that path of just we'll look back on her career in 5 10 years and be like man she was one of the best she want a slam but man she could have been so much more and her body just wouldn't allow it you know and that's not her fault just dumb luck same with delpo we don't blame delpo we not like oh man you you were lazy no he just dumb luck you know some players are just very unlucky and I hope she doesn't go I hope it doesn't we don't look at her as like we do with delpo and be like oh what if he was fine you know not not injured but but the last like since winning Wimbledon you know the last injuries so far in the last couple years team he he had he was in many finals so he kind of like if he had won a slam and then made finals and then go you know but anyways I guess I know what you're saying with the with team but I feel like delpo is a better comparison um by so many matches going on drap is up two sets of Love demor is up two sets of Love uh konak is just lost I think bugger um Dello is up a set men's on court against School Kate School Kate winning though love that um Rebecca will bounce back I hope so I think Rebecca's best chance of winning a slam is either Wimbledon or the Australian Open Wimbledon because she's won it before there's a lot of confidence there but also Australian Open because it's early in the year so the earlier in the season the easier the unless you get injured in the offseason but Rebecca has done like she made the ASR up in final the start of this year she played so well in Brisbane when she's fresh and healthy it's her best chance I think she'll probably never win a US Open because it's too late in the year and her body can't handle it doesn't seem like her body can handle you know playing months on end um and by the time we I mean a lot of players once we get to the US Open are tired right everyone's tired um so her best chance is probably wimon or Australian Open if she's going to win one I me Australian Open she yeah she Rock even this year she lost to a very in a very close third round it was very unlucky she could have won that match gone on the final because she was in jang's half of the draw right where everyone fell off um so I wouldn't write Rebecca off because I think if she like she has two months off before the season starts she comes into Australia fresh healthy she could be dangerous uh it only seems like I mean like you know lately post Wimbledon she's had multiple withdrawals you know over the clay season multiple withdrawals um yeah it just seems like uh her body just can't hack playing months on end so maybe she needs to change it maybe I mean look the WTA doesn't allow you to change your you know you have to kind of do what they they tell you but maybe she needs like a month off at a time you know so she goes from you know maybe she should go from the French to Wimbledon without playing maybe she should go from you know uh uh Miami to to not play stook guard and play Rome Madrid right and then not play Rome and play play the French like she might need like weeks off you know rather than playing every single week and I know you you can't do that because everything's mandatory and the WTA just you know wants you to play all the time but you know take dece take take February off right don't play February um which again you can't do because there's 10,000 events now so mandatory but again you know she might be one of those players that needs those long breaks between between matches between tournaments you know Australian Open take a month off come back in March a lot of the guys do it because there's no 1000s in Feb menik is losing badly yep [Music] um oh gan's coming back against Marina that's interesting maybe that's why she's overplaying early in the season because knows she struggles later but also the SK the um the WTA rules are that you have to play so much Shon a lot of people got on shon's case for complaining but it's actually not a complaint because it is the truth the WTA this year have changed their rules to be that you have to play 6500 events as a mandatory for your ranking and rebec was playing remember re back in at the start of the year was playing like so much at the start of the year at 500s before Grand Slams like what are you doing what are you doing because you have like the WTA board in the rule that you have to play certain amount of 500s and you have to play all the 1000s and obviously the grand slams um ATB don't have the rule ATP have 1,000 you have to play and Grand Slams you don't have to play play 500s and 250s if you don't want to um there's no they're not like mandatory is not I don't think they use the word mandatory but it's a rule that you have to TI that box now let me just triple check what the if it was uh I'm pretty sure it was six and I'll tell and I'll explain a little bit because it's a little confusing because people think mandatory means if you don't play you get you get fined and stuff and maybe you do but it's not the financial problem it's it's a rankings issue um so so let me have a look because they changed it this year [Music] um yeah so they Chang it this year that your all players are uh yeah all players who are accepted uh or would be accepted to the draw as a direct entrance to a main draw uh must participate in at least six wt500 tournaments players who are accepted yeah is it yeah at least six tournaments six 500 tournaments um and if you don't know what a 500 it's like the third third