welcome to LSU's Tiger Stadium after dark an environment unlike any other in sports very intimidating for visitors as they say this is where visitors dreams come to die and a rivalry like this is what makes college football great yeah the tradition and the history but right here right now there's great intensity this is why these guys came to these schools to play in games like this we'll see a team that they of a by leag of the Alabama Crimson TI taking on the seventh ranked team in the land the LSU Tigers EA Sports college football and Chris Fowler joined here in the booth by Kirk her street Kirk let's get to the action on the [Applause] field now they get set to kick it [Applause] away fielded In The End Zone it's Adams solid coverage there they get it at the 15 that's where the offense will take [Applause] [Applause] [Music] over just underway and this home out is fired up and ready to make a difference today he's escaping the pocket now and he's looking to make a big play downfield that'll be enough for a first down brought down at the 43 a nice throw and a great catch by another Alabama wide receivers that's really where we are anymore with Alabama you just come to expect great receivers like this you think back in recent years to Amari Cooper and Jerry Judy jayen wad Devonte Smith list goes on and on boy they've got some great looking receivers on this squat game moves the ball to the 43 first down coming up to throw it's milro lets it Go quickly catches made down the middle it's a big gain across Midfield down inside the 35 boy just like that we've got a big Play Already Here by this offense not afraid to take some shots down field they hit it they got great field position now this line getting set up it's a first down play they'll give it to the back tackled behind the line it's a loss of two Alabama comes up to the line [Applause] quickly they'll run it here running back has the ball goes backwards losing three yards there that was that excellent linebacker with a clear path just run and downhill quickly you know I think one of the great things about watching this guy play year is his vision he just has great instincts that time the defensive line ate up all the linemen freed up the linebacker to get into the back field and the result is a tackle for a loss for the backer running back grabs it on the screen great cut they whiff on him and a big game before he goes out of bounds the offense keeps churning gets a fresh set of downs man I don't think the defense had any clue that the screen was being called they're getting up field getting pressure on the quarterback and that ball gets dumped there's no one left to be able to slow him down from getting a big game we try to run it with the option he'll toss it to the back he stopped after gaining four yd so second and [Applause] six on the and the crowd coming to lifei here trying to help this defense down in the Red Zone quack looking to throw it on second down he's moving out of the pocket now it's incomplete he took a hit as he threw the football and it brings up a third down this quarterback's trying to do everything he can to give this play a chance he gets out of the pressure off to his right but man did he take a hit and wasn't able to complete this pass uping back it's mil row quarterback heading right trying to create on the move it's intercepted the defense sniff out the screen pass he'll be taken down but after a good return well here it is opening drive of the game just trying to find that Rhythm run the ball couple passes and this one backfires poor decision by the quarterback that's 100% on him and this defense now gives their own offense great field position here to get points on the board [Applause] big guys up front lined up it's first down offense moving receivers around now before the snap Quick Pass here comes a Jet Sweep that run takes it across the 30 yd line and that Jet Sweep action puts so much pressure on a defense you get so locked in on the ball attacking you downhill when offenses sprinkle this kind of offense in and stretches this defense out wide and can create some vertical scams for big plays hand off here from the shotgun that's a nice wrap up there by the junior the game goes back to 1895 C but as you know it's begun to pick up intensity in this rivalry because they are always in each other's way in the SEC yeah this rivalry doesn't necessarily have the history even though it does go back to 1895 but you're right things seem to change when the SEC split East and West it became a battle about who would represent the West the winner typically between Alabama and LSU it seems like every year from that point on it's a game we all point to before the season even starts on First and 10 they'll look to throw it bringing pressure he's hit right as he throws it incomplete man you got to love this if you're defensive coordinator it's all about affecting the quarterback and pressure on him this time they got to him and forced that incompletion now it's second down here it's a run running back's got it just a four yd gain so it sets up third and six offense MO to a bunch formation quarterback checks the defensive look makes some adjustments back to pass it's NM there's a shot toward the end zone oh and it's dropped right off his hands a chance for a big play but little early nerves on the part of that receiver hey the good news is here Chris they're still in field goal range and it didn't cost themselves any points but they could have more you got to be thinking about going for this on Fourth and short short looks like the coach decides to go for three points here here comes the field goal team and he's got it from 47 yd away showing off the deep range snap the hold the kick everything there perfect to put three points up here for the offense bringing it out it's Adams look at him run through those tacklers and they've got the returner Cor Alabama's offense coming back onto the field at tosy Red Zone interception the last time out let's see if they can recover from that eror grab behind the line it's steams the first down by the back Mar out of at the 14 yd second down