e e that that for e e e e e welcome to Muny Indiana home of the Ball State Cardinals and we are looking forward to this matchup and certainly the fans are showing that they are as well we we have a ranked versus unranked battle coming up here and you know how chaos can ensue if they start smelling an upset as we'll see a squad from the Sun Belt the akan chips taking on the 19th rank team in the land the ball State Cardinals for EA Sports college football I'm Reese Davis David poock and Jesse Palmer with me guys it's time to get it going the Zips ready to put toe to Lea and get this season started the returner will field it and try to do some business and they'll get him on the ground as the offense comes out to start the next drive so the ball State Cardinals Return Man hardle helped out the offense with that one and here he comes guys the man who makes everything a first down for the [Applause] offense out of the gun the running back has it they needed to find enough space and get it moving forward and they're up to the 22 8- yd pickup on first down leaves them with second and short he'll ride his man on the option he just never got started going forward a huge loss of eight on the play so already a challenge on this opening drive it's third and nine they're bringing heat that pass is well offt Target he got hit as he was trying to throw and they can't convert on third down the Cardinals will line up to punt it away having to kick it away after a three and out not what they had in mind surprisingly makes a fair catch just outside the 40 yd line the Zips offense will take the field for the first time as we take a look at our impact players for this one what are you looking for Jesse for a guy to make an impact well these are simply put the leaders of this football team in general games go how these guys play if they make plays they've got a shot to win this one no doubt they got to show up these are the team leaders these guys have to play well if they're going to win the football game shakes off the tackler and the defense makes a big hit and knocks him down and the Zips want to crank the tempo from the gun wants to pass can't can't make the connection on third down thanks to that tough hard-nosed pass defense and now it's fourth down oh that's one that can mess with your confidence that is horrible this drive will get started from the 37 yd line the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the D they'll run it out of the shotgun a seven yd pickup it'll be second and three after the good pickup on first down let's see if they keep it on the ground off the play faint grabbed over the middle it's John and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup it's a first and 10 from the 42 yd line the give to the back and a good solid pick up there before the defense knocks him down got eight on first down now looking at a second and two hand off from the shotgun squeezes out a couple of yards down to the 32 here they come on third down and the defense has had no answer so far trying to pick it up on the ground and a nice second effort by the back to break a tackle but how about those defensive backs willing to come up stick their face in the fan and make a tackle those are the best run defenses too right it's not just D linan and linebackers getting all the plays but it's DBS that are willing to not just cover but tackle backs in the open field and the Cardinals have moved it inside the 20 they'll try the Run running it in the Red Zone imposing their will and picking up five down to the 15 this has the makings of a good drive the seven play brings up a third and four deep shot for the End Zone can't make the grab as he was looking for his man right at the goal line they're happy enough to try to take the points as the field goal unit heads out it is good and the first points of the day come on that field goal [Applause] [Music] after that last field goal Drive they're set to kick it away he thought about bringing that out for a half second but he'll take a knee and they'll bring it to the 25 akan has it back ready to send that offense back onto the field he'll off one deep down the left side and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge game if he could have held on he wants to throw here on second down gets it out quickly you know David this is really what game managing is nice pick up on second down to help them on the next play yeah I think people look at that negative sometimes finding a quarterback that's a game manager no use your brain set up good situations I'm I'm way more successful when I can keep those scks in a more manageable situation and I'm not as predictable on a third down fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way on the Move looking for a little sliver of hope that Nifty return sets up the offense and negates some of the yardage on the punt to the ground with the back and that's a very productive first down play and bringing up second and three running backs on either side side of the quarterback looking for a physical attack from the gun at the 40 there he goes and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup lining up from the 34 on first down the give to the running back from the shotgun yeah and the running back didn't get much here but you know you clearly want to always establish the tempo run the football be consistent make that defense physically Meet The Challenge on second down looking again to throw grabbed behind the line it's Williams the defense wouldn't let him loose and even though it's in completion they lost yardage on third down he'll try to pick it up through the air and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop it's fourth down and they'll try the field goal no good it's still a three-point game after the minut the Zips take over and akan ready to get that offense to work last time David it was one two three kick yeah last drive that three and out sometimes that puts your defense in a bad spot and you got to get a drive together here so you don't wear the defense out I just think David too predictable that last Drive they got to do something