College Football 25 🏈: Colorado Buffaloes at Wisconsin Badgers

for welcome to Madison and Camp Randall Stadium always Rowdy always ready to support the Badgers have been getting ready for this game since the early morning we got a tremendous match up for you tonight tailgating has been going on since the early morning and this place is locked and loaded as we'll see a squad out of the Big 12 the Colorado Buffalo taking on a squad from the Big 10 the Wisconsin baters EA Sports college football and Chris fer joined here in the booth by Kirk K Street Kirk let's get to the action on the field [Music] [Applause] the Buffalo will kick it away to get this game going he'll return it from inside the five makes it to the 16 that's good coverage there so Wisconsin's offense will be the first up today here comes that star wide receiver with the swag that kind of rubs opponents the wrong way Kirk because he's saying I don't care who you are I'm going to embarrass you today well Chris there's a rumor that this guy actually DMS the opposing Corners before the game that he's going to go up against as if to say hey it's going to be a long day for you today but the wild thing is he actually comes out and single-handedly unravels defenses to the point that by the end it looks like he's in the heads of the opposing secondary second down play coming up [Applause] takes the hand off again that's a nice tackle there by the senior you know in the era that we live in right now everybody wants to spread the field round try to create space try to create one-on-one matchups and the defense has countered over the years by trying to play out wide but here's a great example the defense has the ability to play wide with receiver left alone down there for a huge game and he's in the clear down the right side endzone head they're not going to get him who's in touchdown Wisconsin that is a dream start for the offense took what an opening possession you know sometimes you just want to kind of get settled into a game these guys didn't really wait at all they had a SP they knew exactly how to attack the defense and works out and they'll set up for the pat p is good so it's 7 [Music] nothing getting set to kick the ball off now he's going to return it from near the goal line tackled at the 22 good job by the coverage team [Applause] so Colorado's offense takes the field our first chance to see them today and here we go Kirk this match up on the edge that's going to go a long way to deciding this game an elite wide receiver and a guy who doesn't believe anybody can beat him this is going to be like a boxing match where it's an allout battle two extremely gifted athletes competing on every snap better get your popcorn ready they'll bring him down after just a short pickup defense does a really nice job here being able to contain that run game hold him just to two yards s Chris to me this changes the Playbook a little bit now for the offense the guy calling the plays at second eight that's a different deal now he's got to probably thinking about going through the air instead of staying on the ground listen to the crowd energy here in the early going this is a top top environment for visitors and now they run the draw Play Breaking tackles they stop him after a four yd gain and it brings up a fourth down well the running back comes up a little bit short of the first down big decision here for this offense because they are down the touchdown here early in the game they don't want to dig themselves too big of a potential hole running it back it's Anthony he's got an opening watch out he's got great speed they finally get him down but that's a solid return good work by The Return Man and here comes the Badgers offense back out on the field they punch it into the end zone the last time let's see if this defense has made some adjustments to stop him this time hat on a hat up front good job opening up the holes anytime you get positive yards on first down that's a win and they'll run it out of the shotgun not much on that play brought down short backs line up on either side of the quarterback [Music] third they're moving the receiver now before the snap back to throw it's Van Dyke quarterback finds an open Target of on the left side and moves the ball to the 35 another first down the Badgers come to the line to start a fresh set of downs from the shotgun it's a handoff just a short gain this time they're able to get him down hey it's a great job in this defense containing the running game if I'm calling the plays I'm not abandoning the running game just yet I think it's important to have some sense of balance so throwing in running is essential stick with it grab down the middle it's green tackled quickly after the catch he'll be short of the marker so it's third and short from the opponent's 28 let's see what the play call is here they're already in field goal range but thinking about the end zone game moves the ball to the 21 and a fresh set of downs and the Badgers pick up enough to get a first down there from the shot now here's an inside give they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one offense lines up this is the seventh play now in this drive FES the hand off here looking to throw it down goes the quarterback it's a sack I like the call here but you can't run long developing playaction passes like that if the offensive line is not going to give the quarterback time to throw eighth play of the drive coming up but a long way to go on third down here's the snap looking to throw here caught behind the line it's Anthony the defense stops him short of the marker so it's Fourth Down coming up the decision is not to go for it on fourth down here comes the field goal team and the kick is good offense settles for three on the drive and he'll goal in the final play of the opening [Music] quarter so it's Wisconsin with the lead here Kirk solid performance so far creating some separation here's the first quarter stats [Applause] kickoff team on the field getting set now and that kick will just bound into the end zone for a Touchback back at it to start the quarter offense getting set to win a first down [Music] play they call the counter run here they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one that was that excellent linebacker with with a clear path just run and downhill quickly you know I think one of the great things about watching this guy play all year is his vision he just has a great instincts that time the defensive line ate up all the linemen freed up the linebacker to get into the back field and the result is a tackle for