2024 NFL Week 1 Power Rankings

I've got the commanders as the team that's the most likely scenario to be this year's Texans you're tuned in to the Ross Tucker football podcast guiding your grid iron Journey none other than your NFL is all right Ross we're going to start our power rankings with 32nd the New England Patriots you know I mean obviously on the even money podcast feic said he thinks that there's a chance they go winless I I don't think that's going to happen because I think jacobe brassette is too good of a quarterback that they won't get a win early in the year but you know they told you what they thought about their team by trading Matthew judon I think they're pretty clearly the worst team in the league we'll see maybe gerod Mayo can surprise us maybe they don't end up 30 second at the end of the year 31st is the Carolina Panthers they have a chance to to move up the list you know it's it's weird jack there aren't that many teams as I was going through this that I thought would be terrible terrible right like I can see the Panthers winning six or seven games I don't know if they'll get that many I would like to think with some of the upgrades that they've made on the offensive line I would like to think Bryce young will be significantly better but I don't know I don't know if he will I mean I still think you have to rank them pretty low I mean they were fortunate to win the two G games they won last year 30th is the Las Vegas Raiders the Raiders you know they have some good pieces they have Devonte Adams they have on the D line Max Crosby and Christian Wilkins and I don't think you know Gardner muu proved what he could win eight or nine games last year Jack with a Colts roster that wasn't overly talented but it just still feels like something is missing with this team and I I think that they're at best a six or seven win team 29th is the Denver Broncos so I think I would have had them a little bit lower 30 or 31 until I saw Bo Knicks looking pretty darn snazzy in Shawn Peyton's offense yes it was the preseason yes it was Vanilla but he's played a lot of football he's smart look like he belongs I think that gives them a chance to not be one of the two or three worst teams like I probably thought that they would be previously 28th is the New York Giants the Gman you know I I think they're the worst team in the division maybe they'll be better than the commanders uh we'll see you just look at their skill position players it's very uninspiring they need Malik neighbors to be one of the best receivers in the league immediately let's hope their offensive line would be better it would be hard for them to be much worse than they were a year ago I do think their dline with Dexter Lawrence Tibido and Brian burn that gives them a chance but they got to have leads you know like they can't be falling behind in games so teams can run right am they got to have leads that those guys can tee off on opposing quarterbacks 27th is the Tennessee Titans so I like what the Titans did this year I I I wonder how much of this was because they wanted to see what they had in will Levis so bringing in guys like Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd and drafting a left tackle and JC leam and how much of it is Rand carthon realizes okay it's year two for me we got rid of the head coach if things are really ugly again this year it's probably it might be me I might be out so I better spend some of this money what what before I'm out of here because he spent a lot of dough I would say for a team that's still not projected to be very good 26th is the Arizona Cardinals so I think you know this Jack I don't know if the rest of listeners do I got more NFL games this year for CBS I'm on the sixth crew with Tom McCarthy and Jay FY that includes being in the booth for the Buffalo Bills home opener on Sunday they host the Arizona Cardinals and by the way I I think I post this to social I'll do it again I will be uh doing a watch party at Danny's in Orchard Park for leat blue light from 7 to 9:30 on Thursday for that Ravens Chiefs game so anybody even in the vicinity of Western New York I'd love to meet you guys in person take a picture watch some of the Chiefs Ravens with you I think the Cardinals will be improved the question is how improved they had a lot of the same guys they had last year I think what they're hoping is that Marvin Harrison Jr and having a healthy Kyler Murray who now has some games in the system under their belt that that will be their biggest reason for improvement going into this year I think they will I think they'll win a couple more games than they did did last year 25th is the New Orleans Saints what do you thinking there so the main concern is primarily just the offensive line for me down there right now and the potential that if they get off to a slow start I I mean Dennis Allen knows that he probably needs to make the playoffs this year right so they get off to a slow start he's got to think I either got to keep battling to make the playoffs or maybe I put in Spencer Rattler and kind of prove I've got a the Young quarterback that can win games moving forward I I that that'll be interesting they still have some a lot of good veteran players you know the laor the Demario Davis the cam Jordans but doesn't feel like enough 24th is the Minnesota Vikings the Minnesota Vikings so I just for for me I I can't do it with Sam darnold