College Football 25 Mizzou clutch final drive

welcome to Columbia Missouri Memorial Stadium and home to the Missouri Tigers where we are anticipating flid and Clash on for RO field today today a couple of SEC teams get ready to square off in what ought to be an oldfashioned slobber knocker as we'll see the Florida Gator taking on the 10th ranked team in the land the Missouri Tigers glad to have you with us for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis David poock and Jesse Palmer with me in the booth guys we are ready to te it [Music] [Applause] [Music] up Missouri about to kick off the the lid on this one that ball skips through the end zone it's a Touchback and they'll take over at the 25 yd line first down for this offense they'll give it to Johnson he's little Gams can start to add up as he gets it up to the 34 well it's plays like that that'll help this offense stay in Rhythm all game long if you can have that kind of success on first down running the football it just opens up your entire Playbook mov for after the nyd pickup on first down here's second and one but Jets pass and he gets it up to the 36 it'll be a first down and just went was something very easy very reliable Flip It Forward let your receiver do the rest I only got to get a few yards nice job nice execution first down now from the 36 yd line it's first and 10 he wants to throw gets it out quickly he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down and that's the looking man coverage you can throw the hitch route against right when the receiver's got a little bit of access so he's got some room to work with against press you're risking a pick six so good decision there by the Q knowing that was a good look to throw in there that completion leaves us with second and medium back to throw it's MERS unloads to the right he's got it nice job be by the receiver on the out route not telegraphing where he's going he can't be peing to the outside giving the defender an opportunity to break on the ball he kept his eyes right down the field DB had no idea where he was going and that helped make that completion a whole lot easier not able to break the big one on that screen to the running back but he found enough and a solid pick up on first down love the execution there in the screen the running back shows pass protect pass protect last second turns around so he's able to get the ball the D Lin have already run past him now he can turn up field for a big Gainer they're going to run it brought down to the ground but he has enough for the first down and the boys of old flid are getting it done on the ground and you've seen time periods in history in Florida where they didn't care about the Run Spurrier just throw it yeah Jesse throw it again yeah yeah throw it again just Chuck it around but I like when they commit to the ground game have some success to create some balance lost to throw on first down off the play fake got a wide open receiver they get him stopped at the 5 yd line but it will be first and goal from there these guys are called matchup guys they're not the biggest guys on the field but they're going to win short and they're going to catch the ball and they're going to make yards after the catch you can tell those are the type of guys in football that are starting to get maximized and used a lot more than they were in the past theyve got it down to the three now it's second and goal tries again to get it in going right back to the well and this time he finds water gets it into the end zone for the touchdown I think you about that opening drive for the offense is the balance they were able to throw the football to set themselves up into position and then he carries it in for the TV you got to be able to keep defenses on their heels and they did a nice job of that on this opening drive almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown he'll bring it out it's bur he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 and they'll get off one more play before the end of the quarter quarterback making adjustments with his receivers coming out on first down with the play fake that throw might have been a little too hot he couldn't haul it in in bounds that's the end of the first with score Florida Missi Z we'll get this quarter going with a second down play looking to throw it's cook they're trying to get to it using his legs to buy some time he was able to squirt free and pick up a few and avoid a negative play there well great job there by the defense because they weren't able to get him sacked right away but you saw the coverage in the back in nor with the quarterback to throw the football didn't get the sack obviously you don't get the negative play but you also don't give up a big one you're feeling pretty good about where you are right now in this drive using the quick game he steps out of bounds but he's got a first down on the play tell you what when you see a tight end come that open a lot of times it had something to do with the wide receivers running down the middle of the field stretching those safeties and he just slips out and kind of gets lost and the tight end was wide open on the outer part of the field puts him in the spin cycle good solid pick up on that one they got it out to the 40 and it's first down first down you know you always want to establish the running game how about this offense nothing fancy run the football be physical get a big game try to get the edge with a quick touch pass he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down