and many many more have built this big red Legacy as this crowd is ready to cheer on their beloved Corn Huskers what an exciting matchup we have in store for you this afternoon built around the pageantry tradition and everything that makes college football green as we'll see a squad from Conference USA the utap miners taking on a team from the Big 10 the Nebraska Corn husers for EA Sports college football I'm Reese Davis joined here in the booth as always by David H and Jesse Palmer guys let's te this one [Music] [Applause] up The Corn Oscars will put total Le and we'll get started he'll start the return inside his SP didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 so Hiner offense takes the field to start this game off and not only is this guy the energy and the engine of the offense there's a certain Charisma that he has that sort of elevates everyone around him he's got a Moxy about him reys it just seems like when he's in the Huddle he's got 10 other sets of eyeballs looking at him and believing in him to lead this offense down the field towards scoring points this guy is a leader in every sense of the word this crowd trying to make life miserable for this offense back to throw it's McConnell going up top and it's caught inside the 15 he was smelling that end zone but they get him down at the four after the big pass play it's a beautiful pass and catch I love the job the quarterback does manipulating the def with his eyes he Froze that safety and that allowed his receiver more room to work his route this offense trying to quiet the crowd on first and goal and they are not cooperating they'll try to get it in with the Run he works his way ever closer all the way down to the one yd line now second and goal in right in the teeth of this noise tries again to get it in just hammer it with this running back again and he noses his way into the end zone and I like the running back's Vision he sees the hole explodes through it he knows where the goal line is Gets In The End Zone gets [Applause] [Applause] six he'll try to tack onone one more and the extra point is good and it's 7 nothing quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and they capped it off with a one yd [Applause] plunge lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown drive from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 so Nebraska's offense will try to get something going with their first possession here are our impact players for this game and it goes beyond executing an assignment to make an impact in the game yeah obviously we were talking to both coaching staffs this week and we asked them who needs to step up and play while they immediately pointed to these guys right here they are the key for their respective teams yeah and they don't always show up in the Box Score but these are the guys of the leaders these are the guys getting everybody organized and have to play well for their team to succeed got three on first down it's second and seven wide out in motion power football with the Run finally pulled down but not before moving the change for a first down well when you talk Nebraska football it always comes down to their ability running on offense whether it's the option or whether it's conventional they've got a long and illustrious history of great running backs and this guy is on the field for a reason his vision his ability to make people Miss run with toughness he can do it all the give to the back they'll Mark him down at the 40 after ripping off 10 every offense wants to be able to run the ball and be physical especially on first down and you want to create second and short third and short or just get first downs like that run right there and the Huskers have it with a first and 10 leaves it with the back they can rely on this guy to pick up solid yardage when they need it and he's out to the 43 that's a really nice play it's impressive run it's first down and the defense thinks you might be running the football you still can line up you can get some movement at the point of attack and find a little crease for your running back after the productive first down play it's second and six the give to the left side still on his feet at the 45 and this defense is a half a beat behind they just can't quite keep up they've got it down to the 21 I think it's really important for this offense they get this guy going early in the game and they're doing a nice job of that right now remember he's the kind of running back who gets better as the game goes on that's a really really good omen for this offense considering his success now [Applause] early an explosive play takes him right outside the Red Zone and they've got it first and 10 they'll switch it up here and look to throw and the defense makes a play and they get the quarterback down at the 26 the defense just simply not fooled by the play action often times an offense you're hoping the Run fake is going to slow down those pass rushers but man oh man they had their ears pinned [Applause] back they'll try to keep that sack from Wrecking this drive here on second and 15 the give on the inside he's stopped after a Oney pick up up at the 25 and offenses want to continue to feature the Run they want balance even if it's not super successful you can take it little bit at a time just to keep that defense honest seventh play of the drive coming up but a long way to go on third down looking to throw and he needs a chunk play can't make the connection on third down thanks to that tough hard-nosed pass defense and now it's fourth down I tell you what I don't know if the offense was expecting man coverage that time third and long in field goal range you're expecting it to be Zone instead they lock them up manto man everybody on an island everybody won they get the incompletion Now setting up for it field goal is good [Music] [Music] after putting up the field goal they're set to kick it away he'll bring it back from inside his SP and the returner will be brought down utap has the ball the offense ready to go back to work boy David they would love to stack another touchdown on top of that last drive and this offense did such a good job on the last Drive everything in Rhythm move the ball down the field didn't make those mistakes Jesse and they need to do it again on this one yeah you're right they had the defense on their heels you wonder what sort of communication was going on that sideline what sort of changes were they able to make cuz they got to stop the bleeding right now nyd pick up on first down and now they can take a shot on second and short they'll leave it with him on the move at the 30 and excellent Vision to find Running Room there and make a really good pick up before the defense put a stop to it well if at first you don't succeed try try again right it's been really hard for this offense in this game to run the football but they finally break off a big run there that could be the play they need to really generate momentum and get this run game done they'll give it to the back you want to make sure to maximize those types of runs gets it out to the 41 well it's plays like that that will help this offense stay in Rhythm all game long if you can have that kind of success on first down running the football it just opens up your entire Playbook moving forward they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three on the ground it's Jackson they'll get it to the 48 no need to measure it's a first down well the offense is in a really nice Rhythm right now now it seems like no matter what they're dialing up they're getting positive yards and it just feels so good as a play caller when you know on first down you can get yards like that turning around and handing around yeah and on the other side you're scratching your head going what the heck can I do here you got to find something the defense has got to find a way to create some momentum whatever they're doing right now it's not working so you got to keep going through that play sheet and maybe find something a little bit