here to get this defense on their heels on second down he'll fire C in the back field it's rush and just a short safe pass play they pick up a few the Zips moving quickly to the line on Third and long trying to have a big completion here and the defense is all over the quarterback and down he goes they'll tell you that somebody's always going to pop open but it didn't happen in time before they got the sack no it did not and you know what I'm going to remember this I'm going to remember zone defense they didn't really have an answer they weren't ready to get rid of the football quarterback hesitated I got to him and got him on the ground might be a good call later on in the game fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way he gets a block looking for Running Room he'll get it to the 43 yd line before he stopped Ball State takes over the football and the Cardinal offense headed out throws to the wide out he's open on the right and it is a chunk play a huge huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end he's going to pass makes the grab down the middle finds AC crease at the 20 and he'll hold it in and take it to the end zone touchdown Ball State this offense is so explosive they can change the scoreboard in a Flash you just saw that on that drive [Music] [Music] P unit on the field the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead this offense Prides itself on going after you and they did with that long touchdown pass to finish off a two-play drive that brings us to the close of the quarter and ball state has the lead they wanted to strike first and strike hard and they've been able to do that here in the first quarter as we take a look at the stats this could be a pivotal moment in this game as we open the second period and they try to find a way to answer and he takes this from inside the five and good work by the coverage team to knock down the return man akan has it back ready to send that offense back onto the field the deficit here is just 10 points David So a chance to answer here plenty of time left in this football game no need to panic this offense just has to put a couple Drives together and listen the defense will get this back and get some stop follow and get you the football back yeah I think I think here too David you have an opportunity to keep the pressure on the opponent yeah they just went down and scored but you score here and this game still tight you keep their feet to the fire so an opportunity here to keep applying that pressure he is tackled but it'll be a fresh set of downs and the Zips in the hurry up one back in the back field he gets the carry surges across the 30 out to the 32 a 6yd run got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four power football with the Run works his way to the 38 after gaining five the Zips are marching down the field well there we go we finally see some life in this offense running the football nice game to pick up the first down got to get more of that going moving forward cuz they have not run it well fires to the wide out catch in the middle it's Fletcher boy did he look as if he was going to go gets it down to the 37 the give to the tail back not a whole lot of room there three yds maybe second and seven no huddle here for the [Applause] offense and you want to talk about gang tackling everybody on the defense run to the ball eighth play of the drive and to keep this one going they'll need to convert a third and five it's a [Applause] draw offenses gain momentum with third down conversions like that they've got it at the 25 well that's kind of the advantage of third and medium right is the defense you keep them guessing you could throw it you can run it that time they hand it off and they pick it up and you can see the d drop back a little bit it creates a little bit of space the running back blast through gets the first down here's the handoff defense there to stop him after a pickup of two down to the 15 they've mastered third down in this drive converting twice now they need just a few inches they'll try to run for it got enough space and he runs it in for the score touchdown zips there have been miniseries novels movies long form plays that have been over in shorter period of time in that drive that was a marathon and that's just so frustrating when you're a defensive guy time and time again trying to get the stops and they just keep making the plays and they punch it in for a touchdown demoralizing I know he thinks he can house every return but sometimes you just have to take a knee as he stopped at the 14 they go to the ground discards a man works his way into the traffic and picks up three to the 17 after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven he's looking to throw and that defense gets to him and down he goes at the nine well that Defender just was better in his one-on-one on the pass rush he does a great job beating the offensive lineman to get to the QB on Third and long he'll need to push it down field at the 20 he's got space off he goes big big gain on that one as he steps out of bounds with a first down the Cardinals racing to the line in the hurry up he can throw it he can buy time he can run it what what can't he do this guy's so talented when he does stuff like this there's no way to stop it there's no way to coach a defense up against this he's just really fast and I can't catch him off play action he turns that loose down the right side and this is dropped incomplete pass he had a huge gain in his fingers and he couldn't hold on on Third and long he has to throw for it the short hands it's ster open space at the 25 ripped off a huge chunk play on that one as he gets the first down before he steps out of [Music] bounds it's reverse that one did not go well tackled in the back field for a loss of six big loss on the last play threatens to knock this drive off course it's second and 16 they'll leave it with him they make the stop but not before he takes a chunk out of what they need to move the sticks boy they'd love to pick up this conversion and go to work with a first and goal on third down he drops