for since this V stadium was erected in the Pennsylvania Hills it has been the home to toughness to Passion to winning welcome to Happy Valley and Beaver Stadium home to the Penn State nitty lions and boy do we have a fun one ahead top 10 team Target on their back going on their Road and right into the snake pin as we'll see a team fresh and ready to go off of my week the Oregon Ducks taking on another team from the Big 10 the Penn State nney lions for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis David poock and Jesse Palmer with me guys it's time to get it [Applause] [Music] going the nly Lions will put tow to weather to crank us up but see what he can get done from inside his own 15 ni he's just enough space across the 25 let's mark it at the 27 yd line they challenged this crowd to bring the energy and I'd say they're doing that wasting no time throwing on this drive what a snag by the defense going the other way and he's got room touchdown pen State a great return for the touchdown any return for a touchdown is a great one to a defense you always want to come out set the tone as a defense get a stop make a punt look like this get the int and take it back to the house when has set the tone to this defense [Applause] [Music] getting set for the point after and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game they'll kick it off and send that defense right back out there to try to score again after the pick six he'll bring it back from inside the 15 able to find enough room to get it out across the 25 he's brought down at the 26 the Ducks ready to go back to work on offense well the good news is they threw a touchdown pass last time it was just to the wrong team Jesse well that's an unfortunate part of the game for quarterbacks but guess what they do happen so you've got to be able to turn the page here and leave this offense well I think you know this defense is going to be aggressive they're going to jump routes they're going to play aggressive you got to take advantage of that maybe use that this time to your advantage they can rely on this guy to pick up solid yardage when they need it and he's out to the 43 sometimes people say if you're good enough what's a big deal about going on the road but if you're not careful you might find out in a spot like this one guys yeah no doubt about it this is a hostile environment and you know you're going to be getting the opponent's aame for this one they've circled this one all off SE so they better be ready to bring it today DAV and the hardest thing to do in college football is to go on the road everything about it changes and you want to shut this crowd up early you don't want to give them belief cuz if it starts to build throughout the game look out more to the air those two not on the same page it's incomplete well third and short the offense dials up the screen expecting the pass rush to come up field manto man but it just simply does not work defense stays home and force the incompletion all the numbers and stats will show you going for it on fourth down in this area of the field really puts pressure on a defense finds him out of Back Field not much of a fourth down gamble when it's that much of a sure thing an easy conversion for this offense throws a nice completion there for a first down this guy has been the biggest key to this team success all season long he has shown up in big moments he's won big games he's putting up big num numbers and that's why he's in the discussion to win the Heisman Trophy the Ducks are rolling down the field from the gun to G looking for room and he's able to shed one tackle and gets a pretty good pickup 6yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four from the gun they'll try to impose their will just enough room to gain a couple down to the 34 you know runs like this often times are like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into longer ones he'll throw on third down swings it out to the flat he ended up going backwards on the play and they will not convert that third down well they were counting on winning the one-on-one battle they got the completion but the yardage didn't work out yeah and a lot of times man that's what I do on short yardage situation short make my guy fall forward for a couple yards try to get the first down but it was a good tackle and the receiver got absolutely nowhere after the catch the incomplete pass fourth down fails and they'll turn it over that's a big time drop right there fourth down opportunity to catch it maybe get the first down that is that is tough to swallow but it's a QB I got to walk over TR so listen dude we're going to need you later on I still believe in you turns it on in Midfield defense caught out of position and they get him down finally at the 38 defense is going to have their hands full trying to stop this guy they better rally to the football and get multiple hats cuz he is not easy to bring [Applause] down it's first and 10 from the 38 yd line they'll give it to him again and he found plenty of Running Room on that one before the defense was finally able to get him down and the NIT Lions took those plain headgears got their box and picked up the first down yeah and those headgears are a staple aren't they of college football I know exactly what you're talking about those beautiful helmets they don't change very much very traditional Penn State keeps it simple being traditional running the football out of the gun the running back has it he get him down Tough Run picks up four they'll mark it at the 19 after the productive first down play it's second and six oh and they'll try to catch him with pass got his man quickly dragged down to the turf but not before getting the first down ever since they invented the forward pass the tight ends have been running the drag and getting the first down I