different and give this offense something to think about well the most insightful analysis I can come up with on that one is that didn't work back to the drawing board to see if there's something that works a little better soon I if I can quot the white Reese Davis that was very UNG good not a productive first down play last play was a near disaster now dealing with second and 13 they move the tight end all over he leaves it with his back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple awesome job up front by this defensive line being so good at the point of attack and eating blocks eating some double teams that allows these linebackers to run free unencumbered and get to the football some third down conversions tougher than others this one a long one on third down from the 43 looking to throw and he needs a bunch unloads to the Wi out fires into traffic intercepted he'll go out of bounds but just what they needed to get the ball back and that's the danger about being in a third and long situation you got to push the football down field the defense is expecting it so they've got guys in the back end with their eyes on the QB they're able to make the interception this offense going to have to do a better job generating better plays early in drives moving forward the cornar ready to go back to work on offense guys that last trip a little disappointing having to take the three yeah I think Jesse you see so many offenses talk about getting yards and Tempo and all the stuff they do there's a nice job moving the football but they got to get in the end zone this time yeah and I think to do that they just got to be more physical at the point of attack get some push up front they need to be the best running team in this game to win just inside the 30 at the 29 it's first and 10 he wants to throw got it behind the line it's ner the defense wouldn't let him loose and even though it's a completion they lost yardage they're trying to throw the screen out to the receiver the defense though having none of that they are just too physical they're too fast they force a negative play second down coming up the playaction fake fires to the wide out snagged in the middle H Banks and the defense makes the immediate tackle but he has enough for the first first down and and I love when you understand when I'm supposed to put some RPMs on that football you could tell he's thrown over the middle of the field he knows he's got Defenders there I got to throw this thing in there quick fast in a hurry nice job by the quarterback the give to the running back from the shotgun oh man there's some big hitting going on in the trenches right now this defense they take a lot of pride in stopping the Run let's keep our eye on them throughout the course of the game and see if they can contain this running attack didn't get much on first down it's second and nine off the RPO complete they make the stop right there good pick up it's still short of the first down nice completion here to this wide receiver and you're going to see this receiver line up in different spots all over the field all game long defense has got to keep their eye on where this guy is because they know he's a big part of this defensive success boy they'd love to pick up this conversion and go to work with a first and goal and there were some collisions in there and the D finally stopped him short of the marker and on fourth down they'll try to put three on the board after making his first field goal he'll try to put up another with a shorty from 26 never a doubt right down the middle [Music] neas so after putting three on the board the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away and he takes this from inside the five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 UTF has the ball on the minor offense ready to go to work wasting no time throwing on this drive and it's incomplete if you're going to take a hit like that you might as well hang on to the ball four wide out set two on either side on second and 10 looking downfield it's McConnell On Target to the left and he's running in the open he's at the 10 and he takes it all the way they couldn't stop him touchdown you tap number one quick strike touchdown comes out and jump the offense and man we see this in college football so much explosiveness and Firepower and we get high scoring game after high scoring game and it looks like we're on Pace for one of those right now now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and they kick it through for the extra point and they have an eight-point lead aggressive play calling on that drive just two plays they get the long touchdown pass to pay it off Nebraska just about set to kick it away here he comes from inside his own five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 and here comes the Nebraska offense back onto the field and to settle for the Chip Shot field goal last time Jesse they had love for this one to pay off bigger yeah it just comes down to execution too did a nice job out in the field stalled a little bit once they got down to the goal line so they just need to be a little bit more crisp here yeah and listen I I think the first part was the most important part you got to put the drive together first to get down there now when we get down there focus on execution and getting six points they created a lot of breathing room with that first play of the drive now first down from the 39 they're getting this guy lathered up really nice stop there from this senior leader know I think a big part of this isn't necessarily scoring a touchdown on that plate but you're just trying to get your offensive line in the rhythm of the game let those big is get lathered up picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down it'll be a draw they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and sometimes for the defense it just takes one play right to create some momentum obviously this guy's been eating him up he's got over a 100 yards rushing on the day but finally David they get something positive here in the Run game defensively but you kind of know that coming in he's going to get his it's a great back and he's had a great day need to put more plays together like that right there your hands it's B they make the stop but the sweet ping catches plenty to give him a first down hard work pays off Guys these offenses work so hard week in week out working on those critical down and distances third downs and having that conversion this early in the game that's got to feel good for this offense the Huskers are marching down the field from the gun running back gets to get man that D tackle is a freaked athlete did you see him come out of his stance and beat the offensive lineman getting to the running back catlike quickness after picking up a couple at second and eight from the gun they'll give it on the inside a solid pick up there before the defense is able to make the stop well this offense came into the game knowing they wanted to be physical they wanted to establish the line of scrimmage and they're running downhill right at this defense and they're turning out positive yardage early will they keep it on the ground again here on third down they'll try to run for it and they drag him down but not before he picks up the first down and that is just an attitude run running it right up the middle right into the teeth of that defense the cor Oscar will snap it on First and 10 looking to move it through the air quickly complete and he goes down after making the grab picks up a few but still short of the first down you know outbreaking routes can make some play callers nervous but not this guy when you have a quarterback that throws it on time and puts it out in front of his receiver like that as a coordinator and play caller you can call that route all day after that last completion it's second down motion from the offense to the air it's Rola he makes the connection and he is right out of bounds as they go backwards there and just avoided the contact third down coming