early hours of Saturday morning for the opening ceremony but um the Australian sevens and men's rugby have' already won two matches they great beaten Kenya um they also beat Samoa so we've actually had a good start they've named the flag bearers everything's flying at the moment Jess Fox and Eddie oen Eddie oen is he a hockey player he's a hockey play I think it's his fifth game yeah amazing pretty amazing five games that's well what two decades essentially he's been representing Australia which is just amazing I'd love to be in Paris ma mine's arriving there today um I just thinking hell exciting would that be it would be I would be very overwhelmed with which like which events how do you get tickets and stuff I think it's all bed very very tough I know that's the thing what if you went there and you couldn't get well obviously they've been trying for a long time before you're prepared parents parents of you know the athletes and that sort of thing you got to Fork out a hell of a lot of money like thousands and thousands of dollars for your tickets and um you I got a mate who's going his son swimming and he's sitting there you know they've had to invest thousands of dollars to um ensure that they can go and make sure they can see it see I'm so glad my children are underachiever save so much money don't have to get up early to take training you know it's just good to have mediocre children good morning good morning Grace Miller and Frankie good morning to um all the kids who are probably on their way to rowing this morning or maybe on their way to swimming hey keep going keep going at the Olympic sfm breakfast with Beck and soda hey what we love doing on the show is hearing your fantastic stories and there are so many great ones out there now be everyone has just their go-to story their great little moment that happened in time it might be something huge it might be something quirky but it's a thing you're D out on so when you're with your buddies and you might be at a barbecue they go back back back tell the story about the angry possum you know that sort of thing yeah we might have to do a podcast special for mine cuz it's a bit um intimate oh okay right so everyone has this famous story and we love you guys sharing your brilliant stories with us um take a listen to this one I predicted my husband's motorcycle accident that week I didn't want him to go anywhere it was a couple of days before Christmas and he decided that he was going to go out on his motorbike even though I carried on like a complete Fruit Loop and told him not to and at lunchtime I started feeling sick and started vomiting and I knew straight away he was either seriously hurt or he had passed away I stood out the front of my house saw the red and white Chopper fly over our house and I knew instantly that that Chopper was for him one one second later the police cars came flying around the corner straight to our house and said hey your husband blah I said I already know is he alive and I said we don't know yet he's come off a cliff and he's down the side of a bit down near Norville a guardian angel 3 minutes behind him in a car who was off duty paramedic saring go off this and red to his rescue they called triple zero and I believe all those events saves his life isn't that crazy so she had a bad feeling before he left she said don't leave and she said at least wear all of your protective gear and if he hadn't he absolutely would have died yeah that was Chantel from Seaford um isn't that amazing when you get that feeling you know it's going to happen she saw it she saw the helicopter go back and forward and I think it was what 10 12 hours before she actually found out that he is okay and he's recovering well he's got a couple of issues and that sort of thing but just an amazing story that sort of ESP type feel get she knew you hear that with like twins sometimes but yeah husband and wife very strong connection we love you sharing your stories um what about this one from Lea she has sent it in 048 5217 you can text us anytime um she had a dream really Vivid dream you know those ones that you know are real when you wake up they feel like it she said she had a dream she was engaged to a man called bull Bol right name ridiculous name anyway she woke up thought it was really strange went about her day broke her arm that day went to the hospital guess what the doctor's name was who treated her bull yes Dr bull bull bull W Absol great story did she marry him I want to know but no ball all right Emily has a great one one night she put her reading glasses on top of her book next morning wakes up the glasses were gone looks everywhere so can't find them gets another pair months later she wakes up one morning and both pairs of glasses were on the on the book really like the ghost that was wearing them suddenly decided to return them right well we are going to get more stories that you for we right if you have one give us a summers's day down the beach you would choose thongs over sandals definitely yep and do you have pets and you told me you have two dogs and their names are Zara and Daisy right okay so two little