e e e for welcome to what should be a fantastic flose to the MAC football season as we Crown a champion in the MAC Conference Championship Game this is a surprising match up the proverbial David versus goath a ranked versus an unranked team an opportunity to Spring a major upset and build a legacy as we'll see a squad from the M the Bowling Green Falcons taking on the winners of 12 straight the Ohio podcast for EA Sports college football I'm Chris fer joined here in the booth by Kirk herb Street Kirk let's get to the action on the field [Music] [Music] [Applause] kickoff team out there getting ready and this is it the battle for the conference championship trophy he's going to bring it out of the End Zone from a couple yards deep be tackled at the 17 strong job by the coverage team entering accessibility screen you have 20 options menu narration option is set to office selected first down play call how aggressive will it [Applause] be look come out throwing here to start the drive makes a quick grab breaks a tackle on the play and makes a decent game man isn't it fun to watch running backs who can add that Dimension to the passing game they're so dangerous because once they catch the football they're operating in much more open space than they would be if they're just getting a hand off and it really tests the linebacker's ability to cover out in space receiver in motion now quarterback looking to throw it on second down receiver looks it in it's complete brought down at the 33 that's good enough to move the sticks you call Quick out on third down I think that tells you the confidence you have in a quarterback to be able to make that throw and on top of that what surprised the defense would give that kind of cushion to be able to give him room to pick up that first down big guys up front lined up it's first down the tight end goes in motion before the snap they'll try the ground game here with the running back he's found some room with the 45 tackle but first down nothing better than an offense on first down to be able to pick up big positive yards like that you can either keep giving it to the back or it can set up play action and get the defense to come up to the line of scrimmage and you can throw it over top of them offense will set up on First and 10 here's the snap looking to throw catch made on the left side they make the tackle there but a penalty marker is on the field let's see what that's about ouch late contact with the quarterback an obvious [Applause] call Fresh set it Downs for the offense first down come on here's the snap quarterback looking to throw beautiful catch right near the sideline gets the foot down well this is a beautiful play When the timing is right as we see right here the receiver's got to do a good job of working his way back to the football as the quarterback is throwing it the timing here is impeccable and it's intercepted right near the goal line follows the pick with a nice return before for finally being brought down well here it is opening drive in the game we're just trying to find that Rhythm run the ball couple passes and this one backfires po decision by the quarterback that's 100% on him and this defense now gives their own offense great field position here to get points on the [Music] board first down here for this offense and the wi out goes in motion they flip it to him on the Jet Sweep and he crosses the 30 oh and he breaks free it's a foot race inside the 20 no stopping him takes it all way touchdown Bobcats simple throw all the yards after the catch explosive play by the receiver score just a dynamic athletic playmaker is simple as you said Chris just throw him the football he makes a catch and then all the fireworks are after The Catch and this defense just unable to Coral to try to add the lead now with the p p is good so it's seven [Music] nothing getting set to kick the ball off now [Music] he's going to bring this out a few yards Deep In The End Zone be tackled at the 17 strong job by the coverage team here comes the Bowling Green offense back out on the field the last possession ended in a dreaded Red Zone interception let's see if they can bounce back from that costly error he moves the ball across the 20 to the 22 these quarterbacks today in the college game are so athletic they can beat you with their arm obviously just when you think you have them figured out they tuck the ball and go I'd expect this defense to put in a spy keep this quarterback from running second down they're going to throw it fires it on the move he makes the grab he bring him down but he makes the four yd line that's a solid game Chris more we watch these spread offenses attack in today's game it's not just about the vertical shots with the taller receivers on the outside defense are challenged even more by those smaller slot receivers in their quickness in space a pop pass on the Jet Sweep getting close to Midfield now they bring him down to the the 47 you a lot of times these types of plays either go for nothing or they can go for a huge chunk of yards here they do a nice job of getting it to the outside turning it up field and ended up getting a nice gain out of it got it a game makes it second and medium let go from the shotgun it's a handoff he's wrapped up nicely there by the Freshman you know in the era that we live in right now everybody wants to spread the field round try to create space try to create one-on-one matchups and the defense has countered over the years by trying to play out wide but here's a great example the defense has the ability to play wide but still be solid at the line of scrimmage and not give up big run plays tackled inside the 40 and it's good enough for a first down you know offensive linemen are just a certain bre