welcome everybody to what should be a memorable experience for everybody here in the building the Big 12 championship game has a history of wild dramatic finishes and based on this match up today we could be in for another one we're going to be treated to not just a top 10 matchup but a battle for a conference Championship and an automatic F to the college football playoff with the first round buy that goes with it so a lot at stake here as we'll see the number six team in the country the Arizona State sundevils taking on the second ranked team the Arizona Wildcats for EA Sports college football I'm Chris fer joined here in the booth by Kirk her street Kirk let's get to the action on the field [Applause] kickoff team out there getting ready and this is it the battle for the conference championship trophy bringing it out it's round and they stop him short of the 25 there offense begins at the 22 first down play call how aggressive will it [Applause] be the Circle Drive with a quick throw to the left side and he heads out of bounds after gaining a few yards I love how this quarterback is finding this slot receiver not only is he tough to handle but it's what he's doing after the catch he has such wiggle and quickness he's tough to bring down you see more positive yards after the catch here they'll test the right side here tackled behind the line it's a loss of two the sundevils come up to the line in the hurry up [Applause] he's got it for a big game tackles made but not before he makes the 43 yd line this drive is going now that's exactly what you want to see here from this offense a big third down conversion offensive line did their job giving a quarterback enough time great read good execution throws the ball accurately now you got some momentum going here on this opening drive the Sun Devil starting new series here on First and 10 offense looking to throw the ball makes the ground it's scbo breaking free at the 35 he's brought down but there is a penalty marker out there let's check out this call pretty easy call for the head coach he will accept that penalty of course first and 10 play coming up there's the snap quarterback setting up to throw and it's incomplete the defender arrive the same time as the football and now it's second down what a hit there by the defender tough for the receiver hold on to the football but he has that kind of contact good clean play by the defense [Applause] incompletion sets up a second [Applause] down there's the snap looking to throw the ball makes the grab on the Move brought down at the five after the completion defense getting a push back an important third down conversion coming here in the red zone defense trying to Jam these receivers at the line and a quick timeout call by the offense after the play this is crucial defense needing a stop on third down trying to force a field goal and the quarterback just sneaks it he gets to the end zone touchdown Sund setting the tone early for how about the execution opening drive of a conference Championship yeah Chris I'm with you usually it takes you maybe a series or kind to get settled in especially with all the hyp but not this offense got to give them a lot of credit they were ready to go and it really showed up on that opening drive and it's seven nothing after the P here's the kickoff team Now set to boot this one away fielded In The End Zone it's Johnson he'll be stopped short of the 20 yd line good job by the coverage [Applause] team first down play call coming up how agressive will it [Applause] be out of the shotgun he'll hand it off finds room at the 30 oh he breaks free it's a foot race at the 20 pass the 10 and he takes it all the way to the end zone touchdown wild pass what a touchdown anytime you see a play go for that many yards everything has to come together the offensive line did their job the running back's vision and instincts and speed and the play caller setting up the perfect Personnel Group formation and play call it all came together and they get the big score kickoff team on the field getting set now bringing it out it's [Applause] brown and back comes the Arizona State offense onto the field remember last time they scored a touchdown can they keep clicking here over the defense come up with a stop they stop him right at the 24 great job by the offensive line here opening up some holes and giving the running back room to run on first down plays like this can open up the playbook for the play caller allow him to make that defense think they're going to run maybe play action maybe throw the ball down field he flips it to the back across the middle May wrap him up and the gain is good enough for a first down defense kind of lost the running back here makes a nice catch gets the first down in the process fresh set it Downs for the offense first down quarterback drops back and it falls incomplete the defensive pressure freed to throw that time we know it's not an easy job to go out and catch passes when people trying to tackle you and knock the ball away but the bottom line is that's a pass you got to have to come up with and make a catch now it's second down here and the back now goes in motion quarterback looking to pass here on second down a short completion of the tight end they finally make the stop but a huge gain mes the ball into enemy territory down at the 49 this is what coaches love to see a quarterback with the ability to read the defense properly and then just get it to the open man sometimes it sounds simple but it's tough to execute this time we have good recognition by the quarterback then he gets it down to the tight end