level of the WTA so you got Grand Slam 1,000s and then you got 500s um so that that is part of the rules now on the WTA and uh it is too much and the reason why again I've done I've done a I've done some digging but I couldn't find if there was a financial uh a financial like loss for not playing because if it was Financial most of the big names will take that hit but the reason why fonc stresses about it so much and why I guess re backc was playing so much at the side of here is because it's a rankings thing so let me just show you a um let me just show you a um a thing here um so this will probably explain it the best way I can so oh actually this is this is perfect this is the best way to explain it so um all right so this is the WTA so this is the finals race as of now right this is the this year so you can see there that there's a lot of things that are um that are I guess involved in your ranking right so if you do not play one of the big tournaments we'll start with the 1000s right then uh six sorry the best combined 1,000 so you've got six Sorry Seven parts of your ranking are based on the 1000s all the grand slams account if you don't play a grand slam as you can see a savena she got a big fat zero for not playing wimon so her ranking is uh you know she would she got a big zero she can't replace that zero with another number right 1000s on here it says seven so you've got the best 6 1,000 results plus an extra one and then there's the best of everything else the best of everything else as far as I can see doesn't involve 1,000 so you got 500 oh actually no maybe it does hang on 500 final what's up for maybe it does that's weird maybe it does so you've got the best combined so your best this changed what happened this was different the other day the other week okay so why do they have to play six so maybe it doesn't have anything to do with ranking we weird anyway so then you've got going off this you've got six of the best 1,000 so if you win 1,000 they're the best right they're your best and then the best of the others are like you know 500s and the other 1000s Wiki explains it well yeah it really this has really made it so much easier um hang on let me just look up here we go all right here we go here's the breakdown so you've got four grand slam events make up your ranking plus six of the best mandatory 1000s so there's mandatory 1000s which are Indian Welles Miami Madrid Rome Canada Cincinnati Beijing so you have to play those if you don't play those for example uh is anyone not played those looks like everyone's played those if you don't play every 1,000 at all those mandatory events you get a big fat zero like sabalenka has a big fat zero for Wimbledon right you would get one of those you would get this in here right because they're part of this I guess right this is so confusing uh and then the best uh so mandry best mandatory 1000s from the following three wait so the best wait what six best following seven events okay and then the best 1,000 is from that oh okay and then the best seven other results are based on uh WT 1000 500 and 250s okay so if you play all the 1000s and you don't play anything else then you will not get you've got to play seven other events outside of that so what that that means you got four 10 11 you got to play 18 tournaments to cover your your ranking that's a lot of tournaments you got to play 18 events throughout the season right the mandatory events like I said if you don't play the mandatory events you get big fat zeros and it's all for ranking so if you miss out on a big tournament because you're tired you lose a lot of points where a lot of people will gain a lot of points right so that's why the players feel like especially Shon saying the schedule's too much it's because her ranking is is determined on so much 18 events and that might not seen that like that much but if you're winning like shon's winning a lot right well she was if you're playing every week until the finals that's a lot of events plus the travel plus everything else so that's why Shon was saying that it's too much now what how do we get to this point oh yeah so this time this year though they've made it so that you have to play six uh 500 events now if you don't play those six 500 events then your ranking will suffer because you're not meeting that you're not ticking that box also again I don't know if there's a financial uh Financial penalty um the WTO Ru book did I don't think it says it but again this might be a financial thing as well it's just too much and Rea I'm not saying that that's why she's hurt or that's why she's injured but she played a hell of a lot at the start of the year to to tick that box she played so many 500s before Grand Slams I mean Brisbane she won Brisbane and then she played Adelaide you're like why are you playing Adelaide because it was a 500 you have to play it you have to play six so it's just like the the ATB don't have that rule you have to play 1,000 you don't have to play 500s there's no mandatory 500 whatever it's just too much like they're expecting way too much now the reason why they would lock that in right why would they do this rule it's because they want the biggest names playing even in the 500s so making this rule kind of makes players play but at what cost right now Rebeca is out of the US Open right if we're just going to even sabalenka was out of Wimbleton right I mean yeah Rebecca just pulled out or she pulled out an hour ago