to throw and the ball is intercepted and he's brought down in this back offense set on first [Applause] [Music] down makes the quick grab and those slot receivers nowadays they're little water bugs man you you can play Touch football and an elevator to lose to these guys because they're so quick and so dynamic get open and catch the football give to the back and they make the tackle but he has plenty for the first down they'll try to snap it quickly they're going to go right back to him on first down defense close down quickly after a gain of three they'll mark it at the 32 got three on first down and second and seven he's looking to throw and the pass is incomplete thanks to a big hit a third and long coming up here the give on the inside and Shore tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker and the Zips decide to punt it away fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to punt make sure that there's not going to be a return on this one balls out of bounds and I think they'll mark it right around the 25 from the gun running back on the Move got room at the 35 that one could really put this drive into high gear as they have a first down at the 37 Ed the play fake now to throw makes a connection they'll get him down but before he crosses the 50 he's down to the [Applause] 49 oh it's reverse able to SC three yards out of that one somehow it's second and seven we reached the two-minute warning and we'll see if the offense can build on this lead before the break he wants to pass it on second down and the defense gets to the quarterback and as I saw that screen start to develop I thought big play coming I just didn't realize it would be for the defense yeah they got in there quick and and the quarterback's supposed to see that right he's supposed to let him come up field buy a little bit of time but then he's got to get rid of it get it to his playmaker [Applause] first down here for the offense they'll Run play action makes the grab it's Horton and they bring him down quickly but a good game there that last completion sets him up on second down he's got his man and he gets it up to the 36 it'll be a first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs finds his Target down the middle and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pickup stuck with a running game on first down now here they come again got his man quickly and the completion gives him a fresh set of downs and keeps this drive moving and the Cardinals are on the Move wide out in motion try to get the edge with a quick touch pass nice move to stay on his feet and they're able to force him out of bounds after a short pickup and now on second down for this offense now the play fake coming after him and this sophomore able to wreak some havoc and get the sack often times with play action you're asking the quarterback to hold on to the ball a bit longer and you're asking this offensive line to hold up and pass throw a bit longer against this athletic front seven on defense it's going to be tough looking deep and the Deep shot is complete inside the 35 yd line the Cardinals want to move quickly well look that wasn't a touchdown but that was a massive play for this offense they needed some momentum they needed to find a rhythm in what better way than converting on third down awesome job by the quarterback getting possession they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three leaves it with the back they knock him down at the 21 it's a pick up of five yds on the play and enough for a first down used the play fake now to throw going for it all touchdown Cardinals they've got the lead here in the fourth and some of these guys make it look so easy but these are tight windows down here man there's not a lot of space on the field and he drops back knows exactly where he's going with the football throws it in there makes the play and more importantly now his team is in the lead in the fourth quarter if he can make this one the lead will be three and it's good and he's got the lead up to three late and for a quick update let's go to Kevin Conor's in the studio Gentlemen let's take a look at what's happening in this exciting college football game Baylor is getting its clock clean today that crowd was chanting sium in the pregame but they're saying some other things right now they're trailing by 17 to Purdue Jes his way for more we'll Circle back if anything changes in this exciting college football matchup and how about that one Kevin will be keeping an eye on everything going on [Applause] elsewhere right back to it finally pulled down but not before moving the change for a first down quick Tempo here for the offense leaves it with the running back pretty good job of running to get two there to the 32 picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down he's looking to throw caught behind the line it's Davis and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain looking to push the pace with the no [Applause] huddle trying playaction fires left PS it in he will step out of bounds but but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense after taking another look just to confirm everything the officials on the field got it right play will stand at the 35 he's got roll touchdown akan and with that they move out front here in the fourth and this offense really showing their physicality running the football when it matters in the fourth quarter in crunch time to take the lead in this football game and the extra point is good and every Point counts it's now a fourpoint lead in the fourth almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown on the run from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Mall state gets it back the offense headed to the field how about that last drive just carved him up in the air David yeah and how about that quarterback you gave him the ball and he delivered the goods great job taking aart the defense Jesse on that last drive he really did David I mean that was a master class in just reading coverage and being accurate at the 35 he's open a huge gain on that one before he ran out of bounds