defenses too because he can take the top off quick he safties better get back deep or else this guy's going to take it to the house after the productive first down play it's second and six looking downfield it's dampier fires to the wide out wide open downfield and he's brought down after a huge completion nice play design on that one you make it easy for your quarterback too because it's easy to see what's happening right in front of you over the middle of the field you can see where Defenders are dropping you can see where the soft spots are in zone coverage and just a really nice job by the QB locating his guide making an accurate now on second down after the good first down [Applause] run looking for a gap it's Sanders that one did not go well tackled in the back field for b six listen I know there are a lot of DBS out there that all they want to do is get interceptions and dance in the end zone this dude likes to put his face in the fan get close to the line of scrimmage and tackle and on the opening drive that he's out there he gets a huge tackle for loss early that is a statement play putting together a real scoring threat here as they pick up the first down at the 36 the Lobos are moving quickly down the field wants to throw on first down caught over the middle it's Miller and he is showing it all in finding ways to pick up yards he's down to the 28 here comes the offense on second down from the gun leaves it on the inside with the back he makes the tackle at the 23 yd line but not before a pick up of five and enough for the first down you know they Pride themselves on being physical at the point of attack dominated at the line of scrimmage nice job there picking up the first down they'll give it to him again Powers through the defender that run epitomizes a veteran Savvy senior who knows how to find space and the Lobos will try to put one on the board on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the Run they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one defense rolls up deep at its own end on that last play now a second and long coming the run up the middle trying to find his way to the goal line Relentless tough running gets it down to the four and you know exactly what time it is when you get down here in the Red Zone you got to be able to run the football but when you got a back like this who punches the ball in the end zone consistently almost every single game you are going to feed that animal The Rock catch in the middle it's PO he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage they'll try to get something out of this drive and kick the field goal here on fourth down from the right hash and this distance makes that angle not quite so severe we've reached the end of the first quarter and it has been a defensive battle and the stats tell the tale so far let's see if the offenses can find a little rhythm here in the second and they're going to head out the line up for a field goal and he'll try it from the right hash and the angle shouldn't be too bad from this distance oh the attempt is no good and after the Miss guys the score stays right where it is you can't miss opportunities like that you're playing on the road in a hostile environment you're trying to seize momentum right out of the gate you get a nice drive to start the game and then you miss the field goal you don't get any points to show for that if they're going to win this one guys they've got to take advantage of those types of opportunities guys we're about to get another look at this San Diego State offense looking for a productive play on first down he'll keep it himself plows through the defense he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down here's this offense with fresh set of [Applause] downs looking for room it's Tomlinson man that D tackle a freak athlete did you see him come out of his stance and beat the offensive lineman getting to the running back catlike quickness after picking up a couple at second and eight he's looking to throw he finds his man and Midfield he's got Ro he will step out of bounds but not before the [Applause] first down for this off offense I'll tell you what that's great execution between the QB and receiver they look like they could execute that throw in their sleep quarterback took his steps threw it on time great route by the receiver nice job securing the catch they'll run it out of the shotgun a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior I like feeding my guy I like getting my running back touches feeding the ball so he can break some of those big runs but I'm also okay with these little ones set the tone stay balanced picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down and down goes the quarterback there are penalty Flags down but it looks as if this might be on the [Applause] offense so the penalty will not be en forced the defense declines and stands on the result of the play here comes a third down situation and the defense hasn't been able to slow them down looking to throw and he needs a bunch that's caught it's Brooks Bing over the top they ripped off a big one and they get it down to the 27 that was a nice pickup running the drag route and finding that quiet soft spot in the zone yeah drag routes not only work against man coverage they work against zone two if you can find the soft spot and the quarterback gets it to him early he can turn up field and you saw that right there the Aztecs have it with a first and 10 two he'll pull it on the re and a decent gain there before the defense makes the stop yeah and that's the hard thing about these that can move and run all over the place and give you so many options is that that didn't even look like much but he chews up so much yardage and gets those little games that just Death By A Thousand Cuts that continue to happen in this off and the Aztec want to move quickly