third and long coming from the 27 yd line you can make a field goal from here just don't take a negative play from the gun wants to pass he can't make the catch he was open on the crossing route and instead they're facing a fourth down and the offense got themselves in a tough situation third and long so hard to execute especially when the field starts the shrink but but the good news is they got a field goal in their back pocket so here comes the field goal unit they've been doing work today they've already made a couple and he'll need to curl this one in from 44 yds out on the right hatch and the kicker delivers the three ball to finish off the drive [Music] [Music] so after the last Drive ended with a field goal the kickoff team out there to send it away on the run from inside his own five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 UT has the ball the offense ready to go back to work from the shotgun the inside K he'll knock him down after a pick up of one to the 18 I'll tell you this is a running back who's very very dangerous and the defense did a good job getting him down there but they got to do a great job gang tackling because this is a guy that can break tackles and turn those types of plays into home runs didn't get much on first down it's second and nine quarterback on the keep nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry and they run the option you can just tell man that just the timing of that wasn't set up well the quarterback looked a little bit clunky and that play went absolutely nowhere the Roar of the crowd trying to fuel this defense to keep them pinned in their own end on Third and long a checkdown would be the last resort finds a man on the left and he's down at the 41 that's first down and [Applause] Tack how about these two running games so far dominance on the ground as we look at the first quarter [Music] stats they are lined up and ready to go and get things started here in the second the offense lines up at the 41 with a first and 10 working the middle it's complete nice quick throw there and it's so important for quarterbacks to be able to find a rhythm and to be comfortable and confident you want to just get the ball out quickly make it an accurate and easy throw and you can tell that these two guys they rep that play in practice all the time and it's now showing up here on G that last completion has them set up second and short the give out of the gun and maybe they want to try somewhere else because there is nothing doing in the middle of this defense how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions decb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third down he'll pull it on the read they've got it inside the 40 at the 39 as they pick up the first down9 this quarterback is so dangerous and it looked like the defense had him coralled it looked like they were ready for him to keep the football but that quarterback is just too good he's like a water bug so good short area quickness able to make guys miss then go get the first they'll ride the running back and leave it with him you'll take this every time five yards on the first down play Hey five to six yards a pop I don't know if you guys are really good at math but that usually equals a first down every couple carries so don't forget about the Run game keep them honest pound that rock halfway there on first down it's second and five he'll do it himself crosses the 30 to the 29 before he stopped pick up a five on the play it's a first down this quarterback does an outstanding job in his preparation watching film and understanding when he has to pull the ball on these types of run plays great job keying on the defender and quickly making the right decision to pull it and then go get North and get the first wants to throw it's mcconell quick completion on the out they make the stop but this passing game does some damage and they move the sticks with the first down the magic bean is spinning out of control already over 200 yds in the first half yeah they're being aggressive offensively throwing the football trying to take advantage of this defense on the back end they've got their quarterback right now in a group out of the gun the inside hand off to the running back listen you you got to be able to know what play to call and what hole to go through like the line blocks for a certain hole good job getting through the hole getting what was blocked getting a nice positive game making your situation really good on the next down going to work on second down in the red zone is still some great round to cover to pick up that first down from the gun the running back tries to hit the hole The Tackle is May but he's got it first and goal from the six I love when players understand situations and they understand where the first down marker is and they understand where I got to get to a lot of people you'll see run north south and try to bounce out wide and make big plays sometimes it's not about making big plays sometimes it's about getting that first down to make sure I get an extra set of downs instead of trying to make those big touchdown runs caught near the sideline it's Smith a nice job by the QB there timing out that drag throw it's Zone coverage so he's got to make sure he gets it to his receiver in a window to allow him to catch the ball and then turn it up field picked up some of what they needed on first down now it's second and goal from the five fast motion from the offense on second down they'll take to the air he's got it goes out of bounds just short of the goal line and they'll be set up and in great position here a quarterback dropping back understanding I'm getting Zone coverage all I got to do is be a little bit patient manipulate that defense a little bit my wide receiver runs that drag and I get the first down so loud as rattling your fillings on Third and goal he wants it all T in the end zone touchdown UT touchdown UT and what a nice play call and nice execution play action you're thinking run quarterback pulls it out throws the football right behind those guys and gets the touchdown yeah it was a nice job there by the quarterback too on the ball handling he just froze the defense just long enough to help those wide receivers and targets get some separation in the end zone and at that point it was just an easy pitch match lining up to tack one more onto that lead the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead that is what they mean when they say ball control a 14-play touchdown drive and it was finished off with a two-y touchdown Thoms the kickoff team takes the field to boot this one away the here's the return from inside is 10 really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the cor users ready to go back to work on offense they're going to have to be more aggressive in this drive you can't expect to win this one David kicking field goals no especially when you're trailing you got to have a little more urgency and maybe a little more aggressiveness Jesse and field go are not going to get it done down the stretch yeah you're going to have to take some shots no doubt bottom line when plays present themselves you just simply got to make it got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four wide receiver shows motion looking for space it's Irvin finds that grease and he's got four out to the 29 when you're a defense it is stop the run reverse that is your first responsibility it makes the whole game easy and right now they got it going on the ground the defense is going to have to change something up these little tiny Dink and dunk Dink and dunk you keep doing this they'll go all the way down the field on you so you might want to get a little bit more aggressive scanning the field it's Rola dumps it off in the flats Bulls his way forward and the completion gives him a fresh set of downs and keeps this drive moving well in that down in distance the quarterback's got to get rid of it so quickly right he knows the defense is going to be bearing down on him so a nice job catching