awaken one that thrived in urban renewal and now one where only the Gators Get Out Alive little gets the blood boiling quite like a rivalry game barbs shots trash talk things that go on throughout the week will now all be settled on this field as we'll see the number 12 team in the country the LSU Tigers taking on a team recharged that a much needed by week the for theator 48 sport college football I'm Rees Davis David poock and Jesse Palmer with me guys it's time to get it going the gator will kick it away [Applause] first and it'll be a Touchback the ball will come out to the 25 yd line [Applause] they challenged this crowd to bring the energy and I'd say they're doing that looking for space it's Duro picks up a useful 5yd chunk out to the 30 yd line coming off a season in which things really didn't go their way in conference play and they love get on a roll here this season well this is a team from a roster standpoint though that believes they're better on the field than they were a year ago they've made some additions through High School recruiting through the portal and they think that's going to be the difference David and now they got to put it together right and this is when it really works when you get in conference play it gets different the familiarity within the league of all the coaches and so this is really hard for them but I'm interested to see what they can do and to see if they can bounce back this crowd bringing the energy and noise early quarterback touch pass on the Jet Sweep he is stopped behind the line of scrimmage they'll lose yards on that one got to give the defense credit watching film anticipating they knew that this offense had this play in their back pocket they knew about the speed of this wide receiver the different ways they were going to try to get him involved everybody on defense on the same page playing together I love it he is lucky to get that one back you want is to turn it over on your opening drive we had a barn burner the last time these two teams played and no reason to expect anything else between these two bitter Rivals attention to detail and I think the sense of urgency David in a game like this just goes way and I think managing the emotions in these type of games you you know last year was a classic now you're trying to form this year's identity of this team and go out and get a win in a big time rivalry game and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the Stop and I love the discipline on defense right there big third Downs so everyone keeping their eyes on the quarterback rallying to the ball making a tackle great team defense this offense wants to establish an aggressive identity they'll go for it on fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down gets drilled as he throws the big pressure on fourth down and they'll get it back coaches talk about it all the time we're going to be aggressive well they were aggressive on that first drive they go for it on fourth down no dice now you put your defense on the field I like the aggressiveness but now you got to deal with some of the consequences here's this offense with a fresh set of downs snags a quick pass on the left and the defense had that one well covered just a short game there yeah and you see running backs in today's football they play wide receiver basically for you but you got to find a guy that you can throw it to and you know he's going to catch the ball consistently after picking up a couple at second and eight looking for a man it's flagway quickly complete he's there to make the to stop and they threw it in reverse losing yardage on that play how about that the dying breed of the tackling cornerback you don't see those anymore everybody wants to be great in coverage everybody wants to get picks but how many corners really want to get their f ball in the air intercepted not a lot of room on the return but he'd already got the most important thing the ball and they have it at the 46 and that's just a force by the quarterback they're throwing it into cover three it's a Zone coverage and if you're going to try to throw it deep down the middle you need another route to occupy the safety and take him away there was nothing there that time that's just way too easy of an interception for him using his legs it's Dura he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple that linebacker saw the express lane right to the ball carry and a great job by the defensive line getting some push making them use their resources on him linebacker comes free to make him back f for a tackle for loss after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 now the play fake and the defense gets to the quarterback Gator fans love to see their teams light up the scoreboard but they'll take the defense bringing the heat too and I think that was a staple re back in the day you had great offenses for Florida but the teams that really had the most success and that reached the highest mountain Toops they had great defense to go with it this defense playing well on Third and long he'll need to loosen up that arm using the back as a receiver on the screen they play that screen nicely he tried to find his way to the marker but it'll be fourth down you got love that on defense one of the most critical statistics out there is how do you play on third down how do you prevent the opponent from keeping drives alive right there tackling the catch you gave up the completion what you do you set up fourth and long you're going to get the ball back go get some water and celebrate on fourth down he'll try to toss it and that pass intercepted he would have loved to make the big return there but he still gives his team the