Vanlife Caravan In The Desert | Cooking A Steak Feast for My Friends

Intro [Music] why did I park so far self-served propane exchange I've never seen that [Music] before when the door opens please remove you're ready to go to who pretty nifty that's nice they I have to go in and get propane but this one's Meet my friends pretty heavy so today we're not going to be alone again because contrary to popular belief I do have friends and with living in a van full-time I have made a lot of friends that also live in their vehicles and it's kind of hard to get anything organized with vehicle people because we're always in the move and we're always changing location but I have three or four friends who are in the area they're meeting me here at Walmart to start a trip up to Northern California and I'm going to be caravanning with them up there and we met up at Walmart one because it's our home away from home and two because we need to pick up supplies for the road trip cuz I did a deep clean of the van the other day after using all my food cleaned out the fridge and the pantry so I need some supplies also tonight I'm cooking family dinner and I think we're going to do steak I also got here a bit early so I could have some time to uh do some shopping before my friend get here all right so I'm just realizing now that this is one of those Walmarts that only has dry foods and doesn't have like a fresh produce section or a meat section so she's going to grab some snacks here and then we'll have to stop at another grocery store I'll wait here in the parking lot till my friends get here oh you know what actually looks like they're all already here what up we done they didn't have uh no meat yeah no meat no produce hey Maggie hello so this is Carter Kyle Maggie Nick Nick lives in the bus Kyle lives in the van and Carter and Maggie both live in that Pro Master over there but I'm going to go put these away real quick and then I'll come back out so this is my first time caravanning with people as I said but I got a little bit of uh something extra for everyone to uh to use while we're driving down the road got walkie-talkies oh nice color The Bu green can you hear me over we only have like a mile like a mile range so we have to stay kind of close to each other which might be hard for Nick since he's in the uh bus cuz he can hit maybe 60 M hour all right I'll meet you guys back here after I go to the Grocery Shopping store luckily there is a grocery store right next door that should have everything I need food for less we'll see about that H well I wouldn't necessarily say for Less I was hoping they were going to have fillet all they had were these so that'll have to do all packed up ready to go oo it's hot also for some reason I don't know if anyone can tell me this my reverse camera my backup camera is flipped upside down just randomly happened one day when I put it in reverse the camera was upside down instead it right side up if anyone has any ideas why that would happen let me know you ready to go oh yes sir you guys making breakfast um s making a snack making some coffee for the road in your Road Trip van all right are we all ready to uh be whatever your other guys' names are beef ready to pop 10 let's go should we go no music or does music matter for these first 15 minutes got to be no music music can't have copyrights now what if we sing a song that sounds almost identical to the actual recording would you be copyrighted I don't think so she's got seems that was beautiful merging on the highway how's the Caravan looking Stone head in the rear over can I be rubber ducky because I legitimately have a rubber duck right here so we've got silver lader we've got Copperhead we've got bus beef and we've got a rubber ducky bus beef you can hit us one of with any of those jokes to the bathroom to the bathroom while in the bathroom that's a good one what are you on the way to the bathroom you're a walking you're a Campgrounds Russian first Pit Stop of the trip chck place in some of these so our first Campground that we're going to today is like 3 and 1 half hours away called Trona Pinnacles we had to find somewhere that had enough room for all four of our vehicles to park there and this place should so [Music] Lost Caravaners all right so we have made it to where we are camping tonight we've lost two of our caravaners so I'm going to park right here and wait for them I'm sure they'll see us when they drive by do you see them back there there they are Nick's just a little bit slow in the school bus I need to have music going down these roads I hate hearing out the van sound beautiful out here [Music] all right so we've made it up to kind of right before the entrance down into Pinnacles got to wait for them they're taking it kind of slow and the Nick is all the way back there I don't know if you can see him but I think I see a uh campsite I don't know if it'll pick it up on camera but it is that little outcropping right there there's a fire ring in there so once uh Nick makes his way up here we're going to go down [Applause] there how's it going oh it's going great did you make it one piece holding you guys [Music] up not a bad campsite for the night and Caravan Tour no one else is out here since it's the middle of the weekday which is great you guys want to start like dinner I guess in 30 minutes-ish first time uh caravaning though feels weird to be out here with other people they're outside having fun with their drones we've got Camp all set up I'll probably start cooking here within the next 10 15 minutes so we can get uh get eaten before Sunset but before we do that I'll show you guys uh all the different vehicles that everyone here is living in start with Kyle's you start with mine fanciest toilet in the group Kyle does have a pretty fancy toilet this is Kyle's van also self-built those are lights but they're not on right now shower toilet bed kind of similar to the vibe of my van and then this is Carter and Maggie's van it's very uh contrasty to the Black version of my van but it's a little bit more inviting than my is black yeah but it's nice they got the bed they got a couch area I think your couch area is a little more useful than mine to be honest we can both sit and eat dinner yeah cuz you got the swivel chairs too right yeah yeah yeah so both of their chairs swivel which I should have done in mine but in our first V we couldn't eat dinner together because of the layout but now we can but now like sit other people can come and eat to oh that's ni Stu so we can also Carter builds vans so I'll link his stuff uh yes appreciate that if you need a if you need a van built hit him up they built this one they built a bunch of them so yeah if you need a van he's your man and then the last one is Nick it's so messy but this is uh this is his house he's got a roof which is the coolest part so he's got his desk here I mean it's pretty much the same layout in all of them he's also got a guest futon oh yes you can go up if you want go check her out but the coolest part about a bus