welcome to Charlottesville home of the University of Virginia and the Cavaliers where around here they say learning never ends and they hope to teach a lesson in this one today two teams get set to square off in conference battle in the AAC as we'll see the winners of five straight the Memphis Tigers taking on a squad hoping to prevent another L this week the Virginia Cavaliers for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David Pollock and Jesse Palmer time to get this game [Applause] [Music] [Applause] started the Cavaliers will kick it away first this and it'll be a Touchback the ball will come out to the 25 yd line looking for a productive play on first down used the play fake now to throw quickly to the tight end and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up I'll say this man in college football you see a lot of bad tackling you didn't see it right there that was an awesome job first off being there at the point of attack once the tight end made the catch there was no doubt he was going down great job formt they go to the ground nice move there there's nothing better than opening drive coming out as an away team everybody's got all that excitement all that energy and being able to run the football and physically exert yourself to start a football game they'll snap it from the 39 first and 10 to the ground he's got it again you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four e the give to the back oh the ball squirts out the offense somehow fell on it and they'll retain possession the tigers are rolling down the field off the play fake on first down to throw at the 35 he's [Applause] loose and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end and the Tigers will snap it on First and 10 looking to pass inside the Red Zone lets it fly deep down field to the end zone and it's picked off and and he's wrapped up after a solid return on the [Applause] pick first down for this offense give to the back just a pick up of a couple out to the 15 yd line as a quarterback you've got to know in this area of the field it's tough to throw right the windows they open and close so quickly when you get down to the Red Zone what helps you is running the football but that's tough today cuz you're going up against one of the top 25 defense is stopping the run from the gun the ground game good vision and determination there to find his way up to the 23 yeah and a great job by the offensive line seeing the blitz picking it up and then it's on the running back running back finds the hole gets a little bit of a crease makes a nice run out of third down after the [Applause] run they'll try to pick it up on the ground and he's tripped up but not before picking up the first down well this offense is sending a little bit of a message here of course we know how much they've struggled on third down all season R they're just never able to seem to get into a rhythm but after that last running play moving the sticks you just wonder what that does for their confidence they'll snap this one from the 32 it's first down quarterback checking the play after the run run run now to throw quickly complete he was running through tackles and picked up the first down and finally got knocked down big play of the passing game there and I like the receiver hearing down in the zone did a nice job finding the soft spot on defense between the Defenders giving the quarterback an easy target to throw to to complete that throw he's looking to throw it they're setting up the screen and he'll step out bounds after a very productive play one of the things I love about this offense is they're very versatile in their passing attack they throw to receivers and tight ends and the screen game is big as well this guy is a weapon you're seeing that here [Applause] early from the shotgun the hand off to the back they get him on the ground but not before he gets enough for the first down these RPO runs they're like body blows I like them because it just sort of chips away at a defense you'll take these kind of gains all game long you keep running the football this way you're going to keep moving the sticks you're going to keep driving this defense back so keep at it with the [Applause] RPO might as well give it to him again they'll pick up up four second and Six coming and these rpos always put the defense in a bind but listen you give up the Run they get a short little game no harm no foul solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six leaves it with the back he work that running game down to the 34 let's give him three on the carry and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third four qu late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger [Applause] rounds on Third and short they keep it on the ground here thrust that arm out offens has gain momentum with third down conversions like that they've got it at the 25 you know this is a running back who wants the ball he wants the offense to run through him really nice job there on the third down of this opening drive for his offense I can't wait to see what kind of game this guy's going to have wants to throw on first down that's caught it's Fields they get him on the ground and with that we'll head to the second quarter we'll get this quarter going with a second down [Applause] Play Hands it off and he gets the first down but man did he get the hit stick laid on his Noggin yeah and a really nice job by the QVC Lineback are a little bit soft playing pass give the rock hand it off let the running back do the rest motion from the offense give to the running back able to pick up a couple before he's knocked down they mark it at the 10 going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the KN it's complete on the right side that throw and catch gets him down to the six and the defense is running out of that's a good job by the drag out there understanding it Zone coverage so instead of continuing to run across the field he settles down into an open spot making it easy for his [Applause] quarterback from the gun running back on the Move tough sliding in there picks up a couple but still needs two more on fourth down the big defensive tackles in the middle they're not always the best pass rushers but they are strong strong and I say Country Strong they put their hands on you you feel it they lock people out on the line of scrimmage they create separation they wrap running backs up and usually they don't get out of the mids of those big [Applause] boys receivers