ball at the 37 well we know these are SL conditions today in this game wide receiver just didn't seem to really get a good grasp on the ball when it hit his hands didn't stick right away there's a a bit of a bobble and because of it the defense able to come away with the pick looking to move it through the air they'll run the screen and they wrap him up but not before he's gotten up for the first down and there you go you see you don't have to throw bombs to get big plays in the passing game just screen it to your running back as soon as he catches it he gets up field and how about the downfield blocking by these linemen and the wide receivers as they rip off that explosive play on the move it's web and he has a solid gain before the defense bottles him up and it's really nice whether it's RPO or not is having a defensive line that Stones the offensive line takes away the gaps it doesn't matter what your read is if you're winning up front of that defensive line from the gun give on the inside they are on the move down to the 32 and they pick up another first down and that is exactly why you stick to running the football haven't had a lot of success but boom you pop one right that's what you got to do you got you cannot become onedimensional and just throw the football every down love the offense sticking to the Run nice job getting the first down oh man there's some big hitting going on the trenches right now this defense they take a lot of pride in stopping the Run let's keep our eye on them throughout the course of the game and see if they can contain this running attack fast motion from the offense feeling some heat nowhere close on that one as he got drilled trying to deliver the football and now they face third down doesn't take this defense a lot of time to get to the quarterback man they've got speed all over the place they hit him so quickly and because of that the ball Falls incomplete it's a makeable field goal from the 29 yd line let's see how it go aggressive they are on Third and long dropping back it's flagway fires to the wide out he's got an open man and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the [Applause] chain the of the and after we they'll break the seal on this quarter here on first down going to the run it's maxter able to get one down the 15 [Applause] down didn't get much on first down it's second and nine we he's looking to throw quickly complete and good coverage by the defense just a short game a great job by the defense seeing it right away reacting to the screen going and getting the football and getting the fast playmaker on the ground boy they'd love to move the sticks here and take a shot at it on first and goal jabit on third down he drops to throw got his man quick you know the tight end's going to have to do a better job of separating and giving his quarterback a place to go with the football that time just couldn't create it and as a result as soon as he made the catch he was brought to the ground setting up fourth down offense in a bunch formation the receivers often will run their route based on a side adjustment on fourth down they'll pass for it lets it go to the end zone and it's incomplete a missed opportunity so many factors is going into making the big play in the big moment calling the right play getting protection you got it all down huh it's perfect and then he does that drops the ball right in his hands leaves it with the running back and he's brought down after a nice game that's a really nice run one thing I love about him is he's got versatility reminds me of a guy I used to play against back in the day Kevin ful he could catch the ball could run the ball he could block he returned kicks he did everything for the LSU Tigers and this guy he's got that ability too so many different Tools in his toolbox defense showing plenty of PR snap movement of their own touch pass on the r oh look out there he goes he's inside the 40 the 20 touchdown LSU and once he got loose it was all over number 11 did not take long to get into the end zone now let's see if this gets this offense to hit overdrive and we may have a situation here we might have points more points and more points you keep putting Drives together like that that quickly chewing up that much yardage defenses are going to have to get something fig it out let's go to the studio now and check in with Kevin Connor Kevin what do you got phas it's now a final in one of the more intriguing games of the season this huge top five clatch Oregon delivered maybe its most thorough thumping in years in a game that featured a ton of big plays not unlike the way L Michel James Kenan Barner and Jonathan Stewart used to do going to be interesting to see what the Fallout from this one is for one rank team while the other could have a case for the number one spot in America fellas and Kevin Conor's keeping an eye on everything all over the country sounds like they had a good one there to throw it's flagway hit hard just as he released it on first down and just couldn't get it to the receiver in a competitive conference like the SEC you just can't afford to start 0 and one if you want to chase a championship really important to get off to a good start no doubt in the SCC you've got to set the tone early it's all about creating momentum out of the gate both of these teams had this game circled all off seon David they know what's riding on the line yeah so much riding on the line who gets to Atlanta down the road bragging rights recruiting rights all this stuff once you get in conference play it means a lot every single week makes the catch it's Wilson to the 43 yd line and a first down for this offense how nice is it as a