's award but Bobby wit Jr is putting forth the season I thought he would the one element that's a little light for Bobby wit Jr I thought we would be pushing 40 homers again I think we'll push 30 I thought we could push 50 stolen bases again I think we'll push 40 so and those were the numbers that he really needed Aaron judge hit 50 home runs that's fine but if Bobby Whit Jr went out there and stole 40 or hit 40 homers and stole 60 bases Bobby Wht Jr may have might have had the edge but we're not seeing that power we're not seeing that the Solen bases accumulate in that manner so Bobby Whit Jr despite an incredible season an alltime kind of caliber season probably going to finish second in the MVP again unless Joe hurts unless judge hurts a toe and misses a month it's not going to happen it's there judges and we're going to be in trouble so here we go let's get number nine on the board this team is falling back one spot from number eight going to number nine and it is going to be the Atlanta Braves four and three week they could have held at the number eight spot if they could have finished business against the Miami Marlins that ended up being a split over the weekend we did see the power we saw 13 home runs last week that's second most we're looking for the Braves power to come back but the offense again fell asleep Saturday and Sunday AR and olssen led the way with three homers each Austin Riley not a ton of power this week we got the one home run but 10 hits I think the power will come there Max freed returned on Sunday against the Marlins and looked Rusty but he'll be fine uh except for Sunday uh pitching was good this week sail Morton Elder schwellenbach were good schwell does anybody call him schwell I'm going to call him schwell schwell doesn't walk people zero free passes over his last three starts and over those three starts the strikeout totals are 101 and eight the guy that everybody thought that walr would be and AJ Smith Scher would be that's what schwell and boach has been let's go to the number eight team and that will be the Boston Red Sox they will move up one from 9 to 8 after a 4-2 week taking two out of three for from Seattle and two out of three from Texas bats are alive and well in Boston de Durant abrao rafhaela Wong even Dom Smith they're all hitting pitching needs to be better though four times this week they allowed six or more runs now they only lost two of those four and that was because of the bats pitching has to be better though let's go to number seven and this team is holding on the number seven spot by the Skin of Their Teeth the Milwaukee brewers brewers went two and four this week they dropped two out of three to Atlanta they dropped two out of three to the Washington gats in Washington but they had built up they had built up enough of a buffer so they had just enough to hold on they're 62 and 49 Boston is at 59 wins so there's a three- win difference there but that's not going to enough to hold next week if this continues they only scored 26 runs over the last week and 16 of those runs came in the two wins they scored eight each so they did not do enough with the bats consistently but nobody in the central can get going to really challenge them so Milwaukee despite it is still in a comfortable position for the NL Central the Minnesota Twins are next in at number six so they will hold there for a second straight week they dropped two out of three to the New York Mets to start the week but then bounced back and took all three against the white socks again that's what you're supposed to do you go up against white socks you need to sweep the white socks buckon and Royce Lewis are healthy right now and hitting home runs Lopez obber and Ryan looked good last week and that's what's going to carry them the rest of the way you'd like to win that series against the Mets that's the kicker here Minnesota we we're viewing you as a top 10 team you got to get two out of three against the New York Mets Tuesday was really the day the early the first game of that series was just a Runway Tuesday was the close one they just could not get anything going against manah but bounce back sweeping the white socks that's what you need to do in the end it's a four and two week let's go to the number five team we crack into the top five here is it's going to be the New York Yankees they're going to hold at the five spot it was a good week this week they swept the Philadelphia Phillies they took two out of three from the Toronto Blue Jays scored a ton of runs 44 that was fifth most they hit the most home runs 15 Jazz Chism since showing up in the Bronx seven games now 9 for 30 with four home runs Aaron judge with four home runs last week that's 41 now on the season second place behind judge is nine nine home runs back 103 RBI for judge on top of it uh so the Yankees are in at 67 and 46 the Dodgers with a two and three week are going to hold at the number four spot you know what I'm here let me let me talk about the Dodgers for a minute and I'll tell you why initially I have them