hello everyone and welcome to the Big Easy today in New Orleans Louisiana Caesar Superdome home of the rnl team on the field ready to start this postseason Classic on the run from inside his own five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 so jav St get and here he is guys anytime he takes the field he is in complete control with this offense and David he gives defensive coordinators nightmares because of his ability they're going to have a hard time slowing him down no he just doesn't have those weaknesses those flaws the whole Playbook available and he is a dude he'll L one deep down the left side oh he dropped it and what a missed opportunity early in this football game not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 and it was worth going for a chunk play but the long pass is incomplete the Gamecock will putt it away on fourth down not able to pop the big return but they've got the ball back and ready to go with a freshh possession so Washington State's offense will go to work for the first time as we take a look at out impact players for this game David what do you look for to make an impact from your leaders your leaders not only have to lead the football team but they got to step up and make plays on the field keep everybody calm these guys typically do a really good job yeah David and they also generally set the tone for their respective football teams regardless of which side of the ball they play on the teammates look towards them to step up in big games like this and the cger in the hurry up they'll go back to the ground and a nyd gain on first down leaves him with second and short looking to push the pace with the no huddle now the play fake wide open downfield and he ran away from the defense to take it in punchdown cougars and what did I start for this offense the throw game getting working getting the touchdown pass this quarterback getting a little bit of confidence this passing game getting in a rhythm nice start for this offense lining up to tack one more onto that lead and he's got the extra point and it's seven nothing to start this one quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and they finish thingss off with a scoring toss from the 33 here he comes from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 guys we'll see what Jacksonville State can get going on home from the gun they'll give it on the inside they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 he's looking to throw going to let it fly and the incomplete pass taking a shot on second down and they'll be left with a third down from the gun wants to pass feeling some heat didn't have much of a choice just had to throw that one away it'll be fourth down and the Gamecock send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away he gets a block and the returner will be brought down line gets said first down Ed the play fake now to throw nice defensive play to get a hand in there and knock it away and after the incompletion on first down this offense looking at second down the snap sets up the throw he finds his man and he broke one tackle on the way to a solid pick up there in the dead center of thei field as they try to convert this third and short trying to pick it up on the ground that'll be enough for the first down as they stop him at the 43 yd Line Washington state lines up quickly they'll throw it on first down buys a little time and the defense is there he got away for a second but not for long as a knock him down for a loss well that Defender just was better in his one-on-one on the pass rush he does a great job beting the offensive line to get to the QB a first down sack can wreck a drive let's see what they've got on second and 14 he'll pull it on the read he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple this is a third and long looking to throw and he needs a chunk play and he can't escape and down he goes that Defender did not care that the running back was setting up behind him on a screen he was just thinking one thing and one thing only C Ball get ball he did that Washington State sends out the unit he'll call for the fair catch here Jacksonville State has it back in the game coxb go to work they just didn't quite find the Rhythm on that last Drive Jesse they had to punt it I think they got to be more physical David I think up front they got to do a better job getting blocks and establishing this running game and how easy does football become if you're the more physical team if you can threaten the run and then then run play action it opens up the whole offense at your disposal and they try to run inside and there is nowhere to go trying to move the sticks on third down they'll try to get it through the air grabbed over the middle it's peace and they gave him no chance to get loose and they forc a fourth down the Gamecock will putt this one away fair catch is made but there is laundry on the deck so we might be having a do over personal foul kick defense so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty so the offense keeps this drive alive thanks to the roughing the punter penalty not a whole lot of room there three yards maybe second and seven tried to pound it on first down now back to the line quarterback on the keeper pass the sticks in still on his feet tackled after picking up the first down and the game p come to the line with a fresh set of downs he'll keep it himself breaks the tackle oh it's a fumble defense covering it up and not letting the offense get it back it's a turnover and the defense did everything right against that option play they got to the quarterback they forced him to keep it not only do they create the fumble but they jump on it behind the line of scrimmage that is just perfect option [Music] defense Washington state has it back and they'll send the offense onto the field here's another opportunity Jesse to stretch out this lead after pting last time I think it goes back to your Playmakers ree I think it's finding the guys that have been working for you earlier on in this game game and getting them the football yeah and there's obviously no need to panic I mean think about it you got the lead you got the football you got to be smart with the football make your plays put a good drive together here takes a hand off it's Brooks really nice run there good solid pickup and they'll move the sticks with a first down the Cougars will hustle to the line looking to go up top on first down he put some heat on that one down the middle off the deflection missed a great chance to force the turnover instead it'll be second down he'll do it himself at the 45 on his way he got loose almost house and finally dragged down at the 32 the Cougars are marching down the