or at least Nick's bus is he has much more room on the roof for hanging out and stuff oh God but you got a roof de too don't you oh yeah they have a roof deck I didn't know you had one yeah so they got a roof deck I don't Kyle doesn't I kind of wish I did a roof deck but I have a lot of solar on how much solar do you have 400 watts yeah I got 600 no big deal no big deal only 600 yeah that's everybody's house on Wheels is here all right I think I'm going to get started cooking because it might take a little while so what all are we doing for dinner what do you need what do you want us to make so I have steak Cooking if you guys want to do like a like a garlic potato I just have like the little gold potatoes okay so Maggie's going to cook the potatoes and I am going to try to cook five ribs at once they're decently big so hopefully we can make this work I think I should be able to fit two steaks in this pan easily I might have to cook mine separately though but that's fine so you guys already know what seasoning I'm going to use for these steaks some buttery Steak House dram does anybody have any uh olive oil a halfway thank you amigo we're going to see how well this works with cooking four steaks at a time we'll get this oil nice and ripping hot all right let's see how this goes would be homeo teer there we go we got all of them in there so they hopefully are done at the same time and I've never grilled a riye before but I think from what I've read a line cook around six minutes flip it 6 minutes and that should hopefully be about medium rare medium well I don't know got to meet them so hopefully we'll get them cooked up somewhat good all right so I already flipped this back one cuz it's cooking a little bit faster than these two and turn the heat down but um a nice looking Seer on that bad boy and everyone else is just hanging out outside having a good time Magie over there cooking the potatoes all right so these are kind of getting closed in temperature maybe another 5 minutes so for the last 5 minutes or so I'm going to get some uh get some butter in these pan P the Ferrari of butter carry gold and some garlic in each one along with some fresh Rosemary one that was like absolutely perfect but you had like in each pan and some thyme feel and I think the reason you put the butter in at the end is so it doesn't burn cuz butter will burn pretty quickly if you put it in too early which can kind of ruin the flavor I think don't quote me on that though take that and just spoon it on top this first one is just about ready to come out oh got it all over my shirt should have been wor my apron these other four steaks I think need a little bit more time though cuz uh they didn't cook quite as fast yeah these are probably going to be well done I'm not going to lie but it's whatever I'm going let those rest in their little been pee PE for like 5 minutes how are the potatoes looking potatoes looking pretty good smelling pretty good how you E A yep okay delicious yeah hopefully they steaks are done we're just waiting on potatoes and then we're eating Cave [Applause] dinner nice was going to break my bike there's a cave up there in the mountains do you see that oh yeah we got to go check that out we can go check that out in the morning that isan make sure you watch till uh tomorrow morning that's a nighttime Adventure we're going to go check a nighttime Adventure yeah I mean maybe I'd rather see it during the day I'm terrified the bus has it but it's also got a lot of Pros where did you guys go St over that Ridge yeah so if you go through this by the bathrooms to the right right behind these little like rock formations it looks like like the moon or Mars or something and it's it's like a little cave not well they filmed a bunch of movies here too it looks like like Star Wars was here A bunch of yeah a bunch of crazy movies were filmed here all right well I hope these steaks are cooked well enough but we'll see they might be cooked a little too well yeah the steak don't look that big that's not too bad all you guys ready to eat yes let's dig very nice steak family dinner rate the steak one out of 10 and terms of five at a time cooked in a van keep that in mind delicious but out of 10 a 10 is like a $100 steak I mean maybe a 6 and 1 half s I'd probably give it a six 6'2 I don't know I mean a little bit better than ground beef so Nick's used to eating just ground beef Nick is we don't know why he I'll show you I'll show you his fridge tomorrow like a monster [Music] Good Morning good morning got nice and cold last night or was nice for getting up under the covers but it's 8:00 a.m. and it's already getting hot in the back of the van but I got my Starling hooked up last night give myself some service morning good morning need seasoning next yeah Kyle's over there cooking breakfast yeah these are my uh these are my mom's pants she gave them to me are you serious I'm pretty sure they're they're they're woman's pants dude they look kind of cool though but they make me feel cool when I wear them do you guys already have breakfast Kyle I know you're cooking we need to make breakfast right now I finished breakfast like an hour ago really yeah Nick's showing off I'm going to make myself some breakfast though what's on the menu I think just eggs to start a YouTu Chanel calledo hum and after we all get uh fully woken up you check out maybe that cave in those rocks over there all you ready to go check out that cave there's like a big square hole it looks like an entrance to like a mining area but it's all blocked off with like filled in dirt I wonder what this if this area was used for anything in the [Applause] past there's the cave this place is sick oh it's it is like an old mine almost it's kind of creepy oh this is where the bads came out last time so watch your head yeah throw a rock in there here throw a rock in there I think we're good no bats I don't see any oh someone had a night in here yeah someone it end back there I don't know I need to get out of here I'm going to throw up actually it smells so bad in there oh my God I wonder what they were looking for here it might say it on some of the signs o watch your head got that on video yeah really it smells horrible in there smells like bat crap yeah but apparently a bunch of movies like Star Wars Star Trek there's like a bunch that were filmed here yeah I could definitely see that would have been a cool campsite right there over 30 film projects a year are shot among the TWA Pinnacles including car commercial sci-fi movie Star Trek final frontier Disney's dinosaur the gate three trespassers lost in place Planet of the Apes the Apes so these are these are tuas spires on a dry yeah Tua spires on a dry lake bed that's what these things are it's so weird how every Rock has its own name like you got boots you we got uh DNE John hoodo Dwayne Johnson Dwayne Johnson tuas a pretty interesting landscape out here back to Camp all right I think that is uh going to be it for this video fun day out here camping probably going to hang out