and he has the first down man that is so tough when you play defense you get your eyes on your keys and you got to read them but sometimes they lied to you you could see the little misdirection by this offense fooled the defense created some space the offense took advantage and made a huge play he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple now on second down from the gun running back gets to give they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down after the last run would you just give it to him again on third down on the gun wants to pass and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up they're throwing for it on fourth down it's incomplete and they desperately needed to keep that drive going and they couldn't make the connection off the play fake on first down wants to throw and it just squirt ed through his hands he wanted to take off and got too anxious line getting set on second down he want that clock to run he stopped at the 48 a pick up of 10 on the play the Zips are in the hurry up you got to be impressed by how you've seen this offense finish in this football game they've been scoring points in the fourth quarter just got a touchdown on their last drive and there they rip off a big run they are not letting off the gas pedal right now and as a coach you love to see that looking to go up top on first down quickly to the tie at they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground to cover to pick up the first they'll give it to the back and you can forget running in the middle against this defense quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense takes it from the gun on third down and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down and the Zips will send out the punt unit making sure there's no return on that one as the punt sails out of bounds Ball State takes over the football and the Cardinal offense headed out that last Drive was promising at times but stalled out and they turned it over on Downs Jesse I think they got to do a better job here just being better early in the Downs on first down finding positive plays yeah and it's frustrating when you move the football and get stopped on the other side of the field and get no points but they've had some success and I like the aggressiveness they just got to cash some of these drives in a quick tackle made but he's got plenty for the first [Music] down used the play fake now to throw he's going up top here late in the game catch and stride inside the 15 defense is there to make the stop but he's got the first down and they'll have it first and goal at the six you know there's a lot of communication when it comes to defenses like you have to talk have to understand if somebody does this I have to do this I have to pass off wide receivers apparently some the communication was busted and if they want to take the lead can't be thinking field goal here they'll need a touchdown to go up in the fourth he's looking to throw Let It Go to The End Zone he just about put this game away if he'd been able to hold on to that one one instead it's second down the playaction fake looking for the score he had that one slipped to the ground and if he had held on that might have been a wrap instead it'll be third down from the gun wants to pass touchdown Ball State and they've moved out front here in the fourth what a great job by this off listen I judge offenses by what they do in the clutch in those big moments and right before the half in the fourth quarter late in the game just like right here you need to score you got to go take the lead they do everything they can now defense you're up I need you to get me a stop about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown and he'll bring it out of the end zone he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 the Zips take over and Aon ready to get that offense to work pressure coming got it set up on the outside finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down he's trying to get them set quickly they have to get the ball into field goal range caught near the sticks it's Davis great job in this two-minute drill as he gets out of bounds keeping the clock on their side as they're trying to pull it out that last big play has them in position to threaten here first and 10 from the 37 it's a draw they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one calling a timeout here you have to avoid making a mistake in this situation on second down just keeps firing escap and the pressure will get there the sack down he goes in the waning moments that could be a costly play on Third and long he'll need to loosen up that arm and the pass hits picked off they make the tackle after the turnover but hang on just a second there's a flag on the field let's see if it stands thought he had the huge play with the interception instead NAB for pi and it'll be first down for this offense going up top on first down and he intercepts it trying to take it back at the 30 he's at the 10 and with the interception he'll take it all the way back touchdown Cardinal I guess they wanted to make sure they rubbed a little salt in the wound here down the stretch and it's your job to stop it keep playing football I like it when the offense keeps the foot on the accelerator it's your job if you don't like it defensively do something about it [Applause] [Music] they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point extends the lead to double figures at 10 about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown and he's going to try to return this one I know he thinks he can house every return but sometimes you just have to take a knee as he stopped at the 14 he wants to start this drive with a pass ball in the air intercepted they didn't give him much on the return but they are in Prime scoring position at the 22 that should be the nail in the call what a great break on the football getting the big turnover you got the lead now just go out there be smart on offense and run that clock [Music] their work here is virtually done no need to take any more chances they'll line up in Victory