telling the quarterback what they see wide receiver coming across in [Applause] motion fires into traffic intercepted inside the 40 bulldozes him and they capitalize not only on the pick but on the great return to improve this field position really early in this game you're seeing the ball Hawks on both sides of the ball interception on the first drive of the game and now they come out and this defense gets a pick in return there are a lot of dudes in the back end with speed with the ability to close what a phenomenal play by that young man just now to get the ball back to his offense linebackers trying to create some The End Zone he goes touchdown Memphis this offense is so good can hurt you in so many different ways and they do it so quick so explosive they can put small Drives together big Drives together they've really had a great year and that's why they're a top 10 offense lining up for the [Music] p and he's got the extra point and it's seven nothing to start this one and for a quick update let's go to Kevin Conor in of getting this guy screen throws because of his ability after the catch so nice job getting down field getting a hat on hat and giving him a tunnel to run through second and short now after that completion quarterback will audible here's the hand off oh he's got a chance all kinds of Running Room we reach the two-minute warning and we have ourselves a ball game and they have a chance to take the lead here before the [Music] half from the 22 on First and 10 [Applause] wide out in [Applause] motion he wants to throw that's caught it's Harris touchdown Virginia that is the ultimate grab and goal for the score the passing game comes through man and we need more of that this second half an extra point away from Ty this football game you tra a little bit the first half stayed calm this passing game can continue to heat up look out for second half and he Tes on the extra point all TI up for just about set to kick it [Applause] away he'll bring it out it's Hawkins I know he thinks he can house every return but sometimes you just have to take a knee as he stopped at the 14 [Music] Memphis has the ball back and the offense ready to go to work and David how they would love to stick it in the end zone one more time after that last drive and once you get the defense on their Fe and you back them off a little bit you get in a little bit of Rhythm it's really hard to stop Jesse and they're going to try to do it again right here and if you're this play caller you're loving what's happening right now because everything you died up on that last Drive ended uping out you're just looking at your sheet everything you're picking is oh my God what a terrible decision that to take the saf so after giving up the duk on the safety now they'll be able to kick it away without a rush from the [Applause] 20 first down here for the offense [Applause] it's a draw able to SC three yard out of that one somehow it's second and seven and the Cavaliers racing to the line in the hurry up looking to throw it's calandria he looks that one in nicely and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few hey I'll tell you what that slot receiver he may not be the biggest receiver in the world but is Shifty and he runs really good routes you saw it on that [Applause] play and this offense is BU behind this guy I mean a guy that you can handle football to consistently and expect positive yards all day long all now he's over 100 yard trying to find his man on first down fires to the wide out to get a in there and knock it away and a really good job by the defender understanding the ball's coming I got to break on it and go and not try to intercept it and make a bad play he swats it down to make sure that's an inom let's see what they've got on second down [Music] [Applause] he's looking to throw safe completion on the screen they finally get him sto but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some lanes for their running back going up top on first down got a in it's brown and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one I want to get my running backs the ball in space as much as possible sometimes it doesn't work in the running game I can throw it to him I can try to create some space out wide dump him the football let him make some catches and see if I can't get some big plays out it pressure coming here he goes breaking the pocket with the catch it's pce offense calls a timeout here critically important to make sure they have the right play called and everyone on the same page here this is the type of play that games are you tough enough to convert third and short from the [Applause] 30 they'll try to get it through the air going for it all touchdown Cav and they'll put that scoreboard operator to work and put six on the board and with the extra point they the lead out a little further they put together a 65 yd drive from the score and they finish it up with the final 30 yds coming courtesy of that touchdown pass he'll start the return inside his five was qu able to shake Loose as he steps Out of Bounds at the 22 running out of time here in the first half they're going to have to be efficient to put some points on the board before the break to the ground with the B and a nice solid pick up there before the defense wrestles him to the ground they'll use a timeout right before halim maybe time for one or two more plays 6yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four they'll go to the ground just ran over it and he's got enough for the first down it'll be at the 35 we've got a timeout in the waning seconds of the half maybe a chance to get off a couple more plays one more snap coming before halftime looking downfield it's henan unloads to the wide out got his Man Down field they finally make the stop that's going to make those halftime stats look a little bit nicer as we head to the break at the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin and our up Memphis about to boot it away to start the second [Applause] half no return coming he'll call for the fair catch Virginia sending it offense back onto the field they opened this third quarter on top and they built the lead on the strength of that running game and they made a huge statement too just proving to the other team that they're more physical they're winning in the trenches so here in the second half David just keep demoralizing this defense by pounding the football yeah and I'm not going to let that happen I I riled up my guys at