IOWA'S NEWS LEADER. IT IS NOW 449. WE EXPERIENCE THE HEAT OF YESTERDAY. HOW DOES TODAY COMPARE WITH WHAT WE EXPERIENCED YESTERDAY? JOHN, ON THIS WEATHER IMPACT DAY FOR MOST OF THE STATE? ERIC IT IS GOING TO BE THE TEMPERATURES ARE GOING TO BE A LITTLE BIT LOWER. I CAN'T QUITE CALL THEM COOLER BECAUSE IT'S STILL GOING TO BE HOT AND HUMID. THAT IS STILL GOING TO CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE DAY, BUT IT'S NOT GOING TO BE AS WIDESPREAD HEAT AND AS HOT AS WHAT WE HAD YESTERDAY. ISOLATED STORM CHANCES. THIS MORNING. MORE STORM CHANCES RETURN LATER THIS WEEK. RIGHT NOW, ZOOMING IN ON WHERE THOSE STORMS ARE CURRENTLY, NOTICE IT'S FAIRLY ISOLATED. MOST OF THE ACTIVITY FURTHER TO THE NORTH, BUT SOME ISOLATED STUFF FURTHER OFF TO THE WEST RIGHT NOW OVER RED OAK MAKING ITS WAY TOWARDS ATLANTIC, COULD BE LOOKING AT RAINFALL PICKING UP THERE HERE OVER THE NEXT HALF HOUR OR SO AND EVEN FURTHER WEST. SO THAT CLUSTER OF SOME OF THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IN THAT DIRECTION. BUT RIGHT NOW, MORE IMPRESSIVE CLUSTERS OF THUNDERSTORMS RIGHT WEST OF FORT DODGE ENTERING WEBSTER COUNTY AND THEN EVEN FURTHER NORTH OVER ALGONA, RIGHT NOW. AND THIS IS THE VIEW WE'VE EVEN SEEN SOME LIGHTNING OFF IN THE DISTANCE. SOME RUMBLES OF THUNDER IS WHAT YOU CAN WAKE UP TO IN KOSSUTH COUNTY AS WELL. BUT WE'RE NOT DEALING WITH ANY OF THIS SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AS WE START THINGS OFF THIS MORNING, HOUR BY HOUR, WE'RE GOING TO HOLD ON TO THESE RAIN CHANCES. IT'S GOING TO BE STILL FAIRLY ISOLATED AS WE GO THROUGHOUT THE MORNING AND INTO THE AFTERNOON. MORE CLOUDS INTO THE MIX AS WELL. BY 5:00 WE ARE EXPECTING A LITTLE BIT MORE OF THE THUNDER AND LIGHTNING ACTIVITY. THE THUNDERSTORMS STARTING TO PICK UP, MAINLY SOUTHEAST OF THE METRO WHERE IT IS GOING TO BE THE HOTTEST TODAY, AND THEN AS WE GET DEEPER INTO THIS EVENING, WE'RE GOING TO LOSE THOSE BUT STILL LINGER MORE OF THE THUNDERSTORM AND RAIN CHANCES AS WE GO OVERNIGHT TONIGHT, TALKING AROUND AND AFTER MIDNIGHT AND THEN TAPERING THAT OFF AS WE GO THROUGH LATER WEDNESDAY MORNING. STILL COULD BE LOOKING AT SOME WET ROAD CONDITIONS AS WE START OFF OUR WEDNESDAY MORNING COMMUTE, BUT THEN WE DRY THINGS OUT FOR THE REST OF WEDNESDAY AND WE'RE GOING TO SEE MORE SUNSHINE INTO THE MIX AS WELL. LESS CLOUD COVER THAN WHAT WE'RE EXPECTING FOR TODAY. BUT THEN AS WE JUMP INTO THURSDAY, A COLD FRONT IS GOING TO BE PASSING OVER US AND THAT WILL BRING ANOTHER ROUND OF WIDESPREAD THUNDERSTORMS STARTS TO PICK UP IN THE AFTERNOON, BUT MAINLY IN THE EVENING. THAT'S WHEN WE'LL REALLY SEE THE BULK OF THE ACTIVITY PASS OVER US, AND THEN THAT'S GOING TO LEAD TO MORE THUNDERSTORMS. BUT IT IS GOING TO FINALLY BRING COOLER TEMPERATURES. THE HEAT INDEX FORECAST NOTICE WE'RE SEEING A LOT MORE 90S THAN THE TRIPLE DIGITS LIKE WE SAW YESTERDAY. BUT STILL FURTHER EAST, AND ESPECIALLY TO THE SOUTHEAST OF THE METRO, WE ARE GOING TO BE EXPECTING THE TRIPLE DIGITS IN THAT ONE 100 TO 110 RANGE POSSIBLE. THE GOOD NEWS IS WEDNESDAY, A VAST IMPROVEMENT STATEWIDE. WE'RE GOING TO BE LOOKING AT 90S AND 80S FOR THE HEAT INDEX VALUES AT THE PEAK, SO THAT HEAT AND HUMIDITY IS GOING TO BE DIALING DOWN TOMORROW. TODAY IS STILL GOING TO BE STICKING AROUND FOR PARTS OF THE STATE THURSDAY. THOSE ROUNDS OF STORMS AS THAT COLD FRONT PASSES OVER US. AND THEN WE REALLY SEE THAT COMFORTABLE AIR MOVE RIGHT BACK IN. WE ARE GOING TO HAVE THAT COOL DOWN JUST IN TIME FOR YOUR HOLIDAY WEEKEND.
