at home baking after school I've never been the mom at home baking all the time and I have become the mom at home baking like the smell of freshly baked bread is the only thing our house smells like the only thing I had to pick you up pick you up on there is um we're not all working from home okay we're we're all working from your home it's so different everyone pictured like oh you guys all get a DAT at home no oh well you better organize better contracts that's true anyway I'm on to my fifth low in a week and the person I have to blame for this is um my beautiful friend Kate langbrook we that's happened in a long time in my life and I can't stop making it eating it I have fresh veggie oh my God and we were it's all we text about the other day K said I'm going to now give you my bagel recipe yes in fact I said I'm going to make you Bagels yes yes you did which I will do next week and I will drop them into the show and then you'll have something else to curse me for we'll do it on the day that we're working from my house did you know here's a fun fact that Kate told me is that bagels are is boiled they're boiled bread that actually means boiled bread in yish so before you bake them Tommy you'll be taking notes you actually drop them so you form them into the circles and then you drop them in boiling water and you flip them on for like a minute or two minutes each side the experimentation that must have gone into making these foods that we don't think a second thought of is just incredible it must have been Millennia to get down to this thing that we're now like oh yeah bagel oh yeah Co you know what it's so true and also a lot of those Foods came from experimenting because you had nothing so you only had like maybe a bag of wavely flour you're like what can I do with this it's different what can I add so we didn't get you on just to discuss bread though Kate I got you on pretty much to um say goodbye I think because I didn't realize in this bread making process I would lose one of my closest friends over it because I bought you a present so Kate said to me when we were discussing bread she said the only problem that she has with all of her bread making is she doesn't have a good bread knife and I thought I hate slicing it because I've got a blunt old bread knife and it's just just a drag to slice hence the saying the best thing since sliced bread yes and so I went online and I sent Kate a bread knife in the mail wonderful what to say thank you for this recipe yes yes and how did you feel when you received it I was so well first I was mystified because I I'd been Peter and I had been out my husband and I had been out and we got home at midnight and my daughter said something really weird arve for you to day and brandish is a knife at me like what what is going on what what and then I realized cuz you sent it to an amalgam of your name and my name oh did I and I went oh but darling has sent me a bread knif then my first thought was you know why so I didn't know why Kate but I do now and now I want it back I'm feeling terrible what's what am I missing from the thrill of getting a blade in the post what am I yeah the blade in the post what am I what have I missed Katie okay so you can never give someone a knife this is good for weddings and stuff if you give someone a knife you have to also give them a gold coin with it or is it only bad for the person that dropped it as long as the person that drops it doesn't pick it up and I don't tell me I don't ask me why but it's just bad luck my mom's always said that one and my grandmother who um God lover she always says never put new shoes on a kitchen bench or a table yeah that's just a coolness thing but now i' I've just got a tough thing cuz I've I realized cuz often when I cook it's just me and the dogs at home so now I've got to teach the dogs to pick up my knives well that'd be pretty clever do you reckon I don't know either that will end in a very bad way so young kids with disability and yeah we just want everybody to get out there and come see what it's like to go to a disability inclusive and accessible Festival but also just have a sick time as well d i I can't emphasize enough to people who haven't been to Ability Fest to get along ability first.com is where you get your tickets there's one in Brisbane one in Melbourne as well and it you get all the joy and great music for that you get at a music festival but then there's just something else it's honestly one of the most Feelgood and wonderful things I've ever been to I don't I don't know if you remember talk about you were there with me and I remember you just came up and gave me a big hug and it's I'm it's like tangible the energy isn't it mate yeah it is and I think I think if you we take for granted all all you know people without disability sometimes that you can just walk down the street and go into a bar and watch a live music event or you can buy a ticket that's something's taken away from our our community and just seeing you know people in wheelchairs go to a gig with their brother for the first time or someone with autism feeling safe to go to to to an event where they have a sensory room or whatever it's like it's just unbelievable and um I really encourage anybody who hasn't come you're not come into some like disability Fest that's going to be lame it's like just a sick awesome party first and foremost but you know the the love that is in the air when it happens is so cool and to be able to not just do it in Melbourne on October 19 but also brisbon on October 26 we want to eventually take it nationally and yeah we're really proud of it do you when you talk about that tangible energy Dylan that's how I would describe you like there's something that happens when you come into a room it is an energy like nothing else and I think that's why ability Fest is what it is is too because it's it's yours and it's got you at its core and I think there's something unique about you that you bring to everyone you meet that's very nice I know I'm it's it's not me it's just the people that are around me and I know you two get embarrassed when I say this publicly but when nobody knew who I was you were two people that gave me a chance right and