they're always going to do their job no matter who's back there carrying the ball I tell you what they have a little bit more confidence when the person that's carrying the ball can break off some big time runs that makes him block just a little bit harder knowing what he's potentially capable of [Applause] doing and he's brought down but not before he gets first down yardage boy how about that play Chris that thing just opened up the back shot through there with great acceleration what a pickup there on first down line get set up it's a first down play and he'll set up to throw lets it Go quickly finds a man downfield that's a big gain to the right the stop made at the five offens will have first and goal now Chris how about the offensive balance these last couple plays we're seeing from these guys not only are they balance but the explosiveness a big run followed up by a big play through the air and puts a lot of pressure on the defense tackled behind the line it's a loss of two well if somebody talks about a play being blown up this is a great example of that that's exhibit a for how to be physical on defense okay ready SW off the loss it's second and goal from the [Applause] seven SS a quick throw touchdown bowling breed strong game by this quarterback oh just outstanding execution here by this offense the offensive line gives the quarterback time oh and it's blocked picked up by the offense this is a live ball [Applause] so after his P was blocked the kicker is out there again to boot it away Fields it inside the 5 yd line and he stopped at the 19 good job by the coverage team here comes the Ohio offense back out on the field it was a oneplay touchdown drive through the air last time the defense makees some [Applause] adjustments the shotgun handoff here they've got him but he picks up eight yards sets up a nice second and two great job by the offensive line here opening up some holes and giving the running back room to run on first down plays like this can open up the playbook for the play caller allow him to make that defense think are they going to run maybe play action maybe throw the ball down field moves the ball out across the 30 and that's good for a first down [Music] [Applause] we and the quarterback looking to make a play through the air Dall caught by the running back they get him down quickly not much of a gain on that completion made the catch but he was surrounded not much room to run they did a really good job that time of leveraging him out in space I I thought he might have a chance to be able to shake loose because he is so elusive but defense as you said did a really good job in the open field surrounding him just nowhere for him to go to pick up any more positive yards out of the shotgun he'll hand it off they've got him down out near the 40 hey nice RPO here by the offense defense is going to sit back make it easy on the quarterback hand it off up the middle nice solid game stay ahead of the chains it's third down for the offense GRE 25 [Applause] quarterback adjusting now to the defense Yankee blue Yankee blue arrow Terrier going to pick up the third and short through the air receiver makes the grab hey I don't blame the defense here in all Chris for bringing the blitz it's third down and short got to get pressure on the quarterback but you got to cap to this quarterback I think he was anticipating the blitz so he's able to get the ball out of his hands quickly and pick up the first down they bring him down but a solid gain there on first down looks to be just inches short of the marker really nice throw here the slot receiver and I love the quickness that he has after the catch he's essentially a running back playing at that slot position that's how dangerous he is after he makes a catch and they'll give it to the back he's taken down but that's a nice gain they'll spot the ball now at the 35 how about the offensive line here just a hat on a hat opening up just enough room for the back to squeeze through there for a nice game wild cat lining up here on First and [Applause] 10 there's the snap they'll set up to throw CAU over the middle it's Williams but a huge Collision blow delivered there by the linebacker well this is what coaches love to see a quarterback with the ability to read the defense properly and then just get it to the open man sometimes it sounds simple but it's tough to execute this time we have good recognition by the quarterback then he gets it down to the tight end you can see what he can do after the [Applause] catch takes the hand off looking to throw cack looks to his right and finds his man and he's brought down but he does have enough for the first down this defense has got to do a better job in coverage if they want to get off the field anytime soon you keep defending like that and this offense would have 50 on you by the end of this game first down looking to throw the ball here's a screen pass of the running back and bring him down but the back able to pick up some decent yardage in that screen the defense is so caught up in this guy running the football in this drive they forgot to defend him coming out of the back field nice positive play here back to throw again and that one's picked off what a play not much room in that return tackled at the 16 but an important takeway for this defense when you get this close to the end zone you've got to be able to come away with points at the very least a field goal they got to be scratching their heads and in the second half this play right here doesn't come back to B fights through a tackle they get the senior to the ground but it's a nice run there was a nice job up front by the offensive line but get the running back and assist setting those blocks up before he's able to get down