football world I'm coming to you real quick I just wanted to let you know that I came back to knowing I be remember two P then and I jump from seven to rank one I don't know how that's crazy but we're going to keep working with it uh we're playing again dlv today with recruting we got some good battles going on I'll just SK through that real quick looks like we're in the lead for most these we're going to have a close one with this cornerback um um we're going to go through probably get rid of him try to keep a little bit more of these guys and of see what's going on in the grand schema thing um yeah honestly like I'm really looking forward to these draft classes or not draft classes these recruiting classes we may have something great going on but let's walk in we got a couple people that play on sht um and we're going to figure out what to do from there so we're just going to do a lot of the the be tackles all of our new recruits so next year we can actually go up and running with it um other than that let's continue lock in let's keep these wins let's go be great and on [Music] hand the broadcast welcome to Denton Texas home of the north Texas mean green and the fans have been since early this morning for The Clash we have in store today we have one of those games that test your focus top 25 team against an unranked opponent can you take care of business as we'll see a squad from the Mountain West the UNLV Rebels taking on the number one team in the land the north Texas mean green for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis joined here in the booth as always by David Pollock and Jesse Palmer guys let's te this one up the rebels will kick it away first on the move from inside is five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 so North Texas offense is on the field for the first time today and this wide receiver he's the Lynch pin to the offense they want to make sure they find a multitud way to get him the football and it's a risk reward scenario on defense when you're trying to cover this guy re because you play Man coverage you risk him running by you catching de balls you play too much Zone and then he can hurt you after the catch a lot of different ways this guy is very dangerous on second down just keeps firing they'll throw it to the back on the screen and that did not work defense SM for the beginning love the play by the defense they just did a good job understanding where the running back was on that play after the catch they're able to make the tackle right away and now they've set up third down grabs it in the middle and they finally fall him down but not before the good catch and run really nice job there by the quarterback understanding that it's Zone coverage on third down you're going to have to find someone working into a soft spot get the ball out of your hands quickly make an accurate throw and pick up the first well done movement here from the tight end wants to throw on first down off the play fake I don't think that's the way they drew it up incomplete after they couldn't connect it's second and 10 they'll go to the ground good pick up on the ground and they'll Mark him down at the 39 a nice job by the offense picking up the blitz understanding that extra guy was coming and creating just a little bit of a hole for that running back to Sil through and get some positive yards well they try to throw for it there on third down on the opening drive of the game don't get it but let's punt the ball away let's trust our defense and guys let's also trust this home field advantage and the crowd to get loud and make it real difficult on our opponent they are trying to set the tone on the opening drive of the game they could punt pin them back deep instead they'll go for it on fourth down he just threw it away and couldn't find a man and I guessed at least he saved a few yards of field position the rebels offense will have its first possession of the game as we take a look at our impact players for this one what are you looking for Jesse for a guy to make an impact well these are simply put the leaders of this football team and generally games go how these guys play if they make plays and they've got a shot to win this one no doubt they got to show up these are the team leaders these guys have to play well if they're going to win the foot wide receiver shows motion on move it's Thomas that play just never had a chance they knock him down for a loss of five listen I know there are a lot of DBS out there that all they want to do is get interceptions and dance in the end zone this dude likes to put his face in the fan get close to the line of scrimmage and tackle and on the opening drive if he's out there he gets a huge tackle for loss early that is a statement play [Applause] for a first down they'll move the running back to try to force the defense to adjust he's got it on the run and he cruises his way to the house Rebels and what a nice start for this offense the throw game getting working getting the touchdown pass this quarterback getting a little bit of confidence this passing game getting in a rhythm nice start for this offense about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown Z On The Run from inside of zone five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 North Texas sends the offense back onto the field we'll see if that failed fourth down in their own end last time David sort of curbed some of the aggressiveness when you hear about it all the time in football go for it be aggressive the problem is when you get stopped sometimes they put you in a hole Jesse now the offense has to come out and respond real disappointed not getting that first down you can see it on the sideline so let's just see if that's kind of galvanized them a little bit here to go make a statement and get some points he's R out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs trying to find his man on first down dumps it to the back freshman trying to take a shot but put just a little too much on it let's see which way they go after the incompletion second 10 from the 39 they want to just keep throwing it my on the Move he's got it oh look out big big gain on that one as he steps out of bounds with first down North Texas really hasn't going on offense out of the gun the running back has it like this often times are like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows and as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into longer [Applause] runs trying play action dances away fires into the end zone the receiver was doubled and they picked it off and he's brought