and we have all done this including everyone listening right now and we create that energy we create that change by trying new things and challenging the status quo and and actually you know having allies and and try to change that perception together and um yeah I just love try I just love being myself to be honest and um saying that but it is all you but that's fine I also think you I also think D Carrie just said something incredibly nice about you but I don't think she's seen you as pissed as but um I tell you what like I often get mistaken I'm so proud to be a par Olympian I love being a par Olympian I can't wait for the Paralympics but I've never been to the Olympics because I'm always training for the Paralympics so um to to be a person with disability hosting the Olympics I'm very honored and very cool and and and and I'm I've heard Paris is not the worst place in the world to hang out for for we so I think I might be able to find some fun to do as well how what a fun little break in the middle going hang out with dom do where's Dom playing uh he plays everywhere these days yeah it was he Dom was my housee um for a while and uh it is a yeah so name it is Dominic is his real name yeah dollar is his real last name too I don't know could be Jesus Christ it could just be a cool last name dollar d o l a isn't it good I'm sure there's dollars out there somewhere family going why are you laughing at the dollars the dollars got to go around the dollars what sports are you commentating Dylan yeah so I'm actually uh hosting the whole broadcast so I need I've got 581 pages of reading to do oh my God so you have to know everything yeah because yeah I'm I'm hosting 3 to 7 p.m. every day um with Lea mckill is our time slot so yeah I need to know about break dancing I need to know about the beach volleyball equestrian absolutely everything and that's so cool and like what I love about the Olympics and paralympic games is you fall in love with sports you don't even know you like and you meet athletes that you don't even know exist and and we have such a great team of Australian Olympians and Par Olympians ready to go and you know you always undiscover discover those I guess diamond in the rough like people that are now they becoming the vernacular of the country like you know no one really knew coas 3 one gold and now he's a superstar whatever it is and I just can't wait to see who we as a nation are about to discover and the main reason exciting I went to Tokyo it was one of the best moments of our life rning gold and the golden slam but there was only two people in the stadium it was really sad so to have the crowds back and the energy the that was Co wasn't it yeah so to have the full crowd and the spirit back I think it's going to come through the Telly and um yeah can't wait to bring it into everybody's TVs hey D when I think of um kind of great commentators and people who have uh been the voice of what have become iconic moments in um particularly Australian history and Sport Bruce m mcavan is probably at the top of the list is the the the fear that you are that's going to be your voice now who who are the greats in terms of calling sports do you look up to oh M there is no better call than Bruce's call of Kathy Freeman winning that gold medal and um Bruce got n um got a Str sport Hall of Fame and he talked about some of the oh maybe I think it was at the locus actually and he talked about some of the Great Moments that he got to commentate and he mentioned my name and I almost SC out of my bloody wheelchair you know like like I just could have I could have believe it when he said it and if I could do 10% of the job that someone like he did you know and just what a what a beautiful person I think the the best broadcasters aren't just good at their job they're good people as well because that's when you get the best answers out of the athletes or the people that you're interviewing and um yeah I'm just going to try and be a good person and be myself and it's not about me it's about the people that are on the field doing the best that they can and just being a bit of a you know we're just the people in the middle just bringing it across but yeah I just can't believe I've been trusted with that you can hear my voice how pumped I am I I really hope I can do it justice hey D I don't know uh we we've been friends for a long time and so I think maybe I take these things less seriously than than other people because um you have kind of made me realize as well as other examples in my life that just because you're talking with or about um someone with a disability or about that whole world that it doesn't suddenly need to be serious and you don't need to talk about it like it's something different or separate from other things in the world but I'm interested in your thoughts on this the um Paralympics Tik Tok account that has plays basically just Stacks like it's just like any kind of sports fails account except it happens to be exclusive um to like par Olympians um some people usually able-bodied people are up in arms they're like you're mocking the par Olympics I view it like any kind of fils account where I think it's funny but now I've started to think am I wrong what do you have any thoughts on it great yeah I've been asked a bit lately and you're right a lot of the outrage is often from a well-intentioned Able Body people trying to protect people with disability I I'll say this to say it's a video of me stacking it while I'm playing tennis and it's funny we would do the same thing if Roger feder phoma correct so it actually is inclusive and the most important thing which I did check is guess who's making those Tik toks people with disability so it's not aodi people making them it's actually people with disability behind making them about our community I think if they get what they've done really well now is they've got the balance between the funny meme style but then also showcasing the eliteness of the sport which is really important but for engagement they've got like 10 million on Tik Tok like it's so cool that's so powerful for the movement that people are engaged and I really hope that it brings viewers and I please pretty pleased that you're