field well this is one of the fastest quarterbacks in college football and that's why the option's a good idea because can get out in space and he has a chance to get down field he is really difficult to tackle and he's very difficult to catch as you saw in that last play getting a first [Applause] down on second down was to throw he's got him along the sidelines and the foot is clearly down for the catch and they'll move the chain this offense has become a first down machine and that is so demoralizing for the def especially for those star players that are playing tons of snaps and not subing out as much by the fourth quarter they're going to be GED he'll pull it on the re and after the tackle that will bring us to the end of the first [Applause] quarter that's the end of the quarter and Washington state has the lead we put one in the books Let's have a look at our game summary they are lined up and ready to go and get things started here in the second third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one now on fourth down here comes the field goal team the kicker will reach for a 36 yd attempt it is perfect and they'll push that lead out a little further so they were able to put up a three spot on that last drive and now the kickoff team out there as they prepare to put boot to leather and he'll bring it out of the end zone not nearly as much as he'd hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 guys we'll see what Jacksonville State can get going on o they are trailing by 10 here Jesse but this is the type of team that seems comfortable in an offensive shootout you got to After Burner coming the 40 the 20 and he's loose and he'll take it to the house touchdown Jacksonville State man this guy is such a weapon because he's so dangerous if he gets into the second level great vision and then shows you the speed just straight Wheels erasing angles a lot of times when you're chasing guys that are so fast like this you're like I got him I got him no I do not what a big long touchdown run had those stats young fellow lining up for the pat and with the extra point the lead is cut to three it's 10 to s that one's going to get a little star Mark decided on the play sheet One play explosive touchdown just like that and he's going to bring it out I know he thinks he can house every return but sometimes you just have to take a knee as he stopped at the 14 the give to the right not lot of room there give him a couple to the 16 and the Cougars come to the line in the hurry [Applause] up pulls and throws off the RPO he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down will they keep it on the ground again here on third down [Applause] they'll try to power their way ahead they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one Washington State sends the punt team onto the field this will be a second time they've had to kick it away this is a spot you see many returners try to take a chance but not this time fair catch just inside the 40 movement here from the tight end from the gun they'll try to impose their running game and how about that interior defense stuffing the run for nothing they'll run it from the gun turns it on in Midfield he puts him in business across the 50 into the 46 yd line it'll be first down moving the running back trying to get the D to tip its hand and this sophomore able to wreak some havoc and get the sack oh it's a missed opportunity you know the quarterback was excited he saw man coverage he thought he was going to have an opportunity to come up with a big play but up front they could not protect him well enough they'll try to keep that sack from Wrecking this drive here on second and 15 out of the gun the inside hand off to the running back and he could not get loose on the Run we wind inside four minutes to play in the half on Third and long hoping to throw beyond the sticks hits him inside the 20 still going touchdown Jacksonville State and once he got away from the D they had no shot at catching it you know sometimes as a play caller you just don't have to over think things I've got a guy who's faster than your guys and he's just going to run straight down the field I'm going to throw it way down the field he's going to make the catch and we're going to score a touchdown and that's pretty much what just happened there they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point is good and it's a fourpoint lead a very efficient five play scoring drive and they finished the drive with a big play through the air scoring from 51 yds out on the move from inside is five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 here comes the wazu offense onto the field again leaves it with the running back they knock him down but not before he gets it out to the 21 yd line pick up a four the Cougars headed quickly to the line quarterback on the keeper and they're able to shove him to the turf as they stop him for a short gain after the strong run on second down third down coming do they do it again to the ground to try to move the chains and with that effort they pick up a fresh set of downs they have it at the 34 yd Line Washington State going back to work on first down they'll give it to him again the 45 he's now up to 66 yd on the ground and that magical 1,000 yd Mark is oh so close wants to throw on first down he's got his man that's a good job by the drag route there understanding it Zone coverage so instead of continuing to run across the field he settles down into an open spot making it easy for his quarterback stop is made at the 3 let's call it a 5yd gain and a first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs motion trying to get the defense to show its hand fires down field Mak a connection brought down at the 21 yd line a 15yd pickup and they are in Prime position to get points [Applause] now on the ground it's Brooks knocked down but not before he crossed into the Red Zone and picked up four yards down to the 17 the clock has reached the two-minute Mark and they have a chance to at least cut into this lead before the break unleashes to the end zone and he's got it touchdown Washington State and this quarterback really does a great job of seeing the defense seeing what kind of coverage they're in and I think when this offense goes empty and they spread the defense out it just so much more simple for the QB to see what the defense is doing pre- snap and then post Snap you could tell he's playing in a great Rhythm right now because he's seeing the field and these empty sets are really helping him they'll try to attack one more on their score and the extra point puts him up by a field goal so an 82 yd drive there and the score comes on a 17 yd throw for the touchdown he'll bring