they'll snap it from the gun on third down gets it out quickly he is down at the one a terrific run after the throw and catch he might have expected to see this DB up in his receiver's kitchen instead nice little Zone and they pick up the first man offenses are getting so good Reese and he waltes in for the score touchdown ASX now that's the way to bail out the rest of the team start with bad field position put together a drive anyway and very confident you can see the quarterback just had a bit of a Swagger race he was like look all right we're starting deep in our own end special teams didn't help us out but we can fix that right now position nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 we will get another look at this New Mexico offense we talk about settling for points but sometimes when you have to settle for nothing David it can be demoralizing yeah it can definitely be frustrating and I think it leads you to say maybe I go for it more but Jesse I think this offense just needs to put another drive together and just finish Stronger Yeah and and be a little bit less predictable too especially as they get closer and closer down to the end zone wants to throw it's Danier pass on the way it's picked off trying to take it back touchdown San dieg go State and this defense coming up with points of their own what an interception to turn I'll tell you what as a DB you're lucky if you get one pick six in your entire Football Life this guy had won last game he's got one this game quarterbacks are going to stop throwing his way just theone and he'll bring it out pull down at the 18 and the decision to bring it out of the end zone was not a good good one let's see what the Robos offense has in store getting late here in the first half they'll have a chance to make this a one possession game and the offensive play caller here has to really be dialed in it's important down two possessions David that they're able to score some points you got to call your best stuff in this two-minute situation and and such a good opportunity to cut it to a onore game create that momentum get some good juic is going for the second half because obviously you know you built yourself a little bit of a deficit you need some good things to happen and needs to happen on this possession got out of trouble got rid of it back open in the middle and they knock him down but he got pass the line to gain they'll rush to the line clock stopped for the first down they'll set the chains and wind the clock looking to move it through the air starting to feel a little pressure and he's still running after the Move On The Run and he'll slide to avoid the big hit the hurry up now second down clock kicking he's looking to throw scrambling away and he avoids the hit and slides after the short gain Indie Car tempo as they head to the line for this third down play cross running looking downfield it's dampier finds his back in the middle BRS a tackle he's got room and the catch was one thing and the Run even better a big pick up on that one there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer they'll throw it on first down still looking on the Move he's going to be able to pick up a few yards before the slide he does a good job of dropping back going through his progressions nothing there what do I do go get some yardage make it positive don't sit back in the pocket and force something into a bad situation or take a sack great job making something out of nothing he's run out of bounds after the big G and they are in bus first and goal it's just so hard to stop there is no rhyme there is no reason he just scrambles around makes people miss and the next thing you know you look up and he's 20 30 yards down the field and there's nothing you can do about it and the quarterback is knocked down back at the 13 we got a timeout here late in the first half and they'll try to get more points on the board for the break dialing up a second down pass play he's got it in still on his feet and he'll step out of bounds after a very productive play Third and goal coming up here from the gun wants to pass pulls it in in the endzone touchdown Loos what a throw by the QB you think about you don't have much space near the sideline and he put that thing right on the outside of the sideline where his receiver could go make a play Not only does he make the play I'm pretty sure he got a foot in bounds and that's a great touchdown catch what a playmaker you get that touchdown right before the half build the momentum and the last thing you need to do is mess it up by allowing a big kickoff return from inside the 10 here he comes just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 running out of time here in the first half they're going to have to be efficient to put some points on the board before the break off the play fake on first down to throw trying to burn this defensive back the pass is incomplete and there are two kicks remaining on the clock DB does an outstanding job here on the Deep pass locating the football no Pi able to swat it away pass [Applause] incomplete touch pass on the Jet Sweep he'll be and I get it a lot of coaches will say the difference between winning and losing comes comes down to stopping big plays and getting big plays but if you ask me it's more about how good you are on third down and how efficient you are in keeping drives alive those two stats can help you break the will of even the best defenses and help you come out on top looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out guys let's see what adjustments this San Diego State offense has made this time a little pre- snap eye candy for the defense now the pitch got to be smart patient great vision uses all of that to get to the 29 coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that leaves it with the back the Aztec get it past the sticks this is a