welcome everyone to the home of the war chant aola Renegade and the Florida state seminal a place simply known to some as the dop today a couple of teams getting set to square off in an ACC battle as we'll see the Boston College Eagles taking on the 11th ranked team in the and the Florida state seminal glad to have you with us for EA Sports college football I'm Rees Davis David Po and Jesse Palmer with me in the booth guys we are ready to tee it [Applause] up the seminal will put total Lea and we'll get started on the run from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 so Boston College's offense will take the first swing of the game and as we look out on the field here comes the man the man who makes it all go and that's this quarterback yeah and he's big time that's why he's up for all these Awards he's he's known everybody knows exactly what he brings to the table he can run it he can throw it they're expecting a big day from in this young F that's a really nice play it's impressive once first down and the defense thinks you might be running the football you still can line up you can get some movement at the point of attack and find a little crease for your running back Boston College right back to the line they'll give it to the back just enough there to get it to the 25 a pick up of two and the running back didn't get much there nice job by the defense you can tell they're focused on this running back on this run game being physical getting knockbacks and limiting his carries this crowd full throat spitting the eard drums and letting him know it's going to be a long day oh he's going to try to get it all here fires and picked off couldn't find a ton of room on that return to that small change they take over at the 43 over now after watching that interception I just wonder if this kid's too amped up tonight he was so excited to take the field he thought this was going to be a game that he could stat it up but he's going to have to do a better job tonight with his decision making that is not how you want to start a [Applause] [Music] game looking for a productive play on first [Applause] down takes a hand off and he's going right and they drag him down but not before he picks up the first down I love when players understand situations and they understand where the first down marker is and they understand where I got to get to a lot of people you'll see run north south and try to bounce out wide and make big plays sometimes it's not about making big plays sometimes it's about getting that first down to make sure I get an extra set of downs instead of trying to make those big touchdown runs he get him stopped at the 26 but boy that was an attitude run a pick up of six you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense sixy pickup on first down leaves him with second and four power football with the Run po forward but stopped after a pickup of two to the 24 third coming up this third down play more than manageable from the 24 can the defense Stand Tall a quick completion to the left looking for the first down he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage hey really nice job on defense too understanding the situation it's third down we're fine giving up completions right there we're not giving up the first down we're keeping the football on the ball carrier in front of us and we're tackling the catch awesome job and now youve set up fourth down running for it on fourth down they stop him short of the marker and they'll turn it over on Downs first down here for the offense he waste no time and comes out throwing and the quarterback caught up to and sacked at the 12 man a lot of coaches talk about starting the drive positive and the first play that can get you going the QB just kept backing up and going backwards and that is not the start to the drive they were looking [Applause] [Music] [Applause] for they've got them pened deep in their own end In This Crowd trying to help keep them there he'll try to pop the draw good blocking up front great job following it he's got six to the 18 effective draw plays in the running game really begin with the quarterback the quarterback's got to be a great sail you got to really make the defense think it's pass you keep your eyes focused down field till the last possible second turn around and hand it off and by that point the defensive ends have rushed way up field and there's less bodies for the running backs to have to maneuver around before finally fires the pass intercepted he'll try to take it back and they capitalize not only on the pick but the great return to give the offense tremendous field position this is obviously not a great start for this quarterback here two interceptions already in this game he's got to do a much better job with his decision [Applause] now guys here comes is that Florida State offense back onto the field there have been a couple of missed opportunities for these offenses in the last couple of drives Jesse and I think for this offense here it'd be nice to hit an explosive play be aggressive and really pay off your defense's effort that last drive and instead of having to move the ball down the field consistently and then getting stopped on Fourth Downs you're right create some of those explosives take those deep shots make those big plays the incompletion brings up a second down quick touch pass to the receiver and he finds Some solid space makes a nice game before the defense is able to stop him well and on these little push passes timing is so important you're trying to snap it right as he's getting a full head of steam when he gets the ball he's hitting the outside and David it puts the defense in such a difficult spot you immediately have to be rotating when you see that motion so everybody's got to communicate and kind of bump over that's why offenses love to run it just it makes the defense communicate and see if you can just get him out of a spot defense makes the stop but the chains mov and it's first and goal from the eight well they needed two yards to get that first down that's exactly what they got great job of execution no secret about it just got to be physical get a hat on a hat low man wins all the cliches to get that third down and short they'll keep it on the ground for first and goal he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple they thought maybe they could get the defense flowing the wrong way on the counter but they were not fo get him flowing one way and then maybe hit that outside on the other side right but they didn't