the gun snap and then turning and pivoting getting it out of his hands quickly and accurately to pick up the first and the Huskers have it with a first and 10 they'll run it out of the shotgun and how about the efficiency on that one it'll bring up second and four I know it's sexy to throw the football but if you can pound it away and get these kind of gains they will just add up wear the defense down get first downs and UL get some points 6yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four from the shotgun they'll run it running with power and he picks up a first down that is not a flag on the play as just lingerie on the deck after that move this Husker running attack will hit you from all angles you never know who's going to get it next now it's kind of like playing that hat game on the Stadium jump R Chon like where where's the ball underneath Which hat that's going to move around always a lot of deception with this Corn Husker offense throws to the wide out got his man to the left finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down and there was no question in that scenario that's where the quarterback was going he knew he had his receiver in a matchup that he liked running a route where he would find himself opening nice job between those now on First and 10 from the 35 hand off from the gun he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple that linebacker saw the express lane right to the ball carrier and a great job by the defensive line getting some push making them use their resources on him linebacker comes free being to make in the back field for a tackle for a loss after losing yardage is second and 12 back to throw it's r [Applause] quickly complete he's brought down solid pick up but a little bit short of the first down it's definitely the wide receiver's job to create space right so whether you're running a go or you're running a hitch like this right here I got to find a way to push off legally or just create a little bit of space to get some positive yards they probably feel good about their field goal chances from the 29 but they'd love to convert this third and short gets it out quickly and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chain everybody on the same page there on Blitz pickup right offensive line everybody communicating understanding where they have to work to give their QB time to make an accurate throw and pick up the first down to the 23 for this first and 10 he's going to pass got it in the middle it's oy they make the stop after the catch and still some to do to pick up that first down well this offense knew coming into this game they wanted to try to attack the middle of the field in the passing game and they're able to execute the end route there going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone he's going to pass on second down snags it and he will scor touchdown huser field shrinks TI and Grow Big targets big results I've never heard it put that way but you dang right that guy is so big a lot of times you get a DB match up on him he can just post him up a linebacker he can run by him so that's why these tight ends are so dangerous down here in this Red Zone ling up for the p and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer to a drive there of 82 yd and they top it off with a 14 yd pass from the touchdown kickoff team lining up to send this one away on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 UTF has the ball and the minor offense ready to go to work a quick pass to the left and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage and what a nice play by the DB you have to understand that why receiver gets that ball that quick it's tough to get him on the ground nice job getting a hold of him getting him on the ground for no game they'll line up for a second down play caught in the back field it's good and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain what we knew coming into this game this offense was going to try and get this receiver involved and get him involved early so here they are just finding an easy completion it's not a touchdown but they just want to get this guy lathered up and get him into Here Comes This Home crowd as the defense tries to get off the field on third down and they're able to get a third down stop here see if they go for it on Fourth and the miners decide to punt it away this will be their first punt of the afternoon he gets a block looking for Running Room he'll get it to the 43 yd line before he stopped and here comes the Nebraska off back onto the field this is a game of swings and momentum and a great opportunity here after scoring on the last Drive getting a stop and now you have the football back they're playing well right now in all three phases and they're complimenting each other so now David it's up to the offense here it's up to this quarterback to lead this offense down the field to get a score yeah and just stay aggressive to to understand we've had success we got this going the right way now I don't need to change anything go back to your go-to plays has now got you some momentum back in your faor might as well give it to him again coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just [Applause] that eight- yd pickup on first down leaves them with second and short [Applause] they'll try the Run brought to the ground but not before getting it up for the first down Nebraska's had a lot of guys to feed over the years Mike Rosier Roger Craig I am hip but you don't know who's going to get it with this running attack yeah but I do know this ree whoever gets it is going to run the football physical and Nebraska is going to be very happy their fan base will be jacked if they establish the physical ground game cuz that's who they are makes the catch it's Banks and he was able to get away from one tackle but plenty of help was on the way decent pick up on that play great job by the quarterback thrown against Z own coverage you cannot tell a graph where you're throwing the football you cannot eyeball wide receivers so great job by the quarterback using his eyes not staring down his guy and then throwing him open they'll run it from the gun the Huskers get enough for the first down well the offense knew what they needed to get that first down so they dial up the running play they get just enough to keep the drive alive the cor Oscar will have it first and 10 off the bootle wants to throw it into the end zone and and it's caught touchdown Nebraska receivers do this every day all day throw it up I will go get it I will stay in bounds nice job knowing where he was at on the field to get that foot in bounds to get the big TouchDown for this offense they'll try to add another to their lead and with the extra point they have a two-point lead so that scoring Drive took only six plays and they finish it by firing one in from the 13 for the score about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown looks like he's going to try to return it nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 UT has the ball the offense ready to go back to work the last time we saw this offense we had to look quick it was a three and out Jesse he just had no rhythm in that last drive so someone's going to have to step up and make a play David and get this thing going yeah let's find some juice find your guy find those plays that you know you can run Inside Out forward backwards get some first downs get some positive momentum the miners in the hurry up going up top on first down pulls it in it's Smith and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup the offense has it first and 10 from the 42 looking to throw it's McConnell getting some heat and he'll Chuck it into the cheap seats there and save the down nobody getting open there let's see what they've got on second down back to the air one more time feeling some heat that pressure got to him and he just had to Chuck it out of bounds [Applause] better find the ear plugs here comes the noise backing this defense on third down from the