ffield for the first [Music] [Applause] down see what the call is on on First and 10 the DBS right near the line now show him pressed coverage takes a shot as he gets the pass off it's a huge game he's got it inside the 30 what an electric play suddenly they move into position down to the 24 that is great arm strength and accuracy by this quarterback let's not forget the wide receiver's job of bringing it in for that big game the drive stays alive with that first down completion tight end goes in motion before this snap linebacker shifting around now picks up three yards so second and seven been a defensive coordinator this week all week telling us about Gap Integrity not giving this running back any creases at all really sound defense on that play So we reach the two-minute warning as this offense tries to take the lead here before halftime up offense getting set up here's second down come on set here's the snap quarterback drops back grab down the middle it's Harris and the game just good enough for a first down we'll get to the line here in the no hle [Music] [Music] looking to throw it from the Red Zone trying to extend the play and it's incomplete in the very back of the end zone heads up move by the head coach using that challenge officials will reverse the call on the field after taking a closer look and they get set now to try the pat connects on the pat so it's a 13 s game [Music] pickoff team is on the field let's see if we give the returner a chance to bring this one back he'll return it from inside the [Applause] five the Ohio offense back out there now now well it's been an entertaining first half not much time remaining to cut into this lead looking to throw it on first down and it's incomplete just out of the reach of the receiver you know I I like the quarterback's patience here and instead of trying to force the issue and squeeze the ball into coverage he just decides to just basically throw it away and live for the next down incomplete so it's second down and 10 they'll change the pre-nap look now looking to pass here on second down it's incomplete he took a hit as he threw the football and it brings up a third down well it's pretty simple the defensive line does a great job of getting after the quarterback and forcing him into that incompletion not going to be easy here backed up a long way to go for a first [Music] down and a timeout is called important stage late here in the second quarter [Applause] they're backed up here trying to make something happen on Third and [Applause] long dropping back he going to throw for the first down caught over the middle it's Williams they bring him down but the junior quarterback showing the [Music] Canon a a [Applause] Timber on First and 10 looking to throw here's a Target and it's complete they make the tackle but that pass creates a solid game the offense will quickly spend a timeout here after the play [Applause] second down play coming up for this offense go they're moving the receiver now before the snap they'll run it from the gun breaks loose at the 45 breaks into the clear it's a Sprint takes it all the way to the house touchdown Ohio what a long run for the touchdown I don't know if this defense was caught sleeping or walking in mud I can't pick which one maybe it's both because the running back just went right by them so easily for the big game and a big time score and they'll set up with a [Music] p8 oh he missed it it's no good and the score remains tied wow so the offense gets momentum scoring before halftime now the kick up we'll see if the defense can get his top and preserve that momentum and he's going to bring this out from a couple yards Deep In The End Zone solid coverage there they get him at the 15 that's where the offense will take over and the Falcons offense is back out there now you have a shootout developing here each offense scoring touchdown on their last possession he's on the Run launches deep the catch is made for a huge pickup what a pitch and catch by the quarterback and receiver for a big gain for this [Music] offense this one play their just shy of Midfield now jackit pre snap motion from the receiver here comes a first down pass attempt looking for the wide out oh it's picked off what a play going the other way can they catch him they finally bring him down great defensive play but there's a flag on the field let's see if the takeaway stands wow a great play on the interception but that's going to be wiped out on a roughing the passer penalty first and 10 play coming up pre- snap motion from the offense first down looking to throw the football running out of time in the pocket and it's incomplete even in a first down throw he was under some heavy pressure man you got to love this if you're defensive coordinator it's all about affecting the quarterback and getting pressure on him this time they got to him and forced that in complet offense facing a second and [Applause] 10 pass is caught right near the sideline What A Catch does get the foot down when the defensive coordinator accounting for everybody except the tie in he couldn't have been any more wide open on that play nice gain down field by the big man the offense looking to be efficient here not much time remaining before the end of the half off the play fake on first down and he'll Loft it to the end zone touchdown Bowling Green this passing game is still on fire for Q play quarterback how about appreciating a receiver that runs his routes that precisely CH it's not just his route running it's the Chemistry Between the quarterback and the receiver that really I think is unique they put so much time into this in the off season by the time they get the Saturdays you can close your eyes and make your throw that's exactly what we