guy that can find you the hidden yardage that play he just pushes the pile to get that first down off the play fake on first down wants to throw quickly to the tight end you know tight ends are such matchup nightmares with problems for defense they're too big for DBS to cover and they're too fast for linebackers to cover you saw it right there on second down wants to throw he lost it high and deep down the left side oh and he gets downfield for The Big C what a beautiful throw and catch on this play and I love the job the receiver did tracking the ball in the air nice job of locating the throw and then hauling it in they get him down but not before he picks up six to the seven yd line I like this guy as a running back because he can run between the tackles and he can also go outside he can really do it all [Applause] operating in the Red Zone here on second down now the play fake he's got it they've got it down to the three yd line really well done on that throw and catch they were able to make the completion but he had to pick his way for just a little bit needed a little more help to Spring him for some yardage yeah if you're going to have success when you throw it outside like that you're going to need some more blocking and better blocking down field give the defense credit though they were able to rally and made a tackle quarterback run is part of their game plan and he runs it in for the score touchdown azx and the offense continues to run the football a second rushing touchdown from the running back the offensive line paven holes continue to feed this man the ball [Music] they'll try to add another to their lead exra point and the extra point will tack another one onto this that'll do it for the quarter guys and San Diego State is on top let's take a quick look at the national rankings to see how this playoff race is shaping up we'll get this quarter going with a second down play on the run it's Sanders Quick Step and go and he's brought down after a nice game well the good news is you got the first down running it there on second and short but the bad news is you're down by quite a bit here in the fourth quarter and two three four yd gains aren't going to get it done you've got to start chucking this thing vertically to get back in the game knocked down at the 24 yd line but it's a big gain 15 yard on the play and this offense is in business they'll ride the running back and leave it with him and he broke one tackle on the way to a solid pick up there and I would just hate to be in the shoes of these Defenders trying to tackle this running back because of course you're so afraid of this guy shaking you and using his Elite Speed to make you look bad on a highlight film somewhere but you forget this guy can still run you over you saw it on that throw him to the spot and that's exactly what he did to pick up the first down and that's so many hours of doing this together you know exactly when he's going to break on that out route you know what kind of speed In The End Zone touchdown New Mexico touchdown well we wondered exactly where the momentum was and it looks as if Uncle Mo might have switched Sidelines and switched families and momentum is such a big thing it's such a real part of college football isn't it and you can just feel that right now just felt a few minutes ago like this game was over and all of a sudden this team they're believing in themselves they've got some win they've got some hope their defense now needs to get the football back to keep that momentum going and with the extra point they're down at touchdown 2114 just about set to kick it away and here's the return he's out of Bounds at the 31 after a nice return San Diego State takes over as the offense is ready to go to work and they've got a little bit of a a cushion here David if they can add to it on this drive it would be nice and it definitely makes a little bit of a difference knowing I'm up by more than a field goal obviously Jesse my mindset switches and I know I can't make mistakes yeah and David I don't think they have to reinvent the wheel on offense here what they've been calling has been working just get back to doing what you're good at now on second down after the short completion moving the running back forcing the defense to [Applause] adjust and it'll be incomplete this def def is physical and pass deep my job is to make sure that ball comes loose and I got to go through that guy use my shoulder pad drive my feet and really really be physical cuz if he bobbles it at all or as soon as his hand gets to the ball you can tell the difference when that body jerks forward and that ball starts to come loose and pop out and the Aztec will snap it on First and 10 they'll keep it on the ground the is on their side he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three last play was a near disaster now dealing with second and 13 he's looking to throw fires to the middle and it's intercepted a huge fourth quarter play for this defense and a big return after the int sets up the offense for this possession well what a play by the defense there trailing here in the fourth quarter by one possession able to peal it away now and put their offense in position to at least go tie this game let's see what the Lobos offense has dialed up this time if you like oldfashioned grind it up run over him football that last touchdown Drive was and he can't find a receiver and down he goes and come on now o line got to take care of your quarterback he takes care of you he's the one who takes you to meals he's the ones that get you those nil deals fires deep toward the end zone and it's caught touchdown Loos getting set for the point after and no problem on that extra point and we have a tie ball game here in the fourth this offense Prides itself on going after you and they did with that long touchdown pass to finish off a two-play