halftime we're going to put more people in the box and they we got to come out and meet the physical challenge of this offense after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 quarterback making adjustments with his receivers on second down looking again to throw extending the play Nothing open down field so he'll just toss it away and that goes down as incompletion but that's a smart play and the QB coach and the OC will be very happy with the decision of the quarterback he got outside the pocket he obviously was so he's outside The Tackle Box he knew could throw it away as long as he got it past the line of scrimmage nothing there nothing open Live to fight another down on third down he drops to throw using the back as a receiver on the screen they finally getting stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some lanes for their running back Cavaliers will snap it on First and 10 he's going to pass feeling nowhere to go and the ball is loose he picks it up still on his feet man this is why you practice Five Points of pressure with the football you cannot put the ball on the ground doesn't matter how many Defenders are around you how hard you get hit you cannot turn the football over and expect to win games the give to the back just a solid stop by this sophomore they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this [Applause] one looking to pass it's kandria and he can't escape and down he goes the defense coming up big there the sack is great but the secondary deserves some credit too no doubt when you can cover like that in the secondary drop back in your Zone and only Rush a few and you feel comfortable getting home and they're going to get to the quarterback that is a great feeling and that's fun to be defensive coord call he's brought down but really solid effort to Pi up B of he could on the pun return here comes that Memphis offense back onto the field out of the gun they'll run it inside listen that wasn't the greatest run in the world but it was very successful and you're making me honor the run and another every time you run the football someone gets tackled there's physicality involved in the game so I like when offenses commit to the run in the football no matter what the outcome is because those body blows do add up and they'll stop him after a minimal pickup and this offense is desperate to keep this drive alive trailing by multiple possessions and it's getting late they're going to go to the air on Third and short got his man all by himself hit the afterburners kid and he just kept running and he ran away from the crowd and he'll take it in touchdown tiger really nice job working the route and getting himself open he was able to locate the football snag it out of the air and this guy now has five receiving touchdowns on the year ready to try the point after and the Pat will draw them one point closer and let's check in with Kevin Conor in the studio Kevin guys let's take a look at what's happening in a great top 25 matchup Miami has the lead right now but this Kane's crowd is restless they just haven't been able to separate themselves yet there in the 305 they're up by 10 over Boston College he'll Circle back if anything big happens you should know about it and how about that one Kevin will be keeping an eye on everything going on elsewhere Virginia has it back the Cavalier offense headed to the field they still have the lead here Jesse but this would be a good time to put together a drive you're right reys you can't rest easy right now you just watch the opponent drive down the field to score a touchdown of their own so you got to answer that here your Playmakers better step up and I don't know what it is about momentum in all the locker rooms in all the years coaching everything you can't quantify you can't measure and the momentum has swung to the other side you got to get it [Applause] back the play action fake pocket starts to collapse gets it out quickly at the 45 on his way ried off a huge chunk play on that one as he gets the first now before he steps out of bounds and as a defense how scary is it having to defend this guy he's one of the fastest players in America and you saw it on that last play it's not necessarily throwing him the ball over your head they just get it to him quickly the hard part now is running and tackling that guy not easy to do it's just simple simple first down run showing your physicality setting your offense up in a good [Applause] spot back to throw it's candria he finds his man brought down at the 28 a chunk play 15 yard on that one and a first down and the offense here dialed up a really good Zone beater give credit to the offensive coordinator he called the right play at the right [Applause] time looking to go up top on first down got it in the middle it's Harrison I really like this slot receiver I understand he's not the biggest guy in the world but he just runs really good routes and he's always under control he can run option routes he can run double moves he does a great job cutting and he's dangerous after the catch nice weapon to have work in the middle of the field as they get set to snap at time winding down here in the quarter he's back to throw on second down it falls incomplete and will change into the field to get things started back up thir quis back on the field after the break and we'll start the quarter here on third down [Applause] quter moving the running back forcing the defense to adjust shotgun snap on third down getting some heat and he as he was releasing the pass and it falls to the ground incomplete with that incompletion it now sets up a very interesting decision for the got a narrow lead k the field goal now you force the opponent to have to at least score a touchdown to retake the lead but you can also seiz a lot of momentum if you get it here on Fourth and short if you're able to score a touchdown this is a completely different [Applause] [Music] [Applause] game onth down they'll pass for it no it's green he knew exactly where he wanted to go with that one and they've got enough for the first down you know you always talk about risk reward gambling with the lead on fourth down right there getting it the reward he could be winning the game that was an unbelievable play and how about this coaching staff putting their faith in their players to come up with the execution and make it happen they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one well the offense is trying to go counter but the defense