EA SPORTS College Football 25 2024 Week 3 #15 Arizona @ #17 Kansas State

[Music] you might not know the word emo but they do in Manhattan Kansas it means every man a wild cat and inside Bill Snider Family Stadium virtually every man woman and child is a wild cat and loves Kansas State what a matchup we have in store it's still early in the season but this is a major test for a couple of squads who've gotten out of the gate undefeated as we'll see the number 15 team in the country the Arizona Wildcats taking on the 17th ranked team in the land the Kansas state wild cats glad to have you with us for EA Sports college football I'm reys Davis David Pollock and Jesse Palmer with me in the booth guys we are ready to Tee It Up [Applause] Arizona will kick off to get things underway here he comes from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 so the Kansas State Wildcats offense takes the field to start this game off and all eyes will be on this man because he is electrifying every time he touches the ball I mean so much fun to watch can hit home runs can make big plays everything in this offense starts with that grown man what I really like about him too is he's versatile right he can carry The Rock he can catch the football he's good at blocking this guy stays on and he will be sacked at the 6yd line and that's a great job by the defense not letting that bird out of the cage when you can run like this guy can you got to keep the edge did a great job he went backwards retreated gave up some ground that didn't give up the outside got the sack on the play I'm not sure you have much in the script to convert a third and this long on the opening drive looking to throw and he needs a bunch and he was drilled just as he released the pass it's incomplete K State send the punt team onto the field ready to boot it away doesn't say much for your drive when you're looking forward to the punt he only needs a sliver of daylight and good work by the coverage team to knock down the Return Man so Arizona's offense will get the ball for the first time a first down for the [Applause] offense receiver on the Move gets the touch pass pass able to pick his way forward for a decent game before the defense gets him down kept it on the ground on first down let's see what they do on second running back searching for a hole he is tackled but it'll be a fresh set of downs and they'll line up from the 31 on first down Ed the play fake now to throw grabbed behind the line it's Miranda and good coverage by the defense just a short game right on target with that last pass now it's second and medium touch pass on the Jet Sweep you're not getting him on the ground still on his feet he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down leaves with the back you'll take four yards on first down every time second and [Music] six wants to throw it's faid makes the catch and the completion gives him a fresh set of downs and keeps this drive moving Arizona lines up with a first and goal trying to get outside on the Jet Sweep into the end zone he goes touchdown Arizona Arizon number five in the Ex [Music] Zone lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point is good and it's seven nothing so that drive covered just 44 yds and they finish it off with the score from the [Applause] fouras Z on the move from inside is five just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 and here comes the Kansas State offense back onto the field they go to the ground finds that crease and he's got four out to the 29 after the productive first down play it's second and six he's looking to throw he's got an open man plenty of room on that play and they find their way to the 36 Kansas stay quick to the line yeah and the quarterback knew exactly where he wanted to go the football had time spins the ball deep nice job by this offense understanding what the defense is giving them and creating explosive play and he has a solid gain before the defense bottles him up just had a solid pick up on first now let's see what they've got on second down give to the running back that ought to be enough to give Kansas State the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs to the air on first down fires to the tight end and an absolutely Fearless tackle giving up size still got him on the turn running the Red Zone it's Edwards and they make the tackle but he has plenty for the first down the Wildcats come to the line with a fresh set of downs going to the running game they'll finally get him stopped at the one yd line what a run there new center Downs right on the doorstep for this offense little touch pass to the receiver touchdown Kansas state and they'll put that scoreboard operator to work and put six on the board [Applause] ling up to add [Applause] another splits the upright and for a quick update let's go to Kevin Conor's in the studio guys right back to your game after we update the nation on this one they'll run it from the gun crosses the 30 to the 31 A6 yd gain 6yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four looking for a man it's faf tremendous awareness along the sideline and the ability to get the foot down for the big pickup from the gun running back gets to give and a nice solid pick up there before the defense wrestles him to the ground after the productive first down play it's second and six touch pass on the [Applause] run inside the 30 he's R out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down Arizona right