down after the not before putting his offense in [Applause] business from the shotgun now here's an inside GI great move now he's got R and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play defense is going to have their hands full trying to stop this guy they better rally to the football and get multiple hats cuz he is not easy to bring down they're getting this guy lathered up drop behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three last play was a near disaster now dealing with second and [Applause] 13 from the gun running back on the move and just wedges it ahead a bit before he's brought down third and long from the 42 if they can get some of it it might give them a chance to go for it on fourth down dropping back it's Fernandez going up top and it goes through his hands oh he had an explosive play right there for the taking but couldn't reel it in and the rebels decide to punt it away this will be their first punt of the afternoon they're able to put a stop to that return right at the 30 yd Line North Texas takes possession the mean green offense will return to the field that last possession a prime example of how things get condensed in the Red Zone hard to throw when the windows are smaller and that's what happens down near the goal line David but for this quarterback here just take accountability and ownership and come out here lead your offense and move on like we needed points that's something that we can harp on we'll watch the tape this week but now it's time to move on let's get another drive going cross the 30 to the 35 and that's a gain of six here on third down we looking to throw setting up the screen they make the Stop and that'll bring the first quarter to a close guys that's the end of the quarter and unlb has the edge and we've come to the end of the first as we take a moment to check out the stats so far they've swapped into of the field and we're ready to go in the second they'll break the seal on this here on first [Applause] down little touch pass to the receiver One Step W twep squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground well on these little push passes timing is so important you're trying to snap it right as he's getting a full head of steam when he gets the ball he's hitting the outside and David it puts the defense in such a difficult spot oh he needs to get rid of he needs to do something and he will will go down what a terrible terrible play and a big loss on Third and long he'll need to loosen up that arm brings it in down the left side North Tex in the hurry up it's a beautiful pass and catch I love the job the quarterback does manipulating the defense with his eyes he Froze that safety and that allowed his room to work as well makes his connection they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit of the time to get to that first down and here comes the offense on second down goes to the option he'll toss it finally run out of bounds but he has this rolling with a first down looking to move it through the air over the middle it's Smith and quarterback receiver on the same page nice job seeing the Zone understanding the drag rout concept easy pitch easy catch just gets rid of it to the running back underneath there to make the stop but they use the back in the passing game and pick up the first down offense with a fresh set of downs spits it out to the back touchdown mean green and they'll put that scoreboard operator to work and put six on the board and it's no good had a chance to tie it and couldn't do it almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown he'll take the return try to get better field position and good work by the coverage team to get the Return Man Down On The Ground UNLV ready to go back to work on offense here's another opportunity Jesse to stretch out this lead after hting last time I think it goes back to your Playmakers Rees I think it's finding the guys that have been working for you earlier on in this game and getting them the football yeah and there's obviously no need to panic I mean think about it you got the lead you got the football you got to be smart with the football make your plays put a good drive together here quickly out the the tight end they stop him almost immediately short gain there still a little ground cover pick up the first split backs here the playaction fake shoots it to the left got a wide open receiver ripped off a huge chunk play on that one as he gets the first down before he steps out of bounds man this offense is so dangerous re they've got dudes all over the field that can make plays there's a big gainer in the pass game had a chunk of yards like that now the defense is really on its heels and a good solid pick up before the defense Cuts him down halfway there on first down it's second and [Applause] five oh he's looking to throw it's caught and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play now the chance to pay off that play from just outside the five moving the running back trying to get the D to tip its hand looking down field it's Fernandez he wants it all and good coverage and better Hands by the defender to knock it down in the end zone second down here and maybe they've got time to get one more snap off before the two-minute [Applause] warning and he Wales in for the score touchdown un and the offense punches it in again and we call his name again that's two touchdowns now in two games with still more to be played I tell you what I think this guy's name will be called a lot more throughout the season he's that kind of good here he comes from inside his own five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 North Texas sends the offense back onto the field man what a drive last time for the touchdown that passing attack was Lethal D and you know you hear all the stupid commentators like me and Jesse talking about create balance you know run and pass no when you throw that good spin the ball around so the defense has to find a way to affect the quarterback on this drive because last drive he had way too much time to throw makes the grab and it's enough for the first down before he's dragged to the ground moving keep moving the receivers often will run their route based on a side adjustment got him in 40 there he goes he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense a new set of downs after the [Applause] completion they'll ride the running back and leave it with it they knock him down right there quick Tempo no huddle off and second down Fox R wide receiver coming across in motion he wants to throw here on second down finds his man it's mana