[Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] folks welcome to Orlando Florida where the world's vacation capitals is fired up and here on the campus of UCF this crowd is ready to go to work in support of the knights this is not just any other matchup both teams come in ranked in the top 10 colliding early in the season each trying to set the tone with a big statement as we'll see a team that made use of a by week the North Carolina Tarheels taking on the sixth ranked team of the land the UCF Knights for EA Sports college football I'm Chris F joined here in the booth by Kirk Herm Street Kirk let's get to the action on the field [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] the knights will kick this away to start us [Applause] off that one bounces through the end zone so it'll start at the 25 [Applause] [Applause] listen to the crowd energy here in the early going this is a tough tough environment for visitors and there's the handoff and this running play stuck by an inspired defense tonight they're just trying to establish the Run there's not much there but give credit to that defensive line and those linebackers attacking the line of scrimmage to negate any chance at all [Applause] second down after that previous Play here's the snap offense looking to throw the ball oh that one's picked off they get him down after a short return F interception gets the football back to the offense at the 36 well here it is opening drive in the game we're just trying to find that Rhythm run the ball couple passes and this one backfires Poe decision by the quarterback that's 100% on him and this defense now gives their own offense great field position here to get points on the board first down here for this [Applause] offense they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one well the quarterback does everything right except pitch the football the defensive end's going to take him which is great that's what you want but you got to get that ball out quicker to not allow that defensive end to make that play second down play coming up for this offense they'll change the pre- snap look now to throw it's brown that one Falls incomplete looking for a flag doesn't get it brings up third down not going to be easy here backed up a long way to go for a first [Applause] down on third down he drops to throw lets it Go quickly catch is made down the middle game MO the ball to the 21 and a fresh set of downs it's really good timing here between the quarterback and the receiver and how about the receiver downfield does a nice job of finding that open space in the zone of the defense and as a defense you're just basically throwing your hands up in the air because they had that covered relatively got a lane can he get in and he gets to the end zone touchdown nice landing up to try the extra point and the pat makes it s nothing open [Music] scoring kickoff team is on the field to boot this one [Music] away fielded In The End Zone it's Patterson he's brought out at the 16 would have been better off leaving it in the end zone for a Touchback [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] and here comes the North Carolina offense back out onto the field we'll see if this quarterback can shake off the interception he threw in the last possession we start the drive with a quick throw to the left side defense surrounds him just a short gain on that completion Chris it's so easy to get excited about the receivers on the outside and their ability to make big plays but the slop receivers are just as exciting especially with their finesse quickness and ability to make guys miss in the middle of that field here's the option [Applause] play oh and he fumbles Chris at the risk of stating the obvious in these conditions the ball carriers have got to do a better job of securing the football because if that ball gets away from you chances are it's going to get on the ground in a turnover offense back out there trying to get something [Music] going quarterback's got it on the option it's a one yd gain second and nine coming up see that's how you limit what an offense wants to do this time the defense just W the battle up front at the line of scrimmage not get it up any big plays everybody's Gap sound it's really solid defense on that play quarterback adjusting now to the defense looking to pass here on second down grab behind the line it's Pitman to get a bound quickly not much of a gain on that completion and there's the tight end who shows off his hands now it's third and short in the 21 defense trying to make a stand here and prevent a touchdown dropping back you're going to throw for the first down with the catch it's Pitman bu carrier heads out of bounds but the pickup was good enough to move the chains first down well this is called settling down in his own defense just kind of finding that soft spot so not only does this tight end show that he's got great athletic ability and great size here he shows that he understands coverage by sitting down in that hole giving the quarterback a nice Target able to pick up that first down defense gets him down but they'll take the gain on that play I'll take that every single time offensive line does a nice job up front this backs vision and ability to get positive yards by lowering his pads on full display right there here comes a crucial second down play every yard tough to find down here in the Red [Applause] Zone they try to run it with the [Applause] option they finally Corral him at the one these quarterbacks today in the college game are so athletic they can beat you with their arm obviously but just when you think you have them figured out they tuck the ball and go I'd expect this defense to put in a spy to keep this quarterback from running tackled behind the line it's a loss of two well if somebody talks about a play being blown up