and wow listen to this crowd noise this stadium is vibrating that's why this is such a tough place for visitors to play quick throw to the left side and he finds a wideopen receiver they forgot about him downfield they finally get him down but the offense with a big spark to wrap up the first quarter of play that's the end of the quarter with the score LSU Alabama Z back at it to start the quarter offense getting set to win a first down play moving the receiver around pre snap they flip it to him on the Jet Sweep they'll actually lose yardage after the catch the defense all over him that time this is a great job of being prepared by this defense almost anticipating this play they're in position to bring him down for a loss off the play fake looking to throw the football the pass is intercepted not much on return there but a great interception the offense the football at the 42 really nice job of mixing up the looks here by this defense sometimes man sometimes Zone they threw the quarterback here completely and he throws the pit okay so here comes the LSU offense back on the field looking to build on this lead in this possession had to settle for three last time out looking to throw it's NM the pocket breaking down H as he releases it and the pass ball is incomplete well it's pretty simple the defensive line does a great job of getting after the quarterback and forcing him into that incompletion [Applause] they'll run it here the pick up this four sets up a third and six [Applause] now okay ready in back we going to throw for the first down running back has it on the screen now they make the stop just short of the marker it's going to be fourth down and inches to go well a quick short throw here not able to convert for the first down you'd love to see that route maybe a little bit deeper to give yourself a better chance but they come up a little bit short so now it's decision making time for the coach I'd be shocked if they didn't go for it the offense stays on the field of course it's fourth down and inches blue easy they go with the ground game here running back takes the hand off he's not going to get there the defense Rises up and makes a huge fourth down stop how about the offense being aggressive they decide to go for it here and I got to give all the credit to this defense being aware anticipating the call knowing exactly where where they needed to make the Stop and they did it so here comes the Alabama offense back on of the field they had it going on the last drive but it ended abruptly with the interception let's see what they can do here defense shs up out of bounds not much of a game there this exactly what you want to see as a play caller you get positive yards to be able to kind of keep you on schedule as a play caller that's all you can ask for good job up front and a nice run pre snap motion from the offense to the air it's Row from the pcket delivers over the middle good execution gets a block and gets the first down well this is called settling down in his own defense just kind of finding that soft spot so not only does this tight end show that he's got great athletic ability in great size here he shows you he understands coverage by sitting down in that hole giving the quarterback a nice Target able to pick up that first down he's moving out of the pocket lets it go on the Move launching deep deep shot caught inside the 15 he takes it in for the score touchdown Alabama Chris the timing between the quarterback and the receiver here is exceptional great route here to sell that post to the inside and then break it off to the corner and a quarterback anticipates it well puts it on the money for that touchdown extra point makes the lead four kickoff teams on the field see if they give the returner chance to bring this one back and the matre man decides to Signal fair [Applause] [Music] [Applause] catch that Bayou Bengals offense is back out on the field remember last time we went for on a fourth down and got stopped and the opponent went right down the field field see if they can recover from that here football comes out the bouncers past the sideline out of bounds and they avoid the turnover there oh my gosh Chris you can almost feel a collective sigh of relief coming from the offensive sideline as that ball rolled out of bounds the offense catches a break one more Awkward bounce that ball maybe stays in bounds and the defense has a recovery heads out of bounds after a solid gain more than enough to pick up a first down Chris I know we think about LSU you go back to 2019 Joe bur Jamar Chase Justin Jefferson a dynamic offense but at the end of the day it's still LSU it's still the SEC and ground and pound is something they will never oh that one's picked off can he take it all the way at the 30 now pass the 10 finally steps out of bounds after a long return what a play by the defense wow what a play by this defense to come up with the interception and a big return they almost take it to the house but you got to give the quarterback some credit yeah he threw a pick but he didn't give up on the play and hang his head instead he makes the tackle to prevent the defense from scoring quarterback keeps the football and he runs it in for the score touchdown Crimson tie we had a short field the offense did exactly what they're supposed to do that would have been a big ask for the defense there C absolutely but when you're given that kind of field position anything less than a tou down would be a disappointment they did exactly what they needed to do by capitalizing on that short Field Turner decides to fair catch [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] this and here comes that LSU offense back onto the field we'll see if this quarterback can shake off the interception he threw in the last possession dropping back it's nus receiver makes the catch it's an easy completion for the quarterback finding his receiver just dragging underneath cover that's the two-minute warning let's see if this offense can do something before the break to cut into this big [Applause] lead second down after that completion handoff from the shotgun makes