holding at the number four spot though I think I'm going to switch it uh dropping two and in fact I'm going to switch it here we go on on the Fly we're going to switch this the Dodgers are going to go to Five the Yankees are going to be our number four team the Dodgers this the dropping dropping both to San Diego really is going to hurt them here they took two out of three from Oakland this team though right now I still believe the Dodgers are better than the Yankees I'm sorry Yankee fans uh when everybody's there and that's the problem right now is everybody's not there have been dealing with a ridiculous amount of injuries so let's just let's just let's just keep that in mind as we move forward and you start thinking about the Dodgers are vulnerable the Dodgers are not good the Dodgers are missing so many guys you know about the injuries lately you've got the Freddy Freeman situation dealing with his personal matters so there's no Freddy right now there's no mooki they're missing so much of this team uh still able to play San Diego tough on Tuesday I mean that just comes down to trying and blowing a save Dylan CE was the better man on Wednesday and then they took two out of three from Oakland so despite missing as much as they are still able to again play a hot team tough and take a series against an Oakland A's team that have been playing good baseball as well in the endel will'll move the Dodgers back they'll they'll take a hit they'll go to Five the Yankees will move up to four we'll flipflop them let's get to the number three team and this team is going to move back another spot again the Philadelphia Phillies Phillies are 66 and 45 they won one game this week and here we go again should we move the Yankees up the Yankees swept them yeah we're gonna have to do it again Yankee fans I appreciate you your your patience and hanging with me here as I adjust this on the Fly I'm going to move the Yankees up to three uh the Yankees sweeping the Philadelphia Phillies so the Phillies are going to actually go from 2 to 4 after that scenario the Marin Came Calling next they only got one of those games against the Seattle Mariners six game losing streak for a top 10 team here or a top five team they snapped that on Sunday with Wheeler's start he was awesome and they really needed him to be team scored 43 runs last week or sorry team allowed 43 runs last week that was the fifth most they only scored 28 allowed 43 scored 28 that's how you you go one and five Philadelphia's got to get it back on track and and here's the thing talk about the Dodgers with injuries the Phillies don't have that the Phillies Don't Have Bryce Harper hurt Zack Wheeler hurt real muto's back Harper's there b is there nol is there they're there they're just not getting it done so the Philadelphia Phillies will fall back to four Yankees fans I appreciate your patience we have you up to three that is where it's going to stop though let's not get too excited that is where it'll stop it'll stop at three the number two team after going five and three this week took three out of four from Toronto and split with Cleveland will be the Baltimore Orioles Orioles in at number two they scored the most runs in baseball over the last week with 54 bounced back over the weekend after dropping the first two games to Cleveland to take the final two games Burns and effin won both of their starts this week and Gunner Colton cower sere and yes Jackson holiday are all hitting the ball well and watch out ELO Jimenez back-to-back multi-hit games over the weekend those two games they won against Cleveland ELO Jimenez out there wrecking the baseball so Baltimore will hold at the number two no that's not a hold that's a move up again sorry guys we're on vacation things are things are all over the place right now Baltimore will move up from 3 to the number two spot which means our number one team are the Cleveland Guardians for the second straight week 67 and 44 what I like about Cleveland lately is they're winning more games on the road that was one of their issues they were barely above 500 but then this week they took a couple games against the Tigers last weekend they took two out of three in Philadelphia so they're winning some games on the road that's a ball Mark of a champion go on the road win your games 67 and 44 now Al together after a 4 and2 week J Ram is on fire nine for 23 five home runs that's the most in baseball over the last week 11 runs driven in that is second most over the last week and Josh Naylor also 10 for 23 two home runs eight runs driven in I'm calling him baby jram I think I'm the only one on the planet doing it but you're getting great production from those two batch pitching is good enough can the pitching pitching was good enough last week can the pitching be good enough the rest of the way to carry them to the top that will be the question but Cleveland for the second straight week will be our number one team that's power rankings for August 5th I do appreciate you guys coming in and spending some time here as we roll