and that's where they'll Mark him but a chunk play and they pick up a first down [Applause] he wants to throw got it set up on the outside and they wrap him up but not before he gets enough on the catch for the first down North Texas in the hurry up wants to throw on first down flushed out of the pocket going to try to get it himself headed to the Zone and he's sprinting he'll take it all the way touchdown nor they got the touchdown but now they want the two to tie this baby up try to get the edge with a quick touch pass he gets into the end zone and the two-point conversion ties the game they got the late touchdown on the board now about to kick it away and hoping the defense can keep them from answering the returner will field it and bring it back not nearly as much as he' hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 the UNLV offense ready to return to the field now you find out just how much of a gunslinger you are will you roll the dice here late in the half David and you know the defense really conservative so I think it's an opportunity to be able to take a shot see how much of a chunk you can get before then you decide really Jesse how you want to finish the half just can't turn it over and throw a pick through the quarter here you have got to be so smart if you're going to be aggressive with your decision the give to the tail back and he'll just get back to the line of scrimmage and we have R out of time in the second quarter we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connors in our halim update guys who's had a better seat there in Denton than you have for what's been a fun first half an entertaining first half and we've got a multi- possession lead to break down thanks to the surgical Precision of this offense might honestly take more time to talk about what didn't work and what did the running game the passing game Gadget plays have worked now it's just a matter of finishing the job good job by the coverage unit to put a stop to that return guys the Running Rebels offense ready to go back to work they'll open the second half on the ground man to that daylight to pick up to the 22 talk about making it easy for an offensive coord pick up bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the [Applause] offense slam to the ground but not before he gets the first down they'll put it in play from the 27 first down wide receiver now comes in motion they're going to go right back to him on first down get him on the ground after a four yd run out to the 31 after the productive first down play it's second and six out of the shotgun they go to the ground just working and poking anding and finding his way up to the 36 here on third down will they go back to the running game they'll try to get the first through the air got it in the middle it's Thompson excellent job walking through the air there finding a hole in that defense and picking up a first down and on that third and short I don't think he was unhappy to see that zone Noe was a great job by the offense hey see where the nowhere to go the ball's loose well the offense is able to disaster right there problem is they fumbled it but thankfully they were able to jump back on and not have a turnover don't try to overcome that last play on second and 15 and this junior loves to show off that big arm nice job there good timing between the QB and the wide receiver executing that out rout the rebels moving quickly to the line the off showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the deep that one did not go well tackled in the back field for a l of six Big L on the last PL threatens to knock this drive off course it's second and 16 to the ground with the back and the defense snows him under after a very short game ninth play of the drive coming up but this one will be tough third and long he's looking downfield to throw getting some heat didn't have anything working and just had to throw it away on third down and they're running out the kicker to give it a try he says he's got a big leg he's going to have to show it from 56 y out no good and after the field goal guys we are still locked up North Texas takes possession the mean green offense will return to the field they Unleashed an aerial assault last time that took them right to the end zone David So ree with that drive I think you've accomplished something you wanted to accomplish make this defense think you put them back on their heels now shoot Palmer you might be able to runs in on this drive to really Jack him up yeah I like that idea but I also like the fact that speed kills they've got it at the receiver position so if you got one-on-one matchups man take advantage he stopped at the 49 after gaining 10 I love when slers understand situations and they understand where the first down marker is and they understand where I got to get to a lot of people you'll see run north south and try to bounce out wide and make big plays sometimes it's not about making big plays sometimes it's about getting that first down to make sure I get an extra set of downs instead of trying to make those big touchdown runs he'll come out throwing on first down got him down field and this offense is feeling it as they rip off a big chunk of yardage and they've got it on the 22 North Texas hasn't going to work with another first down he's looking to throw it moving out of the pocket just gets rid of the football nobody to throw it to it'll be second down I'm impressed with this defense man because that QB is lightning fast you see how fast that Defender was able to get to him and force the incompletion wow quarterback making adjustments with his receivers unleashes one deep and they couldn't make the connection on the long shot and listen as a quarterback you're trying to find the match up trying to find open I don't know if anybody was open but that was not a greatly thrown football I don't know if it was miscommunication but the ball thrown out of bounds and just on to the next down on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it trying to make magic on the scramble he goes out of bounds after a solid gain on the play and that's a pretty good job by this defense man it's so hard to limit these quarterbacks and they're spreading you out all over the field when they take hard to limit the damage nice job limiting the damage and I tell you what make it physical finish those plays and try to tackle that guy and make him think about running the football in the future touchdown me green and that one will put him up here in the second half they'll try to add another to their lead and with the extra