a nice move there has first down yardage at the 46 well the defense better start adjusting and realiz and the RPO is coming at them feels like they're just sitting back worried about the potential big play through the air meanwhile this offense is running the ball right down their throat short connection to the tight end here well that's pretty good coverage here by this defense not much of a window to throw this ball into but the quarterbacks accuracy and the size of the tied end picks up a nice game receivers now getting some new assignments before the snap second down they're going to throw it caught on the outside it's Taylor and he'll run out of bounds if picking up a few yards on the play and there's the tight end who shows off his hands that short completion sets up a third down play can they pick up the first on the ground looks like LSU has the first down look I realize on any play call when it's properly executed it can go to the house for a touchd but the runs that really make a game plan work are the ones where you get just what you need and he barely got the first down but he got it a pop pass on the Jet Sweep brought down for a loss after the completion not what they were looking for that's one of those plays that works better against certain defensive looks but not every defense is the same they were all over that one let's see if they continue to attack to the outside on the perimeter to set something up down field here's the second down [Applause] play dropping back it's nus fires it to the wide out intercepted picked off by the defense big takeaway now looking for a big return across Midfield he steps out of bounds after the great pick solid return to set up his offense boy this quarterback's got to regroup that's his second interception in this game right now he's got to do a better job but Chris it's easy to sit up here and say that could be the receiver running the wrong route ball sometimes can get tipped all we know is at the end of the day the guy pulling the trigger is responsible as the first down is still going tackle made after a solid run by the Junior the offense will take their first time out of the half they talk strategy here outstanding play call here to come up with that big gain and get a first down get the ball out wide you know sometimes you just want to get the ball to your Playmakers and trust that they can create some extra yards and bring him down but the back able to pick up some decent yardage in that screen clock stops time out taken by the offense Alabama what's the play call here on second down for this off defense it's a quarterback keeper physical run breaking tackles the offense will quickly spend a timeout here after the play Alabama getting set with a first and 10 coming up no run it handed off to the running back they tackle him behind the line a loss of four the offense comes back out there not much time left perhaps just time for a couple plays before the half big pass here comes a Jet Sweep and the defense tackles him in what should be the final play of this first half m is going to wrap up the first half here let's kick it now to Kevin Conor with our halftime update [Applause] Alabama will kick it off to start the second half he'll call for the fair catch [Applause] [Music] here okay so here comes the LSU offense back on the field no surprised they're in a hole here they've given the football away in each of the last two possessions looking to pass here throws a rocket toward the right side the pass is Dro incomplete would have had a huge gain took his eye off the ball well they come out firing here to start this second half they didn't make this completion but I think it sends a clear message to this defense that the adjustments that this offense is going to make is that they're going to be aggressive and they're going to look for their one-on-one opportunities tries the right with a quick throw and it's complete downfield they tackle him at the 48 but it's enough for a new first down a new set of downs after that completion play action here on first down caught behind the line it's Taylor that's a big game before he goes out of bounds it'll move the sticks more than enough for a first down was a great completion here quarterback puts this ball on the money and and when you talk about LSU and to talk about the history it's easy to bring up drill burrow in 2019 but Chris you've been following this as long as I have you know that when LSU is really dangerous they get consistent play from the quarterback doesn't have to be burrow but just a guy that can be efficient be a good leader and complement the running game and right now you're starting to see that from this team good completion now can you do it consistently because if you can with the athletes they have around that position they become a real threat takes a big shot there from the defense but moves the sticks first down you know a lot of people feel running backs with Elite Speed shy away from contact but that wasn't the case there instead of running around the defender this back elected to run right through him looking to throw it on first down defense is coming after him just throws it away but takes a big hit in the process now second down [Applause] so after the incompletion it's second down scanning the field it's nus me there's a screen pass to the running back they bring him down after a short gain there and the defense is getting pressure on the quarterback they got a little bit fooled here by the screen play nice positive for the offense offense looking to keep this drive going into the Red Zone it's third down and short quarterback drops back from the shotgun looking for a receiver he's got it near the end zone and he will score touchdown [Applause] Tigers mining have to try the extra point exra point is good they draw within four 1410 here's the kickoff team Now set to boot this one [Applause] away fielded In The End Zone it's the returner loses the football deep in their own territory guy who coughs it UPS it and prents the turnover oh boy the kick return catches a break his teammate was able to recognize the ball in the