saw right there [Applause] now the try for two we go there's the snap looking to throw the ball and it's picked off in the end [Applause] zone so an important touchdown just before half time not much time for the opposing offense to try to answer before the break and that kick will just bound into the end zone first half p with just 7even seconds remaining for this first half play and the quarterback tucks it and takes off as a design run they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one the offense calls a timeout here that's their third and final of the half looks like the final play of the half coming [Applause] up quick pass here comes a Jet Sweep he make the tackle As Time expires that'll do it for the first half M's going to WRA up the first half here let's kick it now to Kevin Connor with our halftime update 1 the kickoff team on the field now as they get set to send this one away Fields it just outside the goal line and he stopped at the 19 good job by the coverage team here comes the Bobcats offense back out there [Applause] Timber and looking to throw now on first down it's the running back in the flat solid game there moves the ball out to the 32 Bo it's so easy to get caught up under the receivers and a quarterback and your eyes get lost forget about the running back nice catch and a first down for this offense first down play call coming up how aggressive will it [Applause] be and the ball is handed off out of the shotgun they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one that's a great Play All Around by this defense your first level Defenders hold their own at the point of attack allowing the second and third level players to roam free and make the tackle close to the line of scrimmage important second down play coming up [Applause] easy they'll hand it off and he's tackled right at the 40 yd line man you know the back gets a lot of the attention here and he's a good back I'd love to see that offensive line win the battle theine L of scrimage the offense now looking at a third and short in their own 40 trying to keep this drive [Applause] going2 looking to pick up the first down through the air receiver makes the catch not much after the catch but it is good enough for a first down and the Bobcats pick up enough yardage to move the sticks [Applause] keep it on the ground there's the handoff run it up the middle but stuff for no game just great job by this defense defending this RPO they sat back and then they overc committed to stop the run game and it works out looks like QB is changing the play at the [Applause] line they look to throw it here on on second down grab down the middle it's Williams tackle made but it's a huge gain all the way to the 33 yd line just a good job of spreading the we making sure everybody's getting their touches when you do that the defense can't lock in on one guy or two guys make them have to be aware of everybody and allows you to continue to spread the ball around and spread the field making it tougher for this defense keeping an on the ground here defense makes the stop after a 5yd game so second and five I know this defense worked very hard at halftime to come up with answers on how to try to slow down this running back after the big first half and he's already at it again easy quarterback looking to pass here on second down quick throw complete to the tight end defense reacts quickly a very short gain on the Play Boy that's pretty good coverage here by this defense not much of a window to throw this ball into but the quarterback's accuracy and the size of the tight end picks up a nice game they flip it to him on the Jet Sweep tackle made but there's a flag down on the field see if the offense can overcome that holding penalty [Applause] eighth play of the drive coming up but a long way to go on third [Applause] down dropping back he going to throw for the first down and he finds a wide open receiver they forgot about him downfield they're not going to get him he's in touchdown bobat this guy can do it all we've seen him go behind coverage and make plays down field we can see him catch the ball underneath just like this and when he catches a football he is so dangerous after the catch this one leads him into the end zone for his six points now the try here for the extra point extra point puts him in front by one here's the kickoff team let's see if they give the returner opport to bring this back and here's the return from inside the five and he stopped at the 20 tried to make something happen but that's good coverage there Bowling Green offense retakes the field now they reached the end zone the last time out trying to do the same thing here there a pre- snap movement Back In Motion looks to his left and makes the completion defense surrounds him just a short gain on that completion that's the fullback making the catch that was not a big concern for this defense when they built the game plan but maybe they have to shift the focus yeah they have to cuz this guy's athletic enough to be able to make that catch this this guy pounds those shoulders in to make blocks play after play I think it's very nice to be able to see him finally show what he can do catching a ball like this short completion there second down coming up they snap it quarterback looking to throw the ball it's picked off he tried to fire the ball into a tight window as a short return what the pink wipes out of scoring threat and sets up the offense at the 33 what great Hands by the defender to take that ball away and pretty much steal it from the intended receiver I don't know if I'd be targeting that Defender very many more [Music] times quarterback checks the defensive look make some adjustments easy throw to a wide open receiver downfield they