welcome to the birth place of college football Campus of rers University of Piscataway New Jersey where the game will be a little more technical but no less in in that Showdown with Princeton in 1869 today a big 10 clash and you know when you square off against a conference opponent the blood boils a little hotter as we'll see the Wisconsin Badgers taking on a squad hoping to prevent another L this week the rer Scarlet Knights for EA Sports college football I'm Rees Davis joined here at the booth as always by David poock and Jesse Palmer guys let's te this one up the Badgers will kick it away to start us [Applause] off and they desperately wanted to attempt a return but decided not to instead they'll take the Touchback so the record Scarlet Knights offense will get the first crack at it here here he comes and obviously defense is always going to be aware of a quarterback but boy he finds a way to put defenses on their all the time David I mean what can't he do he's got the weapons he's got the confidence he's got the experience Jesse these kind of guys are so hard to defend you're right they better be able to find a way to get pressure on him because if they don't this is going to be a long day picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down pocket starts to collapse and the pressure gets there and down he goes at the 18 and he just got the on Wisconsin call and went on into the back field to pick up the sack yeah jumping around on quarterbacks in the back field really good job getting up Field playing aggressive playing like their hair's on fire Wisconsin linebackers do that year after year and not the optimum set up to try to salvage the opening drive with a third and long they'll move the running back to try to Force the defense to adjust unloads to the wide out oh they really could have used that catch there physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down I think for the quarterback he's going to have to be so good with his eyes in this game you're going up against one of the best defenses in the country you got to look guys off especially when you're trying to throw to your primary target like he was on that last one he's got great speed and the returner is stopped so Wisconsin offense has the ball for the first time as we take a look at our impact players for this one what are you looking for Jesse for a guy to make an impact well these are simply put the leaders of this football team and generally games go how these guys play if they make plays they've got a shot to win this one no doubt they got to show up these he's Off to the Races he's at the 10 and he's sprinting he'll take it all the way touchdown Badger and to have a rushing of that type of yardage you've got to be able to make something Miss it's one thing to get into the second level but can you make that last Defender Miss and you saw it on that play once he was in the clear with his speed he was gone they'll try to attack one more on their score the extra point and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game what a way to send a message huge play in the running game one snap and you've got a touchdown on the board kickoff team has the ball teed up and they're about ready to [Applause] go and they thought about a return Then thought better of it they'll bring it out to the 25 ruter has it back they'll send the offense back on to the field field boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah in the last Drive nothing really clicked no rhythm got off the field really really quickly they need to put something together here PA yeah David bad execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath and start playing like a unit on this dve the give on the inside and maybe they want to try somewhere else because there is nothing doing in the middle of this defense defense is about firing off the offensive guys and staying in your gaps everybody knowing where they're supposed to be you could tell the defense everyone was right where they're supposed to be nowhere to run trying to move the sticks on third down through the air he's got it and they finally get him down but not before he's got him set up for bus at the 49 yd line and the Scarlet Knights want to crank the tempo pulls and fires it complete to the right and the catch was one thing and the Run even a big pick up on that one the Scarlet Knights this off rolling they'll try the run really nice stop there from this senior leader man that de tackle is a freaked athlete did you see him come out of his stance and beat the offensive lineman getting to the rning back catlike quickness from the shotgun now here's an inside oh look out there he goes and he Wales him for the score touchdown State University of New Jersey Bo did he just SC that defense for that score he shows you all of he's got he's got the speed he's got the agility this dude's a big time playmaker just give the ball and he'll find different ways to kill you on different plays and he TS on the extra point and we're all square as he's set to kick it [Applause] away from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 the Wisconsin offense will come back on the field to jump around a bit David they love to do what they did last time and put this one in the end zone you ain't lying they did a great job the offense was clicking everything went well Palmer they exec and got the touch and they really were in a nice as well I'd love to see that here on the next drive to just keep doing what you're doing everything seems to be working and you seem to have this defense on their field he'll push his way out to the 30 a pick up of three now this offense facing a third and long from their own 30 looking to pass it's van Dy fires to the wide out and the misconnection on third down and the Badgers will putt this one away this will be their first punt of the afternoon yes the first one of the day off and hoping he's not as busy as he was in that loss last week when he kicked it four times he was hoping for a little more Running Room but they're able to get him down at