you can see what he can do after the catch looking to throw it on first down let's a fly out of the wide out physical defending that one Falls incomplete brings up second down [Applause] play action fake looking to throw hit as he releases it and the pass ball is incomplete well the defense does a really nice job here not only pressuring the quarterback but not tipping their hand with coverage they went to double coverage but didn't late they confused the quarterback and they almost came up with an interception so the offense getting set this is not where you want to be against this defense third and long moving the receiver around pre- snap drops back looking to throw for it on third down oh downfield catch made in the left side and he picks up the first down tackled at the 32 nice playaction call here by this offensive coordinator you you can freeze those linebackers just for a split second usually that's going to give you enough room to be able to get that tight end behind them and if the quarterback can make a nice tight throw like this pick up some big yards on First and 10 looking to throw from the Paca delivers over the middle good enough for first down yardage tackle is made but the junior quarterback shows off his arm strength that time it's really good timing here between the quarterback and the receiver and how about the receiver down field does a nice job finding that open space in the zone of the defense and as a defense you're just basically throwing your hands up in the air because they had that covered relatively well just a good play call and good execution they bring him down but he was fast enough to get that first down [Applause] yardage and he'll set up to throw he's got it near the end zone brought down at the two after the catch the offense close to punching it in pretty good coverage here by this defense not much of a window to throw this ball into but the quarterback's accuracy and the size the tight end picks up a nice game offense facing second and goal press coverage now from the secondary and looks like the quarterback's going to run it makes it across the goal line touchdown ASU now the try here for the extra point the extra point is good so it's 147 now the kickoff team is out on the field fielded In The End Zone it's Johnson and he's tackled at the 25 Sav fight it would have been and he left it in the end zone [Applause] in the first play of the drive now the 25 from the shotgun it's a handoff defense makes the tackle as the final seconds of this first quarter run out [Applause] here we go first play of the quarter offense setting up for a second down play offense moving receivers around now before the snap looking to throw it's beid throws it to the right finds Man Down field it's a big gain to the right and now the defense able to bring him down the running back that time just kind of sneaks out of the back field CH his hands on that nice catch it's third down for the offense try and muscle for the first down tack but only after picking up a fresh set of downs Chris the consistency of this back is given this defense fits they've got to come up with some changes up front this guy's already over 50 yards and if he keeps running the way he is not only is he having a great day but it's going to give this quarterback a chance to hit some big plays down field off play action he lets it go on the Move catch made a lot of space now that's a great catch near the sideline and does a good job of getting that down to secure the catch this Arizona offense is moving quickly down the field quak making adjustments now to what the defense is showing on First and 10 they'll look to throw it SS a quick throw and he breaks the tackle in the L of a solid game there and there's the tight end who shows off his hands that completion sets up a second down play they'll try the left side with a toss they tackle him behind the line a loss of four Bo this defense is strong up front linebackers are flying downhill able to make plays against this run game now they get this offense to another third down now you pressure that quarterback and try to build on the [Music] lead the come to the line a long way to go for the first down but needing this crucial conversion right now and he'll drop back here on third down for his tight why you running so deep the F away for the defense he's got some open field ahead at the 30 now look at at the STI and he throw yard spe athletic ability on the return I thought he was going to take it all the way back but the offense just enough to keep him out of the end zone first and goal here for the [Applause] offense they'll hand it off they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one I think we all kind of get caught up in third down what what's an offense doing on third down but I think what's also important is how well you defend first down if you can hold your opponents to a short gain or a tack lo you throw the offense out of whack and their game plan gets much more challenging to try to come up with that first and he runs it into the end zone touchdown Arizona State set up for the PC p is good they're pulling ahead now 217 kickoff team is on the field to boot this one away bringing it out it's Hunter solid coverage there they get him at the 15 that's where the offense will take over here comes the Arizona offense back out on the field they had it going the last drive but it ended abruptly with the interception let's see what they can do [Applause] here I'm out the [Applause] pocket okay I guess they say they got to get back and [Applause] bl getting set here's second down looks like the QB is