think it's because the tight ends is so much versatility you know they can block and stay in the formation or they can release and come out but either way if the quarterback's patient most of the time that drag route's going to come over they go to the ground good pick up on that play it'll bring up second and four keep pounding away at this defense and make them play the run if you can get this many a chunk they're going to have to commit more guys to the Box more guys to the run then you open it up for the passing game operating in the Red Zone here on second down they'll keep it on the ground knocked down after a gain of one they'll mark it at the six quick timeout by the defense here trying to make sure everyone has the same call they'd love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and goal using his feet he'll be stopped just short of the end zone but they'll have it first and goal and that quarterback can go just another guy in another system all across college football all quarterbacks nowadays they got so much speed it's ridiculous man I'm telling you that has to be exhausting for the defensive lineman trying to chase down guys like that it's silly because even when it's a design play and it's a design run like here fine but then it's scramble plays and then it's passing plays he's always a r just exhausted of BR up [Applause] Ang that's the of the first starting off this quarter close enough to smell the goal line we they'll keep it on the ground looking for the End Zone he's got it down to the one yd line right on the doorstep of P as a quarterback you've got to know in this area of the field it's tough to throw right the windows they open and close so quickly when you get down to the Red Zone what helps you is running the football but that's tough today cuz you're going up against one of the top 25 defenses stopping the Run man it has been a long drive offensively I just feel like you got to pay this off and be aggressive you're down close punch it in for a touchdown here po yeah and inside the three yd line I think I might try to finish this off with a touchdown I ate up a ton of clock wore these guys out now they'd have to go the length of the field if I missed alert alert alert trying to run it in and he takes it to the house touchdown niy Li make no mistake about it bring in the beef right bring in all the extra offensive l in the tight end you know what we're going to do we're going to line up and we are going to smash fourth and goal situation they are successful playing a little bully ball with the big boys up front lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point makes it 14 nothing so the touchdown Drive goes 63 yds and they capped it off with a Oney pun [Music] about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown takes it inside his own 20 chance for great field position here maybe if he could have eluded just one or two more guys it would have been a big return but they'll mark it at the thir [Applause] and Oregon has it back and here comes the offense this is when the pressure can ramp up a little bit on an offense David when they start feeling the heat to answer a score and I think being down 14 you can kind of feel that way but dude if you put a good drive together this is a seven-point game so caller no need to pay I was just going to say David I mean this thing can fli quick you go down score all of a sudden your defense gets a stop or who knows better yet gets a turnover this game is entirely different they finally get him stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some range for their running back the offense setting up shop at the 46 first and 10 Moore will throw makes the grab on the left and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain and that's kind of a lot of today's running game right spit the ball out Qui get it to your Playmakers in space get positive yards it's instead of running the ball a couple yards up the middle now you just spit it out wide and a lot of times if you break a few tackles it could be even bigger now here on second down see if they keep tossing it [Applause] around he's looking to throw that pass is incomplete and they're probably fortunate it wasn't knock free for a fumble it's hard throwing in the pocket man you got bodies and 300 lb dudes falling all over the place they're trying to hit you that time the pressure got to him and force the incompletion better find the earplugs here comes the noise backing this defense on third down that'll be enough for the first down as they stop him at the 43 yd line all right well look I know the defense was feeling real good about their run de coming into this how they've been playing up to this point but finally David the offense breaks through and they finally generate something positive on the ground and I can't tell you how easy it is when you're going to throw the ball consistently and I know it I'm going to pin my ears back and I'm going to get to the quarterback it makes life really easy on the defensive line but when you can have balance now the defense doesn't know what's coming they need more of this so they're going to be successful on [Applause] offense the incompletion on first down leaves him with second and 10 from the Flor 43 misfired on the last play they'll go back to the air and he's lucky to get that one back this junior quarterback knows better than to try that too often if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum on Third and long try to convert through the air a little scream to the running back defense was not fooled by that scream to the back and they stop him short of the marker it'll be fourth down it's a nice effort by the running back but in that third and long situation just too much work for that running back to convert that third down really nice job got to give the defense