the 45 and the ruers offense heads back onto the field how big is this drive touchdown the last time they had it defense gets a stop and now oh look out the 20 touchdown Scarlet KN and once he got loose it was all over quarterback's abilities to read the field is huge and also the anticipation the time to be able to throw the football Jesse and hit a guy in stride so he can get run after the catch and get in the end zone that was a nice job by the quarterback yeah it's critical David listen a lot of times touchdown passes AR thrown into the end zone you got to read the coverage hit the open guy and let him do the rest and he takes this from inside the five good job by the coverage unit to put a stop to that return and Wisconsin has it offense back on the field the last time we saw this offense we had to look quick it was a three and out Jesse we just had no ribbon in that last drive so someone's going to have to step up and make a play David and get this thing going yeah let's find some juice find your guy find those plays that you know you can run inside out forward backwards get some first downs get some positive momentum hand off from the shotgun and they'll spot it at the 38 and that'll be plenty for the first down wow the running back there showing you his skill set as he's able to rip off that one for a first down it's first and 10 from the 38 yd line he's going to pass trying to get to him and the pressure gets to him down goes the quarterback that's the last thing you want as an offense a negative play a sack on first down looking for a man it's van D and that's going to be knocked away and incomplete as time has expired here in the first quarter how about these two running games so far dominance on the ground as we look at the first quarter stats they switch ends of the field and we're ready to get things started here in the second back on the field after the break and we'll start the quarter here on third down looking down field and he needs a bunch they'll throw it to the back on the screen still on his feet at the 45 he's loose he flips his field in an instant and he's got him set up at the 20 phenomenal play call by the offensive coordinator you're calling screen passes to take advantage of a good pass rush and that's exactly what happened the offensive lineman they just let those defensive ends run up the field quarterback did a perfect job holding on the ball to the last possible second getting it out to his running back and man that running back had a convoy out ahead of him the Badgers have their offense in high gear they'll give him maybe one on the play it's down to the 20 you know runs like this often times or like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but blows and as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into longer runs and those two couldn't make the connection it's an incomplete [Applause] pass they've got it right on theedge of the Red Zone but they face a third and long from the gun wants to pass fires toward the target got it and he will score touchdown Wisconsin can these guys just score from anywhere out there after that drive he sure looks that way and that's what separates really good offenses from great offenses when you're backed up in a bad position and you can still fight your way out and go get you a touchdown that's a great drive by the offense and the extra point is good all tied up just about set to kick it away [Applause] returner will field it and try to get some field position and they'll get him on the ground as the offense comes out to start the next drive all right guys so here's the offense back on the field again the way this game started you feel as if you have to score a touchdown every time you have it and now we'll see if they can respond yeah and I wonder how much pressure that puts on the offense Jesse like you know this is back for I got to score and every possession matters so much what does that do to you as a quarterback well it puts a lot more pressure on you for sure to feel like I got to make every third down throw if guys are open vertically down the field I got to hit them too we can't let our serve get broken hey bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one that player is so lucky he did not put that football on the ground what a tackle by that Defender phenomenal individual effort getting that tackle for loss not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 receiver wasn't ready for the throw incomplete and the Scarlet Knights line up to punt it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away running it back it's Williams and the returner goes down the Wisconsin offense will come back on the field to jump around a bit this could be a real point in the game they scored a touchdown they got a stop and now a chance to break the tie yeah this offense has got it cooking man and how about the defense great job getting that stop getting the football right back to the hot hand now this offense Palmer has a chance to take the lead you can see the offense too they understand the situation right now they were jonesing on the sidelines to get another opportunity to run back on the field they are ready to drive this B and go score they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three running back searching for a hole finally pulled down but not before moving the change for a first down and the Badgers come to the line with a new set of [Applause] downs to the ground he's got it again he almost punched it in for six they'll get him down at the one yd line on the doorstep of cashing it in for the offense barrels ahead he knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple listen the offensive coordinator's best friend in the red zone is the running game make guys commit near the line ofing so I can throw behind this defense is good but I'm going to challenge them I'm going to try to be the more physical team I love the play call I think you keep running the football and stay fors and and works his they finally get him down at two and with the stuff there Jesse on second