formation quarterback will take a knee the defense can stop it one more time but we are close to being all she wrote well this was an offensive showcase out there today we thought it would be a high-scoring game and it's certainly delivered if you love offense then you love this type of game both offenses going going up and down the field seemingly it will throwing the ball is is for for [Music] for for is when you arrive in kenck stadium you know what's in store hard nose toughness defense and you better bring your hat and be ready to strike somebody when you come into this black and gold cauldron to take on the Hawkeye we're really looking forward to this matchup you've got a team that's made its way into the top 25 now trying to pass an all important road test as we'll see the number 19 team in the country The Ball State Cardinals taking on a team from the Big 10 the Iowa Hawkeye for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David Pollock and Jesse Palmer and guys can't wait to get this one started Hawkeyes will put to weather to crank us up here he comes from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 so ball State's offense is on the field for the first time today and not only is this guy the energy and the engine of the offense there's a certain Charisma that he has as it sort of elevates everyone around him he's got a Moxy about him ree just seems like when he's in the Huddle he's got 10 other sets of eyeballs looking at him and believing in him to lead this offense down the field towards scoring points this guy is a leader in every sense of the work on the option he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple this crowd going to try to make life miserable for these guys he's going to pass on second down he'll pull it down and run able to get just a few before sliding to avoid the hits better find the earplugs here comes the noise backing this defense on third down they'll try to get the first through the air snagged in the middle it's stcker they'll move the chains good execution on third down they've got it at the 41 wow and what a great job by that quarterback finding his open receiver on third down you know guys one of the most telling stats at the end of the game is third down conversion percentage if you're a great third down team it's invaluable to your offensive success and that's why teams drill third down so much in practice they'll run it from the gun sometimes people say if you're good enough what's a big deal about going on the road well if you're not careful you might find out in a spot like this one guys yeah no doubt about it this is a hostile environment and you know you're going to be getting the opponent's aame for this one they've circled this one and that ball is picked off and they'll drag him down after a good return on the interception this quarterback was having success throwing on the opening drive of the game large part because it's a lot harder to throw on third down when the defense is expecting it like you saw right there they were ready had a really good coverage called to get the int flying gets set first [Music] down the give to the back oh there's the ball defense coming up with a huge fumble recovery you know often times when you're playing in conditions like this and it's raining you'll see a lot of the skill players offensively take off the gloves because they want to be able to feel the football they think it gives them better control of it I don't know if that played into the football going on the ground there but you know ball security is going to be one of the biggest factors in this game moving forward Ball State gets it back the offense headed to the field that last Drive was promising for a while but you just can't mess it up at the end with the pick Jesse no you got to be able to finish drives especially in this game if you're going to win in David they've got to be able to eliminate the M of mistakes yeah and I don't think you get conservative play it safe you can trust your guy I think you put the ball right back in his hands and let him do his thing and he he is brought down but what a move he put on that first Defender pulls and fires it complete to the right didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few after trying the running game let's see if they do it again on second down from the gun the running back has it productive four yd gain there on the ground as he gets it down to the 31 and now on third down after that last run they'll try to run for it fakes his man out they thought they could just run it on Third and short but this defense was there to make the stop a field goal attempt from here would just be 48 yds but they'll try to move the chains on fourth down and short fights off the defender oh and what a move what a Juke and he makes it past the marker and the Cardinals are moving quickly down the field off the play fake on first down to throw wide open downfield TouchDown Ball State hold it in and just kept right on running to the Hallelujah land well I know it's a very small sample size and we've got a lot of football to go this year but what can you say about this offense how explosive and impressive have they look top five in the nation in scoring and you can see why they've got speed and playmakers all over the field [Music] now they'll line up for what they hope is [Applause] automatic and the pat makes it 7 nothing so a drive that started just beyond Midfield only 49 yds and no chance at a return here they'll start this drive at their own 25 Iowa has it back on offense hoping to ride the wave to the end zone that last fumble proved to be costly as they cashed it in for a touchdown yeah and so this defense now is Juiced they're excited and ready to go so this offense David they've got to get something going yeah those turnovers can be contageous man it gets you excited and then when your offense takes it down the field and does something with it this offense better be ready to play against a motivated defense couldn't find a lane a pick up of one to the 31 we'll see if they go back to the run here on third third down quickly out