changing the play at the line quarterback looks to throw again from his own End Zone that one Falls incomplete looking for a flag doesn't get it brings up third down this is the one thing I love about this running back is his ability to get involved in the pass game runs a great route just then come down with a catch and he's going to stretch the defense taking a deep shot here what a pitch and catch by the quarterback and receiver for a big gain for this offense new set of downs after that completion we go Motion by the back will make the defense adjust here's the throw deep down field that's going to be incomplete first down drop you're in the middle of the field that's a misfire there Chris his passing game has got to be able to get into sink and find a rhythm so after the incompletion it's second [Music] down he it off from [Applause] theack that QB sneak that you got from the sixy line that wasn't inad of running around back elected to run right through him third down here time for know that ain't the case that Ain that ain't a guarantee that ain't a guarantee not with the way his wearing te was he D should have f with that n he not I know third this yeah yeah you need keep n you had to blast somebody different for sure looking the pass it's the can't hold on good defensive play BRS a fourth down man on your own side of the field you're playing a risky game here third and short your goal should just be keep this drive alive the best way you can sometimes is just hand the ball off to your running back and have him get behind that offensive line and go to war curious to see what they do now here on this fourth and short he finds his Target he has the first they've got him but they convert on fourth down and the drive keeps going for the defense is in the right coverage here looked like they had exactly what they wanted to be able to come up with a stop here on fourth down but there's the timing between a quarterback and the receiver exactly where they needed to go great timing and a first down looking to throw now on first down that's a bullet right into the heart of the field the catch is made for a huge pick up all the way to the end zone touchdown Arizona now the important point after attempt do this good down by touchdown 214 K team has come on the field now to send this one away Fields it inside the 5 yd line and the return it will be brought down [Applause] and the Arizona State offense comes back out on the field little bit of my turn your turn so far in the early going both offenses scoring touchdowns in their last possessions looking to set up a screen pass here down but gain first the Suns willle to the line here to run the hurry up first down looking to throw the football oh the tight end it's complete but he's hammered by the linebacker what a hit second down after that completion he'll hand it off stop at the 36 that's good enough to move the sticks look I realize on any play call from properly executed they can go to the house for a touchdown but the runs that really make a game plan work are the get just what you need and he barely got the first down but he got it and the sundevils will line up on First and 10 quarterback looking to connect with the receiver here and it's caught way down field inside the 35 he could not stop him he's in touchdown sundevils picking team on now for the extra point with the extra point the lead 14 so after the touchdown here's the kickoff and we'll see if the opposing offense has time to answered before half time fielded In The End Zone it's Johnson solid job by the coverage team they bring him down at the 16 how did you take the T yeah you w't supposed to do that okay so the Arizona offense head back out of the field now they've got a choice here in the final minute do they get aggressive TR to cut into this lead or play it safe and point toward the second half no way he dropped that I already knew what time it was though I thought he was going to come down with it but the defense all the credit with a big hit to knock thatall loose that play makes it second and 10 to the air it's ba looks to his left and makes the completion heads out of bounds after a solid gain more than enough to pick up a first down you know we talked this week with the offensive coordinator about what makes this receiver so special he kept referring to his route running here's an example of that great route enough separation to give the quarterback a nice Lane to throw the football first down here for this offense quarterback sets up looking for an open man the pocket breaking Downs the B up as he's hit but it's incoe I really hit R1 your defensive coordinator it's all about affecting the quarterback and getting pressure on him this time they got to him and forced that incompletion offense lines up for a second down play off the incompletion off play action he's looking to throw rifles this football to the left the Outfield shot is incomplete brings up third down well Chris the offense takes a shot down field and this Defender does a great job making a play on the ball not only that he tips that ball up into the air good chance for the defense to up with an interception there offense will try to convert a third and long in the 27 we'll see if the defense brings the blitz it intercepted picked off by the defense going the other way can they stop him touchdown ASU with a we him I can see why he's got tremendous ball can make that play and it way back for a tou moment now they kick off and the defense get a quick stop I said it's really cuz I dropped that scene earlier in the drive bring it out it's Johnson he's down the been