quarterback when you don't have to throw post routes to get great stats no I can just throw it quickly to one of the fastest players the entire nation and let him burn this defense and he intercepts it that kind of play can really get you going not only on defense but the great field position for the O at the 37 this is obviously not a great start for this quarterback here two interceptions already in this game he's got to do a much better job with his decision making they're going to throw it to start the drive unloads to the wide out it's complete and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes the stop they've moved to the 16 it's first and 10 they'll leave it with him he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions it's the two-minute warning and we'll see if the offense can tack a little something extra on their lead before the [Applause] break after losing a couple on that last play here's second and 12 back to pass it's nus Meer oh it goes right through his hands they had everything set up on the screen except the catch it'll be third down we know this guy's a weapon not just taking handoffs but he can catch the ball too that play not so much got to do a better job reeling It In This Crowd rising up sensing that his defense needs some help on third down going up top can't make the grab as he was looking for his man right at the goal line tell you what I don't know if the offense was expecting man coverage that time third and long in field goal range you're expecting it to be Zone instead they lock them up manto man everybody on an island everybody won they get the incompletion Now setting up the wall they'll kick it away after putting up a field goal on that last drive and they desperately wanted to attempt a return but decided not to instead they'll take the [Applause] [Music] Touchback the gator sending the offense back to work not a lot of time left here in the half let's see if they can cut into this lead and this drive isn't a must score but man you look at the scoreboard you're down two scores Jesse you got a good opportunity create some momentum cut it to a onore game this is an important possession yeah it's important to create that momentum now d to and not wait to get it going here at the start of the third quarter you got one drive here to get a couple of points you've got to start erasing and chipping away at this deficit this could be where the game turns right here and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it the incompletion brings us to Second and 10 here comes the option and the ball is out who's going to get it they recovered their own fumble somehow who knows how they got that thing back well the offense is able to avoid disaster right there problem is they fumbled it but thankfully they were able to jump back on and not have a [Applause] turnover on Third and long hoping to throw beyond the sticks and the quarterback bought some time but not enough down he goes with a sack quick timeout by the defense there trying to make sure everyone has the same call fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way and the returner will be brought down take over first and [Applause] 10 tell us you will dive into the Playbook here on offense they kicked a field goal on the last F Drive Jesse they've got the lead don't make a dumb mistake but maintain your aggressive play calling yeah no doubt I think it's for the play caller right now just taking a look at that script he's got in front of him and finding out where are my Playmakers who can we take advantage of on this defense to get a touchdown here yeah and just keep moving the ball down the field just execute a little bit better in the Red Zone there's no need to panic we're moving the football and we got the lead now from the 40 it's first and 10 to the air it's nus Meer throws to the wide out and the pass it's picked off taking it the other way running inside the 20 and he's going to run it all the way back touch down Forida the DB saw it he thought don't drop it don't drop it then thought don't get caught don't get caught and he did the pick six hey these guys can play offense too now look at this I showed you I can be a wide receiver coach might split him out a wide receiver next week after making that big play but defense great job making the interception and you're right doing something with it don't just slide down don't be content take that thing all the way back [Applause] [Applause] the Bayou Bengals will run the offense out onto the field the big thing now don't get rattled by that last pick six David N it was a big mistake uh obviously the defense took advantage of it but you got to put it behind you Jesse I'm sure you know a thing or two about throwing fck sinks and and how to rebound I believe I've only thrown one in my life but yes I do because of that singular instance I'll say this you can't let that play Beat you twice you got to go out not try to get it all back here in one play Just execute the offense good job to toss that ball out of bounds and avoid the loss and how loud is it in this building this is crazy this these fans are going absolutely nuts and I used to love when the fans got involved and I'm on defense because it messes with the snap count it messes with the communication and it can really rattle on offense quarterback will keep it and he avoids the hit and slides after the short game that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with the halftime update L LSU will put foot to leather to start the second half catches it inside his 20 chance to really gain some ground couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the [Applause] [Music] 25 Florida has the