what sort of dogs are they Michelle uh one's a Masti and the other one is a um oh my gosh I've got what my dog is oh a staffy oh beautiful you're m in a staffy right the postman must love you Michelle okay let's uh work this out now I think your car is reasonably new right reasonably it's not like it's not like 10 15 years old okay I don't think no yeah okay um and I'm going to come straight out and say that it is it's a bright color um but not the most obvious color so I'm going to go with like a um is your car silver oh my God yes right what now you got a couple of dogs you get them around it's probably not a tiny little car i' I'd say midsizer um how long ago did you buy your car Michelle uh probably about 12 months ago oh it's that new new wow that new it's that new yeah oh okay well that okay well I'm I'm thinking it's silver I can see it um I can see a couple of dogs in the back m and a and a staffy um when you bought your car did you buy an mg I did oh my God get out of here you soda we had a hard rubbish pickup at our house this week did a big clean up on the weekend put everything out on the curb you get a couple of year that right now do you get two two in it's different it was better when it was just a hard rubbish area where they did it you know where everyone got on board now rather book your own yeah and then you could kind of cruise around the streets and keep an eye out for things people everywhere just getting around in trailers or in little for time wasn't it anything but it's completely changed know why they changed it but yeah I preferred it before as well half the stuff we put out went before they picked it up which is great cuz I like things being rehomed what would have been the best find from the mor w a actually there was a good one and this went in James said 5 minutes someone stopped and picked it up it was a little kids chair cuz our kids obviously too big it was really it was pink little girl would have loved it but there was just no one in our family that would have taken it so and it was still in good NE it was in great condition it been loved what find I know I mean I could have probably I could have taken it down to the Salos to be honest but what's the worst thing you had out there that's still what do we have oh we had an old um wooden sort of shelf that was pretty decrepit that no one would have been able to repurpose but as I was driving out the driveway to go to work on the morning it was getting picked up there was this huge like fulllength mirror on the pile completely shattered which is obviously seven years bad luck and I don't know whether I want someone else's bad luck on my curb yep that did not belong to us and I think that's taking the I don't think you can put your hard rubbish on someone else's Verge is that a euphemism keep your hard rubbish out of my bird what is wrong with the doing that though it's like using the bins you can certainly go and access once things are out there they open sther my position on that is keep your rubbish out of my bins as well because your rubbish might be full of stinky like nappies and prawn shells and then my wheelie Bin's going to stink from your rubbish where's your community-minded spirit if it was a neighbor and they knocked on the door and said hey we've got a mirror gym I would like pop it on for sure but not just randomly dropping your mirror no it's un Australian it's un Australian did you ever peak of yourself in it when you walk I was driving at the driveway do you think I'm that ve that I got out oh there's a mirror I haven't looked in it was merely a question wasn't a statement it was a question that's why I was late for work you protest way too much all right it's it's always a good one on the phones and the text 13160 that's good you should be able to encourage that get people to get involved and if got it rid of their stuff you've already ordered organized it um what about Sharon 048 5217 Cent a text um she found a finger and human teeth in hard rubbish a few years ago in a really nice suburb and she refuses to go through now a human finger and teeth what no thank you this is a better F from Bonnie she found $1,000 in an envelope taped to the bottom of a drawer and she went to take it back but it was um like a deceased estate and no one was there anymore so she of course but also Rachel did you really that Old Chestnut oh no I knocked on the door tried best I really tried to return that I'm sure you did right bigy and S Gardens what did you find in hard rubbish I actually found a a handcarved leather top like bed box trunk so it's something you store your bed sheets and pillow and yeah and also like cuz it was a moving out sales we also got like an outdoor setting TV we got everything like we ended up in like one of the rich areas I think it's like Burnside or you know so yeah we we bargained like yeah it was a great deal like oh the bed top was worth over $1,000 as well wow so yeah and because it was handcarved I'm pretty sure if I go upstairs it's a steple so they're all handcarved it's all beautiful like like oh Immaculate nice F Vic well done burnside's a good place to go