and the Tigers come to the line with a new set of downs looking to move it through the air got it behind the line it's [Applause] Miller after that last completion it's second down he's looking to throw he tosses one high and deep down the left side and this is dropped incomplete pass he had a huge gain in his fingers and he couldn't hold on that's one of those plays you're going man he probably could have made that the defense wasn't great on the play but guess what it goes down as an incompletion those are one of those bullets that you got to dodge throughout a game to get the win to limit those big points well I think on that play you saw why this guy's such a big weapon in this offense that receiver he does such a nice job with his routes he's patient and he's consistent and he's got good hands you don't see him put a lot of balls on the ground nice job there picking up the first down looking downfield it's cook firing to the right complete they make the stop right there good pickup it's still short of the first down guys out of the back field now it's not just the ball downhill anymore you got to be versatile I got to be able to trust you in the pass game and I got to be able to throw you the football and you can do that right there I know you're going to catch it and I can depend on it and he gets the first down but man did he get the hit stick laid on his nogget I love the play call there too because second and short defense is thinking you might run it so you try to catch him off guard with the pass nothing there even if you throw an incompletion you're going to have a chance to run it the very next play but doesn't matter this guy is just so athletic himself he's able to go get the first it's got a fresh set of down a timeout is called as this offense tries to find away to get more points on the board before the half defense rose up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming quarterback reacting to what the D is showing on second down wants to throw it let it go to the end zone and that ball was in arms way and he is lucky to get that one back that is not good news for this offense guys I mean the defense only brought three on that play and they were still able to get after the quarterback this old line has got to play better it's still third and goal from the gun wants to pass forced out of the pocket fires into the end zone and he's got it touchdown by yeah and the passing game comes through man and we need more of that in the second half an extra point away from tying this football game you Trail a little bit in the first half stayed calm if this passing game can continue to heat up look out the second half the unit on the field bangs it through for an extra point precise Relentless execution on that 13pl scoring drive and they finish it off by connecting from 10 yds out he brought that thing out of the end zone with the idea of making a play but he didn't even get back to the 25 Florida has the ball back and here comes the offense now they need to put something together to answer that last score there's a lot of pressure too on this offense to have to execute at a high level they've got to score points David but they can't go too fast cuz their defense right now is tied and I think that's the difficulty being a play call like I have to balance all of those things my defense is a little bit tired I can't put on the field but I got to be aggressive because this is a back and for type game so a lot to process and think about finds the tight end and he go goes out of bounds after coming up with positive yardage there that's just a very easy comfortable throw for the quarterback he knows he has his big Target the tight end running across the field on the drag nice play blasted as he lets it go that pass is incomplete and they might be fortunate it wasn't knock free for a fumble it'll be third down well the offensive line has got to give him at least a little bit of time to survey the field he had no chance that time getting hit almost immediately he got the ball and that pass intercepted and they'll drag him down after a good return on the interception he looked as if he thought he had it all the way and this junior makes a Play What a big gamechanging play I love when you see defensive players they jump on the ball like they were the offensive guys so aggressive going and getting that pick creating some big Mojo for your team trying to start the drive with a pass buys a little extra time gets rid of it ball in the air intercepted have you ever met a wide receiver that isn't always open they always want the football they got so much confidence QB rolling outside the pocket trying to make a play receivers had an opportunity maybe to make a play but you know what I'm open throw me the ball throw my hand in the air you know what pick it goes on the quarter he's going to throw deep right side and that will be incomplete man that would have been a big hitter if they could have done it but second down coming oh man quarterback almost just threw his second interception on his many drives he's trying to fit that football in there it gets tipped up in the air he's lucky that wasn't picked off passes incomplete the clock is down to nine we've got a timeout in the waning seconds of the half maybe chance to get off a couple more plays running out of time here in the first half they're going to have to be efficient to put some points on the board before the break trying to move the sticks on third down through the air oh he's going to try to get it