even let it get outside they kept it right in the middle of the field did a great job seeing it going and getting it being aggressive you got to find a different way maybe to attack these guys to use their speed against them he'll run it to the middle looking for the End Zone he bullies his way on all the way down to the 5 yd line all right so now you're in this third down situation close to the goal line and it just feels David like they're going to have to throw the football in order to score a touchdown here I like maybe trying to get the quarterback outside on the perimeter and give him a run pass option I like that too getting the quarterback on the move and here's the thing if I get close and I get stopped it's Fourth Down fourth down means go for it that's all that mean pulls it in in the end zone touchdown semal what can I start for this offense the throw game getting working getting the touchdown pass this quarterback getting a little bit of confidence this passing game getting in a rhythm nice start for this offense [Applause] lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the P makes it 7 nothing so that scoring Drive took only six plays and the score comes on a 5yd touchdown pass the kickoff team on the field as they'll send this one away he'll bring it out it's mcgall stopped at the 17 and he's probably second guessing that return first snap of this drive will come from their own 17 they'll throw it on first down caught over the middle it's bod they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first [Applause] down second down and that's the end of the quarter and Florida state has the lead we put one in the books Let's have a look at our game summary heading in the opposite directions now as we Crank It Up in the [Applause] second takes the hand off it's bricho a collision and he stopped at the 26 seven after picking up one oh man there's some big hitting going on in the trenches right now this defense they take a lot of pride in stopping the Run let's keep our eye on them throughout the course of the game and see if they can contain this running attack and the golden eagles are in the hurry up he'll try to pick it up on the ground that one did not go well tackled in the back field for a loss of six well the offensive line had everybody blocked except the defensive end he was able to sneak into the back field and get the tackle for once Boston College lining up to punt this one away he's going to try to flip the field with this [Applause] one good job by the coverage unit to stop the Return Man the simol have it back they'll try to get that offensive spear blaming what a good mix of plays keeping that defense off balance last time David and Reese they don't know if it's run or if it's PS they got them right where they want this defense doesn't know how to react when getting touched in the mouth on that last drive so in this next Drive David I think you keep running the football because that sets up the play action it sets up the RPO game and then you keep this defense guessing now they've moved it just inside the 40 first and 10 from the 39 the give to the back a strong tackle and wrap up from the Junior and sticking to the run I tell you what a lot of teams that are really good are really stle and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running the football you can tell got three on first down it's second and [Applause] seven using the quick game excellent job working through the they're finding a hole in that defense and picking up a first down it is so good for an offense early in the game to get in a rhythm and to start stringing first downs together it makes the game really easy and puts that defense in a situation where they're starting to get tired they want to sub they want to get other guys on the field stringing first downs together like this makes it harder defend they're in the red zone and they'll pass it that's caught it's Brown touchdown no made this snag and stroll his way into the End Zone look it's still early but we have some real distance being put on the scoreboard right now you do it's early but you got to find something positive right now everything going in the other direction so how are you going to respond when you've been hitting the mouth early in this football game got to find something positive quick [Applause] on to attempt the try kicker on for the extra point and the extra point makes it 14 nothing quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and they close the deal with a 20yd pass for Six lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive and he'll just take a knee and this drive will start at the 25 BC has the ball back hoping for a party in the mods the lead's not insurmountable just down 14 nothing but David you don't score here and it could get a little tricky fast if you don't score here if you don't possess the football and put something together to give your defense a little bit of a blow it's not the ideal start but it ain't like this game's late in the football game creates some momentum here in the second quarter yeah momentum is a real thing in college football this team needs the juju to get going that first quarter is one they'd love to forget so find your best Playmakers now get them isolated get them the football and let them go to [Applause] work quickly complete nice pitch and catch there and they'll have enough for the first down big play in the passing game there and I like the receiver gearing down in the zone did nice job finding the soft spot on defense between the Defenders giving the quarterback an easy target to throw to to complete that throw Boston College wants to play Fast he wants to throw across the 35 and they'll finally bring him down after he rips off a huge play finally this offense starting to shake the cobwebs and get things moving it's first and 10 might as well give it to him again they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one we've made our way to the two-minute warning and now they'll try to at least cut a little something off of this lead before the break lost one on that last one it's second and 11 back to pass it's castios quick completion on the out and this junior quarterback shows you why the scouts love that big arm of his well you can tell those two have been practicing the out route all off seon long they looked like they could have completed that in their sleep and here's the chance to cut into that lead before halftime first and goal here's the snap looking to throw makes the grab they've got