point the score is now 21-4 and for a quick update let's go to Kevin Conor in the studio match up today fellas let's show you what's going down Western Michigan is in front they've been impressive today but they still have to finish the job and that is not a g they're up by just one over the astronauts we've got our eye on this one and everything else going on throughout the day guys and how about that one Kevin will be keeping an eye on everything going on elsewhere he's brought down but he went backwards after that completion not the way they had it drawn up didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 fast motion from the offense touch pass on the Jet Sweep he's pass the 30 and that sff arm is a weapon for this Runner he uses it and picks up a first down they'll put the tight end in [Applause] motion using his legs it's Thomas sweet feet on the move and a nice run there before the defense finally makes the stop good spot after that seveny pick up on first down it's second and three quarterback flips itead quickly to the receiver hard running there they'll finally get him on the ground but not before he makes it to the 30 and gets a first down and the rebels are rolling down the field [Applause] pulls and fires it complete to the right got some room headed to the goal line and he'll take it in they couldn't get him on the ground Rebels quarterback's abilities to read the field is huge and also the anticipation the time to be able to throw the football Jesse and hit a guy in stride so he can get run after the catch and get in the end zone that was a nice job by the quarterback yeah it's critical David listen a lot of times touchdown aren't thrown into the end zone you've got to read the coverage hit the open guy and let him do the rest he goes out of bounds on that return right at the 20 yd Line North Texas sends the offense back onto the field what a good mix of plays keeping that defense off balance last time David and Reese they don't know if it's run or if it's pass they got him right where they want this defense doesn't know how to react from getting punched in the mouth on that last drive so on this next Drive d I think you keep running the football because that sets up the play action it sets up the snatches it on the right and he was loose and not stopped until he gets to the 47 yd line what a ride it's been through the first three quarters of this game we are all tied up let's check out some stats back out of open the quarter with this first down play the option look now the toss at the 35 he's loose he's R out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the six for a first down we got to give a lot of credit to the offensive line there they were able to pave the way for a first down quarterback checking the play looking to pass inside the Red Zone touchdown North and with that they move out front in the this game must be moving so slowly for this quarterback he sees everything two or three beats ahead way ahead I been really really easy I better get some more hits on him I better do something to make him feel uncomfortable cuz right now it's just like oh you're running that yeah that's easy I mean's he's already read your mail you better change the address do something different unlb ready to go back to work on offense leaves it with the back oh how did you make that move they wrestle him to the ground but he's got plenty for a first down here's this offense with a frh set of downs they move the tight end all over they'll ride the hot hand not much doing there he gets it to the 26 a gain of one didn't get much on first down it's second and [Applause] nine on the ground it's Thomas they'll Mark him down at the 37 it's a 10yd gain most important part of a clutch Drive piece together some first downs get in position and here they are on First and 10 quick pass on the Fly [Applause] motion and this one will be stopped for No Gain well I love the aggressive nature of the defense on that play everybody playing with eye discipline they saw the pre-nap motion they knew who had the football and you saw guys play with excellent Instinct running down the hill and making a t they've got it to the 49 yd line and they'll move the chain the rebels come to the line with a new set of [Applause] downs out of the gun they give to the back they pick up half of it it'll be second and five I know the passing game sells the passing game is exciting but it's not exciting to get five or six yards a pop on the ground but it will be very successful running back searching for a hole and a nice solid up there the defense wrestles him to the ground I think they called that knowing they wer going to hit a home room so why would you call it that well you call it so third down becomes an easier down it's not third and long where I have to pass the football now all and that pass is intercept it and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception some defensive players just have I've played with guys throughout the course of my career but you can't coach it it's noted it's strength it's literally I know when to break on the football how to go get it and how to pull it in it's just a n solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six tosses to the quarterback he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three the D thinking bring some heat on Third and long from the 44 quarterback reacting to what the D is showing third and long and he'll try to throw for it he's got the tight end big play for this off as they get it to the 32 and man this quarterback has had a day with that pass he goes over 300 yard on the day really nice job executing putting up some yards today pretty good day for the young man nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry couldn't get him blocked on that last one now it's second and 14 he's looking to throw he lobs one high down the left side touchdown mean green What A Catch and for he has been surgal Precision passes using the SC the instrument rather the one the defense has had absolutely no answer just he's been down their throats all game long a step ahead understanding what he's seeing and this defense well here in the fourth quarter they were obviously expecting onside kick they got their hands team on the field they're able to jump on the ball and make sure they get possession first down here with time for maybe one more play until the two-minute warning he's going to pass looking to the big tight end almost intercepted it'll fall incomplete the defense almost came up with a turtle you just wonder if that last interception the last Drive is starting