a loss for the backer line getting set up it's a first down [Applause] play looking downfield it's Sanders but they don't make the connection that one is in complete what's the play call here on second down for this offense using the ground game here tailback has the hand off well another short game for this offense on the ground and you got to give a lot of credit to the defense they have really negated that aspect of this offense the entire first half and really making them onedimensional and if that doesn't change I don't know how they get back into this game finds his Target and it's complete he's tackled inside the 35 and picks up a first down what a clutch play Here by this offense to convert on third down I know it's still early in this game but the fact that they've dug themselves a hole to convert there and keep this drive alive they got a new set of downs and a chance to dig into the oh and he fumbles it's a turnover just anytime a quarterback starts to take off and scramble the defense is alert to try to get to him and dislodge that football he gets some positive yards but he doesn't take care of the ball and secure it you're able to knock it away on First and 10 here looking to throw the ball 5yd gain so it's second and five love the timing here between the quarterback and his receiver pick up some positive yards I continue to be impressed with just the the chemistry between these two here's the handoff fights off a Defender the senior able to make the stop after a short game tack the defensive coordinator this week all week telling us about Gap Integrity not giving this running back any creases at all really sound defense on that play they're going to run it back gets the carry they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one things just appeared to be a bit out of syn from the get going that one give credit to the front seven of that defense for staying in the proper lanes and getting to the ball carrier not let him dance around and make something out of nothing the coverage makes the stop on this return here comes the Colorado offense back out on the [Applause] field out of the shotgun he'll hand it off great job by the offensive line here opening up some holes and giving the running back room to run on first down plays like this can open up the playbook for the play caller allow him to make that defense think are they going to run maybe play action maybe throw the ball down field they'll run it here running back has the ball and he's brought down after a short gain does not make the first down yardage third down coming up after that running for a pop pass on the Jet Sweep takes it out to the 44 that's good for a first down you to me chis with this offense it's almost an extension of their running game you put the receiver out in motion you flip the ball out to him out to the outside let him do what he does best which is use his instincts and he picks up a first down it's a draw play they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one I mean Chris you have to admire this offense they continue to try to sprinkle in the Run game even though it's not been able to really get established but they're not just becoming onedimensional you got to respect that and hopefully at some point it'll pay off dropping back it's Sanders quick throw over the middle makes the catch down field he's brought down but not before Crossing Midfield to the 42 that's the two-minute warning let's see if this offense can do something before the break to cut into this big lead on First and 10 they'll look to throw it hit as he through he's going deep here oh the pass is picked off he's got some room and some blockers here follows the pick with a nice return before finally being brought down I'm going to give the defensive coordinator in tip of the cap here they went with dime coverage with six defensive backs which gives them a lot more speed on the field and with those defensive backs they're able to play better in space they recognize the ball step in front of it for a nice interception and the Wisconsin offense back out on the field the trying to build on their lead they were forced to punt on the last possession first play of the drive they'll come out throwing and it's incomplete the defender arrived the same time as the football and now it's second down here's the snap offense looking to throw the ball he'll take a deep shot here try a downfield shot that's a good effort there but now it's third down not going to be easy here back up a long way to go for a first down they'll try to pick up the yardage on the ground he stopped short of the marker so it's fourth down now the Badgers will have to punt this one away looking to kick it away for the second time the fair catch made at the 25 yd line [Applause] [Music] and the buffalo's offense is back out there on the field time is running out before halftime to cut into this now two possession Le first down looking to throw the ball looking for his big tight end catch made down the left side an explosive play rips off a big gain all the way to the Plus 43 yd line and just like that Chris all of a sudden the offensive coordinator in the quarterback they changed their approach that's a big play so instead of just maybe trying to get into field goal range now they're really thinking they got a shot to maybe get the ball in the end zone looks to the left for a quick throw the defender gets a hand in there to break the pass up oh my gosh they almost came up with another interception they had a pick on the last Drive they're doing such a good job of baiting this quarterback into throwing the ball into coverage and then making a play on the ball let's see if they can keep this going fires it to the wide out looks down field and finds a receiver who worked his way wide open they bring him down but an explosive play by this offense Big Game Boy this quarterback throws a beautiful ball another big game for this offense and a chance to get points on the board before we get to halftime here comes a throw from the Red Zone caught over the middle tackle is made at the 8 yd line it'll be first and goal right there one thing we know for sure I don't know if it's a play caller you can make that call without a quarterback who can throw it with a big arm he put that on and he's got it touchdown Buffalo love to watch this quarterback go out and execute in this kind of situation he's doing a great job of ignoring the scoreboard and feeling a sense of pressure to have to play with more urgency right now he's executing we're only in the second quarter plenty of time to get