hard rubbish let's throw out the Chesterfield shall we we don't need that anymore uh Britney in parall what did you find in hard rubbish yeah I found a um trike H like one of those little children's three-wheeler triack things um and it was really moldy and torn apart and uh full of rust and I picked it up and thought I'd take it home and make a bit of a project out of it um and then as I was Googling things on how to fix it up and stuff I found that it was called so I took it back to the shop and I got a $200 refund well played Britney I mean it's probably not the morally right thing to do but kept it off the street from another kid and you know every sent counts nowadays yeah I I think Britney did a wonderful community service imagine if some kid got on that had been recalled cuz it was clearly life Britney yeah defective you are you are a great Samaritan Britney well done keep them coming through we love him what did you get pick up in hard rubbish the autom master text line as games all my games okay all right as you just said so to the opening ceremony early hours of Saturday morning our time speculation mounting as to who will perform Lady Gaga strongly tipped she has been spotted in Paris mhm and Seline Dion also posting on the gram a shot of her in front of the L okay W she's that would be both good gets but I have some side mail um that in a throwback to Sydney 2000 we could also be hearing [Music] this I don't think we will Nikki Webster Nikki Webster I don't think she did strawberry I know but that's what we could find in short in short not fortunately I don't think we'll have her or M life which is good um we have this uh BMX Champion Logan Martin we remember him from Tokyo he won Australia gold medal awesome guys the guy had the big fun park in his backyard where he practicing great this him and his mate they they've got their van they were in Belgium um last night their van is been busted into and thieves have grabbed all their bags but they're able to track some of them down thank God for bag tags we found our our bags all massage table yes they ate your joies how's that so they did have the little air tags in their bags they found them all strewn over near a park with everything out there fortunately they didn't get the bikes they were elsewhere how lucky the belgians do like their chocolates but well they do but terrible situation and that can sort of play with your mind a bit to he's lost his helmet and a lot of his gear so that is no good not a good start I I reckon there's going to be a few dodgy things happen over there yeah hopefully they uh have increased uh their security uh but bed bugs also a problem in Paris don't just worry about crime they haven't got the bed bugs under control so uh tourists are being urged to check their beds for signs of little bugs when they check in oh for the tourists surely for the athletes surely maybe that's why they've got cardboard beds so the and all their gear is new as well I I think this is more for tourists who are over there to check to check the beds for you had bed bugs when you travel uh yeah I have I had a dirty pillowcase and um beds uh bed bugs in Turkey yeah not a fun of the backpacking experience um now of course the flame will be lit in the early hours of Saturday morning our time um it will be uh the it's going through France at the moment I had a mental blank then I was about to say Paris it's going through France at the moment heading to Paris um and now getting close to the stadium um Kelvin Broadus Jr will carry the flame is he a Frenchman a French athlete or you think Kelvin brus Jr no no no he's Snoop Dog Snoop Dog Snoop Dog's carrying the torch Snoop Dog is going to be carrying the Olympic torch pretty close right up until it gets to the Eiffel Tower where it gets lit yeah um this is a remarkable situation now Snoop is over there because he's the correspondent for NBC's coverage and he said that he can't wait journalist now deliver his regular reports he was at the Olympic trials in Eugene Oregon for the U for the track and field so he's right into it but I can just imagine big Snoop Dog just cruising down the shve with his with his flame just probably lighting up a big dude God how appropriate sfm breakfast with Beck and soda we back the Olympic Games only days away and then followed straight after that we have the par Olympics in Paris 2 which is going to be huge uh we've got a very very special guest who is heading over in a couple of weeks he is rowing in the par Olympics he is a superstar his name is Jed o schwager Jed great to have you here buddy thanks guys appreciate it this is our actual uh Elite athlete our only genuine par Olympian or Olympian who's going to the games that is part of our program are not the Olympic Games which we are doing but before we get to that yet um Beck I've got to tell you about Jed's story and he's going to tell you it is a remarkable situation um he's rowing now he's just an absolute Superstar but Jed take us back to how you got into this situation as a paralympian yeah it was coming up N9 years so in about two weeks nine years I had a workplace accident uh from