gun wants to pass unloads to the wide out oh man another incompletion that's three in a row you know these throws to the perimeter of the field can be so tricky for a quarterback you've got to be pinpoint accurate and have great timing you didn't see it there from the QB and the send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away no return possible on this one it goes out of bounds and they'll mark it right around the 30 yd line the cornar ready to go back to work on offense they'll crank up this drive with the pass all kinds of room to throw that one in there and they'll finally catch up to him but not before a big chunk of yardage is picked up always nice to have that security blanket of the tight end and it's nice to have a tight end that can line up in different areas of the field too it's not always going to be in a three-point stance he can sometimes be in the back field you could Flex him out into the slot they might even try to put this guy out at wide receiver in the split end position fires into trap picked off he'll try to take it back he is finally out of bounds but he was smelling that End Zone on that return well the offense turns it over and talking to their coach St before this game they talked about how important it was to have good ball security and not give the opponent extra possessions that time poor decision by the quarterback and the defense made them pay UTF has the ball and the minor offense ready to go to work after a punt on their last possession they are set up in plus territory this time and honestly it wouldn't have mattered if they scored a touchdown their last possession you've got to be able to turn the page and see this as a brand new opportunity to go get points yeah and your defense has set you up for the position to get points right away now let's get this offense back rolling again create some momentum just get a few first downs and I'm in scoring position this offense has a second down play back to pass it's McConnell trying to get to him it's CAU and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play and a really good job by the quarterback being very decisive he saw his match up he went for it he attacked it got the positive game I would say he's going to find that guy a few more times today from the 14 yd line it's first and 10 he's looking to throw it he's got it and still on his feet good throwing catch takes it down to the five as the offense tries to cash in we've got a timeout here l in the first half and they'll try to get more points on the board before the break operating in the Red Zone here on second down he's looking to throw fires into the End Zone it falls incomplete he was trying to find his hand for six oh what a missed opportunity that interception yes I I know he gets the pass break up but he had a chance to finish things off and he really didn't get it dug but there's a reason he plays defense you know they put the guys on off not a lot of ground to cover and not much to defend a big third down in the Red Zone looking for the score grab near the sticks it's white and he's on his way he'll go all the way touchdown Miners and I just love the execution by this offense late in the half man you want to take the lead you want to get that momentum on your side and they do it they finish it with the passing game and I tell you what heat that passing game up you can keep this lead keep the momentum and keep putting up [Applause] numbers lining up to tack one more onto that lead and with the extra point they're on top by five a very efficient five play score drive and the score comes on a 5yd touchdown pass kickoff team has the ball teed up in there about ready to go he'll start the return inside his five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 and here comes the Nebraska offense back onto the field and the physical play there forces the incompletion on first down now down after the quarterback and receiver failed to hook up they'll try it again on second down looking for a man it's rayola they're trying to get to it pressure's there and he lets it go that pass is incomplete and they're probably fortunate that it wasn't knock free for a fumble doesn't take this defense a lot of time to get to the quarterback man they've got speed all over the place they hit him so quickly and because of that the ball Falls incomplete now on Third and 10 if they can move the chains here maybe they can get this drive started from the gun they'll try to impose their will BRS a tackle and he's got room he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down and they may have caught the defense snapping there a little bit David maybe expecting pass on that third down but because of the backs effort now fresh set of downs and it's so nice to have a guy that you can give the football on these third down situations and feel confident you're going to continue to move the sticks they'll throw it on first down part in the back field it's Banks and they do a really good job not as easy as it looks to get those blocks and he picks up the first down a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half they'll throw it on first down fires to the wide out got him downfield and he found all kinds of room and got it down to the 28 quick timeout from the offense to save precious seconds love to see the fearlessness of a quarterback to work the middle of the field and he's got so much confidence in his own arm talent to be able to get that football there before the defense can break it up we've got a time out in the waning seconds of the half maybe a chance to get off a couple more plays and here on second down they'll send out the field goal unit to try to get three before the break and he'll Envision the ball fight as he lines it up from the right hash and 38 ydd out right down the boulevard it's good [Music] so they get the late field goal right before the half and not much time after this kickoff for an answer from inside his own 15 trying to follow his blockers couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the [Applause] 25 as expected they're content to run out the clock and go into halftime that's the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin in our halftime update thanks fellas the end of a very interesting first two quarters in Lincoln the passing game for both sides has been outstanding on point unrelenting they've excelled in the short game the intermediate game and especially on the Deep ball all all in all a thrilling display of offensive Firepower and these defenses have a lot to discuss here at halftime and with that back to the Sea of red and our guys at Memorial Stadium the miners will kick it off to start the second half he'll bring it back from inside to spot and the return man has no place to run no place to hide and a place to be tackled corn Oscars ready to go back to work on offense first play from scrimmage and they'll keep it on the ground good surge up front giv four out to the 18 it's the emo of this offense and they really put a lot on the offensive line to go out and really try and establish their dominance and assertiveness and they've done a good job of that early in this game running the football solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six using his legs it's Irving just gets it to the 28 pick up of one so third and short from inside the 20 convert here and this drive takes on a different complexion running back goes in motion looking to throw it's Rola gets it out fast a quick tackle may but he's got plenty for the first down he might have expected to see this DB up in his receiver's kitchen instead nice little Zone and they pick up the first man offenses are getting so good re at seeing the holes in the zone knowing you're in zone knowing where to sit down how to make it easy pitch and catch for the quarterback and that's what it was on Third and short out of the gun the inside K they get him stopped at the 32 that's a gain of four small gain I know but again the defense knows he's going to run the football he's