ball back and here comes the offense lowc scoring first half but now an opportunity to get things off on the right foot here in the third quarter well and the good thing is you had time to go in the locker room you have time to discuss what they're doing what of our plan of action is now moving forward Palmer and might caught him off guard a little bit they know they should have made some adjustments yeah you had a chance to regroup and go back and think about okay where do we think we have our best chance of success in this game which side of the offensive line can we run to which guy can we throw to to hopefully now have a much better second half and they knock him down but he got past the line the game well it's a nice play design there you're getting the running back involved in the pass game quarterback gives to him early so he can go to work up field and get the first down it's first and 10 from the 38 yd line they'll run this one off right tackle just causing wreckage in the secondary just a Savvy veteran productive run from this junior you're down obviously the half you had a conversation we got to come out and put points on the board and Jesse it looks like they're going to start with the ground game and I love this David too regardless of whether they're losing or they're winning come come out here and try to be the most physical unit here in the second half get this run game established and a nice run there before the defense finally makes the stop yeah this coaching staff they're getting this offensive line lathered up and into a rhythm now they're letting him drive off the ball on first down on these running plays and they're getting chunks of yardage wide receiver shows motion touch pass on the Jet Sweep he almost picked up the first down on that one but he'll be just a little bit short and these little touch passes man they're just the easiest completions ever for quarterbacks Palmer I bet you would have loved being able to just Flip It Forward that counts as to your completion percentage which is good and then it's all run after the catch so pretty easy for a QB you wouldn't have been the only All-American in this booth David if I were allowed to P have Push passes when I was playing quarterback I'll tell you that it is so hard to defend it's so hard to seal that edge especially when this guy's Full Speed Ahead coming around theun [Applause] back to throw it's flue fires to the wide out on target over the middle and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end and Ne Gators will line it up on First and 10 they'll run it from the gun fakes his man out and he's able to shed one tackle and get to a pretty good pickup love the push by the offensive line on that RPO play look how they just work the single teams and the double teams you see linemen chipping off of their guys and climbing into the second level and getting a hat on the linebacker that's why those types of plays are successful going to work in the Red Zone they can't pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone running it to the right he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple great job by the defense everybody firing off the ball hitting guys holding their gaps running to the football nowhere to go not a lot of ground to cover and not much to defend a big third down in the Red Zone they'll try to pick up the first through the air makes the grab touchdown Gator and that one will give him the lead [Music] [Applause] they'll try to add another to their lead and with the extra point they're up 14 to 10 and let's check in with Kevin Conor's in the studio Kevin week in and week out guys you never know what's going to happen in college football check this out Northwestern is trailing right now but I'm not ready to say this team is out of it we've seen this program stage memorable comebacks before do not rule out another one today it's a touchdown game they're trailing by seven to Jacksonville State just another week of college football where we've come to expect the unexpected fellas thanks for the update on that one Kevin let us know when it goes final he'll take the Deep shot he's got him on the right side great job by the receiver to get the foot down well LSU receivers are known for their Swagger and that is Swagger well earned after that one you go outside and you make plays like listen you have swag you have confidence and you usually get a little bit Lou re and be like listen feed me the rock so many great LSU receivers in the past and it's because of that swag this has got to be disappointing if you're the offense guys you were expecting to have a lot of success running the ball especially against this defense which has struggled so so much this season but just nothing doing they have not been good enough in the trenches so far 12 one on that last one it's second and 11 back to throw it's nus Meer he's right on target he's there to make the stop but the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on the throwing catch it's a really nice play there the thing about this guy he forces the defense to have to stay disciplined you just can't take a play on he reminds me of an old LSU quarterback that I used to play against hurt Tyler he was a guy that could hurt you throwing the ball but he was also shiy and he could extend plays we had a great defense in Florida full of NFL dudes but he just never let you feel comfortable because of his athleticism and his Dynamic ability this guy has a little bit of that too this crowd knows they have to bring it in big moments and one of those has arrived try to get the edge with a quick touch pass and he broke one tackle on the way to a solid pick up there man the