but yeah um like if you make the players play every single week and they get injured then they're not going to be able to play the tournaments that we want to see them at right like Sabal Lanka being out of Wimbledon was crazy but you know because of her shoulder but she played in Berlin the week two weeks earlier because she had to she had to you know she has to play six right you have to play six you have to play six so the rules are going to like these strict rules might result in more injuries and they're all top players too it's not like we're just like you know we're not talking about the number 50 in the world as getting injured we're talking about number two number four right I mean the best players in the world are getting hurt and if they're not playing the big tournaments because they're getting hurt because they're playing the small tournaments because there's a rule they have to like get like that it's crazy why are we why are we doing 500 mandatory 500 it's crazy it's crazy so shance if you've been hearing about Fon complaining about the schedule I mean that that's why she's complaining right it's not a complaint it's a serious concern but I'm sure a lot of players I mean Rebecca has been complaining about it for the last two years she's been talking about how it's just too much right there just too much there's too many rules around having to play you know and the players are stuck because they can't go and play another tour the WTA is the tour ATP don't have these rules though they have mandatory 1000s they don't have mandatory 500s like you don't have to play six 500s to meet your quota there's no like that on the on the men's side I don't think I'm pretty sure there's not otherwise we would know about it but on the women's side they bought in this year that you have to play 6 1 6500s minimum uh as a rule and it's like dude like and then and then you get players that are like well I got to you know people are players are panicking they're like oh [ __ ] I better play better play I haven't you know because there's not that many 5 500s right for example I have to write this down because I haven't I haven't done the research yet but I will um at how many people have to play the next one because they haven't played enough so the start of the Year Brisbane Adelaide Rebecca have played both that's two right so she crossed that off straight after the ASR open was lince there's another 500 a lot of players didn't play that because it's you know they play the asran open Abu Dhabi Rebeca and played that she won then there was San Diego straight after Dubai again people aren't going to San Diego after Dubai unless they lost in Dubai in the first round it's like so you've had what four in two months five in two months then you had one in Charleston most people didn't play Charleston then stard Rebeca won that so she's played four four um no sorry yeah four and then there was Strasburg before the French Open a 500 before the French then there was Berlin then there was H Bamberg and also eastor again Bamberg eastor both before Wimbledon like who wants to play a 500 before Wimbledon or before the French like why are we having these massive tournaments before then there was the Olympics at the same time as Washington which is a 500 as well most people going to the go to the Olympics montere was before the US Open what are we doing guadalahara is straight after the US Open if you play well the US Open you're not going to guad lahara unless you have to and some players will have to then you go to Korea and then there's two more after that in Tokyo and and and China so you've got three left sorry four left but how crazy is the expectation of you have to take that box plus it's before a grand slam like why are we doing 500 before like the scheduling is crazy plus after the grand slams what who's going to win the US Open and then go play next week no one you're not playing the week after you win a US Open and you it's crazy I I I feel like they need to Bunch them up and spread them out like Bunch up the 500s but like give the week a week off we don't need a 500 every week like the WTA are trying to make it like every week is a big tournament tennis fans need a break too it's is fatigue like there's there's a big tournament every week from the start of the Year Brisbane week one Adelaide week two Australian Open week three and four is two weeks then you got lince week five then you've got in week six start of February Abu Dhabi following that is Doha then Dubai then San Diego four weeks in a row with 500 or above then we go to the sunshine double straight after Miami it's Charleston then there's a week off for Billy Jen King cup so you get three months and then you get a week off then you got stook Gart Madrid Rome Strasburg and the French Open back to back to back to back to back then a week off before uh after French which is I love that and then you got Berlin badenburg Wimbledon we had two weeks off after Wimbledon which is nice I like that then the Olympics Canada ciny Monteray US Open guadalahara Korea Beijing Wuhan China again Tokyo and then the final week of the year before the WTA finals like what the hell is even that schedule like that's insane like there's no weeks off on the WTA until the last week of October which is the final week of the year anyway so most players are either going to stop that season or they're going to play one more tournament or they're going to play the