this is a great example of that that's exhibit a for how to be physical on defense second down and goal upcoming they're going to run the option pitches to the back deep Powers into the end zone touchdown UCF but they try to add to the lead now with the p8 he manages the footing and the extra point is up and [Music] [Applause] good kickoff team has come on the field now that send this one [Applause] away and that one will bounce out of the back to the end zone so a Touchback will start at the [Applause] 25 and the tar Hills offense is back out on the field last possession they bubbled it away and it set up a touchdown drive and they bounce back from that right away opening play of the drive quick throw to the left oh and he breaks free it's a foot race inside the 20 t touchdown Tar Heels no chance to catch him that's a crucial score for the offense chip in away Kirk just trying to stay in this game here it's too early to see if this touchdown is going to change the momentum and allow them to cut down into the lead even further but if you're this head coach you tell your team let just keep chipping away make the extra point cut the lead to 14-7 getting set to kick the ball off now return starts from inside the five he's tackled at the 21 that's where the drive start [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay so the UCF offense is back out on the field they had a brilliant touchdown Drive last time mixing the run and the pass can they keep that going again here's a screen pass to the running back and he heads out of bounds after gaining a few yards well this is great execution here on this screen play to the running back to pick up big yards in the first down I think in the process Chris they send a message to the defense you can Rush our quarterback all you want but when you do you better be careful cuz we're going to throw the screen on you big guys up front lined up it's first down from the shotgun here's an inside give he's found some room with the 45 has first down yardage at the 46 here we [Applause] go that's the end of the first quar UCF 14 North Carolina backs Lin up on either side of the quarterback looking to pass it's brown close to the tight end makes the catch downfield they get him down but not before he gets to the plus 38 yeah you know this defense has got to be frustrated after giving a multiple conversions now on first downs there's another one but for the offense and they're just playing very efficiently right [Applause] now they'll run the option The Backs got it on the pitch defense makes the stop after a 5yd game so second and five this a good solid game five or six yards love to see that from the running game the game makes it second and medium now the play fake he'll look to throw it a short completion of the tight end tackle made after a big game this offense has become a first down machine and that's so demoralizing for a defense especially for those star players who don't sub out as much but a fourth quarter really starts to wear you [Applause] out from the gun he looks for an open man in the completion made touchdown nice still no answer for this offense [Applause] [Music] to try to add the lead now with the pat pat is good they're pulling ahead now 21-7 [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] now they get set to kick it [Applause] away he thought about returning it but instead takes a knee it'll be a Touchback and we'll start at the 25 and the North Carolina offense is back out there on the field this off scores the defense with a lightning strike a oneplay touchdown in the last possession let's see if they can duplicate that magic here they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one they don't block the defensive end who shows some quickness Kirk getting around the edge that time yeah this guy's usually getting around the edge to put pressure on the quarterback but he reminds everybody here that this guy's a complete package not only can he pressure the quarterback but also he is very very talented and shows you the physicality he has against the run as well caught behind the line it's Johnson breaks loose at the 40 they bring him down but a big chunk of yardage on the play well this is what you see all over college football and even up obviously in the NFL these tight ends they're really recruited as big receivers and they can get one-on-one matchups and they've got speed after the catch this is a short throw you can see what he does after the catch and he is a tough matchup for whether it's a safety a nickel or a linebacker he's brought down but the game moves the ball to the 39 now the receiver does all the work here man that is easy living for this quarterback really good footwork by the receiver gets the separation and at that point it's just pitch and catch for the quarterback they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one oh that's a play you dream about as a Defender he gets penetration and times that hit up perfectly in the back field important second down play coming up easy there's the snap he's looking to throw cannot Escape in down he goes Chris that is textbook by this defense in man-to-man coverage nowhere to go for this quarterback he's looking around everywhere to find an open Man by the time he figures it out it's a sack for the defense so losses in a row it's been a tough slot third and very long and the quarterback look going to make a play through the air receiver looks it in it's complete defense able to stop it it's fourth down now great job here by the defense third down and long you drop back in coverage keep everything in front of you force that quarterback to have to check the ball down then you rally to the football to force his cour down great job here by the Deep needs a completion here on fourth down here's a shot toward the end zone can't connect from the