back to the line motion from the offense run in the Red Zone it's Conway and I think they'll give him two on that one second and eight coming up going to work in the Red Zone they can't pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone with Jet Sweep pass that's what you expect from a you don't give them any extra yards great tackle there as they get set to snap at time winding down here in the quarter looking for room it's Conley and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first [Applause] down the end absolutely nothing settled deadlocked after one period of play as we have a look at the stats we've got a good one going here and looking forward to keeping those vibes going here in the second quarter and now on fourth down they'll try a field goal and it's right down the Boulevard and with that they've taken the lead 10 Kansas State [Music] so they're lining up to kick it off after that last Drive put a three spot on the board and now the defense will try to shut him down coming out with it it's Lockett he gets a block he is Electric in the return game and and that one has the offense set up nicely they'll get this drive started from their own 45 yd line they think there's room to run to the right here love seeing these early season top 25 matchups you can get a really good feel of how good these teams are D and the intensity is going to be big too David because the players you know on these teams they've been thinking about this game for a long time they knew they'd have a national stage and they got a chance to prove just how good they are wow man make that state make that early State we always look at the end of the season and and what does the committee say oh they beat top 25 so and so here's your chance to put that on your resume that'll pay off big time in late in the season solid pick up for four on first down it's second and six looking for a crease it's gon they finally make the stop with the big run is readyy to move those sticks for the first down and the wild cats are on the move might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one lost one on that last one it's second and 11 second just when they looking run now up top it's caught downfield defense makes a stop but the chains move and it's first and goal from the eighth wide receiver now comes in motion try to get the edge with a quick touch pass and into the end zone he goes touchdown Wildcats [Applause] [Music] on to attempt the try and with the extra point they're up 14- 10 that drive covered 55 yds for the score and they finish things off with an 8yd toss for the score from inside the 10 yd line he'll bring it back not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 Arizona sending the offense onto the field out of the gun they'll run it inside defense there to stop him after a gain of one to the 22 didn't get much on first down it's second and nine they go right back to it maybe picked up a couple he's down at the 24 if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum to the air it's faf coming after him the freshman been able to get home with the sack and that is priority number one for defenses get to the quarterback affect him hit get hits on them they do it right here get their first sack of the game last game by the way last time out they had five let's see what this defense can continue to [Applause] do the wild cats will have to send out the punt team three and out and not much choice but to get rid of the ball slips through the line and the punt team able to sling him to the ground K state has the ball back and the power cat offense returns to the field on that last Drive defense had no idea what was happening run or pass that wound up in the end zone Jesse yeah you saw the experience in this offense that last drive too on that touchdown everybody on the same page these guys have reped these plays over and over in practice and in games and it's working yeah so I got to find a way to disrup it I got to find a way to maybe be more aggressive maybe Blitz mess up this Rhythm they got going quarterback Quick Pass to the receiver and boy is he close to that first down maybe just a couple of inches short now on fourth down they'll settle for a field goal try never a doubt for this bigf footed guy 49 yd field goal is good that makes the score Kansas C 1 so after the last Drive ended with a field goal the kickoff team out there to send it away on the run from inside his own five and the coverage team able to wrestle him down Ariz has it back the offense coming out to Bear down power football with the Run not a lot of room there give him a couple to the 16 picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down they'll keep it on the ground that may not look like a huge run but they'll take it as it gets him up to the 24 now on third down for this offense they'll try to pick it up on the ground that just never had a chance as they control the middle of the field and stopped him in the back field on third down fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way he's got great speed little pressure on the coverage team there and they'll stop him at the 47 yd line good field position to start this drive at their own 47 wasting no time throwing on this drive complete to the left he gets it to the 31 yd line a big play for this offense Kansas State pushing the pace they're going back to the ground not a whole lot of room there three yards maybe second and seven it's the two-minute warning and we'll