to the tight end and gang tackling on this dude is a good idea they needed it but he still got the first down and the Hawkeyes have it with a first and 10 he's looking to throw it can't hold on he had it right down the middle and he flat dropped it now on second down after the incompletion he's looking to throw finds his tight end you know I know know it seems like an easy pitch and catch but for the tight end there that route potentially changes if it's man coverage so good job by him knowing it's zone I'm just going to sit down this is basically like a checkdown right let's just take the easy pitch and catch and keep this drive going and they'll pick up the first down and Mark it at the 47 new set of downs after that completion to the air on first down fires to the big fella and they pick up just a few on that completion that completion leaves us with second and medium looking to throw quarterback strolling away from heat he's brought down but not before they pick up the big first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs wide receiver coming across in motion running back searching for a hole squeezes out a couple of yards down to the 32 picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down they'll keep it on the ground and he find some solid space makes a nice game before the defense is able to stop it Ball's at the 25 they're in field goal range but they' love to convert this third and short they'll try to bully their way for the first bust through behind his pan he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see which way that's going to go that penalty moves the ball back 10 yds will replay the down we've reach the end of one and as is tradition here in Iowa City we take a moment to say hi to the children of the University of Iowa stead family Children's Hospital hello kids always a treat to be here at Iowa and take part in a special moment hope these kids enjoy the rest of the game as we play on into the second quarter on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down they've decided to try to go for the field goal here he's going to reach for a long one a 52 yd attempt oh that one will leave a mark no good and they couldn't cut into the lead it's still a seven-point game Ball State and you back them off a little a little bit you get in a little bit of Rhythm it's really hard to stop Jesse and they're going to try to do it again right here and if you're this play caller you're loving what's happening right now because everything you dialed up on that last Drive ended up working out you're just looking at your play sheet everything you're picking is working let's see if they can pull it off again here from the gun they'll try to impose their will a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior Here Comes the offense on second down he's looking to throw fired that thing out in a heartbeat but it's incomplete debb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down they're trying to get to it they get enough rush and it pays off the sack at the 20 not a ton of play calls for third in California when you're on have to have your [Applause] quarterback the offense set for a first down play from the gun the ground game all right well look I know the defense was feeling real good about their run de coming into this one and how they've been playing up to this point but finally David the offense breaks through and they finally generate something positive on the ground and I can't tell you how easy it is when you're going to throw the ball consistently and I know it I'm going to pin my ears back and I'm going to get to the quarterback it makes life really easy on the defensive line but when you can have balance now the defense doesn't know what's coming they need more of this if they're going to be successful on offense and they'll bring him down after and out Jesse he just had no rhythm in that last drive so someone's going to have to step up and make a play David and get this thing going yeah let's find some juice find your guy find those plays that you know you can run inside out forward backwards get some first downs get some positive momentum unloads to the wide out and that's going to be incomplete a lot of contact on the play but no Flags it'll be third down from the gun wants to pass throws for the the tight end another incompletion on third down the Hawkeyes will call on their punt team this will be the second time they've had to kick it away they'll put a stop to that return at about the 37 yd line on first down here comes this offense now on the option now the pitch Powers through the defender and that's what this option will do to you they got the pitch man free and he was Off to the Races from the 47 yd line on First and 10 the give to the left side not much working there it'll be second and nine tried to pound it on first down now back to the [Applause] line and his first throw here is incomplete they couldn't connect on second down now staring at a third and [Applause] nine from the gun wants to pass escapes trouble going to try to get it himself he is brought down but man what a job to find some Running Room and move the chains receivers telling the quarterback what they see trying to get the edge on the toss he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple they'll line up for a second down play he's looking to throw pocket starts to collapse just can't pull the trigger and the quarterback is sacked at the 41 and that's backto back games this guy's not to sack starting to be a problem a guy that's diagnosing passes rushing the passer really really well this defense could use this guy's production consistently Here Comes This Home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down looking to throw and he needs a chunk play and the defense gets loose bringing the Heat and down he goes again great job by the pass rush up front third and one [Applause] let's see what they've got on second down give to the running back makes the stop at the 32 but he picks up 10 on that play they'll snap this one from the 32 it's first down right back to the well not much he could do