you know and I'm not saying he was in a great situation with the Jets or the Panthers or whatever but especially in that Division I think the Vikings are the worst team in that Division and I think he's had a lot of opportunities to prove himself I think he's a 500 quarterback at best and I'm not sure the Vikings get there 23rd is the Seattle Seahawks so the issues there for me right now are uh really oine dline I would say as much as anything else for Seattle o line dline are the concerns I have not not good position groups to have concerns right if those guys are just average then they got enough skill guys they got enough guys in the secondary that they could be frisky 22nd is the Indianapolis Colts so they're one of the teams I think has the potential to really move up I got a lot of respect for their head coach and Shane styken and they had a solid year last year even with Gardener msho the question really is Anthony Richardson he didn't get a lot of experience last year so how many mistakes is he going to make early in this year how much of an up and down season is it for Richardson we've got the Washington commanders coming at 21st that's probably higher than a lot of other people but that's how I feel about Jaden Daniels and Dan Quinn to a lesser extent I'm actually going to write this in my column for the 3 third team Jack I write a column for the 33rd team I don't know two or three times a month just because I like writing like the only time I feel like I'm using my Princeton if that makes sense and so I've got the commanders as the team that's the most likely scenario to be this year's Texans I don't think they will be I think it's really hard to do what the Texans did last year with a rookie quarterback but they've got you know Jaden Daniels they've got the enthusiastic defensive-minded head coach like demo Ryan with Dan Quinn I think they've got a shot to potentially do something um I I think they' got a chance to Buccaneers probably a little bit low in some people's mind I know they won the division last year I I think it was a weak Division I think the loss of Canalis as the OC will hurt I still think they're the second best team in that Division and that they'll get around eight wins again something like that I mean there's a lot of teams that feel like they're eight or nine win teams to me in this in this next 10 I almost could say Jack got the Pittsburgh Steelers at 19th so they feel like an eight or nine win team right I mean which I think is interesting because if you're a Steelers fan you're probably starting to feel like every year the Steelers are eight or n Win team and you're almost kind of getting sick of it I would just say to you I understand that mindset however like they keep making the playoffs and I they win 10 games last year with Kenny picket and Mason Rudolph and make the playoffs it's pretty impressive actually what they've been able to do with their quarterbacks I think you're still in a situation where you don't have a top 15 quarterback so to have winning seasons without a t top 15 quarterback is good 18th is the Los Angeles Chargers s San Diego Super Chargers San Diego charers Go Chargers go so I'm giving them a little bit of benefit the doubt they have some really talented guys Harbaugh's track record is pretty darn good so is Greg Roman as long as Herbert's healthy and they got a pretty good old line I think they get to nine wins you know the issue will be their health they can seemly never stay healthy and obviously the receiver position is a concern in today's day and age of the NFL 17th is the Jacksonville Jaguars so they're another team that's tough to figure out I think they started out last year eight and three and then didn't make the playoffs I mean how does that happen that's not good at all they keep spending money I mean they paid uh Josh I think it's Joshua Allen Hines now maybe um I I I lose track sometimes I'll know that when I do a Jaguars game this year I think they're better than the way they finished last year and I I think their offensive line will be better with the addition of Mitch Morse I have faith in Peterson as a coach I think the Jags will be a little bit improved and maybe get to nine or 10 wins the halfway point we got the Chicago Bears at 16 so the Bears are an eight or n Win team I know I've been saying that a lot but that's that's where we are in the power rankings I think the expectation for them might be a little bit High considering they have a rookie quarterback and they're not as good as the Lions and the Packers I mean I think I have lions and Packers I don't want to I don't want to review but I have lions and Packers both in the top five in the NFL so that's tough for the Bears how many of those games are going to win one out of four maybe so that makes it tough and I think they'll lose a game or two because of Caleb Williams making rookie mistakes that's okay though that's part of the process even their owner George MC is telling people to have some patience 15th we've got the Atlanta Falcons I have them winning that division you know the moves for the safety Justin Simmons and Matthew judon were significant really significant absolutely love the fact that they're being aggressive there I think they're pretty clearly the most talented team in the division now we'll see whether or not they can get it done for 14th is the New York Jets and every week Jack we're