defense you hold your breath when this receiver has the football out in space you have got to make sure you're playing with outstanding Pursuit nice job there but as this game goes on they've got to keep an eye on this and he'll finish the run in the end zone touch down L resue lining up to tack one more onto that lead Precision blocking up front created the open Lane and the running back followed it beautifully yeah and it's pretty easy to follow an offensive line that makes those holes and just gives you a caravan all the way to the end zone what an unbelievable job blocking up front fielded In The End Zone it's Hawkins gets it out to the 20 about 5 yd short of where he'd be if he' just taken a knee in the end zone first [Applause] [Music] and the gator sending the offense back to work how about the way they attacked the last time they had the ball mixing run and pass and winding up in the end zone Jesse that's why recruiting is so important they've got weapons at every skill position on the field any of these guys is dangerous if they touch the football let's see what they do on this drive David and so Palmer I got to take away something I can't let them have everything and have success I got to be aggressive against the run or play for the pass I can't give him everything makes the tackle at the 30 after he picked up 10 man who says you can't run up the middle anymore right everybody thinks I got to make big plays I got to go way out to the left way out to the right way out in space nope right down the middle nice blocking how about the running back you could tell the speed the wheels does a great job getting down the field making it going for the big play he's got it inside the 30 he finally steps out of bounds a gigantic run that'll take us to the end of the third quarter L 17 Florida 14 back at it to open the quarter with this first down [Applause] play pulls and fires in complete to the right they'll get it down to the 8 yd line on that throw and catch and the defense is backed up against the wall one of the things that makes this guy so dangerous is how good he is after the catch if he's got any space around him he's able to burst he's able to make people miss and get extra yards for his offense you saw it right there motion from the offense keeping it on the ground on first and goal touchdown Florida and they grab the advantage taking the lead here in the four man I love this offense being able to run the football late in the game when it matters and punch it in for the touchdown and more importantly take the lead and the extra point is good and every Point counts it's now a fourpoint lead in the fourth about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown he'll bring it out it's Hilton they drag him down at 22 he gambled for the big return out of the end zone and came up a little short hu will dive into the Playbook here on [Applause] offense they'll go to the ground they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one don't you love energetic defenses that fly around and make things happen the ones that get in the back field the running back tries to go some where do you want him to go there there is nowhere to go nice job by the defense creting the tackle for a loss in first down didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 to the air it's nus Meer going up top it's complete a huge pickup and they'll do more than move the change they'll move that thing more than 30 yd down the field before he's finally stopped yeah and the quarterback knew exactly where he wanted to go to the football had time spins the ball deep nice job by this offense understanding what the defense is given him and create an explosive play he want to throw unloads it left and here's the third interception of the night he'll try to take it back and he was looking for the pick six he'll have to settle for getting it inside the 30 the defense has been all over this quarterback all game long it's almost as if they know where he's going to throw that now the third interception he's thrown Florida has the ball back and here comes the offense they'll keep it on the ground trying to milk the clock and a good solid pick up there before the defense knocks him down late in football games I have a plan I want to run the football I want to put my quarterback in great situations if I do throw it low risk keep that clock moving get a few first downs and if I get a few first downs with that clock moving I get the W and get out of here and just nowhere to go for that Runner he had no choice that defense they were bringing it up front everybody winning their one-on ones and they completely had him surrounded here's the snap looking to throw steps away to find some room trying to escape and get it himself picks up the first down and gets down to avoid contact you know I think in this situation of the game too if I'm this guy I'm thinking the same thing right I'm throwing and getting yards and if it's not there I'm going to take this game over myself with my legs we're in the fourth quarter we've got an opportunity one possession down to get back in this thing I just got to do whatever I got to do to make that happen they'll try to get it in with the run and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out defense rolls up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming they'll keep it on the ground right up the gut looking for six he bullies his way all all the way down to the 5 yd line yeah I think my thought process needs to be points are good cuz if I get a field goal here that's fine I take the lead by more than a field goal they got to go the length of the field but I also want to run this clock let it