back in this game here's the point after attempt on exra point the extra point is good they Trail by three now [Applause] 107 so after the touchdown here's the kickoff and we'll see if the opposing offense has time to answer before halftime bringing it out it's Henry solid coverage there they get him at the 15 that's when the offense will take over here comes the first play of the drive can they do something in the final 30 seconds of the half and the single back takes the hand off they'll tackle him about the 23 yd line looks like one more play here before halftime tailb back with another carry and they get him down what will be the final play of this first half M's going to wrap up the first half here let's kick it now Kevin Connor with our halftime update fellas Yan's work so far in Madison and welcome in to the halftime update and we have to start this halftime breakdown by addressing the play of this Elite wide receiver this is clearly a young man who once he's finished playing on Saturdays he's going to be playing on Sundays the kid has different gears he has a knack for finding gaps into defense and I can't remember a college player with that kind of catch rate I and on that note time to throw it back to our guys at the stadium all right thank you for the update Kevin appreciate it and the Badgers will kick this away to get the second half going he's going to bring it out of the End Zone from a couple yards deep solid coverage there they get him at the 15 that's when the offense will take over and the Colorado offense is back out on the field [Applause] they get the second half started with the running play they stop him after a 6yd gain so second and four it's a good solid game five or six yards love to see that from the running game good throw it's Sanders and here comes a deep shot fired into a tight window and picked off and he's wrapped up after a solid return oh great Hands by the defender to take that ball away pretty much steal it from the intended receiver I don't know if I'd be targeting that Defender very many more times the offensive coordinator begins this drive with excellent field position and ball is handed off out of the shotgun the pickup is seven yds now second and three I tell you to be able to pick up a nice gain like that those offensive linemen have to sustain their blocks gave them a chance at a really nice game here's the handoff on a counter he stop and gets a first down look I realize on any play call when it's properly executed it can go to the house for a touch but the ones that really make a game plan work are the ones where you get just what you need and he barely got the first down but he got it now it's second down [Applause] here trying to find some room it's maloi they make the stop but not before a solid gain that time just a great play by the running back here finding his lanes and then exploding through the Gap when it opened up it's a shotgun run call they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one well they run it right into a blitz and that linebacker was coming down hilker man what a time to call that Blitz here by the defensive coordinator and you're right he shoots right through that a gap really the back had nowhere to go by the time he got the ball in his hands linebacker right in his face and they convert here on third down in the Red Zone this is a fourpoint type of play touchdown or field goal drops back looking to throw for it on third down makes the grab a chance to score all the way to the end zone touchdown Badger this guy can do it all we've seen him go behind coverage and make plays down field we can see him catch the ball underneath just like this he the football he is so dangerous after the catch this one leads him into the end zone for the six points and now here comes the point after attempt extra point the extra point makes it a 10-point [Music] game here's kickoff team let's see if they give the returner opportunity to bring this back and the return starts just inside the end zone solid coverage there they get him at the 15 that's where the offense will take over and the Colorado offense is back out on the field this drive is important last one ended in an interception let's see if they can get it going here it's a fumble defense recovers the fumble big takeaway how about this defense flying in there trying to get their hat on the ball they do and they're able to pounce on it for a big turnover outstanding field position to begin this drive that's the wide receiver coming in motion now here comes a first down pass attempt caught in the back field it's Pauling and he's going to run out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage wanted no part of contact on that play inside give now from the shotgun and that run produces a decent gain I'll take that every single time offensive line does a nice job up front this back's vision and ability to get positive yards by lowering his pads on full display right there looking to throw it's van DK and he's got it the tackle is made but there's a flag on the field see what that's [Applause] about costly hold nullifies the play backs him up 10 yards third down play looking for a fresh set of downs offense looking to throw the ball makes the grab it's maloi defense able to stop him it's fourth down now you know it's third down as a quarterback you're sitting there back in the pocket trying to find a matchup that you like pretty much everything taken away I like his thought to get it to the running back cuz he's a talented gifted player but he just could not wiggle free to pick up the first down watching this guy in pregame he has got a strong leg I'm surprised here he's able to put three points up here for the [Music] offense so after the field goal the kicker out there again to boot it away he's going to return it from Deep In The End Zone he's brought down at the 16 would have been better off leaving it in the end zone for a touch back and here comes the Colorado offense back out on the field they are really in a hole here and that turnover in the last possession did not help see that's how you limit what an offense wants to do this time the defense just W the battle up front at the line of scrimmage not giving up any big plays everybody's Gap sound it's really solid defense on that play offense getting set it's second down quarterback sets up looking for an open man it's an out route the catch made they tackle him looks like it's going to be just short of the marker inches away third down this offense could really use it conversion here down multiple scores can they pick up the first