willing to run the football not just drop back and pass make him onor the Run game you got to do a lot of this after the productive first down play it's second and six off play action catch in the middle it's Irving he's really close to that first down marker but they stop him just a bit short I want to get my running backs the ball in space as much as possible and sometimes it doesn't work in the running game but I can throw it to him I can try to create some space out wide dump him the football let him make some catches and see if I can't get some big plays out it thir and short the run and looking for the first down and gain tackling on this dude is a good idea they needed it but he still got the first down you know you start day one of training camp running your base runs you need a few yards you run these plays you need a first down you run these plays you rep them over and over and over again they're not sexy they're not pretty but in the end they're effective and they get you that new set of downs when you need them from the gun the running back looking for room and he Jes the first guy made him Miss and picked up a few before being brought down yeah this coaching staff they're getting this offensive line lathered up and into a rhythm now they're letting them drive off the ball on first down on these running plays and they're getting chunks of yardage the big pick up on first down leaves him with second and [Applause] one on the move it's Irving and the husers get it past the sticks I know this is an offensive line that has a ton of Pride they want to come out each and every game and really impose their will on the D line they got just enough push there on that run play to pick up the first the Huskers will snap it on First and 10 right back to the well didn't get much on first down it's second and nine give to the running back and he has a solid gain before the defense bottles him up here on third down will they go back to the running game looking to pass it's Rola a strike downfield just outside the red zone as they pick up the first down they'll spot it at the 22 well look that wasn't a touchdown but that is a massive play for this offense they needed some momentum they needed to find a rhythm in what better way than converting on third down awesome job by the quarterback getting through his progression off the play fake on first down to throw pass rush coming after the quarterback and they get him at the 32 playaction pass success has a lot to do with selling that fake you could tell defense was not buying it got in the back field got the big play [Applause] this drive facing a little adversity now after that last play it's second and 20 off the play fake coming after him it's complete to the left they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down I love when they sneak the big fell out of the back field you know usually blocking so much nice job with a little play action slide and given the rock already well within field goal range wonder how aggressive they'll be on Third and long from the 22 he's looking to throw caught behind the line it's [Applause] mayor they'll try to get something out of this drive and kick the field goal here on fourth down it's good he hit that one right down the middle and after the field goal guys they are back on top after putting three on the board the kickoff unit ready to go returner is going to try to see what he can get and the coverage team able to wrestle him down UTF has the ball the offense ready to go back to work they'll run it from the gun at the 20 he's got space and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end well that's why this running game can be so Dynamic this guy is special when he has the football in his hands he can make people Miss he can run with power and he also has speed you saw it on that last play and the miners want to move quickly looking for a man it's McConnell he's got an open man After Burner coming touchd down utap they take the lead with the six and receivers they develop confidence and chemistry as the game goes on these two right now are definitely on the same page now a two-point conversion attempt coming up he wants to throw it he finds the end zone for the two and now the lead is seven this offense Prides itself on going after you and they did with that long touchdown pass to finish off a two-play drive they lining up to booted away and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 and here comes the Nebraska offense back onto the field always good to get points on a drive David but Chip Shot field goals can leave you a little empty and I think it's great to get points but the great teams get touchdowns in the red area you got to get out there this time and execute a little better on this drive you're absolutely right David generally the best Red Zone offenses are the ones that run the ball the best so let's see if they can be a little bit more physical on this drive solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six the give to the back they get him on the ground after he gets enough to move the sticks and I don't care if I get it by two by 20 by 30 by 40 I just I just want to get the first down understanding the situation understanding where the sticks are doesn't have to be sexy but I got to make sure I get to that stick get to the first down Mar this offense is starting to believe and as they generate yards and points they're bringing momentum with them takes the hand off it's Irving they open the lane and he hit it a gain of five after the 33 and as an offensive coordinator you don't need the perfect play with this guy as your running back he's going to make the play perfect for you because he makes everybody B spin moves hurdles stiff arms speed whatever it takes to move the sticks and score touchdowns halfway there on first down it's second and five dropping back it's Rola throwing right it's complete and they are pushing the ball down the field a big pick up on that one and the tackle is finally made well how about the offense setting that play up we've seen earlier in the game a couple shorter throws just trying to suck those safeties closer to the line of scrimmage anticipating that they would get an opportunity to take a shot they called the perfect play at the perfect time right there off the play fake on first down wants to throw working that left side now he knew exactly where he wanted to go with that one and they've got enough for the first down I don't know if the defense came into this one expecting the fullback to be a weapon catching the Ball but that play didn't look like they were ready for him he catches it turns it up field for the first the cornar getting set on First and 10 he wants to throw he's got it on the Run touchdown cor hkar quite a catch and run for six one of the reasons this offense is so exciting to watch they've got guys that are dangerous after the catch if this back gets through his progression David he hits you in stride these guys will take it to the house man it's your job to do the rest right you hit me in stride where I don't have to stop running I don't have to break down it makes it so easy the connection between quarterback wide receiver you can tell this is a good one and that's why they got six on that [Music] play P unit on the field and the extra point was made without incident and we're tied up here in the third so that scoring Drive took only six plays and the score comes on a 12yd touchdown pass and we're all square as he's set to kick it away looking for those open spaces and opportunity and the returner runs out of real estate as he goes down utap has the ball in the offense ready to go to work he wants to start this drive with a pass and it just squirted through his hands he wanted to take off and got too anxious hopefully that's not going to affect the quarterback's confidence going back to this guy later that was a catch he should have made he dropped it let's see what the QB does moving forward this has been a tight one third quarter all tied up it's now