credit they surrounded him got him to the ground looking down the middle he's got a first down and maybe a lot more well they just drained all the suspense out of the fourth down conversion moving the chains easily now the chance to pay off that big play from just outside the five with the run on first and goal and he Wales in for the score touchdown Oregon and this running back is so dangerous down close to the end zone he's got wiggle he's got great vision and burst and he showed all of those attributes right [Applause] there now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and after the extra point they've cut the lead in half down 14-7 and let's check in with Kevin Conor in the studio Kevin fellas it's a final now in one of the more intriguing games of the week that notable top 25 Clash Nevada handled its business today and given what the week was like in Reno that is saying something this is a focused group and it's reflected in that final score each week in college football the tests are just so tough and we found that out again today guys with another ranked team going down kin thanks a lot for that one tell as if they had a good one there going up top on first down using the quick game and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up you know sometimes even a short game like that can be used to set up something bigger later on no doubt Rees they can pump that and take a shot down the field and don't worry they're going to go back to that same play cuz they know this guy with the ball in his hands is dangerous he makes one guy Miss he can take it to the house and he'll move his way forward to the first down they'll mark it at the 35 the NY lions in the hurry up the whole Penn State Legacy is built on toughness getting it done on the ground and they pick up a first down and you got to start there with the physicality the ground game getting that going it's kind of a Northeast thing right being tough being physical bringing that lunch pail the nitty lions come to the line with a new set of downs TOA sweep to the right not a whole lot of room there three yards maybe second and seven now that's what you're trying to do as a defense limit those damages when they run the football get them on the ground short gains to set your defense for positive situations down the road after the three- ydd pickup they come to the line Second and seven on the run it's Singleton at the 35 he's got room there he goes down the right side touchdown pen State and once he found daylight it was Katy Bar the Door baby huge play it's so nice to have guys that can create these EXP plays like this you hand it to him he can do the rest look at the speed look at the elusiveness get into the end zone nice row and the extra point puts him on top 21-7 a very efficient five Place scoring drive and they finish that thing off in style with a 49 yd touchdown [Music] [Applause] run the KCK off team on the field as they'll send this one away looking for an alley from inside his own 20 they put the brakes on him but a good return out to the 36 [Applause] the Ducks ready to go back to work on offense not a lot of time left here in the half let's see if they can cut into this lead and this drive isn't a must score but man you look at the scoreboard you're down two scores Jesse you got a good opportunity create some momentum cut it to a onore game this is an important possession yeah it's important to create that momentum now David to not wait to get it going here at the start of the Third you got one drive here to get a couple of points You' got to start erasing and chipping away at this deficit this could be where the game turns right here more to the air he's right on target the Ducks get enough to move the chains there's got to be a sense of urgency for this offense right now they're trailing they're going to be kicking off to open the second half so they need points need to go Tempo maybe that last first down gets them a little bit of conf B to grab the 25 and there's room ripping through the defense and getting it all the way down to the 24 yd line it's one thing to get that huge play now you got to cash it in with six first and 10 from the 24 safe completion on the screen finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down and this offense is built around this dude I mean he is Sensational he's been so fun to watch like play pitch and catch spread the ball around complete and total command of the offense and that's why he's putting up big numbers and that's why he's got a real chance to go to New York and try to win that Heisman Trophy and the ducks have taken it inside the 20 give to the back and I think they'll give him two on that one second and eight coming up going to work in the Red Zone they can't be Pi up the first down without getting it into the end zone and off from the shotgun he'll be brought down at the 5 yd line and this defense is on its heels you got to think there's 11 guys on defense right now heeing in on this running back they've watched the tape they've seen this guy gash defenses he scored a boatload of touchdowns this season you're anticipating him getting the football here they're bringing heat oh he needs to get rid of he needs to do something and he will go down what a terrible terrible play and a big [Applause] loss and they'll send out the field goal unit they pick the spot it's going to be about a 37 yd attempt never a doubt right down the [Applause] middle so they get the field goal now about to kick it away and you got a stop here and you go to halftime feeling really good about things fair catch called for and me pen State sends the offense back onto the field they've got some time to work with here Jesse and if they get a first down they might really get aggressive I'd be aggressive right out of the gate I'd be throwing for a first down if I get