see if the offense can tackle little something extra on their lead before the break throws for the tight end it's complete and the defense makes the immediate tackle but he has enough for the first down they'll throw it from the Red Zone tight end finds a soft spot and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down and a good solid pick pick up before the defense Cuts him down offense calls a timeout here critically important to make sure they have the right play called and everyone on the same page here it'll be a draw so close to that end zone he could almost taste it but it'll be first and goal for this offense defense is backed up shadow of the goal post trying to defend their own End Zone he makes a grab and he will score touchdown Kansas State and it's now the second time this wide receiver has scored another outstanding job with the route great job securing the [Music] catch they'll try to add another to their lead exra point and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further so they got the touchdown now going to put it in the hands of their defense to finish off this half he'll start the return inside his five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Arizona sending the offense onto the field looking downfield it's faf and they got him he'll get him down for the sack and a great job by the defense dropping in zone coverage all eyes on the quarterback taking away the options and then finally the pass rush gets home gets him on the [Music] ground one more snap coming before juice boxes and orange slices first half in the books time now to join Kevin Connors at our halftime update then it should come as no surprise that we have ourselves a fun matchup in Manhattan and there is no better place to start this halftime than by reviewing how this wide out has been a Onan Wrecking Crew the kids's been everywh and I love how he's willing to go across the middle but that he also has the Jets to burn these DBS on the Deep ball if this defense wants to actually come back in this one they better hide his cleats and with that let's send it back to the guys inside Bill Snider Family Stadium Arizona will kick off to get the second half underway from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 going up top on first down catch in the middle it's Miranda they make the stop but this passing game does some damage and they move the sticks with the first down sometimes you have to put it in a tight window and sometimes the window is garant you and and it was there yeah that was one of them big old huge windows and and I tell you what when you throw the middle of the floor a lot of times quarterbacks are a little bit hesitant when you're that open it's easy to pull the trigger easy to make the decision make the read get the ball to your receiver and the Freshman does a great job using his technique and getting the man on the ground and this offense is desperate to keep this drive alive trailing by multiple possessions and it's getting late caught near the sticks it's McMillan there to make the tackle but the big throw is good enough to give them a first down the Wildcats look to keep this drive humming here's the hand off they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one lost one on that last one it's second and 11 give to the back nice move to pick up yardage and he's able to find a little bit of Running Room before they get him [Applause] down they'll Run play action he fires to the left side and he's got it inside the 10 touchdown there Arizona a great catch and run for six well I'm not sure who was closer to the receiver there the defensive backs or us here in the boo that was great execution on offense receiver wins the route oneon-one shows off his speed gets himself wide open there was no question where the quarterback was going with that ball nice job lining up for the Pat and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer and let's check in with Kevin Conor in the studio Kevin fellas I think at least a portion of your audience will have an interest in the one that just finished up Buffalo was able to cap off a close one inside UB stadium with a narrow Victory and that's the mark of a solid program pile up wins build on games like these and remain focused on the big picture he's going to let it go a lot to go through in the film session this week for both teams but boy it sure is going to be easier for the side that came away with the win Kevin thanks a lot for that one sounds as if they had a good one there and the DB right with him to knock it away now on Third and 10 if they can move the chains here maybe they can get this drive started the throw got a man it's gens and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way not able to pop the big return but they've got the ball back and ready to go with a fresh possession Arizona has it back the offense coming out to Bear Down leaves it with the back turns it on in Midfield oh what a big play for this offense as they get it to the 33 yd line Arizona in a hurry well there's the offense trying to take advantage of this running back speed I like the call hand off to the left to the outside put him in space and let him go to work they've avoided the interception all day but they were lucky to get that one back here late it'll be second down using his legs it's Conley makes the tackle at the 23 yd line give him 10 yards and enough for the first down and the wild cats come to the line with a new set of