there does pick up two to the 34 after picking up a couple it's second and eight Red Pass it's complete they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker these fans stepping up to help this defense on third down and they'll move the chains and get it to the 47 yd line and the Cardinals are flying down the field to the ground he's got it again just a solid stop by this sophomore picked up two yds on that last when they need eight on second down he's looking to throw now adjusting they finally get him on the ground but not before he rips off enough for a first down the Cardinals will have it first and 10 hand off from the gun nice move to pick up yardage and he does a really nice job finding open space and making a good gain before the stop is made they'll ride Davis here and this one will be stopped for No Gain they're trying to extend this already long drive the ninth play is a third and three they'll try to pick it up on the ground moving deeper into enemy territory move the chains it's first down at the 27 long drive continues as the offense keeps working the ball down the field and he fights his way forward gets away from one but not much doing on that one got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 caught in the back field it's zacker they make the stop right there good pickup it's still short of the first down this crowd knows when to bring it they'll go to the air on Third and short almost intercepted and what a momentum swing that could have been but they still force a fourth [Applause] down they'll try to pick up the first and the Cardinals get the first down this offense has had the ball so long the opposing offense was still using a pacifier the last time they had it they'll run it they want to take their time here they get him on the ground but not before he rumbles all the way to the five we've reached the two-minute warning in this offense trying to milk this clock and keep time on their side a first down run in the red zone and he'll get this one back to the line of scrimmage but no farther than that they'll use a timeout here you have to be certain at this point in the game he'll run it to the middle looking for the end zone and he gets it back to the four yd line no farther than that no gain on the play referee signals timeout it's the defense wanting to make sure that they have everything just right with a big play coming and he's brought down after the spin move for a short gain timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible so on fourth down here comes the field goal kicker in a huge spot absolutely perfect and that will extend their lead even further you know it's funny in an age where there's so many college football analytics and everybody wants to go for it on fourth down at the end of the day it still comes down to managing the game good decision by the head coach here in the fourth quarter by kicking that field goal you've now made it a two-possession game your chances of winning this thing have now gone way up Iowa has it back on offense hoping to ride the wave to the end zone and that incomplete pass caused by the big hit on first down second down coming couldn't make the connection last this time let's see if they throw it again fires to the wide out going to throw it to the right he's got his man he threw that one with some serious Heat this senior quarterback doesn't need a lot of space to get it in [Music] there they'll throw it on first down got him in it's Hoffman he's R out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down hey you know the defense here in this situation with a huge lead they've got to anticipate that this offense is going to be trying to throw the ball to the sideline so they've got to work different coverages to try to force the quarterback to go over the middle of the field with the football on the move at the 30 just what this offense was looking for sets him up at the 26 with the first down everybody has to be set they have to get it off [Music] they'll throw it on first down and he just flat dropped it I think he wanted to run before he secured it and here comes the offense on second down he's looking to throw feeling some heat nowhere to go with the ball and down he goes at the 39 got to get to the line quickly for this third down play looking downfield and he needs a bunch he finds his man RS a crease at the 20 he's R out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down and the Hawkeyes have taken it inside the 20 trying to get to him here comes the rush and they've got him wrapped up at the 28 quick Tempo no huddle offense second down clock's running got to get everybody to the line and Spike it to stop the clock defense getting stingier in their own end of the field it's third and long from the 28 looking to throw and he needs a bunch it is incomplete and he almost had himself an interception in the end zone it'll be fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down going back to the well another deep ball and it'll be intercepted in the end zone and the senior just took that one out of the air and sends it the other way and that's a really good job by the defense understanding the situation of football it's fourth down it's late in the game you got a multi-p possession lead take away all the Deep stuff make them Force the football into coverage they do and they stamp this game so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty first down for this offense the give is to Williams nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry with the clock running this should be the final [Applause] play the old coaching cliche go one and0 every week and for the first week they get it done yeah great start to the season that's what you want you want to come out find a way to win was it perfect absolutely not you're going to find things to work out on throughout the season but 1 and0 that's where you wanted to be and I think if you're the coaching staff of this winning team you've got to like what you've just seen first game of the year there was tremendous effort on the field guys flying around flying to the football for