second and 10 looking to throw it's vono this one complete brought down at the 28 but it's a 10yd gain and with that pass right there dude he goes over 350 on the day nice performance this QB's been dialed in offense has it at the 28 on first down out of the gun they'll run it inside he make the stop after a gain of three to the 31 it's just simp simple first down run showing your physicality setting your offense up in a good spot after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven off the bootleg to buy a little space he losts it high and deep down the left side and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge game if he could have held on and that's how pressure on a quarterback can affect the passing game they were able to get after him on that play and as a result the QV made a bad decision forcing that football into double coverage Deb Rising as the crowd Gets behind this defense on third Downs it in he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense awesome body control and great job too knowing where he is on the field to make sure he got his feet down in Bounds at this point this guy's been open all over the field and if I'm the QB man I keep throwing him the ball the miners are rolling down the field comes out throwing on first down looking to the big tight end he's got it just carving up this defense and getting it down to the 24 and this defense is going to have their hands full because they're going to need to be comfortable with guys one-on-one on islands in the perimeter of the field and they're just going to have to make better plays than what we saw right there they knew this offense was going to try to be aggressive got to need better effort in the back end for this defense moving forward these two quarterbacks have produced as we check out their numbers after three back at it to open the quarter with this first down play Le it with the back fakes his man oh my goodness he's still moving defense makes a stop but the chains move and it's first and goal from the eight first down physicality wins football games being able to run the football and create balance and and right here just chews up another first down gives you another chance to maybe continue to run the football and I feel like this guy too is just an explosive play waiting to happen his vision his quickness and he's got a burst you give this guy just a crease he's going to hit it right now he's doing some damage on this defense that linebacker was a heat seeking missile and the heat that he sought was the ball carry yeah great job great F linebackers are making all the calls in the defense and understanding when I need to come through that Gap and come through with bad intentions those guys are usually 245 lbs of he seeking missile he steps and powers and works his way they finally get him down the two and with the stuff there Jesse on second down this little third to midrange you got two downs what do you thinking here maybe getting your quarterback out on the perimeter and giving him a run pass option see if you can get the defense in a b trying to get it done with the run here on Third and goal they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one well the offense only needs a field goal to take the lead they've got great field position but it's Fourth and short on the plus side of the field and as a head coach you got to start thinking do we go for it do we stay on the field do we get some more yards make the field goal even easier let's find out didn't make him sweat at all it's good and now they regain the lead all field goals are not created equal guys kicks in the fourth quarter to take the lead they just seem to carry so much more weight so give that young man credit for getting out there and knocking that thing through the upright all the pressure with all the eyeballs on him he delivered they'll kick it away after putting up a field goal on that last drive here he comes from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 the corn osar ready to go back to work on offense On The Run it's Irving get some work done there pick up of four to the 22 you know it's so important for offenses to want to keep third Downs manageable the way you do that is by having success like that running the football on first down after the productive first down play it's second and six rides to the back tackle is made after the first down and David how demoralizing does it have to be for a defense when you know they're going to run it everyone in the stadium knows they're going to run it and still you cannot stop it there's nothing more demoralizing as a defensive lineman because it just it ticks you off it gets in your head you you know that guy's going to come off and smack you and you got to do something about it I think the defense may be time to start commit more guys to stopping that run not worrying about the pass as much this offensive line better figure out a plan for this D tackle he is tough to block with one guy you might want to start double teaming him he's going to be a problem moving forward you saw all of his ability on that last play picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down just when they're looking run now up top he looks that one in nicely really nice job there by both guys is the throw and the catch to work that defense and get the first down well this defense has Tred to find ways to disguise their coverage and mix it up to try to confuse the QB it's not working that last completion he's now got over 300 yd passing and the Huskers have this offense rolling he'll come out throwing on first down catch in the middle it's ner he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down and I love when my quarterback sees Zone and knows exactly where to go with the football sees the wide receiver running the drag route knows when to throw it pulls the trigger for the easy completion right on target with that last pass now it's second and medium back to throw it's Rola fires to the right got his man downfield good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch when you're running the outout against Zone coverage as a QB you know you got to get the receiver the ball quickly this quarterback has a cannon for an arm he showed you on that last throw and the offense picks up the first down the Huskers have it with a first and 10 the give to the tail back using that running game to budge and forward he's got four down to the 35 it's just so nice to know you can start off on first down with positive plays positive yards hand the football set up a good second down solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six he's looking to throw caught over the middle it's n ripping off a good chunk inside the 25 and they're set up with a first down the defense has their hands full trying to stop this guy in the slot they're going to have to figure something out to bracket him try and get two bodies around and maybe get some safety help as well right now they do not have the answer for this guy it's now first and 10 from the 24 yd line here's the hand off showing off the arms he's R out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the s for a first down first down you know you always want to establish the running game how about this offense nothing fancy run the football be physical get a big game down to the 12 yd line it's first down looking to move it through the air makes the grab that completion takes them down to the seven yd line and they are ready to strike it's so nice as a quarterback when You' got a guy like that working for you in the slot he has such a good feel to find the Open Spaces in the defense just makes life so much easier for his quarterback going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down they think there's room to run to the right here touchdown husers and with that they move out front here in the fourth and this offense really showing their physicality running the football when it matters in the fourth quarter in crunch time to take the lead in this