it then it's pedal to the metal I'm in that two-minute mode to try to score a touchdown or get a field but I do think this is a situation where you also have to understand that I have the lead going into the half I've got the momentum so don't do anything stupid here on the move it's Singleton they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime trying to turn the corner on the right he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three offense calls a timeout here critically important to make sure they have the right play called and everyone on the same page [Applause] here just enough time for one final play in this half easy unlock on fourth down trying to keep the drive alive with the run here they stop him short of the marker and they'll turn it over on down that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with the half timee update the Ducks will kick it away to crank up the second half from inside the 15 here comes the return just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 the Dy Lions going back to work on offense now if it's working might change it and that running game was working in the first half I imagine we'll see a lot more of it here in the third quarter and you just know the offensive mind was telling their coordinator put this on us let us continue to go out there push these guys around we can put this game on our back and end this thing by running the ball and this is a manhood question for this defense like as a defensive lineman and you're pounding the rock pounding the rock like I got to physically rise to this challenge this defense has to play more inspired and More Physical in the second half wants to throw it's Allard firing to the right complete gets away from one find some space he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense QBs when you see Zone covers man can you manipulate defense when you have a good pocket and you've got time to throw you had a little bit of time to throw you can move guys with your eyes that drag comes wide open good throw good catch first down and a good solid pick up there before the defense knocks him down now you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense eight- yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and short they'll keep it on the ground at the 35 he's loose running wide open Down the Gun of the field touchdown Nittany Lions he broke away from the defense and they couldn't catch him the Mantra is always finished and they're trying to do that here in the regular season with this week 12 performance he's going to get a property tax bill in the end zone because this guy is spending a lot of time there he might start start taking aim as some of those nitty lion touchdown records and those are some records I mean you start talking about Larry Johnson seor Barkley and all the kaj Carter going back I mean so many great running backs at M state to be on that list to be talked about in that game I think you're having yourself a [Music] [Applause] day about to kick it away after scoring the touch down from inside the 15 chance for a good return couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 [Applause] and Oregon has it back and here comes the offense they're going to have to be more aggressive in this drive you can't expect to win this one David kicking field goals no especially when you're trailing you got to have a little more urgency and maybe a little more aggressiveness Jesse and the field goals are not going to get it done down the stretch yeah you're going to have to take some shots no doubt bottom line when plays present themselves you just simply got to in after the incompletion it's second and 10 from their own 25 unloads to the wide out and that pass will be Jarred loose on second down that brings up third down you can sense the frustration building on the field and on the sideline for this team because on paper they're the better team from a player standpoint from a record standpoint things just not going their way in this game and someone's going to have to step up and make a play to turn this thing around and this offense can ill afford to come up empty on this drive already trailing by multiple possessions grabbed in the middle it's sticky and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop on fourth down looking to pass trying to burn this defensive back and the incomplete pass turns it over in their own end well this point of the game in the second half down through possessions you're not punting anymore right every fourth down you're going to be going for regardless of where you are on the field problem is defense knows it too so they're going to play call accordingly that time they had a better play call on they execute it's just been that kind of day for this offense an unforced error there they don't get the snap off in time they'll decline that penalty obviously very happy with results of the and six when you're a defense it is stop the run first that is your first responsibility it makes the whole game easy and right now they got it going on the ground the defense is going to have to change something up these little tiny Dink and dunk Dink and dunk you keep doing this they'll go all the way down the field on you so you might want to get a little bit more aggressive solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six looking for room it's Singleton they'll get him on the ground after a pick up of three to the 28 third they'll snap it from the 28 in field goal range but it's third and short leaves it with the back and the defense had its hands full but they finally wrestle him down short of the first down I think you run that ball right there knowing that I'm going to run it again on fourth down I'm going to go for it on fourth down I got another play nice job by that defensive line not getting moved around