all here pass on the way it's picked off and he's wrapped up after a solid return on the pick this is obviously not a great start for this quarterback here two interceptions already in this game he's got to do a much better job with his decision Mak to throw it's cook the pressure on him and the quarterback goes down and that's how we'll wrap up the first half and the gator will kick it away first and we'll start the second half fielded In The End Zone it's Johnson they drag him down at the 22 he gambled for the big return out of the end zone and came up a little short Missouri has the offense ready to go on the field first drive of the second half always fun to watch you see what type of tweaks were made at the half especially when you're locked up in a ball game like this one yeah and it's been a good game I mean it's been a little bit of back and forth and a feeling out process and now what you get in the second half who's going to get aggressive makes the grab gets the foot down just Precision execution on that big play and this defense is going to have their hands full because they're going to need to be comfortable with guys one-on-one on islands in the perimeter of the field and they're just going to have to make better plays than what we saw right there they knew this offense was going to try to be aggressive got to need better in the back end for this defense I like it just frustrate the defense get that five to six yards make him on to the Run make them know that you're willing to run the football and run it effectively keep it on the ground shakes off the tackle stop is made at the 36 but he picked up 10 on that one and has a fresh set of downs the Tigers will line it up on First and 10 used the play fake now to throw going for it all and it'll be intercepted in the end zone and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception and we know turnover margin is a huge part of winning ball games interception number two this quarterback has to do a better job taking care of of the football Don't Force It take the high completion percentage stuff don't always try to go for the big play the gator sending the offense back to work the sledding has been tough scores have been at a premium Jesse in every possession seems like it could switch the momentum of the game yeah re for this offense just feels like they just haven't been as physical for this offensive coordinator David he's having to go deep into the play just to try to generate a first down and the good thing is there's not a ton of game pressure cu the other side scoring either but if you can find that one thing that get that one positive play and then maybe you get those juices going and something can start to build the Run game just has not been working for this offense all game long you saw it on that last play as well just not getting enough push up front on the offensive line they haven't been physical a hand off to Johnson they were all over him nowhere to go as that third down play turned into to a disaster and that's a great play by the defensive end the best athletes on the field play defensive end you can ask anybody yes I agree Jesse re see they agree with me same thing but you watch them get off the football make the play that's why you put your athletes there got it past the marker really needed a play like that to get out of their own end they move the chains they mark it at the 29 that took nerves of Steel to convert that fourth down on the throw oh man the crowd going nuts a big time opportunity in the third quarter to create some momentum help them go crazy help them go nuts but the offense does their job quiets the crowd gets the big fourth down conversion this defense is going to have to be careful not only do they have to worry about this guy running the football but they've got to keep their eye on him when he runs routes too he is a versatile back and that's going to be incomplete a lot of contact on the play but no Flags it'll be third down hey man if you're going to force incompletions when the QB's thrown at the tight end you better be physical nice job with the hit forcing that incompletion to the ground to try to pick up the first they thought they could just run it on Third and short but this defense was there to make the stop stopping the run is very high on every defensive coordinator's list making the team one dimensional nice job stuffing the run on that play right there on fourth down they're taking to the air makes a catch past the sticks just broke the tackle and still on his feet well they just drained all the suspense out of the fourth down conversion moving the chains easily back at it to open the quarter with this first down play the give to the back and they try the middle of this Stout defense and they rise to the challenge the defense going to stop the clock with the timeout they want to make sure they have everybody on the same page they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 unloads to the wide out holds it in brought down just outside the Red Zone he moves the chains it's at the 22 here's this offense with a fresh set of downs to the air it's MERS he makes the connection quick timeout by the defense there trying to make sure everyone has the same call well it's a nice job by the defender they closing the Gap with the wide receiver they're going to complete the hitch pass but he's able to run right up on him get him to the ground for a minimum game the throw and he dropped it it looked for all the world like that would be a catch and