on the ground they tackle him behind the line a loss of four the Buffalo will send the front team onto the field and he'll kick it away now for the second time but he's got some space here the returner is brought down and that will do it now for the third period so it's Wisconsin with the lead here Kirk we've reached the end of three time is running out to cut into the lead let's take a look at the game set before we move [Music] on one quarter to go let's see if this sets up as a classic finish and the Wisconsin offense is back out on the field they settled for a field goal in the last possession looking for the End Zone No Doubt here SS a quick throw they bring him down just four of the marker inches away from a first down pass caught and second down now hand off here from the shotgun he's taken down but that's a nice gain they'll spot the ball now at the 35 hey you got to do what you got to do you got to rely on that offensive line in the running game here to be able to secure a victory good call and just keep working that clock and they tackle him but a nice pick up on that running play that's exactly how you want to start this drive working with the lead in the fourth quarter take as much time off this clock as possible that's a great way to get this drive started quarterback pulls the ball it's a keeper that's a nice tackle there by the senior not exactly the outcome this offense was hoping for here on the option I'll give him credit they didn't lose anything so it wasn't a negative play but this kind of play's got to be able to hit big and get down the sidelines for big yards good enough for first down yardage how impressive these guys been up front today big third down know what you need to do get the first down continue to hold on to that lead continue to work clock and get that much closer to securing a victory it's incomplete he dropped the first down pass over the middle so after the incompletion it's second down looking for some space it's maloi I think this defense keeps thinking about them throwing the football and by doing that they're opening up running Lanes good positive yards there by the running back and a handoff as they run the counter play they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one coach is going to take the three points here comes the field goal unit really tough to run a good counter play When the linebackers aren't fooled at all this time they get down in a hurry into the line of scrimmage to make that play knocks this one right through and they add to their lead snap the hold the kick everything there perfect to put three points up here for the offense [Music] They Come Away with three points on the drive and now the kickoff team will Boot It Away return starts from inside the five solid job by the coverage team they bring him down at the 16 and the buffalo's offense is back out there on the field they were held to a quick three and out last time looking to put together a positive drive here first down play call coming up how agressive will it be they'll run it with the draw play they'll tackle him right at the 25 yd line qurs and screens are a great way to counter an effective pass ructure allow those defensive ends to get up field and then hand it off at the last second scanning the field it's Sanders fires it to the Wi out but they can't make the connection balls incomplete well they don't make the completion here the timing seem to be off between a quarterback and receiver but man this defensive coordinator he may want to consider getting more pressure on this quarterback by changing some things up he's got a lot of time back there to throw the ball and eventually that's going to cost you and the buffalos begin a new series here first and 10 he drops back in the gun quick throw to his receiver and it's incomplete just out of the reach of the receiver you know I I like the quarterback's patience here and instead of trying to to force the issue and squeeze the ball into coverage he just decides to just basically throw it away and live for the next down this time a completion brought down but the gain moves the ball all the way to the plus 42 Chris here we are in the fourth quarter these guys are trailing had been a great day but with this quarterback he's as gifted as anybody in the country you never count these guys out and the Buffalo are going to keep this Drive rolling on first down it's play action on the Run he'll let it go that's the third pick tonight thrown by this QB and he'll be taken down but after a good return boy would this quarterback love to have this one back but trying to work themselves back into this game here in the second half and the defense comes up with a big turnover that could be the nail in the coffin [Music] first down here time for one more play before the clock stops for the two-minute warning they'll use that running game trying to bleed the clock here and the defense able to hold him there to a short gain and that's the two-minute warning as this offense tries to work the clock getting closer now to an impressive Victory second down now after that previous play looking for some space it's maloi and they'll stop him after a fairly minimal pickup well this is a huge third down coming up here and here's where that chess match comes to head and for the defense you're desperately need to make a play if they believe they have any chance of coming back to win this game single back takes the hand off they bring him down they tried to run for it on Third and long a cautious play call doesn't work and the badger will have to kick this awayi no fair catch looking to make a return [Applause] here and the Colorado offense is back out on the field they had it going on the last drive but it ended abruptly with the interception let's see what they can do here and it's the senior getting home with the sack a really good job by this defense the quarterback looked to be trying to work through his progressions to find his open receiver but before he knew it he's on his back they're backed up second and long at the [Applause] 19 that's college football you're going to have your highs and lows they had big expectations today Kirk they just fall short couldn't get it done well Chris we sat down and talked to them and you're right they put a lot into this game I think they were very confident that they had everything that it took to be able to win this football game and now they're going to have to put this one behind them learn from the mistakes move forward can still have a great season and that is going to wrap it up we enjoyed this one here for