to affect him and what he's seeing right now he's seeing ghosts doesn't look very confident throwing the football he's lucky the defense dropped that last throw second down here and maybe they've got time to get one more snap off before the two-minute warning right on target this time that is exactly what you're looking for when you talk explosive plays the defense finally able to make the stop going up top on first down quick completion on the out he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down well this offense has a ton of work left ahead of him here in this two-minute situation late in the game but the drive off to a good start you get the first down you get out of bounds you work in the perimeter of the field that is exactly what you want to do this is CAU for the late touchdown so let's not put this one to B yet and listen still a ways to go but great job by this offense getting you back in the ball game now we got a one possession game we got our score we did what we're supposed to do now how do we get this stopped now the defense has to come up big and get me the rock back bounces through the end zone it's a touch back they'll bring it out to the 25 North Texas takes possession the mean green offense will return to the field one possession game getting late first of business just take care of the football so they call this situation 4minute offense where you're trying to run the football and throw high percentage passes to maintain possession and bed the clock this is a very difficult point of the game to execute at a high level though yeah and listen what you understand as an offense is if I get one or two first downs this ball game's over and that's your sole objective not scoring take care of the football get a few first downs walk out with the they've got it at the 37 it's first and 10 moving the running back forcing the defense to adjust and the ball is free on the pitch and the offense will maintain possession son that ball must be riveted to your rib cage good awareness by the offense you never want to see the ball on the ground but a nice job understanding to just kind of jump on it make sure you keep possession just when they're looking run now up top complete to the right he's Off to the Races the touchdown North Texas and once he got away from the KNE they had no shot at catching it and you know late in the games offenses sometimes get conservative when they got the lead and they got the ball I love this offense they were aggressive they got another score added to the lead now you're trying to Salt this game away lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive looks as if the returner will try and field this one and they'll get him on the ground as the offense comes out to start the next drive all right guys so here's the offense back on the field again flying gets set first down they'll crank up this drive with the pass Fir and picked off takes it the other way and they'll drag him down return on the interception that should be the nail of the cin what a great break on the football getting the big turnover you got the lead now just go out there be smart on offense and run that clock he's all the way down to the two Y Line just spectacular execution there North Texas in the hurry up movement here from the tight end off play action starting to feel a little pressure and you race it to the house touchdown M and with that touchdown man you're getting excited as a fan base you're about to go to three and0 like a lot of things could go long the start of season everything gone right that's a great sign for this squad they got it rolling can they keep that momentum keep climbing up the rankings and who knows what happens at the end of the year after scoring that touchdown they'll try to get it right back with an onside kick not much drives more anxiety than waiting to see if the hands team can coral the onside kick and they do the UNLV offense ready to return to the field this offense has pretty much been stuck in the mud the entire game it's been a frustrating performance Jesse Yeah listen you can't and that pressure just engulfed him a sack for this defense timeout called by the defense is their first of the half as they'll go to the sideline and try to make adjustments got it in the middle it's house he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first [Music] down trying to move the sticks on third down through the air and this is dropped inom complet pass he had a huge gain in his fingers and he couldn't hold on this defense has put a game together like it is hard to put all the fastet of Defense together run defense pass defense they've been so good man dialed in you could tell they were ready they were fast they were physical they dominated this football game turns out to be an easy conversion for this offense as they move the chains on fourth down trying to get everybody set with the clock still running he spikes it clock stops as they try to rally late line getting set on second down to the air it's Fernandez they're trying to get to him that pass is incomplete and they're probably fortunate that it wasn't knock free for a fumble third and long coming from the 27 yd line you can make a field goal from here just don't take a negative play how about getting the foot down on that throw for the big completion and the rebels have it in scoring position on first and goal was the pass just had to get rid of that one good job to fight another play and this is just one of those days man where everything has gone wrong right like they just haven't been in a rhythm they haven't they haven't got it going and never built a momentum this is this is one of those days that you learn from you try to grow from a lot of things that we're going to show in the film room that people aren't going to and they got him didn't have much of a chance on that one and a fitting way to put a Capper on this game when we get to the off seon and they start having coaching clinics they're going to roll this game tape back to show both offens dial it up and let it run mean that's essentially what we saw in this game it didn't matter what either offensive coordinator was calling everything seemed to work through throwing the football in the immediate passing game the rpos The Run game David this was just clinical offensive football and offenses that evolved so much they can do so many different things and they know how to use their Playmakers get speed and space make those big plays so that's why offenses are head of defenses in this game it was no different that's going to do it for us for Jessie for