it down to the three yd line really well done on that throwing catch really good concept there to get things going and use the tight end early yeah I mean just such a great job on first down setting up an easier second down understanding I don't always have to push the ball down the field but see the tight end make the throw no it's not a big game it makes life really easy on the on second down they try to power it in he's drop behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three all right this offense just keeps trying to pound the ball into the end zone down tight but the defense they're very very physical so I think you got to think about either a perimeter run a potential run pass option or let your quarterback try to go make a play thr you can't hear yourself think on and to the end zone touchdown Eagles and I tell you what that passing touchdown man that should spark this whole team like The Comeback is more than on now like they got the touchdown they cut into the lead you want to get a stop and go into the half get all the juices all the excitement and be like listen the passing game's rolling we got this the comeb back's in full effect ready to try the point after and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer so a well executed 8pl 75 yd drive and the score comes on a 5yd touchdown pass the kickoff team out there set to boot it [Applause] away looking for an alley from inside his own 10 nice job executing all of the assignments that they put a stop to that return at the 22 guys here comes that Florida State offense back onto the field finds his tight end how about this backer in pass coverage and bringing the big hit stick with him too the offense will have to use its first timeout of the half that last completion sets him up on second down looking for a man it's aangal he looks that one in nicely he's really close to that first down marker but they stop him just a bit short nice completion here to this wide receiver and you're going to see this receiver line up in different spots all over the field all game long defense has got to keep their eye on where this guy is because they know he's a big part of this offensive success offense calls a timeout here critically important to make sure they have the right play called and everyone on the same page here this is where you make the money on the drive ball at the 30 it's third and short looking to throw for him he's going to fire deep oh and he gets downfield for the Big Catch and a pick up of better than 30 yds on that completion before the defense brings him down it's a beautiful pass and catch I love the job the quarterback does manipulating the defense with his eyes he Froze that safety and that allowed his receiver more room to work his [Applause] route running out of time here in the first half they're going to have to be efficient to put some points on the board before the break looking to move it through the air gets it out fast and he'll run across the sidelines after the good gain I like this tight end does a really nice job on his route running he's been beating man coverage he can find the soft spots in zones you got to get him involved on second down they'll try the field goal to get the points before halftime and he'll try to knock it through from the right hash and 35 yds out kick is good the offense has three points to show for the drive and they'll push that LE down the room [Music] that late in the half field goal always gives you a little boost going to the locker room and they'll need to finish off these final few seconds and not allow them to answer he'll start the return inside his spot and they'll bring him down to get the offense started on the next Drive first half in the books time now to join Kevin Connor in our halftime update all right guys looks like we've got a great one in Tallahassee going on and I get it a lot of coaches will say the difference between winning and losing comes down to stopping big plays and getting big plays if you ask me it's more about how good you are on third down and how efficient you are in keeping drives alive those two stats can help you break the will of even the best defenses and help you come out out on top with that said let's send it back to the guys at dope Campbell [Applause] Stadium it's all teed up Boston College will kick the start this third quarter here he comes from inside his own five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 the seol have it back they try to get that offensive spear flaming they got plenty done through the air in the first half and we'll see if they even need to look for balance as we start the third quarter well and I I think defensively you understand like the running game isn't a big part of the plan I wonder how they adjust and play more coverage to this pass happy offense yeah so you're going to have to be ready if you're a quarterback then you're probably going to see some different coverages you might see a little bit more Blitz in the second half as well so you have to know where your answers are hand off to the single running back stacked up after gaining a couple to the 23 the Run game just has not been working for this offense all game long you saw it on that last play as well just not getting enough push up front on the offensive line they haven't been physical enough they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here to the air into wangal it's complete good job running that right outow to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch that is going to drive this defensive coordinator nuts a lot of DCs they focus a ton of energy on how their unit performs on third down and in the Red Zone if this defense gives up a couple more third down conversions like that they're going to be in for a very unpleasant film session on Monday got a man they make the stop but not before they do their work up top and pick up a first down and any time a wide receiver makes a big play like that images of Peter Warick start flashing in seol's heads and man just the that time that era with Bobby bow and those offenses you just think about high flying every position game Breakers and I think a swag Reese just guys that I know I could throw to the outside that had swag that could take it to the house make big plays second down [Applause] after picking up a couple it's second and eight the give is to Williams One Step W Two Step squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground the marker rest at the 39 and that's what they need here on third down from the