making a play they got to get one more stand right here and they're going to try to convert on fourth down for two so far [Applause] today they'll try to pick up the first will not get there a fourth down stop and how about the defense coming up big on Fourth and short you know they're going to run the football great job stacking the Box getting the big [Applause] stop the Ducks ready to go back to work on offense these last couple of drives Jesse have been about the defense making clutch stand I think for this offense they can stay aggressive knowing that their defense is going to bail them out time and time again here yeah and especially when you go for those four down situations you do that a lot of times because you know your defense can make stands make stops they did on that last possession field here's the hand off and how about that interior defense stuffing the run for nothing I think the offensive coordinators over there going thank goodness we don't play them every this defense has been suffocating this offense got to find something moving forward they can hang their hat on some kind of identity today they were shut down but listen there's a game next week right like got to continue to find what it is that that makes this team go that makes him tick that makes him get first downs and and hopefully move the footall a third down play to open up this quarter Mo will throw fires to the wide out makes the grab and this junior loves to show off that Big Arm late in the year this guy is square in the middle of the Heisman Trophy discussion because of his performance he throws a nice completion there for a first down but it's been week in week out big moments he's LED this team to a ton of wins he is their best player looking for a physical attack from the gun creating some space getting just enough good blocking and they've got it up to the 47 yd line and this running back right now is sending a very clear message he doesn't want to just be known as a guy that can run around you to run away from you he wants you to know he can lower the shoulder and get those tough yards if need be halfway there on first down it's second and [Applause] five they'll go right back to him and they try the middle of this Stout defense and they rise to the challenge this NY lion defense has just been suffocating the seven has been dominant guys like Jack ham would be proud yeah just big physical just owning the guys up front Nowhere to Run nowhere to hide the Penn State de line just dominating this football let's see what they do on third down from the gun wants the pass fires the pass intercepted those kind of plays can be huge for momentum even with the short return they're set up at the 45 nice job by this defense that might be the exclamation for fourth quarter I got to lead bring on the nickel defense you know they're passing the football for plays just like that to make the int and almost put this one away and state sends the offense back onto the field they've got it back after that last Drive stalled out and they were stopped on fourth down David yeah and they put a little bit of a drive together but Jesse they stalled on the other side of the field and they got to find a way to keep that momentum going as they get closer to the end zone I agree I I do like their mindset though and I think they need to continue being aggressive moving forward in this game he is torching the defense and nitty Lions imposing their will with the running game in big days I Larry Johnson or k Carter and what does that do that puts you on the stage the big stage to win the big award the big trophies at the end of the year to be called one of the best backs in all of college football that's what he's chasing didn't get much on first down it's second and nine relo they'll try to keep this clock moving on the ground they make the stop after a pick up of three just inside the red zone at the 19th we reached the two-minute warning and this offense will'll be quite content just to drain the rest of the time away they're facing a third down 29 aler alert on the run it's Singleton and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions [Applause] absolute sh missed it and after the Miss fellas still sitting on an 18-point lead on first down here comes this offense and the quarterback takes the snap and kneels down yeah and this offense man they just continue to struggle and just they need to find something that they do really really well and running the football late in the fourth quarter when you're getting beat by a good bit that's probably not it this offense needs to hit the gas and they need to pitch and catch a little bit throw the football around [Applause] and they are looking for a ball play that'll work now facing second and long from the 19 out of the gun they give to the back may not be the most memorable play of the day but it's important as he gets them out to the 25 yd line and a nice job by the running back finding space getting downhill making the good run great job finishing with his BS this is the football equivalent of throwing in the towel or no Moss as they will seed [Applause] defeat on winning those individual sixc battles every Play Time After Time After Time After Time and that leads to a victory here and I love when teams go out and play like it's sudden death like if they lose the game their entire season is over this game wasn't for the national championship but would you wouldn't know that watching this winning team David tremendous effort and tremendous execution I love competitive people I love competitive coaches I love competitive teams that they know that their job is to go out and get a w no matter how no matter where you play you want to play in the parking lot we'll go meet you great job of this team being ready getting the W that's going to do it for us from here