ground and immediately made a heads up play to get on top of Here Comes the Alabama offense onto the field first play of the drive they'll come out throwing trying to extend the play Nothing open downfield so he'll just throw it away man I like this play I not only is it the right play throwing it away like that but given that he had no other option he just did what he's supposed to do to survive and get ready for this next down he's back to throw again on second down and they hit him just as he releases the ball it's incomplete man the quarterback got nailed there Chris we'll have to take another look he gets the ball out but he took a big hit this offensive line has got to do a better job at taking care of their Superstar if they want to have a chance to win this game they're finally able to stop him but the defense has fooled a bit on that screen play it's a solid gain for a first down that'll put him over 150 yds today Kirk he is putting on a show on this big stage how great is this on this stage as you mentioned Chris just playing his best game he's been in sync with his receivers back there has time to throw just having a dream performance they keep the drive going it's a first out to the 46 Alabama comes up to the line quickly Bo this offense does such a great job of putting the threat of the quarterback and the running back on this defense it puts the defense in a tough spot because it's really hard to take both away this time the quarterback gets out and shows you the speed he has as well it's a huge gain all the way down inside the 30 you know Chris you think about it efficiency has always kind of been the description of a great Alabama quarterback man think about the playmakers that they've had over the last few years at this position Jaylen Tua Bry young recently just a different level of quarterback play and really gives this offense Edge to it on the hand out they'll test the right side here tackle behind the line it's a loss of two I think we all kind of get caught up in third down what what it's an offense doing on third down but I think what's also important is how well do you defend first down if you can hold your opponents to a short gain or a tackle for a loss you throw the offense out of whack and their game plan gets much more challenging to try to come up with that first down looking to throw it's milro it's a screen pass complete to the running back and they bring him down that's a very solid game but still well short of the marker good time here to drop this screen in by the offensive coordinator and a nice job by the running back being able to pick up some positive yards here on this play third down they're going to try the Jet Sweep he's got some room can he get there and he'll make it in for the score touchdown tie so the offense flexing Kirk and stretching the lead here now in the second half well you can catch your breath here a little bit if you're this offense that touchdown can help you out but now your own defense can help you preserve the lead so you can go back out and continue to build upon that to the Finish extra point makes the lead 11 that score 21 L now the kickoff team is out on the field kick it [Applause] off return begins inside the 10 bulldozing his way through those tackles be tackled at the 177 strong job by the coverage [Applause] [Music] team and that Bayou Bengals offense is back out on the field they were clicking last time great protection the pitch and catch was solid right down for a touchdown try to catch the defense with the draw he stopped just short of that first down marker inches away from him boy positive yards there on First and 10 good job up front by that offensive line good hard running by this running back and now you got a lot of options that Playbook can really open up on second [Applause] inches they call the counterplay here brought down at the 33 that's good enough to move the sticks hey it's a nice pick up you got the first down on the ground that's a great job but remember it's a two possession game you got to pick it up a bit this def def will welcome those kind of plays all game long because the clock will keep moving so you got to put that ball in the end zone and try to get the ball back to throw it's nus me looks over the middle and that's complete they bring him down just short of the marker inches away from a first down pass caught second down now CHR here we are in the fourth quarter these guys are trailing had been a great day but with this quarterback he's as gifted as anybody in the country you never count these guys out they attack the Deep middle of this defense C come up with a big play nice job giving that quarterback time to throw good job of making that read to the middle of the field and working against those safeties and a big play as the result escaping the pressure moving right choosing to just throw the ball away that time second down play now coming up man the defense took everything away from him what are you expect him to do he can't force the ball into traffic and potentially throw the interception does a good job of getting out of the pocket away from the pressure and just throw the ball away see what happens on this next down so second down after the incompletion looking to throw again he's moving out and he's going to fling it deep going for it all here makes the grab in the end zone touchdown LSU the obvious move here is to go for a two-point verion to cut this lead to Three As Time winds down there's the snap looking to throw the ball oh and it's batted down by the defense great play to deny a touchdown the kickoff team on the field now as they get set to send this one away and the fair catch signal for and takeen [Music] [Applause] [Music] here comes the Crimson tied offense onto the field suddenly this is a tighter game we'd love to build a drive and Cho some clock how aggressive will they get with the pl home they'll stop him behind the line and L of one Chris good job here on this stop but remember the ball is inbounds and the clock keeps moving here late in the game and you're trailing defense got to start thinking about utilizing those