he just got too excited you know it's difficult for chb sometimes when you're throwing to your running backs because they're not receivers you really got to be perfect with the ball placement you got to make that a catchable throw a little bit too tough for the RB on that one grabs it in the middle he's brought down but he's got him inside the 10 first and goal from the eight and this offense can just about taste taking the lead in the fourth quarter but you do want to be careful not to score too quickly and they get to the quart and knock him down back at the 16 I think defenses sometimes get frustrated and you want to get Blitz happy and because you give up yards in this day and age you're going to give up yards who cares this is the area we got to Bow up nice job on first down stopping them a couple more Downs here to stay aggressive defense rose up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming the run up the middle trying to find his way to the goal line able to pick his way forward for a decent game before the defense gets him down it's all tied up this offensive line they want the pressure they want everything to go through them here they're saying look let's just run the ball let's get this thing down closer and closer to the goal line let's bleed some clock and put ourselves in position to win lost to throw for it on Third and goal and they're not quite in Rhythm there it's incomplete well I know it hasn't been a tremendous day statistically for this quarterback but his decision making has been good enough to win this game hasn't thrown a lot of TD so far but when things aren't open he throws it away like on that player right there he's not putting his team in a bad spot and that's why they still have a shot to walk out of here with a W oh and he missed it no good and in the final quarter of reg we remain TI well everybody in the stadium thought that was an automatic three not so fast bad Miss by the kicker now the quarterback changing the original play call looking for a man it's cook here he goes breaking the pocket brings it down on the right side a huge gain on that one before he ran out of bounds and he has the first down and let's hold on just a minute here as the officials are going to have a second look and they take another look at the play with the officials on the field we right and the play will stand they've got it first and 10 at the 42 he's looking to throw it they're bringing Heat hit hard as he released the ball on that first down pass and it never had a chance the Tigers will hustle to the line from the gun the running back has it they could have used a little bit more there pick up of three it's third and seven if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum third and long and he'll try to throw for it got his man quickly put it right on him sweet play good pick up and they'll move the change with the first down we asked earlier this week who's your favorite receiver and of course he said the open one but we know who he really wants to go to on third down the best one I mean I think the open one obviously the play correct answer but you want to find the guy that you got that great chemistry with you know exactly where he's going to be you got that Bond and that trust and they'll send out the field goal unit we've got a Timeout on the field and we are set up for a terrific finish Missouri has it ready to go with another first down use the play fake now to throw tight end finds a soft spot touchdown tigers and inside a minute to go and they've got the lead and how about this offense man they knew they needed to execute great play calling great Drive put it together now you got a chance to go up by seven late in this ball game and then let your defense go on the field and sealing through now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic the extra point is good and now in the fourth they're up by a touchdown and an extra point so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they top it off with a 14 yd pass for the touchdown he'll bring it out it's Wilson not nearly as much as he'd hop when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 Florida has the ball back and here comes the offense and they're going to have to fight this defense and they're also up against it with time Jesse yeah no doubt he's going for the big play he just about put this game away if he'd been able to hold on to that one instead it's second down well you know the defense felt freaked out on that one you're in the fourth quarter and you're lined up against one of the fastest players in all of college football and they're taking a shot up top you just hold on tight and hope for the best and that time they were able to force an incompletion the offense uses a timeout 15 seconds left to play got to get everybody lined up quickly time winding away and they've got to push the ball down the field to the air it's MERS zings it complete to the right good pick up there as he gets the first down and they'll Mark him at the 48 they'll call timeout with nine seconds left on the clock most important part of a clutch Drive piece together some first downs get in position and here they are on First and 10 he's going to pass looking to the big tight end complete downfield Timeout on the field and four ticks left to go inside the 25 they'll snap it from the 24 first down DB's lock up tight on the receivers deep shot for the end zone and it's incomplete and the final drive the game comes up empty you want to talk about building confidence