drive on the run from inside his own five just never had a chance chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 and the offense heads out onto the field to get the drive started trying to find his man on first down snagged in the middle it's Tomlinson and he's brought down at the 40 yd line and that'll be a first down they'll hurry to the line with a clock still running quarterback checking off going up top on first down now he's going to Glide away from pressure he's going to take off and that defense is there to guide him out of bounds after a short gain and now on second down for this offense he's looking to throw quick strike complete tackled but he has a first down and when run those drag routes it just takes a little bit of knowhow and when I say that the receivers got to understand find Space my quarterback's going to find me he's looking for that space at the same time nice throw nice catch way to get the first down comes out throwing on first down pressure coming just gets rid of the football nobody to throw it to it'll be second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again on second down they'll take to the air he puts a lot of air under it down the sideline and that's going to be incomplete going for broke on second down but third Downs coming up they need to get a little closer for a field goal try and they've got to do it in a hurry third and long and he'll try to throw for it quarterback strolling away from heat on the move he fires oh man another incomp and that's three in a row it's been tough for this QB in this one very small Windows to throw into and he's been under some duress as well it's hard to find a rhythm as a QB in those types of situations and that's why it appears as though his team's going to be leaving here with an [Applause] L on fourth down they'll pass for it looking deep down the right side can't find his man it'll be incomplete and that is a heartbreaker this late game all knotted up in just a little bit of time left in regulation they'll come out on this drive and let it rip dances way to BU time on the run and he'll slide to avoid the hit a Nifty pick up there we've got a Timeout on the field and we are set up for a terrific finish from the gun the ground game and this one will be stopped for no game will hurry to the line here to try to get off that third down play back to pass it's Danier oh and it's picked off this could be huge in a tie game God room on the return touchdown San Diego State the defense put six on the board with a big time interception return what a play by this defense the offense going in to take the lead no no no flip the script the big pick six now you're leading in this ball game what a play by the Deep the extra point is good and now in the fourth they're up by a touchdown and an extra point they might want to consider driving this one through on the ground get him to touch it and get that clock [Applause] running he'll bring it back from inside is [Applause] five they've got to move quickly here still a chance but they've got to force the ball down the field he wants to start this drive with a pass gets away from one got a in it's Sanders the pass on first caugh by the no on the second coming up get everybody lined up quickly time winding away and they've got to push the ball down the field looking to throw on second down he wants a big play here late it's complete a huge pickup and he breaks into the open and he gets it in for the touchdown time has expired they're down by one they can send it to overtime with the kick or win it with the two how about the Hail Mary listen you're supposed to throw that thing way up in the air he puts it up in the air High the defender you're not supposed to try to catch it you're supposed to knock it down it gets deflected and how about the concentration by the receiver to catch the football make the play with all those bodies around him and this is a knee knocker pressure on this kicker to send it to overtime and that extra point was good and we are deadlocked here in the fourth four quarter is not enough to settle this one we are headed to overtime and these teams have played so well back and forth evenly contested game how about a little free football Jesse yeah I love this David free football and finding out which of these two teams is the most mature who can settle down now with the game on the line and make the big play all right guys so here we go in overtime and just to ref ref fresh everyone's memory alternating possessions starting on the opponent's 25 and you want to play defense first because you want to know what you need that's a key philosophical approach for most teams when it comes to overtime David yeah and remember the rule changed a couple years ago too in in the second overtime and two-point conversion all this stuff is situ ational type football that you better have worked on three points to show for the drive and with that they've taken the lead down by three it's their turn here in overtime a touchdown will win here's first down he Wast no time and comes out throwing and they won't make the connection going for the big play the Aztecs come to the line in the hurry up wants to throw on second down finds his man it's Tomlinson huge game before he goes out of bounds and now they've got it first and goal quarterback will keep it really nice stop there from this senior leader and they want this defense spread out across the width of the field he's in a game wining touchdown in overtime game on the line and they've got to be the more physical side great job getting blocks up front he was able to skirt his way into the end zone David to win this game and that's why I want the ball second and OT I know exactly what I need to go get it done they they take it down the field run in the end zone and end the football game so that's going to do it for us for Jesse