gun wants to pass throws to the wide out grabbed in the middle it's Benson chopping up this defense and they've got it all the way down to the 23 when you're a playmaker like this guy is your coaches are going to dial up plays intended for you especially on third down that's what you saw in that last play there was no question where the quarterback was going with that football all week long they decided Ed on the biggest Downs of this game we're going to Target our best player and we're going to make sure that he gets looks it doesn't matter what the coverage is you saw it right there on that they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground to cover pick up the first I love offenses and quarterbacks that are willing to take the easy stuff take those easy throws that are guaranteed to get positive yards yeah I'm going to take big shots down the field too but don't forget it's easier to pick up second and five third and five and is when we start getting those long yardage situations and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few great play by the cornerback he was just way too physical at the point of attack he beat his man trying to block him and he tackled that receiver on the screen they trying to extend this already long drive the ninth play is a third and three looking to throw it again catch in the middle it's Douglas he's brought down but he's got him inside the 10 bursting goal from the eight and that's a really good example of a quarterback and his intended target both being on the same page the timing was almost perfect on that play that's why they were able to convert the third down now setting up first and goal and the simol will try to put one on the board on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the Run not much room he gets one down to the seven and a nice second effort by the back to break a tackle but how about those defensive backs willing to come up stick their face in the fan and make a tackle those are the best run defenses too right it's not just D lineman and linebackers getting all the plays but it's DBS that are willing to not just cover but tackle backs in the open field they'll run it to the left here looking for the goal line knocked down after a gain of one they'll mark it at the six and this offense trying to be physical inside the 5 yd line I get it but I tell you what Palmer this quarterback has earned some trust for me with the day he's had yeah right now he's thinking put the game in my hands I'm playing well and I'm seeing the defense well I see what they're doing from a coverage standpoint count on me to throw a touch and it's caught touch now Florida State if this dude were a kitchen KN you would be slicing tomatoes so thin your in-laws would never come back to your house well that'd be a good thing I don't know if I want my in-laws to come back anyways but he's been on fire he's been absolutely torching this defense they've had absolutely no answers for [Applause] him they'll try to add another to their lead the extra [Applause] point the kick is is up and good and put one more on the lead precise Relentless execution on that 13pl scoring drive and they get it into the end zone with a 6yd touchdown pass they're lining up to boot it away K and he takes this from inside the five and the coverage team gets the returner on the ground Boston College sending the offense back onto the field trailing Now by 17 David this is an opportunity that they need to answer and down by 17 it's not panic mode yet like I know we just gave up some points and our defense hasn't played great I think this offense can still be who they are and stay consistent no doubt lots of football to go but you do get the feeling this is the time of game where you know it could get bad if you don't score and all of a sudden they get the ball back they take it down the field and put some points up this thing might be over so absolutely this quarterback he wants to drive this offense down the field and at least put something on the board makes the grab it's B there to make the tackle but the big throw is good enough to give them a first down at 28 that's a first down for the [Applause] offense that's the end of the quarter and Florida state has the lead they've built a comfortable lead after three quarters of play Let's Take a look at how we got here [Applause] just about ready to go in the fourth and we'll see if any drama can be mustered offense has it at the 28 on first down wants to throw it's castios he'll pull it down and run and he gets it just beyond the line of scrimmage before he gets down these are the plays that don't show up in the stats right like a great job look at him he does an awesome job instead of taking the sack clearly wanted to throw the football scrambles around gets some positive yards it doesn't go down as a huge gain but these are the plays that get you [Applause] WS they'll run it from the gun that's a kind of play that can really get you going as they have a first down at the 43 well it's a nice change up call on offense because obviously in the fourth quarter you're down by a bunch of points and everybody in the stadium is expecting you to throw it to get back in the game so you dial up the Run play and you get a huge Gainer hopefully that can can give this offense the momentum they need to try to scrape and Claw back into this [Applause] one off the play fake on first down to throw he's looking deep and this is dropped incomplete pass he had a huge gain in his fingers and he couldn't hold on you see an incompletion there I think a big reason why this team is in such a hole right now in the fourth quarter is they have just not been able to find the explosive plays throwing the ball and you got to wonder at this point is it too little too [Applause] late on second down he's looking downfield and he can't escape and down he goes just a great job defensively making him go through his progressions and he really didn't have time to do it and that's exactly what you do in zone C you dropping your spots you read the quarterback's eyes make sure you take away that quick stuff and a great job rushing the pass and getting the [Music] sa this is a third and [Music] [Applause] long dropping back it's castios working the middle it's complete and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the Stop and you see so many smart wide receivers so many smart tight ends nowadays that they know where the holes in those zones are and they work with their quarterback and they find them and they sit