blows it up and they do it by getting penetration up the middle setting up the tackle for [Applause] loss they'll run the option he'll pitch it well this is very interesting because now down here in the Red Zone you know it's not going to be easy throwing it as the windows are small can they run the ball against the best run defense in the entire nation this is as big a challenge as you're going to find offensively Bo they' love to pick up this conversion and go to work with a first and goal on Third and long he has to throw for it got it set up on the outside and that one looked great on the grease board but when they blow it up like that the defense is going to win every time and after that completion it's decision time now for the head coach do you kick a field goal add to your lead make it more difficult on the opposing offense or do you trust your quarterback to make one more big completion here and Ice the game so they were able to put up a three spot on that last drive and now the kickoff team out there as they prepare to put boot to Lea he'll bring it out it's Hawkins really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down air make the stop at the 19 Memphis has the ball back and the offense ready to go to work [Applause] from the shotgun now here's an inside GI and they'll finally catch up to him but not before a big chunk of yardage is picked up after that big Gainer to open things up they'll put it in play from the [Applause] 40 they'll throw it on first down down caught behind the line it's Taylor turns it on in Midfield oh count they make the stop that there is a flag on the field we'll see what that's all about the late hit moves the ball up 15 yards just couldn't stay off the quarterback in that roughing the passer call has them set up with a first and 10 looking to move it through the air makes the grab it's Anderson they go up top to get it down to the 5 yd line as they try to pay off this drive you can hand it to him you can throw it to him either way he's making his presence felt those are your favorite plays he the him plays right they're finding ways to get him the ball because he can make play touchdown Memphis and they've moved out front here in the four and this offense really showing their physicality running the football when it matters in the fourth quarter in crunch time to take the lead in this football game up by one they'll try to get the deuce and make it a field goal [Applause] Edge and it's intercepted a huge fourth quarter play for this defense inside the 50 the 30 he's at the 20 he just set sail for the End Zone after the pi and turns it into a twoo return this game is absolutely crazy we're here in the fourth quarter the defense just gave up the lead all of a sudden they get the block an extra point scoop score Convoy Johnny on the spot and just like that they retake the lead Virginia sending it offense back onto the field Jesse they had to kick a field goal the last time they had often times ear in games you're just trying to find your Rhythm some things work some don't on that first drive David beting to see what happens here in the second Drive yeah you got a feel for the defense now you understand what they're trying to do what their game plan is now you get to go into phase two of your game plan wow got three on first down it's second and seven the receivers often will run their route based on a side adjustment they'll Run play action looking deep he's got it downfield for a huge game and they pick up of better than 30 yard on that completion before the defense brings him down he was really beating himself up over that interception and that loss last week I know he's thrown a pick in this one but he's looked much more certain and what you ask quarterbacks to do now how much you put on their plate one mistake is okay those usually aren't the ones that are going to kill you so one the team winning the that he one big play can really flip the script of a drive it's first and 10 from just outside the 30 fast motion from the offense they'll keep it on the ground to keep this clock moving timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible got to believe they just want to run it take care of the football and keep that Spock moving on second and nine he'll keep it himself and he has Aid way sliding and that's what I love about the QB Run game in this offense is it just keeps these defenses off balance we're going to see a lot of running backs doing their work doing the tackles in this game as well but you see how mixing in the quarterback two it just keeps this defense so confused they were all over him nowhere to go as that third down play turned into a disaster how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on right down the football and flew down with some bad [Applause] intentions I got my light it looks [Applause] so quarterback changing the plays at the line B start let's go on too many too many adjustments they'll move it back so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty and now on fourth down they will put it on the shoulders of the kicker to save them with his foot [Applause] he splits to the uppr and puts three on the board let's go to the studio now and check in with Kevin Conor Kevin what do you got guys right back to your game after we update the nation on this one Navy answered the bill away from Annapolis today with an impressive Victory the mid knew the challeng is awaiting them and they met him at all generally the mark of a really good team it's one game you don't want to react too much either way but I think both teams will leave this one with some things to work on moving forward and Kevin Conor is keeping an eye on everything all over the country sounds like they had a good one there getting behind those pads and behind a stiff arm to get it out to the 27 sprinting to the line to try to get this one off clock's running to the air it's have zero timeouts left you cannot stop the clock right now if you're the defense so this is got to be excruciating for them they know the offense is just going to take their time before they snap the ball it came down to the final quarter guys and they get yeah re Big Time Players make big plays in big games that's what happened in this circumstance as a coaching staff David you love this you know that you have confidence in your guys to go out and be able to ex correct and you don't know until the game right you don't know when those moments present themselves how are they going to handle a