downs they're going to ride this running back they get him on the ground with this running game imposing its will 6yd gain down at the 17 the give on the inside and they try the middle of this Stout defense and they rise to the challenge line is set on third down looking to pass it's ffid safe completion on the screen discards a man he steps out of bounds but it will be enough for a first down new set of downs after that completion quarterback flips it ahead quickly to the receiver touchdown Arizona and they made it to the house where they found that six points waiting on them number five love the individual effort here by the wide receiver after he has the ball able to make people miss you see the speed as he goes in for the touchdown now they'll line up for what they hope is [Applause] automatic and after that extra point we have a tie ball game in the third quarter all tied up and just about set to kick it away number 33 set to kick this one away he thought about bringing that out for a half second but he'll take a knee and they'll bring it to the 25 and here comes the Kansas State offense back onto the field off the play fake on first down to throw and it's incomplete if you're going to take a hit like that you might as well hang on to the ball after the misfire now on second down he's looking to throw and that's going to be incomplete a lot of contact on the play but no Flags it'll be third down they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one got him downfield oh no he loses the ball after the huge gain well the offense is able to avoid disaster right there problem is they fumbled it but thankfully they were able to jump back on and not have a turnover leaves it with the running back and the defense doing a great job committing to the run when you commit to the run like this obviously you can give up some plays in the passing game but you got to stop the run first Johnson wants to throw it finds a tight end they'll stop him at the 41 but he's got 10 yards and they'll move the chains this Kansas State offense is moving quickly down the field they'll try the Run and a pickup of eight opens a world of opportunities on second and two tried to pound it on first down now back to the line out of the gun the inside hand off looking for a crease trying to pound their way forward he picks up a couple to the 31 and now on third down after that last run they'll try to get the first through the air couldn't quite haul it in they almost had their first pick here late in the game a field goal attempt from here would just be 48 yds but they'll try to move the chains on fourth down and short tackle is made after the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of [Applause] downs trying the left side fting off the defender he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three got some work to do after that last play second and 13 they run the reverse he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three of three they've methodically work the ball down the field 11th play of the drive coming up but this one third and long finds a tight end and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end to the ground with the back pick up of one it's down at the 11 operating in the Red Zone here on second down what a day it's been on the ground for these two guys and they just seem to get stronger as the game goes along as we take a look at the numbers we've swapped sides of the field and we are ready for the Finish as the fourth quarter gets underway trying play action and he was hit just as he was releasing the pass and it falls to the ground incomplete really need to pick up this conversion and avoid having to settle for the field goal Johnson looking to throw oh and it's picked off this could be huge in a tie game and they'll drag him down after a good return on the interception if I'm a QB coach I'm grabbing my quarterback right away and be like listen we're going to get another opportunity it's the fourth quarter it's a tie game our defense is going to get a stop for us you got to get your confidence back you got to get back in this ball game we're going to need you again down the road you are not done Arizona sending the offense onto the field how big is this drive scored a touchdown the last time they had it defense gets a stop and now it's up to them in a tie game all right so if you're the offensive coordinator here let's dial it in who are your best matchups and best Playmakers to take advantage of this golden opportunity yeah and I'm interested to see this defense too like the momentum is clearly not in your favor how do you get it back how do you make a big play do you be more aggressive here to try to get the football back to your offense third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it [Applause] off finds his man it's Conley he ended up going backwards on the play and they will not convert that third down Arizona runs out the punt team he'll try to really get into this one he'll return it from around the 50 and The Return Man is Stu and that'll leave it up to the offense on the next Drive okay so here comes the offense returning to the field it's a reverse he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 he's looking to throw and the pass is incomplete Jarred Loose by the hit a touch out of field goal range they need to pick up yards quickly on third down they'll run the screen defense was not fooled by that screen to the back and they'll stop him short of the