the studios here we're looking out to kind of Belair way that's where it happened um I had an excavator roll over Crush injury left foot uh amputated that night uh and then from that Journey you know the rehab Journey uh really sort of discovered the importance of my body and all of that and that kind of set me on a on a really positive snowball and of of opportunity found myself sort of wondering how far I can take it uh and uh representing my country was kind of front of mind um and and from there uh sort of reached out to a few people ended up sort of getting Talent ided early 2017 um made my first national team headed over to Poland in 2018 were you a rower before no mate I played in the band drank beers wow and uh you know enjoyed the outdoors camping and surfing so wasn't a roll before Fitness wasn't part of my routine or regime and uh when you lose a bit of your body you kind of figure out how how special it is so you want to look after it J tell us the situation so it was a bobcat wasn't it excavator and what had happened yeah we got it I was operating it we got it uh quite steep driveway we had a slight cave in under the left track which resulted in the machine slowly tipping over and then I've put my leg out as a re and it's gotten pinned between the the cab and the road or path and then you know I was under that thing for about 15 minutes 12 15 minutes and uh you know all I was sort of worried about was whether I could go on my overseas trip with the boys two weeks later I was asking everyone but um you know it was it is what it was and um it was it was quite intense and horrific and all that and um you know I was rushed to flinder's Medical Center met by my wife there and a friend and and and all of that and then you know the journey began um J can I just ask you a question right people doing tough all the time and and everyone has the issues they got to deal with when someone's faced with something that feels insurmountable something that they just can't get their head around like you would have at one point what do you say to someone like that how do they make that start it for me it was like simplifying it because it feels so overwhelming you know that like the fact that now I was an amput a disabled man like like all these tags it's just so it was just huge gigantic and hard to wrap my head around and very emotional and emotive and for me it was like all right I need to simplify this what can I do today like just one little thing you know one little thing if it's being present if it's a hug from someone like it's was just small things sometimes it felt forced um and sometimes it didn't work but it was just slowly layering in those things daily was like all I kind of had the uh energy for was just day after day you know I couldn't really look too much further than that and it was just you know it's it it just Lay It Up and Snowboard positively yeah well we are about to um make you contest our not the Olympic Games and hearing what a deep think you are I'm a bit embarrassed to tell you what we're going to ask you well essentially so a real pivot yeah well you know in in a rolling race it's essentially 2K a row isn't it absolutely yeah we've got our Contender David taking you on and it would be unfair to put you on an ergo to roll against him a rolling machine because you're going to Blitz him you're world class y y so David is going to have to R 2K on an ergo Y what you're going to do is you're about to find out in a moment and it's not roll 2K on an ergo while he does you have another challenge to have to Ergo in his rehab and suddenly he's world champion he is but we're not going to let him row today because that would be too easy his Contender his Challenger is David from aoil Park have you ever been on a rowing machine before Dave I have never been on a rowing machine in my life right now Dave um this this is an opportunity for you to get hold of one of these Comfy Couch suits that we have had everyone create and design for us orc have produced them they look brilliant all you've got to do is row 2K 2 kilm cuz that's the distance in a rowing event 2K on the Ergo right yep okay so that's pretty straightforward like it at the gym anyone could do it well having said that I gave Dave a little warm up and he nearly fell off okay Dave there's no water to fall in just be careful you don't fall on the carpet now Jed is here Jed when you're rowing 2K on an ergo one of these maches what's your best time for 2K yeah so we do a few tests every year on the 2K for the 2K urg and my best time is 6 minutes 26 o right that is quick now if you go a up against David you're going to beat him on an ergo so Beck we've got something else while David has to row the 2K and mind you you're taking 6 and a half not sure how long Dave will take you have to what this is ridiculous I don't know how we've ended up here but Jen's holding an Ikea instruction booklet he has to assemble an Ikea flat Pat bedside table are you any good at assembly yeah I'm not too bad you I mean if we're at home my wife would be bossing me around and getting this done with me but solo I reckon I'll go right