continue to work but the goal is to get a touchdown so let's see what this offense dials up next they'd love to make this short field payoff with a touchdown instead of settling for three but it is third and goal RoR RoR it's reverse they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one all right a little bit outside the box right a little bit of a different play call on third down but I think now you got to make the decision now it's between do I go for it do I kick a field goal I think you call a play like that last one and you know if I get to the one yard line I'm going for it on fourth down so I think the offensive coordinator probably had a pretty good idea what they wanted to do on the outcome of that play So on fourth down here comes the field goal kicker in a huge spot right down the boulevard it's good they were able to get a field goal on the board and now they'll kick it away that's a huge kick right there because now the opponent has to score a touchdown here in the fourth quarter that put so much pressure on the opponent now nice job by the Special Teams going going out and executing in a big [Applause] moment the Bengal will run the offense out onto the field these are the games these are the moments this is the opportunity for the finish that people remember in rivalries like this one and those highlights that are shown for years and years to come these Big Time moments Palmer coming down to the wire who steps up and makes the big time play and this is why you lift the weights in the off season this is why you do all the gassers and all the Sprints for moments like this game on the line in one of the biggest games of the year and he surges up to the 36 yd line and they'll move the chain I love when players understand situations and they understand where the first down marker is and they understand where I got to get to a lot of people you'll see run north south and try to bounce out wide and make big plays sometimes it's not about making big plays sometimes it's about getting that first down to make sure I get an extra set of downs instead of trying to make those big touchdown runs wants to throw it's nus me and he's all bottled up and now it's worse the ball's loose oh the fumble in the defense got it and this defense breaks it open as they return it to the house for six and the defense comes with the blitz nice job getting to the quarterback and don't just get there try to strip that football out and get the Cub to the ground the ball falls out they scoop it up take it all the way back to the house for six and for a quick update let's go to Kevin Conor in the studio fellas I think at least a portion of your audience will have an interest in the one that just finished up Duke answer the Bell away from Durham today with an impressive Victory the Blue Devils knew the challenges awaiting them and they met him head on generally the mark of a really good team 60 Minutes of football and a convincing outcome and certainly a game with implications far beyond just the standards fellas Kevin thanks a lot for that one t as if they had a good one [Applause] there LSU will dive into the Playbook here on offense it's a good thing to be charitable Jesse but I think the last couple of drives might be overdoing it a bit I agree and I think at this point David the quarterback here he's got to be a CEO and he's got to really get his guys settled down couple turnovers in a row now they've got to find a r CEO AKA don't screw it up young man that's what it sounds like on the sidelines for the coaches we've got to stop turning the football over and now on second down for this offense they'll throw again after the incompletion a strike down downfield he's run out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down well this offense has a ton of work left ahead of him here in this two-minute situation late in the game but the drive off to a good start you get the first down you get out of bounds you work in the perimeter of the field that is exactly what you want to do he's going to pass he's taking a deep shot and it's his fourth interception of the night you're not getting him on the ground still on his feet and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception that should be the nail in the cin what a great break on the football getting a big turnover you've got the lead now just go out there be smart on offense and run that clock the gator sending the offense back to work final minute this game's on Ice they can take a knee and run out the clock this offense has to feel great with how they're able to go out execute and perform big plays all game long I think it's sending a statement too to future defens is down the road on the schedule they're going to be tough to contend with yeah I mean they got Firepower putting up so many points this thing is easily over now they can just chillax go back to the locker room know they're going to get the [Applause] victory now on first down from the 43 here we go they'll give it to him again really nice stop there from this senior [Applause] [Music] leader no matter how much college football changes realignment all of that kind of stuff rivalry are consistent and winning rivalry games well that's just the best because they hate each other so much so you take the field against your rival you're able to put forth a performance like that that is worth its weight and gold David unbelievable effort here by the winning team and bragging rights now for a while bragging rights for a while it's it's a fun thing to be able to accomplish now we also got to take in the next couple games cuz this is always there's a let down that naturally happens after these big rivalry wins we