down this third to midrange you got two downs what do you thinking here maybe getting your quarterback out on the perimeter and giving him a run pass option see if you can get the defense in a b and they've moved closer and closer and still they need two yard third and goal he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple the defense going to stop the clock with the timeout they want to make sure they have everybody on the same page looks as if they'll send out the field goal unit never a doubt and they've gain the lead they were able to get a field goal on the board and now they'll kick it [Applause] away on the run from inside zone five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 ruter has it back they'll send the offense back onto the field last time David it was one two three kick the last dri that three and out sometimes that puts your defense in a bad spot and you got to get a drive together here so you don't wear the defense out I just think daveid too predictable that last Drive they got to do something here to get this defense on the field the Scarlet Knights want to move quickly looking to move it through the air throws to the wide out and the pass hit picked off bulldozes his way through and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception and that's just excellent covers man cover one nowhere to throw the football look at everybody playing man across the board and you still got the safety in the middle of the field nobody open and if I'm the QB man I don't need to force it I I Don't Force It In The Tight Windows if it's not there he throws it unfortunately gets the interception bad decision by the QB there quick timeout called by the offense after the play hard when you get in those predictable situations defenses are sitting on the sticks receivers have to understand where that first down marker is heads up play knows for the first down marker get in there and get itall put it up for grabs and I thought he had it but somehow fing they'll spread the defense out going five wide on second and 10 as a quarterback this is going to be a very tough game you're going up against one of the top 20 units in the entire country they know who your primary Target is they're going to be keying on him just like they did that last time forcing the inom third more manable from the 24 can the defense Stand Tall looking to throw for it and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knock the ball to the ground fourth down coming up got to give the defense credit on that play taking everything away forcing the incompletion now it's decision time fourth and short in your in field go range what do you do here quarterback changing the plays at the line on fourth down trying to find his man got it past the marker well they just drained all the suspense out of the fourth down conversion moving the chains easily the offense calls timeout it's the second one they've used this half [Applause] the Badgers will try to put one on the board on first and goal looking down field it's van snags it good throwing catch takes it down to the five as the offense tries to cash in the run up the middle trying to power to the goal line he's got it down to the one yd line on the doorstep of trying to push their way into the End Zone on Third and goal and he was able to run through one tackle but still only a modest game second quarter might not be gamble time but inside the three Palmer I've got the green light I'm going for this I am too and you're essentially running a two-point play here right you've got a play you practice all week long that's the play you dial up right here offense calls a timeout here critically important to make sure they have the right play call and everyone on the same page here and in the waning seconds of the first half they'll try to put up three before going to the break just drives it between the uprights they'll Trot off to the locker room after the field goal to close the half that's the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin in our halim update all right guys looks like we've got a great scene there today in Piscataway talk about a first half from that dude out of the back field he's been a total Game Changer and how many top plays moments have we seen on Miss tackles Alone video game moves from one of the shiftiest players in all of college football and with that let's send it back to the guys inside the birth place of college football and the Scarlet Knights will kick it away to crank up the second half it bounds through the back of the end zone it'll be a Touchback and Wisconsin has its offense back on the field if it's working why changeing and that running game was working in the I imagine we'll see a lot more of it here in the third quarter and you just know the offensive line was telling their coordinator put this on us let us continue to go out there push these guys around we can put this game on our back and end this thing by running the ball and this is a manhood question for this defense like as a defensive lineman and you're pounding the rock pounding the rock like I got to physically rise to this challenge this defense has to play more inspired and More Physical in the second half it's Theo of this offense they really a lot the offensive line to go out and really try and establish their dominance and their assertiveness and they've done a good job of that early in this game running football and the Badgers come to the line in the hurry up dropping back it's van djk and the third down pass is incomplete third and short like that on your own side of the field you're just looking for a quick hitter you're trying to get the ball out of your hand quickly but the timing completely off there for the Def and the ball Falls in they're in their own territory but they only need a few inches and this is why you square your prominent jaw line and go straight ahead to get it they stop him of the marker and they'll turn it over on down a first down for the offense takes a hand off it's Monaga that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there