off leaving in the end Z for a touch I already KN I knew AC was going to give you some some good [ __ ] I said I knew NC was going to give you some good [ __ ] this here comes the Arizona off back out on the field you'd be a surprise if they took a risk here with the final seconds of the first half backed up near their own End Zone the QB throws his third of the day he'll be taken down but after a good return thing well this guy obviously did what he needed to do to get himself ready for this game it's a favorable match up got a lot of confidence he's already come up with two interceptions in this game alone locked in on what he needs thinking about conceeding time getting out of here on first down it's play action right with a quick throw and it's incomplete just 10 seconds remaining now some players just have a real KN for timing their jump and that Defender was able to get a big p on the ball and bat it away tries it again here on second and 10 tackle is made it's a short gain well short of the marker and know the offense will call a timeout something the coach didn't like about this crucial play coming up so with only a few seconds left in the half the field goal unit comes out of the field and the field goal is good those will finish off the first half and take us to halftime m is going to wrap up the first half here let's kick it now to Kevin Conor with our halftime update the sundevils will kick this away to begin the second half he's going to return it from near the goal line return his steps Out of Bounds at the 17 okay so the Arizona offense heads back out of the field now the first job here protect the football turnovers on backto back possessions the ball is loose defense recovers trying to run this back now how about this defense flying in there trying to get their hat on the ball they do and they're able to pounce on it for a big turnover and here comes the offense back fi from the shotgun now here's a hand off inside say that's how you limit what an offense wants to do this time the defense just won the battle up front at the line of scrimmage not giving up any big plays everybody's Gap sound it's really solid defense on that they're backed up here trying to make something happen third and [Applause] long they're going to run it here finding space at the 20 they bring him down but that's a solid gain on the play how impressive these guys been up front today big third down know what you need to do get the first down continue to hold on to that lead Contin to work clock and get that much closer to securing a victory offense switches it up here looking to throw the ball now receiver makes the grab defense surrounds him just a short gain on that compleation quarterback looks down field to make this throw he wants to be able to get the ball to be able to pick up enough yards for a first down but instead gets the ball at least underneath to the drag route and gets some positive yards coming to the line on second down this is important they want to avoid a third and long makes a quick catch touchdown Arizona State and this one is getting ugly they try to add the lead now with the p and the p is good as they continue to pull away even more now they get set to kick it away are we going to move on to our next fielded In The End Zone it's Hunter tackled at the 12 Coach wishes he left that one in the end zone here comes the Arizona offense back out on the field the last possession ended in a fumble and M set up a touchdown so they got to bounce back from that right away opening play of the drive put throw to the left that's a ni game will Mo the football up to the 27 big guys up front line up it's first down okay okay can't Ming out of the pocket trying to create throws a rocket toward the right side and the pass is dropped would have been a big game but he couldn't hold on I love how this quarterback CHR is able to keep this Play Alive by scrambling unable to connecte Second down and 10 dropping back it's the makes a quick grab breaks one tackle gets brought down but picks up some decent yardage here comes the uptempo offense on Third and short they'll try to throw for it here but they don't make the connection that one is incomplete okay looked like the quarterback had everything that he needed there had great protection receiver ran a nice route just not able to convert there on that third down let's see what the decision is on fourth down coming up the offense stays on the field the coach going to go for on fourth and two in his own territory receivers now getting some new assignments before the snap dude why can't I change my running back oh my gosh this game is so [ __ ] broke trying forth down comp pass rush closing in as a fourth down stop will take over territory I think they're going to end up regretting going for this one Chris I wouldn't have gone for what's wrong with putting it away i h being aggressive but you got to be smart on when to go for it and win the punt the eye candy here from the offense and pre snap motion out of the shotgun he hands it off fighting him off finding enough space for a solid game before this St coaches told us in the pregame production meetings they love this back mixture of speed and power we know about the speed they also show the ability to break t on that run it's caught he's tackled quickly but the yardage is good enough for the first down quarterback sees that this defense is dropping way back in zone coverage so he does the right thing gets it underneath to that drag route and picks up a first down the drive stays alive with that completion for a first down motion by the back defense better