going to highlight whichever team moved up the most of my rankings well guess what you know the last ranking was the last ranking last year and so it's the Jets by far I think they were 29th or 30th in the last ranking last year my biggest upgrade this week is the New York Jets obvious reasons right Aaron Rogers that's the big one we'll see what happens if and when they get Hassan reck on the team they need him desperately for that edge rusher group and I don't know that any of us really know what to expect with Aaron roggers this year is he a top five quarterback again I tend to doubt that top 10 seems pretty reasonable top 15 you would think for sure but even if he's just top 15 that's way way better than the Jets have had in a long long time and probably good enough for them to win double digit games that's why the Jets are my biggest upgrade you should upgrade your is this the year they get over the hump you know I think the concern for me right now is defense and in particular defensive line right chub Jaylen Phillips coming back from injuries they lose Christian wilin that's that's the concern with those guys 12th is the Dallas Cowboys how about them Cowboys boys so uh I'd be surprised they don't take a step back now maybe I have them taking too much of a step back and maybe The Replacements at Center and left tackle and running back and dline will be better than I think that they are but just feels like there's a lot of a lot of drama there and a lot of downgrades quite frankly maybe I'll be wrong I I hope for Cowboys fans I am wrong about those positions but it's hard to argue it's hard to make an argument for how and where they got better the 11th team is the Los Angeles r camps so impressed by what they did last year they were one of my biggest surprises last year CH McVey can flat out coach I don't think there'll be as much of a surprise this year I think people know that they're good they kind of double down on the o line they've been a little bit beat up though in Camp that's something to watch early in the season we enter a top 10 with the Cleveland Browns claiming the 10th spot really hard team to place you know if if you tell me Deshawn Watson is a top 10 or top 15 quarterback they're probably a top six team but he hasn't shown that in a while so I don't really know where to put them yes they made the playoffs with flacko but quite frankly Flaco was playing better than deshun Watson's played since he's been back in Cleveland so uh that's one I'll have a lot more information on as we get a little bit further down the line ninth is the Cincinnati Bengals so we'll see what happens to Jamar Chas still not practicing and the Bengals are like they're they're not the type to really budge a lot in these situations so this will be fascinating you would think though like they're at the stage like Mike Brown is not a young guy anymore You' think he'd be at the stage where he wants to try to win a Super Bowl once and he they're going to sign Jamar Chase right like you have to so do it now eighth Houston Texans so the Texans it would not Shock me if they made the Super Bowl it would not that they they feel like a young talented team that believes in their quarterback poised to maybe even take another step they're now in the mix in my mind with the bills and the Ravens and all these other teams that have been battling it out with the Chiefs the last few years Bengals seventh is the Buffalo Bills so I think in in recent years they've started higher they do have a little few more questions right uh receiver for sure you know now Matt Milano's hurt for a while new safeties so they they've got some they've got some more I would say they go into the season with more questions than they've had in recent years sixth is the Baltimore Ravens how about the fact that Thursday night it's my number six team against my number one team and Friday night it's my number five team against my number four team I mean that's pretty awesome Ravens uh biggest concern to me right now is probably the o line you know losing three veteran starters on the offensive line we'll see if these other guys can step up Fifth is the Packers they're so good I I mean they're good they're talented I would say my biggest question there is probably Jeff Halley the new D coordinator who came over from Boston College where he was the head coach I'm curious to see what Halley can do with with the Packers on that side of the the ball they they've always had more Talent than production there fourth is the Philadelphia Eagles e a g l e s Eagles so still have a very good roster you know ironically I would say my biggest question marks for them o line and dline Jack when's the last time we said that about the Eagles o line and dline it's o line depth and the starting Right Guard and then dline it's really everywhere I know they have good players I'm not sure they have great players third is Detroit Lions yeah I got Lions three ners two Chiefs won Lions I would not be surprised if they went to the Super Bowl and win it they have that belief now they took big steps last year the next step is always the hardest the ners still have their issue with Trent Williams and you know for the Niners and Chiefs they're in the same boat where I got to put them one too but they've played a lot of playoff football in recent years and you just wonder how they're going to hold up physically with all of these