the Run game just has not been working for this offense all game long saw it on that last play as well just not getting enough push up front on the offensive line they haven't been physical after picking up a couple at second and eight out of the gun the inside G he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple this has got to be disappointing if you're the offense guys you were expecting to have a lot of success running the ball especially against this def which has struggled so much this season but just nothing doing they have not been good enough in the trenches so far pass on the way it's picked off he was trying to get that return going instead he'll hand it to his offense at the 38 most defenses are lucky if you have one good covering Corner fewer are lucky if you have two they've got three DBS three corners that can play the same time in their nickel package that they feel can go mono imano with anyone in the country and you saw that last play coming away with the pck finds his man it's Anthony they stop him almost immediately there and still a little ground cover to pick up the first out of the gun they give to the back and just wedges it ahe he's down and these defensive tackles just eat people they swallow human beans when you get near they're so big so strong those guys those running backs coming they just need a mid they put one on the running back and he usually falls to the ground just because of their sheer mass and strength really nice job there by the quarterback understanding that it's Zone coverage on third down you're going to have to find someone working into a soft spot get the ball out of your hands quickly make an accurate throw and pick up the first well great by the defense there they got to do more this running backs obviously a lot of success they got to continue to stop this run game be physical and not let this guy beat on the last play it's second and 10 back to pass it's van DK get it out on the screen nice move to keep running they finally get him stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some range for their running back the Badgers are on the [Applause] move on the ground it's meoi not much working there second and N with the running game on first down now back at it looking to throw on second down caught over the middle it's Pauling coach said never go broke taking a take what's there take the never complete already fi goal range at the 21 but this third and short they're still thinking touchdown rush coming in hot and they got him at the 29 and this kicker is turning into Old Reliable he's already knocked through a couple today the field goal is no good the lead is still six after the Miss as we come to the end of the period Wisconsin has the lead and as we switch ends of the field let's take a quick look at the national rankings back at it to open the quarter with this first down play Ed the play fake now to throw oh he had it right down the middle and it just squirted right through his fingers and they miss an opportunity for a nice play on first down after the misfire now on second down they'll run it behind the big guys on the left he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and you got to love this defensive performance so far done such a good job against the running back that you saw last week man he can go off he can make big plays he can chew some yardage up and keep an offense on schedule nice job by this defense locking in and shutting down the Run game so far the Scarlet Knights in the hurry up and as a def how scary is it having to defend this guy he's one of the fastest players in America and you saw it on that last play it's not necessarily throwing him the ball over your head they just get it to him quickly the hard part now is running and tackling that guy not easy to do a big fell the tight end the wide receiver in a tight end's body going up and making the catch going to the running game a solid up there before the defense is able to make the stops and you know when we talk about great third down defenses it really starts with them getting stops on first and second you've got to get those stops early in the drives to set up third and long so that's a missed opportunity on that second that just never had a chance as they contr the middle of the field and stopped him in the back field on third down fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way and the ball will bounce at the four and find its way into the end zone for a Touchback the Wisconsin offense will come back on the field to jump around a bit they keep it on the ground clock is their friend building momentum picking up a chunk of yardage moving the chains out to the 34 let's see how they set the tone on First and 10 he's looking to throw it safe completion on the screen and he's knocked down down but there's also a flag that's been dropped let's check on the call they say you could call holding on every play well they did on that one first down here for the offense back to throw it's van DK unloads to the wide out got his and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play well we see another catch by this guy this defense is going to need to do a better job of tackling the catch in coverage I know they want to slap the ball away but if you can't do it and force the incompletion you've got to at least make sure you're able to drag him down to the ground as soon as you catches the ball and I think this is where coaches really earn their money late in games right it's in the fourth quar you got do you want to stay concerned and run the football because I see the defenses they start to get aggressive and so sometimes you can take the other hand and take advantage of we've reached a two-minute warning in this offense trying to milk this clock and keep time on their side ordinarily on second and 10 you might look past but here you just want to keep that clock moving quick hand off they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one quick timeout by by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense backers moving trying to confuse the quarterback this is a big third down if they can move the chains they can just about salt this game away they'll go to the air time to take a shot and it's caugh inside the 25 and he eluded the defense and he'll take it all the way touchdown Badger number that should move them closer to this elusive second win of the year as they build this fourth quarter lead and you know late in the games offenses sometimes get conservative when they got the lead and they got the ball I love this offense they were aggressive they got another score added to the lead now you're trying to Salt this game away on top of the pile and these decisions to go for two you see more and more of it throughout a game chasing points and then in the end you wonder if this just comes back to bite you and it'll be a touch back the ball will come out to the 25 yd line and the ruers offense heads back onto the field David the putter got some work last time they'd like to keep him on the sidelines in this drive yeah it's not something you want to say very often you don't want the putter out there this offense needs to get back lathered up and get a little bit more of the RN best way to do that identify where your best players are and just get them to football give these guys some touches to Kickstart this offense that pressure got to him and he just had to Chuck it out of bounds probably the toughest call on the play sheet third and long Ball's at the 25 from the gun wants to pass catch in the middle it's long just got the feeling this defense is going to make it hard on them right they've got the lead it's late and they're going to try to tackle everybody inbounds offense is going to have to really work for this and be smart you got to attack the sidelines you got to throw first downs you got to keep this thing moving vertically down the field and the fourth down pass Falls incomplete and they'll have to give up the football here comes the offense on first down [Applause] takes a hand off it's malusi really nice stop there from this senior leader timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the back and as as possible picked up two yards on that last when they need eight on second down the receivers telling the quarterback what they see to the air it's Van Dyk complete to the right that is exactly what you're looking for when you talk explosive plays the defense finally able to make the stop I tell you what these Big B catch the football in the corner routes it doesn't have to be a perfect throw you know usually you got little guys it's hard you got to put the ball more on the money but this big dude can just go up and get it you just throw it near the sidelines he'll do the rest with the run on first and goal they get him on the ground at the three yd line but this defense taking some punches see if they can get it done on second and goal tries again to get it in touchdown Wisconsin and they take it in for six more points they're now in really good shape to get back into the wi column as they extend the lead here late and no problem on the extra point as they push the lead to 19 here in the four these guys looking to put the finishing touches on this game with that score yeah and I think you feel confident that ends it right late in the game it would take a miracle for the defense to get back in it that Miracle is no longer coming now ruter has it back they'll send the offense back onto the field the deficit is large hope is fainting but they'll try to finish strong made a lot of mistakes in this game and that's why it looks like they're going to take the L lots of things to improve on lot things to coach upon and at this point I think if you're a head coach David you're just trying to see which of your guys aren't quitting late yeah which is a real thing by the way he's going to compete to the final whistle who what do we talk about all the time coaches are always preaching to these guys don't worry about the Schoolboard just compete as hard as you can so good opportunity to try to finish this game with something positive almost had the completion just missed now well the defense really stepped up in this game they knew they had to slow down this passing attack they knew they had matchups they were going to have to win one-on-one they've been able to do that and as a result he puts a lot ofir under it down the sideline a sensational grab down the field there as they try to at least put a positive spin on the end of this game and a nice touchdown continuing to fight Contin to play this one it's pretty much over down multiple possessions this late in the football game it would take a miracle but nice job by this offense Contin to fight push the ball down the field make plays and the extra point was good as they finished the drive quick strike off on that play scoring drive time is against them still down by two scores but they'll line up for the onside kick they were ready for the onside kick and executed perfectly and they secure the football yeah and this is why you put your hands team on the field most of the time when you know it's coming and you put those guys that are great catchers of the football the first guys what do they do they go block they go blow somebody up next catch the football secure get your butt on the ground and most of the time when you do this the ball game is over winning those individual sixc battles every Play Time After Time After Time After Time and that leads to a victory here and I love when teams go out and play like it's sudden death like if they lose the game their entire season is over this game wasn't for the national championship but would you wouldn't know that watching this winning team David tremendous effort and tremendous I love competitive people I love competitive coaches I love competitive teams that they know that their job is to go out and get a w no matter how no matter where you play you want to play in the parking lot we'll go meet you great job of this team being ready getting the W that's going to do it for us for Jesse