adjust here comes a first down pass attempt looking for the tight end and caught a big hit by the linebacker physical tackle their big versus big just a good job of spreading the weth making sure everybody's getting their touches when you do that the defense can't lock in on one guy or two guys make them have to be aware of everybody and allows you to continue to spread the ball around and spread the field making it tougher for this defense finally marked out after a big game but hold on there's a penalty marker on the field let's check this out and the head coach will decide to accept the penalty and take the yardage what's the playful here on second down for this offense here's the snap quarterback looking to throw trying to create outside the pocket now nobody open down field he just throws it away man the defense took everything away from him what are you expect him to do he can't force theall ball into traffic and potentially throw the interception does a good job of getting out of the pocket away from the presser just throw the ball away see what happens on this next down not going to be easy here backed up a long way to go for a first down running back grabs it on the screen finally able to stop him but the defense is to a bit on that play it's a solid game for a first down well this quarterback is unfl here they are working with the lead in the second half get to a third down you got to throw the football this is where you trust the quarterback to make a good decision an accurate throw he does it you convert and you keep working that clock they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one so this defense finally makes a play that's one of the few negative plays with his offense today yeah you said it Chris they don't have the easiest road to climb back in this one but little plays like that can be points of positivity of what coaches will likely focus on as they move forward here's a handoff testing the middle touchdown sundevils to stretch the lead the route is on I think we're starting to kind of see a theme here Chris today that's his second touchdown the offensive line doing their job and he's doing an outstanding job of just reading the defense finding the hole and being able to pick up big yards in touchdown the kickoff team on the field now as they get set to send this one away bringing it out it's Hunter he'll be tackled at the 18 that's a good coverage there it's line getting set up it's a first down play motion from the offense hand off here from the shotgun they'll tackle him at the 27 second down play coming up for this offense back to pass it's PA he's running out of time here the pass is incomplete on the final play of the third quarter final quarter coming up throw the ball line left that [ __ ] at the at the hotel today oh well first of the quarter is a crucial one try tot this third down just glad it was happening before the playoffs looking to pick up the first down through the air he pulls in the catch rips off a big game finally tackled at the 46 Arizona getting set with a first and 10 coming up quarterback checks the defensive look makes some adjustments first down looking to throw the ball and they heave it deep down field another interception that's number four today are you kidding me boy would this quarterback love to have this one back they're trying to work themselves back into this game here in the second half and the defense comes up with a big turnover that could bre the and the Arizona State offense comes back on the field take the field with serious momentum they have been tough to stop so far can they keep it going looks like he didn't get the snap off in time that'll cost him five yards theay of game penalty will cost the offense five first down play call how aggressive will it be they're climb a pop pass on the Jet Sweep he's pass the 25 tackle made after a solid game they spot the ball a 2 and one the defense has got to do a much better job here adjusting to the pre snap motion they just kind of stayed in place and it gave the receiver plenty of room there to make a nice play a running play gives the offense a fresh set of downs what you C now on First and 10 here looking to throw the ball receiver looks it in it's complete and the defense swarms not much of a gain on that completion how about the arm strength from this quarterback he really didn't option than to put it right in there and give it everything that he had great timing and a good job of squeezing that in between the Defenders they stop him after a short gain it's not a first down Sun Devils hustle to the line to crank up the tempo goror keep it on the ground to work the clock here he get him down at the 41 but that's good enough for a first down sometimes they almost get mesmerized watching these Runners who have great vision you know the eyes that carry their feet to the open space making people Miss I just love watching those guys do work it's a shotgun run call he shreds The Tackle it's a two yd gain second and eight coming up Bo I thought he might Shake free there he's able to break one tackle but give credit to the secondary good job of coming up in run support out the play fake he'll look to throw it he'll take a deep shot here tried to go very deep there good effort now it's third down it's pretty simple as a defensive coordinator when the quarterback drops back to throw if we get pressure on him we got a chance to slow him down and win the football game if we don't could be a long afternoon good job here by dialing up the pressure the their 43 dropping back throw for the first down and he's going to launch it deep