could not stop him he's in touchdown Ohio this passing game is on fire the quarterback cannot be stopped with the conference Championship on the line he's delivering yeah he's in syn right now with his wide receivers but man my attention seems to be more on the defense what in the world are they thinking you can't just allow this quarterback to sit back there and throw you've got to be able to put pressure on him or he's going to continue to throw touchdown after touchdown P makes it an eight-point game here's the kickoff team Now set to boot this one away he's going to try for a return from a couple yards Deep In The End Zone they stop him at the 11 not good field position to start the drive [Applause] here comes the Bowling Green offense back out on the field the last possession ended in an interception let's see if they continue to trust this quarterback in the passing game a solid 8yd gain brings up a second and two I tell you to be able to pick up a nice gain like that those offensive linemen have to SU aain their blocks gave them a chance in a really nice game second down after that run on the previous play they try to run it with the option defense all over the option plate quarterback couldn't even get the pitch [Music] off interesting play call here third and short inside their own 20 they want to get this drive going or a punt could give the opponents excellent field position hit as he releases it and the pass ball is incomplete kind of a fine line here Chris for me when it comes to throwing a screen pass you don't want to throw it too early obviously and the defense reacts quickly and can sniff it out and you definitely don't want to throw it too late and potentially get sacked you got to make sure it hits just right for this play to work [Applause] here's a serious gamble folks coach going for it backed up near his own End Zone moving the receiver around pre snap trying for a fourth down completion they can't connect a costly turnover on Downs oh my gosh a to pass here on this fourth down play everything was perfect the execution is there the route is nice the ball is on the money all he has to do is catch it and it's a first down and he drops it this one could come back to Haun and here's the handoff got space looking for the End Zone here and he runs it in for the score touchdown Bob K I think we're starting to kind of see a theme here Chris today that's his second touchdown the offensive line doing their job and he's doing an outstanding job of just leaving the defense finding the hole and being able to pick up big yards and touchdowns and it's no good he missed the extra point kickoff team has come on the field now to send this one away Turner looking to make a play here and he stopped at the 19 good job by the coverage [Music] team and the Falcons offense is back out there now last time out there they got stopped on fourth down but it didn't cost him anything let's see what the mindset is here poers through I know the toss play begins with the guy taking the snap he turns it around he flips it to the runner but where the real Intrigue is is can they set the edge as an offense whether it's an offensive tackle a tight end in that same direction that where they want to run the ball CU if they can do that you get the result you want just like this if you don't often times players blown up right at the line of screen BR go BR go [Applause] so here we go first play of the quarter the offense has a first down here's the snap he's looking to throw he lets it go on the move it's complete what a grab near the sideline and a big game before he goes out of bounds the offense keeps churning gets a fresh set of downs defenses all around the country got to do a better job of keeping an eye on these little guys from the slot they can dismantle a defense with their speed and quickness in the open space bringing pressure using his legs here and the defense Smothers him for no gain the offense going with the hurry up they tackle him behind the line a loss of four Chris great job here by this defense they're trying to bounce this to the outside take advantage of his speed in the back field but no chance at all the defensive speed ability to diagnose the play blows it [Music] up now it's third and long for this offense fo ball right at Midfield go [Applause] and the quarterback dropping back fires it to the wide out can't hold on good defensive play brings up a fourth down well that's not what you want to see as an offense when you're trailing late in a football game an incompletion on third down and long it's a bit of a risk but with that clock looking the way it looks right now I think you got to go for it here and hope to convert on Fourth and long so down by multiple possessions here the offense will try to convert here on fourth down 4 [Applause] quarterback looking to connect with the receiver here catch made down inside the 20 they've got him but they convert on fourth down and the drive keeps [Music] going from inside the Red Zone they're looking to throw they've got him but he picks up eight yds sets up a nice second and two no huddle here for the offense [Applause] ginin quarterback wants to throw it on second down and he throws his third interception of the day not much of a return but the pick ends a scoring threat and sets the offense up at the 33 boy would this quarterback love to have this one back they're trying to work themselves back in this game here in the second half and the defense comes up with a big turnover that could breath the nail on the [Applause] call they'll run it out of the shotgun that's a nice wrap up there by the Junior man just complimentary football really in a nutshell they get his football back thanks to their own defense creating that