long throw incomplete a fourth down stop just what a great job here by this defense on this fourth down play they knew exactly where to come up with that stop to get the turnover on downs and they did first down here the offense has time for one more play before the two-minute warning that's reeled in it's p an explosive play Big Game spotted down near the 37 first down and [Applause] 10 quarterback making adjustments now to what the defense is showing quarterback keeps the football fighting off the defender they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one brings up second down offense getting set it's second down motion by the back will make the defense adjust they'll try the option play here he's got the first down and more and he takes it all the way to the end zone touchdown UCF Chris I kind of like this defense I I knew this quarterback could run the football I didn't know he could take it that far down the field and let a bon score extra point is good they stretch the lead a little bit [Applause] more kickoff team on the field getting set now bringing it out it's Hamilton tackle at the 13 not great field position to start the drive and here comes the North Carolina offense back out onto the field this has been a rough first half they'll have to regroup it intermission but in the meantime let's see if they can get some momentum going first play of the drive they're going to throw the football they pressure it and get him the Lost back to the seven yd line nothing is more gratifying for a defense to be able to sit back and play zone and still get pressure on the quarterback with your defensive front got it to this offense faces a second and 15 the o line needs to regroup y BL quarterback drops back we're going to test the secondary deep ball is caught for a huge gain here breaks clear over the middle can they catch him they could not stop him he's in touchdown North Carolina North Carolina my oh my now that's a play that makes your jaw touch the floor the pass and catch to take it the distance on one play is definitely an offensive coordinator's dream kicking team out for the P triy the extra point is good still a two touchdown deficit 2814 so the offense getting some momentum before halftime of the touchdown now they kick off and hopes the defense can get a quick stop and that one will bounce out of the back of the end zone the offense will start at the 25 [Applause] [Music] and here comes the UCF offense back out on the field let's see how the offense plays it here not much time remaining if they want to get a chunk play put him in scoring position before the half off the play fake on first down quick throw catch made on the out route and he'll make his way out of bounds after gaining decent yardage man where's the scou report for this defense you knew coming into this game this tight end was capable that's his fifth catch in this first half one up the middle but get nothing that's exactly how you want to defend the option you know an old school way is assignment football you have to an account for the quarterback the pitch man here the quarterback had really nothing other than just kind of lower his head and get as much as he could fortunately for the defense it wasn't very much they bring him down but not before he gains first down yardage the offense will take their first time out of the half to talk strategy here what a nice find there by the quarterback on third down one of the most telling stats for me at the end of the game is how you do on third down being a good third down team is invaluable to your team's offensive success that's why you drill it so much in practice grab down the middle it's Montgomery Krist more we watch these spread offenses attack in today's game it's not just about the vertical shots with the taller receivers on on the outside defenses are challenged even more by those smaller slot receivers in their quickness in space he's got it for a big gain timeout is called to CLP strategy time for just one or two plays here before halftime so the offense takes the field in the final seconds of the half chance for just a couple more plays looking to throw it on first down heavy pressure he lets it go just throws it away but takes a big hit in the process so on second down they try out the field goal unit trying to get three before halftime he missed it off the miss the lead is still 14 a two possession game Met's going to wrap up the first half here let's kick it now to Kevin Conor with our halftime [Applause] update and the Tar Heels will Ki this away to start the second half and here's the return from inside the five and he stopped at the 20 tried to make something happen but that's good coverage [Music] [Applause] there [Applause] [Music] first and the UCF offense back out on the field now [Applause] it's an option look the gain is four so it's second and six at the 24 yd BR up receivers now getting some new assignments before the snap off the play Fade looking to throw the football grab behind the line it's Montgomery he'll head out of bounds but not before picking up enough they beat the blitz there with a pressure bearing down cre he just dumped it off to the back yeah nice job of just keeping his eyes down field cuz you're right that pressure got to him in hurry thankfully the running back was right in his line of sight is's able to dump it to him as a safety valve and he picked up the first and the back gets the football breaks loose at the 45 breaks into the clear it's a Sprint touchdown nice this offense really clicking this all week I wondered if this back might get loose and come up with a big play like this the defense had their back turned couldn't really see where he was but time they realized it he just had too much speed and he's able to take it to the end zone extra point makes it 35 [Music] 14 now the kickoff team