again oh and he's got a big gain inside the 25 potentially a touchdown saving tackle but not a long comption the Sun Devils looking a cash in this Red Zone trip looking to throw it on first down oh it's incomplete that's a good job of the defender to break that up just a great play on the ball by the defensive back getting the hand on and tipping it up into the air anytime you see a tip go up often that defense to the [Music] ground be third one war oh man drops back needing a third down completion here quarterback escapes the pocket tries to avoid the rush and just gets rid of it that's the two-minute warning as this offense tries to work the clock getting closer now to an impressive Victory and here comes the field goal unit onto the field the kick is good he knocked it right down the middle and that will extend their lead even further after adding to this big lead they'll set to kick it away well they almost put a touchdown on the board but instead they come away with three points and it's fielded for to trying to make something happen they stop him at the 23 that's solid coverage okay so the Arizona offense head back out of the field now this has been a demolition a monumental just put the controller down and walk away that deep shot is caught for a big game they bring him down but that is a huge play for this passing game big game looking to throw it's PA look at this he'll go deep again downfield shot balls incomplete couldn't quite connect there Bo this defense it's really struggled today Chris when it comes to throwing the football they have dug themselves a huge hole they're not going to have any chance of coming back and I think one thing about this is you wonder where you go from here you're hoping to make a play or two to give yourself a belief that things can get better but it's just been a disastrous day for the offense defense finally brings him down but a nice chunk play now they got to hustle to the line and get set here comes a throw from in the red zone defense is coming after him quarterback gets down to avoid the tackle so down here in the Red Zone every yard tough to find here is a crucial play coming up here's the snap offense looking to throw the ball grab near the sticks it's Miranda runter scoots out of outs after gaining decent yards this is called settling down in his own defense just kind of finding that soft spot so not only does this tight end show he's got great athletic ability and great size here he shows me he understands coverage and he scores touchdown wild C you know the most impressive thing to me Chris I'm not going to win this football game I love that they're still fighting I think that tells you a lot about this team the character the culture the way they're coach it's not their day but I'm just impressed that they're still battling lineup here go for the onside kick and they make the recovery in the onside kick the offense keeps it for another possession pretty easy call for the head coach he will accept that penalty of [Applause] course first down play call coming up how aggressive will it be tight end goes in motion off the play fake on first down pressure is coming looking to make a play deep down field you get a tight end like this and you know who's used to dishing out the punishment but here he's the one that has to absorb the contact and as a result he's unable to hold on to the football the offense with some pre- snap eye candy they look to throw it here on second down caught over the middle it's scabo well these guys just won't let up another big positive game here in the passing game from this offense this is one of those games you to the film study you get through things on Saturday night maybe you go over there on Sunday to the facility and on Monday as a team you break down the film they'll be pretty happy when they get the chance to look at this one grab down the middle SC hey Rich got to know this sh maybe if we get it third time actually should be a decent game first and 10 looking throw but they can't make the connections incomplete man Chris I don't know if that was a bad read by the quarterback or a bad route by the receiver they got to get this cleaned up before the next time they go through the air receiver in motion now off and incomplete I'm a bigan of the RPO but it is a dangerous try to make up make the right decision on this play seemed like he was a little hesitant unsure and it cost him here with an incompletion yeah going to say they gave me the same [ __ ] from the shotgun hand off inside takes a big shot there from the defense but moves the sticks first down the Sun Devils come to the line set of down looking to throw it from the Red Zone caught near the goal line touchdown ASU last minutes to team that doesn't get caught up in the the scoreboard they're just out executing and doing what needs to be done that's what we're seeing from this offense yeah they continue to put points on the board and they're pulling away I just love to see the execution and how they're going about their business and that one will bounce out of the back of the end zone so a Touchback they start the 25 and the first play of the drive now from the 25 on First and 10 they'll look to throw it time is running out they'll take a deep shot catch made way down field that's going to help the stash a little bit but won't make a difference in the outcome looks like the defense has [Applause] it what an amazing one these guys have had and now they can call themselves champions of the big to become a piece of the history of that great conference and now with the playoff spot locked up we get to see they