marker it'll be fourth down so on fourth down here comes the field goal kicker in a huge spot and the try is no good after that failed field goal attempt fellas still tie ball game Arizona has it back the offense coming out to Bear Down wide receiver shows motion quick pass on the jet Motion makes the tackle at the 46 but it's a 15yd gain to get them into plus 10 territory they'll throw it on first down and this will be incomplete a big hit there forces second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again the give to the tail back Bulls his way forward and he delivers the angry stiff arm but is greeted by an angrier defense looking to help the kicker out on third down from here it would be a 59 yd attempt pocket starts to collapse and he was hit just as he released it and it falls to the turf the wild cat will have to send out the punt team he's getting a lot of work fourth time he's punted tonight excellent job on the punt bounces Out of Bounds at the five and they'll have 95 yds to go in front of them it's reverse he's knocked down in the back field he will lose a coverer this offense has a second down play takes the hand off it's giddens they make the stop but not before he takes a chunk out of what they need to move the sticks so third and short from inside the 20 you convert here and this drive takes on a different complexion grabbed in the middle it's Swanson dragged down to the turf but not before getting the first down the wild cats come to the line with a fresh set of downs and that incomplete pass caused by the big hit on first down second down coming they'll line up for a second down play from the shotgun now here's an inside GI may not be the most memorable play of the day but it's important as he gets them out to the 25 yd line bully ball on Third and short he'll have the first down as he gets it to the 28 yd line before he stopped Kansas State really has this drive rolling they'll throw it on first down snagged in the middle it's Swanson and that was some kind of collision between a couple of big bodies there and he stopped from getting the first down he wants to throw here on second down got his man in the middle and they don't drag him down until he gets all all the way to the 46 yd line Kansas State quick to the line Johnson wants to throw it release to the back on target that's about as close as you can get to that marker and it will be second and just a few breaths away from the first down quarterback keeps it and he gets it out past the sticks it'll be first down for Kansas State long drive continues as the offense keeps working the ball down the field catch in the middle it's brown they make the stop right there good pickup and still short of the first down the clock stops as we have reached the final two minutes of the game hand off from the shotgun he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple third and short from the 26 pretty easy field goal range but they'd love to pick up the first to the ground to try to move the chains and he's tripped up but not before picking up the first down K State trying to Cannonball their way to a score from the Red Zone trying to run it's get one step WRA Two Step squeeze this junor knows how to get him on the ground timeout called by the defense it's their first of the half as they'll make some adjustments they'll run it from the gun and the defense makes to stop after a minimal game timeout is called and it's the defense wanting to make sure that everyone's on the same page for this big down the give to the back and they did not let him get to that first down line it'll bring up a call here referee signals timeout it's the defense wanting to make sure that they have everything just right with a big play coming splits the upright right down the middle and now they've taken the lead in the final two minutes and set the stage for a great Finish Well the offense and special teams did their job right here late in the fourth quarter they put themselves now in position to win this game it all comes down to the defense can they deliver they get the stop they win this game after that last field goal Drive they're set to kick it away and it'll be a touch back the ball will come out to the 25 yd line Arizona sending the offense onto the field he'll come out throwing on first down gets it out quickly he's there to make the stop but the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on the throwing catch looking for a man it's faf looking left fires into traffic it's picked off couldn't find a ton of room on that return with that small change they take over at the 43 when you're down late in the game you got to make plays it's really tough not to force the football you could tell quarterback forces the football defense comes up with a huge interception off and set on first down and the quarterback will just drop to a knee sometimes it's just not your day things just didn't work and that seemed to be the case here they they didn't get the W they didn't do enough uh but now you start to think about what could I have done differently what do I need to become more offensively defensively what can I morph into to make those extra plays Jesse that might be the difference in the next game that I play yeah David they just need a little bit more they need a little bit better effort next week they're going to need better preparation this week in practice there's no doubt this team has a lot of talent but we just need a little bit more to ensure