is out on the [Music] [Applause] field fielded In The End Zone it's Hamilton tackled at the 14 not very good field position to start here over first and 10 and the tar Hills offense is back out on the [Music] field they're going to run it only a small game now looking at second and nine you know in an era that we live in right now everybody wants to spread the field around try to create space try to create one-on-one matchups and the defense is countered over the years by trying to play out wide but here's a great example the defense has the ability to play wide but still be solid at the line of scrimmage and not give up big run plays and he's got it again he but he gets out across the 25 yd line look I realize on any play call when it's properly executed it can go to the house for a touchdown but the runs that really make a game plan work are the ones where you get just what you need and he barely got the first down but he got it throw to the running back in the flat breaks the tackle now he's got room to run and he's shoved out of bounds with the defense short of the first down marker the running back that time just kind of sneaks out of the back field and shows his hands on that nice [Applause] catch second down after that completion 35 going to run it it's Joseph the S are able to bring him down quickly down third down this offense could really use a conversion here down multiple scores quarterback looking to connect with the receiver here the pass is intercepted look out he's got some space now the 40 at the 30 now at the 10 now touchdown UCF wow what a play a defensive score and a pick six a monster play by this defense here that Defender showed a lot of athletic ability there with the ball in his hands I wouldn't be surprised if the head coach watching that thought about maybe giving him some reps as a returner after that touchdown here's a kickoff team let's see if they give the return or an opportunity to bring this back kick bounces out of the back of the end zone for a [Applause] Touchback first down play call how aggressive will it be [Applause] off the play fake looking to throw launching it downfield his picked for a third time tonight they get him down after a short turn but the interception gets the football back to the offense at the 36 boy with this quarterback love to have this one back they're trying to work themselves back into this game here in the second half and the defense comes up with a big turnover that could be the nail in the coffin not much on that play brought down short hey it's a great job of this defense containing the running game but if I'm calling the plays I'm not abandoning the running game just yet I think it's important to have some sense of balance so throwing and running is essential stick with him and they'll bring him down after just a short pickup not exactly the outcome this offense was hoping for here on the option I'll give them credit they didn't lose anything so it wasn't a negative play but this kind of play's got to be able to hit big and get down the sidelines for big yards and they'll stop him just short of the marker good effort but the defense holds now it's fourth down well anytime you use your quarterback as a runner the goal is obviously to hit some big plays you got to be careful letting your quarterback take too many big hits not only can he get tired you can also start to Fumble the football kick is good gives the offense three points to show for that drive and they add to their lead so after building this big lead they're set to kick it [Applause] off bringing it out it's Patterson he's tackled at the 17 so it' been better to leave it in the end zone for a Touchback timeout called by the defense their first of the half as they try to make some adjustments here first down play call coming up how aggressive will it be look come out throwing here to start the drive and he just throws it away there safe move had nobody open incomplete second down coming up and the ball is handed off out of the shotgun finds re at the 30 takes it out to the 44 that's good for a first down down outstanding blocking on the left side of that offensive line that's really what opened up this play they did their job and you can see the results you burst open and get a big gain on the ground if I were them I'd keep going to that side and see how much more success they can have it's complete what a grab near the sideline and he'll go down after a solid game more than enough for a first down Chris how about the offensive balance these last couple plays we're seeing from these guys not only are they balanced but the explosiveness a big run followed up by a big play through the air and puts a lot of pressure on this defense the pocket breaking down gets some space around the 30 quarterback gets down to avoid the [Applause] tackle got it fresh set of downs for the offense first downb and the quarterback dropping back it's an out route catch made B carrier brought down what is the final play of this third quarter that's the end of the third quarter of play UCM 45 North Carolina 14 so here we go first play of the quarter the offense has a first down come onri quarterback drops back trying to extend the play and the sophomore making an impact play he's going to lose yardage here the defense pursues and forces him out of bounds CH I'm really surprised by the way this game has turned out that's another sack by this defense they've done such a great job of preparing a plan to get ready for one of the top quarterbacks in the country they've kept him out of syn Applied pressure and a big part of the reason they're enjoying this lead right now so here we go third down in the Red Zone the kind of play that decides football games drops back looking to throw for it on third down receiver makes the grab the defense will wrap him up after a seven yd gain