turnover working with the lead like this really it's all but over now the offense is just thinking about running the football and working that [Applause] clock quarterback looking to throw it on second down fires it to the wide out here's a wideopen receiver complete marked out of bounds but it's another big game just Air Attack no problem moving the ball up and down the field today I mean Chris look at this guy you talk about having a great day following the football and leading his team to a nice comfortable lead late in the game and it continues the coach is showing confidence of what he can [Applause] do on First and 10 here looking to throw the ball and they hit him just as he releases the ball it's incomplete [Applause] second down play coming [Applause] up easy quarterback drops back probing the secondary makes a quick catch defense finally gets him down but he showcased the shiftiness on that play Chris it's another nice pick up through the air I I thought they might be really just out to run the football here with the lead but instead they're electing to throw the football different routes quarterbacks in Rhythm really it's almost an extension of their passing [Applause] game on Third and short they'll try to throw for it here here's a fumble way behind the line of scrimmage it's a turn turnover oh what a play by this defense trailing in the second half really the only way you can get back into this game is create turnovers balls on the ground they pounce on it and they get the ball back to their own [Music] [Music] offense so the offense calls a timeout here that's their first of the half [Applause] first down play call how aggressive will it [Applause] be off the play fake looking to throw rolling to his left outside the pocket heads out of bounds after a solid gain more than enough to pick up a first down this just a great job of understanding situational awareness by this quarterback nobody's open down field so instead he decides to buy a little bit of time by scrambling gets out of the pocket and he gets to the sticks and just gets the first down it's a first and 10 play coming up for the offense they go with the ground game here running back takes the hand off see that's how you limit what an offense wants to do this time the defense just won the battle up front at the line of scrimmage not giving up any big plays everybody's Gap sound it's really solid defense on that play getting set here's second Down Easy there's the snap quarterback setting up to throw caught near the goal line they stop him at the four but it sets up this offense with a first and goal here we go first and goal a touchdown here gets him right back into this game [Music] someone on the line there moved a bit early offense gets a 5-yard penalty and the head coach will decide to accept the penalty and take the [Applause] yardage the defense backed up against their own end zone on first down it's play action he's running out of time here breaks free the freshman's able to get home with a sack that's a big sack by this defense here on first down now the offense still has opportunities to rectify this situation but it's not the best way to start a first and goal situation after the big loss on first down it's second and goal backed up Dr back from the shotgun looking for an open man and he's going to fling it deep going for it all here and the pass is incomplete just across the goal line urgency here in the fourth quarter they must cut into this lead it's third down and [Music] goal FES the hand off here looking to throw [Applause] it these are the kind of plays to keep defensive coordinators up at night you spend so much time putting your plan together to stop the pass and then nobody accounts for the quarterback on a [Applause] run up fourth down now time for perhaps one more play before we hit the two-minute [Applause] warning offense looking to throw the ball launching one to the end zone and he's got it touchdown Bolling [Music] Breen now a two-point conversion attempt coming [Music] up and the quarterback drops back looking for an open man oh and it's batted down by the defense great play to deny a touchdown looks like they're lining up to attempt an onside [Applause] kick and the hands te able to recover the football got it here comes the Ohio offense back out on the field can they play keep away here just protect this lead in the final two minutes offense moving receivers around now before the snap they'll just try to run some clock here keeping it on the ground boy is this guy fun to watch or what here we are in the fourth quarter critical down in distances and this guy just churning out yards the way he has most of this game showing a lot of physicality and natural running instincts in space and now it's the defense that calls timeout here trying to get organized and preserve as much clock as possible on the dou second down after that run on the previous [Applause] play inside Gil now from the shotgun take a down but not before he makes the first down yeah I like this call here late in the game like this with the lead nothing too fancy just right up the middle trust that offensive line in this running back and just keep working that clock offense moving to a punch formation linebackers making some adjustments now it's a shotgun run call breaks one tackle gets brought down but picks up some decent yardage and now a timeout Tak by the defense trying to preserve as much clock as possible for their [Applause] offense offense getting set second down play here looks like the quarterback will just take a knee here special seasons have a way of bringing out the best in teams now they can call themselves champions of the map not easy to do but we have wait and see if the committee invites these Mac