it back from inside his five and the returner runs out of real estate as he goes down Jacksonville State has it back and the game Cox will go to work these two defenses have had their head spinning here in the first half and now we might even see a little more scoring with this drive it's going back and forth this is like two heavyweights just trading blows David what does this defense got to do to get a stop here I I tell you what man when you're giving up points like this and you've got no momentum you got to find somebody that can make a play to something and listen if you're if they're scoring anyways let's be aggressive let's Blitz more let's let's make sure we're making them feel discomfort in some way shape or for floats it out in space well he comes up with the reception but not a lot of room to run after that yeah and I like the QB doing this I mean I'm going to find ways to give him the football and see if he can make a miss and I'm going to bet most of the time that my guy is a little bit more and the quarterback is snowed under time out is called and it's the defense wanting to make sure that everyone's on the same page for this big down they'll give it to the back and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop the Gamecocks line up to punt it away they'll get down and put a stop to the return at about the 28 yd line on first down here comes this offense they'll crank up this drive with the pass short throw to the sideline is complete and he's out of bounds after picking up a couple and the short completion brings up second down he's looking to throw pulls it in dragged down to the turf but not before getting the first down a new set of downs after the completion he'll come out throwing on first down complete to the left he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down he wants to throw got it in the middle it's Cortez man it's so important QB I got to know when to put some air on it and I got to know when to rocket that thing in there working the middle of the field he knew he needed the rocket threw it in there touchdown wazu and once he got loose it was all over quarterback's abilities to read the field is huge and also the anticipation the timing to be able to throw the football Jessie and hit a guy in stride so he can get run after the catch and get in the end zone that was a nice job by the quarterback yeah it's critical DAV listen lot of times touchdown passes aren't thrown into the end zone you got to read the coverage hit the open guy and let him do the rest unit on the field the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead they got the late touchdown on the board now about to kick it away and hoping the defense can keep them from answering and he takes this from inside the five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 guys we'll see what Jacksonville State can get going on own the deficit here is just 10 points David So a chance to answer here plenty of time left in this football game no need to panic this offense just has to put a couple Drives together and listen the defense will get this back and get some stock F and get you the football back and I think I think here too David you have an opportunity to keep the pressure on the opponent yeah they just went down and scored but you score here this game buil tight to keep their feet to the fire so an opportunity here to keep applying that pressure he gets it oh so close to the first down marker but I think he's going to be a touch short and the Gamecock decide to pun it away he'll take it on the return he gets it up to the 34 yd line before he stopped and that's where the offense will set up shot running out of time here in the first half they're going to have to be efficient to put some points on the board before the break that should be the final play of the first half at the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin in our halftime update re stks talk about an entertaining first half and always such a fwn and vibrant environment there at the New Orleans bow and there is no better place to start this halftime than by reviewing how this wide out has been a Onan Wrecking Crew the kid's been everywhere and I love how he's willing to go across the middle but that he also has the Jets to burn these DBS on the def ball if this defense wants to actually come back in this one they better hide his pleas with that said let's send it back to Reese and the guys for the conclusion of the New Orleans Bowl all lined up and ready to go for a great second half ahead and he'll bring it back and the coverage team able to make the tackle Washington state has it back and they'll send the offense onto the field they more than got the job done in the first half now the job in a bowl game don't get distracted and finish the deal here in the second half I mean love the way they came out they had all that time off didn't look Rusty at all came out with a foot on the accelerator looked really really good Palmer he just more of the same here in the second half I agree and if you're on that sideline right now now's not the time to be thinking about the off seon your strength program what classes you're taking in the spring you need to focus on finishing this game and punctuating this season and the defense knew exactly where that first down line was and they stopped him short Washington State have to boot it away he only needs a sliver of daylight he was hoping for a little more Running Room but they're able to get him down at the 45 they'll get this drive started from their own 45 yd line hand off from the shotgun and he's knocked down but there's also a flag that's been dropped let's check on the call [Music] [Applause] they say you could call holding on every play well they did on that one they go to the ground he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple offense gets set for second down it's a draw he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple now this offense is just stuck in the mud they've already punted four times and it's third down now pressure coming got rid of it just in time the Gamecock will line up to punt it away three and out and not much choice but to get rid of the ball another punt on the way got to make sure those hammies and glutes all activated don't want any muscle PS from overuse he gets it up to the 34 yd line before he stopped and that's where the offense will set up shot [Applause] off the RPO complete they'll rip off eight on that play it's second and two Washington State going quickly they'll run it out of the shotgun he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage come to the line at the 42 facing a third and short and he gets it to the the 44 yd line it'll be a