timeouts you got all three to use but what point are you going to start putting those into play looking to throw it deep caught way downfield for a huge gain out of bounds but not before a big game this offense is ripping the defense apart today big chunk play this offense operating at Peak efficiency and they'll work the clock here by keeping it on the ground solid 8yd gain brings up a second and two yeah I like the Run play here and offensively at this point in the game you want to remain in that attack mode first while also staying in bounds and working that clock trying to get the ball to the perimeter on the Jet Sweep they'll stop him behind the line for loss and one man the biggest thing when you run the Jet Sweep you cannot afford penetration here the defense does a nice job almost anticipating the Jet Sweep is coming and they and make this offense pay for that with a significant loss can't hold on good defensive play brings up a fourth down how about the call here they call with a screen on third down and short you don't see that called very often they're not able to even complete the pass so no chance at a conversion so we got fourth and short fourth down now time for perhaps one more play before we hit the two-minute Warner trying for a fourth down complet oh and it's incomplete and the drive ends right there I really thought that this was going to work out showing an aggressive approach here going for it on fourth down look to be there they just weren't able to complete it first down here time for one more play before the fox stops for the two-minute [Music] [Applause] warning they'll run it from the gun as the first down still on the move they bring it down but the gain moves the ball into enemy territory at the 43 fresh set it down it's first and [Music] 10 back to throw it's nus me quarterback escapes the pocket that's the third pick tonight thrown by this QB going the other way can they stop him the 20 at the 10 return a pick six touchdown B what a job by this defense coming up with this huge interception they cut into this lead and on the other side what in the world are you thinking under two minutes to go with a nice lead the last thing you want to do is turn the ball over and throw it now you've given your opponent a chance to get within a possession and here's the return from inside the five he stopped at the 20 to make something happen but that's good coverage [Applause] [Music] there and here comes that LSU offense back onto the field let's see if they can bounce back from that costly mistake last time a pick six and there's a deep throw with the clock winding down another interception wow that's his fourth tonight takes the pick to the end zone touch down Alabama what a job by this defense to get this pick six and on the other side what a you thinking throwing the football with a nice lead with under two minutes to go now we've got a one possession game if they make this extra point here's a kickoff team let's see if they give the returner an opportunity to bring this back this one will be fair caught [Music] first down play call coming up how aggressive will it be easy they'll try the ground game here with the running back Breaking Free at the 35 and the second effort there will earn him the first down well depending on the temperament of the head coach he's either turning to the bench and screaming where in the heck was that all G or maybe he's just kind of keep that to himself thinking all right maybe this is something to build on maybe something positive can come out of this you're going to have some bad games from time to time we'll see how he gets his team ready in the future that right there that's what they've been looking for all [Music] [Applause] game so the offense with a first and 10 now the football placed exactly at Midfield quarterback appears to be changing the play here comes a first down pass attempt rolls right trying to make something happen and that's interception number five when will this QB get the hook tackled after a short return to the 23 nice play by this defense boy with this quarterback love to have this one back they're trying to work themselves back into this game here in the second half and and the defense comes up with a big turnover that could breath the nail in the coffin Alabama's offense coming back onto the field off the play fake looking to throw on first down looking to scramble it's incomplete he was hit as he threw good pass rush there on first down and I am so impressed with the athletic ability and speed of this defense quarterback does a pretty good job of keeping the Play Alive scrambling off to his right but that def defensive speed and their aggressive nature get to him got the first down now looking for more they finally make the tackle but the big gain moves the ball across Midfield to the 47 Alabama comes up to the line quickly and the wi out goes in motion oh handed off here's a Jet Sweep goes backwards losing three yards there you know I don't want to get away from a Jet Sweep I think it's a good call this one just didn't work out so now you're way behind on the sticks second down play coming up play action fake looking to throw pressure is coming he's hit as he throws it it's incomplete he was hit as he threw that time and now third down coming up Bo this one's on the offensive line Chris they've got to do a better job of protecting the franchise quarterback this guy's as good as there is in the country and they're letting this pressure down goes the quarterback it's a sack great call here going that nickel defense giving him more speed on the field on that third down and long nowhere to go gave the defensive line plenty of time to come up with that sack and now it's fourth down and long that will bounce and roll out of bounds so no return [Music] okay so here comes the LSU offense back on the field at this point there's not much you can do except play for Pride the junior able to bring him down quickly offense getting set second down play here play action fake looking to throw and the clock winding down they'll take a deep shot the pass is intercepted as he throws into