down at them and make big plays it's tough to sit back in zone against such smart players nowaday fires to the wide out he's got him and they convert and they finally get him to the ground an easy conversion for this offense defense not exactly the perfect fourth down call there for the off [Applause] Boston College right back to the [Applause] line comes out throwing on first down trying to make magic on the scramble and he avoids the hit and slides after the short game welcome to the frustrating reality of college football like the guy at the quarterback spot he can just do that pull it down get positive yards makes the defense have to account for him every single for no huddle here for the offense looking to throw on second down grabbed behind the line it's bricho and just a short safe pass play they pick up a few and defensively this is exactly what you want right you got the big lead so you can play Big Zone coverages just keep the ball in front of you keep your eye on the quarterback rally to the football gang tackle you're going to win this game Ball's at the 25 they're in field goal range but they'd love to convert this third and [Applause] short from the gun wants to pass a shot for the endone and that one's incomplete they weren't just trying to move the chains they were trying to move the scoreboard instead it's fourth down and that's just the kind of game it's been for this quarterback in this offense you got a great game plan all week long you're watching watching it throughout practice you think you're going to have a chance to light up the scoreboard but they're just not able to hook up you got to give this defense a ton of credit they've done a great job in coverage they've been breaking on passes they've had their number and that's why they're leading by as much as they are he rolls all the way down to the 5 yd line before they finally get him stopped there's a couple of ways to deal with quarterbacks that can run like that so well QB contained keep those ends outside and wide keep them in the pocket and put a spy on them put a guy in the middle of the field who's really fast that has the ability to go get that guy when he takes off in situations like this two minutes now left in this one in time is running short if they want to find a way to pull this one [Applause] out Boston College will try to get it in on a first and goal motion by the back forces the defense to adjust caught in the back Back Field it's bricho and there is nothing doing on that one you got the completion and nothing else to show for it they'll hurry to the line with the clock still [Applause] running looking to throw it's castios and makes the grab in the end zone touchdown Boston College Boston College nice job by the offense going down the field putting points on the board but you're still down a couple possessions still need some good things to happen you need your kicker to go over there and get warmed up we need an onside we need to score some points we need a lot of things to go right to win this football game [Music] they'll try to attack one more on their [Applause] score and the Pat will draw them one point closer that is what they mean when they say ball control a 14-play touchdown drive and they close the deal with the seven Y for the score they're definitely up against it time running out down two possessions they'll try the onside kick that's why they call this in the hands team they're able to secure the onside kick guys here comes that Florida State offense back onto the field and as we get later in this game Jesse you want to keep moving the ball being aggressive but don't turn the thing over so how about getting the running game going right here David on this drive let those Big Fellas up front get some push bleed the clock move the chains yeah no need to get greedy I know the passing stats and you want to score but you're right the clock right now is your friend with a two-possession lead they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible and the running game has gone in the wrong direction the offense tries to turn it around and go forward on third down fights off a Defender and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense so on fourth down here comes the field goal kicker in a huge spot and he's got it counted all the way to 55 never in doubt how nice is it as a head coach to have a kicker like this it makes these decisions on fourth down so much easier just trut him out there and let him stroke it through the uprights [Music] they were able to get a field goal on the board and now they'll kick it away and it'll come out to the 25 no attempt at a return BC has it back and the eagle offense returns to the field looking downfield it's castios finds his man in the middle that's the kind of play that can really get you going as they get it out to the 36 and the offense here dialed up a really good Zone be give credit to the offensive coordinator he called the right play at the right time trying to get everybody set with the clock still running they'll throw it on first down nice defensive play to get a hand in there and knock it away well I know that one fell incomplete but what a day this guy has had throwing the football multiple touchdowns and he's done a really nice job with his decision making hasn't thrown any picks which has really helped keep this offense UNS schedule L getting set on second [Applause] down after the incompletion they go back up top a deep throw as the clock winds down give him six and give them a chance with the late touchdown still alive in this one if we had any chance to make this happen we had to score with a little bit of time on the clock now we need a miracle now now we need to kick the onside get an onside kick and somehow someway make a big play [Applause] getting set for the point after and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer quick strike offense on that three-play scoring drive and they finished the drive with a 64 four yard scoring toss the clock is at 40 seconds they'll line up for the onside kick and try to save themselves in the waiting moments he's able to grab the football and the hands team gets the job done yeah and this is why you put your hands team on the field most of the time when you know it's coming and you put those guys that are great catchers of the football the first guys what do they do they go block they go blow somebody up and next guys catch the football secure it get your butt on the ground and most of the time when you do this the ball game is over