first down the Cougars come to the line with a new set of [Applause] downs unloads quickly and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pickup they'll line up for a second down play it's hard to have success on wide receiver screens when you're facing press man coverage because your blockers out front often times can't pick them up and that receiver gets gobbled up as soon as he catches the pass we saw it on that last play looking for room it's Brooks he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple Washington State sends out the punt unit all the way back to the 50 and he loses the football on the return once that ball was loose off didn't have a chance Defenders are everywhere it's a turnover give to the back and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup wazu eager to pay off this Red Zone trip they'll ride the hot hand and at least they keep him out of the end zone he's on the three operating in the Red Zone here on second down they'll leave it with the lone back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one the terrain gets rough this deep in the Red Zone third down they can pick up the first without scoring coming after him here he goes breaking the pocket so close to that end zone he could almost taste it but it'll be first and goal for this offense Washington state has it all working right now a first down run in the Red Zone they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and the D Deni him on second and [Applause] goal lets it go to the end zone and it's caught touchdown cougar he has been surgical Precision passing using the sca the fine instrument rather than the blunt one the defense has had absolutely no answer for just he's been in down their throats all game long a step ahead understanding what he's seeing and just destroying this defense getting set for the point after and with the extra point they now have a three possession lead at 177 about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown and he passes on the Touchback here he comes I know he thinks he can house every return but sometimes you just have to take a knee as he stopped at the 14 give to the running back across the 25 he's got room what a good run there he has enough for the first down here's this offense with a frh Downs off the play fake on first down to throw caught near the sticks it's peace finally run out of bounds but he has his offense rolling with a first down new set of downs after that completion they'll leave it with him and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this no game land they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 he's looking to throw oh he's going to take a shot at the DB well this juncture in the game with how the scoreboard looks no question this offense is going to have to throw to get back in the game and it's going to be tricky now because the defense is expecting it you're going to throw into a lot of big Zone coverages with everybody's eyes on the quarterback not going to be easy and the game talk will bring the punt team onto the field a fairly short distance here toward the sidelines not his best work here comes the wazu offense onto the field again he'll keep it himself gets it P the first down marker and still running and he's brought down after a nice game and the Cougars want to pick up the [Applause] tempo to the ground with the back and a nice run there for the def defense finally makes the stop nyd pickup on first down and now they can take a shot on second and [Applause] short PS and fires complete looks as if that'll be enough to give Washington State a first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs on the ground with the counter able to SC three yards out of that one somehow it's second and seven here comes the hurry up leaves it with the back nice solid form tackle from this sophomore as they get set to snap it time winding down here in the quarter looking to throw on third oh they really could have used that catch their physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down and they're running out the kicker to give it a try and the try is no good had a chance to make this lead 20 but we're still sitting on a 17 [Music] [Music] that's the end of the quarter and Washington state has the lead and they've built a comfortable lead after three quars of play Let's Take a look at how we've gotten here just about ready to go in the fourth and we'll see if any drama can be mustered Jacksonville State has it back in the game Co will go to work their Drive chart is starting to look a little monotonous punt punt punt David and their defense is starting to get a little frustrated too they just keep putting me back on the field possession after possession Jesse this offense needs to get their heads out of there you know what the punter's on the sideline with the oxygen mask right now he's been playing so much he's not used to this this offense they just got to stay on the field they got to put a drive together and get some balance going running and throwing the ball fires to the big fella and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker coach has no choice here the offense has to stay on the field down multiple possessions this late fourth down fires into traffic it's picked off and they'll drag him down after a good return on the interception and the senior just snatched the ball out of the air and gave it back to his offense and that's a really good job by the defense understanding the situation of football it's fourth down it's late in the game you got a multi possession lead take away all the Deep stuff make him Force the football into coverage they do and they stamp this game Washington state has it back and they'll send the offense onto the field now they'll run it to the right here and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one Washington state lines up quickly it's a point in the game I think as a coaching staff where you really challenge your offensive line to go win the football game right we've got to lead late we're going to and that ball is picked off and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception well the defense isn't quitting they're obviously down big here in the fourth quarter just a little bit of time left obviously it'll take aulian effort to come back but could that interception be the spark that ignites this [Music] out comes the offense as they get set to take over off the play fake on first down to throw tight end finds a soft spot and that corner came in hot despite knowing that he was giving up some size on second down wants to throw it just gets rid of it to the running back underneath def able to drag him down but not before they'll recycle that down