it'll bring up fourth down a field goal here does them no good so the offense stays on the field they'll go for it trying for a fourth down completion and it falls incomplete a turnover on Downs big play for this defense what a great job by this defense really all game long it's very fitting here we are now in the fourth quarter on fourth down play they step up yet again now you give the ball to your own offense you work that clock and you seal your Victory INE offense lines up for a second down play off the incompletion here's the option play Pitch play to the back it's going to be a loss on the play Force out of bounds great play by the defense Bo these obvious running situations are very tough when you're working with the lead late in the game because you know the defense is going to stack the line of scrimmage make it as difficult as possible for you to run the football so nice job there by the defense they're trying to punch that ball out do anything they can at all to get the ball back can't hold on good defensive play brings up a fourth down hey I understand the aggressive approach here on third down and long trying to pick up the first down but look at the scoreb you've got the lead in the fourth quarter smart play would have been to keep running the football worked the clock forced them to use their timeouts now at fourth down and long with the lead tough decision here I think you got to punt it away the Return Man flashing his elusive speed they finally get him but it's a big [Music] game the North Carolina offense is back out there on the field the last possession they were stopped on a fourth down try can they get something going here first play of the drive they come out throwing quarterback finds a Target on the the right it's complete he's brought down after a short gain that's not going to be first down yardage defenses all around the country got to do a better job of keeping an eye on these little guys from the slot they can dismantle a defense with their speed and quickness in the open space quick throw that's an RPO caught on the left side touchdown UNC still no answer for this offensive machine number love this never say die attitude from this quarterback he's still slinging it out there this game's Out Of Reach but this guy's still putting the ball in the air and this one's a touchdown automatic on the patore here's the kickoff team Now set to boot this one away car 21 that one bounces through the end zone so they'll start at the 25 okay so the UCF offense is back out on the field they were up double digits at half time and they're just continuing to roll building in the lead here in the second half Breaking Free at the 35 has the first still on the move they bring him down but a simple quarterback keeper a solid game and a fresh set of downs man when the quarterback's executing like this I don't know if there's a defense you can call to stop it you take away the dive quarterback keeps it he makes a good read gets out to the outside and has the speed to pick up big yards stop right there at the line No Game No game on the Play BR up second down now it's second down here single single here we go ready quarterback still with the football oh they test the middle of the defense but get nothing boy the options dried up quickly for the quarterback here very very fortunate he was somehow able to get back to the line of scrimmage they come to the line a long way to go for the first down but needing this crucial conversion right now offense appear to be confused about the snap count there it'll cost him five and the head coach will decide to accept the penalty and take the yardage third down here time for perhaps one more play before the two-minute War go and looks like the quarterback's going to run it he stopped short of the marker so it's fourth down now and that's the two-minute warning this offense looking to run out the clock and secure an impressive win here today so a field goal attempt coming up now and he's made it from 50 yd out showing off the deep range boy this guy has such a strong leg no problem up into the net from 50 plus so after adding to this big lead they are set to kick it away doesn't bring the kick out Touchback they start at the 25 and here comes the North Carolina offense back out out of the field they need a couple Miracles here in the final two minutes to rescue what's been a very very rough outing so far first down looking to throw the football he brought some time now lets it Go and it's incomplete comes up a little short on that throw how about the defense today they have played so well I think the defensive coordinator put together a great plan his kids clearly understood their scheme because they have been aggressive and attacking all game long throwing again on second and 10 looking for his back this pass is caught tackle made to the 41 that's a nice game getting closer to Midfield well it's so easy to get caught up under the receivers and the quarterback and your eyes get lost you forget about the running back nice catch and a first down for this offense fresh set of downs for the offense after that first down completion here's the snap looking to throw here launching it and he's inter intercepted for the fourth time tonight the pass on first down intercepted by and the [Music] first this line getting set up it's a first down play and the offense just takes a knee here what's the play call here on second down for this [Applause] offense and they'll take a knee with less than a minute to [Applause] play so this one is tucked away time for victory formation and it's a kneel down [Applause] well frankly kir we hope for games that a little bit more suspenseful this one got out of hand early ended up being a route that's putting it nicely Chris right this was a complete blowout a solid performance in all areas by this team they're