right o Jed this is pretty complicated um you're going to be okay I think now you used to work on the tools as well cuz you were lcer and construction all this sort of stuff so you knew exactly what you're doing so you're back on the tools today does it look okay it looks good y right here we go okay Dave hands on the row a bit um Dave how you feeling yeah a bit apprehensive yeah Dave just your sporting pedigree what's your background uh limited okay that's good some school sport yep um and then a a master's return at 45 that short lived about handful of games footy footy for Happy Valley Football Club and you've got four kids and you're showing them this is what you got to do guys that's true excellent okay David you have got two kilm to row yourself J you have got the as they call it here the older daring which is the Ikea bedside table um boys you ready 3 2 1 let's go good luck you too mate you too all right that just de straight on the drill Dave going okay mate I'm well thank you very just dropped a screw Dave has never rode before he's never been on an ergo yep and he is really finding some form late 2K is what your distance is how far are you 1694 he's got 306 M left Jed Swagger look forward to this actually um Phil now we're going to get you to swim we'll explain all in just a moment but uh we are edging very close to the opening ceremony in a couple of days in Paris um but you've been at three games when we get to this time of the year I imagine everything comes flooding back and there must have been just an amazing experience particularly at home as well in Sydney oh it was it it was phenomenal like there was a million people walking around homebush Bay and around the streets of Sydney every night for two weeks solid in Sydney in 2000 you know like the crowd and the atmosphere and the vibe of the whole place was uh phenomenal oh so you're going to be some have some late nights over the next couple of weeks pH yeah yeah I think it's more early mornings the uh the finals of the swimming will be on at um Sparrow F I think so that's the technical ter yeah may may well be early mornings night give us an insight into what it's like in the village Phil oh the the village is awesome it it's you know put 10,000 people all very likeminded all trying to do the best all very high Achievers you know and all um suffering for the last you know four years without a drink so it's uh yeah it's it's it's a really it's an unbelievable eclectic mix of countries and and people and sports because every every different athlete's a different size you know so it's unbelievable what you can you end up sitting on on a bus going from one side of the village to the other and I sat next to Frankie Fredericks who I think took a or bronze from the 100 meter on the track you know back in '96 and stuff and uh you just you don't realize who you sitting next to until you sort of look and someone else go hey Frankie you know like and and it's phenomenal just to be in that crowd and and uh yeah you go into the the meals Hall where they do all the meals uh and you could be you end up sitting next to anybody it's phenomenal hey Phil um obviously swimming is normally pretty early in the event uh in the games and then you're in the village for another week or so um a little looser times for some people it's not it's serious business um the swimming the swimming's on you know right at the very start so in the second week of the Olympics the the swimmers um tend to uh tend to enjoy themselves in the past couple of Olympics we've been sent home um due to co and all that sort of stuff so yeah um things have changed a little bit now compared to what they were in the 90s in the Heyday yeah I reckon you you were competing at the best time Phil tomorrow you are going to be swimming at the next gen the swimming pool there in north at what we need you to do mate you're a great breast ster but to even up this competition um what's your dog paddle like I haven't done dog padal since I was a kid this is so degrading feel to make you do this it's not the Olympic Games so are you on board to dog paddle for us th this is just stupid enough that I'm prepared to do it okay Phil you we need you to dog paddle right you are taking on in the dog paddle appropriately three dogs pickle the Siberian Husky um we've also got Zazu is a Siberian Husky and Poppy is a Chihuahua cross those three dogs will be dog paddling you will be dog paddling if any of those dogs beat you we are going to align them with some people from the show who can call in and if any of those dogs beat you the people will get the comfy couch suit okay can you take on a Dogg and doggy battle oh I'm bit worried about these Siberian huskys I think because it's winter they I re they might have an edge um gon but we'll give it a go all right now obviously we can't get the dogs in with you at next gen so we will be Crossing to the Noah's Crossing Vet Clinic hydrotherapy pool at the same time we'll have two Arenas on the go and we'll be in the central commentary box calling it all tomorrow start practicing fil we'll see you tomorrow yeah do do you expect some level of