WC finals it's like it's crazy like it's like what are we doing we don't need to have a tournament every week we need weeks off where players can recover or players can play 250s we don't need plus the travel yeah we haven't even talked about travel why is the WTA so much difference in the ATP I don't know the ATP I mean they have they also have you know scheduling issues but the ATP is is much less 500 heavy so I'll talk about ATP for a second so on the F like there's no 500s in the ATP in the first week of the first month of the year the only tournament in on the ATP is the Australian Open that's massive everything else is 250 then you've got Rotterdam in the middle of February that's the first 500 event rdam Rio Dubai and aapa all in the same 3 we stretch then you go to the sunshine double you get a week off after Miami Monte Carlo Barcelona Madrid and Rome back to back to back to back then you've got nothing because there's 250s and then you've got the French then you got a week off after the French 250s only then you got two 500s then a week off then Wimbledon straight up after wimon because of the Olympics we had Hamburg then a week off then the Olympics in Washington then Canada Cincinnati and then Winston Salem which is you know a week off then the US Open next week's Davis Cup oh sorry the week after this is Davis Cup no one's playing not everyone's playing Davis Cup then Laver cup and then two 500s Beijing Tokyo Shanghai after that then a week off then the indoor season Swiss indoors and Vienna same week they bunched them up and then Paris and then it's the aw finals much more breathing room for the ATP because they they put tournaments at the same time they they make you know you know you have to choose 500's this or this they don't have Queens Club then Hela they have Hela and Queens Club at the same time so they they they allow for 250s not only to you know get players like jovic to play last minute they need to but also just to give the whole schedule Breathing Room the WTA don't do that they just go oh there's nothing there let's put one there let's put one there they need to start like like I said bunching them up we don't need to have a 500 or a 1,000 every single week fans don't need that maybe the WTA need that because you know financially they might need it but we there's no need we don't need to have this many 500 events spread out and maybe next year they'll change that but like why can't we have Strasburg and stard at the same time Bunch them up 500 at the same time we don't need to have one behind and one one you know we got Madrid and Rome and then what are we doing you know we don't need to have um I mean Adelaide and Brisbane can't we make them the same week and then a week off and then the Australian Open maybe start the start the year off in Adelaide and Brisbane 500s and then ockland hobar can be 250s and then Australian Open I mean we we can do that right I mean for the players it's for the players sake not for me not for you not for us it's for the players you know they're your product if they're not playing and they're injured that's cuz the schedule is crazy I mean come on you got to you got to give this give the players a break otherwise they will break and we've seen that now with reaka we've seen it with Sabal lanker at Wimbledon come on um players should clip this breakdown and pump out the WTA no I'm just look I'm just I'm just understand as fans but it also is a is a is is fair for the for the WT players you know to go with the same the same structure like just the ATB are doing it right just just do that like you don't need to make it fancy and make like you know 100 500 events you know we don't need to do that uh if people want to complain about the quality and inconsistency of WT matches surely scheduling is affecting the play quality of play yeah maybe we don't know because we don't have the same schedule but but look rean has come out like the last couple of years talking about this stuff like talking about stuff Shan's bringing it up I like that the best players in the world are bringing it up because if they don't bring it up and if they don't talk about it then nobody will talk about it if you got the number one in the world saying that the schedule's not good um I mean there's no bigger voice than the number one right so if the best players in the world are saying it's not good that's the first stage of change right it's like if jovic says stuff you know if jovic says something things start moving right so you know whereas if they're number 20 in the world's complaining about schedule then you're not going to probably hear it as much unfortunately SAA doesn't complain yeah but that doesn't mean it doesn't affect her because if you look at her she didn't play Wimbledon because she played in Berlin and her and her shoulder you know she hurt her shoulder she looks better now but you got to think that okay she might not have been as outspoken as or fiance has been outspoken lately right she hasn't been saying this for years it's been like the last couple of weeks she's been saying hey the schedule kind of a bit is a bit brutal um rebecc has been saying for a while but it doesn't mean that Sabal lener isn't affected by by this the the stricter stricter scheduling you know because I don't think sabalan has played as many 500 so she's got to probably cram the rest of the year right she's probably going to have to play every 500 event for the rest