football [Music] [Music] [Applause] ready to try the point after point and the extra point is good and every Point counts it's now a fourpoint lead in the fourth about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown on the run from inside his own five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 UTF has the ball the offense ready to go back to work David they couldn't pay off that last drive with a touchdown now they move the ball down the field and executed like they wanted to until they stalled out and had to settle for a field goal I think if you want to take the next step two here and score a touchdown you got to start finding more creative ways to get your best players the ball we'll see if they can do that here got three on first down it's second and seven from the gun the running back has it crosses the 30 he got away and they'll get it to the 9 yd line and they'll move the chains I love that play call this offense is going to run the football they're not just going to do it between the tackles but they're going to attack you outside you saw that with that handoff they get to the right they get him in space using his speed good play call from the 39 yd line it's first and 10 from the shotgun the hand off to the back and a really short game before he gets a whole bunch of company from the the defense after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven the give from the gun tackled but he has a first down this offense has to get this guy the ball in as many ways as possible he showed you all of his tools on that last play and the miners have their offense in high gear out of the gun the inside hand off looking for a crease and just wedges it ahead a bit before he's brought down that's a really good job by the defense wrapping him up getting him on the ground take away that run game make him onedimensional put him in passing situations really good job job by the defense after picking up a couple it's second and eight he'll keep it himself One Step W twep squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground yeah it's a nice job by this defense understanding listen that QB is a threat and they're going to run all kinds of options and he's going to run the football they were dialed in and got that stuck to the ground these men stepping up up to help this defense on third down dropping back it's McConnell they're bringing Heat and the pressure gets to him down goes the quarterback great job up front on this pass rush defense in a DME Personnel grouping they've got six DBS on the field they're expecting pass so they're going to have to win with four guys and they're 4-1 they got the job done trailing by a possession they need to keep the ball they'll try to convert on fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down he's got him and they convert not much of a fourth down gamble when it's that much of a sure thing and easy conversion for this offense we have reached the two-minute warning and time is of the essence if this offense is going to make a play the miners come to the line with a fresh set of downs trying to find his man on first down grabbed over the middle it's Smith didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few well they're able to get the completion right now you know the sense of urgency is up right here they're in position to go win this game yeah and defensively take your time getting off piles make them eat clock getting your def defense really really quickly and make sure you don't give up any big plays by not being organized caught on the outside it's white tremendous awareness to get what he could and get out of bounds and now the offense trying to score one late love the play call in a two-minute situation here in the fourth quarter outbreaking route so you can make the catch hopefully get out of bounds and save yourself clock now the crowd responding in the Red Zone trying to help this defense they're threatening to score and they'll throw it got his man quickly and this is the time where I'm a defense I'm slow to get up I'm making sure I stay on that offensive player I'm trying to eat up as much clock and make this offense burn as much clock calmer as I can and this coaching staff right now you know they're looking at the analytics too right how many timeouts do we have left we want to think about dialing up some play calls that get guys catching the football or get the ball out of bounds to stop the clock You' got a good Rhythm right here you're in a good position at the field to go win this thing but you've got to be really smart with your play cards yeah we don't have any plays left you know the clock running down we got to make something happen these kind of plays are just crippling they will absolutely ruin what chance you have to push the ball down the field later on and save time outs and so we got to get that engine going here and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knock the ball to the ground fourth down coming up and if you're the def right now you've given up some yards on this drive but you've got a possession lead you just need one more stop after that last incompletion setting up fourth down do you Blitz do you try to speed up the QB let's find out and watch desperate to convert and he'll throw it touchdown UT and they've got the lead in the final minute really good execution by this offense late in the game under a minute score to take the lead it's what you draw up it's what you dream about but now my defense has to go on the field and get me one more [Applause] stop if he can make this one the lead will be three and it's good and he's got the lead up to three late that is what they mean when they say ball control a 14-play touchdown drive and what a late touchdown in the final minute that is likely the game winner here on the move from inside is five finds just enough space to cross the 25 let's mark it at the 27 yd line and here here comes the Nebraska offense back onto the field got it in the middle it's fedone the immediately call timeout trying to preserve every second they can to try to rally here late he's trying to get them set quickly they have to get the ball into field goal range wide open downfield oh look out there he goes touchdown Nebraska and in the final moment they've taken the lead man this game has been incredible to watch and the offense comes through late in the game takes the lead what a clutch drive by this offense now I'm looking at you defense you got the lead late in the game I need you to go put this thing on ice and Win It [Applause] they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point is good and every Point counts it's now a fourpoint lead in the fourth now that they have the lead this kickoff unit has to stay in their Lane create some field position and hand it over to the defense he'll start the return inside is five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 UTF has the ball in the minor offense ready to go to work wants to throw on first down and this will be incomplete a big hit there forces second down that's what I'm talking about that is how you close and when a guy's going to make a catch you make sure he doesn't make it physicality using your pads running through them and guess what not only this play does he feel it next time he tries to go over the middle or feels footsteps this will pay dividends here's a throw downfield Lake and that's going to be incomplete going for broke on second down the third Down's coming up this really has been a Master Class by the quarterback with decision making right we've already seen him throw multip touch passes in the game he's understood when to take his shots and when to throw it away when things aren't there like when third and long and he'll try to throw for it got him downfield they get the timeout call with seven seconds left on the clock got to get everybody lined up quickly time winding away and they've got to push the ball down the field to the air it's McConnell he's going up top here late in the game and it's picked off