marker going up top on first down and this will be incomplete a big hit there for his second down down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they'd throw it again he wants to pass it on second down makes the grab they'll finally drag him down but not before he gets it to the 40 and it's a first down the Gamecock have this offense rolling looking to throw it again he makes the connection he is stopped behind the line of scrimmage they'll lose yards on that one on second down looking again to throw makes the catch he will step out of BS but not before the big kick off and a first down for this offense the give to the tail back and maybe they want to try somewhere else because there is nothing doing in the middle of this defense got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 he's looking to throw and the ball is picked off no room to return but no problem after making a play like that and they'll have it at the 25 and as a defensive lineman late in the game man when you know it's ped you're pinning your gears back trying to get to the quarterback and DBS are trying to do this pad them stats get the int nice job by this team here comes the wazu offense onto the field again after that last pick David they really need to take care of the ball this time no doubt and Palmer I want to know what Spurrier said to you on the sideline after a pick do that again and you'll be right here beside me for the rest of the game you got to go out you got to call your plays and I hope this coaching staff isn't going to be Afra to throw at this round off play action on first down showing the arm strength to the left touchdown Washington State and the punishment has been extended and this offense continuing to put up points this game's Out Of Reach you know you're going to win but still throwing the football still finding that connection I imagine there'll be some salty handshakes at the end of this game [Music] lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead what a display of explosive capabilities on that drive 75 yards two plays and a touchdown he'll bring it out didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 guys we'll see what Jacksonville State can get going on o he's looking to throw it he lobs one high down the left side oh and he gets downfield the you know as the head coach of this team this is one positive you're going to take away from this game is that your players don't quit and they're still willing to fight there's obviously a lot of things they've got to Iron Out offensively and we've seen that today but I do love the grit they're showing here late still trying to make plays they'll get him stopped at the 34 yards on that one and a first down Ed the play fake now to throw and the physical play there forces the incompletion on first down ball's still spotted at the 34 it's second and 10 they'll throw again after the incompletion finds the tight end no chance to run but they still move it forward they probably feel good about their field goal chances from the 29 but they'd love to convert this third and short they're trying to get to him and he just throws it away on third down I don't think you can give up on a play like that down in the fourth quarter it's too late for empty possessions they'll go for it on fourth down and they get to him and sack the quarterback and they'll stop the drive on Downs he had nowhere to go with the football fourth down know he wants to make a play I'd like for him to throw it up to be honest give somebody an opportunity to make a play who cares if I throw a piit it's fourth down anyways but couldn't find anybody to get the ball off defense surrounds him gets him to the ground with a sack they'll start this drive 60 yd in front of them from their own 40 the give and tick tick tick tick tick tick tick One Step W Two Step squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground we reached the two-minute warning and this offense is that much closer to salting away a victory from the gun the running back has it he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see what the call [Applause] [Music] ising holding penalties the ultimate Drive killer we'll see if it cost this offense here one back in the back field he gets the carry and a really short game before he gets a whole bunch of company from the defense [Applause] power football with the Run he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple Washington State sends the punt team onto the field three and out they got stuck in Reverse they hope the punt can bail them out he'll field the punt and try to make a big play tries to find a little more Running Room on that return but he'll be stopped at the 36 Here Comes the offense on first down he's going to pass complete down field they'll use a timeout with 26 seconds left on the clock now it's first and 10 from the 46 yd line looking to move it through the air fires to the right he's got it and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play the offense uses a timeout 20 kcks remaining after that huge player right back at him on First and 10 from inside the 15 getting some heat just had to get rid of that one good job to fight another play going to work in the Red Zone they can't pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone someone not clear on the snap count it'll be a false start they move it back the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty on second down looking to throw takes the easy throw in the flat the defense wouldn't let him lose there and it was a completion but they lost yardage timeout is called and the clock is down to eight just outside the red zone at the 21 but it's third and long going for it all pass Falls incomplete and there are still three seconds left and here we go final play of the game right here they're throwing for it on fourth down deep shot for the end zone and the pass is incomplete but there is a flag on the field let's see if the offense gets a [Music] refe so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty all business today for this ball Club they come out and they get the win and that's all that matters it's not always pretty uh you don't always do everything you want to do or check all the boxes but at the end of the game Jesse you want that W no doubt about it they made the plays they needed to make in order to get this win I thought the quarterback showed tremendous Poise good leadership throughout the course of the game defense made stops when they had to make them so right there were some things that are going to need to clean up moving forward but ultimately they were the better team today that's going to do it for us for Jesse Palmer David Pollock our entire broadcast team