of the year and that's going to that's going to affect her her at the end of the year we'll see at the end of the year especially all the players that have to play six that haven't played six yet um and there's a lot probably a lot of them that are like oh [ __ ] we better we better get there they bought this rule in this year so it's it's a new rule that I think a lot of people a lot of players didn't agree with um there's a lot of play like I don't think anyone was like we didn't ask for this um I'm just having a look here this is a great graphic so someone's someone's gone from so 2019 this is what the WTA was made up of four grand slams four mandatory 1000s four five just 1000s 12 500s and 31 250s this year we've got 10 1000s still four grand SLS 17 500s and 23 250s so we''ve got Les 250s more 500s uh and if you skip a 500 and there and you're like right in that ranking spot where like maybe you're like maybe you're 20 in the world or let's let's make it even more relevant to Grand Slam let's say you're 30 in the world and there's a 500 event before the US Open you're going to feel like [ __ ] I need a play no sorry not before the US Open two weeks before right let's just for for for argument sake let's actually no let's say let's talk about the Australian Open and your ranking is at stake and your seeding is at stake two weeks before the Australian Open there's a 500 event you have to play that CU everyone else is you know that's probably a bad example too because everyone's going to play the first week of the year anyways let's actually no let's talk about wion Wimbledon seedings a week before they get cut off imagine you're 30 in the world you can't take the French Open off so after the French you can't take that time off because your rankings at sex you have to play to be seated and if everyone if it's a 500 event that's even more pressure to play cuz everybody's going to want to play those events cuz there's so many points so making a lot of 500s is nice but also God there's there's just so many points of a grabs that you feel like your ranking is on the line every week whereas at least if there was 250s you can be like ah next week oh it do worry even if even if the guy behind me wins it doesn't matter because uh you know doesn't matter if they win because I you know 250 is not going to help but 500's a lot of points that's a that's a runner up at 1,000 I mean I me that's huge so if you got 500 all the time it's going to keep the players under stress all year for their ranking because there's just so many points flying around that you don't you might be ranked number 20 next week and then number 50 the week three weeks later because you didn't play and everybody else played and they overtook you it's it's it's it's almost like too competitive you know unnecessary pressure yeah like you can't just sit back and just be like I don't need to play for 2 weeks because my rankings okay like everyone's rankings on the line all the time and maybe that's how it should be but I don't think it should I mean I think players deserve to relax a little bit you know you you win a big tournament then next week you're like oh I lost five spots because I didn't play and someone else did like anyways enough ranting but um hopefully Rebecca is okay and WTA need to just just look just copy the atp's homework you don't need to reinvent the wheel just copy the adb's homework they've done all the work for you just copy and paste copy and paste you don't need to get fancy with this [ __ ] just copy and paste fans appreciate it too because we can go look at the ADB and go that's the same as this instead of going wait hang on what what's a f what's what's this why do you what H like just copy the points copy the system ATP Does It Better copy their homework and we'll all be happy players will be happy we'll be happy as fans just make it easy for everybody right stop over complicating this stuff yeah it will affect their mental by yeah for for having their ranking you know there's players that won a tournament and then like a week later they lose five spots and you're like how the hell that happen Dash always complains a lot about it as well exactly and she's got a big following so that helps as well I mean you know the best players in the world the more they talk about it the more like the players are yes they're employees of the WTA but they're also the product of the WTA without the players you've got nothing the WTA doesn't exist if tennis players if there's no tennis players right so you got to keep the players happy not that they can they don't have an option to go anywhere else yet but with the you know with the Saudi fund and everything you know maybe there's an option down the track that the if you mistreat the players and then another tour comes up there's a lot of players that might walk out the door so you got to they got to the WT got to they've got to make they've got to make the players the priority not the tournaments like the players need to be the priority the tournaments obviously pay the bills but the players of the product you can't you got to give the players you got to you got to consult the players and and give them the chance to to talk it out not just go let's upgrade everyone to 500 status because the tournaments get more benefits from that it's like and the players get screwed because they get injured and they get S they hurt and they're you know they can't relax and they can't
